Hello, clue crew! I thought I’d start a series called “What I Would Wear in the Nancy Drew PC Video Games!” Basically I’ll create outfit moodboards, each in order of their release dates, then I’ll try to recreate them with the clothes I have in my closet :) These posts will get pretty long btw, just so you know.

@elliotchen-apologist actually inspired me to do this series because of the moodboards they post (which are cool asf, too, btw). For every look I try to fit the time period, the weather of the games, and the way the other characters are dressed (thank you, Nancy Drew wiki). I’ll do some makeup looks, too. There are some outfits I won’t recreate because I don’t have all the clothes in the world (rip), but I will do my best.

Without further ado, here’s the first post in the series:

Secrets Can Kill (1998)

I feel like striped shirts were really popular in the 90’s. I have a lot of them, but I felt like this one really encapsulates the time period because Grumpy the Care Bear is sewn onto the front of it :) I also know that denim skirts were extremely popular during that time (ignore the pocket sticking out 😭). Converse are like a classic sneaker, so they basically go with any casual outfit. You can’t see it, but I put my hair up in a high half up half down ponytail with a light pink scrunchie.

I also had another shirt that matched the one in the moodboard closer because of its multiple colors; I couldn’t pick which one I liked best; just ignore how it’s riding up:

Here’s the makeup I chose for it:

I’m not too comfortable showing my whole face, so I cropped out the parts instead. I looked up teen makeup in the 90’s, and I got what I expected: blue eyeshadow (ignore the dark looking smudges because they’re actually my eyelashes casting a shadow; my lashes are pin straight, so it’s a struggle to keep them curled). I also lined my lips with a darker lipstick since that was a pretty big trend back then. I put blush on the center of my cheeks for a more youthful look, too, but it might not be too visible tbh.

Stay Tuned for Danger (1999)

I went for a more professional, mature look with this one. The suspects are in their thirties at the very least and dress more seriously, so I thought it’d be more appropriate. I, again, couldn’t pick between two shirts, so I decided to add both; the one on the left has a v-neck that exposes more of the button up underneath and has a crocheted look to it while the one on the right is a plain cotton sweater with a crew neck. The skirt’s a bit big, so I had to pin it back a bit so it wouldn’t flare out as much. I have these really ugly shoes from an interview I did a couple years back that look a bit like penny loafers, so I slipped those on with white crew socks, and, to be honest, I actually really like the way it looks. Guess they just needed to be styled right. I put my hair in a simple half up half down hairstyle instead with a couple of hair strands.

As for the makeup, I felt like a simple look would fit well. I put concealer that’s a bit too dark for my skin tone on my eyelids (you might see a more yellowy tinge to them if you zoom in close) as well as some mascara. Looking back I think I should’ve done like a simple brown eyeshadow look instead but whatever. No blush this time. A red lip is considered a classic look, so I did that as well.

Message in a Haunted Mansion (2000)

Here’s the final outfit for part one :) I based this one off of what Rose was wearing (namely the top she was wearing). Honestly I couldn’t tell if it was a sweater or a sweatshirt, but I went with a sweatshirt of mine because of the high neck like the top she wore underneath; it’s also fleece lined :D Perfect for the winter setting. I went with mom jeans to pay homage to Nancy and her apparently horrendous fashion sense (though I personally think she slays; everyone’s a critic, I guess 🙄). I went with red Converse this time because it’s the same pair in the moodboard I made and also because it’s the only thing I think would suit this outfit. Look I know it was 2000, but they were still transitioning from the 90’s, so I added slouch socks, and I think they were at least semi-popular in the 90’s?? Either way I think they’re cute, so I added them. My hair was in a simple ponytail for this one with the strands still out because I just think it’s really cute. No makeup for this one; I just felt like the vibe didn’t suit it.

And that’s it! I hope at least some people enjoyed this post because I worked really hard on it 😭😭

Jellyfish Specimen Sandwich

Realized I hadn't seen enough art of the god-tier sandwich you can make in Danger on Deception Island and decided to be the change I wanted to see in the world.

I'm making a spread of inventory items from DDI and decided to start with the sandwich you can make at the start of the game. More items to follow, and possibly more spreads. I'm thinking at least SHA and CAR. What would be your favorite inventory spread to see?
