Heck yes it stands up! I didn’t know if it would; I didn’t think the stockinette was dense enough to make up for the airy lace. (You work the heavy yarn and the light yarn on the same needles. Needle. It’s a circular needle.)

(My favorite part of this is that sometimes, when you have a lace collar and it has stiffness/stands up, it makes the whole thing look very creature-like. I am not sure Mrs Hammersley would enjoy my ah-great-you-look-like-a-creature take on her dress if it were possible for me to convey it, but to me, it’s sort of fascinating. Dragonflies’ wings. Godzilla. Perfectly normal reaction to a dress. Anyway, bemused by the lace realizations, happy the structural part of the knitted thing worked.)

Last month, I applied to sell work at the Manitoba Crafts Museum and Library (Centre for Craft) museum shop! This was my first time applying as a vendor, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it went! The centre accepted eight of my pieces to sell in the shop!

Lupine Seed Stitch Neckwarmer

The colors on this reminded me of wolves lol! Gray, brown, and white, really really soft since it's 100% alpaca fiber! Alpaca gives it a little bit of a halo effect, too, where some of the fibers stick out from the fabric like a soft cloud. Done entirely in seed stitch (just a K1, P1 alternating repeat)

Yarn: Autumn House Farm 100% alpaca

Measures ~7" tall by ~24" circumference.

REASONS I THINK CHILCHUCK KNIT HIS OWN COWL/NECKWARMER:

knows how to mend clothing. doesnt find it weird to casually mend his own clothing. he starts sewing up his vest in the mimic episode IMMEDIATELY after it gets ripped.

father of three. again, experienced clothes mender, and possibly maker. could have picked up knitting for/from his family, or just for fun.

one of his daughters could have made it for him, so he wears it out of sentimental value; HOWEVER, I don’t know if he would bring something that important into the dungeon. something his daughters taught him how to make, however…

I think he let one of his daughters teach him how to knit. certified girldad.

lockpicking and knitting (and sewing and crochet) have really similar principles, which is “take small stick and use it to move other things around until something happens”. it’s mostly based on feel and rhythm. similar skillset!

i feel like chilchuck is a very restless person. hence, knitting idly. you know what people do in their downtime while sitting around a fire or to stay awake on night watch? some idle activity, like woodcarving. or knitting.

it’s not a scarf, it’s a COWL. chilchuck is at least fully aware that it’s not a scarf. he brings it up in the doppelganger episode. cowls are way more fun to knit than to actually wear, because they’re easy and versatile. 99% of popular ravelry patterns are cowls. knitters love to make cowls. theyre really fun, and usually pretty mindless.

chilchuck is also extremely stubborn, which means that if he went through the effort of making a cowl, he will wear that thing out of spite as much as humanly possible, even when it doesnt match his outfit at fucking ALL. it’s the ONLY colourful thing in his outfit. with a turtleneck and/or button up shirt. he literally never takes it off.

I will literally wear socks that I have knitted, which are a sensory nightmare, because they are SOCKS that i MADE.

someone’s gotta wear it, or itll have been made for nothing!! i cant just let it sit in my closet forever!! thats a waste of a perfectly good cowl!!

I FINALLY found the neckwarmer I lost sometime last year. This was the first version of The Cowl I made, and I had to start it from the beginning because I lost it. It was at the cottage under my parents' bed 😂

The good thing is, it's actually perfectly functional neckwarmer as it is, so after weaving in the ends I can just store it with other cold weather gear to wait for the next winter ❄️

These two free patterns look pretty close to the hooded cowls Enid calls snoods. The first is crocheted, and the second is knit. The article above contains a link to a pattern for the checkerboard sweater vest.

I also found this online.Just continue the pattern to make it longer.

Also, if you're not feeling crafty, this site tells you where to purchase the clothes in the show, or at least lets you see them better so you can look for cheaper versions.

"Oceania Cowl" a fitting name based on its colors. I made this to celebrate the meeting between me and my college lecturer from Kediri. We haven't met for more than 5 months since I departed to Semarang back in May. It was a lovely meeting and I wanted to give her something before she went back to Kediri. Thus i made this, despite me realizing that making wearable crochet is not my forte, haha.
