Dear Tumblr,
Today, I received word that the studio I've worked for some time now had decided to do a furlough, and unfortunately I am included in it.
While normally this wouldn't affect me too much, we had endured several delayed salary payments for 2+yrs now, causing majority of our plans in life to be put on hold, and for them to say that it's the quickest way to bounce back is to furlough somewhat grinds my gear. Though they say that they won't forget about the backlogs and will call upon us when new projects start, the fact that the show we worked on some years ago is still not paid in full makes me not trust their words 100%.
I do have freelance jobs aside from them, but it is not as stable as a regular position which I have in this studio.
This may sound like I am looking for a new stable job (which I am, irl), I am merely finally letting out the frustrations and disappointments I've been bottling up for some time now.
But if somehow, this reach some people, take a look at my demoreel. I'm not confident in talking to new people (surprising how I even got a position, but maybe because it's work and not casual setting) but I am confident in my skills in animation.
youtube
Also, it'll help me immensely in its own little way if you read my works in Tapas and Neovel; technically the same stories but it's more about the reader's reading platform preference.

I have uploaded on a few sites!
Tapas: I've had the most success on Tapas and it's my main upload platform. I really like being able to instantly edit chapters and adding images and such is nice. Speaking of nice, the readers on there for my stories at least are SUPER nice. You can get donations from readers with Tapas' ink dealie but I haven't had consistent ink getting so YMMV.
Scribble Hub: I've had a good experience with Scribble Hub as well; uploads and edits are easy but images are a bit more of a pain (you have to upload them to another site first).
Neovel: My readership was pretty low on this site but I also didn't put a lot of effort into promo on it and stopped uploading fairly quickly so it might mostly have been my bad there, my main issue with Neovel outside of readership was my chapters getting uploaded out of order (it thought "10" was "1" and wouldn't let me fix it) but I dunno if that's fixed.
Amazon Kindle Vella: Tried this one when it first launched in a 'oooh shiny new thing i could be there at the launch and if it gets big i'll be right there' moment of me being very optimistic; I'm not sure if it's better now but this was a pain. Amazon wants ownership of your story, you can't upload it anywhere else, and edits take FOREVER to go through, like you have to submit an edit and then just wait for it to go live while all the other sites let you edit instantly. They encourage making most of the chapters premium so readers can buy them but that just meant nobody read my story past the first three free chapters. You also can't just delete your story whenever you want, I had to request to be taken off and got an email back like 'normally we wouldn't let you delete but your readership is low so we approved it.' like THANKS kindle vella. lovely.
For any of the sites, it does take a while to build a readership and my best advice is consistent, regular uploads, I could ramble on about tips for web novels if asked! :>
Writers who publish your stories online, where do you put them? I'm thinking about releasing chapters of my stories, but I'm not sure where.
Does anyone have any ideas that they're willing to share?

After the Rain Comes the Sun - Chapter 49
On the day when classes started again, Fran was scowling towards the school, when he heard someone's voice behind him. He turned and saw Mateo waving and running towards him with a smile. Fran immediately cheered up. Mateo was panting as he reached Fran. When he managed to catch some air, he looked cheerfully at his friend and said, "Finally we meet again."
Fran smiled back at him, and Mateo's face suddenly became serious. "I was a little worried when you told me you had to get rid of your cell phone. What was that?"
"It's a long story." Fran answered and waved his hand with a slight smile. He didn't feel like explaining everything to Mateo.
"Alright, no problem," Mateo said, shrugging it off. "So now you don't have a cell phone anymore?" He asked, looking at him sympathetically. Fran took a deep breath and replied, "Yes, unfortunately. But it doesn't matter, let's not talk about it now. Let's go so we won't be late for school." Mateo nodded in agreement and the two friends started walking towards the school gates. As they walked, Mateo couldn't help but notice that Fran seemed distracted and down.
He knew what was bothering him. Returning to school for Fran means facing problems from last semester. And there is Vlado, who will surely try to make his life miserable again. Mateo felt sad and helpless because he didn't know what to say or do to cheer Fran up, and it was hard for him to see him like that.
At school, in the second class, Fran and Mateo had Croatian. Mateo listened attentively to what the teacher was explaining while Fran stared out the window and thoughtfully counted the cars passing by on the road.
"I forgot to tell you, I have an announcement for you my dear students!" The teacher said loudly. The students stopped what they were doing and looked her way, even Fran, though he still had a disinterested look on his face. The teacher cleared her throat, and then with a smile on her face she began to speak, "Starting tomorrow, we are introducing a new extracurricular activity, the 'Reader's Club'. All of you who like to read can join. Those who join, will get an A for commitment!"
There was a murmur in the class. The students murmured enthusiastically among themselves, seriously considering joining the Readers' Club. Mateo was one of them.
"Did you hear that Fran? We'll get an A if we join. I don't know about you, but that seems like a great opportunity to get a good grade without the effort." Mateo whispered in Fran's ear.

Monetizing your fiction online
These platforms pay writers for web fiction
Tumblr media
Photo by Jess Bailey on Unsplash
With digital publishing becoming more popular, writers have also been flocking to self-publishing their content using dedicated platforms for book publishing. Some of these platforms have programs where writers can monetize their content, whether from ad-share programs or reader subscriptions. Platforms made for web novels and webcomics will be included.
This will be a list of those platforms where writers can earn. Platforms that won’t be included are those that have no monetization options, and sites like Wattpad which don’t offer monetization to all users. Platforms that only offer monetization through publishing contracts will also be excluded.
DISCLAIMER: Before using any of these platforms, please research and investigate their terms and policies to ensure that they are a good fit for you. Based on my research, none of these platforms have any glaringly obvious red flags (such as terms that state that you transfer ownership) and none have exclusivity clauses (i.e.: You’re able to post to multiple of these platforms at once).
Some of these platforms also have publishing programs in addition to offering a platform. Please avoid signing any contracts which you don’t fully understand.
Novels and comics
Here are the platforms that allow users to post both novels and comics.
Tapas — Offers two ways for users to earn: ad revenue and by creators locking chapters of their series which readers pay to unlock. To start earning from ads, the creator must have at least 100 subscribers.
Inkspired — Allows writers to create paid membership plans to monetize their audience. Allows posting in multiple formats: Story with chapters, interactive stories, short tale, comics, and microfiction. Also allows users to post in multiple languages
VoyceMe — All content on VoyceMe is completely free to read; creators earn from ads and reader sponsorships, which allows readers to pay $5-$40 directly to writers.
Novels
Fictionate.me — According to this platform, writers can “Choose a payment model for your readers — Pay per book, pay per chapter, or have a monthly subscription. You earn the way you want to while giving your readers a choice of how to pay.”
Though it is specifically for books, it seems possible to upload comics as FictionateMe has an option to upload EPUB files.
This platform also allows writers to automatically generate a natural-sounding audio version.
Neovel — Pays writers based both on number of reads.
Creative Novels — Creators can earn by locking their chapters which readers have to pay to unlock.
Odeen — A relatively small app that seems to not have much traffic anymore. Offers 90% ad revenue to writers. All stories are free to read, and it allows writers to post in many languages.
Kindle Vella — Also allows creators to earn by locking chapters. The first three chapters are free and the rest are pay-to-read.
Note: Be sure to read through Vella’s rules. There are multiple content guidelines to keep in mind, such as being unable to publish “content that is in the public domain or freely available on the web.” So, creators are unable to publish on both Vella and Royal Road at the same time, for instance.
Comics
Webtoons — A free-to-read comics platform. Creators earn from ad revenue or allowing users to pay for early access with Fast Pass.
GlobalComix — Creators earn by having users spend credits they buy to gain access to their comics, graphic novels, or manga.
Dillyhub — Offers a variety of monetization options, including selling content, renting content, or selling early access to readers.

Yumi's Story WIPS so Far (08/22/20):
FANFICTIONS ON AO3
Mafia Black, Dearest (chuuyaxdazai)
In which Dazai would tear the heavens apart and kill anyone who dared lay their hands on his husband and their son.
Georgette (chuuyaxdazai)
The redhead petite mafioso was holding hands with a beautiful-still not as beautiful as Dazai-woman as he lovingly smiled at her.
Dazai was definitely not jealous.
ORIGINAL STORIES
Next Door Dates and Kisses (adult romance comedy novel) now available on the reader app Neovel
Thalia Lin had just moved into her new apartment, after getting hired as the new marketing assistant for a relatively new cosmetics company. The upside to her apartment was how affordable it was despite having a spacious and clean interior. The downside to it was the neighbors.
Just one neighbor actually.
Luca Demonte is infamous for holding parties in his apartment every single weekend. With a decent paying job and lots of free time in his hands, what more could a carefree guy like him want? Not to mention, he's got a cute neighbor to cook his meals every weekend in exchange for not holding parties and driving her to work.

Another interesting place is Neovel. It’s a pretty new platform that was funded through Kickstarter. It has a system for remunerating writers: there’s a premium subscribion for readers of three dollars, and half of it goes to the site, half gets divided between writers based on how many chapters of their works have been read.
I was considering to publish there a webserial I’ve been brewing, and I recently started using it as a reader. It’s still buggy, but the support staff answers immediately, and the platform makes it very easy to keep track of where you left a story.
You retain the copyright and publishing rights of your work.
It seems promising, maybe someone who has used it as a writer can share how their experience has been so far?
writers… writers on tumblr… [tapping the glass from the inside of my enclosure] does anyone have opinions on the best places to post longform and/or serial writing? obviously some pieces can be placed in a single tumblr post, but others are multi-chapter or much much longer…
the only place really coming to my mind is wattpad, and i do like their inline commenting system, but I Do Not Trust Like That. i have thought of medium but know little about it (they let you post fiction on medium, right?). i could of course just post things in tumblr posts and thus keep everything confined to my blog… but what do i do when i try to write a short story and end up with 23k words of my main character’s gender crisis. i could post a google doc link, i suppose… and then of course there is making one’s own website but i… haven’t the faintest idea how to do that.
this is a genuine question; feel free to rb/reply if you have answers?

Bright Morn of Issarether serial now international
Tumblr media
You can now find Bright Morn of Issareth at www.neovel.io a serial platform out of Paris, France, that can be accessed all over the world.
We'll remain on the Kindle Vella platform at the same time. Vells is US based and is not available outside the US.
We're currently loading in the volumes to Neovel so it will take a little time and then both sites (for those who prefer to pay Amazon) will run concurrently.
A few of the differences in the two sites are that made me chose going with Neovel.io:
We can include artwork in the chapter uploads, which makes it very nice for my terrific artist Rachel Anne Jones have her work seen by many more people. This is not allowed on Vella.
We can link! Kindle Vella does not allow us to link to webpages (like my own for Bright Morn website.
We can insert chapters, this way if you have chapter 25 and 26 you need to put another chapter between them you can put 25.1. Again, something else kindle vella would not let us do.
We're looking forward to a good working relationship.

Good news! The Neovel serial platform where you can read Bright Morn of Issareth is having a huge FREE event for selected Asian Themed stories and Bright Morn was tapped to participate. As you can see, "Shackles" by Lark Cayling was also.
You'll be able to read 80% of selected serials for free. After that you'll need a "neopass" to open more chapters. (very reasonably priced)
Currently I have over 450 chapters (volumes 1, 2, 3, 4 and partially 5) loaded into the platform. That means that you'll be able to read volumes, 1, 2, 3 and part of four because 80% of that (over 360 chapters) will be a FREE read.
Neovel offers some fun and unique features. Art work is included in the chapters (third picture above), and writers are able to insert chapters and information between established chapters.
Right now the first 10 chapters of the serial are available and on Friday the rest will be there for the reading.
As always, check out Bright Morn's full website for cosplay costumes, artwork, character information and more.
