fellows for pride month im getting a compound microscope to complete my lichen identification setup. cant hold it in anymore cant keep it back
#for those not acquainted#the optimal lichen ID setup has both a compound and a dissecting microscope#you use the dissecting scope to inspect the creature and do chemical tests (although tbh some chemical tests you dont need it)#and you use the dissecting scope to search for spores and look at smaller structures. usually reproductive structures bc lichens love those#my old compound scope wasn't great but it died. it was my fault. did not take the batteries out and moved like 3 times#tried to do surgery on it to clean it. prognosis was grim#side note if i had a nickle for every microscope ive done surgery on id have 3 nickles which isnt a lot but its weird it happened 3 times#lichens

(there will still be a post tomorrow to keep on track)#The original 3 panel comic idea was fine but the point of this new schedule was to take time to push myself a bit more.#I was taking a look back through some comic artists I felt inspired by#and I really loved how Lynda Barry fills her gutters with patterns and doodles!#Obviously I'm not going as absolutely wild with it as she does but it was a great exercise!#I truly think the gutters are the most important and most overlooked part of any comic. There's lots going on in that space.#It's the same with timeskips. The implied movement between moments that we don't see changes depending on how wide that gap is#You're here for the funny tags so here's some that ties this time talk together:#I think LWJ was thinking about that second note from day 2 but it took him 7 days of hazing to commit it to paper.#I think he sends it a day later and immediately regrets it. Chasing down the messenger and everything.#You know if something actually happened to his brother he would never ever forgive himself for putting the bad vibes out there.#Third time skip was the hardest because there was so many possible flavours of jokes here. Day 8/9 was a personal favourite.#day 14 was also funny (week by week). I think the debate on 'how long does lwj take to catch feelings' is more or less:#'how long does it take for him to arrive at a particular stage of grief and yearning (and awareness of it all)#This is a symphony. There is an act by act structure. Every day he is fighting to keep his old sensibilities. He is losing so badly.#(I'll be returning to the main comic soon but there is more of this AU to come!)

I love how extreme found family is in one piece. Like they took supernatural line of "Family don't end in blood" and actually made good on it. Because it's not just that the crew found each other even before that only really very briefly Robin, Usopp and Luffy could say that anyone biologically related to them raised them.
Like Luffy had Garp and that's his grandpa but he also had Makino and Shanks and the red hair pirates and they were a family unit and he also had Ace, Sabo Dandan and the bandits and they were a family as well and it's never who mattered more to Luffy or who actually raised him cause they all did. It'd be hard to put him in a nuclear family structure because so many people fill the same roles in his life in different ways and that's great like Kung Fu panda said "that doesn't mean less for one parent it just means more for Luffy"
And that's the thing I think sometime fandom can get very obsessive with trying to pin down who is whose surrogate father/mother how do they fit in the nuclear family structure and while that's fun and there's nothing wrong with head cannon characters that way I also think it's important to remember that not every relationship needs a title or definition sometimes you are just family and that's valid too.
Ace had Luffy and Garp but he also had the whitebeard pirates and his pops same with Sabo and the revolutionaries
Zoro with Kuina and his old kendo master, that was maybe more of a rivals, mentor mentee relationship than whatever Mihawk Zoro and Perona had going on but it's all family none the less.
Chopper with Hiririluk and Kureha. Perona and Moria, Usopp with the little village boys and Kaya. Shanks and Buggy with the Roger Pirates. They might not all have had defined roles with each other but it was still family.
Just like Sanji, Nami, Franky and Law and their more defined Surrogate familes
And people like Vivi Robin Usopp and Shirahoshi who had/have their biological parents/family that love them and raised them.
It's nobody that I've just mentioned properly fitting squarely into any of these categories because it's all complicated family is complicated and its messy and it's big and everyone in your family might not have even met but it's family and it doesn't end in blood and for some people it never started there either.

#opened up the flood gates for the wheelchair user Riz headcanons I’ve been stirring up since I started FH#so in fy riz is already using mobility aids for his chronic fatigue but doesn’t prefer the wheelchair because the one he has is a-#secondhand hospital chair and the handles make it easy for people to direct him around which he HATES#so for most of fy he uses a cane (his dad’s old one that he thinks adds on to his cool detective aesthetic)#but in sy he essentially develops an autoimmune disease caused by kalina#(because he was born with her his body doesn’t know how to function once he’s cured and attacks itself in response. I’ve thought an it a lot#but it’s too much to put in tags)#it causes him a lot of pain and fatigue so he uses his Kalvaxus money to buy himself a better chair! yay!#he used to fall out a ton for various reasons so his mom made him get straps#I also spent like 20 minutes trying to figure out if being digitigrade would effect the structure of the chair? Sinners is everything. It’s a period piece. It’s a horror movie; a vampire film, and a folk horror, and a horror noir. It’s an action-thriller, and a bittersweet tragic love story, and a dark coming-of-age, with three endings, each genre with an emotionally satisfying conclusion. It’s written with such historical accuracy and honesty and attention to detail it might as well be a true story. The man who played Old Sammie lived the real thing.
#yeah fun and heart-squeezing fact: Buddy Guy? the man who played Old Sammie?#he lived the story Ryan Coogler told#in an interview piece Coogler went to meet Guy—wanting him in the film—they shared the script and then Guy told his life story#being a sharecropper growing up and moving to Chicago to become a musician#Coogler didn’t know that before but broke down hearing it bc minus the vampires? this was Guy’s real life#I find it chilling Coogler wrote a movie so real that it ends with a man who lived it. in real life and in character.#(it’s also. Black artists who respect and influence each others work. Coogler wanted Guy bc he grew up listening to that music#and his dad loved Guy’s work.
