I was in my geography class and we were looking at a map of the USA and I noticed Nevada and Utah are next to eachother and when I tell you I started losing it and grinning and giggling like a complete weirdo so bad, I had to come up with an excuse to leave the room because I looked so damn suspicious and concerning. Hate C! Quackbur with a passion 👍 (they make me insane)
#disclaimer: im not american and have no reason to know american geography. i mean i think I knew they were next to eachother but seeing it#on a map changed me a bit#i say a thing#tntduo#tnt duo#dream smp#dsmp#c! quackbur

I love the aus slang discussion! Why does 'forgive me' flag for you?
Oh! Haha, I'm glad it's fun. 'Forgive me' just isn't something I hear people say all that much (although funnily enough, since I heard him say it in interviews, I've heard an actor say it at the theatre I work at, so maybe it's an Aus actor thing). It could also be a Sydney thing though - a lot of Australian vocabulary/slang is regional.
The example that often gets used to explain regional vocabularies is around swimsuit/bikinis - I call them 'togs' as someone from Qld, but the term is 'bathers' here in Victoria, Tas, SA and WA, and either 'cossie' or 'swimmers' in NSW, with the NT calling it a whole mix of things. There's hilariously a map for this (I'm from the yellow part of Aus, living in the bottom right red part on the mainland. Sam's from the blue part, if you're not familiar):
#maps like this make it really obvious that half of australia's population is localised to victoria and new south wales lol#i work a bit in sydney / with people from sydney though so i feel like i generally know the slang there pretty well?#but yeah you can usually tell where people are from in the country pretty quickly through slang they use#aus asks#i got told on a zoom about a freelance copywriting job recently that i had a melbourne accent and a brisbane vocabulary lmao#which i think comes less from me living in melbourne and more from living in england as a child#since i asked friends from home if they thought my accent had changed since moving and they all said no

I am once again being haunted by "a paradox" holy fuck Olivia what the fuck is going on here what did you get yourself involved with and what did you do after it speak to me Olivia I can't keep living like this
#rat rambles#oni posting#the second half fills you with the horrors so you forget that the log opened up with that b111-1 bomb#for the record a paradox is one of my favorite lore logs of all of them because its the log that made me go Oh Shit and go reread all the#olivia logs I initially only skimmed through and begun the olivia brain takeover#the second part rewired my brain irreversably like its so fucked I love it#in particular one thing that makes me so fucking glad that the old olivia jackie logs were scrapped is that originally jackie was the one#who printing pod ified olivia to save her from the end of the world or smth#but the change to make it self inflicted? fucking amazing ten million times better and more interesting#especially because it implies she did it on purpose!#which opens up so many doors and I fucking Love it#because the teleportation technology was what she knew of as a method of doing this but either A shed have to have kept using teleporters#anyways and either just count on her not dying or counting On her dying#or shed have to know the link between it and the neural vaculators#which is very possible considering Stuff™ but does raise the question of how she used it#now the boring answer is that her brain map was already taken from the neural vaculator tests but god. that answer is boring.#the most interesting possibility to me personally is that she could have well. tinkered a bit with existing technology.#unlikely? maybe. fun to explore for my purposes? yep.#also I need the peace of knowing that jackie never got the satisfaction of knowing what happened with olivia's dissapearance#or if she did only after the fact#I need this to have been completely out of jackie's viewpoint at the top and I need it to fuck with her and shatter her worldview#I need to see the desperation and paranoia of a woman who is realizing that she has lost control over her technology#I need to see her try to cling onto her past ambitions and sense of control while falling apart at the seams#and I need olivia to have never thought jackie would give a shit until all else but her is dead and gone#do you see my vision do you see it do you see how much more fun it is if it was extremely deliberate instead of only lightly so

i'm really enjoying pathologic 2, actually. i mean, i didn't think i wouldn't enjoy it as much as i was worried it would just, i don't know, muddy the water. and maybe it will, but i'm not really bothered by that anymore. that said, i do think patho 2 took a fairly unsubtle game and increased its unsubtlety by about tenfold.
well. calling og pathologic 'unsubtle' doesn't feel quite right, but i'm not sure what word would feel right. maybe it's 'distinct in its sensibilities'. I think og patho felt more obtuse, whereas patho 2 is like. here. take it. do you get it. here is the information. do you see the themes. i am announcing them to you in such a way that you know that i am saying something thematic. i'm not far enough into the main story of 2 to be able to say that there's less reading between the lines, but it feels very much so far like there's less reading between the lines. whereas the original had a somewhat different... i don't know, affect? it felt like a hostile workplace where everyone recited shakespeare about even the mundane. in patho 2 nothing feels mundane in the first place, everything feels loaded in a way that og patho was but didn't feel, if that makes sense.
but i think that's okay. at the very least, it feels very much like leaning into the 'theater' aspect of it, which is enjoyable. pathologic 2 feels to me more like... bonus content? not to be Stuck Up For Pathologic HD but i enjoyed the feeling of grinding my face against a cinderblock, having to tease out information and conclusions. it felt like a game that you had to figure out, but you actually weren't really doing any ground-level figuring out of much; you're not a doctor, your character is, so the puzzle of Solving the Plague belongs to The Story, whereas the question of What the FUCK is This Town's Deal is your job. it's a very linear game in most respects, but all three playthroughs come through as a thematic package deal.
i so far get the impression that pathologic 2 can be played on its own and be enjoyed in its own right! however it exists to me as like. director's commentary. i'm really liking the playing with different character relationships and alternate things, the expanding of steppe language and the kin, love my worm guys, but i like it because of how it enriches my eternal mind rotation of og pathologic. sorry guys i played the original pathologic and it broke me and remade me in its image. sorry.
#sorry to be the quintessential 'guy who played pathologic and now doesn't stop thinking about pathologic'#i'm having a lot of fun trying all of the different things in marble nest though#i do worry in general that the inclusion of sprinting and fast travel will really fuck up my flow#the walking feels SO much slower now so while i was content to plod along in the original i feel like there's not a middle ground#so it feels a bit contrary to it all that i'm sprinting everywhere and just chugging bottles of water and calling it good#though at the very least it does seem like it will take some of the weight off of the 'route planning' aspect of the original#which was. honestly a load bearing part of... gestures vaguely#and i understand why people don't like it! i think that's a very reasonable thing to not like#having a game on a time limit that requires you to walk slowly across the map multiple times#i don't know what brainworms it activated in me but i quite enjoy it#on paper i should not like this game but here we are#that's not true. i play a lot of Bad To Play games for the story.#but 'guy who has no sense of time' playing 'time limit: the game' is... well i'm not arguing at the results#so that's my main Thing that i 'dislike' but even that word is too strong#i don't dislike it as much as i am keenly aware that i will have to play the game differently and i Don't Like Change lmao#that said these are preliminary impressions as i'm only about 4-5ish hours into the main game#pathologic

It has only taken me several years, and probably hundreds of attempts, but I finally managed a full 25k score for World map on Geoguessr 🥵
#rambling#geoguessr#google maps#y'all who dont play have no idea how lucky i got#my locations were new york america; mandela italy; leeds uk; fuckin right near the border of romania/hungary; and johannesburg south africa#i thought i was fucked multiple times#thats why it took so long bc i took many breaks lol#anyway#yay me!! lmao this has been a goal since i first played geoguessr like 8 years ago#the game/site has changed a fair bit since then!#the thing with world map is that usually one or two will be mild to moderately difficult#and then the rest will be somewhere you've never heard of in a language you cannot read. so thats why its so difficult

#daily doodle#Elden Ring#Shadow of the Erdtree#Tarnished#oc#I guess#art#digital art#sketch#morgott's cursed sword#grave bird armor#truant#the DLC is really good#There's a part of me that hopes they nerf it so it's a little bit more accessible like the base game#But I understand that nerfing it would tarnish (hurr durr) the creative vision of what the FromSoft team set out to make#Regardless of the difficulty it doesn't change the fact that every landmark on the map is a painting. The DLC is stunningly gorgeous

The fragments do exist!

They adjusted the difficulty! Repeat, the difficulty has been adjusted.
I know my swords weren't able to do this map before without serious damage ( i got stuck in map 3 for a while cause the dice hated me so much and the other node destroyed my swords. Now I made it past it and I can do 1-4)
So, happy about that!
#touken ranbu#exp has been adjusted too which is logical#but there's no kebishii infestion in iko maps (apparently) so you can go for the boss without worries#which makes sense in lore i think as kebishii are like swords manifested in the time period to regulate no disturbances#iko lost worlds don't need them ( well#in my opinion even if history is wrong an alternative version of kebishii should exist but i am happy the game disagrees with me#but if is a shard of the world changed then i guess it makes sense#in my mind kebishii are swords manifested by onmyoji of the era you travel to as defence against time disturbance#also all the iko stuff is a bit suspicious if you ask me#looks like goverment is making us do more shady stuff as time goes

been working on recoloring their wardrobe for this play through. i think the crow armors look so silly n over the top so i usually get rid of cape/feathers, but since taash love the crows capes my new headcanon is that they usually wear the armor w no feather/cape bcs they think its impractical(n looks stupid), but after they get together w taash n hear their banter w lucanis abt crows n their capes etc they start wearing the full outfit, cape n feathers n all, where it makes sense d:
have a few more i plan on recoloring, like one of the big fancy armors for end game stuff n one that would make sense for rivains weather since wearing a full leather suit in sun n sand sounds like torture
#im gonna have them change armor for diff maps n as story progress i want immersion okay!!!#i have no idea when they would ever wear the tiddies out outfit but i managed to make the feather look so good on the other one so why not#need to brighten it a bit tho always forget how much darker they look in game#just give me mesh modding soon i need to kitbash so fucking bad i have so many ideas#katari de riva#oc blogging

gonna show u guys a little opalescent highlight hack i threw together today
rainbow gradient above your main figure (i usually have all my main figure folders/layers in one big folder, so i can clip gradient maps + adjustments to it!). liquify tool to push the colors around a bit. STAY WITH ME I KNOW IT LOOKS STUPID RN I'M GOING SOMEWHERE WITH THIS
THEN: set it to add/glow (or the equivalent in ur drawing program), lower the opacity a bit, and apply a layer mask. then u can edit the mask with whatever tools you like to create rainbow highlights!!
in this case i'm mostly using the lasso fill tool to chip out little facets, but i've also done some soft airbrushing to bring in larger rainbow swirls in some areas. it's pretty subtle here, but you can see it better when i remove the gradient map that's above everything, since below i'm working in greyscale:
more granular rambling beneath the cut!
u could also just do this with a brush that has color jitter, but what i like about using layer masks for highlight/shading layers is how simple and reversible it makes everything. i can use whatever brushes i want, and erasing/redoing things is super low stakes, which is great when i often approach this stuff with a super trial-and-error approach.
example: have u ever thrown a gradient w multiple colors over an entire piece, set it to multiply etc, and then tried to erase it away to carve out shadows/highlights? it's super frustrating, bc it looks really good, but if u erase something and then change ur mind later, u basically would have to like. recreate the gradient in the area u want to cover up again. that's how i used to do things before figuring out layer masks!! but masking basically creates a version of this with INFINITE undo bc u can erase/re-place the base layer whenever u want.
anyway, back to rambling about this specific method:
i actually have TWO of these layers on this piece (one with the liquified swirls shown above, and another that's just a normal concentric circle gradient with much broader stripes) so i can vary the highlights easily as needed.
since i've basically hidden the rainbow pattern from myself, the colors in each brushstroke i make will kind of be a surprise, which isn't always great -- but easily fixable! for example, if i carve out a highlight and it turns out the rainbow pattern in that area is way too stripey, i can just switch from editing the mask to editing the main layer and blur that spot a bit.
also, this isn't a full explanation of the overall transparency effect in these screencaps! there's other layer stuff happening below the rainbow highlights, but the short version is i have all this character's body parts in different folders, each with their own lineart and background fill, and then the fill opacity is lowered and there's multiply layers clipped to that -- blah blah it's a whole thing. maybe i'll have a whole rundown on this on patreon later. uhhh i think that's it tho! i hope u get something useful out of this extremely specific thing i did lmao

Minecrafters Using Reference
Reference as in real world architecture, not other minecrafters' builds, though that's a fair way to learn too. Studying real world architecture gives insights about designing buildings, while studying other minecrafters would give insight into how to accomplish certain effects in Minecraft.
I didn't have more than passing interest in architecture before watching mcyt, but now whenever I'm outside, I'm evaluating the buildings around me. Do I like their shape? color? Any interesting details? Any wear or texture? And above all: How would you do that detail/shape/etc in minecraft? (please note: I don't even play minecraft)
Rendition and Inspiration
There's a minecraft project called BuildtheEarth that's replicating the earth in minecraft on a 1 to 1 scale. There's some fantastic builds on there.
On hermitcraft, Joe Hills is known for creating to scale renditions of real world places/objects. In season 10, he's tackled a project of massive scale with Bell Labs. He used a map from the library of congress to layout all the shapes!

These are examples of renditions/replicas/copies/whatever you want to call it (Although Joe's doubles as a community build area in place of massive parking lots).
Then there's using the buildings for inspiration. This may involve just taking bits and pieces. Or maybe you just take a color palette. Or maybe just the shape. Maybe you don't take anything but vibes. As a general rule, I think having multiple sources of inspiration is important so the new build doesn't end up feeling like a rendition instead of its own thing.
Bdubs in season 9 used the bakery from Kiki's Delivery Service as inspiration for his mud cafe. It can be seen in the wood framing, the stairs, the archway, the shape, the shed, the chimney designs. But the colors, the composition, Bdubs made changes that made it his own and combined the addition to his previous shop Moss o Menos.

The aesthetics of Geminitay's season 10 base is based on the video game Dredge. I feel like the most obvious influence is in her research castle and fishing boats. She used inspiration from the spooky sea creatures in the game to create a uniquely frightening angler shop.

In Pearl's Build a Day series, she did a week focused on real world places. Here's the one she designed after a countryside home in Australia (her home country):
Goodtimeswithscar in season 7, when starting Aqua Town, based his shop on old department stores:

I like looking at his Aqua Town builds in comparison to his Scarland Main Street facades, which draw additional inspiration from Disneyland:

I feel like, comparing the builds you can see how he's grown; he's learned new detailing tricks, found colors and textures that work better with the architecture style. The main street has a similar layout to Disneyland, but his buildings are all unique.
Mogswamp is working on a massive build that's based on architecture drawings from Renzo Picasso:
He's incorporating groin vaults from roman architecture too!
I think builders learning about existing architecture is so good. It can give them so many ideas to add into their toolbox. It reminds them of small details that give builds life, like small sheds, some pipes, porches. And the builds don't need to be realistic; My mind goes to work by Shovel and Joel. Or everything Mumbo has done in season 10.
