July 18, 1922 Everett True by A.D. Condo
Hell yeah, Everett, you tell them robber barons what's what.
[ID: Everett walks grumpily down the sidewalk with a tall, thin friend who gestures with a cigar in his hand. /end] Factory Boss: ...and I have the satisfaction of knowing that I've made a lot of money for myself and the stockholders, and at the same time, I've paid good union wages.
[ID: The man stops in his tracks, Everett having shoved his hat down over his head and broken it. The factory boss drops his cigar on the pavement as Everett keeps walking out of frame. /end] Everett: Yes, after you had a couple of strikes, you're paying union wages in the factory!!! Your generosity, however, doesn't extend to your office help!!!

Within a year of the end of the Miners’ Strike, another major UK industrial action had dramatic implications for an entire industry’s workforce. This time the disruption involved printers working for Rupert Murdoch’s News International, at that time publisher of The Times, Sun and News of the World.
On February 15th, 1986, BBC News reported;
“…Eight police officers have been injured and 58 people arrested in the worst outbreak of violence yet outside the News International printing plant in Wapping, east London…Police estimated 5,000 demonstrators gathered near the printing works for a mass demonstration…Similar mass protests have taken place regularly outside the Wapping plant ever since the start of a strike three weeks ago over new working conditions and the move from Fleet Street to cheaper premises in East London…”
New computer-based production technologies meant that a significantly reduced workforce would be required to operate the new plant. News International management had secretly secured the cooperation of the EETPU (electricians’ union) and created a parallel workforce. Around 6 000 Fleet Street printworkers were summarily dismissed immediately upon striking, and production began at the new plant with virtually no delay.
Rupert Murdoch said of his dealings with the print unions;
“…For 17 years there, I lay down and had these people run over me. Day after day, week after week, month after month, with bad, idle wasteful practices in all our plants…”
In response to a reporter’s question he denied that he was out to break the printers’ unions, but to preserve his newspapers ‘for the people that do work for them’.
The General Secretary of SOGAT 82 (Society of Graphical and Allied Trades), Brenda (later Baroness) Dean (1943-2018), described the behavior of Murdoch and his company as a ‘conspiracy of deceit’ over secretly recruiting strike-breaking labour while negotiations between her union and News International management were ongoing. Having discussed with police plans for orderly and peaceful picketing, she blamed extreme left and right agitators, a destructive minority ‘rent-a-mob’, for the picket line violence that ensued.
A senior Metropolitan Police officer concurred;
“..We saw the classic example of honest well-intentioned union members supporting their cause being joined by diverse elements whose only interest was in causing as much trouble as possible…”
News International did not lose a single night of production during the thirteen months of industrial action, which resulted in over 1200 arrests and 410 police officers being injured. With echoes of the Miners' Strike, police were accused of aggressive and heavy handed tactics against picketers and also local residents, many of whom were sympathetic to the strikers.
The strike ended in defeat for the unions, and by 1988 all the major national newspapers had moved their printing operations away from Fleet Street with labour saving technology.

I have an unpopular opinion that unlike most ppl I dont think it's know in industry that louis is gay and he is with harry. Few might suspect it but I don't think it's a well know fact. especially post hiatus and babygate. I think any closet which includes babygate is an iron closet and not a glass one like Harry's. Also louis stunting with Sofie when he coincidentally had to attend some parties in LA makes me think his stunts are also meant for industry. Like el used to be at x-factor shootings. and that's why I feel he loves touring so much. except the one la show that's the only part of his job where he is completely free without any bullshit attached.
Hi! It depends on which part of the industry i guess. During 1D HL was all over each other backstage. They knew it would be kept within the industry because of NDAs and a code of silence. Industry people want to keep their jobs and they know all about fakery, hinding the gay, twisted image protrayals and PR stunts. The industy is very gossipy within the industry, and there are several 'worst kept secrets' everyone knows about. I don't think HL hides within the industry.
The Sofie stunt was so quick and i think it served two purposes (1) to confirm the end of elounor (2) to promote his documentary. I don't think Louis is stunting for the industry to believe it. What is he gaining from that? E being at txf was to show that their relationship was organic. There were hundreds of fans present. People used that argument all the time 'she/he wouldn't be there if it wasn't real'. ie. when she went to jays wedding or when louis went to her graduation. There were just so many people who didn’t buy it that they had to stunt on occations like that for it to seem somewhat believable.

#my wife just left on a work trip#she'll be gone for two nights. so that's two nights and two mornings with the kids 🤪#the baby still wakes up for her multiple times a night. he's NOT going to like this lmaooooo#that's the part that I'm most worried about#i already do most of the getting them ready in the morning so it's just adding bringing the 5yr old to school down the road#and the evenings will just be whatever... surviving lol. I'll clean during the day when i should be working#i can do this. i can do anything for just a couple days!#...and then next week my wife goes on ANOTHER work trip!! hagagaghahaahhahah 🫠#only one night though#to be clear. when she agreed to this first trip she had no idea that they would both be back to back like this#and travel isn't going to be a THING for her really. just one offs once in a while like this.#this is her first one and she's already been a consultant for like two years#one good thing about the pandemic. as much as the business newspaper articles want to convince you.....#remote work is here to stay. for people in specialized careers anyway. they will NEVER get us back into offices lmao#my wife never wanted to become a consultant because of the travel#if it weren't for covid she would still be doing emergency management and business continuity in-house#(and i would still be driving across LA county 50+ minutes each way lmao)#anyway. traveling to work for clients in person on a regular basis is pretty much over in her industry#thank god#I CAN DO THIS

“As well as his talent and beauty, River was famous for seizing any opportunity to discuss vegetarianism and the environment with often bemused entertainment reporters. [Samantha Mathis] told me that, while River loved the work and the opportunities to talk about his beliefs, he hated the “industry bullshit”, and his relationship with success was complicated.” — The Guardian [Nov, 2019]

they can't just talk about her job no

This made me laugh SO HARD. This guy is just a fairly minor background character, he's just an extra private detective (see, he's got the coat to prove it!) hanging around a bus stop reading the paper inconspicuously. But the paper is 100% a prop that was used as one of the scene wipes a few episodes prior.
I love when props departments do this! I love re-using little things like this in order to maintain the world of the show and to not introduce outside news outlets. It just tickles me.

I went through coverage of the teachers' strike and broke down just how much bullshit there is from broadcasters and newspapers alike, including the BBC
"That twist is followed by this chart:
Tumblr media
You can’t teach a lesson without planning a lesson; without marking you can’t tell how students are responding to and learning from teaching; your school can’t have data on pupil performance or function as an organisation without management and admin; interacting with pupils and parents is also an intrinsic part of teaching. ‘Other’ likely includes things like assisting with extra-curricular activities and taking part in professional development. All the chart demonstrates is that The Daily Telegraph is either ignorant about what teachers do or playing at ignorance in service of its ideology (I lean heavily towards the latter)..."
