So I’m going through my facebook and getting rid of people who I don’t need in my life (fascist, nazi, grandparents, etc) and let me tell you I’m so enraged. There are so many people who I just want to take their Bibles and hit them on the head with it because that’s what they must be doing with them instead of reading.

Thinking about how amazingly beautiful Ted Neeley was as Jesus in “Jesus Christ Superstar” (1973). Not to mention his voice, his screen presence.

I was just listening to the original (1970) album while late-night-working and pondering on how Ian Gillan, while his vocals are spectacular, is still #notmyjesus. In spite of being cast as the original, he is still Ian Gillan more than anyone else. Ted Neeley, on the other hand was born for this role (as far as I know he STILL plays it despite being over 70). He's just... well, look at him.

Anyway, he's responsible for the idea of Jesus in my head since I was little, and the image has sticked with me permanently. I've never quite been able to see Jesus as loving and approachable, because for me he was firstly and foremostly this nervous, fragile young man. Majestic, dramatic. I would not want to irritate him. While I'm on it - JCS is such a masterpiece! I had almost forgotten the unparalelled beauty of that music, those wild, poignant lyrics. Ahh.
