Fallen Star remains on top. I'm just such a certified tragedy bitch. I actually cried at work listening to the audiobook/reading it while on lunch a couple times (ok it was also shark week I once cried over a sock during shark week). I also really enjoyed the foray into more space horror bits, Gray did the parts where they go searching for the spooky anomaly really well. And Bell of course was perfect <3 I love Bell. Sad bb. Also why Rising Storm is a close second, he's so great in that too, plus Indeera (and Elzar Mann being a stupid slut*) (*affectionate)

Honestly I think 3 + 4 are kind of a tie I really enjoyed both of them! Into the Dark just slipped a bit because 1) Cohmac annoyed me this time and 2) I LOVE Vernestra. So much. But really both had the right blend of emotion and adventure and peril for me, but being YA I think they had to hold back on fully exploring the consequences and its follow-through of the more traumatic events, so I didn't quite get the same 'omg this is everything' catharsis feeling that the top two adult books provided.

The jump between #5 and #6 is a PRECIPITOUS decline. I honestly feel like I should put a few blank spots between them, spot #5 is much closer to #4 than it is to #6. Because the difference between #5 Light of the Jedi 'I appreciate the difficult task Soule had to introduce the context and a huge cast of characters, I just don't think he entirely succeeded, the opening incident action description drags a bit and some of the emotional beats only hit in hindsight, once you've had some time with other writers fleshing out characters, like Jora Malli's death, but overall it was enjoyable and got me interested in the series' and #6 Midnight Horizon 'I hated about 85% of this, I think it was supposed to be funny but the humor missed for me so completely that at one point the secondhand embarrassment made me physically nauseous and it almost made me stop reading (again)' is so stark it feels like they shouldn't be next to each other.

Older!Alois Trancy - discovering the 'truth'

Again, and I mentioned this for those who aren't familiar with my post and a crack theory I saw circling around; the idea is that Alois is actually THE Alois mentioned in season 2. You know, the son of Earl Trancy and his late wife who offed herself due to the "kidnapping" of her son? So, imagine Claude suggested this fabricated story, thinking it too unbelievable to possibly be the truth, only for the young, naive 14-year-old Alois to think it perfect to trick his "uncle" with. In this case........ it wasn't a fabricated story by Alois when Arnold Trancy came over. "Jim Macken" is his name, the name given to him by the couple who adopted him as a baby.

Anyways...

In no way do I see him taking this news well. That's the understatement of the century, but you know what I mean.

Even if Claude didn't yeet him into the afterlife and nom nom on his soul at the end of S2, I can still sort of see the rivalry between him and Ciel throughout the years. Either way, I digress: let's say Alois - for one reason or another - is able to celebrate a few more birthdays past his canon age of 14. So, now he's a young adult and is suddenly staring the cold, cruel truth right in its face.

How, exactly, the truth of him being the biological son of the late Earl Trancy being discovered is something that could have happened in many ways. The most likely way I see this happening is that Claude got pretty tired of Alois' "boring" soul and decided to stir the pot. It isn't out of the realm of possibility to see Claude unearth some secrets of the Trancy estate in order to... alter Alois mental state so that it may affect the "flavor" of his soul.

Now, in Alois' extreme grief and PTSD coming back full force upon such a horrific revelation, his soul is now more appealing to Claude (yippie -_-).

No servant in that household is prepared or equipped for the incredibly detached and (even more) unstable young man they serve under. Most days I can see Alois staring blankly, mind going at super speeds. Hardly anyone can get through to him. But, as I said, the flavor of his soul is now more appealing to Claude. That little shit knows what he did stirring the pot and is waiting patiently for his mental state to "burn even hotter."

I can only see Alois working through this if he had a companion. In this case, the reader. They are a human, they have emotions, they can understand him. It's really all they can do to help him through such heavy news. And even if Alois is older now and has mentally and emotionally matured ever-so-slightly (i am a firm believer he has bpd but that's another can of worms), he is still in the process of growing as a person. So, having an actual person in his life whom he trusts and cares for deeply, and boy does he care deeply (scorpio energy fr), he will not ever forget it nor will he ever let them go. They are his rock, his safe place, his only anchor to the world. If he can't trust anyone, then he can trust them. In fact, it may just be the catalyst towards a future marriage proposal.

this episode just leaves me in tatters, in a very different way to ep 10.

this episode is so fucking sad. like, in the really accurate way sadness like this shows up. where of course they go fishing, flirt, hang out, smile, laugh, but the baseline emotion for this episode is this sadness. it's this kind of exhaustion and the knowledge that somethings hanging over their heads.

its the kind of sadness that somethings over and choosing not to look at it can push it away for a bit, but the ending still permeates the episode.

there's so much sky in this episode. they're really shown to be together in spaces that overtake them. but also together in the world in public, outside and not hidden, always looking at each other.

there are so many shots in this ep where you can see they're both struggling and tired. and still they choose each other.

also the parallel that pat asks pran to not talk about something, where the last time at the village pran asked pat. ugh this show.

i really love the domesticity

also the way pat looks at pran in this ep.

and patpran in the foreground with tong and yod in the back. like a sign of: people can stick to what they believe in and still get old and live good lives, even if its tiring. this show doing the queer it gets better shit but in one shot and perfectly.

the emotional turmoil is never about their relationship for pran they're a certainty. through the whole episode it's clear that they're grappling with their parents and the fallout and not with each other and i deeply appreciate that.

the space to have complicated difficult emotions without it becoming a problem in your relationship, that's some rare shit (in a bl but also in life lol).

also, relationships are hard. and the things you like about someone can change, they can become annoying to you, or they can disappear. the fact that the thing they both chose about each other are, being nosy enough to be helpful and being a lot in every way, they're saying that they know that the other person isn't perfect and nor is their relationship. but they chose them anyway, because of it and not despite it.

just yeah, they deserve so much of this and more. i'm so glad they get it.

and the other conversation that also leaves me in tears (this ep is just tears for me).

it's pat coming back to pran's 'as long i have you' and responding in kind. letting him know that pran's enough for him too, and they can hide and live how they need to because he's realized that.

it is heartbreaking that this is what they have in the end. it's the ending that pran had already realized and accepted, finally being acknowledged by pat. because they might not be breaking up but they are. they're losing the relationship they could have had, an easy comfortable one supported by everyone they know, and instead have to carve out a tiny space to survive. and they do it because they know that this space is precious to them, but it's still fucking sad that they had to. (and again, this show is so queer, because these are the relationships and decisions that so many queer people have to make every fucking day and bb conveyed it so well and with such nuance)

and then this song, which i love. and this lovely incredible inkpa moment.

but also the fact that kornwai show up in this montage and then didn't get together. like p'aof knew what the fuck he was doing. and yes, unlike the other two couple they're leaning away from each other, but fuck you can't just drop them into a love song montage and not have it imply things. it implies things!!!

ok so i'm sure no one was thinking about this but this scene reminds of this fucking k3g scene where the father comes and blesses the couple and my mind can't let it go. because it feels like with the line "the world didn't change me either" tong gave his blessing for patpran to live the life they wanted to lead. and idk i'm always emotional about k3g connections.

and this final shot, to really just dig in the knife in my heart. the closing with the knowledge that this will be the last time in a long while that pran gets to sing out his love for pat, and that part of them choosing each other is sacrificing other parts of their dreams.

i'm just fully not ok about this ep and likely never will be. i'm sure that is clear from the ramblings above.

JM's handlers & team are awful. They don't follow protocol. They don't communicate properly beforehand with venues JM is supposed to attend, that much is clear, otherwise JM would have been let out on the side with the fans, the way the other celebs were. The aggression and shoving of photographers who are paid to be at events to take pictures of Jimin who is paid to be at an event and take pictures. What is this dumb logic? He has way too many bodyguards and team members with him inside these venues crowding him, when he is supposed to be mingling with industry hotshots. That is the whole point of these events. At most he needs 1 translator, his manager and 1 bodyguard, while in the facilities. Outside is a different story & going to and from his car. His team usually overpowers his shots. You will see JM with 6 other people blocking his shots. His team puts JM in a bad light. Dior was a damn mess & this time was still a bit of a mess.

Look at Tae in Paris. I hate to compare because Tae was ready as hell to go solo, he said it himself, so he doesn't want no one else crowding his spotlight not even his team. It was mainly just him, going around taking pics with anyone who wanted a pic, even randoms on the street & at most, you'd find maybe a team of 2-3 people with Tae and definitely not pushing and shoving. He was able to do his event right. Now JM is more nervous and more shy. And maybe his bodyguards feel they need to protect him more. He and JK seem to be alike with shyness. AKA JK at the premiere and JM looking around nervously for Hobi at Dior. Overtime JM will get more comfortable. He did look at bit more relaxed this time, but he still has way too many team members crowding him.

IN other words, JM's team makes him very unapproachable, cause of how aggressive they are and how much they crowd him. I don't mean fans. I mean industry people saying they couldn't even meet him or get pics. Like are they dumb? Hybe mismanages him so bad, its infuriating to watch. Jimin has potential to be a big solo star, we are talking Britney, Prince, MJ, Elvis, level and Hybe has done everything in their power to gloss over everything. From his #1 on BB to not sending in his music, to mishandling him at important events. Fuck them.

Ocelot is so interesting and tragic and insane because he was essentially raised in and molded for a world that the patriots weren’t so much dedicated to building as much as they believed that a man from such a world would be the perfect spy and ocelot is only able to find affirmation of such a world in the eyes and heart of Big Boss. He’s like an otter in the desert that fell in love with a goldfish in a bowl, the most water he’s ever seen in his life. A goldfish that tells him stories of the sea, a magical wonderful place neither of them have ever actually known.

actually on this ive been thinking thoughts abt the philosophers etc bc i recently saw a page from the mgs4 novel on my dash, and like phew. the 'my insignificant personality' bit is very interesting and tasty to me....... i guess from childhood he's been raised to be an actor, to play numerous roles, as part of being a spy, and as such is used to sort of burying his true personality very deep, or pushing it aside. repressing it all. and i think...

like i often think of him in relation to bosselot as being like. he's raised to be working for various organisations, to be devoted to the philosophers and their will, and from childhood he's given all these ideas beyond his age about countries and politics and all these faceless organisations or powers, and i think of him as when he finds bb, it's like all that falls away and he suddenly finds someONE who's worth devoting his life, his skills to instead.

and maybe HE thinks of it as being far superior, far more meaningful than being loyal to any country or organisation, because bb is real and alive and smexy (sorry) and fascinating and all the rest of it. however.

i think the sort of tragedy of it is is that while bb might seem like that at the start, this goofy mgs3 eater of raw snakes, what bb becomes is essentially just another faceless concept; he loses his humanity, he becomes obsessed, he's this symbol of war, he IS war, he is a gun as he himself says, and i think it's like ocelot in his own mind is so infatuated that he doesn't see it maybe, or he does but it's too late , and the reality is that his devotion to big boss is hardly any less demeaning, or any less tragic, than devoting his life to the philosophers or to america or russia or whoever. idk. especially if you think of this is in a more canon sense of bosselot i.e. Not requited. because ocelot really does not get anything at all from his devotion.

Which. i guess links or mirrors the boss. Loyalty to the end. she's loyal to her country and gets nothing for it except you know. Exploitation and death. And ocelot is. Loyal to big boss and he THINKS he's on to something good, that bb is far more of a worthy cause than patriotism, but what does he get for it? the same thing really. it's a thankless task and it ends with his whole personality destroyed, except in his final moments, and death at the hands of a knock-off snake. idk.
