Magics of the World
Figured it was high time to start explaining some lore, and since it'll be a focus of the next chapter, I suppose the magic system is a good place to start.
So the Magic of this canon is based on the existence of 4 different existences. The Where that magic comes from. That being the Planes;
The Mundane; Where the story at large takes place. Finite spaces where you'd find humans, mutants, aliens, the usual stuff. It's the central Happening spot, with shaky origins as to why it exists at all.
The Primal Plane; This is where ANY AND ALL Elemental magic comes from. And we're not just talking the commonly thought of Fire, Water, Wind, Electricity, Ice, Earth, nope. It's E V E R Y T H I N G. If there's a magic school for it, it's found here. The Primal Plane is an endless expanse, seemingly, where the local zone is what determines the types of magic you'll find in your world. From Technomancy to Pyromancy to Astromancy. The Primal Plane is also, incidentally, where elemental creatures would reside or originate from, from raw elementals to dragons, quetzals, and kitsune.
The Nthotay; One of two Conceptual magic planes. This one is of Light and Order, and where you'd find creatures you'd classically hear called "Angels" or "Angelic."
The Nthatic; The other of the Conceptual magic planes, this one, of course, being the polar opposite of the Nthotay, embodying Darkness and Chaos. You'd find creatures you'd classically hear referred to as "Demons" or "Demonic."
So how does one actually Cast magic? There's a few ways, but two overall reasons you can cast magic. Either you, A; Are from one of the "extraplanes" (aka Not the Mundane), or B; Have something from the extraplanes with you. Be it a flower, crystal, scar, or even a possession or familiar from the extraplanes, any of these with the correct attunement and practice can allow you to cast magic. And once you're attuned to such an item, you're ready to go on your magic journey, from the lowest level flicking your wrist to light a candle, to sending meteorite swarms from your fingertips.

Summon the portal
We open the gate
We step through the doorway...

The world is unfolding
Phantasmagorical circuitry, photonic energy pulsing, bioelectrical feedback growing
Exotic matter blooming from behind our eyes, Out from our fingertips and growing, spreading
Countless micro singularities swelling, the information radiating, data in every form feeding evolutionary cycles

Down the well we plunge and activating as we focus
We become the strange attractor
We become the font from which the wellspring fills and flows
The Scintillating Scotoma parcels reality into forms of choosing

We realize new heights upon the steps as the ziggurat grows beneath us
Each new plane of thought discord in reaction and then finding place amongst the synchronicities we were seeking
Patterns beyond us that did come from within us and now we find ourselves dancing a tune that happens one step ahead

I just get the impression that Akechi is Reverie's Mean Bitch Boyfriend and everyone in the Thieves is baffled that they are going out because what the fuck does Reverie see in this guy. And all the girls are like "ooooooh. Okay."
But Akechi just speaks to Reverie on another level. So much of Reverie's life is being contained and not causing too much trouble because his probation thing, but Akechi is like a total fucking asshole and responds best when Reverie is an asshole right back, and like. Man. I get it. I really get it lmao.
Its easy to imagine Reverie hanging out with the gang and saying something just a little too Fucking Mean and they're like "did you have lunch with Akechi" and he's like ".... Oh. Yeah. Whoops. Sorry, I'll dial it back."

MEANWHILE out lil sister is having a hard time. Like, man, not to diminish the pain anyone went through because Maruki's deal, but Yusuke and Futaba and Haru in particular have it really goddamn rough and it's painful.

I love every moment that the game lets you be understanding and empathetic with Futaba.

This moment in particular should be stamped on the brain of everyone who has mental illness. Futaba tries to tell Reverie he should be mad at her, because she's angry with herself and wants to sublimate that emotion onto others. She wants him to be mad at her because then it's almost easier to deal with all of this happening. It's a situation where kindness almost hurts more than the reprimand, but kindness is still what's needed.
persona 5 royal where has this writing been!!!!!! i'm yelling

Anyway, Futaba pops her final persona. Glow down. I want A Dark Planet Lit By Daft Punk again. 8C It's fine, it's not terrible, the reference is neat, but also sigh.
I do like the Technomancy vibe of Futaba. The framing of her work that way is neat.

Next up is my man Yusuke and okay, one: Yusuke's winter outfit is FLY AS HELL, look at that. Look at how gorgeous that jacket is, with the ink bottle teal and the bold buttons and the skinny jeans. Amazing, truly.
Two, this room makes me want to scream. There is a cardboard box of fruit that makes me think he walked through a park and just picked stuff to eat and then decided it was all too photogenic so its set aside for a still life. The supplies on the floor, the canvases blocking his fucking storage space, this is all just pitch fucking perfect.
Love that he's a prospit dream honestly.

I'll be real, going to every Thief and having them apologize to Reverie for falling for Maruki's trick is a little bit blah, but the extra details for each is fun. The moment when Yusuke is so ashamed he won't even look at Reverie is nice and heartfelt.

funny how when i talk to futaba the game always gives me the exact options i wanna say but never with yusuke
sigh

oh my dear fucking god
i mean. wow. i don't really see Yusuke's soul in the Pimpdaddy Maestro of the Techno Goth Club?
This one is even more baffling than the Susano-o persona for him, so I'm just. Yeah. OKay.
To be clear: This design is amazing, I love it, I LOVE THE SHOES, LOOK AT THOSE FUCKING SHOES. but wow. Yusuke huh. Okay. I miss Goemon.

that said he gets Heat Riser But For The Whole Party and wow holy shit that's so powerful

Ryuji time. Once again the game gives me the option I want.
Listen. I am mad at how not gay this game is. If Ryuji was the only gay option, I'd still go stag. Or date Haru. (man i shoulda dated Haru)
anyway Ryuji's is particularly blah but the only amusing moment is when he decides his punishment is to do standing squats until Reverie says he can stop
opens mouth
shuts mouth
Nah I'll save my thoughts on Ryuji for later.

anyway Ryuji's persona has joined the 1% i guess bc he's on a yacht now.
That or he won a free boat ride for three. Where is T-Pain.

Haru confirmed for Prospit, as if there was any doubt.
Her room makes me nervous tbh, like, I feel like I'm in a southern furniture showroom. Did HGTV do this, Haru?

LOVE THIS SENTIMENT. I love that when kindness is offered she is flat out like "Thank you but that's not what I need right now." That's powerful tbh, I love it.

HARU GETS TO SAY THE THESIS OF THE PLOTLINE OUT LOUD.
So fucking what if you put a band aid on everyone's fucking problems? New problems will arise. Do you intend to delete each and every one?
This shit reminds me of rich and powerful people who are born into it and haven't experienced hardship for the majority of their lives, so when something mildly inconvenient happens, they treat it like a federal fucking issue because they have no skills to handle anything.
Maruki's plan is to basically eviscerate everyone's personal growth in perpetuity. Like, as you walk around Shibuya and stuff, you do actually overhear people concerned about all this happiness and the lack of contrasts.
I mean, I'm a depressed poor sick queer who grew up in a trailer park. There are moments in my past that define me and they are Not Good moments. I would still not take Maruki's deal.
Maruki needed to meet Toranosuke honestly and talk about societal reform. You know Tora is one of those "what if we gave addicts places to live for free and created a UBI" people.

GLOW DOWN. There was nowhere to go but down when you have the literal best persona in the main cast. But also that Life Wall is amazing.
I overwrote Psy Amp for it. I am dedicated to my build on Haru. She walks up and its time for the Gun Show. I wish she got Akechi's Riot Gun skill, you have NO idea. She'd tear shit UP and give Myriad Truths a run for its money.

anyway here is Futaba and Ann petting Morgana. shout out to Akechi all the way in the back trying to ignore everyone.
ANYWAY we're at the end of this post and I'm gonna complain about Ryuji, feel free to peace out.
So Persona really likes having the one party member who is kind of stupid. Just... not book smart and always doing poorly in class and always missing out on vital information. It's good joke fodder, I get it.
In P4, that was Kanji and Chie, and in P3 it was Junpei. I respect and love these characters, and I have been banging my head against why I just! I just hate Ryuji! I really do! I have never disliked a persona character this much yet!
And I think the thing about Kanji and Junpei and the other Kinda Dumb characters is that they have low book smarts but they are often the most empathetic and emotionally intelligent characters in the game. Kanji was the fucking HEART of the party from the moment he joined onward, was always coming out and says profound shit, was the one who stepped up and was like "hey lets let Naoto and their shadow hash it out, we can handle the fight and this is going to help them." He was the kindest person in the party.
And Junpei, I still think that was some apex of writing, the time when Junpei was like "hey, I apologize for this thing I did to you, it was disrespectful and I'll do better." And his connection to Chidori was the rocket strapped to his arc. He was emotional and kind and he fucked up several times and he apologized for it.
Ryuji just. LACKS THAT ENTIRELY. He doesn't have that. He's not the emotional heart of the team, he struggles to be empathetic, he upsets people and gets off scott-free without an apology. He's treated like the Best Friend and its so completely unearned. I would not tell Ryuji shit about me because I have no confidence in him being cool. He is Yosuke Hanamura without the rebound, it's Joker Mode all the time.
The ball was so thoroughly dropped with Ryuji I'm kinda baffled, because Atlus is usually good at the Token Best Friend guy and making him one of the more complex characters in each game.
Maybe its because Joker himself is such a strong character that Ryuji doesn't need to act as the stand-in protagonist like Junpei and Yosuke did. Or, maybe it's because functionally Morgana fills Ryuji's role in the party instead so those emotionally intelligent moments are given to Morgana instead.
It's weird and frustrating and I am annoyed at Ryuji both in a Watsonian sense and a Doylist sense.
Okay that's enough hateration holleration in this dancery, lets do the Palace.

ok ok the first questions i could think of iiiiis:
Are Howl and Sophie involved in this au in any way? Like maybe as professors? Are they married yet or do they have some sort of academic rivalry and their students all ship them? i am invested bestie lula
HI BESTIE GABBY I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE INVESTED
howl is a phd student at the university that really should've graduated already but hasn't, and he and sophie own a shop next to campus that ostensibly sells flowers but a lot of people come for spells and gossip too. charmain meets howl via dean pentstemmon and he ends up being her advisor for her minor in witchcraft (despite his best attempts to dissuade her by ignoring her emails). charmain has more contact with martha (who lives in her dorm building) and lettie (who's a TA in her General Alchemy lab) than sophie, but regards her as a bit of a guardian angel bc whenever she gets especially desperate for howl to answer his emails, she asks michael (her RA) to ask sophie to yell at howl and then, like magic, the next morning he's answered her email
a howl-relevant excerpt:
“—which somehow he doesn’t seem to have even read, despite being required reading for a half-dozen upper level sorcery courses! I’ve got spells out my ears for him due every class period and I’m convinced he just sells the practicals and feeds the theoreticals to Calcifer because he hasn’t uploaded any grades whatsoever to the portal, and the midterm deadline was four days ago. Which, for the record, I have emailed him about, but he doesn’t check his emails and half of them get returned-to-sender-ed because he’s got half a dozen names in the system and the computer never knows where to put them—which, come to think of it, might be some sort of technomancy, I wouldn’t put it past him—and I’m beginning to think he’s trying to get rid of me so he can quit teaching for the semester and go back to the flower shop. Peter Regis, you are a dead man.”
He flipped her off as he crammed her sausage patty into his mouth after his own then tapped his wristwatch.
#thanks for asking!!#pretty much everyone from the howl series shows up#as well as a lot of chrestomanci characters in the background#gabby tag

More OC Shenanigans:
So, there exists a thing in this world called a Shaolin Spade.

It is a monk's weapon, and is essentially the cross between a shovel and a battle axe if I am not mistaken. So here's my next installment of OC shenanigans:
After Nehetari rescues her cranky bf-to-be and Clone-Fulgrim from Trazyn the Infinite, Clone-grim confiscates Forgebreaker and beats Perturabo over the head with it for betraying their father. Aware of the Iron Warrior's affinity with shovels, 'Tari decides to replace Turbo's missing weapon with a Shaolin spade that she made herself, tricked-out with all of the finest Necron technology she could fit into it and still make it efficient. She works her way up to it; practicing her new skills in technomancy by creating one spade after another, improving drastically with each one, until she had enough spades to outfit his entire (new) legion. Then she sets about to making HIS spade, a task that could have taken very little time at all using her powers, but she devotes weeks to her craft (and enlisting some instruction from the void dragon shard attached to her) until she comes out with a semi-sentient, virtually indestructible, STC-level complex murder/tool that can read the DNA of anything that touches it, recognizing its owner and molding itself to their exact specifications. Perfectly balanced, unnaturally light to hold while becoming heavy as it is swung to strike, the spade-end is charged blackstone honed to a molecularly thin edge. The flat of the spade head boasts a mass-displacement property as it strikes with a momentum seemingly impossible to achieve with its weight. Furthermore, the pommel of this multi-purpose weapon boasts a pickaxe-like head with two kinetic devastator modules at each tip. Aside from being able to puncture ceramite like wet styrofoam on its own, if these modules are activated a titanic shockwave ripples out from the point of impact as compressed kinetic energy is released into the object, causing it to literally shake apart at the atomic level. Rockcrete is turned to fine powder in seconds, flesh becomes fine mist, and if struck against something like a Titan, not only does the Titan lose whatever was hit, the sound waves from the violently rending metal are so loud that it liquifies any unfortunate personnel inside.
A similar function occurs if someone other than the weapon's recognized wearer attempts to hold the weapon, although instead of reducing the interloper to water vapor the weapon merely shakes so violently in their hands that it becomes impossible to hold.
Obviously, Perturabo is annoyed by her playing into a stereotype cast onto his legion. That is until he sees just how damned effective this weapon actually is. And that Nehetari made it herself. And that she also has several dozen slightly less-destructive models for his entire legion.
Now it's the only melee weapon he uses.

The Gamer Hero, Deku Chapter 27
A/N: Completely totally random fun fact: Five-card Mao is a fun card game where you're not supposed to tell people the rules, except for, I believe, the fact that if you win a round of Five-card Mao you may create a new rule for the game.
xoxoxo
After getting back from Yuuei, the first thing I did was show my mom the paperwork Shuzenji-sensei gave me. We cried tears of joy together and hugged, then she signed it and I decided to go talk to Kacchan. I figured it'd be a good idea to fill him in on my new powers.
"You can what?" Kacchan asked.
"I can copy Quirks now," I answered. He stared at me for a while. "Are you okay?"
He sighed very loudly. "You know what, why not? You can copy Quirks now. Cool." He stuck out his hand. "How do you do it?"
I grinned and made sparks from my hand. "It's a little finicky, though a bit less thanks to an exploit I found out about, but if I fulfill the right conditions I get a copy of a person's Quirk that I can 'buy' from a new menu."
"And those are?"
"I think it's supposed to be just from either beating someone in a fight or potentially from quest rewards, but one of the rewards for the sports festival quest I got was a choice of two Quirks from a pool limited to people from Yuuei. One of the Quirks I picked was a copying Quirk, which thankfully gives me a copy too."
Kacchan nodded. "Yeah I remember that guy. Kind of an asshole. So what was the other one?"
I felt a sting in my eyes as I activated it. My hair felt weird, and while I couldn't see them I assumed my eyes were glowing red. "Try to use your Quirk."
He snorted. "I know what Aizawa-sensei's Quirk looks like, asshole." I laughed and turned it back off. "So you just... have a bunch of Quirks now?"
I shrugged. "There's a limitation. If I have too many Quirks out then it lowers their effectiveness. But yeah, I have a bunch of Quirks now. I got the Quirks of the past One For All users, there are the two I just said, Super Regeneration from that Nomu thing that I bought because it's a passive boost to healing, the Quirks of everyone I beat in the tournament as another quest reward, and my cat's Quirk, which I tested Copy on."
"Damn. And knowing you, you got some other stupid good thing during the sports festival."
I nodded and pulled out my phone, using Technomancy to turn it on and open my pictures without actually pressing any buttons.
"Showoff," Kacchan muttered, then looked at the picture I took earlier. "Is that a fucking tower?"
"Yup. I got a new spell called Imaginary Architect after that last attack in our fight."
"When you threw fucking swords at me?" Kacchan asked.
"Because I threw fucking swords at you. It's an improved version."
"How the fuck is an entire tower an improved version over being able to make some swords?"
"Now I can make anything out of magic, if I have enough power."
He thought for a moment. "Yeah I guess that makes sense."
I switched to the second photo where the tower was dissolving, the only indication that I was interacting with my phone the blue, circuit-like lines that glowed to life on it and my hand when I did. "And this is what happened when I stopped using Imaginary Architect. Pretty, right?"
Kacchan nodded. "Yeah, it kinda is. Don't suppose you've got enough of an understanding of it to teach it to me yet?"
I shrugged and made a small sphere. I tossed it into the air a bit, then dissolved it mid-throw and replaced it with a small cube. I tossed that cube around a bit, added spikes to it, then dissolved it. Next I made a lab coat with a lot more concentration due to how complicated it actually was, actually making it around my body. I managed to make it a lighter shade of blue than the other IA constructs, but in the end it was only almost white. It did, however, behave exactly like a lab coat made of cloth should, down to how it ripped when I pulled one of the sleeves off. Even breaking a part of the construct didn't destabilize it, which was a failing in most Quirks and spells that made temporary objects. Even my Skill Grimoir worked like that. It was that self-contained... "Yeah, I think I should have a good enough grasp on it now. It's a bit complicated, though."
"This isn't gonna be like Meditation where it just doesn't work, is it?"
I shook my head. "No, from what Todoroki told me Meditation has an aspect to it that my Quirk reproduces automatically."
"How the hell'd he know that?"
"Apparently he can sense magic."
Kacchan twitched. "How the shit does he do that?"
"Beats me. Still, the biggest hurdle to you learning Imaginary Architect should just be that it's really complex. You might want to start out with Bound Blade first."
He sighed. "Ugh, fine."
xoxoxo
I spent the rest of the day (and night) switching between grinding both Imaginary Architect and Item Enchantment and reading up on basic architecture. Around midnight, I decided to check out the hero news. I opened up the website I normally used for hero news (not even using my hands, Technomancy was fun) and scrolled through the articles. One caught my eye.
Pro Hero Ingenium Critically Injured by Hero Killer Stain
"That was what you overheard, wasn't it Sonia?" I asked. She nodded quietly. "Well, thanks for giving me a heads up. Come to think of it, I don't suppose you'd be willing to tell me anything you hear about that you think I might need to know? Nothing personal about other people, unless you think they're going to get hurt or something, but stuff like explosions or villainous plotting?"
She smiled. "Yeah, I'll do that!"
"Thanks." I clicked on the article. Yeah it did not look good. "I don't need to tell you to keep an eye on Iida, do I?"
"Nope."
"Thanks..."
I was glad that I was using Technomancy to use the computer, because that freed up both of my hands. My left hand started to glow green with Healing Hands and my right hand glowed purple with Draining Hands to give it something to heal. While I was at it I switched Super Regeneration off. I didn't know if I would be able to help with Iida's brother at all, but it was a reminder of why I got Healing Hands in the first place. I wanted to heal people, and Healing Hands still had its limits even in the nineties.
xoxoxo
I stopped practicing my new skills around noon of the next day to check out one final thing that I had gotten recently that I wanted to mess with. Enlightenment had recently leveled up enough to unlock its next ability:
Allows the user to access their own subconscious mindscape through Meditation.
It would probably be more obviously useful if not for the fact that The Gamer already prevented any form of tampering to my mind, but at the very least it changed Enlightenment from (Passive) to (Active and Passive), meaning that I could hopefully level Enlightenment up at least slightly easier by exploring my mindscape.
I created a perfectly generic object with Imaginary Architect, automatically enchanted with that one slowfall enchantment I'd stumbled upon earlier (though not the floating one), and used Singularity on it. I floated over the construct with my legs crossed in the stereotypical meditation pose and pulled it into the air, adjusting my pull on it when it was halfway between me and the ground so that it just hung there, my 'gravity' pulling on it as much as Earth's. I closed my eyes and let my skills guide me deeper within my own mind.
xoxoxo
I felt like I was falling backwards for what somehow felt like both an instant and an eternity at the same time, scenes from my life flickering in and out of my vision. After that interminable time, I found myself in the foyer of what looked like a hero museum. It felt familiar, and from the looks of it combined some elements from some of the hero museums I'd been in before, though maybe with some other aspects as well. I suppose that made sense, it was my mindscape after all...
The central figure of the foyer was a larger-than-life statue of All Might in a triumphant pose raised on a pedestal.
...
...
Fair enough...
The statue had a spiderweb of large cracks on it, exactly where the real All Might's wound was. "I know this is my mindscape, but is everything in here going to be so on the nose?" I muttered. I shrugged and picked one of the hallways leading out of the foyer at random, one labeled 'Magic,' and walked through it.
"Whoa," I said. The giant room on the other side looked something like the library of a medieval fantasy magic school, instead of the museum theme of the foyer. The walls were lined floor to ceiling with bookshelves packed with books, there were moving models of various moments scattered around the room, an ornate pedestal with a large book in the middle with a large spiral staircase around it, and balls of light floated around the ceiling to provide light. I walked over to the closest model. It was the tower that I'd made yesterday. As I watched it dissolved like it had when I stopped supplying it with energy, then reappeared after a few moments. I walked away as it looped itself and examined another one. This time it was the flurry of blades that I'd used to finish off Kacchan. Not all of the models were mine, though most of them were, but every example was an example of magic that I was impressed or amazed by. For example, Kacchan and Uraraka's fight, the time I destroyed Todoroki's iceberg, the cavalry battle, the first time I cast Halcyon Wing, those shenanigans with Yang, the Wild, Wild Pussycats' cat spells I'd seen on TV that one time, my fight with Nomu, that one time Kacchan pulled me out of Illusion Barrier to punch me in the face, my first time using the elements with Kacchan, and the first Mana Bolt that started it all were among them. It was nice to see them all memorialized like that, even if it was only in my own head.
After I was done looking at the pretty displays, I checked out a section of one of the bookshelves. It had a label on it, 'Lightning,' with little lightning bolts on it. I pulled a book out at random and opened it to a random page. Most of the text was garbled for some odd reason, but I could make out one passage.
Lightning Bolt
A simple lightning spell. The user gathers electrical energy with lightning mana and shoots it in a burst at the target.
It was almost exactly what my own skill entry for Lightning Bolt said, but without the cost and everything. I frowned and flipped through the pages. I couldn't make out any of the other entries, but to be fair I didn't know too many lightning spells. I really needed to fix that, and with the other elements too. I closed the book and it flew back into its spot with just my intention to return it. I thought about Lightning Aura and Lightning Embodiment, and a dash-like lightning spell I'd made with the hope of creating a flying lightning spell called Arc Step. Those were my other three major lightning spells, so they should probably be somewhere in the lightning bookshelf. Again, my thoughts caused the books to move on their own. Two books pulled themselves out of the bookshelf and floated in front of me.
I plucked one of them out of the air and opened it to a random page. It had Lightning Aura and Lightning Embodiment on it, with one spell in between them. I stared at the passage. It was almost like it was constantly shifting, like some sort of selective but cripplingly bad dyslexia, but I felt like I should know what it was. I almost caught a glimpse of it... I checked one of the other passages that I couldn't read. I didn't have that feeling of recognition, but I still caught a flash of what it might be. Filing that away for later, I turned my attention back to the familiar passage. What could it...
Maybe a lightning version of Kacchan's Fire Ignition? As I thought it, the shifting of the slowed to a stop. The description was still a blur, but I could at least read that I was right.
Lightning Ignition
Maybe it was because I knew what the spell was, but didn't know it? If that was the case... I put the lightning books back and summoned an air book. Yup, Air Aura and Air Embodiment were there with their descriptions, but with a passage for Air Ignition in the middle that I couldn't read the description of. I put them back and looked at some of the other sections of the bookshelves. Aside from the elements, there were several books on healing, enchantment (apparently Elemental Aura and Elemental Ignition, but not Elemental Embodiment, were enchantment-type, plus my buff spells), illusion, offensive, defensive, sensory, movement, mind, summoning, and even more books of magic. There were so many books, most of them almost completely indecipherable. I supposed it represented the sheer scale of what magic could do. Heck, there were even a few bookshelves that I couldn't read the titles of.
After looking through a few books, I decided to check out the book on the pedestal in the middle. For it to be in the middle of a library full of magic, it had to be something impressive, right? I approached the pedestal and... it was just an oversized version of the Skill Grimoir. The pedestal had a counter on it that looked like it was showing me how many Skill Fragments I had at the moment. "Status," I said to check.
The menu didn't open. I frowned. "Menu." Nothing. "Skills." Nothing. "Skill Grimoir?" The giant Skill Grimoir was summoned to my hands, not the one that I could make from my Quirk. I guess it made sense, Quirks being a part of the body, that even if part of my Quirk affected my mind I couldn't use some parts of my Quirk within my own mindscape. Heck, now that I thought about it the only part of my UI that was still was the minimap. "Does that mean my magic won't work?" I asked myself. I created a simple little Magelight and added it to the floating lights. I cast the spell, yes, but even though it felt almost exactly like it did when I did it in real life, it didn't feel like I used any energy in it. "Weird."
I shrugged and looked at my Skill Grimoir. I wondered what it would look like to use it in here. I clearly could, otherwise why would the pedestal have an SF count on it to make up for the fact that I couldn't check my status screen? I flipped through the book for a skill that I wouldn't mind using SF on. There was a decently cheap skill called Shock Sphere that I was fine with. I confirmed the purchase. The words peeled off the page as usual, but when they dissolved into light they didn't go directly to me. Instead, the light split and streaked over to books in the lightning and offensive bookshelves. There were no text boxes, but I knew how to use Shock Sphere when the last of the light entered the books. I summoned both books to see that yes, there was a completed passage for Shock Sphere in them.
"That's... something..." I muttered. I guess that the books were a representation of my skill list? I moved onto the last feature of the room, the staircase. It was made out of floating strips of the same stone-like material as the flooring, but with small bits of red carpet on them. I walked up the staircase to see what was up there. The staircase was long and the tower that it went up was hollow, meaning that I could fly around there with a lot of room if I felt like it. The room at the top of the staircase looked like... maybe it was supposed to be the top of a wizard tower? The large room was circular, with eight large windows that lined up with the cardinal and ordinal directions on my minimap. There was an empty bookshelf, some tables, and a few training dummies and targets by the walls in between the windows. Creepily enough, the space outside the windows was just a blank white void...
I jumped out the window to see what the outside looked like, but realized when I tried to use Float that my copied Quirks weren't working either. I fell for a few meters in surprise before casting Halcyon Wing. The base of the tower was just a part of the circular staircase, instead of the library at the bottom. I tried to fly under the tower to see what would happen, but bonked into a perfectly white floor. There weren't even any shadows, which made sense when you considered the fact that there was also no light. I looked around the white void.
"I wonder what this is supposed to be?" I muttered. "Maybe it's supposed to be something like visualization of magic? I can use my magic in here, plus there were those dummies, so maybe I can use this place like a training ground for my magic. It'd be a bit nicer if it wasn't just this blank white void..." I had an idea. "If this is all in my head..." I closed my eyes and imagined the forest I used to play in as a kid. Soon the image in my head felt almost real and I realized that my eyes had opened at some point. I flew back up and surveyed the new forest. It probably wasn't exactly accurate, even aside from the giant wizard tower that stayed in there when I replaced the void, but it was still a forest in my head.
I flew around the forest for a bit, seeing how it looked. It kind of looked like it was randomly generated with my memories of the forest, because it didn't look like it was exactly the same as the real thing. Certain areas seemed to repeat too. I also checked what would happen if I destroyed a tree or something. It just smashed like a normal tree. Not sure what I expected to happen there. After that, I wondered if I could create NPCs in there. I imagined a ring of bokoblins, like from Breath of the Wild, around me. Before they could attack me I tested out my new skill on them. Shock Sphere, fittingly enough, reminded me a bit of the electric lizalfos from Breath of the Wild. At least, that electrical explosion that they could do. A sphere of lighting magic centered on me enveloped the bokoblins, causing them to convulse. When I ended the spell (which seemed like I could continue it just by supplying more MP), they all fell down and faded out of existence. I hoped it wasn't that deadly in reality...
With the training grounds tested out, I flew back into the tower and jumped down the stairwell. I didn't even feel any impact when I fell on the floor, and the floor didn't look damaged either. I got up and finally walked through the exit hallway of the magic room. I suddenly found myself back at the foyer of the 'museum,' standing exactly where I had been when I first entered my mindscape like I'd teleported there.
"That was interesting. Let's see another room." I walked up to a hallway, which had a sign that said 'Memory Lane.' This time, the room was just a long hallway with paintings hung all along both sides. On the left side I saw memories that were, generally speaking, negative. Fear, anger, sadness, every picture evoked emotions like that in me. Meanwhile every memory on the right was positive. When I looked at the left side it felt like it was longer than the right side, but when I looked at the right side it felt like it was longer than the left. Only when I didn't focus on either side and just stared down the middle did I see that the two sides were equal.
Does that count as a metaphor? I feel like that's a metaphor.
I kept my hand on the wall of happy memories as I walked down the hallway. My hope was that it'd serve as a reminder not to linger on the bad memories. As I walked down the hallway reminiscing, I noticed that some of the memories on the happy side were also on the negative side, just in a different light. I got to the end of the hallway having only cried a few times. Like the last room, exiting it brought me back to the beginning.
I looked at the hallways around the foyer, wondering what else could be in them. "One more," I promised myself, and went through a hallway labeled 'Heroes.' The large room was filled with statues and pictures of various pro heroes. The ones I admired more had more prominent statues, with All Might's being the centerpiece of the room. I noticed with pride that while there was a statue for Endeavor, it was destroyed. Only the legs were intact, with the rest of him just being a pile of rubble with demeaning graffiti on it.
However, I quickly noticed that there was something completely out of place near the All Might statue. A party of seven, who by the way I had never seen any of before, sat at a cheap folding table in cheap folding chairs. And because this was in my mindscape I apparently couldn't see their titles. There was a man with long white hair, a woman with a short, spiky ponytail that kinda reminded me of a pineapple, a blonde man with red eyes, a white-haired man with a large scar over his left eye, a bald man wearing an opened leather jacket with no shirt under it and a pair of goggles on his forehead, a black-haired man in a coat with a collar so high it covered his mouth, and a motherly-looking woman with a beauty mark under her mouth. It looked like they were about to play some sort of card game.
The man with long white hair, who looked like he was the dealer, shouted "Five-card Mao is not in session!" and threw a card at the man in the coat, who was the only one holding his cards. The man picked the card up and added it to his hand, which was currently about twice the size of the others'. The long-haired man said "Five-card Mao is not in session!" again, and threw another card at the other man. They repeated this several more times, the white-haired man's shouting getting more exasperated each time. Soon the man in the coat was holding all the cards.
"I win," he said smugly.
"That's not how Five-card Mao works!" the white-haired man protested.
"How does it work, then?" The man looked through his numerous cards.
The white-haired man slammed his hands on the table, rattling his five cards. "I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO TELL YOU!"
"Then how are we to play the game?" the man asked smugly as he set most of the deck down.
The white-haired man sighed. "You figure it out. That's supposed to be part of the fun..."
"Um..." I said, and all seven of them turned to stare at me in unison. "What are you people doing in my head?" I asked.
"The kid's here," the bald man said. "How is the kid here?"
The motherly-looking woman got up. "I suppose some introductions are in order. Sorry for alarming you, Midoriya. We're... the past users of One For All, the Quirk you have now. My name is Shimura Nana."
"Oh," I said. "So I guess One For All takes some kind of copy of the user's mind?"
The bald man shrugged. "Probably something like that. Name's Daigoro Banjo. Sup."
The man in the jacket nodded. "Hikiishi Jiroku."
"Hello, Midoriya," the scarred man said. "My name is Honenuki Shikotsu."
The blonde man waved at me. "Hello," he said with a small Russian accent. "I am Sokolov Kyousan."
The woman with the ponytail smiled at me. "Hello, Midoriya. My name is Kaizen Futaba. It's nice to meet you."
Finally, the white-haired man got up and shook my hand with an apologetic grin. "And I'm the reason you're in this whole mess, sorry. Shigaraki Ichigo." I gasped. Come to think of it, he looked a bit like that hand guy, Shigaraki Tomura, if he wasn't so... crusty. He winced. "Yeah, like that hand kid you fought. I think he might be my nephew, but I kinda don't like the idea of my brother procreating. He wasn't a very good brother and I doubt he'd make a great father either. You can call me Ichigo, by the way. I understand if you wouldn't want to call me Shigaraki."
"Um... So if you're all here then where's All Might?" I asked.
"Oh, he's in the closet," Shimura said.
"I knew it!" I said.
"Oh no, I meant that closet," she said, pointing to a literal broom closet in one corner of the room. Why was that even there? "Toshinori's openly bi, or at least he was in school."
"Oh, so did you know him when he was in school?" I asked. "Or I guess you would know anyway if you were in his head too..."
She nodded. "I did end up in his head eventually, but I was his teacher at Yuuei."
"Wait, why is he in the broom closet? I asked.
"See, the thing about that is..." Daigoro said. "Maybe it's best if you see for yourself."
I shrugged and walked over to the closet door. I could see something under the crack, but it didn't look like a pair of human feet... I opened the door, revealing a hazy yellow silhouette that was roughly All Might-shaped, but didn't look like an actual person. He didn't react to me opening the door. "Oh," I said.
"Yeah, he kinda creeped us out after a while, so we just stuck him in the closet," Ichigo said.
I waved my hand in front of his face. He didn't react at all... "Is he... conscious?"
"We don't think so, or at least we hope not," Honenuki said.
"We don't remember our times as that strange half-shadow, but at the same time most of ours were short," Hikiishi informed me. "At the very least, he doesn't react to anything and won't until the real Toshinori dies."
"I see," I said. That was kind of disturbing... "So are your real souls in here? Is that how it works?"
Sokolov shrugged. "It's best if you don't think think about it, existentially."
"Okay," I said, closing the door. "Would it be possible to get another chair for me?" I asked. "Actually how did you get those chairs?" I turned around to see that there was an extra chair right next to Ichigo. "Right, mindscape." Ichigo patted the empty chair.
I sat down as Ichigo shuffled his cards really fancily. I didn't even know you could do some of those those things to shuffle a deck of cards.
Or it was just mindscape logic...
"So do you wanna play too, Midoriya?" Ichigo asked me.
I nodded. "Yeah, thanks." When he dealt my cards I almost picked them up, but remembered the whole thing with Hikiishi and stopped myself.
"Five-card Mao is now in session!" Ichigo said as he flipped the top card of the deck over, the two of hearts. "I figured we'd do this in the order of what bearer we were, and we could say a bit about ourselves to Midoriya. I'll start." He placed the eight of hearts down on top of the first card. "I was the first bearer. Our enemy, All For One, is.. was my brother. He kinda snapped when our father killed our mother, which to be fair was pretty dang traumatic, but that doesn't really make anything he did cool. We had a few arguments, he locked me in a room for months, then he tried to control me by giving me a powerful Quirk. Still don't get what his plan was there, even with the chance of brain damage. Plus I mean even then we already knew that Quirks could be genetic, so he should've figured I could've been even a little bit more compatible with his Quirk than some random schmuck, so-"
"You're rambling again, Ichigo," Kaizen interrupted him.
"Right. Thanks, Futaba-chan," he said. I guess they knew each other. "So yeah, I used the Quirk he gave me to escape him and join what may have been a precursor to those pro hero organization things, though obviously without the overt government support. Speaking of, I think that's when you come in, Futaba-chan."
Kaizen nodded. She put down the eight of diamonds before speaking. "I was Ichigo's sidekick. He took me under his wing after he couldn't dissuade me from being a hero and showed me ways to use my Quirk that I would have never thought of. When he was on his deathbed I promised to continue the fight against his brother and was the first to have One For All passed to me. If I may, Midoriya, I would like to advise you to not underestimate the power of my Quirk, Mending."
Sokolov nodded. "My turn." He put down the three of spades.
Ichigo picked up the card, took a card off the top of the deck, and tossed them both to Sokolov. "Bad move. Try again."
Sokolov grunted. "What about this, then?" He put down the seven of diamonds. "My mom lost her Quirk to that bastard Hisa-"
Hikiishi threw a card at him. "Watch your language, there's a kid present."
Before Sokolov could pick up the card Ichigo swiped it up and threw it and another card at Hikiishi. "That's not a rule," he said.
Hikiishi picked the cards up, took another one from the deck, and threw all three at Ichigo. "You said can make new rules if you win."
Ichigo glared at him. "I'll give you that one, but only because I agree with the rule." He turned to Sokolov. "Continue."
Sokolov nodded. "My mom lost her Quirk, so I decided to melt the brain of the person responsible. I suppose if we're saying what our Quirks are, I should say mine's Fear. Luckily Kaizen got to me before I could get to him, and she made me her successor."
Honenuki threw his card down next. Seven of spades. "Believe it or not, but I used to be one of All For One's allies. Was born into it, actually. In fact, the Quirk you got from me, Skeletal, was a combination of my birth Quirk, Spike Growth, and a Quirk called Bone Armor. One day, though, I made the... well, not mistake, but I questioned him." He tapped his scar. "How I got this. Kyousan saved my as- life and I didn't really have anywhere else to go, so he basically adopted me."
Banjo slammed down the jack of spades. He shrugged. "Honestly I became a hero because I was bored and liked using Blackwhip. Don't know what Honenuki saw in me, but to be fair he was dying and the other guy was an even bigger jerk. Not really much to say."
Hikiishi looked at his cards for a bit. "I was always good at using my Quirk, Magnetize. I was heavily encouraged to become a hero, so I went with it." He put down the jack of diamonds. "I suppose Banjo saw promise in me when we worked together, because he gave me One For All."
Shimura played the queen of diamonds. "I also became a pro hero because of my Quirk, Float. Well, I really did want to help people too, but having a Quirk that let me fly played a factor in my becoming a hero too. I only ever met Hikiishi a few times before I... well, when he gave me One For all he was about to die. I became a teacher after that, hoping that maybe my successor would be spared the traumatic circumstances of my getting One For All." She laughed wryly. "I'm honestly not too sure I was able to do that for Toshinori..."
"For what it's worth, I'm sorry," Hikiishi muttered.
"I don't blame you," Shimura assured him. "Now it's your turn Midoriya."
"Okay," I said. I looked at my cards. If I understood the rules right, the only card I had that would work was the queen of hearts, so I placed it on Shimura's card. "My name is Midoriya Izuku, as you know. I think the Quirk I was born with was actually Singularity, but it's really weird and didn't even show any sign of being there until a few months ago, when I got The Gamer. I know I'm not very experienced, but I hope to make you all proud."
Banjo grinned at me. "You're doin' great already, kid!" he shouted.
"Yes, I'm proud to call you my successor," Ichigo added with a grin.
The rest of the former bearers echoed the sentiment. I laughed and rubbed at my suddenly wet eyes. "Thank you."
xoxoxo
A/N: Sorry about dumping a bunch of names on you at once, bit that was kinda the only way I though of for how this could go down...
Also sorry for the kinda long wait. I had writers' block for a bit with the OFA scene and then had an awesome idea for the card game that unfortunately involved reading a lot about the minor tarot arcana (I know it was a minor detail, but I thought it was really cool and I just kinda go wild for tarot motifs okay). By the way if anyone's looking things up, remember that most playing cards are the same rightside-up as upside-down so it could be either upright or reversed ;3. Plus I had a lot more irons in the fire that I had to tend to.
Elemental list: Midoriya: Halitus, Dune, Rayne, Blaise, Juniper, Mifuyu, Raimon, Iggy, Sonia, and Claude Bakugou: Pyra and Leaf Tokoyami: Corvo Uraraka: Nebula and Ion Hagakure: Lucy Tsu: Bubbles Aizawa: Charlie and Cassiopeia All Might: Seth O'Scope

Weekly Update: Print Proofing & ARIA Development
Read the Update on Kickstarter: CLICK HERE
Hey, everyone! It's me, Marco! This update is a bit shorter and less intense than previous ones, but I can assure you that it's just as exciting!
Bonus Costume Punches
People asked for ARIA a lot in the last update and so we're here to talk about her! ARIA was one of the stronger characters in Devastation thanks to her large Priority values and tricky effects. However, three of these stand above the rest: Dimensional, Ionic, and her Turret Droid.
Dimensional had always been a powerful option, since it could go really fast and consistently stun opponents at the right range. New Dimensional is a bit tuned-down. It can no longer stun opponents (no matter what). In exchange, it received some repositioning effects.
Ionic, on the other hand, was more of a sanity check. Ionic's ability to replace the opponent's Priority lends itself to a lot of odd rules questions. It was deemed that this kind of effect was not necessarily healthy for the game. Instead, Ionic retains its identity as a utility style, giving Aria bonus Power if she is on her Turret, while also repositioning the opponent with her Magnetron.
Finally, her most "problematic" ability was to constantly hurt the opponent with her Turret Droid. Given that this was almost always "free", ARIA could easily bleed her opponents out with little to no contest. Now, her Turret Droid only causes Chip if ARIA hits her opponent. This encourages the ARIA player to actually fight her opponent to get any damage done.
Argent Interview Series: Sophica Sentavra

Level With Us Livecast
You've met Brad and Marco, but it's time to meet everyone else! Meet more of the Level 99 Games team and ask them questions! Stream starts at 4:30 PM MST! Set that reminder! Don't miss it!
What's Happening?
Proofing's done! We've sent all our files to the printers. This starts the next step in production: print proofing. So, after we've proofread all our files, we need to make sure the printers' are printing the cards correctly. This process involves making sure that the cuts, materials, and colors are correct; among other things. We're just waiting on the printers to get back to us. We'll keep up updated!
Final Words
Thanks so much for reading the update! I hope you enjoyed that dive into ARIA's new kit. Hopefully you ARIA fans are happy with the changes.
See you on the next update. Thank you, World of Indines. Thank you and good night!

Orto Finnea! The main location for my first ever DnD campaign! Idk how to use this site but I don’t got nowhere else to talk about it to not spoil it for my players! So here’s some of the key lore I sent them to get the ball rolling I guess! These are the five major nations that will be players in our campaign. The eastern side of the mountains will be much more relevant.
Orange: Firstly and most importantly is Elodie, This is a heart of industrial progress as we begin to leave the medieval ages. Through technomancy and a recent political revolution the nation has reshaped itself to be a hearth of steam boilers and smoggy streets. Inventors far and wide often, even if only once, make a pilgrimage to the Elodie captials in order to bask in the glory of other likeminded geniuses.
Red: The nation of Adonis, known for it's high arching polished marble buildings. The opulent jewel of Orto Finnea. It's highly aristocratic with multiple clusters of highly civilized regions, running off the backs of a hardworking countryside. The rich purchase the best inventions from Elodie and utilize them on their farmlands to increase the efficiency of cotton production.
Yellow: Sardona is a much more humble villa. Many from Adonis eventually move out to the Sardonian countryside in their old age to retire. They haven't quite moved past their old pastoral days, with humble fishing businesses, small cattle farms, and a deeply ingrained mafia with a shadow hand that moved over the entire countryside and even seeps into it's neighbors. The Domico family is incredibly powerful in this region, with constant strife against the dwindling power of local law enforcement.
Deep blue: Leon is run by 3 proud noble families, and is the last vestige of the "old world" Each family owning massive stone strongholds and keeping a watchful eye over the peasants of their territories as they keep the monarchy alive. Many other nations see them as backwards, but a Leonite native would often speak proudly of their heritage and ancestry as the three families keep the peace.
Deep green: Cordova meanwhile is the artisan counterpoint to Leon. Their nation is fully shaking themselves out of the monarchy and establishing a constitution for themselves. In this era of enlightenment that has swept the world over they've focused much on the artisan crafts. paintings, tapestries, and poetry. Their nation is well known for all these things.
Purple: The Anwuana marshes are an incredibly long stretch of low lying floodlands. The entire shoreline and much of the inland regions are nearly sea level, and so any unusually high tide will sweep the area and flood them. This has lead to boggy marshes overtaking the region. They have no full government, and instead are often a refuge for those banished from the shatter states, and those simply looking for a simple self sustaining life. So long as you can deal with and avoid the monsters in the very least.
Pink: Gen'oa was once part of the shatter states, until during one of the shatterings they had broken off and never involved themselves in the next restoration. Their nation stands on it's own now, looking over those in the Anwuana marshes and those who live in the mountains. Both groups fall under their protection and government in most cases, though their power isn't absolute, and many opt out of it (and are not practically reachable by the nation). They are an incredibly hilly terrain full of deep green steppe communities, using the water springs at the tops of these hills to nourish inland farms.
Grey: Harlberg is most well known for, well, Mackerels. That is their primary export after all. And when most of your nation is coastline it's no surprise that you'd be drawn to fishing as your primary food source. They're a simple bunch most often. And are content to stick to their coastal ships, and large hauls of lovely lovely food.
Beige: The shatter states, a large widespread dynasty of varied kingdoms with a single proud central ruler. Or at least it should be. They often find themselves breaking into multiple small nations that war with one another whenever the prior most emperor dies and the line of succession is broken in some minor way.
TADA! that’s the baseline of lore >:D I hope it goes well and my players have fun.

Chapter 1. It all started with a sandwich.
The M.Y.S.T.E.R.Y. Machine MK IV was a marvel of modern technomancy -- at least, in the first weeks of Gnomeregan’s official connection with the Alliance. Now, however, it was surely in need of update, and maintenance...
This was the thought on Velma Dinkelcog’s mind as she smashed away at a series of complicated gears and pistons with a giant titansteel wrench. The M.Y.S.T.E.R.Y. Machine had served as the Gang’s living quarters and their primary mode of transportation around the Dark -- searching for prominent mysteries and supernatural activities to investigate.
Here they were, in the middle of Nothing, the azure smoke from Shag’gi’s pipe engulfing most of the relevant space -- moments before, there’d be an explosion of sorts, and Velma was keen on fixing the problem. By any means necessary.
She aimed a particularly difficult blow with her wrench at a particularly difficult gear in the mess of machinery before her -- there was a 1 in 2,322,175 chance that this would go horribly wrong, an easily calculable --
Boom!
Another explosion shook not only the vessel, but the fabric of space itself -- or so Velma’s carefully calculating ears reckoned. She blinked; either her previous probability was mistaken, or they were just unlucky -- no matter, there was only an infinitesimal 1 in 33,987,116 chance that there would be another --
Ker-plow!
A third explosion shook reality ever more violently. Velma lost control quite as much as the vessel had, momentarily throwing her arms up in surprise. She turned to assess the damage, her gaze falling upon a most curious sight.
The rest of the gang were running through the corridor of the M.Y.S.T.E.R.Y. Machine -- from the bathroom into the bedrooms; from the bedrooms into the storage closet; from the storage closet to the helm -- and back again. It all made for a very comical scene of legs moving in blurs and cartoonishly stretched features passing each other in panic. The gnome sighed.
This could only mean one thing -- the samophlange was damaged. She knew the outcome -- the failsafe she’d designed would divert them to the vessel’s origin given this level of emergency -- but how long had it been since the gang had last seen Azeroth?
It didn’t matter -- with a clang and a clatter the vessel slipped out of all time and space and landed squarely in the middle of Stormwind’s Dwarven District. In the crater that was created a journeyman Blacksmith had just finished smelting Tin on a forge -- and all that was left of his endeavors was a pile of grey dust. Velma sighed again as she and the gang exited the machine; their eyes squinting in the bright afternoon light, sleeves turned up against the infamous gusts of wind that carried from the eastern mountain.
As they so often did, Velma and the gang looked to Freddius Jones -- their “brave and fearless” leader -- for direction as to their next course of action. And Freddius was, apparently, anxiously awaiting the attention.
“Well, gang! It looks like we’re in Stormwind!” he said, the true leader of obvious statements in this (and many other) instances, though only Velma noticed. She shook her head accordingly, hand moving in that so-familiar way to cover her face with a palm.
“Zoinks! W-What will we do, gang? We spent all our leftover g-gold on sandwiches at that Ethereal t-trading hub!” Shag’gi chimed in, shuddering slightly as he so often did, which caused his voice to stutter at random.
Daphney was busy regarding Freddius, as if his obvious remark had been the highlight of their troubles. But it was the Brew-Pup who weathered the most interesting response.
Stepping out of the vessel, Scoobeth Von Doo shook himself as only a dog could, and in doing so a vibrant field of magical energy reverberated off of him. The gang calmed. But Scoobeth himself looked serious; troubled. He regarded the rest and let out something like a dogged grunt -- he stared momentarily at Freddius, and moments later, the handsome human piped up.
“We’ll just have to make enough gold to get things running again -- by selling Scoobeth Brew and, most of all, solving mysteries!”
The plan was sound, or so it seemed given the gang’s response. They fell in line, awaiting Freddius’ command. He led them toward the Cathedral district in something of a march, the wreckage of the M.Y.S.T.E.R.Y. Machine left to smolder in their wake -- much to the dismay of the local authority.
Hours later, when assessing the damages to the M.Y.S.T.E.R.Y. Machine’s engines and overall travel capacity, Velma discovered an array of sandwich ingredients that had found their way into the primary motor of the samophlange that made the entire vessel function. She scowled, “Jynxies!”
It all started with a sandwich.

WIP Killteam Embark - Projironwithin
Kallipides marched in his battle regiment, his armour was oiled and properly handled by the company’s Martian priests in their fanatical prayers and adjustments for the coming battle in appeasement to his equipment’s battle spirits and their machine god. As amusing as the concept was, he was not one to offend the enigmatic masters of their equipment.
The liaison of their strange technomancy was heralded by the appearance of the Master of the Forge himself, spoke upon the coming battle. A powerful being, in presence as much as stature in his artificer terminator armour. It was hard to tell if he was even a living thing anymore with those serpentine mechadentrites and servo-arms hissing and clicking their claws at every touch and pick. A grinding electronic voice listing the needed ammunitions and requisitions for the company’s great glory in the next days. The Second Company was heading for the region’s greenskin territories, to grind everything xenos under trek and firepower only the Iron Warriors can and will unleash.
Merciless.
Thoroughly.
With his new reassignment, Kallipides has been given the honoured permission to prepare himself for an elite position. An Astartes killteam with a singular aim – to decapitate the leadership. These xenos, barbaric as they are, had a simplistic hierarchy. The bigger and stronger was leader. And their leader was even worse. And these warbosses - are they have been classified by the Warsmith’s reconnaissance – are led by one even moreso. This region was claimed by one of the lesser bosses, he has seen it.
A brutish, ugly (which was saying something of grave note) and cybernetic thing that have killed a good number of astartes personally with a high-pressurized utility crane’s claw that oversized its mangled form. Constantly steaming from burning mouth like a furnace burning from its very being. It had to die, the very sight of it was an offence to the young warrior. He can only imagine how his seniors felt on the monster on a tactical and strategic level.
The thoughts almost blinded him in his direction until he halted in stiff reactive attention, eyes glanced under the glaring visors of his helmet. He tracked and found IFF of his temporary battle-brothers of this mission. They were standing in a semi-circle, ready upon the word and waiting on the new addition to this selected force.

Machine Spirit
I’ve been running the Iron Gods adventure path for Pathfinder for nearly a year now and I’ve been messing with homebrewing some stuff to give players better options. I wanted to share the most extensive thing I homebrewed, a custom Spirit for the shaman class tailored to the setting. Unfortunately the character I made it for didn’t make it out of book 2 but I figured it’s a pretty cool option so if anyone wants to use it, feel free to borrow it.
As you’ll see it borrows a lot of features from other classes. No one in the party was playing those options but everyone, at one time or another seemed to have a need for them, so I figured I’d throw something together. The core concept of the Machine Spirit is to create a buff character that increases the survivability of the party and helps them stay on their feet longer without spending a lot of time healing.
Machine Spirit
A shaman who selects the machine spirit takes on a slight metallic sheen. Her eyes emit a faint glow and her voice distorts in an uncanny, mechanical way.
Spirit Magic Spells:
Technomancy (1st), Recharge (2nd), Discharge (3rd), Greater Make Whole(4th), Rapid Repair (5th) Discharge, Greater (6th), Control Construct (7th), Memory of Function (8th), Ride the Lightning (9th)
Spirit Animal
The shaman’s spirit animal appears to be a cybernetically enhanced version of its kind. It gains a +2 enhancement bonus to either its Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution, chosen at first level. Once this choice is made, it cannot be changed.
Hexes
Neural Interface (Su) The shaman forms mental connection with a robot within 30 feet, granting it the ability to process thoughts and emotions as a humanoid would. For a number of rounds equal to the shaman’s wisdom modifier, the robot loses its immunity to mind-affecting effects. A successful Will save negates. This can be extended through the Chant hex.
Short Circuit (Ex) The shaman causes a technological item that uses charges within 30 feet to lose 1d4 charges per 4 shaman levels (max 5d4). If the item is timeworn, it has a 75% of glitching on its next use. If used on a robot, this effect deals 1d6 points of electricity damage per 2 shaman levels (maximum 5d6 at 10th level). A successful reflex save halves the damage to robots or negates charges lost. The shaman can use this ability a number of times per day equal to her charisma modifier. Nanite Surge (Ex) As an standard action, the shaman can touch a creature to cause nanites to surge through their body, granting them a bonus equal to 3 + her shaman level on any one d20 roll; this ability must be activated before the roll is made. If they do not use this surge within one minute, it expires. Once a creature has been targeted by the nanite surge hex, it cannot benefit from it again for 24 hours. If the creature already possesses the nanite surge ability from another source (such as from being an android), they can still use that nanite surge. The shaman can use this ability on herself as an immediate action.
Controlled Conditions (ex) The shaman reduces the glitch chance of a timeworn technological item she uses by 10%. At 5th level, and every 5 levels thereafter, the glitch chance is reduced by another 10% to a minimum of 0% at 20th level.
Artificial Evolution (Ex) The shaman gains Craft Cybernetics as a bonus feat. She does not need the technologist feat but must still meet the skill requirements for the feat.
Spirit Ability
Cybernetic Aspect (Su) As a swift action, the shaman gains the benefits of a cybernetic enhancement. She may use this ability for a number of minutes per day equal to her shaman level. They need not be consecutive but they must be used in 1 minute increments. She may only have one such enhancement active at any given time. These enhancements do not count toward her total number of implantations.
Cyberfiber muscles: The shaman gains a +2 enhancement bonus to Strength. This bonus increases to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th. Wirejack Tendons: The shaman gains a +2 enhancement bonus to Dexterity. This bonus increases to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th. Thoracic Nanite Chamber: The shaman gains a +2 enhancement bonus to Constitution. This bonus increases to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th. Dermal plating: The shaman gains +1 enhancement bonus to natural armor. A creature without natural armor has an effective natural armor bonus of +0. This enhancement bonus increases to +3 at 8th level and +5 at 15th.
Greater Spirit Ability
Force Field (Ex) As a standard action, the shaman may touch a willing creature to surround it with a barrier of invisible, intangible force. The creature gains 10 temporary hit points. These temporary hit points have Fast Healing 2, but if they are ever reduced to 0, the force field fails and the shaman cannot use this ability on that creature again for the next 24 hours. The shaman can only maintain this barrier on a number of creatures equal to her Charisma modifier at any given time. The shaman can end one active Force Field effect as an immediate action when she applies a force field to a creature in excess of her charisma modifier.
The force field blocks solids and liquids, but not gases or light (including laser beams). All damage dealt to the creature is subtracted from the temporary hit points it grants first (lasers and rays bypass this). As long as the force field is active, the creature is immune to critical hits (but not precision-based damage, such as sneak attacks). The user of a force field can still breathe, but she cannot eat or drink. This effect is not magical force and does not grant any special immunity to magical force attacks, such as magic missile. At 8th level and every 4th level thereafter, the amount of temporary hit points granted by this ability increases by 10 and the fast healing by 1, to a maximum of 40 temporary hit points and fast healing 4 at 16th level. The shaman can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 1+her charisma modifier.
True Spirit Ability
Unified Energy (ex) The shaman can draw power from a technological device in her possession to cast a spell she knows (for spirit magic) or a spell she currently has prepared (for prepared spells) without expending a spell slot or prepared spell. She consumes 2 charges from the device for each spell level of the spell being cast. In the process of casting the spell, she can apply any of her metamagic feats, using a number of charges appropriate to the increase in spell level, but she cannot exceed the highest effective level of spell she is able to cast. She can use this ability multiple times per day, but never in excess of a number of charges equal to her shaman level.
Manifestation
At 20th level the shaman becomes an ideal fusion of organic lifeform and machine. She becomes immune to sleep effects, diseases, and poisons. She no longer needs to breath, eat or sleep (though she must still rest to prepare spells). She can be targeted by spells (such as make whole or rapid repair) as if she were a construct. She has a reservoir of 5 temporary hit points for every piece of implanted cybertech in her body. These hit points act as her Force field ability except they do not possess fast healing but regenerate at a rate of 10 points per hour even if they are reduced to 0.
EDIT. 1.1 removed 1d4 round cooldown on Short Circuit hex

Subway is making the biggest menu change in its history

Subway is making the biggest menu change in its history
Next week, Subway restaurants across the country will unveil an updated menu designed to improve items across the board. The chain says the move is the biggest menu change in its history.
The revamp includes new recipes for the chain’s Italian and multigrain breads, as well as new sandwich toppings.
The chain is also tweaking items already on the menu. Subway’s bacon, for example, will now be hickory-smoked, and its turkey and ham sliced more thinly. It’s also bringing back past items like rotisserie-style chicken and roast beef. To encourage customers to try the new ingredients, thousands of restaurants plan to give away up to one million free sandwiches between 10 AM and 12 PM on July 13. The chain is also updating the look of its app and partnering with DoorDash to let customers order delivery directly from the Subway app.
Some shoppers once considered Subway to be an affordable, relatively healthy option — they could load their sandwiches with their preferred mix of veggies and protein without breaking the bank. But in recent years, competition in the fast casual space has helped edge Subway out.
“We want to make a loud enough bang … to draw those people back to give us another look,” Subway CEO John Chidsey told CNN Business.
With the new menu, Subway is courting those customers and hoping to please its franchise operators.
Bringing customers back
According to the foodservice research and consultant firm Technomic, sales at Subway’s US locations have been falling in recent years. System-wide sales at Subway’s US locations were $12.3 billion in 2013, which was its best year of the past 15, and about $8.3 billion in 2020, according to Technomic’s analysis.
In response to a request for comment on those numbers, Trevor Haynes, Subway’s president for North America, said in an emailed statement that “Subway is a privately held company and does not publicly disclose sales figures.” He added that “for the first half of 2021, on average sales are doing well compared to 2019, pre-pandemic levels.”
When Subway first rose to prominence, it “owned” customization, said Robert Byrne, director of consumer and industry insights at Technomic. But the rise of fast casual made customization the norm. Now, customers can build their own burritos, salads, sandwiches or bowls, making competition in the space fierce. As more restaurants offer custom options, “we want to continue to … dominate that space,” said Chidsey.
Subway’s research showed that customers wanted more innovation, Chidsey noted.
With that in mind, the company decided to “focus on raising the quality of the core ingredients, since with those core ingredients you can make almost an infinite number of sandwich combinations,” Chidsey said.
It’s not just about customization. “Perceptions of health and what is healthy [have] evolved,” said Byrne. “From an ingredient standpoint, I know consumers would love to hear a little bit more about the sourcing.”
Recently, questions have been raised about Subway’s tuna — a lawsuit alleged that Subway’s tuna sandwich is not actually made with the fish. The suit has since been amended to allege that the tuna Subway uses is not made with 100% tuna and does not always use skipjack or yellowfin tuna. Subway called the original lawsuit “meritless,” and said that “the new claims are untrue,” adding that “the lawsuit constitutes a reckless and improper attack on Subway’s brand.”
Subway is still proudly serving the product, saying that “the 100% wild-caught tuna remains a fan favorite among sub lovers.”
Franchisee tension
The refresh also has the possible benefit of pleasing franchise operators, some of whom have been clamoring for changes.
One metric of the update’s success is a “re-energized franchisee community,” said Chidsey. “It’s important for us internally.” Franchisees have also been calling for more menu innovation, he said.
Some Subway franchise operators have complained publicly about the company’s treatment of them. In April, an anonymous group of “concerned franchisees” wrote an open letter to Elisabeth DeLuca, a co-owner of the chain. The Subway dream “has turned into a nightmare,” they said, writing that Subway hurt their business by franchising new locations nearby or shutting down stores for minor infractions, among other things. In a separate letter, they complained of high franchise fees. Subway’s franchise fees are “competitive,” said Trevor Haynes, Subway’s president for North America, in an emailed statement.
“There are still a few people who are disgruntled about the past,” Chidsey said, in reference to the franchisee’s complaints. “But I would think that if you talk to the vast majority of our franchisees, they’d say we’ve had a hell of a six-month run,” he said, suggesting that the higher sales are encouraging to franchise operators. “Things are improving rather dramatically.” He added that the chain is focused on growing sales rather than the number of Subway restaurants in the United States.
Aligning franchise operators with the corporate team is essential for the company to turn around, noted Technomic’s Byrne. “I don’t think they can do anything until those two groups get on the same page.”

New Post has been published on https://freenews.today/2021/03/06/more-restaurant-jobs-and-the-stimulus-package-foreshadow-the-industrys-coming-recovery/
More restaurant jobs and the stimulus package foreshadow the industry's coming recovery

Restaurants and bars gained 286,000 workers in February following several months of losing jobs, the latest sign that the industry’s recovery is on the horizon after a long, cold winter.
Freezing temperatures, coupled with a resurgence of new Covid-19 cases, hurt eateries at the end of 2020 and into the new year.
“So far in 2021, I would say that it looks worse than what it looked like in October, November,” said Rabobank senior analyst Amit Sharma.
But after harsh winter storms, warmer temperatures are starting to hit some parts of the country. Vaccine distribution, which started off sluggish, has rapidly picked up steam in the last month. More than 54 million Americans — about 16% of the total population — have received at least one dose as of Thursday morning, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The approval of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is being distributed with help from Merck, will further accelerate those numbers.
“If you look at our forecast going forward, a big piece of how we look at the rest of 2021 and even into 2022, is the speed with which that vaccine is rolled out,” said Technomic Senior Principal David Henkes.
In response to accelerating vaccine distribution, states have begun relaxing or even preparing to eliminate capacity limits in restaurants and other venues, although Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials have recommended slowing down the rollback of restrictions. Since the start of March, at least 35 states have eased restrictions in some way. Connecticut, for example, is planning on allowing restaurants to operate at full capacity by the end of March.
But a recent industry poll showed palpable signs of pain. The National Restaurant Association surveyed 3,000 restaurant operators between Feb. 2 and 10. Respondents were pessimistic about the industry’s recovery efforts. About a third said it would take seven to 12 months for business conditions to return to normal at their restaurant, and 29% said it would take at least a year.
Just weeks later, the mood feels a bit lighter, in part because of the progress on approving the latest stimulus package. If passed, the bill would put $1,400 in the bank accounts of many consumers, who may choose to spend at least some of that money eating out while they still feel uncomfortable traveling. Democrats are working to approve the plan by March 14.
“What we’ve seen when those have been issued is that restaurants have been a beneficiary,” Henkes said. “There’s a pent-up demand from consumers.”
Moreover, the stimulus bill includes a program to give restaurants grants of up to $10 million if they lost money last year. Those funds could help independent eateries pay off bills, rehire employees and stay afloat, just in time for spring’s warmer temperatures. Fourteen percent of the NRA survey respondents said that they would probably or definitely close their doors within the next three months if they didn’t receive any federal aid.
Even with another stimulus package, Sharma isn’t expecting the restaurant industry to snap back immediately once everyone has access to the Covid-19 vaccine, based on Australia’s recovery.
“After their cases went to single digits in July, August, it’s taken them another six months for their total food service sales to get closer to pre-pandemic levels,” he said. “Cases — as vaccines pick up — will go down, and there’s pent-up demand and enthusiasm, but it takes some time for consumers to get back to their pre-pandemic habits.”
Technomic’s latest forecast predicts that restaurants and bars’ compound annual growth rate will shrink just 3.6% between 2019 and 2021.
Based on calls with restaurant operators, Sharma is expecting that the second quarter of this year will show the highest year-over-year growth. Not only was it the hardest hit quarter last year due to lockdowns, but stimulus checks and vaccine distribution should lift sales.
Henkes said that he is looking to the Fourth of July as the inflection point marking when the restaurant industry’s recovery will really start to accelerate.
For now, trends are still looking lopsided. Fast-food restaurants bounced back more quickly than full-service restaurants, thanks to their lower prices and takeout expertise. Full-service restaurants have also been battered by indoor dining restrictions and fewer outdoor dining customers during the winter. Additionally, chains have outperformed independent eateries and grabbed market share as mom-and-pops close their doors permanently.
By the time most U.S. consumers are ready to resume their pre-pandemic routines, the landscape of the U.S. restaurant industry could look very different.
