I’ve somehow hit the discourse of “I’m white and I know what rap is about 🤓” side of things and it’s reminding me of a guy i knew in high school reciting the importance of Fuck The Police to me as if I’ve never heard it before. Then he proceeded to play Tyler the Creator’s Flower Boy in full (the album had just dropped at the time) and go track by track on all the lyrical meanings and I felt like I was trapped in a Genius video.
My point is, trying to pull the “I’m not racist, I UNDERSTAND your struggles” is off putting imo cuz to white people can only understand to a certain degree. I’ve known white people who are these raving mad rap fans and then the second I start bringing up current black issues all I hear is “well, it’s just always been that way. What am I supposed to do about it?”
FUCKING GIVE A SHIT ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE EVERY ONCE AND A WHILE AND NOT JUST WHEN THEY DROP AN ALBUM!!! LISTEN TO THE BLACK PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE TALK ABOUT THEIR STRUGGLES AND STOP USING THE VAST UMBRELLA OF RAP AS A LENS TO SEE ALL BLACK PEOPLE THROUGH!!!
The fact that we’re still at a point where even the “good guy” white folk think that because they heard a couple tracks and watched the This Is America music video once they’re the most perfect ally when that’s just not true.

I never wanted race to define me as a radical feminist. It has never stopped me from supporting all women. But after October last year, I've seen many so-called gender critics and some "radical feminists" reveal their true colours, explicitly and blatantly racist. They pretend to care about Arab women only when Arab men harm us. But when it's white men causing harm, they stay silent. How many Iraqi women and underage girls were raped by white male soldiers in the Iraq invasion? The same happened in Vietnam and is happening to Palestinian women now. These instances are conveniently ignored because it's white men committing the atrocities.
I care about all women. All women. However, when you are being racist, focusing on us in the most discriminatory ways, I won't tolerate it. Arab women deserve respect and humanity too. We've made numerous inventions and contributions throughout history and have always been relevant. We are not just relevant when some of you want to push a certain narrative, mostly stemming from racism. Unfortunately, we face misogyny both at home and in the West. But we will not be silenced or overlooked. Arab women deserve better.

...The only response you should give to misogynistic men who insist "single fathers are better than single mothers in every way" is:
"I see... You're so right John. It's so clear to me now... men should actually marry each other! I mean, single fathers are much better then single mothers in every way, right? So, imagine the benefits of having TWO men raise children. We should transition to a system where men marry each other, men raise children and women can live as bachelorettes."
Watch the way the seethe.

I see your dog-coded Agrippa and Cassius, but what about Crassus ? Kind of like feral dog coded
for me, Crassus skips the dog coding allegations on account of no one being able to put a leash on him, and there's no person he seems to be singularly devoted to in a way that dictates his actions
Dating The Praetorship of Marcus Licinius Crassus, Martin Stone
like, there's Sulla, but Crassus also did a lot of that of his own accord, and Sulla shut the door on him politically so Crassus climbed in through a window and worked a different aspect of Roman society-politics with magnificent skill. he ALSO skips the dog allegations because if anyone is bringing someone to heel, it's Crassus doing it to other people. there isn't a specific person that Crassus' actions can be dedicated to in a way that makes me think of a dog the way Agrippa's actions for Octavian do.
I also don't think he's feral! what he is: really fucking ruthless, or has the potential for ruthlessness, which isn't the same thing to me as being feral. and being ruthless is not uncommon for Late Republic politics
Lucullus: A Life, Arthur Keavney
but its that pivot point between being firm, ruthless, and likeable that makes him interesting. he's actually. he's--
okay, so in my mind, he's Machiavelli Prince coded. there are only two Romans I have ever made a compare and contrast analysis using Machiavelli's Il Principe, one is Augustus, the other is Crassus. and for once my connect the dots of thematic tomfoolery has something I can cite, someone ELSE has also made a comparison to Augustus

Yo... apparently, I'm a racist now for pointing out history.
It's history.
I know a bit about colonialism because my people were both colonials and indigenous. The colonies were not just 'white people' there were also slaves from Africa, Irish indentured servants, Native American, and French. Prisoners of all kinds as well. The colonies were where people went when their country didn't want them anymore. Think of Australia. Think of India. Think of the Caribbean Islands. They were all colonies of the British empire. The descendants of the colonies are still living there today. My people are still here on the same land they've been on for over 6000 years. Land that was owned by Napoleon and is still under Napolianic law today.
But it's apparently bad to strike up a friendship with those considered enemies. Or even fall in love. Because it hasn't happened before... wrong. It has. Why do you think all these countries exist? Jamaica? The Philippines (oh yeah, Spain did it too when Spain has Moorish blood in it)? Dominica? Mexico? South America as a whole? Yeah, Spain is the the one with the Genocide count. But if you know anything about Spain, is that it was invaded by the Moors. Before that it was part of Gaul and there were Celts still running around before Rome drove them out. I haven't even gotten to the Mongols or the many wars between the warring states in China that almost whiped each other out. Or Nanking, where Japan came in and tried their hand at Genocide to. Cambodia. Laos. All these countries have seen atrocities that you don't even know about.
I mean, this is human history. This is why we have so many cultures and countries.
Because of war and colonies. You've got to take the good with the bad. Because we really wouldn't be here if it weren't for the past.

nosy anon again making a return because i think what my brain did was read that i helped find some kind of writing and then did not fully process what the writing was?? but upon rereading i am very intrigued if you ever get the urge to share i will be all eyes/ears/senses required to enjoy things!!
I GET TO DO WIP WEDNESDAYYYYYY!!! the writing exists mostly in the form of a tag (fantastic! 'verse) and also a thirty-two page doc of snippets and planning, so the sense you will be using most is imagination:
don't think i have ever actually formally written out anything about fantastic! 'verse but! the tl;dr of it is that it's a semi-college au: joel is still a hockey player for the lv phantoms, but morgan is a college student-athlete. it's incredibly relevant to the plot that joel falls in love with morgan in the check-out line of a wegman's, lies a little bit, and ends up going back to get his degree.
most of it is just good fun about college kids growing up, but i think there's a lot of parallels between making your way through a development system where traditional "success" isn't always guaranteed (ahl -> nhl, completion of higher education -> pursuit of a career) because that development system isn't always designed for you to "succeed" or have opportunities. heavy quotation marks around success because part of that struggle is learning what you want in life and how you define success. are your dreams achievable? are they still the same dreams you always used to have? it's infinite branching universes of would you still love me if i was a worm (ahl player forever) (a college dropout) (a college graduate) (older) (realizing the fallibility of your body) (uncertain of the future) (human).
silly little snippet:

Disclaimer im just processing some thoughts im not cancelling the show
have almost thoughts about how i find the like....narrative on here that if you have chronic "zebra" conditions youd want a doctor like House and wouldnt sue for malpractice bc at least youd have a doctor that cares about whats wrong with you but lets take it one step further. so often he does NOT give a shit about the patient and actively endangers them frequently with his god damn heoric era of medicine approach? non zero amount of times he gets a diagnosis but it comes too late, or he gets a diagnosis after their first wrong 3 guesses of the episode shut down the patients kidneys and they either have to get a transplant or they are just, doomed due to other preexisting conditions etc? idk. i know ppl are almost certainly exaggerating and just letting off steam about the very real failures of our current medical systems and the ableism baked in and All That Shit. i just think its weird how ppl romanticize House who STILL, FREQUENTLY, MULTIPLE EPISODES will actively dismiss shit in the exact way that is a problem in our current system, especially when hes being Forced Against His Will To See Clinic Parients, he loves to be dismissive as fuck of symptoms and if he was a real doctor i think he'd be fucking 50/50 on cases he Notices Something To Dig Into vs cases he dismisses as an Anxious Hysterical Woman Who Wants Attention, the only reason he's Right so frequently in his snap judgements is cos it reinforces the narrative. its like a crime drama that has the mastermind serial killer masterfully using "loopholes" and lawyering up all sneaky and dodging Justice and if only our poor little cop protags were allowed to do A TEENY BIT of Justified Police Brutality, they could Save Lives!
and like sometimes in the show they will have a patient die despite his efforts to narratively punish him. not to mention, i think its been at least mildly brought up and glossed over how much they absolutely do not think about insurance costs for these ppl for the insane amount of tests that find nothing and Wrong Medications To Force A Diagnosis they use? i think it was brought up once in the episode following a day in the life of cuddy where she had to fight a lawsuit bc a guys insurance like didnt cover his thumb being reattached but chase reattached it anyway while in surgery cos it was The Right Thing To Do and the guy didnt have the money to cover it and the insurance wouldnt pay unless he sued the hospital or whatever. thats like the only time its come up. whereas like frequently the doctor I go to for osteopathic manipulation tries to check in with me and make sure im covered by insurance etc and that im not going to go broke or get buried in medical debt seeing her.
idk. just some Thoughts. not a defense of our current system and all the flaws it enables and enforces etc. his approach to medicine is really reminiscent to me of what I know of the Heroic Era Of Medicine which i dont...love? and hes framed on here as being an asshole but would kill for his patients to get them a diagnosis etc. but hes definitely extremely paternalistic to patients ? and despite some good clippable lines about ableism and being against eugenics, it honestly feels like his stance on that is kind of a toss up.

No cause why do Egyptians trying to "reconnect with ancient Egypt" seem so performative? It feels like they are wearing a Halloween costume.

Your tags on the post telling Biden voters to keep Palestine out of their mouths are so incredibly rude; you're doing exactly what they said not to. Saying that they aren't looking at the bigger picture? Trying to explain how voting works like everyone but you is an idiot?
It's clear the genocide and brutalization of tens of thousands doesn't mean shit to you. How selfish can you be. If you don't care about Palestine, at least have the dignity to not go onto posts like that to tell everyone you think you're more important than them.
fun fact. When someone puts something in tags. You don’t have to read them. Anyways,
Is it selfish to care about every life, and not just one group? my brother in christ I wasnt explaining things like I thought they were stupid, because then I would have CALLED them stupid. I was making a point that yes, there are so many better fucking options and I fully support. but there are also risks to them and that THAT is why people struggle with this fucking decision. Because there’s fucking nuance.
You are painting an image of me in your head that makes you mad because you want people to be mad at. You want people you can point at and cry wolf when it’s nothing more than a dog.
Putting the rest under a read more because the people who don’t give a fuck and decide that they prefer being only reactive, don’t even have to bother reading what I’m saying, they can just go ahead and block me right goddamn now. Because I’m not here to appease people and I won’t pretend I am.
I do care about Palestine. An incredible amount, actually. And I also happen to care about the citizens of my own country and other countries alongside it. And I was sharing my thoughts on a matter that can have far larger consequences than we’re fucking considering.
You are the person who cannot see the bigger picture because you think that just because people are drowning in an ocean, we shouldn’t also try to prevent and help people who are drowning in what comparatively might be a kiddie pool.
They are all drowning regardless, and I am of the belief that harm of any kind, not just one specific situation, should not happen at all.
Also, if you read the tags so thoroughly like you think you did,
you would have seen the part that says you can just block & ignore me if you didn’t like what I was saying.
and if you take such large issue with what I say, then you should’ve taken your ass off anon because this could’ve been just between me and you. But now it’s gonna be between everyone who sees it, because while I know not to feed the trolls, this troll has made me think that maybe I need to directly fucking say what I think should be fucking said.
if you refuse to comprehend what I say that is on you. If you get mad because of that, it is on you. If you continue to respond only REACTIVELY and not PROACTIVELY, that. Is on. You.
