A lazy smirk etches his face and shivers go up her spine, face warming. Leaning in, his grin widens. "Of course, I'm enjoying this talk on heat dynamics; especially with you!" She stutters and he beams, chemistry just got interesting…

Surprisingly this is the first naruhina highschool au fic I've read, and WOW. I really like how the characters are written, and this story will definitely catch you by surprise in the middle. It seems like an unassuming fluff fest, but it really hits you with the angst and the action. I can't say any more about it because I might spoil it. A MUST-READ.

21 Days by BunnyHoodlum  @bunny-hoodlum (Modern AU)

Hinata answered a simple post from a flirty, and blatantly horny guy. She thought that might break her out of her shell, help her practice establishing her boundaries and all that stuff.

She never would have known that the flirty anon on the other side was someone she actually knew.

(I think this is a pretty well known fic? But I don't really see enough people talking about it.)

This is one of those fics where the tags would either frighten or intrigue you.

Something about Naruto being a military brat lights a fire in me (a very hot, smokey fire). I really love how Naruto's brain works in the fic. We dive in so deep into his own troubles with his family life, with his relationships, and with himself. Hinata's troubles are so well written, and I love how even if she's meant to be a bit closed off, she doesn't come across as meek and mild. 

The team 7 dynamic in this is adorable, and the smut is smutty.

Don't let the fact that it's incomplete sway you the story is so SO worth it.

Again, the tags would either frighten or intrigue you. It’s definitely not for everyone (there’s one-sided sasuhina in this) but everything that might sway you is what’s going to keep you reading. The fluff is tooth-rotting. The tension is gripping. The smut in this is what 50 shades wanted to be. 

The author included warnings for very explicit scenes so I think you can just skip over those if you need to.

I loved this fic. It's expertly written and deals with unrequited love both from Hinata as well as Naruto. The author is a lovely person but sadly, nasty people have been leaving horrible reviews, even insulting those who commented and the author. 

Even if this pairing isn't your thing, maybe show the author some love?

Hmm... Well, lately I just keep trying to find new lengthy fics to read (mostly I've been binge reading NH canon-rewrite stories, usually those that have more than 100K+ words/around 20+ chapters, apart from the fics I was already following) but I'm not sure if you'd be into those.

hello their my lovely writer/author of quietus, do you also read other ss stories, can I ask what have you read and if you can recommend me something that you think is really good Thank you.

Boring answer... I haven't properly read SS fanfics for years. Not because I don't love SasuSaku, I just don't have that luxury of spare time to spend hours on Ao3 hunting for and binge-reading fics. Normally I only have time to write and proof-read my own work, unfortunately, and that's mostly been the case pretty much since I finished uni and started working full-time.

Also, I'm very picky when it comes to writing styles in general, and it's not easy for me to get really hooked on something.

I favourited Little Piece of Heaven by Leanne Ash and Color Theory by BlueGreenApples years ago. I've read Blind and Ripples and other well-known ones that you probably know about already. Color Theory was my favourite back then. Honestly can't remember what LPoH was about and I read lots of others that I never bookmarked. I should update my faves.

Sorry I can't provide a long list. But, maybe now that I'm on a writing break, you and other readers might like to recommend some good fics or oneshots for me to read, instead, because I don't have time to look? :D I could do with some inspo to keep the fanfic flame alive during my hiatus.

I do really miss that feeling of finding a great writer, being fully immersed in a beautifully-written, well-paced story and getting excited over new updates. I've forgotten what it's like to be on the other side of fanfiction, sadly. So any recommendations of good, in-character content are welcome, and not just fics that focus strictly on SasuSaku necessarily.

So I’m trying to get into sasunaruhina and I was wondering if you had any fic or blog recs? I’m primarily a Hinata and naruhina fan and often with the ship the vibes I get are sasunaru with Hinata on the side 😕. Since you’re also mainly a naruhina fan I thought you might have some suggestions.

I wouldn't say I'm a NaruHina fan, more of a NaruHina obsessed addict that lives and breathes NaruHina, lmao.

There aren't many true NaruHinaSasu fics I can in good conscience rec to you, (as in the endgame will be a throuple and there is equal love among all) because as you said, most are not really NaruHinaSasu fics, they're SasuNaru with Hinata on the side as garnish, if that, or SasuHina with Naruto as an optional side dish and I can't get down with any of those. Unfortunately there aren't enough fics to choose from in the first place as the NaruHinaSasu pairing is severely under-loved 😩it's something me, demonofthefridge and @opal-chan are trying to rectify though🤭As far as where to get started on this throuple, anything @opal-chan has written is a safe, true NaruHinaSasu throuple fic for sure. Stories written by me alone are also safe and will be equal affection when the throuple is established, and any angst or plot has been resolved. I have 4 upcoming NaruHinaSasu fics that will be posted soon. One of which will be ready by Wednesday of next week, so look out for those.

From Me: A Cure For Love Secrets of the Hidden Leaf You'll see another fic attached to me called A New Dream where I'm listed as co-writer with @mrs-messy, that one I'd say hold off on for right now. This is a re-write of a story @mrs-messy has already written out that wasn't a throuple. This second version is planned to be an equal throuple, but Mrs.Messy is more of a SasuNaru or SasuHina fan, so that plan may change depending on where she wants to take the endgame. This story was originally hers and I want her to be able to retain her creative liberties to take it where she needs to, so I can't mark that one as safe, so just a hold off on it until that one is a bit further into the trenches.

does anyone have recs for naruhina fics that are at least Kind Of canon compliant, if not outright fix-its, that give their romantic relationship more development earlier in the series? (by “earlier” i do mean at any point before the last, unfortunately, now that i think about it.) i don’t particularly mind any rating or subject matter; it’s my job to read responsibly no matter what is recommended, so i’m open to any suggestions

(i’m gonna be a little bit of a snob and also say i don’t want to read anything that makes hinata s-stutter over every w-word, or that makes naruto out to be overly dumb.)

It's a fic centred around Shikaku, Ionichi and Chouza's first Chuunin exam as kids. It's been over a year and I still really really wanna write more fics in this universe with them.

There are fic that I am maybe more emotional about, but it's one where I've never been like "okay this isn't optimal, but I'm gonna go with that" while writing. I'm really happy with how I could explore intergenerational relationships in Konoha, both on an interpersonal level, and on a political level with how quick the world has changed and how each generation has lived through extremely different times.

Also I don't often write fights and I had several here and I think they're good? I'm happy about them at least.

I think it's a fic from the moment where I was really starting to fall in love with bittersweet ambiences and mundane daily life (I have not changed since then). It's a KakaGai fic about Kakashi's routine after Gai's death and his state of mourning. I promise it's not that sad. I love it a lot.

This one hasn't always been easy to write but it's my biggest worldbuilding baby. Full of headcanons about Konohan legal structure and history, clan politics in Konoha and Suna, Kankurou's relationship to puppetry, Sand Family dynamics, Aburame clan history and traditions... Plus some sweet sweet uncle Kankurou and uncle Shino content and cute babies.

This series has done a lot for how my writing process and style and interests have evolved this past year and I'm very glad it did.

Honnestly it's hard to chose a fic from this series because I love all of them to pieces, and the current WIP might over take this one when it's done, I don't know, but yeah.

KankuShika modern AU, I got to write several scene about their respective relationshipd to gender and sexuality and queerness and coming out and I was very happy to get the space to do so much on that front.

I'm really loving writing the Sand Siblings dynamic in this series too, I think they have a great balance between struggling to make it work between them because they are very different and it's hard, but also genuinely wanting to put in the effort because they care deeply. Love them.

That's 5 this time! Most of my fics belong to series. They can usually be read independently (if not it'll be in the notes), but that means if you like anything you can usually find more to keep going afterwards haha

My five favourites from my own fics:

Tenderness (Five Years After)

I like Sasuke, I actually like Sasuke quite a lot. And while I don't write traditional m/m narusasu, I dabble in the genderbent variety once in a while. This is like a small ode to Sasuke and the way he covets Naruto. I was inspired by the poeticism of chapter 699. Anyway, looking back at it, I think some of the dialogue is a bit clumsy, but I like the introspection I had for Sasuke.

Petrichor

The imagery of Naruto smoking, leaning against a door frame, smoke billowing around him, rain pattering outside...I don't know where it came from but it was extremely vivid and out came this smut. Actually I do remember the sort of genesis of the idea, I was listening to the Smiths a lot at the time and the song Well I Wonder just gave me rainy night vibes. I thought I nailed the imagery of the scene I wanted to depict.

Consume

Somehow this is my worst performing fic lol, but I really like it. Maybe it's because I had to headcanon some stuff to make it work, and it's not clearly displayed in the fic itself haha. But I loved the way I portrayed their relationship, the angst Naruto secretly harbours, the tenderness Hinata displays to him. And the smut lol.

Bruises

I'd been thinking about this fic forever before I actually started writing it. Not my greatest in actual writing ability, but more like I love the way I capture the desire Naruto and Sasuke have for each other. It's more than sexual, it's like a borderline soulmate vibe without actually crossing that territory. Although a lot of this is sexual, not to give anyone the wrong impression lol.

Chicken Ramen for the Pervert's Soul

I feel like it's cheating to put this one here but I'd be lying if I said this wasn't one of my favourites. I love how low stakes it is, I can just write whatever silly idea I come up with and post it in here. All sorts of scenarios and kinks and whatever else. Reading a lot of smut was the most important thing I did to improve my smut writing ability. The second was writing and constantly posting for this fic. Anyway, I've got so many fond memories for a lot of the different chapters in here, and the fact I completed it then started posting more chapters again 🙈

My first favorite recently is Sign of the Times -

Canon divergence. it's a 5k two part fic based in a terrible universe where both Temari and Kankurō die in the war and the mismanagement of the grief left behind for Gaara and Shikamaru. Very sad, awful and gut-wrenching.

I specially liked mixing the tenses in the first chapter to show that to Gaara it all feels like it's still happening in real time, even though it's been a while. I don't know if that was the best way to show that but I enjoyed it. Wrote it in two days, sobbed the entire time and it's probably one of the rawest thing I've written in a long time.

My second favorite is Setting Sun (my beloved)

This is going to be a multi-fic series, current word count going at 50k at 11 chapters. Modern High School AU with a royal political intrigue twist. As I've gone on and on often, setting sun was supposed to be a prequel set in high school to a naruhina fic i wrote in early 2017 and discontinued because of negative feedback and personal issues, but I never stopped thinking about it and started working on the worldbuiding to work around the setting. The premise? Princess in hiding meets average dude and they grow by learning to understand each other. I decided they were too young, so I later made it into the current setting. I also changed a lot of what the naruhina fic will be so I only left it up for archival purposes; the current setting sun au only has traces now.

The Rose and the Dare

this is a 6k HTTYD fic that was my incursion to Romantic Horror. Incursion which was largely inspired by The Hofferson House, Est 1850 by @beatricebmorgan

Coming back to her hometown, Astrid is dared to pick a rose from the abandoned churchyard deep in the forest. She finds unexpected help.

Burning

This is a 6k shikatema fic (+18!!!) I'm very obsessed with lovers that yearn for each other but can't make it work the first time around. Exes to lovers and all that - one of my favorite works because it's inspired by poetry

And the last one, of course, has to be Riptide. HTTYD

Started writing it in 2018, finished it may this year at 32 chapters, 98k total. I have a complicated relationship with this fic because I went through a lot and grew a lot as a writer and person during that time, but I'm still proud of it just because I poured a lot of myself into it and did my best to make this world come alive. Set in a modern AU in a fictional country, Astrid is a famous NYC model that's spiraling publicly under her mother's control and decides to go to her family for the summer, where she meets Hiccup, a sweet dude that grew up neglected by his parents and is attached to Astrid's aunt by a haunting secret. I can't say whether it's good anymore, but it has a special place in my heart.

Hmmm, quite pleased that I finished everything I started. Most of these are one-shots. I don't write too many AUs haha.

It looks like I don't usually start fics with dialogue (only two on this list do), and I seem to prefer humor. Mostly third-person past tense, rarely present tense, and I never write in future tense. What does this mean?

The scene in "Doormat" was reworked into Chapter 4 of "The End of Winter." Because I just wanted to fit some of these one-off ideas into a larger narrative.

Days, I used your fic sorting method and it's more work than I thought. Now I'm very impressed that you follow this format for all your rec lists - how?
