💯 HUNDRED POINTS SYMBOL — share three random facts about your oc that others may not know.

nora had a Phase in her teens pre-donovan where she dated and hooked up with a string of random boys just to psychologically destroy her mother. she was very insecure about it upon disclosing it to donovan, particularly since it meant she'd had sex before they met, & he essentially responded with "oh, great! :) that means one of us knows what we're doing!" at which point she affixed herself to him like a little barnacle and proceeded to never let go for the rest of her life.

nora picked up a lot of her outfits and fashion choices from donovan's mother and older sisters! she spent most of her time before that dressing ultra punk. she started wearing all the sensible stuff to try and Project an Image, noticed how effectively dressing and acting like a PTA mom got people to shut up and listen to her, and decided to exploit this forever. that said, she definitely has a few long black sundresses printed with skulls and bleeding hearts and shit.

part of the reason nora deliberately chooses not to use her powers has to do with the fact that she was pressured relentlessly by her family to use her powers for their collective gain. she uses them to protect the people she loves & to make their lives a little easier, but that's it. she doesn't want cheat codes -- she just wants to live with donovan and their babies and be happy.

🌈 RAINBOW — what is your oc’s sexual orientation/gender identity? what pronouns do they use?

i don't think nora would know this about herself intrinsically, but i suspect she's demisexual! donovan is literally the only person she's ever been romantically/sexually interested in, and a lot of that is because he's her closest friend + someone she feels safe with. she'd probably ID as straight if asked. if she's kissing someone, it's gonna be a man. (and it's also going to be donovan. but if it WASN'T, it would still be a man.)

🖤 BLACK HEART — has your oc killed or seriously wounded anyone before? have they broken someone’s heart and/or broken someone’s trust?

i don't actually think nora has ever killed anyone. i think that if it came down to it, donovan would be the one to do it.

nora is not a heartbreaker! if she holds someone's heart, she does everything she can not to break it. it's why she never quite got over leaving baby jenny in such a shitty situation -- she is such a fundamentally loving person.

My favourite hobby is to get so invested into a hot old man that I will then wish to read fanfiction for him, come to realize that there is little to no fanbase or writers for that man, get very pent up and then subsequently write a single, long smutty oneshot for him that satisfies my craving then peace out like nothing happened.

brennan: bi (preference for ugly men... but i digress). she probably started exploring her sexual orientiation in college and came to the conclusion that she's attracted to every gender to varying degrees. she's probably tongue kissed angela a few times pre season 1

zack: gayboi with a bad case of hero worship for dr brennan. naomi from paleonthology made him realise this isnt really what he'd like to excavate, if you get the gist... ;) (ew)

angela: imo? bi, but it's up to anyone. canon queer and i'm very happy about it

hodgins: bi. putting my foot down on this one- to me, hodgela is bi4bi. one day early into the series angela goes "why is everyone so hot... being bi is so hard" and hodgins is like "yeah, tell me about it" and they have a Oh, You Too? moment

cam: distinguished (ex-disaster) pan. she's all cool and collected now but in middle school she was probably stuttering whenever she saw a pretty girl

collages for my drawing class of alice, nora, and art, in that order! the text is taken from episodes of buffy: specifically, lines from giles for alice, lines from jenny and enyos for nora, and lines from giles and jenny for art. (plus one phrase from giles for nora. which is apt.)

wanted to do something about fanfiction as collage, specifically the notion of collaging together selected aspects of canon to create family members for pre-existing characters! all three images contain an explicit or implicit family tree, and are constructed with deliberate intention to communicate particular information about each character. (i.e. alice being the only one who doesn't have a wealth of family memorabilia, nora having a collection of mementos, art having an array of rainbow drawings....)

The state of the Hungarian senior national team....

Hungary held Nationals in Budapest this weekend, for seniors and (randomly?) 2002 born juniors. I don’t get the point of not just having all juniors compete but hey, this is the Hungarian federation, so fuck logic. 

AA podium (Hungary doesn’t know what domestic overscoring is FYI):  1. Dália Al-Salty (Józsefváros TE) 49.800 points 2. Boglárka Dévai (Szombathelyi SI) 48.600 3. Inez Sági (KSI SE) 44.500 

Zsófi’s three event score was a 40.200 with a fall on beam/just doing the FTY. 

Detailed rambles after the cut, since I assume no one really cares but basically: THINGS ARE NOT LOOKING GOOD. 

Seniors....... sigh. Noémi Makra was slated to come back at this meet, her name was briefly on the start list, but.... nope. Noémi has gone through a number of injuries, I remember a heel injury, a knee injury, now I wanna say it’s a hamstring injury... At this point getting my hopes up for her to ever reach her full potential seems risky and pointless.

Zsófi competed, but skipped floor due to pain in her legs. There is talk of “several injuries”..... So yay! She also severely downgraded everywhere, which she kinda tends to do at national meets. She did score a 14.1 on bars and a 14.0 on beam in EFs, which is at least mildly promising. I hope to see her do somewhat well at Worlds in AA finals, that’s kind of the only final I see her really making at this point. 

Other notable seniors basically do not exist, Hungary has no depth to speak of, Dorina skipped this meet because of a shoulder injury. I’ve been told she’s not planning to go to Worlds, but who knows. 

Boglárka Dévai (who won bronze on vault at Euros) did compete, and got silver AA with a 48.6, while also winning the vault gold with downgraded badly executed vaults. I’m assuming she’ll go to Worlds just for vault, with her DTY and Lopez she is competitive, at least on paper. 

I guess Dália Al-Salty might go to Worlds along with Zsófi and Bogi, as sort of a last hurrah before retiring, she also did pretty okay at Universiade this year. 

As always when I discuss Hungary I’d like to end on the uplifting note that there’s a lot of great juniors coming up (as seen at EYOF), like 2002 born Nóra Fehér who won the all around in the junior category with a 51.0 despite a fall and some downgrades on Friday. The team will be slightly more competitive next year, with Nóra turning senior and being a solid AAer with great bars, and Sára Péter joining the senior ranks who excels on vault. Add in Csenge Bacskay and Bianka Schermann who turn senior in 2019, and you’ve got yourself some actual domestic competition for who makes teams, as opposed to the current state of affairs where whoever happens to be alive gets to go. 

So... Injuries suck, there are some major issues with both physical and mental wellbeing at Békéscsaba (where Dorina and Noémi train) and Hungary is only very slowly realizing that sports psychologists should not be a last ditch effort thing to utilize but a constant accompanying factor of high level sport.

American Girl Original Historical Character: Minna

Wilhelmina “Minna” Hoffmann • Johnstown, PA • 1889-1890

In late May of 1889, a massive flood ravaged Minna’s hometown and left over 2,000 people dead and many others, including Minna’s family, without a home. The Hoffmans are moving into a new house (after living with her grandparents for several months) that has been built after the flood destroyed much of Johnstown. Minna just wants her old life back, especially since her family’s piano was lost in the flood. As the Red Cross volunteers move out and her father and brother aid with the reconstruction effort, Minna wants to do her part to help, but is coping with her own feelings. She feels lucky that everyone in her family is alive while some weren’t so fortunate.

Wilhelmina loves music and playing the piano- after her family’s piano is lost she stays after school to practice. She also likes singing and is part of the children’s choir at her church. Apart from music, Minna likes to write in her journal. Her parents (both of whom are first-generation/children of immigrants) have quickly assimilated into American culture and no longer speak German, but Minna is curious about her German background, especially learning from her Oma (grandmother) and Opa (grandfather).
