I didn't need to have been previously familiar with Brotherhood's story to immediately understand that McDougal was correct for directly attacking Central. Seeing him go up against all the primary and secondary state alchemists as a means of introducing the protagonists (our "morally upright" leads) even though he was absolutely correct for identifying the locus of power of the nation as an oppressive force that must be destroyed was a harbinger for the reformist pro-state, pro-military bullshit that acts as the bedrock of Brotherhood's entire story.

To me, this seems like the kind of guy who could make his body stretch and distort unnaturally in his final boss form just to fuck with his Frenemies. And then act like he just lost a ranked COD match and he’s going down to silver or some shit as he’s literally being destroyed.

Hot monster Benny and anime Twink Benny just don’t do anything for me personally. Now a Benny that can pass fairly well for a person but seems just a bit off? Awesome.

Legitimately and unironically, as someone who's taken several art college character design classes taught by former Disney animators, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Bill humanizations where he's skinny. In fact, I always thought him being scrawny and twiggy with no muscle noodle limbs perfectly suited his character. A silly little triangle guy is not physically intimidating so it really works when this is reflected in his build whenever he's reimagined as a human, honestly the more he looks like Stan and Ford could easily beat the snot out of him the better lmao

Of course, body type diversity is great too, but I wish "twink Bills" got a little more credit especially when they successfully apply other principles of excellent character design. If your human Bill has a strong silhouette and his shape language is screaming triangles then you're doing everything right.

i've written a rant about this somewhere—i also feel very weird about hualian, as a queer relationship, being forced into a "submissive fem & dominant masc" role. one of my favorite things about hualian is that xie lian presents kind of feminine, and he's also a total jock—he's a martial god and geeks out over swords and combat. he's also totally romantically incompetent LOL.

hua cheng presents kind of masculine, being this brooding, scary, badass with all of the ghost world at his fingertips. but he's also a TOTAL simp lol!! very romantically submissive, he would literally rather die (again) than exhibit control over his relationship with xie lian.

they both have feminine and masculine traits, so i really admire how mxtx has characterized them to be queer in both sexuality and gender expression! i'm also privately not a fan of starember's depictions; i sometimes feel a bit uncomfortable hua cheng's exaggerated masculinity and dominance, and xie lian's fragility/femininity 😅 (i adore their artistic skill, this is just personal preference!)

hi! I'm doing great, thank you for asking! I haven't thought of a top 7 before so that's interesting to think about. hm...I guess it would probably be:

1. Haikyū!! (it's so simple but it's so good. I heard Furudate created it to get people into volleyball and I'm confident in saying that he succeeded. there's just something so refreshing about it, but underneath everything, it still manages to communicate a thoughtful message that where you are today is not where you'll be tomorrow, and that the journey brought on by your passion—while it may not get your end—still has meaning in its pursuit.)

2. The Husky and His White Cat Shizun by Meatbun doesn't Eat Meat (xianxia danmei. my god, I went into this novel thinking it was another low-hanging fruit enemies to lovers type bait where the ML is basically abusive and the MC is a weak backboned twink, but no. no the story had me screaming, sobbing, and begging the author to stop because it hurt too much. I was in tears and I was laughing and I was in love and I was praying for them to be happy so, so bad. it's actually insane. NOTHING will beat how Meatbun managed to make me reconcile Chu Wanning's cold exterior with his soft heart, and Mo Ran's past life with his current one. I was actually baffled by how many fucking revelations, foreshadowing, and plot twists (that made sense and didn't come out of left field entirely) this book managed to have. Meatbun expertly weaved humor, tragedy, horror, mystery and romance all into one misleadingly-packaged book and I feel delightfully bamboozled.)

3. Turning by 쿠유 (Korean historical bl novel. Still reading this one, but the deep unspoken trust the MC and ML have for each other is really awe-inspiring, and they're also very competent at what they do. The relationships with their subordinates and allies are also really heartwarming. The plot is sufficiently interesting as well, and not just something cobbled together to make the characters kiss lol—not that that's bad intrinsically, but it can get old after a while.)

4. Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rock Riordan (everyone knows this one. I love it because I grew up reading it, and then reading it to my sister out loud with the voices and everything. I love an MC that just consistently doesn't know what he's doing and yet sees things through to the end, and whose motto is just "fuck it, fuck this, and fuck you". and again Percy and Annabeth have that "bantering duo who trust and balance each other out and are also very, very good at what they do" type relationship that I'm such a sucker for.)

5. Bleach by Tite Kubo (one of the Big 3 manga serialized back then. I'm down bad for the art, he's one of my favourite mangaka in terms of art style, and also it's nostalgic. I grew up watching ichigo fight through impossible odds with just his "fuck you don't touch my people" mentality. are you starting to see a pattern with me and protective, headstrong MCs? the cast of side characters are all pretty memorable, despite its growing size down the line and again, i love their designs. I know people gripe a lot about the plot and continuity errors, but I enjoyed it regardless—except for the accursed ending and Epilogue Dad Haircut..)

6. Montmorency by Eleanor Updale (victorian crime fiction novel. I was sent this as compensation in, like, 5th grade when the Scholastic Fair delivered the wrong order to me. I didn't expect to like it but it was surprisingly a good standalone read. i used to reread it loads but it's been about a decade now so some details are blurry, but i am very fond of it still.)

7. A Quiet Place (horror movie, though for me it's less horror and more of a family-centric movie. I'm awful with horror, I'm such a wuss, but this movie was so good with its character dynamics and the ending was so fitting that I couldn't help but rewatch it and have it engrained in my head. I haven't watch the other movies in this series and tbh I fully believe the first movie is sufficient on its own, not to say the other suck, I just have no urge to watch them. this movie was such a palate cleanser for me in cinema.)

Sexyman criteria I go into (from the Sexypedia):

Some are either I am "___-coded", have hints of some of these tropes, or I am related to things here (due to me being an actual person and not a character).

Androgynous: Characters who are either genderless, or partly male and partly female in appearance.

Animal Theming: A strong association or connection to an animal. (I'm a moth therian.)

Artsy: Sexymen who appeal to the theater kid in us: whether they paint, make music, or perform, they’ve got a flair for the arts for sure.

Bait: Some sexymen emerge organically. Others are created by design. The creators of these characters are aware of this phenomenon, and deliberately design characters to be picked up by sexyman culture. (I wanted to look and act like a sexyman.)

European: A sort of broader variation of the British trope, for Sexymen that are Russian, Italian, French, etc. (I'm Russian.)

Chaoslord: Characters who are strongly associated with themes of chaos, are nearly always trolls, and almost certainly rely heavily on random/quirky style humor (hey, nothing wrong with that!).

Deadpan Snarker: Sexymen that use a lot of deadpan humor, are snippy with others, or both.

Distinctive Voice: In many cases sexymen have extremely distinctive vocal performances that are virtually always considered by the fandom to be a major component of their sex appeal.

Quotable Catchphrase(s): Many sexymen say something quotable that the fandom picks up on. (I say shiz all the time and I have a slogan.)

Distinctive Speech Patterns: Characters that speak in easily recognizable ways - using slang from certain decades, unusually posh wording, archaic or simple grammar, overusing abbreviations or barely using them... Especially common in media without voice acting, or depending on exaggeration. (I talk more eloquently and old-timey.)

Distinctive Laugh: Characters who have a tendency to laugh frequently and/or have a distinctive, iconic laugh.

Duality: Think Jekyll and Hyde. Sometimes the character has an existing evil side, sometimes the fans make it happen.

Egotistical: Characters who think they are hot shit, basically. Expect them to brag about their accomplishments and act like they are the next coming. Might have a real "would date their clone" energy, which... might explain some things.

Gay: Characters who are canonically LGBTQ+. (I'm transmasc xenogender aroace.)

Questionable LGBT Rep: A character that embodies a negative LGBTQ+ trope or stereotype such as predatory gay man/lesbian, gay-coded villain, etc. (I kind of embody "AroAces are evil and narcissistic and not human".)

Intelligence: A common trait of sexymen, whether canonically present or added/accentuated by the fandom, is marked intelligence, especially of the clever calculating manipulative chessmaster kind. especially common in chaoslords and anyone with "well-dressed class British tophat twink" vibes. (I can usually manipulate people into doing things for me.)

Smartdumb: Characters that are both intelligent and stupid at the same time, usually being "book smart yet street dumb" - for example, being an expert in their field, but lacking common sense or basic knowledge of the world they live in. (I have problems with social skills and I am more old-timey and a bunch of modern things just do not make sense to me.)

Knifemurder: Characters who like to kill people, usually by stabbing. (I talk about murder a lot and act like I've killed people before.)

Magnificent Bastard: As per TV Tropes, a Magnificent Bastard is a "villain (or morally gray character at best) portrayed as confident, charming schemers who thinks on their feet, outsmarts their competitors with style and grace, and remains graceful even in the event of defeat".

Neurodivergent: For characters that are canonically neurodivergent in some way, usually autistic/anxiety but it can be anything. (I might have autism, generalized anxiety disorder. I'm a maladaptive daydreamer and a plural system)

Neurodivergent Coded: For when a character has really strong HINTS at being neurodivergent, but nothing is ever confirmed in canon. (I'm not diagnosed but I'm basically neurodivergent.)

Pale Twink: Skinny young pale dudes. Usually taller than average. Not much facial or body hair. Doesn't have to be white, just pale; this is an archetype of many Japanese anime characters. (I barely go outside.)

Parental Issues: Character who have serious conflict with their parents and/or were abused by them

Demonic: Characters that are either demons or associated with occult/satanic imagery (I'm the Daydream Demon for Hell's sake-)

Retro: Sexymen that are heavily associated with "retro" things, such as old 1920s style cartoon animation, radios, and 8-bit arcade games. (I'm a 1920s type of guy!)

Villain: Characters who are the bad guys of their stories. (I am very villain-coded.)

Morally Grey: Characters who aren't necessarily evil, but aren't exactly good either.

Villain Protagonist: A villain who is the protagonist or main character. It's fairly self-explanatory.

Well-Dressed: Sexypeople who wear overly intricate or fanciful outfits.

Suitguy: Characters who typically wear formalwear, specifically suits. Often includes waistcoats, top hats, bowties, and pinstripes. Other neckwear may also be worn.

Hatguy: Characters that wear fancy hats like top hats and fedoras as prominent part of their design (I wear a fedora a lot.)

watch in AWE ladies & gentlemen, as i paint myself as a massive hypocrite

not like i'm really designing stanley to be super pretty & handsome but-

so,, in the beginning, my sibling designed a stanley that i fatefully gave a narrator to! so when they made a narrator design themselves, it seemed only befitting that i again, supply & give that boy a stanley;

thus, for my sibling's narrator Evelyn, a narrator turned multiverse overseer after his game was destroyed by dataminers fucking around, i gave him a stanley that narrowly survived the destruction - but not unscathed;

behold the derogatorily dubbed " Glitch, " who went from having a face to Not having a face,

( his ruined texture face based off of The Theater creepypasta's swirly head man, because i thought it was really cool at the time )

...but i'm not very proud of " Glitch " these days; i admittedly kind of made him on a whim a couple years back, vaguely based off of popular fan designs i enjoyed, & didn't put a lot of time or effort putting any special twist on his design beyond... the obvious,

if i had to redesign him now, i'd make him look MORE akin to a broken game model, more OBVIOUS than just the little face quirk. & i'd just use the GIVEN stanley design that the game gives us.

that goes for just designing the man as is as well.

FEW people these days seem to embrace or even refer back to stanley's canon design, painfully basic though it may be, the fact remains that he HAS a design already. it's kind of odd seeing so many people diverge so FAR from it, changing the basics of turning his curly hair straight or going AS far as to making him an anime-looking little boy. & i get why, to some degree - AT LEAST regarding the simpler aspects of switching up the design a little bit for interpretation's sake - adding a Bit more variety when your character IS just the most basic white guy alive. nothing really wrong with that, i'm dabbling in the same in other fandoms, but going SO FAR in making that Middle Aged Man a magical hot anime guy to go with your magical hot anime " Old Man,, " makes me a bit sick to think of tbh!

of course, saying all this & wondering " oh gee why don't people stick with canon more... " i'm heavily tainted by bias in thinking @tomiechu's stanley is one of the best alternative designs ever & the ONLY one that could ever go with my narrator.

NOT like his design or attitude has gone terribly far FROM the given path, & he CERTAINLY isn't a little handsome pixie twink boy. he's just stanley ❤️ & the one i'd rather fall back on ANYWAY rather than make a design of my own. look at him

How to make an vivziepop character starterpack: Imagine a skinny demon twink guy in a suit with the most garish colored and detailed that makes any animator cry while having to animate them, he is supposedly an unrepentant asshole that does fucked up shit but turns out to be a softie that did nothing wrong and was simply trying his best since he’s tormented by an obvious evil villain who’s responsible for all the fucked up shit in first place, If female then it’s either a sexy bimbo or sparkledog furry who’s just there to make the twink guy to look good and nothing else because a viv female have no role beyond being an accessory to the male characters

And if anyone complains about it, scream on Twitter until the whole world is afraid to say anything to you ever again.

So many men are written as tops and doms by women, because the majority of straight women (bi women are also "guilty"* of this, but less often) are bottoms and often submissive ones. There's nothing wrong with this exactly, but for characters that, to me as a queer, are SOOOO queer coded (it's never on purpose but they still are) it's weird to constantly read about them in fic through a heterosexual lens.

Like Dabi and Shigaraki, whether you think they be queer coded or not (anime Dabi DEFINITELY isn't, but we don't talk about him), just don't read as tops to me AT ALL. Not all men are going to be dominant tops, and like it's fanfic so it doesn't matter and we can all just do as we please, but I'd love to see more people play around with this a bit.

Give me some submissive top Hawks, because obedience is literally his thing! Write me a Twice that WHIMPERS because I know that man has it in him to be babygirl. Or maybe some dominant bottom Shigaraki, who won't be doing ANY of the work, but he'll be calling all the shots thank you. I mean Shigaraki and Dabi literally both started the series as bratty, fuckable, little twinks. I know I'm viewing them through the lens of a tranny and a fag, so my perception is just as skewed by my experiences as everyone else's, but are you telling me those two wouldn't at least be open to a little pegging?

I struggle not to read Dabi as a total brat, so when people write him all suave and forceful I literally start laughing, because I think about the guy who complains about getting carsick and pouts all the time and I'm like...no girl. Of course, anime Dabi has done IRREPARABLE damage to Dabi's overall character by changing his looks (including height) and attitude. If you're picturing anime Dabi when you write those fuckboy fics then honestly you're dead right.

I mean, this is all coming from a trans masc top, so obviously I'm also looking for what I like in fic, and even find myself reading about characters who I can't see bottoming regularly AS BOTTOMS, just because that's what I like (of course, I'd bottom for Spinner but that's because I'm Down Bad), but like...it would be cool if more people were open to some variety.

*I didn't have a better word than guilty in my brain but like... what's there to be guilty of? Writing and reading shit that gets you off? If that makes you guilty then give me the death penalty judge.

Mariano had decided to go out that Friday. He didn't have work in the morning for once, and Bastian had been getting onto him about being a seventy-year-old in a thirty-three-year-old's body. He'd gone to a place he'd heard good things about--it was loud, and the lights were too much.

The drinks were nice though, and the huge, ruby-horned, golden-eyed bartender was handsome and charming. Maybe he would make this a regular thing. He'd even met a sweet vampire. The blond twink had body glitter on, likely from head to toe, and her green eyes lit up when he'd responded to her flirting.

Brian, her name was. She'd let him text a selfie with her to Bastian, and he'd let her send one of them to her boyfriends. She'd also let him pay for the taxi back to her place.

It was so cozy. He took in the restored, renewed antique cellos and violins hung up on the walls, with flowers and animals carved delicately into the outer layers of the wood and varnished over with love. He saw the worn leather jacket that hung near the doorway, underneath a motorcycle helmet. He saw crutches, and what had to be a backup wheelchair, kept near the couch in a corner.

She'd led him to a bedroom, furnished with string lights and tapestries over the walls and a fluffy bedspread on the queen-sized bed. A teal television sat on a dresser, the perfect height for movie nights. And now her hands cupped Mariano's face as he knelt above her, propped up on his elbows and knees.

Their lips pressed together, hers chilled but tasting like strawberries. It lingered on his own lips when they pulled apart. He'd have to ask her what brand the lip gloss was. Cute, freckled cheeks were flushed. Her sharp indicator teeth were bright in the dim, warm light when she beamed up at him.

"God--don't take this the wrong way, you smell so good right now." Brian said, pulling Mariano down for another kiss. "Like it's not a cologne, and you don't smell afraid. Do you have magic or something?"

"I do." Mariano said, one hand slipping up under Brian's head, his fingers threading into her hair. "It's pretty strong though, it might be off-putting."

"Can I taste?" One of Brian's hands dropped to his neck, and Mariano felt his pulse more strongly. "If it's not my cup of tea, I can always get a different taste of you." Her smile shifted into something more flirtatious. "I'm really good with my mouth."

Mariano laughed, kissing her again, soft and sweet. "That sounds good to me."

Brian brightened up, wiggling to sit up more against the head of the bed. "Okay! Turn around, shirt off if you want. Just lean against me." She tapped his shoulders, looking him over appreciatively. "You don't gotta worry about crushing me either."

"Alright, alright." Mariano said, raising up onto his knees to tug his shirt and binder off over his head. Brian's eyes lit up when she saw him, hands reaching to feel up his sides. He lowered himself down, shifting so that his shoulders met Brian's chest. Cool fingers drifted over his temples and neck, brushing his hair aside. "You don't have to be gentle."

"I think I'll be gentle anyway." Brian whispered, cold lips ghosting over his skin again. Mariano couldn't help the shudder that raced through him. He let out a sigh when Brian opened her mouth and then opened it wider.

He felt the brush of two thin teeth as they were brought forward. One of Brian's arms looped around his front, hand coming to rest affectionately on his cheek. Not a moment later, two sparks of pain erupted from his neck.

Mariano hummed, eyes fluttering closed as Brian's fangs sunk deeper, slow and steady. She'd obviously been doing this for a while. The moment her teeth had pierced the artery, she withdrew and locked her mouth around the wound.

His head started to spin as Brian's thumb began to trace along his cheekbone. She hummed against him, slender hand starting to support his head more and more. Static began to fill Mariano's ears. The soft noises that Brian made started to fade. The warm lighting started to dim. The room began to spin.

The world dropped away and Mariano fell.

"Hey. Open your eyes for me." Brian's voice cut through everything. It was low and steady, and Mariano realized that he wasn't leaning against the sweet vampire anymore. He was lying down and his feet were propped up on some pillows. "Mariano?"

He groaned, managing to open his eyes as Brian's fingers slid through his hair. "I'm...I'm awake." He mumbled, meeting Brian's eyes. She was sitting on the edge of the bed, her hip pressed against his side.

"Good! You had me worried. You fainted, but I didnt take much--do shots give you trouble or something?"

Mariano laughed, quiet and warm. "No, no, needles are fine. I don't mind them." He reached to take her hand, squeezing it when she threaded their fingers together. "Heard it can just happen sometimes, though."

Brian laughed in return, nodding. "Guess it was just a random spell then, huh?" She reached to slide her fingers through his hair, pulling a quiet, relieved sound from him. "Well, you're not in a state to make out or anything now, so how's a movie sound? I can make popcorn, get you a soda. You can stay the night too, if you want."

Mariano brought her hand to his lips, kissing her knuckles. "That...that all sounds very nice, yes."

Brian stood, kissing his temple before fluttering out of the room. "I'll be right back then, 'kay? Text your boyfriend, and I'll let Elliot know he's evicted for the night." A quick text to Bastian updating him on the plan was all he had to do, and then he relaxed as the sounds of playful arguing in the kitchen drifted in.

I know I bitch a lot about the genshin impact school of character designs, but I know why they're so nothing. Rigging each model is expensive and time consuming, so using the same basic body shape is easier and allows for different characters to be released and animated at the speed that a gacha game demands. THAT SAID, I wish more games did what Dragalia Lost did, which is have a basic shape for all characters but have it a very simple chibi design, so even though they all have the same rigs you can get a lot of diversity out of it.

Like, the same model could be used for thin military ladies, curvy valley girls, or short blacksmith women:

But also, similar character archetypes had enough variation. For example, 'buff, dark-skinned man':

These guys are all long-haired katana users from the same region of the world. But you can tell which one is the soft-hearted clan leader, which one is his dutiful retainer, and which one is the dancer.

(okay I know Valentine's Addis is a bow unit, but shhh he still knows how to use a katana) And even the weird, pale nerd characters!

All varying levels of 'unhinged', but you can tell which one is the nobleman and detective who is overall a chill dude, which one is the shady weapons maker, and which one studies dark magic with no regard for his personal safety.

And these are both young, blonde, unhappy-looking girls:

...but one is a normal girl with a nervous disposition while the other is troubled by darker, otherworldly things. Don't get me wrong, DL has made some character design choices that I hate. For example, letting male characters be old but having the two female characters over 50 have magical reasons for being young again.

One of these women has halted her aging through magic, the other has a reason so stupid for looking this way that made me want to stop playing completely.

The same event also told us that this beautiful man (introduced in an event half a year prior) was killed off screen, never to be playable, so yeah, it was really a low point in the game's lifespan if you ask me.

But with all of its missteps, they still gave us buff men, hot ladies, strange twinks and cute kids... who all share a rig with a vegetable fairy.

But also DL is dead now because it made like $2 while Mihoyo is raking in cash every year so :shrug:
