I created both THIS YEAR and tbh these are the OCs i've rotated in my head the most

Yuriko was the result of me discovering a new ship i really liked and being so obsessed i decided to make a fankid OC for it (celeste x byakuya from danganronpa) and ngl not to toot my own horn or whatever but i think i'm VERY clever for makeighlyn's whole concept as a character (she's a girls flash game mascot from the 2000's who's website acted as a front for a cult and she somehow managed to enter the real world and now works as a demon slayer)

which oc would you say was your ‘oc of the year’? (because you made them this year, they had the most development this year, or you just feel like it)

Ngl this is slightly more emotion than i usually do for my art style and ngl it feels so uncanny seeing lynn's jaw actually go down when she opens her mouth and not just have her facial features plastered onto her like i'm putting stickers on a water bottle

Also yes, the fact that makeiighlyn's spraycan says "bitch repellent" is a reference to that one vine...

Ngl it was relatively easy to think of pony names for these characters since i've had the idea to make this for a while so i've had a lot of time to think about it lol

For yuriko: i chose the name "flawless lace" because in her regular form, i specifically chose the name "yuriko" for her because it means "perfect" so i wanted to try and include that aspect into her pony name. Some considered names for her were "perfect storm" and "lily lace" since the "yuri" part of her name means "lily" (though i decided against it bc i remembered that's the name of an actual pony in MLP...) the markings on her legs are meant to sorta mirror the stockings she wears in her usual form

For sprite: i chose the name "baby carrot" simply because that was a actual name i considered for her normal form before i decided on "sprite" (which is kinda funny since a big part of sprite's character is that she likes apples.....a food that is basically as different from carrots as it can get) she is a goat-alicorn hybrid because she's normally a deltarune OC, specifically a fankid of kris and ralsei; with the latter being a prince from the dark who is also a goat monster

For carrie: a big part of her backstory is that she named herself, she's literally a carrot that decided to be human one day (...or pony, in this case) and is trying to fit into civilsation as best she can; so i tried to give them a pony name that sorta fits that, and so i named them "carrot mulch" because i could totally imagine her trying to introduce themself to someone and doing that one trope in movies where the main character doesn't want to share their real name and just looks around the room for things to call themself lol. I also decided to make her a blank-flank since she probably hasn't spent that long a time as a pony and therefore wouldn't have a cutie mark despite appearing fully grown

For makeighlyn i feel like my choices are pretty straight forward, the character is a girls' flash game mascot created by a christian fundamentalist cult who somehow escaped into the real world and now works as a demon slayer so i decided to give her a name and cutie mark that reflects that. The only thing that i feel is worth mentioning is that i find it interest how the amount of pink in her design makes the blue in her hair look a lot darker...either that or i might've accidentally hue-shifted it or something

Choese is another pretty straightforward one, he's a flirty cheese-themed mouseboy so i gave him a heart-shaped cheese cutie mark and named him "gouda squeaks" because he's a fucking rodent. (Sidenote: i love smoked gouda so goddamn much omg)

Lastly for crystalline i decided to make her a breezie since she's normally a fairy and y'know....breezies are just the MLP equivalent to fairies....i also decided to name her "fee-fee breezie" since breezies usually have really cutesy names in the show (some of them straight up have references to their species in their names), the "fee-fee" part of her name is short for "feelings" since crystalline is an emotion fairy

Y'know when i first created crystalline back when i was like, 10 i was going through a phase where i just VIOLENTLY hated things for no reason (specifically things from MLP such as the vampire fruit bats, flurry heart and the manta hawk from the IDW comics) to the point that i would make them out of polymer clay JUST so i can make my pony toys kill them (i was a weird kid, needless to say) one of these things being the breezies....so ngl i feel like the fact that i made crystalline a breezie is really fucking ironic lol

CHEAT SHEET/ EXPLANATION FOR EACH CHARACTERS' TEAMS UNDER THE CUT

Let's start with yuriko, her team consists of a gallade, a combee, a bisharp, a rookidee, a gothitelle and her beloved furfrou. Since chess is a BIG theme to yuriko's character, i wanted each pokemon to sorta reflect each piece in a game of chess (minus the king bc i ran out of room). Combee is the pawn because in chess: pawns are the weakest piece and are kinda there to protect the queen in a way, similarly to how worker bees in a beehive tend to do stuff for the queen (not to mention that pawns actually CAN become queens in a game of chess, similarly to how normal bee larvae can grow up to become a queen if fed enough). Bisharp and rookidee are the bishop and the rook for obvious reasons, gallade is the knight and gothitelle is the queen (though tbh i also partially chose those two bc in yuriko's usual form, she is a danganronpa fan character, specifically a celesgami fankid and i kinda associate those two characters with those pokemon...albeit with celeste it's more or less the gothitelle line IN GENERAL) lastly i chose a furfrou bc that's the closest i can get to yuriko's goofy ass dog, gambit.....there are no borzoi pokemon i'm afraid

Also ngl whenever i hear gothitelle's name, my mind immediantly goes to cottonelle and i can't help but think of emo toilet paper...

Next with makeighlyn: her team consists of a sylveon, a galarian ponyta, an indeedee, a porygon, a spiritomb and an absol. I imagine that since makeighlyn's whole lore is that she's a flash game mascot turned demon slayer, she was probably given a sylveon, ponyta and indeedee by her creators (the sylveon representing her pet cat, angie) but ended up finding and catching a porygon after she gained sentience; when she became a demon slayer, the souls of all the demons she killed formed into a spiritomb and she caught that too and lastly she caught an absol to sorta let the demons know she's coming since y'know.....absol is said to be a bad omen....also yes, makeighlyn IS wearing may's contest outfit, it was easier than just thinking up an original pokemon universe design for her

For myrtle: her team consists of a zorua, a cubone, a banette, jirachi, a duskull and a zubat. Tbh i didn't really put that much thought into her team, i just picked the edgiest pokemon i could find....though with cubone and banette i just picked them bc they're infamous for having really dark pokedex entries and are a common sight in the more horror-oriented side of the fandom, and also i picked zubat bc it's the first pokemon i think of when i think of team rocket (aside from meowth, obviously) typically i prefer not to include legendary/mythical pokemon whenever i give a character a pokemon team for the sake of believablity though i just couldn't resist giving myrtle jirachi considering how much it fits with her backstory (normally, myrtle's story is that she randomly discovered she had reality-bending powers one day and abused her power so much it caused a dimensional merge; though since this is pokemon and humans don't have powers, i feel it makes more sense if she caught jirachi and abused it's wish granting powers)

Lastly for renée: her team consists of an altaria, a castform, a smeargle, a snom, a munchlax and a bruxish. Tbh i only really gave her an altaria and a castform as a sort of callback to the fact that renée is a bird (though i had to make her human for the sake of this challenge), specifically a pigeon-cloud nymph hybrid; so i gave her a cloud bird and a weather creature! Since renée is more or less a 2014 tumblr-esque hipster (a bit millenialcore i daresay), i gave her a bruxish bc i've literally never seen a single person who likes bruxish (i personally don't really care for it either way but like....LOOK AT THIS THING!!! IT LOOKS LIKE IT SHOULD BE HANGING OUT WITH THE BEATLES IN PEPPERLAND OR SOME SHIT)

Anyway, i also gave renée a munchlax bc tbh that pokemon SCREAMS millenials in 2014 tbh (like....fr you'd be hard-pressed NOT to find a millenial on the internet from that era making jokes about how much pizza and avocado toast they eat) i also gave her a smeargle to reference renée's love for painting and a snom bc....tbh i think snom is kinda overrated and i feel like renée would be the type of person to make that damn thing her entire personality so yea (also renée likes bugs so i had in incorporate that SOMEHOW)

This whole thing took me about a week to make and i'm SO GLAD i'm finally done! I would've added a feature where you could move the accessories and extra details around but it kept messing up so uhhhh....if the belt straps don't match up with some of the pants/skirt options or something than i am so sorry....also i sprinkled in a couple references to things i like (including entire outfit options for celestia ludenberg from danganronpa and sans undertale....albeit i forgot to include sans' shorts...) so yea! Hope you guys enjoy it :)))

I was gonna post these on the same day as i did that....absolutely gormless deltarune fanart i made but tbh i'm kinda goin through it rn so i had a hard time trying to finish these, but i mean....they're here now at least...

Y'know, i kinda have to write the final chapter of my story mundane believers but i've also had the ideas for these OCs in my head for a while now and i can't focus on anything other than them so i just decided to draw designs for them so that i can get 'em out of my head. (EXPLANATIONS OF THESE CHARACTERS + SOME OTHER STUFF UNDER THE CUT)

The frankenstein girl is named "alive" (any pronouns, she doesn't care about gender). She's mixed between 5 different races and doesn't talk much, she's also vewy scawwy but is also very misunderstood. I haven't really developed her much yet lol (also her color palette was, of course, inspired by old black and white horror movies as well as frankie stein from monster high, specifically how they appear in the "reel drama" collector's line)

The girl in overalls is named carrie, she's quite literally a carrot that decided to be human one day and she's desperately trying to fit in with the other humans. Also i imagine she doesn't really now what a name is and didn't actually have one until someone asked and she just said whatever sounded like a human name (kinda like that one headcanon people have about shrek) oh yeah and she has a pet bunny named rabby who's constantly trying to eat her but she doesn't realize it....btw carrie is also an intersex demigirl

Lastly, the girl with blue hair is named makeighlyn. She is a parody of those really weird flash games aimed at girls and i got the idea for her when i watched the youtuber li speaks' video about avata star sue. Basically the gist of what makeighlyn is about is she's basically an exorcist/demon slayer who's generally really sweet most of the time but is pretty much doomguy levels of sadistic when it comes to her job, she ABSOLUTELY HATES demons and wants nothing more than to see them suffer! Oh yeah and also she's pretty fucking two-faced and i consider her theme song to be scary world by night club

Some other inspirations for makeighlyn are mikan tsumiki from danganronpa, the 3 mascots of GirlsGoGames, the artist SleepyCore's OC mew, the artist jo_sipu's OC balvenie and the youtuber caitlyn reilly's "the girl who bullied you in high school" skits (this one's more obvious considering makeighlyn was named after the title character's daughter)

Oh yeah and quick warning: jo_sipu is a GORE artist and quite a few of her animations deal with stuff such as toxic relationships and drug use so if you want to check her out, please do so with caution ⚠️

Decided to do one of those art summary thingies bc it looked fun, i couldn't find one that provided a blank template so i just made the whole thing from scratch with my own aesthetic (h0ppin_h00ligan is my art psudonym btw, "emma is epic" is for my personal stuff)

If i'm being honest, i haven't been able to draw for myself much this year since i was working on my original story mundane believers, my makeighlyn dress up game on picrew and even now since i'm currently working on my OCs' profiles on toyhouse and need to draw their profile assets! But still, i feel like i've churned out some absolute BANGERS this year (especially considering i've stopped using amino this year and i've started getting people liking my posts who WEREN'T being forced to do so by the app which is good for my ego) and i'm hoping that 2024 will be even better!
