Still isn’t Valentine’s day (and is actually farther away than yesterday lmao) but here we go. I’ll split it up by pairing so people can read what they want.

Peterick: Pete is able to convince Patrick they should take a day off because it’s Valentine’s Day, Trick, come on! A day of looovvee, don’t you love me? It’s not the guilt-trip that does Patrick in, but the fact that he knows Pete will pout the rest of the week if he doesn’t. They go out to see a movie, that new Star Wars one, and Pete cuddles against him and holds his hand. Then they have dinner at that one place Patrick’s been wanting to try for ages, and Pete gets an ice cream sundae for dessert. When they get home, Patrick’s surprised to find Pete has decorated their room with rose petals and candles, all too cheesy, but very thoughtful, and Pete looks so excited and proud of his work, tail wagging and eyes bright, so Patrick, of course, takes full advantage of the mood.

Joncer: Spencer says he really just has no time for things like Valentine’s Day, and honestly people should be showing their love for him all the time anyways, so what’s the point? Jon laughs, ruffles his hair and tweaks his ears, but something about him seems kind of disappointed even though Spencer tries to ignore it. He can’t, in the end, and surprises even himself by coming home with a dozen roses and a box of chocolates that he lays in Jon’s lap before kissing him very softly, and almost a little hesitantly as if he were nervous of all things. The smile against his mouth makes it all worth it though, and he tugs Jon back to the bedroom with a smile of his own, and a strange sense of pride in his chest. 

Ryden: Ryan doesn’t dare fool himself into believing that Brendon wouldn’t want to go all out for Valentine’s Day, so he begins working ahead of time so as to not get behind when the actual holiday comes around. His boyfriend wakes to breakfast in bed with heart-shaped waffles and kisses lightly pressed all over his cheeks and then is treated to a spa day with Ryan including couples massages, facials, and a nice, warm bubble bath. He seems more than pleased, tail swishing contentedly as Ryan carefully dries him off, and Ryan thinks (thankfully) that’ll probably be the end of it. But he’s surprised to find a nicely wrapped box sitting on the bed that he knows Spencer must have helped Brendon with, and when he opens it he finds two shiny guns that have he and Brendon’s initials engraved on them. Maybe Valentine’s Day isn’t so bad.

Listening Podcast Debuts: Musicians Turn Their Surroundings Into Songs

Like a riptide that usually cannot be seen from the surface of the water but is powerful nonetheless, original music for podcasts is a phenomenon with strong currents powering the trend. If you’re one of the millions who have listened to the hit true-crime podcast Serial then you’ll recognize the delicate piano sounds of its theme song, written by Canadian indie rocker Nick Thorburn.

The fiction podcast, Run, Rose, Run was co-written by country music legend Dolly Parton and high-selling fiction author James Patterson. For that podcast, Parton produced an album with original music.

Now, a podcast of original music called Listening, a brand-new podcast from Talkhouse and Mailchimp Presents invites some of the world’s most beloved, inventive musicians to create new compositions.

The first four episodes were released August 10th, featuring 1) Jeff, Spencer and Sammy Tweedy, 2) Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee, 3) Mdou Moctar and 4) Neko Case. Each of them will discuss and debut their exclusive piece of music, in addition to talking about the ways in which deeper listening informs their process, and how that practice can enrich all of our lives.

Upcoming installments will be released in pairs on a weekly basis through the end of August, including new works and conversation from Laraaji, JLIN, Magnetic Fields’ Stephin Merritt, Vagabon, MC Taylor of Hiss Golden Messenger, and Björk. It’s equal parts podcast and concept album, and I don’t think you’ve ever heard a show like it.

“I think this very well might be the most ambitious music podcast series ever made,” says Ian Wheeler, Founder of Talkhouse Creative Studio and Executive Producer of Listening. “We’re so incredibly grateful to the artists and our partners at Mailchimp for working with us to create something so wonderful and meaningful.”

“The last couple of years have blurred the lines of how we live, what’s important and how we express ourselves,” adds Julie Douglas, Senior Podcast Manager and Executive Producer of Mailchimp Studios. “And this podcast is a reflection of that, with amazing artists-musicians creating a kind of call and response to the world in the form of original compositions with companion commentary, and our friends and collaborators at Talkhouse acting as thoughtful translators and bringing these stories to life.”

Spencer being grumpy and refusing to tell Jon why or even talk to him, so Jon just pets his hair and toys with his ears, doing other work like writing music or reading, but keeping Spencer close in case he decides to spill what’s got his panties in a twist. Spencer doesn’t, but he does scoot a little closer every once in a while and eventually ends up dozing against Jon’s side, waking up in a much better mood. 

Spencer being super picky about what he eats and Jon can almost never win because even if it’s something Spencer’s eaten before, there’s a good chance he doesn’t want it that day and instead wants something he’s never mentioned once in his entire goddamn life. Still, it gives Jon the opportunity to try new things, so he doesn’t complain...to much.

Spencer always being able to tell when Jon’s getting too stressed so he’ll come over and rub against him, nosing against his cheek and brushing his hands over the seam of Jon’s jeans like he doesn’t know exactly what he’s doing. Typically breathy, needy moans end up coming from Jon’s lips as Spencer jerks him off quite smugly, teasing him and nipping at his jawline just to let him know that Spencer knows how bad he wants it.
