there are a Million ways to be a system. don't limit yourself or Restrict your idea of them too harshly. speak to multiple systems if you want better references for depicting them (or just to know how they work) because every system is different and unique

Throwing my hat into the elves and culture discussion, I think one of the things that I find most... upsetting is _what_ Bioware took from Judaism to make their elves. Which is to say, not a lot. What they took was Jewish history - ghettos, diaspora, and blood libel. The bad parts. Stuff about our oppression. Not stuff from Judaism as a religion or Jews as a culture. We don't get to see elves celebrate any cognates to Jewish holidays. There's no equivalent of kashrut or Yiddish or Ladino (despite that not making sense with the Dales being around for four centuries). The two most defining features of Dragon Age elves, the vallaslin and the Evanuris, directly contradict Jewish teachings. Jews started writing down our history and laws as soon as we lost our homeland and independence to Babylon, but it's written into the fabric of Dragon Age that the elves didn't, and their story is one of obtaining a lost past, not preserving a remembered one. It's even indicated that the city elves largely worship the Maker.

In thoughtful hands this could be a story about how Jews are seen as a religion when it's convenient to oppress us one way and a race when it's convenient to oppress us another, but it's not. Instead the impression I am left with is that in the mind of Dragon Age, Jews are defined solely by our oppression.

this came up earlier when an anon asked about making an elven oc from a (marginalised) cultural context they themselves aren’t from and i think it always comes down to a question of whether oppression and suffering are the only things you’re interested in or whether you care enough to learn about community, family and joy. and bioware seems to fail to clear this bar every time it comes to the elves.

i truly think some of the most incredible work in this fandom has come from fans putting those things back into the setting.

being part of a relatively niche fandom but not having discord feels like being one of the three people alive that enjoy the media in question. i hate it here.

when did discord become the norm. it's so stressful and there are so many unknown people all at once that already know each other and you're supposed to what? fit in? and god forbid timezones exist, because when 90% of the fandom is from the US and you're from literally anywhere else you're gonna miss out on almost every interesting conversation unless you fuck your sleep schedule up. and trying to find mutuals on tumblr, currently the least bad social media site by a ginormous margin, is like pulling teeth. because why would anyone interact with you when knowing nothing about you.

and this sucks so much! i want to talk about the Dimension 20 seasons I'm obsessed with, i want to talk about Vocaloid songs, I wanna talk about translation, I wanna talk about Ace Attorney, I wanna talk about Miraculous Ladybug without having to preface everything with a disclaimer so people don't get irrationally mad, I wanna talk about fucking STUCKY in 2025 because it rewired my brain TEN YEARS AGO and it feels like Nobody gets it like I do, man i want fandom to get OUT of discord once and for all!!! PLEASE !!!!!! Have the conversations out in the open where I, a discordless person, can actually See them and maybe even Participate in them!!!!

A new chapter of ‘Transdimensional Arc, Alcor Finds a Ford!’ (by @random-dragons-interest-hoarde) came out, so I revisited some old doodles from back when chapter two was published. (These are newer versions)

I tried to be clever on how dinosaur clothing would work on Ford, but I think I just made it needlessly complicated

“Why does Ford’s fin look different?” Because no one can agree what the Spinosaurus looked like and I stopped paying attention, only to realize my mistake while writing this post.

I think it's so interesting to think about the unique social implications of things on the islands. Like, the animal hats & how they originally existed for the practical purpose of protection & they kept wearing them even after that wasn't a factor anymore. & how the hats we see in the present day (when Finn & co visit the islands) don't really resemble animal hats, do they? & maybe that's just to make the significant human characters (who do still wear animal hats) seem more distinct but you best believe I'm going to make it into something bigger. Oh I'm so bad at putting my thoughts into words but it's something how the hats evolved into a new meaning. & when robo susan rips friedas hat off its like a very violating moment. Something something hats, the lack thereof, vulnerability. I don't know. Sorry. I was going somewhere with this but I don't know how to explain it. You get it though. Hats are interesting.

I like to think that (when everyone got sick and lots of them died and the rest moved to a new island) there was a bunch of small shifts & the animal -> abstract hats was one of them. And Frieda still wearing her dog hat shows her still holding onto the past in some way. There we go, that's something. This isn't a total nothing post after all

Haven't had one on one time with one of my very dear friends in like FIVE YEARS despite both of us living and working within like 10 minutes of each other for the past three years. Finally got up the courage to make lunch plans for tomorrow though!

i think as an adult aka as a 26 year old when i look back at glee characters its like. if you dont count the five years later scene in the last episode you really do have to remember that all of these characters were 18/19 at the very last season of the show. and suddenly its kinda hard for me to have these like......steadfast THIS CHARACTER DID THIS (outside of verryyyyyy obvious ones) bc its like yeah. they were like 17 that season. i was stupid as fuck when i was 16-19 TRUST me.

8. If you had to write a sequel to a fic, you’d write one for…

Okay so I am actually working on the third part of the little Plague on Both Your Houses series. I could see myself writing a follow up to Evildoers at some point. I don't exactly see myself writing straight sequels to either of these fics but uh. Old school shit. I do still have a fondness for the imagined worlds of Interdimensional Criminals and Infighting of Ancient Gods, even if they weren't super well written or were otherwise tainted over time. I think a part of me still likes the idea of revisting those worlds/concepts one day down the line with a new perspective.

11. A WIP you’d like to finish someday

I think I mentioned this in the last ask game I did like this. But I'd like to properly end Inheritance one day. Also. Uh. The LaHoF ending summary thing. That's one of my goals for spring break is to wrap that up finally. We'll see what happens

My feelings on VnC and PH being connected have fluctuated, but currently, Id be hype to have an allusion/reference to PH but Id dislike an establishment that every Mochijun series will then have to fit into the structure PH created.
