Faint chirping of crickets in the still, warm nights of Tennessee, the spinning of tires on endless gravelly roads scratch through the calm silence as a long tired sigh falls from a pair of lips, a notepad slipping into his breast pocket.
Elvis has been in the Police force for 15 years, he started out back in ‘61 and as much as he loves the job he’s getting a bit bored with it. Especially as he’s getting older, his energy isn’t lasting as long and he’s a lot more pudgy now than when he was at 26. He just can’t keep up with the youngsters nowadays, they outrun him.
Sigh
He gets into the driver’s seat. Elvis switches his sirens off, turning his cruiser around towards the opposite direction than that Ford Mustang was going, starting on his journey home.
Elvis just sits in patrol cars all day now and occasionally switches his sirens on to chase and pull over fellow drivers down route 64 who went over the speeding limit a few miles and write them a ticket. It’s what he has enough energy for these days. Elvis feels sad about it because once he decides to retire one day, what is he gonna do? Yeah, he’s got a lot of money saved and he can go live in Las Vegas or something but what fun is he gonna have? Gambling?
He shakes his head.
“Starting this Saturday!-” Click
Turning the radio off and going 70 miles per hour, Elvis lazily taps his fingers on top of the leather steering wheel. He leans his head back and just for a moment his eyes flick to look out the window out from behind his dark sunglasses, seeing a building with bright warm orange lights decorating the perimeter in the distance.
He turns his indicator on.
It’s really best that he doesn't think about his situation to be honest. He feels lonely when it's thought of for too long.
It's just in his younger days, being flexible and nimble and good-looking. Elvis gets jealous of his past self, sometimes. The amount of girls he was around, the amount of sex he had, the amount of parties he went to, he kind of misses all that. All the fun. He misses being that young.
If only he could experience that fun again.
_
Killing the engine, Elvis adjusts his sunglasses.
Ahem
Lowering his head, he takes a moment to breathe in through his nose and out through his mouth, the dull click of his cruiser’s car door opening fills the still silence. Fresh humid air flowing into the vehicle.
_
“What can I get ya?”
The male wipes his knuckles under his nose as he clears his throat. A crooked grin sliding onto his lips. Police badge shimmering in the light of the bar.
“I’ll have uh…a peach brandy, thanks.”
“Comin’ right up.”
Elvis also doesn’t really hang with his friends that much anymore. Getting sick of their crude conversations, tired of their boisterous tussles. He likes playing rough, it’s just these days, he’s not up for it. He’d rather stay in bed.
He might sound lazy and…maybe he is.
The jiggling sound of keys hooked onto his belt loop, Elvis lifts himself onto one of the old leather barstools. Setting his brandy on the sticky wooden bar as he takes his sunglasses off to hang down his front.
He takes a small sip.
Life for him is just really quiet these days. Not a lot of exciting things happen. Most of the time he doesn’t mind that but on nights like these, where he’s sitting alone at a country bar, feeling bad for himself, he wishes he had something exciting that would happen.
A little company, possibly.
…
“Isn’t he cute?”
Flicking his eyes up towards a hushed voice, Elvis finds a group of four girls giggling with each other a few metres away from him. Glancing over his way every so often.
“Walking around like that…” one of them says, biting their lip.
He wets his lips, his eyes drifting somewhere else.
…
“Alone tonight, officer?”
“Huh?” Whipping his head around, Elvis’ eyes widen seeing the girls he saw before, surrounding him.
“A-Alone?”
They all nod.
“Alone at a bar, lookin’ like that?” a girl purrs.
Elvis is a little taken aback but soon he lets out a shy breathy laugh out.
“I uh…I don’t think ya should be talkin’ to a cop like that, darlin’.”
Another one runs her hand up his thigh. “We saw ya sittin’ here and thought you were a bit lonely.”
He swallows.
They’re not wrong.
“I-I-I well, I-I’m jus’ uh…” Chuckling nervously as his hand gently pushes hers away, another one goes to the opening of his shirt, fingertips buried in his damp chest hair. A breath emitting past his lips as a girl’s face gets up real close to his.
“Why don’t we have a lil fun, huh? Just the five of us…” She says suddenly with a very obvious hint of suggestivity.
A small grin appears on his face. “I-I don’t know about…”
“Have no one to love on ya at home…” One of them coos. Leaning in from his right as her hands sensually squeeze around the spot just above his knee. “It’ll be so fun.”
“Girls, I…”
_
“Lock the door, baby.” A girl giggles to another.
Thud
“D-Darlin’...” Elvis stutters shyly as a dark haired woman backs him into the wall. He doesn’t know how he got here, one minute these girls were seducing him and the next he’s locked in the women’s bathroom with all of them swarming him.
Grabbing his arms, playing with his hair and pulling at his uniform making the buttons fly off.
He should not be in this kind of situation.
He’s a cop.
“Mmm…my god…” The girl frantically kissing him, sighs. Pushing her fingers under Elvis’ jaw to bring him closer. Her other hand slides down his chest, getting tickled by the dark curly hairs as a noise vibrates in his throat.
“H-Honey-”
“Feel me, baby…I feel good.” The girl kissing him, whispers. Guiding his confused hands to rest on her denim short covered hips whilst the other ladies latch their mouths to his skin.
Elvis jolts at the unexpected feeling of someone’s teeth nipping at his collarbone.
“So sexy.” A woman moans out. Mouthing at his skin below his earlobe and a pair of hands unbuckles his belt. Hearing his keys hit the tiled floor, hard.
“Mmm…honey” Elvis softly moans, blushing.
The dark haired woman giggles. “Enjoying it, officer?”
“...M-Mhm.”
The girls all collectively giggle and Elvis is left standing there looking like a mess.
“But Girls, w-w-we really shouldn’t…”
One of them shushes him. “Oh c’mon officer, loosen up a little!” Smirking mischievously.
“He’ll surely be loosened up after we’re finished with him.” another girl quips, making the rest of them laugh.
Elvis should know what to do, he’s a cop. He should really know! But there’s so much going on. He can’t keep up, they’re all too quick.
“Girls!” He gasps suddenly as two of the ladies pull down his pants, leaving him in just his white underwear. Frantically reaching to somehow cover himself feeling embarrassment taking over his body, Elvis' breath hitches as all four of the women stop him and start baby talking.
“Calm down. Calm down, sweetie. We ain’t gonna hurt’chu. Would never.”
“Aww baby’s all flustered.”
“Let us mamas take care of ya, hm?”
“We’ll make you feel s’good.”
All their words making him redden in the cheeks and loosen his grip on the waistband of his pants.
“You just relax…hm?”
A woman’s hand tugging his underwear down, letting his surprisingly hard cock bounce free. Another dainty one goes to wrap around the girth of Elvis’ cock. Stroking it at a steady, slow pace. Earning the tiniest moan from his tightly closed mouth.
“You can be as loud as you want, baby.” A pair of lips pressing against the back of his hands comforts, giving him gentle, unexpectedly loving kisses whilst someone’s tongue runs along his jawline.
“Mmm…” His brain slowly begins to melt, hips stuttering to jerk when a thumb swipes his weeping tip lathering his precum around. Using it as lube as the hand moving on his dick, slides up and down firmly, stretching his foreskin back and forth. They give him that little squeeze that he personally loves. Surprised how this random girl would know what he likes.
“Bet your sweat tastes so good…” Another woman says, sensually. Dipping her head down to lick a stripe up the middle of his pecks, ending in between his collarbones making him sigh, then out of nowhere he’s feeling something warm and wet wrap around his cock’s head, sucking at it like a lollipop.
“Sh*t!”
Sending a much needed, electric shock up his sweaty spine.
Giggling
“Ohh, dirty mouth, officer.” One of the ladies joke.
His breathing ragged.
“G-Girls, I-...Ooh…”. A skilled tongue slipping under his shaft, Elvis feels it touching that vein that runs along his generous length causing him to moan and cause his legs to shake.”F*ck…”
“You were saying?” Multiple soft lips latching themselves onto his cheeks and neck, caging his face in so he can only look up at the peeling white ceiling.
Desperate sounding noises squeeze out of his throat as that warm mouth takes more of him inside. Hitting the back of the throat with a slight nudge.
Adding more of the delicious feeling of pleasure, deep in his balls.
“F*ck, honey-” Shutting his eyes, Elvis shakes his head from side to side, overwhelmed by a pair of hands fondling with his balls, his knees almost buckling from the pressure of thumbs rubbing them then two girls sliding their palms all over the swell of his belly, his head thuds against the pink tiled restroom wall sensing another mouth sucking on one of his balls. Like they're life depended on it.
“Oh god…O-Oh god…” His eyes flutter open as he whines.
His body tensing as his cock slides down a perfectly snug throat, hugging him in all the right places. He feels like he's just about to fall over the edge.
“Gonna cum for us, mamas huh?”
Elvis nods, breathless and hesitant. Watching as the two women kissing him drop down to their knees, all beautiful four angels kneel patiently for him to cum.
And when he does, he comes hard.
“F*CK!”
Strong waves washing over his body and shivers running down his spine, Elvis feels the two girls pull away before white ropes begin to squirt out of his cock, one hand guiding his hot release to every womens’ open mouths making his eyes bulge out of his head as his head lulls down to the lewd sight of his white juices coating their lips and chin. Some of it landing on their eyelashes.
One by one, watching them swallow making him blush.
“Y-You’re crazy- you’re all crazy.” He whispers, weakly.
Laughing
“Oh? Then you better arrest us, Officer.”

Pinned FAQ
How do I request a card?
You can request up to 3 cards for free during openaskbox events! During those, the /ask inbox opens up for a few hours, during which I try to write as many as I can live on twitch and post them on tumblr.
After the event is over and I close that inbox, there are still a BUNCH of leftover requests. This is how I fill the daily content queue, I use those up til it's empty again and then run another openaskbox.
On Saturdays at 1pm EST I write all 28 cards due to go up for the week from that pool of leftover asks live on twitch and then queue them to go up after stream
What if I don't wanna wait?
If you'd like to throw a bit of cash around instead of waiting, you can buy via the etsy listing or you can tune in to those^ Saturday livestreams, there's a variety of ways to donate to get cards written for you on the spot
How do I buy the card I've requested?
The etsy listing is available here! Please remember to include in the notes of the purchase which card(s) you want to buy. If you'd like me to bundle together all the cards you've requested over a period of a few years, dm me here on the blog and I can quote you on a cheaper bundle price
Why did you answer all those asks, it messed up my dash?
Sorry about that! So to keep all of that ^ organized, at the end of the month, I answer about 112-140 leftover asks in order to record them to a proper "to-write document"
It helps me keep organized, it allows me to easily search for spelling issues, and it gets a few eyeballs on the request in case someone tries to slip an obscure slur into their request that I'm not cool with writing (it has happened)
Lots of the regulars are used to this dash nonsense, but there are folks who want to avoid it entirely. If you're on mobile I'd just recommend unfollowing for a while, but if you're on desktop, you can blacklist the tag "added to notepad" and go to xkit to tick the "fully hide blocked tags" option so it clears up your dash
Wait I thought requests were closed, why can I still send things?
That's because requests use /ask, but /submit is always open because it's for YOUR calligraphy, pet photos, fanart of man... etc. Requests are NOT open when it's not openaskbox day but feel free to send me cool shit YOU made anytime
Wait you have a twitch, do you do anything other than calligraphy?
I try! my schedule at work (restaurant) varies week to week so I try my best to stream whenever I've got free time to, nothing's really planned out though
What are your regular writing tools and paper?
I mainly just use speedball nibs, specifically the c-series (c-0 through c-4) because they're angled flat nibs that let me do most blackletter hands I write. I have a supply of leonardt thin tips for detailing and illustrating
The blackletter hands I use rotate through a gothic textura, an italic, a fraktur and an uncial throughout the day, since I post four cards per day.
As for paper, the cards you see on the daily are on plain index cue cards I buy from staples. When commissioned/doing larger pieces, I work with a variety of paper, including a 32 lb xerox paper that has juuuust a perfect amount of lamination that avoids ink feathering, black paper that I bought a hundred sheets of in 2019 and I no longer remember the label, and a BOATLOAD of southworth's ivory parchment paper at both 32 and 64 lb weights. If you're looking to get anything larger than 11x17, I have a bigass 18x24 pad of watercolour paper I can cut down to whatever size we need.

I proposed to my robot girlfriend by sending her an email with a notepad that says "Marry me" encrypted with a 64 bit encryption key, which I put in a thumb drive I hid in my pants.
The ring is made of tungsten carbide and is engraved with the words "I love you" in binary. It's functionally indestructible.

actually, while I'm already going off complaining about Microsoft specifically - and look, I've been using Windows since 3.1, I am very familiar with Microsoft's deep-seated and enduring need to just Utterly Fuck Over their user base every so many years months, but it's kind of fascinating to me that even with Visual Studio 2022 64-bit, the built-in XAML Designer still does not support referencing x64 binaries.
Look, flawed as it is I do like the full-blown Visual Studio - it is absolutely bloated to hells with loads of features that I don't even know about and much of which I could easily do without - especially all of the Fucking AI bullshit with copilot: I'll stick to trusting irate fools shouting at each other on reddit or stackoverflow over hallucinating predictive models thank you very much - but it does all the nice project and build management stuff and organises stuff decently well and at least isn't Another Fucking Web App running on my PC, looking at YOU Visual Studio Code, don't think I haven't noticed you being a glorified webpage running on a private instance of Chromium
Don't suppose anyone's ported C/C++ IntelliSense to NotePad++

you always were the gentle one
pairing:sero hanta/iida tenya seroiida week day two: bandage word count:1.7k title from: hayley williams - my limb AO3
When Aizawa mentioned the upcoming first aid class with Thirteen that was running three days a week after regular classes, Sero had pictured that he would never be involved. It was voluntary and he wasn’t going to willingly sign up for more work than what the hero course was dumping in his lap week after week. They already covered first aid in heroics, he didn’t need a refresher.
But when your boyfriend is the class president and hellbent on being the best successor to the name Ingenium, it only makes sense that he would take the class. And somehow that led to Sero sitting on the floor of Iida’s dorm and watching as his boyfriend unpacked the first aid kit; meticulously inspecting everything his fingers grazed over.
“Are you conscious or unconscious?” Iida asked, not looking up from the kit.
“Conscious?” Sero guessed.
“Okay.” Iida looked up and flashed him a brief yet brilliant smile, causing his heart to stutter a few beats. This was going to be a long exercise of force proximity, not that Sero was complaining. He had been expecting their usual lazy afternoon cuddles that consisted of Sero wriggling his way into Iida’s personal space while the younger boy studied for exams that weren’t happening for another three weeks, but he could get behind the idea of Iida having to touch him as a means of practice.
Not that Iida needed more practice on how to touch Sero.
“I’m going to take your pulse now, if that’s okay?”
“That’s okay,” Sero said, offering his wrist to Iida before he could reach for it.
Iida took his hand carefully before pressing two fingers to the inside of his wrist. It was a soft pressure and Iida’s eyebrows furrowed as he concentrated, his eyes trained on his watch.
Eventually enough time had passed for Iida to get his reading and he set Sero’s arm down carefully. “Pulse of 64 bpm.”
“Is that a good thing?” Sero asked. He crossed his legs and sat up a bit straighter, wanting to be a model patient for his boyfriend.
“It’s perfectly normal.”
Sero had never been happier to be perfectly normal” in his whole life.
“This is a pulse oximeter,” Iida explained, holding up a bulky grey rectangle with a screen on one side. “I’m just going to clip this onto your finger. It might be a bit tight or uncomfortable.”
Sero just hummed, “go for gold.”
Iida clipped the pulse oximeter on easily enough, already grabbing for something else from the kit that seemingly had no end. Bigger on the inside, or whatever they say on Doctor Who.
“SpO2 of 98%,” Iida relayed to no one in particular. Jotting it down on the notepad in front of him.
It was impressive to watch Iida with his brain switched into hero mode doing something as small as clipping a device on Sero’s finger. When Iida was laser focused on a task he never missed a beat, nothing would escape his notice. Sero marvelled at how lucky he was to have the greatest hero Japan would ever know as his boyfriend.
“Do you have any allergies?”
“Nope,” Sero said.
“Any allergies to medication?”
“None.”
“Good,” Iida said. “Have you taken any medication today?”
It took Sero a few moments of thinking just to cut himself off before he could say no. “Paracetamol,” he said. “For a headache.”
He had stopped by Recovery Girl’s office on his way to fourth period, earning himself a kiss on the cheek and some pills pressed into his palm. Recovery Girl had offered for him to take a nap in her office until the next period but Sero knew that if he didn’t show to class Iida would get worried, anyway it wasn’t a big deal.
”And when was that?” Iida asked, concern flashing in his eyes briefly as he studied his boyfriend.
Sero shrugged. “Few hours ago.”
“How many did you take?” Iida was scribbling something down in his notebook. Try as he might, Sero couldn’t catch a glimpse of the words.
“Two,” he answered.
“I’m going to take your blood pressure now, okay?”
Sero just nodded this time and offered his arn to Iida who was quick to press his fingers to the crook of Sero’s elbow, feeling for a pulse.
The tearing of velcro was the loudest thing in the room as Iida prepared the blood pressure cuff, fixing it carefully around Sero’s bicep, making sure the arrows lined up with where they were meant to. Then he pulled out a stethoscope and pressed it to the point where his fingers had been only a few seconds ago.
“It’s going to get a bit tight but it’ll be quick.”
Sero had only had his blood pressure checked a few times in his life and he could say definitively that he didn’t like it. The cuff got too tight and it made him all too aware of his arm and the exact way that it was sitting, but Iida was gentle as he started to inflate the cuff, carefully pumping up the bulb to that familiar too-tight feeling before releasing it, his blue eyes trained on the dial like the reading was the most important thing in the world.
He wrote down his reading without speaking to Sero before returning his attention to the kit. He pulled out a pen and twisted the top until the end lit up with a tiny flashlight. “I’m just going to check your eyes now, it’ll be a bit bright but it’s only for a few seconds.”
“Okay.”
Carefully, Iida propped himself up on his knees and edged closer to Sero, brandishing the pupil torch like a weapon. True to his words it was a quick flash in his peripheral vision and then Iida was scrawling in the notepad again.
“When was the last time you had anything to eat or drink?”
“Lunch,” Sero supplied helpfully.
“What did you have?” Iida asked as if he hadn’t been present at the time, scolding Sero for stealing off his plate, yet never moving to stop him.
“Yakiniku and I stole your orange.”
Iida flipped to a new page in his notebook. “Good.”
“Can I bandage your arm?”
“Sure,” Sero said.
Iida went back to rifling through the kit before pulling out a bandage and tearing open the plastic packaging.
He was careful as he began to wrap Sero’s forearm with the bandage, his eyebrows furrowed in concentration. Sero reached over with his free hand and smoothed the crease between Iida’s eyebrows with his thumb.
“You’re gonna get wrinkles.”
“Thank you for looking out for me, Hanta.” Iida smiled a lopsided grin. It made Sero’s heart skip a few beats.
“It’s my job as a future pro hero to keep your well being my biggest priority.”
“Is it now?” Iida teased, pausing his wrapping to look up at Sero, his eyes glittering.
“Yup,” Sero said. He watched Iida go back to wrapping his arm, the white bandage contrasting with his tan skin as more and more of it got covered.
Iida was gentle as he wrapped Sero’s arm, his tongue poking out from between his lips as he focused on fastening the bandage.
“All done,” he said.
Sero pulled his arm out of Iida’s hold to inspect his handiwork, the bandage stretched from his hand to his elbow, stopping just shy of where his dispenser began to take shape. “Good work. I’d definitely give you an A+.”
“Thank you, it’s not my best work.”
“Always so modest,” Sero chided. “It’s great and I’m sure Thirteen would agree.”
Pulling his weight up onto his knees, Sero was face-to-face with Iida, stretching his long arms up and around Iida’s neck. Sero pulled him in closer and their lips met. Every kiss with Iida was like fireworks were popping off under his skin, like pop rocks fizzing on his tongue.
It was a feeling he couldn’t get enough of.
Even as his hands wandered into Iida’s hair, grabbing fistfuls of soft blue locks, he kept trying to draw Iida closer, as if they could press their bodies hard enough that they would fuse together.
As they parted to catch their breaths Sero looked into Iida’s bright blue eyes and whatever he was going to say died in his throat. He was speechless, a natural consequence of having the most incredible boyfriend ever.
“I love you,” Iida said, pressing their lips together again. His hands came up to rest on the small of Sero’s back, his thumb feeling the pattern of vertebrae under Sero’s shirt.
Sero hummed, “I love you too.”
There were plenty of things Sero regretted doing in the early days of their relationship but waiting so long to tell Iida he loved him was one of the biggest ones, what a waste of time it was to wait to tell someone you love them. Now he said it whenever he could, when he reached across Iida to grab a drink off the nightstand. I love you. Or when Iida reminded him to grab a coat before leaving the dorm. I love you. Especially when Sero snuck downstairs in the night seeking the warmth of Iida’s touch. I love you.
Iida’s hands continued to wander up and down Sero’s back, over his hips and up to his shoulders, pulling the older boy closer as he began to trail kisses along Sero’s jaw, enjoying the way Sero leaned into the contact.
He felt the vibration of Sero’s laughter as he pressed kisses to the side of his neck. Sero was in his lap now, his gangly long legs half wrapped around Iida’s waist.
They were lost in the bliss of each other until a sharp knocking sounded from the door to Iida’s room, effectively interrupting their moment. Sero scrambled out of Iida’s lap as the class president cleared his throat and called out a strained “who is it?”
Sero still had a hand on Iida’s bicep, but other than that it just looked like they had been practising with the first aid kit. Iida couldn’t help the blush on the top of his ears, the embarrassment of being caught tangled up with his boyfriend by whoever had decided to come looking for him. Sometimes being the class president sucked.
“It’s Midoriya,” their interruptor said from the other side of his door. “Kaminari started a food fight in the kitchen.”
Iida groaned, slipping out of Sero’s touch and getting to his feet. “Duty calls.”
“I’ll wait for you here,” Sero said with a soft smile, blowing a kiss that Iida smiled at.

How to install and use IrfanView in Linux - Tutorial
How to install and use IrfanView in Linux - Tutorial
Updated: May 30, 2022
My Windows to Linux migration saga continues. We're still a long way off from finishing it, but it has begun, and I've also outlined a basic list of different programs I will need to try and test in Linux, to make sure when the final switch cometh that I have the required functionality. You can find a fresh bouquet of detailed tutorials on how to get SketchUp, Kerkythea, KompoZer, as well as Notepad++ running in Linux, all of them using WINE and successfully too, in my Linux category.
Today, my focus will be on IrfanView, a small, elegant image viewer for Windows, which I've been using with delight for decades now. It's got everything one needs, and often more than the competitors, hence this bold foray of using it in Linux despite the fact there are tons of native programs available. But let's proceed slowly and not get too far ahead of ourselves. After me.
As I said, it's majestic. A tiny program that does everything. It's fast and extremely efficient. When I posted my software checklist article, a lot of Linux folks said, well, you should try XnView instead. And I did, honest, several times, including just recently, which we will talk about in a separate article, but the endeavor reminded me of why I'd chosen IrfanView all those years back. And those reasons remain.
Then, I did play with pretty much every Linux image viewer out there. None is as good as IrfanView. It comes down to small but important things. For instance, in IrfanView, S will save a file, O will trigger the open dialog. Esc quits the program. Very fast. Most other programs use Ctrl + or Shift + modifiers, and that simply means more actions. I did once try to make GwenView use the full range of Irfan's shortcuts, but then I hit a problem of an ambiguous shortcut, wut. I really don't like the fact that hitting Esc takes you to a thumbnail overview mode. But that's what most programs do.
WINE configuration
The first step is to have WINE installed on your system. I am going to use the exact same method outlined in the SketchUp Make 2017 tutorial. I have the WINE repositories added, and I installed the 6.X branch on my system (at the time of writing).
IrfanView installation
Download the desired 32/64-bit version of the program and then install it. The process should be fast and straightforward. You will be asked to make file type association. You can do this, or simply skip the step, because it doesn't make any difference. You need to associate IrfanView as the default image viewer, if this is your choice, through your distros' file type management utility, whatever it may be.
And the program now works! In Plasma, on top of that, you can also easily pin the icon to the task manager.
Plugins and existing configuration(s)
Much like with Notepad++, you can import your existing workspace from a Windows machine. You can copy plugins into the plugins folder, and the IrfanView INI files into the AppData/Roaming folder. If you don't have any plugins, but you'd like to use some, then you will need to download the IrfanView plugins bundle, extract it, and then selectively, manually copy the plugins into the WINE installation folder. For instance, for the 64-bit version of the program, this is the path:
~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/IrfanView/Plugins
As a crude example, you may want to make IrfanView be able to open WebP files. In that case, you will need to copy the WebP.dll file into the folder above, and relaunch the program. Or you can copy the entire set of IrfanView plugins. Your choice, of course.
Conclusion
And thus, IrfanView is now part of our growing awesome collection of dependable tools that will make the Windows to Linux migration easier. I am quite sure the Linux purists will be angry by this article, as well as the other tutorials. But the real solution is to develop programs with equivalent if not superior functionality, and then, there will be no reason for any WINE hacks.
If you're an IrfanView user, and you're pondering a move to Linux, then you should be happy with this guide. It shows how to get the program running, and even import old settings and plugins. I've been using IrfanView in Linux for many years, and there have been no problems. That doesn't say anything about the future, of course, but then, if you look at what Windows was 10 years ago, and what it is now, it doesn't really matter. Well, that's the end of our mini-project for today. See you around. More tutorials on the way!
Cheers.

Another way I write my stories and ideas is by abusing my computer's basic notepad program. The poor thing has seen some nasty stuff, incomplete ideas and unoriginal ideas. My laptop died with a dozen or so unfinished stories. And while most of this I just write for fun, to read on my own when the WiFi is down or wathever, I have done some fairly interesting things on my computers.
Recently I also started doing some 3D models, inspired by great people here that do great low-poly stuff that resembles the 64 and 128 bit era of games I love so much. I'm still finding my own style but I love doing little 3D fellows, it's addicting. But that's a post for another day, today I just wanted to share some quick basic ideas I've been thinking about. I wanna post them here but like with the rest, I just wanna make sure they're readable. Like with my blog, I tend to ramble and go on tangents while writing my stories.
In a way, I do it for myself to give me a nice guide for when I eventually draw the characters and worlds. But wathever I end up writing or not, I always think of how it would look like for someone else if they were reading it online or on a magazine, stuff like that.
I'll share the stories in greater detail sometime next week, but here are the basic general ideas for these three stories. I'm quite proud of them and I even made tons of reference art for them. For one in particular I even made mock-ups for the protagonists as characters for a romhack/mod I'm constantly working on.
Enough rambling, I think.
The first story I wanted to share is about a "Witch" who recently moved out to a newly bought cabin by the mountains. Sorrounded by trees, wildlife and caves, the woman wanted to research nature by directly living around the beings she wanted to document and write extensive reports on. The world she lives in is full of interesting beings, magic and creatures of all sizes. She hopes to become an important figure in the world of scientific advancement and ecological preservation efforts. As soon as she has moved all her gear and notes, a corvid of some kind makes a nest within her home. She makes them her first subject and begins taking notes on the little bird's life, its diet and behaviour. She can't help but become friends with the bird as it builds a family right by her bedroom window. She expected the change in her life to lead to a peaceful and reclusive existence. But she would get more and more visits, some becoming permanent residents within her increasingly constricted home. Ever the optimist, the "Witch" takes every change as an opportunity to broaden the scope of her research. She would have the chance to closely examine life forms that not many have even seen up-close, while also dealing with sudden changes to what she imagined as a comfortable solitary life.
Next, a story about a strange cult of some sort. In an otherwise quiet and peaceful city, people have noticed strange pamphlets and signs posted all over the many public parks. Some officials call the displays vandalism, the local church calls it heresy and the public thinks it's just some sort of circus or similar performance. In truth, the papers were posted in hopes of recruiting members for a new religion, one where "the true sinners would finally face justice" and claiming to have a place where people would never feel rejected, neglected or abandoned. Where nobody would be taking advantage of their faith or their good will. A place for the people in need to enjoy a decent life. Many citizens dismiss it as some sort of mockery of their own beliefs. But nobody already religious takes it seriously enough to do anything about it. And the few who decide to find the new group to see if they were telling the truth would quickly see that not only was this new religion serious about their mission, but it already had dozens of followers from all over the country. Their devotion perplexed many who didn't understand their convictions or their methods. But anyone interested would witness true justice enacted by a deity who listened to their prayers.
Lastly, a story that touches on sensitive topics and tragedy. A mercenary who has worked her entire life to protect the hides of unsavory individuals gets tired of saving the lives of unworthy people and moves out of the city she grew up in, hoping to find different kinds of clients. On her way to a neighbouring Queendom, she bumps into a girl wearing barely anything other than a hood to cover her face and some sturdy-looking boots. The girl is on her way to a city close to the Queendom and after walking together for a while, she hires the mercenary to escort her safely to her destination. At first, the mercenary just can't understand why she asked for protection. The girl could use magic and was good with a sword. But soon it would become clear that she was being followed. Whoever she was, there were all kinds of creeps out to get her. And she notices none of them want to hurt the girl, they want to take her away alive. And because the mercenary couldn't have worse luck, whenever she did a good deed on her way to the Queendom and was about to be rewarded for her efforts, the girl's attackers would quickly scare away everyone with their violent and vulgar actions. Through her many attempted kidnappings, it was discovered she wasn't royalty, but that she had some kind of rare blood that they wanted to extract out of her. And the mercenary wanted two things out of the girl. She demanded to know what the girl really was and she wanted her to make up for all the rewards she missed out on because of the constant harrassment from her would-be abductors.
Any and all feedback is appreciated. Thanks for reading!

Cach Chuyen Doi Van Ban Loi Font Sang Unicode Bang Unikey

RAPS + CRAFTS #36: Bryson the Alien
1. Introduce yourself. Past projects? Current projects?
Peace y’all. It’s Bryson the Alien. I’m a rapper/producer based in Portland, Oregon since 2015. I was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. Past projects to check out: Hail Mary [2016], Juenethia [2019], BTA World 64 [2021], Casual Abductions (w/ U.A.P.) [2022], The Great Adventures Of… [2022], Pen, Wand, or Laser Gun? [2022] & Sun God [2023] (w/ Deep Thought), KUMA [2023] and Norman [2023]. I also have a slew of EP’s that dropped in between album cycles over the years so consider those side quests… I’m currently rolling out a tape that will be entirely produced by Blu called IN SPACE…
2. Where do you write? Do you have a routine time you write? Do you discipline yourself, or just let the words come when they will? Do you typically write on a daily basis?
Typically I prefer to write in my home/studio. If I’m on the road or out of town, and there’s records needing my pen, I’ll take time to piece together bars while in motion. No better inspiration than being out in the world observing and participating. My favorite time to write is when the Sun isn’t out — so either before dawn breaks or late in the thick of night. The beats/production is what inspires me to write the most. If there are no beats on the docket to write to and/or I’m not currently producing something to rap on, then I’m doing everything but writing. I find that my pen is the strongest when I’m able to step away for a bit and live life — then lock in heavy when a record presents itself to me.
3. What’s your medium—pen and paper, laptop, on your phone? Or do you compose a verse in your head and keep it there until it’s time to record?
I use the Notepad app to write now. My first tape Hail Mary [2016] was the last time I wrote the lyrics down on paper prior to laying the vocals. I go through too many songs and I'm always on-the-go, so it has been (way) easier to just keep it on a phone or device than carrying around paper or notebooks. In certain instances, I have (and will) compose lines in my head that eventually make their way to the record. It’s definitely a fun challenge to compose a verse strictly from memory and I’m not above doing that more in the future.
4. Do you write in bars, or is it more disorganized than that?
Nine times out of ten, my writing forms around the structure of the song already in place. However long that verse spot is — 8, 12, 16, 32 bars, etc. — that’s typically what I’ll bring to the table. A notable exception would be if the song is being produced/cooked up in real time, in the studio, and I’m able to alter or influence the structure. The production inspires the bars so much for me that it’s difficult to just write bars for the sake of writing because the lyrics (can) hit way differently depending on how they land on any given beat.
5. How long into writing a verse or a song do you know it’s not working out the way you had in mind? Do you trash the material forever, or do you keep the discarded material to be reworked later?
I can tell pretty immediately if a verse and/or song I’m working on is a dud. If I’m not progressively getting more excited and ultimately reaching that “flow state” where the creation feels organic and seamlessly comes together, then I’m definitely going the wrong way. It’s a difference between working on something that will clearly take more than a session to finish but you’re digging it rather than something you’re not feeling (at all) and are going through the motions to finish it just to finish it, for whatever reason. I’m really bad at reworking previous material and putting it elsewhere. To me, it feels like I’m wasting my time and could be putting fresh energy into making something new.
6. Have you engaged with any other type of writing, whether presently or in the past? Fiction? Poetry? Playwriting? If so, how has that mode influenced your songwriting?
I have certainly read my fair share of fiction, poetry and playwriting in life, but I haven’t spent any time writing in any of those mediums — especially not for the purpose of it being published and distributed. However, I would say that my music is inspired by those mediums and I would really love to dive into them more in the future. My songwriting would only benefit from engaging with other mediums of writing (more).
7. How much editing do you do after initially writing a verse/song? Do you labor over verses, working on them over a long period of time, or do you start and finish a piece in a quick burst?
I’ll edit a verse/song all the way up until recording it. I, for sure, will rehearse the verse for days/weeks leading up to actually tracking the vocals. For the most part, if I feel the verse/song has strong potential, then I’ll rap it for close friends/collaborators to make sure it’s not a fluke. Seeing someone react (or not) to the bars is all the confirmation I need.
8. Do you write to a beat, or do you adjust and tweak lyrics to fit a beat?
As previously stated, I prefer to write to a beat. Rarely will I tweak previously written material to fit some other beat — the verse would have to be crazy. I have constructed a beat around an already recorded verse and that song became “Shawn Michaels.”
9. What dictates the direction of your lyrics? Are you led by an idea or topic you have in mind beforehand? Is it stream-of-consciousness? Is what you come up with determined by the constraint of the rhymes?
I’d say it’s a mix of all of those things. Typically, I already come into the session with things on my mind (naturally) on account of what happened that day so far, or how my week/month/year has been playing out. I love using the production as a canvas to paint where I am at holistically at that moment, if possible. Other times, it’s more fitting to challenge myself and run with a concept or weave a narrative. If the song already has a title that sparks inspiration, I’ll definitely try and run with it, or if there’s a sample of some sort being used, I’ll attempt to match that energy. I’m big on concepts and direction when working on music because it helps me channel the creativity and not get lost in the sauce with a hundred different ideas which can slow (or even kill) the momentum when cooking up.
10. Do you like to experiment with different forms and rhyme schemes, or do you keep your bars free and flexible?
I’m a big advocate for developing forms and rhyme schemes when writing. I look at rapping like a jazz player playing their instrument… we’re all playing with the same notes (language, slang, references) but how we convey that in rap is (or should be) unique to the individual. I love just putting the instrumental on loop and seeing where things go initially and when the verse starts forming I can key in on how to expand on the initial schemes crafted.
11. What’s a verse you’re particularly proud of, one where you met the vision for what you desire to do with your lyrics?
I have a song called “New York” [2016] where I paint the picture of someone visiting New York on music business, falling for a girl they meet at an art gallery, and that blossoms into a relationship. The sample saying "New York," me describing the character’s day-to-day while there, and the interlacing of NY hip-hop references throughout the song makes this one of my proudest, most well executed verse(s), top-to-bottom.`
12. Can you pick a favorite bar of yours and describe the genesis of it?
“Late nite in the forest stirring the pot / No Martial (Marshall) Law, Forest Law / but shoutout my pops / Heavy in the rock scene but eye never went pop! / Eye see the shade as eye light up the spot”
— from “00VII” from SUPER SECRET (EP) [2018] When I initially heard the beat, the high-pitch strings and hard drums gave me a sinister (spooky) vibe off top. The idea immediately hit me to start that verse off with setting the scene (tone) by giving that visual of being in the forest late at night stirring a cauldron. I also love how I was able to throw in a Tekken reference, a De La Soul reference and that third eye scheme in there.
I feel like these first couple lines give the listener a profound view into who I am. It also serves as a temperature check to see if the listener is hip to the references I used.
13. Do you feel strongly one way or another about punch-ins? Will you whittle a bar down in order to account for breath control, or are you comfortable punching-in so you don’t have to sacrifice any words?
My intention when making songs is to only write and record songs that I am able to perform live (with NO backing vocal tracks), so whenever I punch in (which is super rare) it’s just to enunciate a bar better. Sometimes, when tracking vocals, the verse I laid sounds fire (to me), but there might be just one or two lines that I want to improve and not throw away an otherwise great take.
14. What non-hiphop material do you turn to for inspiration? What non-music has influenced your work recently?
VIDEO GAMES, COMIC BOOKS AND FOOD. The big three for me.
15. Writers are often saddled with self-doubt. Do you struggle to like your own shit, or does it all sound dope to you?
Up until I dropped my first tape, Hail Mary [2016], there was a four-year period [2012-2016] leading up to that where I was still finding who I was as an artist and how I wanted to present myself to the world. That time period was filled with much self-doubt and confusion — it was my “dark night of the soul,” as some would say. Kanye, DOOM, Lupe, Blu, The Cool Kids, and Charles Hamilton were some of the contemporary acts at the time that gave me the confidence to just do me and know that a fanbase would develop and gravitate towards me just for being me, eventually.
Everything I (Bryson the Alien) have available for folks to listen to and purchase I stand on it being high-quality. 100% satisfaction - money back guaranteed.
16. Audiologists can explain why so many people cringe when they hear their recorded voice played back to them. For MCs, the voice is crucial to how the writing is communicated to the audience. Are you satisfied with your voice? Does your rapper-voice match your regular voice, or do you affect it on the mic? Do you routinely rely on any mixing techniques (pitch adjustments, reverb, double-tracking, echo, etc.) to affect how your voice sounds on record?
I haven’t met a person who does like hearing their own bare voice on a playback - haha. I’ve grown to accept my voice and even love it over time through making music, performing, and finding a tone palette that works for me. I, for sure, affect my voice hella on records too in all types of ways as well as when I perform live, so that helps me detach in a sense from having any expectations in that regard.
17. Who’s a rapper you listen to with such a distinguishable style that you need to resist the urge to imitate them?
No one now but every aspiring artist, whether they admit it or not, finds their style by imitating their favorite acts and as they grow they evolve into their own (hopefully).
18. Do you have an agenda as an artist? Are there overarching concerns you want to communicate to the listener?
When I first came onto the scene with my debut, I had all sorts of lofty aspirations and ideas I wanted to communicate in my music. As I’ve grown and navigated this industry the past few years, I’ve come to accept that folks will gravitate to you on their own time or never — there’s no way to speed up what’s meant for you, it’s only a matter of time.
If anything, I feel my responsibility now as an artist is to stay true to myself/my sound and continue to challenge myself and to make sure the music is available in whatever format it needs to be for the listener (tapes, CDs, vinyl, streaming, etc.).
I wish everyone peace, wisdom, and understanding on their artistic journey. Inshallah.
RAPS + CRAFTS is a series of questions posed to rappers about their craft and process. It is designed to give respect and credit to their engagement with the art of songwriting. The format is inspired, in part, by Rob McLennan’s 12 or 20 interview series.

Rust: Die Grundlagen - 1.

Read the full article

Community tweaks, power-tools and additions for every Windows of the NT lineup (aka every Windows edition we got since XP and a few prior to such)
Before we start the Microsoft historical study up to Windows ME edition (starting in the next week or so hopefully), I wanted to highlight a couple of third-party fix-ups for those of whom want to take full advantage of Windows before they become completely market-irrelevant (if they aren't already that irrelevant even by their majority market share).
Providing them as a list with a few keywords attached per entry, as per my expertise.
Take Command Console
Notepad++
VLC
Kate
MPC
BackBlaze
f.lux
7Zip
ShutUp10
ShareX
Foxit PDF Reader
IrfanView
Cerbero Suite

Everything
MidnightCommander
StarDock ObjectDesktop software suite
HHD Software's Hex Editor
Rainmeter
PowerToys
16-bit compatibility for 64-bit with WineVDM
May delay the Microsoft and Apple historical research and study projects to focus onto my customized software ecosystem project first. More information to come out soon...
Czarina-VM, study of Microsoft tech stack history. Preview 1
Write down study notes about the evolution of MS-DOS, QuickBASIC (from IBM Cassette BASIC to the last officially Microsoft QBasic or some early Visual Basic), "Batch" Command-Prompt, PowerShell, Windows editions pathing from "2.11 for 386" to Windows "ME" (upgraded from a "98 SE" build though) with Windows "3.11 for Workgroups" and the other 9X ones in-between, Xenix, Microsoft Bob with Great Greetings expansion, a personalized mockup Win8 TUI animated flex box panel board and other historical (or relatively historical, with a few ground-realism & critical takes along the way) Microsoft matters here and a couple development demos + big tech opinions about Microsoft too along that studious pathway.
( Also, don't forget to link down the interactive-use sessions with 86box, DOSbox X & VirtualBox/VMware as video when it is indeed ready )

Yay for the four large tags below, and farewell.

time for 4AM math for those of y’all refreshing the results page nonstop and doomscrolling while the world burns down
which is under the cut cause this is long, but the question i asked is “how much of the uncounted ballots does biden need to scrape by with a victory, at minimum?”
(the answer depends on if he’s currently winning or not and it’s between roughly 50-65%)
feel free to yell at me if my math is off anywhere, but as things stand currently (and here’s the important part), Biden needs at minimum about 60-65% of the votes currently unaccounted for across most states, and nevada needs just under 50%. i’d say that’s not too horrible overall. it’s not stellar but it’s manageable, and that’s just a minimum.
an explanation:
row 1 = add all the currently-accounted votes together
row 2 = use algebra to determine what the missing percent of votes (roughly) is
row 3 = calculate the difference in votes
row 4 = subtract the uncounted votes from the difference to get how many can go wherever
row 5 = divide in two to get how many biden needs from row 4′s total
row 6 = add the minimum needed to the difference (row 3) to get the total number of minimum votes needed (optional if biden is ahead)
row 7 = divide by the total uncounted votes (PLUS ONE, very important!!) to get a decimal
multiply by 100 to get your percent
#my post#i did all of this on notepad and i'm really tired so it's not like... SUPER accurate probably#but it's a reasonable estimate if my math's not horrible#i had to redo pennsylvania's math cause i fucked up how to calculate the total but was only about 1-2% off#and it was higher over not lower.#i keep squinting at alaska cause my brain isn't convinced it's right but the calculator says 65% every time#(it's 64 and change but i'm exaggerating a bit#lemme live)#but i'm not unoptimistic soooo... yeah#i'm just waiting at this point but heyo that's pretty nice#politics#anyways the point is these are all hella fuckin reasonable to hit apparently but still. cross your gd fingers anyways. we need the luck.

This feature can be used efficiently when you have a very large number of identical changes to make but you don’t want every occurrence to be changed. To use this feature, press control and click on the different places that you want to edit. Support for multi-editing can be enabled by navigating to Settings > Preferences > Editing > Enable (Ctrl + mouse click/selection). So what else does Notepad++ have to offer? Let’s see below.

This means you can install Notepad++ on Ubuntu from the Software Center. It’s not the best way, but it’s definitely a convenient method for using Notepad++ on Linux.Īll Ubuntu versions have Snap enabled by default. So basically, you’re running Notepad++ through Wine, but without setting up Wine first. The Notepad++ snap package uses an embedded version of Wine that helps it run on Linux. How to install the real Notepad++ on Linux Though this Notepad++ Linux application isn’t natively developed for the Linux platform and actually runs on Wine, it’s now a command (or click) away from you. The good news is that Notepad++ is now (unofficially) available as a Snap package for Linux users. This is why Linux users have had to settle for Notepad++ alternatives. The problem with Notepad++ is that it’s exclusive to the Windows platform and the developer has repeatedly refused to develop it for Linux. The uncluttered experience and additional features make it an ideal choice for source code editing.
