My recurring nightmare: I have a pet alligator and I'm keeping it VERY irresponsibly in a puppy playpen in my room and it horrifies me but everyone in my life is stoked about this alligator and encourages me to bring it places like the movies and to play with my two-year-old niece. Somebody is going to get hurt, this alligator cannot be safely kept like this, and yet everybody thinks it's so great that I have this alligator and they see nothing wrong with it.

it’s fun to think about how creative choices made to address practical needs remain defining features of the star trek franchise long after the original need is gone, such as:

captain’s log voiceover at the beginning of each act to catch up new arrivals in the audience who flipped over from another channel during the commercial break

sparklezap device because they didn’t have a shuttle set yet and anything with models and effects was expensive

paint or bits of latex on the face = star trek alien because that’s what the 60s/late 80s would allow on a tv budget, to the point where more alien-looking aliens in later series feel out of place

125,000 star trek fanfics on ao3 because twenty-four seasons of 4:3 aspect ratio made everybody look like they were going to make out at any moment to stay in the same frame

A BTAS style title card for the DP reboot/au that lives in my head rent free

if I were in charge of a DP animation reboot and I had an unlimited budget, I would make significant and meaningful style changes. The basic change: everything that happens in the 'human world' would be black and white, and only the ghosts would be in color.

I've been calling it the "Pleasantville AU" in my head, though it's really not an AU as much as a lore-relevant stylistic overhaul reboot.

Humans and everything in the human world is black and white; ghosts are full technicolor

Danny, as a halfa, is still mostly black and white, but his eyes are green and his skin is. Skin colored idk. (Also black sclera because it's cool shh this is my fantasy reboot au)

The more powerful a ghost is, the more colorful it is. Moreover, the most powerful ghosts are capable of changing their coloration to "hide" in the human realm

Humans can't see colors well, and most recording equipment can't "capture" the image of a ghost well. You need special equipment to see them clearly and special cameras to photograph them

Places where ghosts have had a prolonged presence or big impact start to "bleed" colors. If you get wounded by the ghost, you get splashed with color (will fade to white "if you take care of it")

The Guys In White find these colorful, ghost-touched areas and "clean"/bleach them

The longer Danny hides, the more his presence in Amity Park starts to affect things

I didn't love the "Sam is responsible for Danny getting ghost powers" storyline in the OG, so in the reboot Danny was alone when he had his accident and he didn't tell anyone. He thinks he's a straight up ghost/is becoming a ghost and will eventually become evil (in this au becoming a ghost is thought to be a long term process a la vampirism. This isn't actually the case but I love "bad scientist Fentons" so that's their prevailing theory)

(He'll tell them eventually but I love identity shenanigans so I think it's more interesting if he hides it from them for a bit while also interacting with them as Phantom on occasion)

Oh yeah, because Phantom is mostly black and white, he's the first ghost that a lot of people are able to see.

His coloration is the driving force for the Fentons to declare him "the worst ghost", because they accuse him of trying to pretend to be human.

His coloration is a big reason why other ghosts dislike/distrust him, too, because he looks too human

The Vlad is a halfa reveal happens way later and way differently in this reboot; Danny meets him and knows he's "ecto-touched", but the Vlad = Plasmius moment would have more impact if Danny has had interactions with Vlad before, imo. Anyway I have Plans(TM) for Vlad but I'll leave it at that for now😏

There is an old daguerrotype in Hiram's study, dated 1868, neatly kept in a case in one of his bureau drawers. The same drawer holds a stash of letters, with worn-out paper damaged by saltwater and time. There should be more letters, so many more, but saltwater and time are not easy to escape. And yet, some things do. Some things can, in fact, endure saltwater and time.

Hiram remembers every line in every letter, and the daguerreotype is exactly where it should be.

Valicer Multiamory Month, Day Eleven: Home (Multiplayer Wonderland AU)

The inexorable march of Multiamory March (har har) (by @polyamships) continues onward today -- this time with another one of the alternative prompts subbed in for the regular one! Because I couldn't really think of anything I wanted to do with the given Day 11 prompt, "pining" --

But when I took another look at the alternative prompts, my brain immediately latched onto "home" and went "what about a story about the Multiplayer Wonderland group exploring their newly-built house together?" :D And so here we are, with the fivesome of Alice, Smiler, Victor, Victoria, and Emily doing just that. Shout-out to Chapter 5 of PlayerPiano's "Love Stories" Corpse Bride fanfic for what I'm sure was the subconscious inspiration for this idea! Hope you all enjoy!

“It’s wonderful,” Alice said, running her fingers along the ivy pattern in the parlor wallpaper. “I know we all had a hand in designing the place, but – there’s seeing your house on paper, and then seeing it in real life.”

“I know,” Smiler agreed, patting a plush couch. “This is amazing.” They glanced over at Victor with a little smirk. “Dare I ask how much it cost?”

“No more than my parents could afford,” Victor replied, smirking back. “Trust me, they barely felt us dipping into their wallet. In fact, Mother hinted that she could have done with us spending more.”

“Really? This place is already pretty damn big.”

“You’ve seen my family’s mansion – Mother wanted us to go even bigger.” He rolled his eyes. “Probably hoping to show off just how much canned fish could buy to the Everglots.”

“To be fair, it buys a lot – certainly more than we could, before my marriage to you,” Victoria remarked, looking around. “Though, actually, I’m pretty sure my mother is also pleased we live somewhere so big as well. Perhaps it softens the blow of me taking such a step down in status.”

“Well, bully for them,” Alice said, folding her arms. “If it stops them giving us grief about Smiler, Emily, and myself living with you, I’m all for them thinking you’re into conspicuous consumption.”

“Perhaps they just think we’ll be better hidden away from society in all these rooms,” Emily joked, bouncing in place. “Oh, but it is so nice for all of us to have a bit of space to ourselves! I really didn’t expect you to actually give me a room just for dancing!”

“We know how much you love it,” Victoria said, smiling as she looped her arm through Emily’s. “And if I got a room for sewing, and Victor for his piano, and Alice for her drawing, and Smiler for their chemistry…”

“Which, I love how you put that up in the turret,” Smiler said, grinning. “Makes me feel like a wizard in a tower.”

“Which is ironic, given that was always Victor’s favorite game to play back when we were small,” Alice chuckled. “But yes, it really is lovely to have a space that’s all mine. And a house that’s all – ours.” She blinked some sudden wetness out of her eyes, then laughed. “Certainly blows my initial sketches out of the water.”

“To be fair, Alice, you drew those when we were eight,” Smiler reminded her, ruffling her hair. “And when there was only three of us to worry about.”

“And it was still a very nice house,” Victor agreed. “Though...I wouldn’t be opposed to this one making its way into Wonderland now.”

Alice grinned as the vines on the wall sprouted rainbow-colored flowers. “I’ll see what I can do.”

the boy's guide on satisfactory revenge - chapter 2 (final chapter!)

omggg hi haha i didn't think i'd actually ever end up posting this one like ever i thought it'd b stuck on WIP limbo despite my clear vision... but yeppp it's here! this chapter is from the pov of sam w/ similar prose 2 the first chapter... n it does get a bit more graphic since it leads up 2 the little fake trailer tyler made! oops haha. still has music recs. link to chapter one here and link to chapter two here!
