A lot of the pro-veilguard arguments I see include a very specific way of viewing what “dark fantasy” is which misses the entire point as to why there are criticisms about the overall tone of the game.

Dark fantasy is not just “how much murder rape bigotry and overall suffering can we put in a story for the sake of doing so”.

It’s about having events and themes based off of the darker parts of reality and then, as the player, being able to do something about it. The general appeal is the catharsis. It’s about seeing these stories reflected through an interactive story in a meaningful, respectful, purposeful way.

Is dragon age the poster child for handling its complicated, real-life-inspired politics well? No. But veilguard was somehow worse. The bar was in hell and it still tripped flat on its face.

Veilguard’s lackadaisical, chronically ironic “well THAT just happened”, neutered writing and theme is not a good argument as to why this is a good dragon age game, and you can’t blame the dark fantasy genre for it.

Tango was so happy energetic.

And from Tango calling Etho's storage system cute and Etho in gamechat going "CUTE?!" (00:41:07). To the razzing (and laughing) over shops (00:49:00 and 01:03:49). Etho taking Tango's head twice, and it all being so playful (00:58:11). Etho using Tango's catchphrases 🥹🥹🥹 It gets me every time! "porkchop power" "flee with extra flee!" And the way he said it was the cutest, and Tango's giggle about it too (01:00:59). Etho offering to give the tour Tango wanted. More mail talk and laughing guilt and planning and razzing and teaching Etho to do the stamps. Tango complimenting the path (and that Etho showed it to him when he first came back when Etho came to say hi) (01:15:41). They still plan on doing their sand-collection-off (01:35:06).

And of course the whole TNTificating with Etho's new "boom boom tech" (01:39:43--02:15:17) was just…the most fun. They are having the most fun together...it's an absolute joy. (And it's also them collaborating on how to figure out a redstone thing together which is just so satisfying.) Just...TOO MANY (!!!) (so many) fun moments in that whole TNT section that I can't even start on highlighting them all 😭 I'd need another mammoth paragraph...

They would meet around the time OG Branch would’ve come to rescue her

Things aren't all cupcakes and rainbows with the two of them, even with Branch not being gray he still harbors some worry and sadness which would end up being a point of conflict

Not shown to great extent here but his inability to see "the silver lining" would become a moment of conflict for them in place of singing killed my grandma

Twins of Separate Paths (Shen Yuan’s demon hood)

Shen Yuan is a Yí Qíng Yao (rough transition is Empath Demon). In my previous posts, I stated that Shen Yuan can feed off of regret. He didn't really get to choose what he became besides becoming a demon.

The method by which he became a demon is both Narratively and physically challenging to accomplish. Yuan only knows about it from a one-line comment from one of the demon wives of Binghe's harem, which would have been a far more interesting story to tell than how she fell into the emperor's harem.

Like Shen Yuan, he literally has to wait until the year his twin decides to torch the place until the Demon Converter is received, eaten, and becomes a demon. That's how rare the method is. In addition to the rarity of the plant, the conversion rate of humans to demons is also very low. A 10% survival in becoming a demon.

There's an entire training montage of Yuan discovering how to eat emotions. A majority of the time he'll have to choose a mark, mark them with physical contact. Then induce the emotion that he wants to feed off of. Sometimes, to the point of death for the mark. However, other times, he doesn't even need to touch the person. His Demon brain is like; That's a good meal; Marking them. His feast marks can't be removed.

He knows this because the day he saw his brother on Cang Qian mountain. His demon Brain marked him as Food. with instructions to great the best meal from his brother is by inducing regret. Yuan did several tests, even finding another Yi Qing Yao to get advice on removing marks. Shen Yuan hates it.

Also Aphrosiacs are like wine to Shen Yuan. How dose he know this? he got poisoned, of course.

Shen Yuan is at a banquet with his new demon family that are super supportive in helping him figure out how to eat. There is an underlying culture in the demon realm of dietary necessities as a major part of being a demon is being strong and powerful to attract potential partners.

Anyway, one such family want to make a move on the new adoptive son of the king of the demon clann. Shen yuan none the wiser drinks to those that are toasting to him. Like he's tried wine before and didn't feel a thing. But this wine he feels a tingle on his tongue. Excited, he asks to take note of it to his servant (he's still learning what things he can and can't eat in banquets). After the Banquet is over, a woman throws herself towards Shen Yuan, who is not feeling aroused in the slightest. just sets her down and tells her that the guest quarters are in the opposite direction. Just walking off. The demonic maiden is very confused.

The Demon Parent Shen Yuan has. laughed for a full twenty minutes when he discovered that Shen Yuan just walked off an aphrodisiac zero consequences. No assistance needed. While Shen Yuan's taste tester had to spend several days remedying the problem. It becomes a running Joke at the Hualing clan that Shen Yuan is more than a Fox to be seduced. They lay out a red carpet for any Aphrodisiac to be placed in Shen Yuan's drinks.

Because they are on my mind, please accept one of my favorite Wangxian moments of all time.

Chapter 87

In my opinion, this is one of the most important Wangxian scenes in the whole novel. It is very special to me. It made me tear up when I was doing my read through.

Time and time again, Wei Wuxian has fallen, he's gotten hurt, people have failed him. The people who were supposed to be there for him have either left, he's lost them tragically, or they've betrayed him at some point in his life. His life has been one of loneliness and loss.

He has never had someone who he could rely on so heavily. He has never had a solid safety net before, someone on equal footing to him that he could fall back on and rely on. If anything he has spent his entire life being a safety net for other people. He has spent his whole life being strong for others.

Now, however, Lan Wangji is that safety net for him.

For the first time in his life, he has someone to truly catch him when he falls. He can let himself fall and still be safe. That "thank you" isn't just about Lan Wangji catching him after he fell from the tree, its about everything.

Hi!! Does Undyne know Wingdings in this AU? Like what kind of relationship do they have? Or did they not know each other at all?

Also! Does Wingdings consider Alphys as a friend? Or like is he just very professional about it and sees everyone as colleagues? And like does he feel sad if he doesn’t have friends? Cause i know the current Papyrus feels very upset (I think) because he doesn’t have as many friends as Sans or something like that

Uh... he's not quite there yet..... but let's give him some time....

He has friends!!! Like!!!! Sans!!! And!!! Himself!!!

Okay, but seriously, he's not sad about it because he gave up with that a long time ago

It's not something he cares about so it doesn't make him sad, he's not lonely! Sans is there! That's probably enough! Maybe!

Papyrus DOES care a lot about relationships and connections with other people, but he has no experience, he's trying really hard though!!

The fact that he had no clear idea of what he wanted or why he wanted it wasn't helping him either

And yeah it must have felt bad that no matter how hard he tried he just seemed to fail where his brother succeeded without trying

But don't worry! Right now in the post pacifist timeline he's been doing quite good! There's still progress to be made but he's friends with Undyne and frisk, he's been getting to know Asgore, Toriel and many other people, he's still training with Alphys, he's met new people in the surface and he's been hanging out with Flowey much more!

Miqo March Day #25 - Fate

Across Eorzea, three very different Miqo'te begin the long journeys that will eventually lead them to cross paths. All of them are far from home and from those who care for them, chasing the things that give their lives a feeling of purpose by venturing down a path uncharted.

The fact the three of them eventually found each other as companions, that alone might seem like quite the coincidence. But for these three to truly find a home in each others' presence and build a life together... The only word fit to describe the cause of such an outcome is fate.

Twins in slavery together. Yuan dies but he is brought back to becoming a demon that likes to feed off of Unresolved Regrets.

It is not until shen jiu is a peak Lord when his disciples find a demon with his face. They meet each other again.

Or see. because Yuan can just tell his twin has become messed up. Yuan bails from the sect. Only to start showing up again when Binghi is accepted into the sect.

But then he sees Yue Qingyuan and ohh boy Shen Yuan decides that no he dose not want to feed of the ambiance of regrets between his brothers. So he decides the best way to help Binghe is to resolve the regret his brothers have.

He is still a Transmigrator thus once he finds Airplane in Shang Quinhua. They plot against the system that won't even let Shen Yuan introduces himself to the future demon lord.

I think out of all of Gordon's siblings, Great Northern being his very first sibling would have made them very close. Not just in age, but emotionally as well.

Think about it.

Gordon as a prototype existed specifically as proof of concept and for stress testing the original draft design of Gresley's A1 Pacifics. He was likely put through a very meticulous and arduous trial phase to gauge all of his strengths and limitations, as well as single out whatever faults the original concept design would need to have ironed out before the final product was put into production.

He would have been alone and been worked to the frame, holding the potential fate of whatever kin may come out of his hard work over his funnel, never quite knowing if he was enough to warrant a new class of locomotive being brought into being.

Until one day another engine who's his spitting image but fully finished and painted, rolls over to him and greets him as his newly-built brother. That would have probably been a very impactful moment for him. Which, of course, only makes what happened to that particular sibling (who was once a very iconic and beloved engine in his own right) all the much worse...

As the prototype of Gresley's A1 Pacifics, Gordon likely never wanted to outlive any of his brothers. Especially not his first little brother who's mere existence proved that Gordon accomplished his very purpose in life with flying colours...
