Summary:

Sand finds Ray in a bathroom stall, jerking off. Instead of walking out like anyone else would have, he decides to stay. When the tension between them reaches its peak, they find the best way to resolve it.

Or, a story deciphering what would have had happened if Sand found Ray in the restroom in a different situation from the one in the first episode.

not to sound like an elitist but it's really crazy to me that people ever got mad at ryukishi for not explicitly spelling out the solution in the sound novels when the love duel in ep6 is him shoving it down the reader's throat in the least subtle way possible. zepar and furfur make shannon and kanon walk 19 steps away from each other before they give the signal to start the duel bc it's the number that's been the most important since the beginning of the story and they straight up say it's the age of the true territory lord of the gameboard (and just the previous ep was centered around the mystery of the baby from 19 years ago that natsuhi pushed off a cliff and it was heavily implied that shannon is connected to them) and the rest of the duel is also beating the reader over the head with shkanontrice with all of the talk about how it takes two to create a universe and furniture having 'incomplete souls' that make them count as less than a person, making the duel necessary bc only one pair of lovers can succeed bc of this, and the outcome is literally the losers, who are kanon and chick beatrice, merging with shannon to revive beatrice

Was thinking earlier about just how good Ray was at apologizing to Sand.

He doesn’t even try to brush it off or make excuses. He looks Sand right in the eye and admits to his faults. Ray is good at apologizing, and Sand is good at forgiving. This is such a crucial point because I suspect each of these strengths (or weaknesses) will play an integral role in RaySand’s dynamic going forward…but at what point are there just too many issues to forgive someone for?

Honestly, I would’ve expected Ray’s apology to be fairly weak. No doubt, Sand expected that too. But there’s a level of sincerity that will make it possible for Sand to keep coming back again and again. It’s also interesting because Sand seems like someone who is fairly certain of his beliefs and values (like Mew). Things will quickly become uncomfortable for him as his sense of self is put into question by his unequal relationship with Ray:

Sand might be poor, but if anything, I think that’s made him more dignified. He doesn’t determine worth based on wealth. For him to have his feelings toyed with by Ray could pose a massive threat to his self-concept. Someone with a strong sense of self doesn’t want to believe that they would settle for anything less than what they deserve—so when Sand is screwed over by Ray again and again, what can he do? That dissonance is as much a relationship problem as it is a personal problem.
