A lot of people are assuming that the name ‘Paul’ refers to Paul the Apostle. This would make sense in that Paul is probably the second most important person to the church after Jesus himself. What doesn’t click is that Paul is credited with codifying a large portion of Catholic/Christian theology and early church positions on a wide range of topics. He was establishing the Church as we know it. Hardly something we would think Palamedes is interested in.

I think Tamsyn might be referencing a different Paul. There was a Pope Paul about 60 years ago that oversaw what’s known as “Vatican II” which was a massive reformation of the liturgy and the way the Church communicated with its members. It’s considered one of the most important set of reforms in the last 500 years.

Also, it just so happens that he was “Pope Paul The Sixth.”

The Locked Tomb Spoilers

Looking back, the series feels like redemption from the bury your gays trope. Gideon dies at the end of the first book and she and Harrow spend the rest of series desperately clawing their way back to the happy ending that they deserved all along.
