John opened his locker and reached for his French workbook. His hand stopped moving halfway there. A french daisy lay on top of his books. A note was wrapped around it...

"You love me,

you love me not..."

"What the...?" John mumbled, staring at the daisy in his hand.

"John!" Mike crashed into him from behind. "Why do you look like you just saw a ghost?"

"I... uh I think someone left a daisy in my locker," John held it out to him, but kept the note.

"Oh my gosh, is it a secret admirer?!"

"What! No!" John waved that idea off.

Three days later John just finished his rugby training when he came back to his locker. He opened it and rose petals flew over him. A note was amonst them.

"Roses are red,

violets are blue.

I might be mad,

but I like you.

-SH"

John grunted and kicked his backpack softly. Whoever thought it was romantic to put roses in his locker forgot about the mess they made along with it. He cleaned it up, but sone small part inside him queried who "SH" was...

The next time there was an actual flower bouquet in it. Tulips. John had to smile, he loved tulips. He caught himself looking for a note. There, behind his English workbook, he found it.

"I dream of tulips,

yellow, blue, the leaves are green.

I dream of my lips on your lips,

no inbetween.

-SH"

John laughed. The poems really weren't that great... however he couldn't help but wonder, who the secret admirer was. SH... Sabrina Hollen from his English class? Susanne Heeling from biology? Sabrina constantly joked around with him and Susanne seemed to stare at him but whenever he tried to look her in the eyes... she looked away, cheeks pink.

Or could it be... No, no way the serious chemistry nerd would hide flowers in... but what if? Doesn't matter. It's not him... and besides, John wasn't gay.

John hadn't noticed he had crumbled up the note in his hand. When he flattened it again, he saw a PS on the backside.

"Meet me tomorrow. 3pm at Speedy's."

"Just don't get killed," Mike said over the phone.

"I'll be fine," John allayed. "Okay. I'm here. I'll text you."

"Alright. Enjoy. No murders!"

John rolled his eyes, "I'll do my best to not get murdered."

"That's my man. Don't forget to text!"

"Yes, yes. Bye now!" John hung up.

He was here. At Speedy's. Going to meet his secret admirer (not his murderer, he hoped).

He sat down on a desk in the back, but he could overlook everything and he was close to an emergency exit - just in case. By now it was 2:57 and John was getting nervous. Would his admirer actually have the guts to show up?

The time passed and at 3:04 he slowly started doubting his decision to come here. He wasn't sure what - or better, who - he was expecting even.

'My lips on your lips, no inbetween,' an inner voice whispered.

Just in that moment the door opened and the chimes above it jingled. A shadow stood in the frame... and then it moved towards him, with a confidence, John admired.

When the shadow turned into a human with a face... John gasped...

"Sher- Sherlock?"

"Hello, John," the tall boy stood in front of the small table, where John had sat down.

"I don't- are you... did you put all the flowers into my locker?" John suddenly felt extremely nervous upon seeing Sherlock Holmes. He knew him from chemistry class, they did a few experiments together and had a great time. John had loved how the serious boy's face lit up when he tried out something new and it worked.

Sherlock twisted his face as if in pain. "It was Irene's idea. She was sick of me whining at her about how I wanted... want to know you better."

That made John relax, he asked, "Want to know me better as in," a huge grin spread on his face, "'my lips on your lips, roses are red, tulips are green, no inbetween' way or a... platonic way?"

Sherlock - still standing - just stared at him. He looked slightly in shock. "I never wrote that."

"Eh, close enough," John leaned back, waving dismissively with his hand.

"You clearly have no idea about poetry, John."

"Well you better be glad, otherwise I wouldn't be here on this date with you," John smirked.

The stiff expression on Sherlock's face melted and turned into a smile. He plummeted onto the chair opposite of John and sighed, "Alright, fair enough." Then he blushed. "Date," he pointed out.

John laughed. "You wooed me with flowers and poems, what did you expect?"

Sherlock smiled, his cheeks turning even redder when he laid a hand over John's. "I wasn't sure it was gonna work. Thanks for coming."

John felt his hand starting to sweat underneath Sherlock's, so he pulled it out and slapped his thighs. "I'm gonna grab a coffee. Can I get my date something?"

"Oh, uh... coffee. Black, two sugars."

John got up. But when he walked by Sherlock, he leaned down and whispered in his ear, "I am so happy my secret admirer is you."

Then, he headed to the counter to order.

The Inaugural Writer's Meow Meow Mock Draft

Ok so I had a fun hypothetical with some fellow writers. The premise being: if there was a fantasy draft of girl group idols where each pick represents who you get to call your "Meow Meow" in the writer's discord and no one else can call them that, what would be your draft strategy? Would there be a lot of biases picked first? 3rd gen? 4th gen?

I'm still physically wiped out and my head's too fuzzy to do 'real' writing/revisions on my story, but I'm just coherent enough that I want to chitter-chatter about my fic.

So in the course of working on Choices, one of the things I've spent an inordinate amount of time on is figuring out the 'cohorts' for the valleyfolk. What I mean by 'cohorts' are the groups of people who are in a similar age-range to one another and then further subdivided into 'natives' (aka 'people who grew up together in the valley') and 'transplants.' After all, one of the things I'm trying to accomplish is interweaving three large expansion mods with the base game and coming up with a cohesive whole, and that means knowing who from the various mods have known each other basically forever.

Under the cut, I break down who's in what cohort. I may or may not later flesh out my thinking about why I plopped certain people into certain groups, mostly because when I started to do so with this list, the post grew disgustingly (more) bloated. If I do, I'll probably do a separate post for each cohort. After all, this is the site for rambling about this sort of random stuff, right? 😅 (Edit: that's exactly how I spent my afternoon. not the best drawing but oh well! I was wondering what to put on top, cause I wanted something other than a city. soooo since ire means anger, I decided "fuck it gladiator ring!" cause like. these idiots respawn and I'm sure SOME of them want to commit a bit of murder <3

this is the tiny bit I have written on them in a google doc "Ancients Ire (Irene, Ire) Senior of the group, Oldest of the group, gen 1, built on unstable ground total wonder they haven’t fully collapsed, located in a marshland, 3 legs are broken to some degree so they are tilted, their hosted a… dubiously legal fighting ring so theres TON of dangerous shit up there <3"

so basically, they were built in a marsh so 2 of the legs have sinked into the ground and one is broken (the wildlife got a bit silly) and they have a cool fighting ring! the big block connected to the colosseum held a ton of dangerous animals, lizards (red, caramel, cyan, green, white), miros birds, vultures, all those things! so there's a ton of dangerous critters up there. also the big ball thing on the right side has a ton of lantern mice in it. who have evolved to be to hot to hold and use flashes of light to protect against the abundant lizards. anyways yah! iterator oc!

So exciting that you loved Queen’s Thief so much! It is most definitely worthy of discussion!!

My favorite thing is hearing about people’s experience reading book 2, especially with regards to the portrayal of Irene! At one point did you start to sympathize with her? And at what point did you realize she’s coming Nahuseresh? I know when I first read it, I stayed Stressed and Confused pretty much until the part when she gives her speech (about gifts and bribery) to Nahuseresh above the battlefield, but I have some friends who noticed what she was up to much earlier! (And of course on reread, I see so many of the hints!)

Also you mentioned you want to talk about the last book! What was your favorite moment and/or was there any scene that shocked/surprised you?

Finally, if you haven’t already discovered them, I’d just like to recommend the amazing Queen’s thief art done by @emilybeemartin, and @shebsart. The QT fandom is blessed to have SO many amazing pieces of art dedicated to it, but these two have some of the largest collections and I’m forever stunned by them.

Hiiiii!!!! Oh yes please let's talk about book 2!

It was easily the most complex out of all of them. It was VERY hard to guess what the Queen was thinking, since this one, out of all the books!, was the most about her, yet it still wasn't told from a first person POV. I wavered between "please don't be dumb and silly please don't be dumb and silly" and "naww she's playing everyone again, I just can't guess HOW" and that made me so angry!!!!! Lol.

The scene where Gen was recaptured and then the earring scene following that, were of course fantastic.

As for the last book, I have to reread the entire battle season. I just have to. Poor Pheris betraying and saving Eugenides at the same time and just hoping for mercy is so endearing. And I need to get the details of the Mede's camp again and get a list of what exactly Eugenides damaged when he was there ;)

I also liked the way the army train was described. It was very vivid how a mass of armed and heavily supplied people would move across the countryside. The author obviously did her research, and I was delighted to find out that it moved no differently than an ordinary group of hikers, just on a much larger scale!

I have already discovered TQT art and it's stunning!!! I'm so glad people made art, it would have been so hard to enjoy the fandom if there wasn't at least a little bit of art!! What actually got me hooked on TQT in the first place(!) was @/emilybeemartin's Gen vs. Costis art and @/mothsartart's Puppet King. They are both awesome.

2 comments: first I can't imagine the type of people who legit leave comments CORRECTING stuff in the fic, but it does figure it would be people who are not actually as well versed as they think they are

I don't mind it when it's an honest mistake or point of confusion (like, I got an Italian plural wrong in a Borgias fic and I appreciate the person who let me know!), but it is deeply annoying (for me, anyway) to be lectured about my fic being "wrong" because it doesn't incorporate someone's preferred canon byproduct or fanon derived from it.

P&P 1995 + Star Wars Expanded Universe fandoms are especially bad about this, in my experience. No matter how clearly I say "my SW fic is based on the films and scripts only" there's always someone who's like "well actually in the novelization" or whatever.

Second, #19 please keep queen of Attolia on your thoughts……….

06. what are your favorite and least favorite skins?

in no particular order these are my top seven favorite looks!

i think nekoette and dmitri are cute next gen designs without being a complete copy of their parents! i especially adore the white cat ears, light blue hair, and pink clothes that nekoette has, it's very pleasing to the eye.

likewise zoey got such a massive glow-up in s2 oh my goodness. i much prefer this color palette compared to the darker, saturated colors she used to have and the bright pink lips she had (only brendan and ginger laurance pulled off having lips imo). the clothes she wears are very cute too, really fits communicates that she's an elf.

rebirth aphmau my girl, my gal, my beloved!! i just think the markings are just such a great way of elevating her base design and immediately setting her apart from the other characters. equally i also really like the cocomau irene design, trading out the pale blues for a bright purple speaks to me.

i think lo's skin is a bit too pink and his new skin has his eyes way too blue, but as a general skin? prettier than the entire male cast. garroth who? laurance what? don't know them sorry.

i know the blue jacket laurance's skin is just an outfit template but oh my god does he pull it off well. my absolute favorite out of all of his clothes and you can pull that from my cold, dead hands.

AND I DON'T KNOW WHO THE PHEONIX DROP DAYS GIRL IS BUT OH MY GOD??? PRETTIEST DESIGN BY FAR??? when i stumbled across a photo of her my jaw dropped i was so shocked. girl, are you single i'm asking for a friend.

i also really like the kitty cat maid cafe butler uniforms for uhm. no reason. no reason at all!

...i'm not doing a top seven least favorite looks. these two are such a horrific crimes against fashion that the other mid looks weep in comparison.

they just straight up yoinked brian's skin and gave him four belts in return. what is that horrid chain mail texturing. an entire team of people allowed this look to happen. shame on all of you.

and don't even get me started on laurance. look at this guy. look at what he's wearing. laurance sweetheart honey babe. there's no way cadenza let you leave the house looking like that there's no way.

29. any general unpopular opinions?

oh boy this is long.

too many people are weird about jessica having a self-insert. there's a huge difference between not liking how jess's personal feelings have been a detriment to the series and vehemently saying you hate her for daring to include herself and her interests on her own channel.

"she's such a narcissist for including herself in everything" "why does she project herself so much on aphmau?" "i can't believe she stole her name after a final fantasy character—" personally i think it's based to get a shitton of money from role-playing your overpowered mary sue. cringe culture is dead and no this does not make me a jess supporter for not whining endlessly about the smallest shit. not all criticism is valid and i'm allowed to disagree with it.

also i find it tiresome when people endlessly complain about canon, prop up their rewrite, and said rewrite is just a bunch of bullet points on a google doc. which isn't to say that you aren't allowed to critique jess, i'd be a massive hypocrite if so, but atleast she actually made something. way easier to critique a piece of fiction when it actually exists (and on the same note, most rewrites aren't my cup of tea compared to just rewatching rebirth! which isn't to say that they're bad but i haven't found one that's of the same quality or pursues the same avenues that rebirth does. which, again, not a bad thing and absolutely understandable.)

and also i think it's fucking laughable whenever people rightfully complain about the problematic shit in canon but then keep/add problematic stuff to their rewrites. if i see another "🥺 omg laurance touching his s/o face" post i'm setting myself on fire.

...also i don't like younger dante hcs after someone tried arguing that he's canonically a child to defend putting him in a grooming subplot (no the fuck he isn't). i think the idea is nice and has a lot of potential but i'm probably never going to pursue the idea myself or interact with it from now on.
