OH in tmnt 2003 there’s this ep where donnie gets sent to a shredder-led apocalyptic future where he disappears and his family is torn apart and the resistance is struggling due to it

what if cc donnie gets sent to a similar world during the krang future where he isn’t there because he died during the curse. post cl makes the most sense but oh wouldn’t it be grand if cw donnie goes and sees these older bigger stronger versions of his brothers but they can barely even look at him without crying

honestly he doesnt even need to die during the curse. in a cc version of the bad future donnie's death tears everything apart regardless, first their family and likely eventually the resistance-- and he's the first to go for sure, he was so aware of how loved he was and yet he was so convinced he was still disposable, that it'd be better if he died.

i doooo think you could kill him off at any point and achieve the same effect though, maybe itd be worse if donnie died in cw because he didn't run off in event horizon and he just kind of faded away. they have more of a reason to be so aggressively protective and to feel even more like they failed, because donnie was terrified of dying and he begged and pleaded and they still watched it happen anyway. he probably died scared and crying begging for his life, just like under the curse-- and this time they were there, fully themselves, and they couldnt do anything about it. they couldn't fix it. holding him wasn't enough.

ive actually had a really strong idea of what would happen if donnie died that way. leo would just leave, just abandons them as a completely self-destructive move, set adrift without donnie there. mikey goes almost full-time with draxum to learn more about mystics, more due to paranoia about something like the curse happening again and as a result of leo only tearing the wound wider by leaving first (he'll probably still unlock his ninpo early though), leaving raph and splinter in that broken home alone together. it automatically dooms the timeline-- the invasion hits and mikey's quick to find his family through the chaos, but leo takes months, maybe even an up to a year or longer, to find them, and they're not happy to see him, raph especially. regardless of the proposed premise i think it has a lot of potential tbhhh its a very interesting concept

'It’s funny – this is the same place that, what feels like a lifetime ago, he attempted to guess Dazai’s job before joining the Agency in hopes of winning that sizable pot of money. This enigmatic, charismatic handsome man who saved his life. Him having been a ruthless mafioso never would have crossed his mind.

Until recently, no one was aware that Dazai was former mafia. Not even Kunikida – the man who is supposedly his partner.

He’s hidden that part of his life from everyone in the Agency for years.

Atsushi now has a pretty good insight as to why.

“What are we doing down here, Dazai?”

Dazai takes a long, slurpy sip of his coffee that seems to have magically materialized in front of him. Atsushi glances down, unsure when his own steaming cup was delivered.

“You saw some of Akutagawa’s memories, right? From his time as my mentee. That’s one of the things you didn’t want to report. Because it would make me look bad in front of the rest of the Agency.”

Atsushi’s shoulders droop as he heaves out an exhausted sigh.

He knew they’d have this conversation eventually. He just didn’t think Dazai would be the one to bring it up.

His mentor has a habit of avoiding serious discussions – particularly when they’re about him.

“That’s right.”

“So? Let me hear it.”

Dazai taps his coffee cup expectantly, pursing his lips.

Atsushi tilts his head.

“…Hear what?”

“Oh, I don’t know – “ Dazai leans back, casually circling his wrist as he takes another long sip of his coffee. The cups clanks a little harder against the saucer than it needs to.

“That I’m a monster. That I’m a horrible person. That you don’t know how you could ever trust me again.”

Despite his chipper tone, there’s an undercurrent of self-pity in Dazai’s words that leaves Atsushi baffled.

Since when does Dazai care about what Atsushi thinks of him? Since when does Dazai care about what anyone thinks of him?

Atsushi takes a deep breath, exhaling slowly.

“I don’t think you’re a horrible person. And I do trust you. You’ve never given me a reason not to. Even though I don’t always understand why you do the things you do, I know everything is for the sake of protecting this city. And the agency.”

Atsushi hesitates before adding, “…and me.”

The Dazai in Akutagawa’s memory and the man sitting in front of him seem like completely different people. In a way, Atsushi knows that they are.

But even if the man Dazai was back then is dead, he continues to live on within Akutagawa. In his memories, his habits, his fears and aspirations. He’s gone, but he’s always with him.

How awful it must be, to be haunted by the ghost of a man who is still alive.

“…But what you did to him wasn’t right. I know it was the mafia, and you were a kid, but he was a kid too. He didn’t deserve to be treated like  – “ The church. The cage. Handcuffs digging into his wrists. Choking on tepid water as a large hand grips onto his hair, forcing him under.

Atsushi swallows down the acid on his tongue.

“ – like some sort of animal.”

Dazai says nothing, tipping his head to examine the ceiling.

“…Didn’t he?” he finally answers, leveling Atsushi with a look that’s so cold he physically feels the chill travel down his spine.

“He was violent. Impulsive. Dangerous. Isn’t it better to take a rabid dog off the street and collar it? At least then you can pick and choose who it attacks.”

“Dazai –“ Atsushi opens his mouth, words choking up his throat.

Is that how the other man feels about him, too?

Like he’s some loose, dangerous animal that needed to be made into a house pet to keep others safe? Is he the one on a leash, now?

No, Atsushi thinks, pushing the errant thoughts away with no hesitation. Dazai is my friend. He’s never done anything to make me think he’s trying to use me or manipulate me. He saves people. He saved me.

“You don’t… I know you don’t really feel that way about him. At least, not anymore. You trust him. There’s a reason you keep pairing us up. You think he’s a good fighter and a good partner.”

Dazai shrugs, small smile sneaking in on his morose face.

i gotta say, going to your first day of school in a new town, bravely taking a seat in an overwhelmingly busy classroom, being confronted with a girl SO pretty you almost tumblr off the chair you're sitting on completely normally (but don't, because she catches you) and then fainting, waking up on top of a table surrounded by classmates staring at you, and eventually fleeing because the girl is STILL so pretty she makes you hiccup and you accidentally said that out loud, is, like. both a minor nightmare and something for legends only. ongsa, i see you going places, and i don't just mean the bathroom to hide and scream!!

Nothing annoys me more lately than "Going to the gym isn't a personality" like yes??? it is???

People talk about the things they care about, that they spend time on, that they put effort into. That includes their bodies?

I work with a lot of athletes. Like more than your typical amount. And they will happily debate protein powders, tell you they're doing a new training regimen, talk about Lat Pulls like having opinions on them is something obviously I have as well. Going to the gym is exciting for them- they tell me they hit a new personal best bench press, or are trying to hit a specific weight class, or are working on knee strength after their surgery. They compare times they threw up or got too dizzy.

The same way when I talk to MTG players they tell me about their new EDH deck, or talk about that one wombo combo they pulled in Draft, or this asshole at FNM. It's all just nuts and bolts for a thing they care about. I don't know much of anything about Knitting but a lot of my friends do, and I would NEVER tell them that "Knitting isn't a personality" just because I personally find it boring or whatever. Because I would be an asshole.

Going to the gym is a ~personality~, it's just not one you want to talk about. You don't care about machine vs. free weights. You don't want to know how long they spent working out this morning. Frankly, you want them to do the work at the gym and not give you a peek behind the curtain. You want people to look good, look fit, look how you want to, but not talk about how much work and effort it takes to do so. Working out to you is a chore, and an unpleasant one at that, so you'd rather they not remind you of it.

But exercising your body shouldn't be a chore, it should be something you enjoy- your favorite rock climbing place, the dance class you and your friends take, etc. These people LIKE going to the gym. They would gladly tell you about it. And if for some reason you are talking to someone who works out religiously but hates every second of it- first of all, yikes, buddy you don't have to live that way- but second of all, that person will not talk to you about the gym. They will talk to you about what they are actually passionate about.

You don't have to enjoy their hobby! You can think the gym is boring, or exercise isn't interesting. But like. say that. The gym can be a personality. Anything can be a personality.

the worst part is i can't even say he's wrong. they certainly did figure out how to contribute the city by joining the wrgp. but like. this is one of those things where it literally does not make sense. this is insane levels of logic. "we're not sure how to contribute to the city. we think entering a magic the gathering tournament will help." like. imagine saying that fr when your parents ask what you're going to do after you graduate college. I know it's less egregious than with Kris (since in Kris' case the fact that they're their own person is a plot point) but I do also kinda disagree with the idea Frisk is meant to be a blank slate (something which gets brought up as part of why it's okay to refer to them with gendered pronouns)

It's less effective than it is with Kris since Frisk isn't characterized as strongly, but I do think part of the conclusion of Undertale is meant to be that Frisk is their own person. The point where Asriel learns Frisk's real name (after referring to them by the name you gave the fallen child for the whole game) marks a separation between Frisk and the player. When you re-open the game after completing a true pacifist run, one of the questions Flowey asks you is to consider if the characters really cared about you, or if they cared about Frisk.

It's been a while since I last played Undertale, so I might be forgetting some other details. I guess I also just don't really understand the need people have to change the pronouns of these characters? Like I guess I'm not sure why people feel the need to make Kris and Frisk a boy or a girl.

One thing I love about Ashton and Fearne is that Ashton very aggressively projects onto her all the things they want to be; blasé, confident, effortlessly loved, capable of shaking off anything. They see the best, brightest parts of her but it's an admiration that often obscures her real fears and sensitivities! She's not just the impulsive, flirty fae, she's really scared for her friends. She's a sheltered young woman who's never truly lost someone they loved before. Ashton connects instinctively with her whimsy, her need for challenge, the bouts of spite, the urge to shake things up, the "level of crazy that I'm kind of into" but he can't grasp the degree to which she'd be messed up if he died in front of her. Coming off of so many years of nihilistic self-pity, it's hard to recognize that your actions impact other people, and I think part of the reason they wanted Fearne is because they thought that exploding in front of her wouldn't be as bad as doing so in front of the others. Just take his stuff, it's fine!
