I don’t know if this has been done before but hear me out… Kuina lives Au
Not as in she faked her death, but as in she lived INSTEAD of Zoro. Everything else is the exact same. They still made their vows to become the greatest swordsman and to fight every day, but instead of Kuina falling down the stairs, Zoro died in some other sudden way.
Now I’m no expert with One Piece lore or anything, but from the way I’m imagining it, it could be that literally nothing would change about the plot of the main story. I like to imagine that, after Zoro’s death, Kuina goes through a similar character shift where she realizes she has to carry out both of their dreams. I always loved that Zoro’s three sword style represented the way that he was fighting in both of their names, and I feel that Kuina would have done the same thing in his honor. Zoro really seemed to inspire her with his determination that anyone can be great, and I don’t find it unreasonable that she also would have left the village to fight stronger opponents, likely even ending up as a strong bounty hunter in the East Blue, as Zoro did.
Now I don’t feel that we really saw a lot of Kuina’s personality relating to situations other than her and Zoro’s rivalry, but it’s pretty clear to me that her and Zoro are similar in a lot of ways. Kuina had more of a defeatist attitude about her future, but that was a product of the environment she was raised in. She clearly still had a strong fighting spirit, and once Zoro encouraged her (in his own way lol), she seemed to be susceptible to the dreamer mentality that Zoro— and many of the Staw Hats— have. If Zoro died instead, I think it would only add to the motivation she felt about overcoming her perceived weakness.
I’m not sure how exactly this would change the strawhats’ dynamics, though I think there would be something interesting there when it came to her relationship with Sanji, as I don’t imagine she would appreciate his flawed outlook on women.
#I’m not a one piece blogger so I know this came out of nowhere lol#I never do posts like this#I’m also only on Skypeia but I know a lot of spoilers#especially about Zoro because he’s my favorite#Kuina lives au#I literally just reskinned Zoro’s outfit (partially because I think it still fits and partially because I think it’s funny)#shimotsuki kuina#Kuina#kuina one piece#one piece#zoro#roronoa zoro#one piece zoro#zoro died instead#Kuina is a straw hat#one piece au#also I have no idea how to deal with Tashigi here lol

distant blue sky
#wanted to make an isat piece w color#my art#in stars and time#isat siffrin#isat fanart#isat#also wanted to make an isat piece with a pokemon reference in there somewhere for the joke#but i can’t find a good composition for the other one i had planned so. distant blue sky beam#actually such a fire episode#just so everyone knows my other idea was to redraw kalos crisis screenshots over loop hangout#specifically something to do with “who knew the end of something could be so beautiful?”#im not crucifying siffrin i swear#i was gonna do that quote with the king when he gets bonnie but idk? he wouldnt see it as the end obviously#loop might bt loop also wouldnt see the end of the hangout as something that good#just based on context of that whole scene/episode of the anime honestly i think the king and siffrin would fit best no matter#who the conversation would be with#but the kings character just isnt like that#idk maybe ill have to have a conversation with cat or klesek because i do want to do a kalos crisis screenshot redraw over the gay timeloop#because that would be funny as hell#but first i need to find something that fits well enough and doesn't make me look like an idiot with 0 reading comprehension

i love how everyone is taking their favorite one piece fan letter characters and making them their ocs; i think it's exactly the point of the episode.
those characters are purposefully left without a name because we, as the viewers, are supposed to see ourselves in them. we're supposed to look at them and relate to them, find a character that was inspired by the straw hats in the same way we were. i think creating these characters and these stories is the best thing the one piece franchise could have done to pay homage to their fans.
the fan letter characters are supposed to be appealing and relatable because they're supposed to be our reflections.
that's why i love how the fandom is reacting to them: we are already obsessing over them, finding names for them, creating fanwork. and it's exactly what we were supposed to do; make those characters ours, make them personal, bring them to life.
#one piece#one piece fan letter#thank you to my bf for giving me the idea for this post <3#me personally... my favorites are bookstore part-timer and marine younger brother#i gave them names and everything#they're my ocs now#and i think that's beautiful#the powerscalers at the bar were so fucking funny also

Mihawk and the Red Haired Pirates
-Look I don't know what to tell you, Mihawk's epithet is literally Hawkeyes meaning he is world-renowned for his eyesight meaning that he'd probably make a good sharpshooter. And maybe Yasopp decides to test this theory with a little friendly competition. And after giving Mihawk a quick intro into how guns work, maybe Yasopp had to pull out every trick there is in the book to narrowly avoid losing to said Hawkeyes, who as it turns out is indeed very good at hitting targets and who had literally just learned how to cock a gun not even 30 minutes ago. But who's to say what actually happened, the day of November 25th at 2:35pm? Certainly not Yasopp, the record clearly shows he is undefeated.
-Once a year Ben and Mihawk go on a little trip just the two of them. They act like it's just so they can shit-talk Shanks but actually, they just go fishing somewhere in the middle of the ocean and drink horribly overpriced and fancy alcohol. Look Benn loves his crew, and would die for them but also if he doesn't get at least a week to himself once every year he'd kill them all himself. He deserves nice things and a little peace and fucking quiet and not being constantly inundated with the whims of a man child and Mihawk's the closest he's ever gonna get to a friend with taste, and he travels alone with a bunch of fancy wine. Sue the man. Mihawk who would rather nap is fine to let someone else sail his overgrown raft against the annoyingly ever-changing grandline for a week or two.
-Wouldn't it be cute if Mihawk learned a lot of his fancier cooking techniques from Roux? Like he knew how to cook to survive but watching Roux is how he learned to like properly dice vegetables and that eating fish prepared the same way three times a day is not infact a life he would like to lead. This was of course less cute to Lucky Roux who in the beginning had no clue what was happening and only felt the weight of Mihawk's otherworldly stare on the back of his neck as he handled knives. (he defiantly for at least a little bit, thought Mihawk had a knife fetish. which, he's not entirely wrong)
-To Building Snake (who I just learned is the RHP's navigator) Mihawk might as well be a modern-day miracle. In his eyes, Mihawk's sailing is proof that god exists, because only divine intervention can explain how this man ever gets anywhere never mind on time or early even. Building Snake is pretty sure he owns neither a map nor a log pose and he has never actually seen the sails of Mihawk's pretend ship unfurled or in use. Actually, he has never seen Mihawk do anything but sit menacingly on the throne in the middle of the boat, which why? If you think about it for even a second longer that 2 minutes how Mihawk "sails" anywhere breaks every law of physics and somehow even the concept of geography. Building Snake would like to dissect him and study him under a microscope but knows the boss would disapprove.
#Shanks of course loves watching Mihawk interact with his crew it's essentially hoping your family doesn't scare away your boyfriend#the downside is that he thinks that the crew might like mihawk more than him. which rude#I don't know I've just been think a lot about what Mihawk's interactions with the rhps would be like#and so I decided to just compile some of y favorite thoughs#because no building snake is valid how does Mihawk sail anywhere without the use of you know sails#Also I do like the idea that Mihawk's extravagence is a very deliberate effort to give himself fancy things he couldn't have as a child#They all try to petition him to join their crew after the warlords disband which is the deciding reason why Mihawk accepts crocodile's offe#Cause he “likes” them sure but living with them would probably kill him#hawkeye mihawk#one piece#throwing thoughts to the void#dracule mihawk#op#mishanks#shanks#red haired shanks#benn beckman#akagami no shanks#yasopp#red hair pirates#red haired pirates#lucky roux#akataka#one piece funny#one piece headcanons#red hair shanks

⚔️ ONE PIECE || Zoro smiling & being silly - Fishman Island Arc ⚔️
#roronoa zoro#zoro#one piece#one piece manga#one piece zoro#fishman island#i had this idea to go through post Time Skip arcs and make these compilations of Zoro actually still smiling and grinning#bc he still does that quite a lot. at least in fishman island still#when ppl say he doesnt smile anymore.. i wonder what manga they've read (tbh maybe the anime doesnt put that there as much?#ive watched only few fishman island eps so idk. but i know of at least one of these pics being turned from a smile to a frown so...)#obviously the shift of the themes overall is big. all the characters get more real and serious and its very different from pre timeskip arc#but he's still got his moments#anyway. its funny because he remains silly mostly beside luffy... you know. he missed him. he smiles a lot around him.#and maybe some ppl just overlook those scenes 🤔#also some great and funny zosopp scenes#zolu#luzo#mine#gif:zoro smile#gif:op manga#usopp#sanji#nami#nico robin#straw hats crew#fishman island arc#long post#one piece ch 598 - 654

"Sid Meier's Civilization is actually about a group of immortal god kings condemned to forever struggle against each other in a never ending cosmic game in which their empires and nations are but pawns" gets brought up as a funny 'ha ha' joke about Civ, but the thing is that is the most supported reading of the game's mechanics, writing, art direction, and even trailers.
But what's really funny is that each new installment leans harder into this idea then the last. With Civ 7 making it so that leaders aren't even tied down to their 'historic' civilizations (meaning you can't even argue the 'national personification' thing anymore) and since Civs can change while leaders can't, that means that leaders are also the only constant across an entire campaign.
This means, for example, in the universe of Civilization, the likes of Gaius Octavius, Hatshepsut, Napoleon, and even Gandhi are constantly reborn, take up leadership of a small singular village, live for uncountable eons (unless slain by another Leader or dethroned), rebuild the same nation, people, empire over and over and over again with only slight variations, until one achieves victory over the others (be it by sending their people into the stars, building a society that culturally subsumes all others, conquering the world, or otherwise somehow 'winning history' by the metrics they held dear in their mortal lives) and gains...nothing as far as we know.
We don't know if they wither to dust instantly Gothel style, or reign until the heat death of the universe, or begin aging and live out a mortal life for however long remains to them. All we know for certain is that they are right back there again at the stone age as soon as the next game starts, becoming chiefs of a tribe of thatched roved houses on some unrecognizable landmass, with nothing to do but start all over again from scratch. Build the same walls and monuments and wonders, fight the same endlessly shifting battles against the same rivals. Maybe this time Rome is stamped out in antiquity, and maybe this time is launches the first space colony. Maybe Egypt raises up the pyramids once more, and maybe they raise up the Colossus, or the Hanging Gardens, or Statue of Liberty, or the Sydney Opera House. Maybe Napoleon's France finally achieves perfect ideal democracy, or maybe his warring ways lead a coalition of Japan, China, the Gauls, and Sumerians facing off against him all over again. Maybe Gandhi decides mutually assured destruction is the only way to protect world peace. The names change, the lands and continents change, the ages change, eventually even the civilizations themselves change- Gaius finds himself the Emperor of Egypt and Hatsheput the Queen of the United States of America- but the only thing that doesn't change is the leaders. Their configurations vary and sometimes they face off against a newcomer they haven't before, but always it ultimately comes back to a group of immortal rulers- the great and the good, the wicked and the genius, the mad and the unlikely, and the just plain lucky that one and all ended up in the history books- who keep trying to take one more swing, one more run, one more turn at fulling the ambitions of their mortal life, and leading their people to glory.
Because the only way to break the cycle, to the end the game (both in universe and out) is to stop playing. Give up. Stop pushing that glowing little arrow button. Stop following the ambitions, the ideals, the dreams, the hopes that lead them here in the first place.
But just like Civ players and just like humans in general, they never do.
#history tag#sid meier's civilization#Civilization VII#Civilization 7#Civilization 6#Civilization VI#Civilization V#Civilization 5#Civilization#civilization meta#guess that's a tag I have now#anyways whose got two thumbs and is ready for ara: history untold at the end of this month#this guy#it's also funny to me that humankind tried to pull away from this idea#because of the understandable Great Man History implications#but that then felt like one of those essential pieces of the stew that was then missing#I hope they bring back cleopatara for Civ 7 so I can make her ruler of Rome#and bring Octavian's absolute worst nightmare to life
