and given that gabriel heralded the birth of jesus in the first place, its perhaps all hinged on gabriel himself that the second coming happens, ergo if they eradicate gabriel, then there's no second coming, and therefore there's no tilting of the scales to favour heaven in the eventual war that will follow

Long ask ahead lol but I just got out of a Covid phase, my first time catching it, and my experience with the smell/taste loss was kind of weird. I can tell that everyone experiences the symptoms in a different way and to different degrees, unfortunately nothing is set in stone with this illness.

Personally, I only lost smell/taste on the third day after starting to notice symptoms (in my case, fever and severe body ache came first), and then I couldn't smell nor taste anything, and I noticed when I couldn't notice that my cats' litter needed a change lol. I had a congestion/stuffy nose as well (in fact, I still have it, but less that before), but the loss of smell and taste was absolute for two days before it slowly came back later, with or without congestion. I had a hard time eating w/o taste too, plus the overall sick feeling made me lose some appetite.

The best I can describe my experience is that it was like eating textures. Noodles were some soft slimy texture, crackers were a hard dry one, nothing had any flavor, no matter how much I'd season it. However, here's where it gets weird: I could still feel the kind of flavor they had if it was strong enough, without noticing the flavor itself (?). Like if I ate something salty, like potato chips, I could tell it was salty, as if my taste buds reacted the way they do to very salty flavors. But if it wasn't because I was looking at the potato chip, it didn't taste like potato chip, and it could as well be a teaspoon of salt, because it was the same feeling. No taste, just my taste buds reacting to salt and making my mouth feel like it had salt in it, without tasting the salt. If I seasoned something with salt (or something likely) I felt nothing.

It's similar with sweet flavors. I didn't taste any sweetness, even fruits were tasteless. But I'm guessing that since I love sweets, that's why I could feel my mouth getting more watery at sweet things, although I, myself, had no clue what it actually tasted like. Could be sugar, candy, chocolate, and it was all the same. And again, a soft sweet drink was tasteless. It's like my taste buds were on but muted or at a very low volume, lmao.

And it came back two days later, slowly, and by the next day I was able to smell and taste normally again, although I started having other symptoms instead. Today I fully recovered smell and taste, but I'm still with a small congestion and a cough every now and then, because I'm more short of air than before, and they say it could last some more weeks.

I hope it goes easy on you, make sure to stay hydrated and get lots of rest. I'm guessing that it depends on its severity and viral charge to determine how bad (and how many) the symptoms are, plus previous health conditions and such. But it's still hard to find two people going through it the same way, or recovering at the same pace. Take care and stay safe!

Aah, thank you so much for the input! Your experience is kind of similar to mine in the sense that I had other symptoms before I lost my smell and taste. :3 Knowing that it returned fairly soon is kind of a relief though.

In my case it also isn't as severe to the point where I can't taste or smell anything at all. I just need to really get my nose in there to smell something while otherwise I would be able to smell it from a distance. I can still distinguish tastes as well, but I need to really concentrate and they're not as intense either.

Right now, I've been craving stuff like toasted bread (because of that CRUNCH) and apples because they're juicy, crisp and slightly tart, which is one of the flavors I can still taste best. Also vanilla yoghurt with granola still tastes pretty good too. The yoghurt is refreshing and the granola adds texture so it doesn't feel like eating gloop.

On the flip side...I've always been a wuss when it comes to spicy food so maybe this is my chance to order some Indian or Thai food and actually be able to eat it lol. (Then die from cramps afterwards as IBS kicks my ass)

- Now Bill is of course one cheeky bugger, and he loves flirty with anything with two legs and a pair of boobs right? Wrong; originally when he meets you, you’re a little put off at the fact he seems to shut his mouth for once when he’s in your presence, and it annoys you to no end because you’ve heard him flirting with other girl and you WANT IT. So of course you kinda believe he don’t like yah when in fact he really really does. Now because you’re a bit put off by his flirting you kinda pull back from him a little and tend to stick more with babe who’s just the sweetest little thing around, so now Bill thinks yah don’t like him either. HOWEVER, our little wild Bill couldn’t help himself one day when he see Babe just a little too close for comfort to you and omfg he just goes off at him, like gently cause it’s Babe but still pretty ragey. He tells him “ain’t no one around here suppose to be touching her but me, so clear out” Your face kinda goes bright pink and you just have no clue what’s going on, your brain is about to spontaneously combust and god if yah heart bet any faster it’d punch a hole in your chest.

- After that little show, you both realise that you’re into each other more than you’d both led on thank goodness. You are often not seen with Bill trailing behind you like a bit of a lost puppy (but he’ll tell you he’s a big puppy you know like a German Shepard or a Rottweiler, something big and manly and territorial yah know).

- the men often poke fun at the replacements to go and talk to you, the pretty little lady in the corner, as to create some entertainment for the night. When flirted with by random guys you can often be seen sitting wide eyed and a little put out by the idea of this guy not being Bill. NOW, when Billy boy sees his dame looking uncomfortable, it’s where the entertainment for the men begins. He makes sure he’s finished his pint of beer before he slams it down extremely aggressively on the counter and stands up, straightening his shoulder back while an arrogant smirk pulls to his lips. You see him coming over this replacement’s shoulder and kinda roll your eyes at what you know is about to happens. He strolls up and places a hand with splayed fingers on his chest, giving him a bit of a shove away from you, stepping in front of you to create distance between yah. He mutters threateningly some pretty interesting things to this dude, telling him to stop bothering his lady and that she doesn’t wanna have to deal with seeing his ugly mug in front of her. The replacement usually freaks the hell out and will nod their head furiously before sprinting off, the men watching all laughing in success. HOWEVER, In the event that the replacement thinks he’s just god gift to the world, and to you more specifically, Bill is left seething in pure rage, especially if this guy tries to even look or talk to you again while he’s standing right bloody there in front of him. He’ll find something else pretty jarring to say to the dude that’ll make him think twice about talking to you ever again before the dude will storm off angrily. None of this really bothers you at all, it’s pretty common so you just sit there sipping away at your drinking waiting for the dick measuring competition to be over.

- He very much enjoys your shorter height, often teasing you about it cause he loves seeing the way your features scrunches up into a little grumpy face. He’ll usually give a little chuckle before placing his hand on the back of your neck, pulling you to him and place a big kiss on your forehead. He’ll say something like “I’m just playing with you doll, it’s the perfect height for me to do this.”

- Bill thinks that you are just the most amazingly put together woman ever; body, mind and soul. He would bloody worship the ground you walked on, coming back to the following you round like a lost puppy. Even though you don’t often ask for much he’s still right there waiting for you to mention even something small like “I’m thirsty” and he’ll be off in a cloud of dust and back in seconds with a bottle for you, anything that his woman wants, his woman will get. And he will be the only one that gets to do anything for her, the only one.

- He truly does think that you’re some kind of goddess with the way you look. He’s constantly got to touch you just to make sure you’re actually real, often resorting to running his fingers through your hair, something he’s gotten very attached to doing. If you’re sitting next to him at dinner, at the pub, in barracks etc etc, anytime you’re right there, he will have one of his hands resting in your hair just playing with the strands of it. He loves your freaking hair.

- HENCE WHY, first thing in the morning you will without a doubt wake up to the smell of coffee. When you open your eyes, there will be a freshly brewed cuppa sitting right next to you waiting for you. You often get confused when you feel bill still snoring away behind you, but you soon come to realise he’s figured out when you usually wake up and halls himself out of bed to make you a fresh cup of Joe before placing it beside you and jumping back into bed, usually falling back asleep within minutes. You reach out to take a sip and hun in contentment as it’s brewed exactly how you like it. You feel Bill’s arm round your waist loosen as you sit up against the headboard to drink it, only for his grip to tighten back round your hips or thighs, a place hell often rest his head so you can run your fingers through his hair while you drink you coffee. If you’re the kind of person who needs a second coffee before you can function fully (like me, I’m that person) then he’ll jump out of bed with you, pulling you in for a full, passionate kiss good morning with the muttering of “good morning baby, my goddess, the light of my life, do you want another coffee? There some more waiting for you in the kitchen.” This man just knows you so freaking well that sometimes its got you thinking like how the hell did I get so lucky. Meanwhile he’ll be looking at you all adoringly, heart eyes for sure, gazing up and down your body as he takes in every single part of you before wondering the same god damn thing.

- One of Bill’s favourite things about you is that you are strong, no matter what you’ve been through, you’re still out there kicking, taking on the world even if you’re doing it quietly. He admires you so deeply for that, often catching himself in a bit of a love sick starry eyed moment when he thinks about it for too long while looking at you. If he gets caught he’ll play it off with some reasonably risqué pick up line that you usually end up just laughing at. On those times when you don’t laugh and you’re taking it seriously…Oof fun adult playtimes for you

- Bill has become pretty good at picking up on when you’re zoning out, when you’re brain just takes you away from the world with other thoughts about random little things. Sometimes he’ll just sit with you and let it happen for a while, but in other times when he needs your attention he’ll crouch in front of you and grasp your face, gently patting it. He’ll whisper something like “come back to me baby, I need you here with me now” and god if it doesn’t just make you wanna swoon. The fact that he takes such care with you when he knows your mind isn’t where you feel it should be, wow just wow. There are also those other days where it isn’t about zoning out per say, it’s more like you have a billion and one things zooming through your skull, wanting to be done right then and there and you have to get them done. You’ll talk in random bits of gibberish or slightly slurred English and he’ll struggle to understand what the hell you’re on about. Those are the days where he’ll stay out of the way, and let you do what you need to do for the sake of your head. Of course he won’t let you run yourself into the ground, hence why he sits and watches instead of just leaving you be full stop. He knows that if you really did need him, he’d be sitting right there ready to help. Another thing he does when you’re getting jittery is he’ll give you his hand to play with, you can intertwine and loosen your fingers around his or trace the lines of his palms or simply touch the skin of his hand and it brings you a great sense of calm as you have something to fidget with.

- Following on from this, Bill has also picked up on those days where you just don’t have the energy to talk. He’ll curl you up in a little ball in his arms and just hold you to him, often whispering away in your ear about his own day so you don’t feel you need to say anything. He’ll try his best to just find a smile or a scrunch of the outer corners of your eyes to tell him whether you’re really up for him being so close, but more often then not you love to just sit and listen to him, slowly recharging your battery. He knows that you aren’t always going to be able to tune in to what he’s talking about but that’s okay to him, usually why he choose the most random of thoughts to speak about. On those days where you really really don’t have the energy, even for him, he’ll respect that you need your space and will leave you to your own devices for a while, though in all honesty he really doesn’t want to leave you. He knows at this point that it won’t be long before you have enough energy for him at least but that he has to give you that time.

- Our little Wild Bill is so supportive of his woman and her studies, hence why he’s taken up the mantle of housewife, he even gets his Ma to teach him how to cook properly so you can take the time to study, or at least the time to think about studying as sometimes it takes a little more of a push to get started some days, trust me I get it. He will waltz into the room with breakfast, lunch AND dinner, sometimes even a dessert, and he relishes in the look of amazement on your face every time. He literally never would ah e thought he’d EVER be caught doing this kind of thing and yet here he was, apron tied around his waist, a little splash of sauce on his forehead, waiting for you to take the first bite. He gets so much satisfaction from watching you enjoy the food, knowing that he’s the one who does this for you and he’s the one who gets to enjoy it.

- Bill figured out pretty quickly that you love the outdoors. He’d taken great notice of the way your eyes would light up at the sight of the sun and the way your gaze trailed over the scenery before you. Gosh, he especially noticed it after running Curahee one day and you’d paused at the top of the hill for a moment to take it all in, something he’d originally been so confused about. Now he understands it though, hence why he often takes you for walks or picnics. He loves to watch as you run around, using up all your built up energy to just live and breathe with nature. When it turns to the winter months he knows you struggle with the cold. He makes it his mission to make you as comfortable as possible with him. He makes sure you’re all rugged up, tucked in tightly with a few blankets, fire going, and of course him pressed firmly against your back with his arms around your waist, keeping you as cosy as possible. He knows you miss being able to spend lots of time outside without catching a cold or just generally freezing your ass off so he likes to try and find other ways to entertain you such as baking with you (often doesn’t turn out too great but that’s alright to him as long as your smiling, with flour staining your skin and clothes), playing board games, reading and in your case writing (which he will often find prompts to give you so you have something to write about and then he’ll ask you to read it back to him, something you’ll get a little flushed about but he loves listening to the sound of your voice as you read it to him).

ahh ty!!!!! i went digging through my sketchpads and files to see if i had any other references planned out but i found nothing, really sorry about that! this au is still very much in the very early concept stage, and im not great at character design, so i might go looking to see if some of my friends or mutuals would like to help me in making it if i end up making it into a big project!

i do have a fair description of some of the characters though, just no visuals. hope thats ok! ill stop this lil rant now and get on to describing the characters lmao

some character descs under the cut!

now that i think of it, i haven't really fleshed out ralsei! he fills in as the kris of the au, though i haven't decided yet if he would be possessed yet, as the code is kinda fucked up and i dunno if that would even be possible. he lives in castletown (where he is NOT the prince, castletown has a mayor (lancer's dad) and functions as this au's hometown. hometown is the au's castletown) with his two adoptive parents, seam and jevil (SORRY IM A SEAMVIL SHIPPER HH). He has an older sibling (currently unnamed, but is agender and goes by he/she/they pronouns) who is currently in college. Ralsei's personality is similar to his canon one, hes just a sweet lil boy, but he is quieter. he has a slight feeling that there's something wrong, but he isn't quite sure WHAT is.

so, along with ralsei having the sort of 'kris role' in this au, lancer will be filling in susie's role! by no means does he act like susie, however, he does act tough, but i basically just canon lancer. he is a good bit younger than ralsei, being only 10, and was actually born after the whole world 'flipped'. he doesn't really have the most interesting story so far, he mainly just follows ralsei around because he thinks he's really cool, and they end up bonding before the actual story takes place. he, like most people, isn't aware of the 'flip' that happened in the timeline.

the character that is kind of in the 'ralsei role' is currently unnamed (they don't technically HAVE a name, im just trying to think of a nickname that lancer would call them), but they couldn't be more different to ralsei. they in courage fighting over acting because they are a little gremlin full of spite (though generally ralsei refuses). they also don't want to help darkners as they feel it isn't their job, but they go along with lancer and ralsei because they decided that those two would probably die if they didn't. they aren't really the ruler of hometown? they're just the only resident. also, they're the only person who knows to an extent what the fuck is going on with the timeline (and might have some links with the code?) but they have no clue who THEY were before the flip, if they even existed, as they are aware some didn't. they just can't remember. they disguise their face with some kind of magic

ALSO SPAMTON!! hes not really an all that important character, but back in his day he was on top; he was married to jevil, he was the ceo of the biggest company in the world, run by the addisons, and had personal links with the president (though, she liked to call herself 'queen') of the country he lived in. but, after he divorced jevil (this was before ralsei was adopted), he lost his job and is now confined to a little used car shop at the edge of castletown. he's doing alright, but he looks fondly back at his days of being a big shot. he doesn't like seam or jevil very much though

as i said, still very much a work in progress, but i have a lot of other ideas for this au, and really hope i can do something cool with it!!! tysm for the ask anon!!!

OKAY, now that ive caught up on uploads (which also reminds me that i need to beef up the backlog again, got only a week left), time to update on genshin.

first, dho update- i got xianyun! 76 pity on 50/50, and i won. wouldn't have been too mad about losing to tighnari, mona, or dehya, but im really glad i got her. also snagged beidou off the 4 star selector, so now i'm just missing xinyan in terms of 4 stars! and in terms of elements, im only missing hydro and dendro (and the only dendro i can use is tighnari... rip me. at least hydro has yelan, who i can hopefully guarantee).

however, the primo grind continues- xiao's coming up soon, and chiori is right after. and chlorinde can't be too far away either. and wriothesley is due for his first re-run soon. watch the two of them run at the same time actually, just to spite me specifically lmao. im gonna end up clearing out the entire game within the next six months rip

heard some rumors about a new third type of banner, and if it's true, im thinking ill switch signature weapons only to being just that banner only. ngl, i made sig weapons only on a whim because the idea sounded cool, and i liked the idea of using my favs with their signature weapons (i have put 0 wishes into the weapon banner on my main, and don't see that changing unless i spontaneously get a billion dollars :P)

however, the reality is less fun- i've no clue what to do with the four stars, and it doesn't really seem restrictive or challenging, just tedious (i haven't even left mondstadt rip). dho is an interesting challenge for me bc of how limited the roster is, whereas with swo the entire game is the roster, it's just a matter of grinding out primos.

and considering i just spent two weeks grinding primos for xianyun, and will have to continue grinding primos for both xiao and probably chiori.. i'm less keen on the idea now lol. hoping that new banner, if real, also has the characters' weapons on it.

if the banner doesn't get added next patch like the rumors say, then. idk, white hair only characters? using the inverse rule from dark hair characters- 155-255 value instead- would make like half the game available, but restricting it down to like 200/210-255 might be an idea. im just gonna sit on this problem for now though, and see what happens.

I'm guessing Freestyle Gladiator is some sort of promotional program Chuuouku is at least partially involved with, and that's all fine and dandy, but has the rest of the plot just stood still while this has happened? Like... is Ramuda not still deathly ill? Is Jakurai still supposed to be working for Chuuouku even though Honobono reneged on Jakurai's terms? Are the Buster Bros still at odds with Rei? What's going on with the whole Juuto's job thing? I guess this is probably supposed to be a funny bit so the plot doesn't apply, but I have a few questions about the logistics of it.

(1:07) I already laughed about this when the preview came out, but it's STILL hilarious to me that the first thing Ramuda ever says to Sasara that's not related to the brainwashing is, "lol your jokes suck ass"

Hitoya's name, meanwhile, means "prison" on its own but is also used in the word "hell" so much that for me, at least, the first thought upon seeing it is hell. I've always wondered if he might have resented that naming scheme, and I wonder if choosing the name Heaven here is intentional. Perhaps he's copying Sora? Or perhaps he's naming himself Heaven Heaven, the Hypmic version of Moon Moon.

(24:48) Honestly, I understand how Kuukou turned out this way when considering Shakku.

(25:09) I have to say, I'm not super fond of the Kuukou/Dice/Juuto line-up if only because Kuukou's kind of overpowering the other two. It's not that I think Kuukou should be less extra. I love every part of the Kuukouness here. It's more that I wish we'd gotten more of Dice and Juuto's particular nonsenses as opposed to having them be the sensible-seeming tsukkomis. FP is def. a lot more balanced, because one character is always playing straight man to the other two bozos, but who the bozos are is constantly rotating. Likewise, MTC is more balanced because every single one of them is, at all times, thinking, "Let me, the mature and reasonable adult, humor these children I'm with." But here there's not enough trade-off. I guess BAT works well because Juushi and Hitoya are so bombastic on their own that they basically shove Kuukou out of the way for screen-time, but here he's kind of hogging it. And that's a bit of a shame.

(26:36) For a very weird moment, I thought Doppo was the one smoking (I think it's Samatoki and Rei) and so I thought the other two had indoctrinated him. Doppo comes back to Matenrou reeking of nicotine, and Hifumi won't let him into the house. Jakurai immediately tries to force him to join a quitting smoking program at his clinic.

(27:15) I love how Rei and Samatoki say p. much the same thing as Jakurai does before every battle, but their deliveries could not be more different.

(28:12) I appreciate how seriously Riou takes this. That's one of the biggest things I like about Riou. For all of his pride in being a soldier, he understands the weight of conflict and doesn't seek it out lightly.

(28:42) *head in hands* RiOUUUUUUU IS THE BEST. He never once belittles anyone for their interests and always, always, ALWAYS considers things with weight if anyone else cares about them. He’s! Such! A! Good! Person! FUCK!

(30:37) The way his suit keeps flapping around him as he exercises is really something else.

(30:52) I wonder if Sasara used to do this back when he worked with Roshou too. Group exercises, maybe? Except Roshou was kind of jacked back then (or he looked like it, at any rate), so maybe the exercises were simply Roshou benchpressing Sasara.

(31:00) Gentarou must be bored. He’s finding a way to entertain himself.

(31:23) I think Gentarou’s spent so long around Fling Posse that he’s forgotten how to behave in polite society, or rather that most people won’t humor him by falling for his tricks. (Do I think Dice truly believes Gentarou most of the time? Not really. Does it amuse Gentarou? Yeah, so that’s why Dice does it. He does the same thing for Ramuda, and Ramuda likewise plays up falling for Gentarou’s tricks, so I think it’s safe to assume that Dice isn’t as much of a dweeb around Gen as he pretends to be.) Dice and Ramuda aren’t noticing this as much on their end because Dice isn’t really in a good environment for letting out some of his particular goofiness, and Ramuda accidentally ended up with another two enablers. Hahaha. Gentarou might be homesick for them.

(31:40) Ah.... only Dice could eat with such.... passion.......

(31:45) I have to say, it’s a lot easier to understand Dice with food in his mouth than Ramuda. Kudos to Nozuyama. (?)

I’m actually going to stop here (at the part where the alarm goes off) because I’ve been doing this for several hours, and I want to sleep, but I hope that this has been entertaining for anyone brave enough to read the whole thing.

TLK Season 5 Review

Late last night (well, actually early this morning), @lauwrite1225 and I finished the last season of TLK and I have THOUGHTS. (This got very long, lmao. Get ready for an essay 🤡)

Firstly, I just want to come out and say it that I fucking love this season. So many shows are let down by their final season, but TLK is not one of them. There was not a single episode that I thought was significantly weaker than the others. Obviously some episodes are less action packed than others but I thought all of them were very good. There were no storylines that I disliked and so many that I loved. The way that they wove the story together, building to the final episode was, I thought, very well done.

Spoliers below:

The only criticism I have of the season is that there wasn't enough Finan - but then I am in love with him so I doubt there would ever be enough Finan for my taste. I had really hoped that we would have gotten Finan's backstory and the Irish storyline in the books, as anyone who has read the books or Finan fanfics know it's pretty epic. Also it would have given Finan so much more to do as a character.

However, to do Finan's past justice would have taken a lot of time, new characters and changed the season completely. As much as I would have loved for it to be explored, I'm not sure how they could have fit it in and I would rather them not do it at all than squeeze it into the storyline and do it badly. Also, this is Uhtred's show, and it has always been focused on Uhtred - I cannot really blame the writers for focusing on him instead of Finan. Also not sticking to the books meant that we had no clue what was going to happen and everything was a complete shock. I found it so hard to predict what would happen next, but if they had, for example, taken the Irish storyline from the books, we would have lost that as we would know what to expect.

I also wish we saw more domestic Finan and more of Ingrith. Up until a week ago, I was hoping and expecting Finan to be with Eadith, however I have been converted. I really loved the little we saw of Ingrith and they were very cute together - I bought they were a couple and have fallen in love with them.

I mean LOOK AT THEM!

I think we could have at least had Finan and Sihtric happy with their families in the ending montage but oh well.

I also think they handled Finan and Eadith very well - it was clearly shown that there was once something between them, so not just completely ignoring the flirting at end of season 4 - but it's also clear that they have moved on.

On the subject of Eadith, I really liked her this season and especially her relationship with Aelswith. I thought it was great we had more positive female interactions: between Ealfwynn, Aelswith and Aethelflaed; Aelswith and Eadith; and Stiorra and her women in Eoferwic, especially her maid.

Aelswith was on form as usual, her frantic fear of being ill and her classic insults were very funny but also her development from last season was continued. The scene with her and Uhtred after Aethelflaed's death was so unexpected but so perfect, the growth from wanting Uhtred dead to accepting comfort from him is so good.

There were several unlikely partnerships this season, all of which I loved. Uhtred and Aelswith becoming allies, Heasten helping Uhtred, Hild and Heasten working together, and the biggest for me, Brida and Pyrlig.

I honestly can't believe how well Brida's storyline was done. I'll be honest, I was not expecting much - I thought she would be a psychotic maniac who does so many despicable things that when she is eventually killed we have no doubt that Uhtred made the right choice. However, what we got WAS SO MUCH BETTER. Yes, she was a maniac at the beginning, but I really felt sorry for her after her daughter died and her conversations with Pyrlig were so interesting -however once she stabbed him I was all ready to see her getting killed again, but her confrontation with Uhtred was so heartbreakingly well done that I ended up crying at her death. The use of the flashbacks was a stroke of genius. This bloody show made me cry for the death of a character I have wanted dead for over a season! It was also super poetic that their showdown happened in the burnt remains of their home with Ragnar the Fearless, where they both became Danes, and also interesting that it was Stiorra who killed her in the end. I honestly thought she was going to get a redemption, with Uhtred forgiving her and honestly I am not sure if I wanted her to or not, I thought I hated her, but the last scene really made me question it.

All the deaths were so well done - AND I CRIED SO DAMN MUCH! Aethelflaed's death was heart breaking, but Aldhelm's pain at losing her BROKE ME. Also once again they made me care about a pairing I never shipped - I do not ship Uhtred and Aethelflaed, but boy did I care about their reunion and them saying goodbye. Sigtryggr's death was also heart breaking but also beautiful - his goodbye to Stiorra, Uhtred making sure he had a sword and died with honour, and his burial. (I also like how they had him buried in the mound in the ship - those are real things and there are several of these type of graves near where I live in East Anglia, so that's cool). Poor Osferth, I had a feeling he was going to die before the season even started. I cried a lot, the way Finan was holding him and blaming himself making it so much worse. Also the panic and pain in Uhtred and Sihtric's faces when they realise Osferth isn't with Finan. Some people have questioned the point of his death, but honestly people die in battles and it's frankly unbelievable that none of the coccham squad had died up to that point, also there was no real plot point to Leofic's death. However, I do agree with Lau that Finan should have killed Bresal for revenge for Osferth, that would have been epic and given more meaning to his death - however Aelswith doing it was iconic.

Aethelhelm's scheming was great and the politics were intriguing without becoming too heavy, as I felt it did with the middle of season 4. Accidently killing his daughter completely took me by surprise and added another side to him, seeing his grief and then his resolve was very interesting. Also his relationship with Bresal, who was clearly more than just a dim witted henchman we normally get. Aethelhelm was such a great villain and the showdown with him, Aethelstan and Aelfweard was so good.

I really liked Aethelstan. You can tell he is raised by Uhtred, from his fighting ability to his sense of honour. I found it funny how he mastered the act of screaming for Uhtred, which was lucky seeing as he was attacked on so many occasions. Also the way Uhtred runs to his aid shows how much he cares, and contrasts to Edward hearing Aethelstan shout for help during the killing of the Mercian Ealdormen and doing nothing.

Also that scene was so brutal - Edward really has become ruthless. I liked him a lot better this season and I think you can see more Alfred in him than you could before. His out manoeuvring Aethelhlem was great but also interesting that his impulsiveness and anger that were an issue last season remained. His stubbornness and refusal to listen did bring us one of my favourite scenes - Aldhlem, Aelswith, Pyrlig and Aethelstan all choosing to defy the king and support Uhtred.

The relationships between Uhtred and his children were great - especially Stiorra. She really was not pulling punches when she had a go at Uhtred, but after losing Sigtryggr I can't blame her. I love that we see so much of Uhtred in her; like the way she goaded Brida to make the square and her stubbornness. Young Uhtred forgiving Brida and him helping Uhtred to forgive her too was poignant to watch. The scene at the end with Uhtred, Young Uhtred and Stiorra all hugging each other made me emotional. AND I AM SORRY BUT OSBERT!????? The mystery child has been revealed. I honestly can't believe it - I am intrigued for the role he will play in the movie.

Sigtryggr and Stiorra's relationship was amazing to see - the way they ruled Eoferwic together, Sigtryggr screaming at Finan and the others about how he couldn't let Stiorra die, how they fought back to back in battle and the goodbye kisses. Also Sigtryggr was a bad ass and his fight in Eoferwic in the middle of the circle really showed just how great a fighter he is. Yes he was manipulated by his brother, but I could understand why he wanted to help him.

The fighting in this season WAS SO GOOD. Each battle was unique and I feel did something different to those we have seen in previous seasons. I especially loved the Danish attack on Aethelhelm's camp - going across the ice looked so cool. The individual fighting was also amazing - each character got moment's in each battle, especially Finan and Sihtric (Finan fighting a guy with a severed hand was hilarious).

Also the end battle was so great, them pushing them off the cliff, Stiorra joining the battle, and the Coccham boys sneaking around Bebbanburg. Uhtred's speech to the Danes was inspiring and also exemplified the entire show - the entire series he has been split between Saxon and Dane, and finally he is bringing those two sides together and it is precisely the fact that he is of both peoples which enabled him to inspire the men to fight.

The showdown with Whitgar I thought was interesting as Whitgar admitted that he could not beat Uhtred man on man, so had to use deceit and surprise, which was how he took the fortress to begin with. Uhtred just throwing him off the balcony and him being impaled was unexpected but great. I actually really liked Whitgar, in the same way I did with Aethelwold - he's a piece of shit but the way he was making fun of Aethelhelm was so funny.

I also loved the introduction of father Benedict and of Eadgifu. Also seeing Aelfwynn all grown up was great, although I don't get why she is so naive and why she can't fight - Alfred taught Aethelflaed to fight, I guess I just assumed she would teach Aelfwynn. The Scottish king was also a great addition, he was funny whilst still being a serious threat and his conversation with Aelfwynn about what their marriage would be like gave me a respect for him. I think we will see him in the movie and I hope we do.

Other characters that I always love are Hild, Pyrlig and Aldhelm. Hild caring so much about Uhtred that she's willing to put herself in danger and killing a man to save Aelfwynn, but also seeing her struggle with the guilt of killing and begging the soldier not to fight back so she might spare him. I love Hild so much, she is my favourite character. I wish we had more of her but the couple of episodes she was in, she was iconic as always. Pyrlig is also one of my favourites - I felt so sorry for the man, tortured without anyone seeming to care, and then forced to walk whilst bleeding out - poor man is always walking somewhere. I loved his conversation with Uhtred about God/the Gods and destiny, and giving him advice about if he should take back Bebbanburg. I love how both him and Uhtred stick by their beliefs but respect the other. His compassion he showed Brida after she had captured and tortured him just shows what a great person he is. I was so happy he did not die. Aldhelm was as dependable as always and the way he defended Aethelflaed to Aelfwynn🥺, also him refusing to abandon Aelfwynn because he had promised her mother made me emotional. I thought for a moment he died and I was so mad, but he lived to see another day which I was glad for.

Finally, the ending montage showing the entire story of TLK was such a great idea. It really rounded out the series and made me remember that this is the end (apart from the movie lol). I also loved that the flashbacks started with him being baptised as a kid in Bebbanburg - there's just something poetic about coming back to where it all began. I also loved seeing Leofric and season 1, I think too many people forget about season 1, which is a shame as it's one of my favourite seasons.

I think that is the end of my ramblings. Honestly I loved this season and I know not everyone will love it as much as I do, but I hope we can all agree the ending was satisfying. I will be rewatching many times and writing many other posts and fanfics. If you have kept reading this far, congrats and thank you so much for caring enough to read. 💜
