Ruang putih: Misteri bangunan baru di Sindur

Siswa-siswi Erudio Indonesia terkejut ketika mereka datang ke sekolah di Gunung Sindur suatu hari dan melihat sebuah ruangan putih dalam konstruksi di depan sekolah. Tidak ada berita bahwa akan ada bangunan baru di Erudio, tetapi mereka disambut oleh ruang baru ini.

Semua langsung kaget bahwa akan ada bangunan baru. Untuk yang sudah kebiasaan dengan 6 joglo dan 1 pendopo yang di Erudio, ini bisa menjadi kagetan yang menyenangkan atau yang membingungkan.

Tidak hanya kehadiran bangunan baru ini yang mengejutkan, tetapi arsiteksturnya juga membuat beberapa siswa-siswi melihat lebih lama. Joglo-joglo dan pendopo di Erudio memiliki arsitekstur jawa, dengan ruangan yang terbuka dan dibuat dari kayu. Bangunan baru ini tidak memiliki kedua itu.

Ruang putih ini dibuat oleh semen, alat bangunan yang lebih sering dipakai untuk gedung-gedung modern. Atapnya juga bukan atap joglo, tetapi lurus dan datar.

Semua ini menimbulkan pertanyaan, apakah siswa-siswi Erudio Indonesia bersemangat untuk gedung baru ini? Saya menanyakan beberapa dari mereka untuk menadapat opini siswa Erudio.

Jawaban-jawaban dari kedua siswa ini sangat menarik dengan opini mereka. Kita bisa menyimpulkan bahwa siswa-siswi Erudio senang untuk dapat gedung baru dan tidak sabar untuk melihat dan melakukan hal-hal baru pada bangunan ini. Semoga selama Erudio maju kedepan semua projek baru Erudio dapat diterima oleh kebahagiaan dan semangat yang sama seperti gedung ini.

1. I think I first got into Baccano when I was 14, so 2013. I was being an edgy kid who thought anime was for kids and was pretending I was a gamer (despite mainly watching Let's Plays). I still liked watching anime openings with Final Fantasy characters replacing the original characters. Naturally, I found the FFVII Baccano parody and I LOVED it. I watched the original op and I was definitely intrigued. Fast forward a little bit and I decided to browse Netflix where I saw Baccano available for streaming. I recognized it, watched it before school, and the rest is history. I often say that it's the anime that got me back into anime.

2. Novels 100%. That's just because there's so much more. I would love the rest of the arcs to be adapted.

3. Graham Specter is my favorite character! He's very fun, I love reading his rambles, and I love his hints to knowing more than he lets on. Fermet is my least favorite character because he's a bastard but he doesn't have the charisma of the other bastards in the series or any redeeming qualities.

4. Episode 9: Claire Stanfield Faithfully Carries out the Mission. It's where the Flying Pussyfoot arc reveals the Rail Tracer and how he actually achieves the stuff he does behind the scenes. It's a fantastic introduction for a great character. I can't really place my least favorite episode, it's been a while since I watched it.

5. My favorite volume is 16, 1932 Summer: Man in the Killer. It's a great self-contained story with the bonus of being a Graham-centered story. I really want this volume to be adapted into a movie. My least favorite novel is probably 1931 Winter: The Time of the Oasis. It's not bad, but it's just not as great as the other stories.

6. I'm a sucker for the 1930's, that's where I get to see Graham.

7. Probably the Alcatraz Arc, that was a fun one. Once again, it's been a while since I read the novels.

8. Oh, I made a post about this! That Chané was an experiment to see if immortality is hereditary and Leeza was created to test the twins (Sham and Hilton). If she was born male, then she would've been possessed (for the lack of a better word) by Sham.

9. I always want more Graham, but I also want more Gunmeister Smith. And Ronny. And Lua

10. I'm not sure. I don't think I've really thought about it. Maybe Huey, I always think, "Him again? Get a better hobby."

11. I've mainly written fanfiction to feed my need for my otp. I've only shared these with my wife.

12. Jacuzzi and Nice or Issac and Miria for canon because they're so wholesome. I adore Graham and Shaft so much and I wish they were canon.

13. I guess Firo and Ennis are my least favorite pairing. They're a little too plain. For non-canon, I think Eve and Luck. I think they need a little more time together.

14. I can't think of any character arcs that I would change, but rather I would like to see more of the characters after their arcs. Like Rachel.

15. Graham brings me so much joy. Jacuzzi also has me cheering for him a lot.

16. I seem to remember that there's another homunculus as old as Ronny named Rosetta (I think) and I want to know where she comes in or where she was introduced. Also, how hasn't there been more seasons?

17. Oo! I've thought about this so much! I think continuing from the 2007 anime like Durarara!!x2. I think having an arc per season would be best, but 1932 needs a proper retelling.

While I'm still a sucker for looking for edgy stuff, I've found that my favorites are, what I like to call, supernatural slice-of-life (Mushishi, Natsume Yuujinchou) and I've gotten more into horror. For more personal things, I've found out that I'm gay and I like fluffy lesbian romances. Since the novels were officially translated, my favorite arc has changed from the Flying Pussyfoot arc, and Claire has gotten a bit stale and so he's no longer my favorite character.

Hi do you have any advice for understanding Portuguese as someone who completely understands (but barely speaks) Spanish? I noticed some words are similar but with different accents and it trips me off. Are there maybe specific differences that knowing them may help understand Portuguese better?

Well, in relation to accents we have to pinpoint that they're Brazilian Portuguese accents. I don't exactly where from since the players are and I'm not Brazilian, my speciality is European Portuguese but I'll try giving help with what I can and know.

Spanish - Portuguese

In (standard) Brazilian Portuguese the pronouns "Você" is the one most wildly used to mean singular "you". The verb conjugation will change accordingly. If you know Spanish the você and its verb conjugations are most similar to the "usted" ones.

A really funny one that is 100% gonna happen and will end up being a joke - in Spanish the letter Q is read as "cu". Like the English word coo. Anyway, in Portuguese cu means ass. The letter Q is read as "quê", kinda like the beginning of the word Kentucky.

Pronunciation wise in Brazilian Portuguese when there's a t next to an e or i like in the word "falante" (speaker) the t will make the sound ch. The same happens with the letter d which takes the sound dj. Also the e in the end of the sentence takes the "ee" sound in free. So the te in falante sounds the same as the chi in chicken and the de in acende (he/she/they turns [the lights] on) sounds the same as the ge in geometry.

The nh and the ñ are the same thing.

The lh and ll are and are not the same. Usually in Portuguese it always has the same sound, both in Brazil and Portugal, but in the Spanish speaking world it varies a lot. It can sound the same as in Portuguese or not at all. I think no one that is on the server says it the same way as the Portuguese lh though. There's no sound corresponding to that in English so I cannot give a comparison. You'll have to just listen to it. The phonetic symbol is [ʎ].

A lot of the words that start with ll in Spanish will start with ch in Portuguese. Examples: llamar - chamar, llorar - chorar. The ch is always pronounced as sh (in standard Brazilian Portuguese)

At the end of the sentences the letter o sounds like the oo sound in mood or the the u sound in rude.

The ç is always pronounced ss. As ss in assembly. Aka the same as the French ç in façade.

Almost all words that end with on in Spanish in Portuguese they end with ão. Canción - canção, emoción - emoção, leon - leão, limón - limão

Words that end with ã in Portuguese usually end in ana in Spanish but not all words ended in ana in Spanish will end with ã in Portuguese. Irmã - hermana, manhã - mañana, - maçã - manzana

In Portuguese a lot of the so called the intervocal n and L from Latin are lost but in Spanish they are kept. Dolor - dor, color - cor, sonar - soar, luna - lua

The j in Spanish is a sound made with your throat and it's actually closer to some pronunciations of the R in the beginning of words in Portuguese (ex: Rato). This sound also appears in double rr in the middle of words (carro) and after the letter n (honra). However in some places of Brazil the R is also pronounced like the English R. So basically where you'd have that characteristic rrrrr sound in Spanish you have a more throat like sound in Portuguese (which sounds similar to the Spanish j) or something similar to the English R.

The Portuguese j is pronounced like the French j.

The X in Portuguese is pronounced.... In a lot of ways. Sh in puxar, cs in taxi, z in exemplo and in some words not even native speakers are exactly sure how to pronounce it. When in doubt try the sh pronunciation. Spanish has very little X in it and it's almost always pronounced as cs.

S in Portuguese has also a lot of pronunciations but to make this simple: when followed by a consonant or when it's the last letter in a word it will always be read as sh. When in the beginning of a word it's always read as ss and when alone in a word it will be read z. If there's the double ss it's read as just that. So the word casa is not read as "cassa" like in Spanish but as "caza". The word festas is pronounced as feshtash.

Nasal sounds. Just tons of them. The an before a consonant has the same sound as a ã. The on before a consonant (or the om in the end of a word) is the same as the French on. When ending a word em also sounds the same as ãe... The first two sounds ã and on can exist in some Spanish accents however I don't think the ãe or even the õe sounds exist anywhere in Spanish.

The El and La of Spanish will turn into the O and A in Portuguese. El gato - O gato, La isla - A ilha

Most genders are the same however some are reversed. El agua - A água, la mar* - o mar, el árbol - a árvore, el paisaje - a paisagem

There's a lot more certainly and this is probably really confusing but honestly this would work better with audio because trying to explain sounds by text without entering into complicated linguistics and the phonetic alphabet is almost impossible.

Harapan Untuk Pulih dan Kembali

Sudah beberapa bulan aku meninggalkan desa penugasanku, dalam rangka penyembuhan tangan kiriku yang patah untuk dilakukan operasi dan pemulihan. Kenyamanan di kota yang serba ada, juga kondisi tanganku yang perlu pemulihan, membuatku tidak banyak bergerak.

Padahal saat aku bertugas sebagai pengajar muda, aku perlu berjalan kaki berkilo-kilo jauhnya untuk belanja ke toko sayur, atau saat bermain dengan anak-anak. Setiap bulan aku dan teman satu tim PM berkunjung dari satu desa ke desa temanku yang lain dengan kapal klotok 4 jam ke pulau maya, pernah juga kapal 12 jam untuk sampai di desa betok kepulauan karimata. Ya, effort yang diperlukan memang sebesar itu untuk hadir mengajar anak-anak di sana. aku sangat salut dengan bapak ibu guru yang mengajar di sana, mereka hanya pulang ke darat cuma beberapa bulan sekali, karena perjalanan transportasi yang dibutuhkan untuk ke darat memang sangat jarang dan perlu effort besar.

Yah karena sudah terbiasa berjuang di penempatan, aku tidak mau kehilangan spirit itu meski pergerakan tangan kiriku masih terbatas. Beberapa minggu ini aku sengaja pelan-pelan membuat diriku bergerak lebih banyak, dalam rangka menyiapkan mental dan pembiasaan sebelum kembali ke desa penempatanku, di desa Batu Barat, Kabupaten Kayong Utara, Kalimantan Barat.

Aku mulai mencoba memasak menggunakan tangan kanan saja. Tangan kiriku belum bisa memegang benda apapun dengan baik. ya, aku masak sebisanya. Dimulai dari, membantu ibu memasak tumis, menggoreng tahu tempe, mie, membuat roti bakar dan pisang goreng. aku mencoba keluar dari rumah, berjalan kaki kemanapun untuk membeli sesuatu. Entah itu ke mini market, ke tempat fotocopy, membeli jus. Pagi ini berjalan kaki satu jam mengelilingi kampungku tanpa membeli apapun.

Aku sengaja melatih diriku untuk kembali melakukan aktivitas normal, berada di kondisi yang terbatas, meski dengan keadaan tangan kiriku yang belum pulih. Karena dalam beberapa waktu kedepan aku kembali mengajar di sana, aku sudah sangat rindu dengan desaku, juga anak-anak, yang sangat menanti kehadiranku di sana.

Tak sampai hati aku menerima voice note dari murid-muridku kelas 1 yang menanyakan keadaanku, menanyakan kapan aku kembali bersama mereka. " Oo bu ira, bile ibu balik te? bile ibuk nak ajarkan kamek gik?" Maafkan ibu gurumu ini ya nak, harus melewatkan momen puasa, lebaran, bahkan ujian kenaikan kelas tidak bisa membersamai kalian, ibu masih sakit :").

Bahkan di sini, saat sakit pun, aku masih memikirkan bagaimana aku bisa kembali ke desa nanti dengan lebih baik. Aku membaca beberapa buku parenting agar aku bisa mengajar lebih baik, membersamai anak-anak dan guru-guru, juga lebih mindful berinteraksi dengan warga saat aku kembali nanti. Untuk menuntaskan momen pengabdianku.

Ah ya, baru kusadari ternyata satu tahun itu terasa sebentar. Aku belum banyak memberikan sesuatu untuk desa penempatanku. Justru aku belajar arti hidup, perjuangan, bahkan mengenali diri sendiri melalui momen pengabdian ini.

Tunggu aku kembali, anak-anakku. Aku akan kembali dengan lebih kuat, lebih mindful, dan belajar untuk lebih berhati luas, demi mendampingi kalian di beberapa bulan terakhir ini. Kita lanjutkan proses tumbuh dan belajar sama-sama ya.. :")

Bimbi kembali melaju membelah pinggiran matras. Menuju ujung pantai dengan rumah nelayan, tempat favorit kami.

"Iya, kapal isep timah tu yang karam. Baru kemarin gara-gara gagal lempar jangkar karna ombak besar. Ada dimuat di berita" jawab babe menjelaskan.

"Oo.." respon kami berempat bersamaan.

Selekas bimbi berhenti dan membuka pintu, kupandang-pandang lagi kapal karam didepanku tadi. Bentuknya besarr kali, dengan kelir putih tegas salah satu perusahaan tambang BUMN terbesar pula di provinsi kami. Juga kelir perusahaan partner BUMN tersebut disamping kanannya.

Semakin memangkas jarak, aku jadi terpaku. Tetiba teringat beragam champaign reklamasi yg seringkali dibahas dan digaungkan saat masa SD hingga SMA-ku disini. Beragam protes-protes kami, sampai uji Ph dan segala penelitian dampak lingkungan akibat pengerukan timah, yang dulu-dulu kupikir makin tak sopan karna makin dekat menuju rumah-rumah kami.

Ingin ku-sukur-kan saja rasanya sewaktu melihat kapal isap yg hanya makin terlihat setengahnya tadi. Kupikir impas bukan? Atas segala dampak lingkungan, sosial, ekonomi, kesehatan, bahkan politik yg mereka timbulkan. Taipan (beneran taipan disini sebutannya, bukan karna pinjam istilahnya bang tere ya wkwk) makin kaya, sejahtera, masyarakat yg lelah bertarung nyawa. Toh, rugi satu kapal ga bakal langsung bikin mereka miskin bukan?

Keknya, bukan tugasku untuk menghakimi segala hal yg terjadi pada pulau dan penghuninya ini, karna kerja taipan² dan kroni²nya tadi.

Karna kayaknya, sejahat apapun mereka di pikiran kecilku ini, tetap aja,

Ada rizki orang banyak, yang kukira hampir 1/3 masyarakat pulau yg Allah titip beri pada taipan-taipan itu,

Ada puluhan atau bahkan ratusan perusahaan di indonesia bahkan, yg memang membutuhkan timah sebagai salah satu bagian produk mereka,

Dan bahkan, masih ada kita, yg selanjutnya mungkin menjadi konsumen akhir dr produk² perusahaan itu.

Maka perkara ini, sungguh bukanlah hal yg sederhana tuk diatasi. Tapi bukan berarti mustahil tuk teratasi.

Jadi pemerintah tu sulit, karna ada tanggungan rakyat dalam tiap kebijakannya,

Jadi pengusaha juga sulit, karna ada tanggungan karyawan dalam tiap produksinya,

Jadi karyawan dan masyarakat juga sulit, karna ada perut keluarga yg harus diisi di tiap harinya,
