I ate a grub today

hehe so i have been struggling w food contamination ocd. this was very much worsened by an attempt at exposure in july that gave me food poisoning. my appetite was gone for like three weeks. before then i had a difficult relationship with food because i have forced myself to eat growing up leading to eating being a really awful experience...

anyways, my unemployment and determination to not work during school have really forced me to start cooking at home and it has been an immensely pleasurable experience. for the first time in YEARS i am having fun cooking and being creative, going MMMM that's so good in the middle of meals, feeling motivated to feed myself throughout the day. and although i am still struggling with intrusive thoughts about food spoilage i have been slowly been exposing myself, like picking out a slimy-ish green bean washing then eating the ones that were still good next to it. using leftovers from like two days ago instead of throwing them out in fear. idk man i feel like i am making a lot of good progress :)

It has been an amazing experience working as Director of SKY Schools USA Milwaukee at International Association For Human Values but an amazing opportunity recently came up that I have accepted. I am extremely thankful to Bill Herman for introducing me to breathwork and meditation, to Elan Gepner-Dales for his leadership and trust in me, Susan Ramsundarsingh for teaching me how to keep people at the center of programming, and Matt Nink for showing me how collaborative leadership looks. I also what to thank the rest of the team – that’s too big – to count, let alone give individual shoutouts, for their support over the last six years. I’ve taken on the Community Program Coordinator position at Medical College of Wisconsin – helping to eradicate the cancer in Wisconsin and beyond. My team, department of Community Outreach & Engagement, led by Dr. Charles Rogers and guided by Debra Nevels. My focus will be on men’s health; bringing education, information, and opportunities to reduce cancer disparities in under-resourced and represented communities. I’m excited for this next step and I’m feeling empowered that I’m able to continue learning and growing by serving others. Dear Journal,

Today feels different. For the first time, I'm not writing on paper. I didn't have the courage to open my usual journal, the one I've been writing in since 2016. It's strange, I know, but I think I'm afraid of what I might write. This moment in my life feels so important that I don't know how to put it into words.

It's August 31st, and everything is changing for me. I'm leaving my parents' house, my city, to live somewhere else, three hours away, in a new city, to start university. I'll meet new people there, and I'm both nervous and excited. Here, I've often felt a huge pressure, like something was suffocating me. As I leave, I’ve also decided to change my look: I cut my hair really short. It’s a big change, and I'm not sure if I love it yet, but I'm learning to accept myself as I am.

I have a feeling this year is going to be different, special. I'm excited to meet people who will change the way I see things, who will help me push past my fears and limits—the ones I've often set for myself. I want to become a better person, to give more love to those around me. That’s what really matters to me. Sometimes, I doubt myself, but I know I’m brave enough to become the person I want to be: more patient, stronger, and more confident. I want to walk with my head held high, to fake confidence until it becomes real. I know that if I believe in myself, I can achieve anything I want.

I trust God to help calm my fears, and I’m so grateful for everything He has given me: a loving family, a roof over my head, food to eat, and so much more. Sometimes, I forget how lucky I am. I have inner peace and a deep sense of gratitude. There are moments when I feel like I'm watching my life from the outside, like I'm living in a movie. And tonight, I realized that I’m really leaving, building something new, starting from scratch. It’s scary, but mostly, I feel thankful.

I know I’ll succeed this year. I’m ready to work hard to make my family proud. And even though I’m sometimes afraid of being alone, I know I’ll never really be alone. God is with me, right behind me, watching me smile and cry at the same time. I can’t wait to see what this new adventure holds.

First Steps on the Island 

The balloon had barely landed when Caitmilly and Rufus jumped out of the basket, eager to run down to the sea. But Victor managed to stop them just in time! He needed to show them their accommodation before taking off again. He also wanted to point out the meeting spot where they would rendezvous with Sylvanus Lensbright, who would brief Caitmilly on the plan for the upcoming days. Both were fidgeting with excitement, like two children seeing the ocean for the first time!
