३ (3)
The third time you see him, you’re back on Coruscant, and technically supposed to be on leave. You requested a few days off, much to Fives’ delight and Anakin’s dismay. (“Aw, come on Astro! Your opinion is the only one I can trust on this entire ship when it comes to engineering.” “Oh please Anakin, spare me your whining. You know just as well as I do that you’ll be perfectly fine. But I’ll miss you too.”)
Despite both being part of the 501st, Fives and Echo had very different schedules, and more often than not, Fives’ rotations lined up with yours, leaving you to suffer through his insufferable pick-up lines. You have no idea how you haven’t smacked the banthashit out of him yet. (Fives’ knowing smile always ends up stopping you)
In all seriousness though, he had been pestering you to take a break from your work after quickly seeing the toll it began to take on you. The responsibilities kept piling up and more and more often, you were sacrificing sleep in order to continue making improvements, even despite having your team’s help. In your mind, time couldn’t be wasted when good soldiers were losing their lives, and you would be damned if you didn’t take every opportunity to make sure they lived another day.
But Fives eventually wore you down. (You have a sneaking suspicion he was relaying everything to Echo who then in turn made sure Fives turned his “charm” up to the highest notch to get you to take a break.)
(It worked.)
If anything, you were shocked when you received the message that not only was your leave accepted, but you were encouraged to take a sabbatical for a few weeks.
You weren’t planning on doing so, but after Fives, Prauf, Sonia, and even Rex of all people ganged up on you, you didn’t think you had a choice.
Even now, you’re still not sure what to make of it. Granted, the extra time means you can reach out to family and dust off former projects, but you kind of miss the hustle and bustle of your job. It simply isn’t the same without your friends always nagging you and cracking jokes. You would never tell Fives, but you even miss his terribly endearing flirting.
After the glamour of the sabbatical wore off, you decided to dive headlong into the numerous ideas collected in your engineering notebook over the years. It’s an old gift given to you by your parents, made out of paper and bound by string, encased in a decorated hard-shell cover to protect the inside. Such rarities are difficult to come by these days since datapads are so prevalent, but you always liked the smooth glide of an inkpen against scratchy paper better.
You turn to a new, precious page and meticulously begin fleshing out a prototype. Each line is drawn precisely, every mark exact. As you design, you keep a datapad open with the list of items you need to get. You have a makerspace where you can engineer to your heart’s desire, but there are some select objects you require you doubt you’ll be able to find in the marketplace.
So you head for the makerspace in the engineering garage in the basement of the Senate building on Coruscant. Your office is still there, and you still have your holoid with you–you’ll be in and out in no time.
Or so you thought.
“Astro! It’s good to see you,” a voice calls out. You turn around to find both Ahsoka and Padme side by side, R2-D2 trailing behind Padme’s lovely gown.
“Padme! Ahsoka! I haven’t seen you both in so long,” you greet kindly, eyes curving into crescent moons. R2-D2 beeps indignantly as they stop in front of you and you laugh, bending down to pet the droid’s head affectionately.
“And hello to you too, R2. Anakin making sure that capacitor is working smoothly?” R2 whumps and warbles and you nod in satisfaction.
“For once, he’s actually taking my advice.”
All of you laugh, knowing just how headstrong Anakin is when it comes to technology–or anything, really.
“Why are you here? I thought you were taking some time off?” Ahsoka pipes up, her confusion as clear as day. You shrug in slight embarrassment at getting caught so quickly.
“I wanted to pick up a few things from my office downstairs. Thought I could do something useful to help the war effort even though I’m not here,” you explain and Padme raises an eyebrow.
“Astro, I believe the point of taking leave is to not do work?” she points out and you rub the back of your neck sheepishly.
“Yes, well, this...this is more of a personal project than a work project. I like to keep busy,” you say, hands gripping your bag tightly.
Ahsoka opens her mouth to speak, but Padme places a hand on the Padawan’s shoulder. “In that case, we won’t stop you. But please do take some time for yourself, hm? And you’re always free to stop by anytime,” she says instead, and you nod in agreement, not sure what else to say.
“Take care Astro! See you later!” Ahsoka fills the silence as the three of them begin walking away and you wave back in response.
Once they turn the corner, you let out a breath you didn’t even know you were holding, too focused on not slipping up in the conversation. At least that’s over.
You make your way to the makerspace swiftly, not keen on meeting anyone else. You love your friends, but you doubt you can handle any more guilt-tripping. Besides, you’re still taking a break–you don’t really see what the problem is here.
The sharp scent of oil and grease fills your nostrils as you step into the engineering garage, saws and cutters whirring throughout the spacious area. Lights spark here and there and you relax, feeling at home. Before you can make it any farther, your best friend seemingly materializes out of nowhere.
“What the hell are you doing here? Go home,” Prauf exclaims, already trying to push you back out the door. You roll your eyes as you easily duck under his outstretched arm.
“I am, I am! I just came by to pick up a few things–please, for the love of the Maker above, do not tell Sonia. She’s going to rip me apart to shreds if she finds out,” you please, clasping your hands in front of you as Prauf folds his arms over his chest.
He relents, though, sighing out your name in resignation, and you whoop in joy.
“Thankyouthankyouthankyou! I promise I’ll make it up to you,” you say as you throw your arms around him and he pats your back gently.
“Yeah, yeah, you owe me,” Prauf agrees. “You should use your time to go on a date with your boyfriend though.”
He darts away back to his work before you can smack his forearm in retaliation because you do not have a boyfriend, thank you very much. Your heart beats faster at the thought anyway.
Instead of following him, you accept defeat retreat to your office to grab the materials you need. You end up needing a cart to tow everything back to your makerspace back home. Realizing you can’t walk back without the high chance of one of your parts being stolen, you opt for grabbing a speeder taxi up at the ship docking bay.
You make your way back upstairs, dodging busygoers this way and that before finally making it to the bay. So close…
But of course, the universe is against you when you see his telltale armor standing near a ship. Oh kriff.
You saw both Ahsoka and R2-D2 today, meaning Anakin and the 501st were probably here too. You can’t believe it didn’t connect the dots in your head sooner. For someone whose life's work is putting things together, it’s ironic you didn’t realize.
In an attempt to make sure he can’t see you, you turn at an angle and try heading for the far end of the hanger as fast as possible, pulling your hat down lower over your eyes to obscure your face.
It doesn’t work.
“Astro?” Echo’s voice calls. You close your eyes in defeat, posture softening into a sag. Damnit. But despite your reluctance at being caught, you can’t help the spark of warmth that shoots through your body at the sound of his warm acknowledgment.
“In the flesh.”
You turn around and Echo jogs up to you, a look on his face you can’t quite decipher. He gazes at you when he ends up in front of you, a small, disarming smile. It seems as if he knows something you don’t.
“Need help?” he gestures to your heavy cart and you look down, momentarily forgetting about it. You don’t comment on your surprise.
“Oh, uh–yeah. Thanks,” you say instead. You step back, but it’s not far enough. Echo bumps into you when he tries sliding into your space to take over. It knocks a breathless laugh out of him and your stomach flips. Whether it’s out of embarrassment or something else entirely, you don’t know.
“I–sorry, I didn’t mean to–”
Echo waves you off nonchalantly. “Don’t apologize, happens all the time. You should have seen Fives yesterday at 79’s. Tup accidentally tripped him and he went careening straight into a commander. And boy did they give him a piece of their mind. All of us were losing it when he came back to our table,” he laughs effortlessly.
You’re suddenly jealous of how natural he is, how easily he smooths over awkward bumps and cumbersome smalltalk. Your hands curl at your sides, unsure of where to place them.
Echo guides you both across the large docking bay, filling the silence gracefully with one story after another, each as funny as the last. You stay quiet most of the time, appropriately laughing at this point and that, inserting a comment here or there. He doesn’t seem to mind though, instead building off of your reactions. It’s almost… relieving.
“And we’re here!” You’re shaken out of your reverie by the exclamation, and you look around to confirm that you indeed have arrived. Wait… how did he even know this is where I wanted to go?
You choose not to dwell too long on the thought.
Echo lets go of his grip on the cart, making space for you to push it. He waves down a driver and instructs them to load your parts into a crate to take on the back of a speeder before turning to you.
“Thanks, Echo. It was nice to see you again,” you remark, lifting your gaze to meet his eyes. He smiles in acknowledgment and something about him pushes you to continue.
You hesitate for a moment before opening your mouth again. “Would… would you like to accompany me back? I’m working on a prototype and I wouldn’t mind an extra set of hands…” you trail off. The offer hangs in the air, uncertain–a lingering question.
Echo’s comm answers for him. He steps back and you feel the same urge as you felt in the cantina all those days ago to pull him back to you, pull him close to you. You stay stuck by the cart.
“As much as I would like to, duty calls,” he says apologetically, echoing your statement from when you first met him. As he walks backwards, he gives you a lazy salute accompanied with a lopsided smile.
“Until we meet again, Astro!”
And with that, he runs off, leaving you alone with the grouchy driver, mumbling about how he doesn’t get paid enough.
It’s only until you get home and unload the equipment that you realize Echo was the only one who didn’t ask why you were there.

Honestly though between AI discourse, fearmongering about basically every TOS change on every website ever, people noticing how alarming various levels of datamining are but not realizing how widespread it is and blaming all those things on singular websites, and so much more...holy fucking shit the level of computer and internet illiteracy in a population that is now so dependent on the internet is absolutely unconscionable and needs to be recognized as a MASSIVE societal failing.
"Did you know this website's TOS says they can use images you upload for ANY commercial purpose FOREVER? omg take all your stuff down NOW and stay safe!" They NEED to claim that right to display your work on a commercial website that intends to build new features over time in the first place. Fortunately for you, they know they'd lose a LOT of consumer trust if they suddenly opened up a marketplace that gave no money back to creators or otherwise started selling it and claiming all the money for themselves, because yeah, in this corporate hellscape, they probably WOULD if they could!
"I didn't consent to you scraping my image data for the 'more like this' function!" Yes you did, that's in the TOS that you didn't read, and even if you didn't Google would be doing it anyway as long as it's publicly available because legally no one can stop them.
"I can't believe they're not letting us block search engines from indexing our profiles now, only letting us discourage them, what an evil thing of this website to do!" That's all you were able to do in the first place. If it is publicly available, there is no way to block it from being indexed. Most search engines respect do-not-index requests - in fact, it's in their own best interest to do so for both consumer trust AND saving computing power - but legally and technologically there is no way to stop a webcrawler from just looking at those flags and going "how about I do anyway?" short of login-walling it or otherwise making it unavailable to the general public.
"Oh wow these geoguessr guys are impressive!" And terrifying. They should serve as a very valuable reminder to be extremely careful with what shows up in the backgrounds of your photos. You don't want to get doxxed just because someone thought it'd be cool to show off their nifty skills, especially if you're a marginalized person in any way.
"This website's TOS says they'll turn you over to the cops, never work with these evil bootlickers!" They are actually required to comply with warrants and subpoenas or else face the consequences for what YOU do themselves, and they don't know you from Adam, so why would they??? Don't use public commercial websites to talk about doing illegal shit if you don't want to get caught??? Some platforms can protect themselves by not keeping logs TO turn over in the first place (many of the better VPNs, for instance, have this as a selling point), but those have their own unique risks and it STILL doesn't protect you from people recognizing your photos or cross-platform username or other info and tracing it to platforms that DO keep logs. Yes, there are some companies that are worse than others - Facebook, for example, is notorious for volunteering info to the cops even when no one asked and the crime committed was to save a life, because they're fucking awful - but this is something you should EXPECT.
"Look at all these permissions that this platform demands! What are they doing with that!?" Yeah, it IS horrifying, now realize that none of that is unique to that platform. No, none of it is unique to Twitter, or Threads, or Bluesky, or TikTok - and the latter of which is ESPECIALLY not an excuse to pull out some racist conspiracy theories about Evil Chinamen Spying On Us Through Our Poor Innocent Youths. It is the result of 20+ years of boiling the frog when it comes to end user data protection. It's why the word "spyware" went from being a description of something we widely knew was bad to a word that old farts (like me I fucking GUESS) yell at clouds because it describes the majority of the modern internet and hardly anyone fucking notices or cares. It's only likely to get worse if shit like KOSA passes. You SHOULD be mad - but not at any one specific platform...except maybe Facebook. Arguably. Not necessarily because they're worse than any other (though they are worse than average), but because they are the one that normalized this shit.
Genuinely, I want to take this moment to call for anyone who has been disturbed by something like this to please, PLEASE, take a brief break from Posting until you take a moment to read up just a LITTLE bit on internet safety and infosec, because this entire situation with these kinds of expectations being so widespread is...not good.

RECENT ECOMMERCE NEWS (INCLUDING ETSY), Early April 2024
Tumblr media
Welcome to my coverage of all the important Etsy and other ecommerce news that microbusinesses need to know! It's been a few weeks since my last update, so there is a fair amount to report.
Want to get the news more often and in a more timely fashion? Please sign up to support my Patreon site, where among other features, I will soon be starting periodical live chats on important topics. (I promise there will be one the day Etsy announces a fee increase)
TOP NEWS & ARTICLES
Etsy has made changes to how processing times and estimated delivery dates work; I covered everything you need to know in this post.
Etsy seems to be sending more Messages to the spam folder, so you may miss a real message. After reading that thread, I checked, and there was one from another seller needing help from just 5 hours ago. Etsy did say engineers are looking into it.
UPS has won the USPS air cargo contract, currently held by FedEx. It kicks in at the end of September. “As of May 31, 2023, FedEx counted the USPS as the largest customer of its Express unit.”
ETSY NEWS
Etsy is rolling out a new seller pricing tool, and it is just as useless as the old version. I posted some early thoughts (with screenshots).
Some shop owners are struggling to cancel Etsy coupons, while others are not having the same problem. Support says the company is aware of the issue.
If you still can't access most of the Etsy forum after the changes on Tuesday March 26, post in this Technical Issues thread so that your account can be fixed.
Periodically, some shops suddenly stop getting deposits. If your shop has recently had a security warning, you may want to check to see if your bank account is still verified with Etsy.
Looks like Etsy has an issue with misrepresenting how many items are left for each listing on the app; I wrote about it here.
Tumblr media
Canadians getting harassed by Etsy to sign up for TurboTax should know that the company has told a seller that it doesn’t import Etsy data into your tax return for you; that is only available for Americans. [If you can’t import your info from your various platforms, my suggestion is use a free online program to file instead; I’ve used Wealthsimple for several years with no issues filing small business taxes; the T-2125 is part of the program.]
Etsy’s activist investor seems to think that the marketplace can “…add more buyers and increase the amount of money they spend on the platform”. But “monetization opportunities” were also mentioned.
Etsy is yet again called out for allowing AI-generated porn on the site. “Several of the available listings also appear to violate existing trademarks — TheStreet identified listings that sell NSFW (not safe for work) AI-generated, suggestive images that appear to mimic Rapunzel from Disney's "Tangled," Princess Jasmine from Disney's "Aladdin" and She-Hulk from Marvel's "She-Hulk."
Etsy has been talking a lot about "image quality" lately, but doesn't really define the term anywhere. While I agree with those that say it is more than image size - Etsy would not have humans curating images to train its AI if "quality" could simply be measured by pixels - note that Google Shopping Ads describe image quality as size. “The resolution of your product images determines its quality. Google considers images with more than 1024 pixels as high-resolution images.”
Apparently Etsy CEO Josh Silverman likes to make “unorthodox, downright risky career decisions” that often involve a ton of responsibility. [Link to podcast in article; I haven’t listened to it]
ECOMMERCE NEWS (minus social media)
General
Patreon’s live chats are now accessible on the web (instead of just the app). A creator can assign moderators, and have chats for different categories of members.
Canadians: beware that new tax rules requiring digital platform operators to report their users’ income to the Canada Revenue Agency are expected for 2025. These laws would make Canada similar to the United States and the United Kingdom, among others.
Amazon
Amazon is struggling to verify the VAT status of many UK sellers, and the fact the company holds all funds until the process is complete means many sellers are without income.
eBay
eBay is offering 3 free “express payouts” to select US sellers by email only, available until June 30th. Money is paid to seller debit cards and can take a half hour or more to receive. (The usual cost is 1.5%.)
If you use eBay For Charity, you may want to check to see if the charity is getting paid, as some apparently are not.
If you advertise on eBay, or just list inconsistently, you may be interested in the marketing trends calendar for 2024. It shows you when certain types of searches peak.
Michaels Makerplace
The landing page for Makerplace sellers doesn’t provide a lot of hard details; some of the actual policies appear once you begin to sign up. Here’s how they define handmade:
Tumblr media
Thanks to Bluesky user Brushfeather for the info.
Shopify
Shopify is putting more effort into large businesses these days, despite its core offerings targeting small and medium-sized businesses for years. [soft paywall; Business Insider] The company “...has made a concerted effort over the last 18 months to introduce more software solutions to win over larger merchants. It has enhanced Shopify Plus, a higher-tier subscription with more features, and launched Hydrogen, a more custom framework geared toward retailers with more complex needs...Shopify introduced Commerce Components, an offering that allows merchants to integrate parts of Shopify's software into their existing tech stack. Mattel was its first retail partner for that product, and Everlane has since adopted Shop Pay as a stand-alone component.”
CEO Tobi Lutke recently received almost $200 million CAD in Shopify stock options, “one of the largest compensation packages in Canadian history.” As company founder, he now has around $8 billion worth of Shopify stock.
CIRRO Fulfillment now integrates with Shopify.
Squarespace
Squarespace is rolling out Squarespace Payments to sellers in the United States, and they expect to add more countries later this year. Fees are in line with other payment processors.
All Other Marketplaces
Mercari is following Depop and is ending seller transaction fees while adding a buyer fee. There is now a seller earnings withdrawal fee of $2, however, plus the pricing only applies to items listed after the announcement on March 27th, and sellers now have to accept returns for any reason, within 72 hours of receipt.  I suppose this fee might work for buyers if many are also sellers on Mercari or elsewhere, and are buying stock. If you see a good deal you know you can flip with a good margin, you might not mind paying a buyers fee on top of the listing price. The only other way I can see being willing to pay a buyers fee is if you are so enamoured with the platform and its culture that it is worth paying more for. Or maybe I am just out of touch… The Mercari CEO basically calls out Etsy for raising seller fees too much [soft paywall; Modern Retail]: “I’m not going to mention them by name, but you have marketplaces that have a lot of makers, a lot of people that create things, and the fees around selling on those platforms have just been going up a lot very aggressively”. [my emphasis] Mercari wants fees to remain competitive while attracting better inventory. Another article on Mercari’s announcement mentions Etsy by name when discussing seller fees.
Mercari might want to consult lawyers the next time the site makes changes, though, as many sellers were furious that their existing balances were now subject to withdrawal fees without any warning, leading some to file complaints with the FTC. That led the company to announce that “On March 27, 2024, Mercari announced that it would begin charging a $2 fee(s) (“ACH Charge”) for all ACH direct deposit requests. Effective immediately through April 3, 2024 at 11:59 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time (“Waiver Period”), Mercari will waive the ACH Charge for ACH direct deposit requests made prior to the end of the Waiver Period for all eligible account holders.” Those who already incurred withdrawal charges will get refunds.
And because apparently you can never have enough Mercari news, they’ve introduced a listing importer for eBay and Depop. It uses AI.
AliExpress will now do livestream shopping events in the UK.
Payment Processing
PayPal users in the US will soon have only 30 days after delivery to file a significantly not described claim in most cases. Items not delivered by 180 days will still have the full 180 days.
Shipping
UPS is planning on closing about 200 facilities in the United States, and hopes to save money by instead using more automated hubs. Having fewer employees and consolidating locations is expected to save the company around $3 billion by the end of 2028.
FedEx is continuing to combine its Express and Ground pickups and deliveries, both to save money and to make pickups easier on customers.

The Festival - Developer Log 2, 1/03/2024
Hello! It’s been an eventful two months since I last checked in, but I am happy to say that I have made an incredible amount of progress.
As I mentioned in the last devlog, I had two major milestones I needed to complete by the end of the Fall 2023 semester. Those were the script for the game’s pilot quest (codenamed “Hemmingward”), and the second was a prototype environment of the titular festival fairgrounds (pictured above). Today, I will go into more detail on both of these.
Hemmingward
In pursuit of a secret recipe, Nishma is roped into solving a decade-old mystery, and putting a village’s trauma to rest.
Tumblr media
This quest starts with Nishma and Gil entering the titular village of Hemmingward, an isolated hamlet tucked away in the woods. Nishma wants to learn the secrets behind their fabled Mandrake Meat, a vegetarian meat-like dish that is incredibly difficult to produce. However, the duo run into a foreign businessman, Helvan Dynicus, who is trying to buy the recipe off the villagers for himself – without much success. Once Nishma and Gil get to talk with the village elders themselves, they learn that the villagers suspect this businessman is actually a former government officer who rounded up all the village men for conscription some fifteen years ago. The elders – Margot, Camaltha, and Eurydice - ask Nishma to confirm their suspicions, and the player can choose to accept or refuse this quest.
Tumblr media
I first started work on this quest in early April 2023, beginning a preliminary script in the form of a Twine game in May. However, despite my early progress, I wound up getting bogged down trying to write tons of branching dialogue. I was biting off more than I could chew, and it wasn’t until the beginning of last December that I finally finished a first draft for the quest. Even then, the first third of this quest underwent no less than three rewrites, and the draft sits at roughly 80 pages of dialogue. Writing this first draft was a messy process, but I finally got it done.
With this completed, I can move on to translating the script into a real playable demo. That’s going to be the overarching goal for Spring 2024, and I’ll unpack more of what that entails in a minute. But first, I want to talk about my second milestone.
The Festival Fairgrounds
Tumblr media
I made the above image as my final for a class on creating environments in Unreal Engine 5. While I originally conceived of this project as a means of creating an image that could be used for the poster for the game, the assignment guidelines stated that the end result must be explorable by a player. For that reason, I took a shot at fleshing out what the titular festival would look like.
In my vision for the game, the fairgrounds would serve as the last level of the game, where the player’s choices on how to organize the festival would come to fruition, and Nishma would have to run around and complete a series of miniquests centered on keeping the festival running as things get hectic. Most of the chaos will be based on the regular hustle and bustle of your average festival, though some events may be dependent on choices the player made before.
Tumblr media
I produced a litany of 3D models for this scene, from the colorful tents to the stone walls to the cathedral in the distance, all the way to the junk that litters the ground. What’s more, I was able to incorporate an asset pack for a dialogue system I got off the Unreal Marketplace (The Defender: Animated Dialogue System Pack by Game Dev Voyager), and even animate Nishma so that a player can navigate the environment as her. You can view a demo of Nishma wandering the scene below:
youtube
This took a lot of work the past two months along with the script for the Hemmingward quest, but I am damn proud of the work I put into both. This new year comes with many challenges to overcome, but I can rest a little easier knowing I finished the previous term strong with these two milestones.
Next Steps
For the Spring 2024 term, I will be translating the Hemmingward script into a fully playable quest. It will not have the fully branching dialogue I wanted for this iteration, but it will contain multiple endings as Nishma and the player must decide on a resolution for the villagers’ grievances.
For the beginning of the next semester, two things I need to have in hand are:
1.) a shopping list of every asset and mechanic I plan on incorporating into this demo quest, and
2.) a write-up of all the different characters involved.
For my next developer logs (dates TBD), I will post more about the game’s cast, starting with Nishma Mauranyan, along with the world she inhabits.

WHY DO YOU GIVE US THESE RELIGIOUS TITLES? THEY SEEM ABSURD. OUTSIDE THE ASHRAM INDIANS SELDOM CALL ME SWAMI WITH A STRAIGHT FACE.
You must be hankering for it. I have not called you swami to be swami for others. The word 'swami' means lord. Don't hanker for others to call you lord. I have called you swami just to indicate your path -- so that you become lord of yourself. It is not to make others slaves to you, it is just to make a master of you. The word 'swami' is intended for self-mastery. So don't feel frustrated if nobody calls you swami. In fact, if somebody calls you swami, be alert, because there is danger. You may start thinking that you are a swami, you may start thinking that you are some holy man or something. Don't carry that type of nonsense. I am not here to make you holy or saintly or anything. You ask why I give you these religious titles, because they seem absurd. They are. Really my whole intention is to make you so ridiculous, so absurd, that others laugh at you and you-can also laugh at yourself. That is the whole trick in it.
And for another purpose also I call you swami. I give you these religious titles because to me the profane and the sacred are not two separate things: the profane is the sacred, the ordinary is the extraordinary, and the natural is the super-natural.
God is not somewhere away from the world. God is in the world, immanent. That's my whole approach…that everything is divine as it is. The old concept of a religious man is that he is anti-life. He condemns this life, this ordinary life -- he calls it mundane, profane, illusion. He denounces it. I am so deeply in love with life that I cannot denounce it. I am here to enhance the feeling for it.
When I give you these religious titles I am not making you in any way superior to others. Don't carry any idea of 'holier than you', don't carry any idea of that sort. That is stupid.
I give you these orange clothes. These clothes have been used for centuries down through the ages for a specific purpose -- to make a demarcation between the ordinary life and the religious life. I want to dissolve all those differences. Hence I give you these robes and I don't take you away from life.
You will be sitting in ordinary life, working in ordinary life, walking in ordinary life. You will be in the marketplace, you will be in the shop or in the factory, you will be a labourer, a doctor, an engineer. I am not making you special in any way -- because that very desire to become special is irreligious. And I have given you these robes to destroy the whole concept completely. That's why the traditional sannyasins are very much against me. I am destroying their whole superiority. Now sooner or later there will be no distinction. My swamis are growing so fast that the old traditional swamis will be simply lost in the jungle of my swamis. And people will not know who is who. That's the purpose behind it. I want to make religious life ordinary life, because this is the only life there is. All else is just an ego trip. And this life is so beautiful, there is no need to create another life superior to it. Go deeper into it, move deeper into it, and profounder depths will be revealed to you. This ordinary life is carrying tremendous possibilities. So I don't want you to become religious in the sense that others are not religious. I want to drop all distinctions between the profane and the sacred, between the holy and the unholy. It is a great revolution. You may not even be aware of what is happening. And if the traditionalists are against me, I can understand. I am destroying their whole'holier than you' attitude.
That's why I have chosen the orange particularly. That has been the traditional dress for sannyasins. But I have chosen only the dress nothing else is there in you -- nothing else of the traditional discipline. There is just awareness, a love for Life, a respect for life, a reverence for life. I have given you the orange robe, but the day I see that now the traditional distinction has been destroyed, I will free you from the orange robe. There is no need then. But it will take time because they have been creating the distinction for centuries. You cannot conceive of what is happening. When an orange-robed sannyasin walks with his girlfriend on the street, you cannot conceive what is happening. It has never happened in India, not for ten thousand years. People cannot believe it -- and you are expecting that they should call you swami? It is enough that they are not killing you! You are destroying their whole tradition. A sannyasin was one who would never LOOK at a woman. Touching was out of the question -- and holding the hand, impossible! That was enough to throw him into hell.
I have made you a totally new kind of sannyasin. It is a neo-sannyas. And behind whatsoever I am doing there is a method. You may be aware of it or not. I want to destroy the whole traditional attitude. Life should be religious and religion should not have any life. The distinction between the marketplace and the monastery should not be there. The monastery Should be in the marketplace; the divine dimension should become part of everyday life.
Somebody asked Bokoju, 'What do you do? What is your religious discipline?' He said, 'I live an ordinary life. That is my discipline. When I feel hungry I eat, and when I feel sleepy I sleep.' Yes, this is exactly how it should be. The questioner was puzzled. He said, 'But I don't see anything special in it.' Bokoju said, 'That is the point. There is nothing special.' All hankering for the special is of the ego.
The questioner was still puzzled. He said, 'But this is what everybody else is doing -- when hungry they eat, when feeling sleepy they sleep.' Bokoju laughed. He said, 'No, when you eat, you do a thousand and one things also. You think, you dream, you imagine, you remember. You are not there Just eating. When I eat, I simply eat. Then there is only eating and nothing else. It is pure. When you sleep you do a thousand and one things -- you dream, fight, have nightmares. When I sleep I simply sleep, there is nothing else. When sleep is there, there is only sleep. Not even Bokoju exists. When eating is there, there is only eating. Not even Bokoju exists. When there is walking, there is only walking -- no Bokoju. There is walking, simply walking.
This is what I would like you to become. Be ordinary, but bring a quality of awareness to your ordinary life. Bring God to your ordinary life, introduce God into your ordinary life. Sleep, eat, love, pray, meditate, but don't think that you are making or doing something special. And then you will be special. A man who is ready to live an ordinary life is an extraordinary man. Because to be extraordinary, to desire to be extraordinary, is a very ordinary desire. To relax and to be ordinary is really extraordinary.
Osho.

Is Esty a profitable eCommerce platform?
Selling on Etsy
Countless times, I've received frustrated reports from Etsy sellers, both old and new, on how draining it's been to make sales on Etsy. Oftentimes, these cries get so loud, it overshadows the voices of those who claim Etsy has been a literal lifesaver to them. What truth then, is one to take?
Finding the actual truth is challenging, so all I can offer now are the facts.
Etsy wasn't designed to keep stores in a state of perpetual loss. That would only mean putting themselves in bankruptcy! Etsy was designed to connect sellers with prospective buyers and the more this happened, the more the credibility of the platform as a point of exchange/marketplace, rose.
From its inception in 2005 till date, Etsy has seen rapid growth from a marketplace of just 120,000 traders to one that connects 81.9 million buyers to 4.36 million sellers! Its annual revenue is at an all-time $1.72b with no signs of slowing down. It took a lot of trustworthiness and credibility to get to that number, I tell you. But it was also due to the fact that there were fewer competition then.
Now, Etsy is fiercely competitive, and its algorithm has been wired to even cut back on inactive profiles, or those found violating one of their quite many terms of service. All these are just to reduce the level of competition and create a level playing field for all. Yet, it doesn't seem to be enough. A lot of people still find it a herculean task to attract customers to their stores.
In the midst of all these though, there are still those who make a lot of money off Etsy annually. So why not you?
This could be due to a number of reasons. Most people come on Etsy, setup their shop the best way they can, list a few products, and viola! They expect the thousands to begin flowing in. No ma'am, no sir, it doesn't work that way.
A lot of people overlook the significance of SEO in giving their shop much-needed visibility. Keywords pertaining to your brand have to be fully optimized in your complete shop setup. No, your Etsy shop setup doesn't just require your email, password, banner, logo, and shop name. Those are the basics but there's a lot that still needs to be done underneath. Those who are able to optimize their keywords in their shop setup will have a higher visibility than those who weren't.
For each product listing also, relevant keywords are crucial. The title of the product, description, tags, and even the uploaded document have to be fully optimized to drag traffic back to your Etsy store. Don't forget your FAQs too.
Apart from Search Engine Optimization, social media platforms can also be integrated to your store. Your shop link will serve as a backlink, making access to your store relatively easy. Make sure to optimize tags in whatever platform you might be marketing your products on.
Asides Etsy ads, there are also a number of ways to promote your store. Sites that promote backlink traffic can also come in handy despite popular belief if it is used in the right hands. Submission of guest posts to websites is also an available option. I kid you not when I say article and blog post writing can also serve as a promotion strategy.
There are quite too many ways to market your Etsy shop and product. Way too many, it'll be impossible for me to list it all. A candid advice I will leave with you however, is that you procure the help of a professional to serve as a consultant, or help with with your store's management if it gets all too much/complicated for you to handle alone.
On a final note, remember that no matter how incredible your product might be, if it isn't given an aesthetic feel, it will be stuck on the self for a very long time. So, also pay particular attention to your shop and also your product's outlook.

I wish you the very best!

Kam's 2000 Honda Civic - The "Un-shitbox" Era
From the time I was knee-high to a grasshopper, my fascination with cars was already in full gear. Picture a fourth-grader, wide-eyed and excited, collecting Hot Wheels like they were precious gems. But, my true automotive odyssey began when the school bell rang, and I would race to my friend's house to play Gran Turismo 4 and Midnight Club: Los Angeles on the PlayStation 2.
As the pixels danced on the screen, I found myself captivated by watching the race replays and attempting to capture the "perfect" photo – the kind that you’d find in the glossy pages of car magazines. And so, my journey into the realm of automotive photography ignited.
Around that time, my older brothers were like modern-day mechanics, forever bringing home various models of Toyotas: an '80s MR2, a trio of Z20 Soarers, and a rare Toyota Aerocabin; our driveway resembled a makeshift garage. My adventure into car ownership was marked by an AE92 Corolla, but my teenage stubbornness veered me toward a 2006 Ford Focus hatch, courtesy of an aversion to the Corolla's short shifter gearbox. Hindsight whispers that I should've stuck with the Corolla, yet the die was cast, and the Ford Focus introduced me to the world of compact cars, eventually paving the way for my 2000 Honda Civic.
I got the Civic in November 2021 during a tough time in my life. It was bone-stock, except for a few upgrades from the previous owner, like an Integra DC5 steering wheel and a set of GSR Blades. At first, I had big plans. I wanted to wrap it in baby blue, get smoked headlights and taillights, a Type R Wing, and Enkei RPF1s. The definition of being a really immature car enthusiast, more interested in making it look cool rather than making it drive better; then again. what else would you expect from a 21-year-old with limited mechanical knowledge.
My interest in the EK Civic came from a family friend named Simon, aka Joydrive. He made a video series documenting his Racewars build, and later buying the now infamous, yellow "ClichEK." I liked the way these cars were designed and having driven a Ford Focus for most of my time on the road, it made sense to get something similar in size.
My Civic remained untouched for a while, other than the addition of EK9 cup holders, a concession to my partner's beverage-holding fatigue during gear changes. This was a subtle upgrade but one that would prove hugely appreciated in the future. Life was good. I had my dream car which was in good condition for its age and reasonably priced (something that is hard to find in the post-covid car market), then came the transformative phase. I bought a new front bumper, front lip, and Type R grille, as well as "angel eye" headlights, and rear lip, which is still in my garage waiting to be put on as I write this.
Tumblr media
The plot thickened on a fateful commute home from work when I had a run-in with a BMW X5 on the highway. The envisioned “RICE” build took a backseat as smashed headlights and a misaligned engine bay/ bonnet demanded attention. Salvaging replacement parts from the wreckers, I resurrected my Civic, mechanically intact but aesthetically bruised. It was demotivating to spend time and money making it look a certain way, only to have it go back to how it was before. Time passed and it simply existed as just another car, until Simon made a video revealing the upgrades he made to his build.
Tumblr media
Fast forward to today, other than hitting a tow ball at the end of 2023, the car remains the same since I fixed it after the accident. I found my dream wheels on Facebook Marketplace, which was a feel-good moment, and after speaking to a couple of people, the road ahead is clear. Cut and polish, installation of the front and rear lip, coilovers so I can put the RPF1s on, and install the replacement number plates which are on its way. The trajectory now leans towards a clean, OEM plus build; a different path from what I first envisioned. For those who are interested in infrequent Civic updates, I often post progress photos on my car Instagram (@EK1WA), until next time; welcome to the “Un-shitbox” chapter.

Someone used to love this.

And this too. This is really similar to the one above but it was labeled for sale as a bust and in a different booth. There wasn’t any hardware to indicate it being a lamp but maybe it was in a former life. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't let that old car sit there collecting dust. Get 500 Cash for Junk Cars and say goodbye to your junk car troubles today.
Methods for Selling Junk Cars
youtube
When selling your junk car, start by searching for established junk car buyer networks and marketplaces. These platforms provide a convenient way to connect with potential buyers and increase your chances of getting a fair price for your vehicle.
As you navigate through the selling process, it's essential to employ effective negotiation tactics to maximize your profit. One strategy is to compare bids and leverage offers against each other. By doing so, you can create a competitive environment and potentially secure a higher payout.
Additionally, utilizing marketing strategies can help attract more buyers to your listing. This includes posting classified ads on platforms like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and local newspapers, and including important details and descriptive words to make your ad stand out.
Tips for Selling Junk Cars
To maximize your profit when selling your junk car, start by comparing bids and leveraging offers against each other. Here are four tips for selling junk cars:
Selling junk cars online: Search for established junk car buyer networks and marketplaces. Read reviews and verify licensing and certifications. Select a reputable site and enter information about your car. Receive quotes from certified junk car removal specialists. Select the best cash offer and get it in writing.
Selling junk cars to junkyards: Use online directories or local Yellow Pages to find nearby junkyards and recyclers. Look for junkyard signs in industrial areas. Ask mechanics, body shops, and car dealers for recommendations. Discuss your car's details and assess its components and metals. Negotiate for the best offer price and inquire about environmental disposal.
How Junk Car Removal Works
To further maximize your profit when selling your junk car, let's dive into how junk car removal works. Selling to auto recyclers is a popular option, and there are several benefits of using junk car removal services.
When you search for junk car removal online, you can find national networks that offer this service. After confirming their licensing and reading reviews, you can enter your vehicle details on their website or schedule a free quote by phone. They'll assess your car's recycling parts value and provide you with a firm instant quote.
If you accept the quote, a licensed tow truck driver will be dispatched to remove your car free of charge on a set date. At pickup, the driver will perform a final inspection, hand you the payment, and tow the car away.
With junk car removal services, you can profitably unload your old clunker and have the convenience of a hassle-free car removal process.
Determining the Value of Your Car
To determine the value of your car, start by getting a free quote from a reputable cash-for-cars service. Researching the market for junk car prices is important because several factors can affect the value of junk cars.
Here are four key factors to consider:
Condition: The overall condition of your car, including the engine, body, and interior, can significantly impact its value. A car in better condition will generally fetch a higher price.
Make and Model: Different makes and models have varying demand in the market. Popular and sought-after brands may fetch a higher price compared to less desirable ones.
Age and Mileage: Older cars with higher mileage typically have lower value due to wear and tear. However, certain vintage or classic cars may have higher value regardless of their age.
Market Trends: The demand for certain car parts, metals, and recyclable materials can fluctuate, affecting the value of junk cars. Researching the current market trends can help you gauge the potential value of your car.
Benefits of Selling Junk Cars
Selling your junk car offers numerous benefits. One of the advantages is the ability to negotiate prices when selling to scrapyards. Unlike traditional car sales, where the price is often fixed, selling a junk car allows you to have some control over the price you receive. By negotiating with scrapyards, you can try to get the best offer for your old vehicle.
Additionally, selling to scrapyards offers the convenience of a quick and simple process. Instead of dealing with the complexities of selling a used car, you can easily sell your junk car to a scrapyard and receive fair compensation.
Conclusion
So, if you're tired of that old junk car taking up space and want to turn it into quick cash, selling it through cash for junk car services is the way to go.
With the simple and hassle-free process, you can easily find reputable buyers, negotiate the best offer, and enjoy the benefits of a fast and profitable solution.
Say goodbye to the headaches and hello to extra cash in your pocket. Sell your junk car today!
