Anyway idk if anyone else has said it but the reason the Umbrellas had such a different outcome compared to the Sparrows is because Reggie gave up on them the minute he realised he couldn’t control Viktor. He needed seven to complete his plan. The Umbrella Academy was already a failure before it had even really begun.

i think the fell xenologue does a great job at characterizing some of the royals beyond the vanilla game mostly because every single royal has like one or two core principles that really make them who they are and so getting rid of those one or two things completely converts them into a completely different person. like alcryst losing his self doubt, celine loses her empathy, hortensia loses her resilience, etc etc. but i think my favorite version of this has to be fogado, who has in my opinion the most drastic change. i think all of the other royals have very outward presenting traits that you can easily catch onto and see theyve lost. but fogado is just a little different, because what fell fogado lacks isnt really a trait; he loses his sense of love. (rest under the cut bc it turned into an essay. my bad also fell xenologue spoilers obvs)
“our” fogado (?? idk how to differentiate between them. work with me here) is not an easy person to read in universe. he makes it very clear in chapter 13 that he’s pretty good at deception and is very willing to make use of that skill. his supports with timerra and pandreo also tell us he’s gotten used to keeping up a specially crafted persona meant to kind of suppress his feelings (that timerra and pandreo can see through but. like 1. theyre smart 2. sister and bff ok moving on). but he doesn’t do it out of malice or because he just likes being tricky, he lies because he loves. everything in fogado’s life is shaped by what he loves: his country, his friends, and his sister. every single motivation he has is fueled by this: the constant partying, how often he leaves the castle, all his acting. its even in his goddamn class name (cupido) and birthday (feb 14) if you needed the game to spell it out for you
so thats why when we get to the fell xenologue, the fogado we meet is changed in that one specific way: his love is gone. we know this because of a few things, the first of which is that he is honest. aside from the robe (in which he is assassinating someone! but also. lets be so honest with ourselves here. you can see his fucking face) he’s immediately upfront with his intentions: he wants the bracelets, he wants power, and he wants you to die. and thats it. he just kind of hands you that information, and then fucks off when you win. on what earth would our fogado do that? dude wouldnt even tell you if he broke his leg, he just partied a little hard last night. but thats just it isnt it? our fogado lies because he loves people, hes protecting them. fell!fogado is transparent because he’s not protecting anyone, he doesn’t care.
but the biggest kicker in fell!fogado’s lack of love is in his interaction with our timerra. our fogado loves his sister more than anything, as he literally plans his entire life around making HER life easier. he sacrifices even just spending time with her just because he needs to make sure hes fully prepared to keep her safe (not that timerra wants that for him but he doesnt really get that. which is another topic i could dive into but this post is long enough lets not make it a novel). fell!fogado though? well you see–
Tumblr media
any love fogado holds for his sister, or any love at all really, is just not present in fell!fogado. and you could say that maybe its just because of the corruption, but then why do we still see love between the fierenese and brodian siblings? even fell!timerra still loves her brother if her conversation with our fogado is anything to go off of. but the writers know that fogado lives and dies on his love for people, its his entire being and so much more so than the rest of the cast. which is why thats what had to change in him for the fell xenologue. it wasnt really just a flip of the switch haha murder thing (though. it could have been handled better. lets be real) but it was the loss of everything that makes fogado him. and i think the fact that this gets to be highlighted in the dlc just makes base game fogado all that much more interesting, because it cements his motivation now that we know what he's like without it. fogado is a guy driven by love and its just fucking great

Went to go see Killers of the Flower Moon a very interesting and well made movie that really delves into the more (relatively) modern realities of Indigenous Americans having to deal with racist imperial interests in keeping their sovereignty rather than the way most popular media focuses almost exclusively on first contact (and often portrays Indigenous nations dealing with colonial forces in latter eras as being less adapt to more advanced technologies that they actually where, a problem this movie does NOT have)

Some predictions/thoughts regarding Alhaitham&Kaveh that I have in light of their soon appearance as playable characters:
1. I think Alhaitham’s quest will be about electing the new Grand Sage(bc he got tired of humans and bc there are npcs around who were talking about 2 nominated sages for the position. Idk if those were from corrupted-uncorrupted darshans but I think establishing a newer way of leading Akademiya (2 main sages instead of 1?) would be a logical continuation of the Archon Quest plot line.)
2. I really hope somehow Kaveh gets a storyline (possibly leading to the Desert & the sandstorm area that is now locked) bc 1) that’s a good character introduction that would help flesh out his personality & he already has a connection to the Desert (he worked on at least one project there) and bc 2) I think going on exploration with Kaveh would be objectively very fun, especially if we run in some ruins. Idk how much he would know about the history of architecture but I would assume he could share some meaningful insights
3. I have zero idea on how Alhaitham would play but I’d assume it would be something unexpected? in regards to his skills, because so far what I’ve gathered from him as a character is that while being extremely straightforward he is prone to “getting out of character” if a situation demands so, so I’m wondering how this could be reflected through his playing style/fight choreoghraphy
4. I read someone mentioning that it would be cool if Kaveh had constructs bc he’s an architect and I totally agree. I also- idk if I want his style of fight to be opposite or complementary to what he seems to be as of now (quite sophisticated, bright, elegant(?)). On one hand seeing something Eula-like would be extremely cool, but on the other hand unhinged fighting style would also be very fun.
I also think it could be fun if he could produce a shield (although now that I think of technicalities I have zero idea how viable a Dendro shield would be. Can it- can it even exist?); I also wonder if he could be a Kuki-type healer (sacrifices hp for healing)

If not too offensive for you, but K world Squid Game?
I already wrote something like that here focusing on just the Munakata-Mikoto-Fushimi-Yata group so I'll try to expand a little more here and not repeat myself ^^;; Imagining like the whole cast getting stuck playing the game (except Anna and Sukuna, who are just kids and probably wouldn't be allowed to play, and Kotosaka who's a bird...and possibly Neko since she's a 'cat') maybe they all break off into their little clansmen 'groups' after the first game because everyone has a different idea of how they should play. I could see Munakata being the one to take charge when the first game happens and everyone realizes how dangerous it all is, like when the first person gets killed – and let's face it, it's probably Totsuka – Munakata is the one who starts rallying people to gather themselves and try to win the game properly. On the Homra end assuming Mikoto still knows Totsuka in this AU I think he would be pretty angry over them not being told the danger this game puts everyone in and Kusanagi has to grab him by the collar and remind him that rushing forward to punch some guys in masks isn't going to help anyone. Kusanagi would probably be the one mustering the Homra group in this situation, telling everyone when to run and when to hold still (Yata definitely almost falls at least once and gets caught by Fushimi, who just acts like he was saving Yata because it would be annoying if Misaki got killed in front of him). Meanwhile Kuroh and Shiro sort of team up, Kuroh probably concerned that Shiro isn't taking this seriously and feeling like it would be wrong to abandon another person to death. The Greens are more intrigued by this than anything, since this is AU imagine Hisui is not in his wheelchair but maybe it's like him and Iwafune competing and Iwa-san suspected something was up about all this. Yukari is one of the first across the finish line and watching Hisui complete the game and the way he's clearly observing everything catches Yukari's interest.
After the game is over Munakata I think would be the first to suggest they all get together to forfeit, not wanting to see more loss of life. Kuroh would be strongly in agreement, feeling that no money is worth what they just went through. In the end though say they can't get everyone to agree (because I feel like Munakata in particular would not want to come back even if he was backed into a corner, he would try to find another way that doesn't involve wasteful loss of life, and I think Kuroh too would just refuse to be part of this again). At some point one guy, Colorless, decides to just beat up and kill another contestant, noting that well no one said the losers all had to be killed by the games and that's when everyone starts breaking off into factions to protect themselves. Homra is definitely the friendship group, where they all want to work together and win the games with passion and pride and they'll all bring home the money together. Everyone circles around Mikoto because he seems so strong but also really cool and like isn't going after weak people and stuff, Yata is definitely charmed by him.
Fushimi is originally dragged into that group too and maybe it's not until the marbles game that he leaves, like say the Homra guys all pick partners randomly and so Fushimi gets stuck with someone who's not Yata. He's pissed about it until he realizes that this just saved his life, because there's no way he could have let Yata be the one to die. While all the other guys are devastated that they had to kill their friends Fushimi alone argues that they need to stop playing family and start looking out for themselves, deciding that he can't keep Yata alive if Yata's so worried about the safety of others. Yata does survive the game but would probably be pretty crushed by it, especially hearing Fushimi being so cold afterward. This is definitely I think where Mikoto dies, I feel like he would lose on purpose to pretty much anyone rather than letting them die for him. (For maximum pain, maybe he gets to die for Kusanagi and now oh look All Kusanagi's Friends Are Dead.)
Fushimi decides to go join Munakata's group instead, Munakata is basically trying to guide his people through the games as best he can but he's more pragmatic about it, he doesn't want to kill anyone but he accepts that it might be necessary (say Munakata survives the marble game too because S4 also picks at random and Munakata ends up with a young starry-eyed former police officer named Kusuhara, who was dazzled by Munakata in the first game and is proud to lose for his sake). S4 is also shaken by the marble game but those who survived are more willing to push forward for the sake of their comrades. Jungle meanwhile have all won their games, they chose easy marks for just this purpose and while they are a 'group' they're also playing as individuals who will make their own choices. Kuroh and Shiro get the really hard loss, I think Kuroh would try to throw it because he feels that giving up his life for someone else would be the right thing to do, but then Shiro tricks him and takes the loss instead (except Kuroh only hears Shiro get shot and doesn't see it, and Shiro's a suspicious old guy at heart...).
The hopscotch game on the glass panels is probably where most of the remaining alphabet squad end up dead, they get unlucky early numbers and it's all very emotional. The characters who survive manage to do so by the sacrifice of their earlier companions and eventually thanks likely to Munakata and maybe Fushimi, the two who I think would be most likely to figure out the trick to tell which glass is sturdy. Munakata however is smart enough not to give away the reason why he's able to guess which glass is good and which isn't, claiming 'intuition,' and Fushimi follows suit (Yata almost dies by getting angry and being like fuck your intuition, before he can jump though one of the last remaining Homra guys goes first and ends up being the one to die). I feel like we'd probably end up with more contestants alive at the end than in the actual show and this might make the final game pretty interesting, the three members of jungle versus the remaining members of Homra – likely Yata and Kusanagi – versus the remaining members of S4 – Munakata, Fushimi and possibly Awashima – and poor Kuroh, all alone wanting to do the right thing and having no idea what that would be.
