This feels ridiculous and embarrassing to admit, but I can't admit this anywhere else, so I need to revive this blog for a minute to vent.

I feel so depressed that Omegle's gone. For me, it was such an integral part of my fandom life - I felt like I'd literally die if I couldn't somehow pretend that I inhabit the worlds that I'd come to so intensely love, whether the source material is from a book, a show, a movie, a comic... and combined with how much I love creative writing, written roleplays were perfect.

I didn't realize how much I'd integrating roleplaying into my little routines until I found out that avenue was permanently closed today.

It's so stupid. I know life goes on, it's a new beginning, at least I had this for nearly a decade and I still have 3 active roleplays going that originated from Omegle, blah blah blah.

It just feels like there's less of an escape from real life - I don't want to have to go back to only reading/writing fanfictions and having a fandom-centric tumblr.

This all sounds so whiney and not how I meant it to come off; sorry about that.

I'm just sitting here wondering what to do with my life now as I grieve that part of my fandom life (again, yes. I know: life goes on. It'll be fine. I'll be fine).

I don't know. I know things like RPNation exist, but it just doesn't hit the same; I don't want to feel like I have to go online fishing in the hopes that I might get lucky and get a decent rp partner.

It always felt like as long as I could mentally disappear into my favorite worlds for a while, everything would be okay. And now that this big emotional crutch is gone, I'm just floundering and panicking.

Which, again, is so ridiculous and embarrassing to admit.

Just hoping that by venting a little and grieving publicly at my own expense, maybe it'll be easier to move on.

I roleplayed the crackship Blyder (Blaine x Ryder) from the Glee fandom, on Omegle with somebody, in a personalised tag, for around 7 years. We never swapped contact details (crazy, I know), and if you’re reading this, I miss you and all of our crazy plots and musings; even if you don’t want to roleplay anymore now that Omegle is gone, I’d like to even just have the chance to say goodbye, I looked forward to playing with you at the end of the day for the better part of a decade, so this abrupt end just doesn’t feel right. Let’s get one thing straight and two things gay

Hey! I’m not dead! Just real fuckin tired!

I’m sure I’ve complained about it here and maybe even on main but I need to get going a second time if only to get it off my chest

The first issue, I’ve seen it before plenty, it’s nothing new, I’m sure anyone who goes into roleplay circles has seen it. As anyone involved in fiction these days knows, there’s a lot of popular m/m ships. As a bisexual woman, I like a lot of these ships. It might seem odd, but they’re comfortable for me because while I can see myself in the characters, I’m comfortable with being a woman and most of them I see comfortable in their masculinity, to whatever extent they are. There’s a division of me and them, but it’s still gay so it makes my little gay heart happy.

But a thing that really….I don’t want to say it pisses me off, but it kind of pisses me off….let’s say it irritates me, is when that gay ship is turned into a straight ship. I’m fully aware and support bisexuals in m/f relationships, and I’m not saying m/f ships are any less valuable or valid. But taking a gay ship and making it straight, it’s not my thing. I legitimately hate it. I’m not here for two boys being turned into a girl and a boy, I’m here for there to be two boys. That’s the intent. And this isn’t about seeing one or both of the characters as any sort of trans or gender fluid, it’s the prompts outright saying it’s just one character is now fem. I hate it. And the fact that normally it’s the more stereotypically “feminine” man? Insanely offensive to me. But that’s whatever, that point is less important than fully turning a m/m ship into a m/f ship. And I feel the same for f/f ships too, like stop taking a gay ship and making it fit in your neat little straight gender roll boxes. If I wanted a m/f ship, I’d be in a tag for an m/f ship. There are plenty of those out there for the fandoms I’m in. I’m not there on purpose!

The second issue tying in with this is about a/b/o. Now listen, I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, it’s not my cup of tea. I can fully admit that I really don’t like pregnancy, because it’s a real thing for me, it’s something I might go through and I don’t really want to go through it, so I don’t want to have it as a central focus of my fics or roleplays. So mpreg is a big no for me and so is a/b/o simply because it’s usually a part of it or referenced or whatever. But sometimes I’ll give it a shot because hey, why not, it’s good to try new things and if my partner is good then it’ll be worth it. But so many of the prompts I keep seeing are setting it up with those (again) neat little gender boxes of the more feminine character being all submissive and an omega and giving up all sense of agency for the alpha character. I hate it! I hate it so much! It’s one of the big reasons I don’t go into that type of fic and actively cut out that tag! Because you’re taking three dimensional characters and instead of using that trope to fit them, to keep them vivid and real, you’re tucking them into a mold and removing aspects of them that are important pieces. You’re taking a character who’s whole schtick is being witty and strong even after moments of vulnerability and weakness and making them into a cardboard cutout that wilts with the misting of a spray bottle. People like making a character dark, great! You do you! But when every fucking prompt is one character being fem or the same character being an omega and so convoluted that the entire character is essentially missing, that’s a fucking problem!

I’m so tired of it! I ran across maybe ten prompts in an hour of clicking through and of those ten I want to say there was maybe one or two that weren’t making a gay ship fold into the neat little boxes of “this is the man and this is the woman”. If I was dating a woman, I would be so fucking pissed off if I got asked “so which one of you is the man” and that’s essentially what’s being done to these male ships. I. Fucking. Hate. It. If you want a ship of a man and a woman, they’re right there, stop turning a gay ship straight.

It’s exhausting, trying to find a prompt where I’m not immediately clicking away. And fuck it, I’ll say the big one that I’m debating once again deleting my tag on Omegle because I’m so tired of the forced heterosexuality, it’s Stony. I’m so tired of people turning Tony into a woman or a sad little omega who can’t do anything without Steve okaying it. It not only butchers the characters, it’s just so boring. It’s constant. I connect and I read a few words of a prompt and I know it’s either the same person every time or the same couple people because it’s the same few prompts every day. Just on repeat because, I have to assume based on how frequent I see them, no one is actually going through with these prompts. Because why would I be looking for a straight ship in a gay tag.

So in conclusion, I’m gay and tired of my gay ships being made straight. So let’s get one thing straight here (just the one) if I wanted a sanitized m/f relationship where the woman was dull and the man was a copy/paste of an image of toxic masculinity, I’d watch hallmark movies. And let’s get two things gay, the ships as they are, and me, who just wants to see two men be soft and masculine and grow as people in love.

And maybe some smut, but that’s more selective

Strangers on the internet fascinate me. People get SO mad that my ooc notes say that I’m down for whatever ship we matched on, including poly combinations of those ships. It’s not just in this fandom either. Like, calm the fuck down my dude.

I find it terribly amusing (read: not really) when people pretend like they haven't outright stolen a prompt. If I ever get inspired by an rp prompt or a fanfiction, I always give credit. It's not that difficult to come up with your own ideas.

People are just selfish and rude and I swear the decline in the rp community on omegle has been going down for years.
