for real WHERE does the idea that [utdr humans] are nongendered so that "you can project on them" come from. their literal character arcs are about NOT being a blank slate to be filled in by the audience

i think i understand the assumption on some level for undertale, because there is a very intentional effort to make you identify with the "player character" in order to make your choices feel like your own (the beating heart of undertale's metanarrative lies in giving you an alternative path to violence against its enemies after all, and whether you're still willing to persue it for your own selfish reasons. YOUR agency is crucial).

of course, the cardinal plot twist of the main ending sweeps the rug from under your feet on that in every way, and frisk's individuality becomes, in turn, a tool to further UT's OTHER main theme: completionism as a form of diegetic violence within the story. replaying the game would steal frisk's life and happy ending from them for our own perverse sentimentality, emotionally forcing our hand away from the reset button.

i think their neutrality absolutely aids in that immersion. but also, there's this weird attitude by (mostly) cis fans where it being functional within the story makes it... somehow "editable" and "up to the player" as well? which is gross and shows their ass on how they approach gender neutrality in general lol.

but also like. there's plenty of neutral, non PCharacters in undertale and deltarune. even when undertale was just an earthbound fangame and the player immersion metanarrative was completely absent, toby still described frisk as a "young, androgynous person". sometimes characters are just neutral by design. it's not that hard to understand lol.

anyone who makes this argument for kris deltarune is braindead. nothing else to say about it.

elaborating on the osdd headcanon [if i can even call it that] my reasoning for Gideon getting diagnosed sooner than Todd is because

he actually goes to therapy. [Not entirely to fix himself but more as a way to vent his frustrations. The therapist has to be the one to make sure Gideon isn’t constantly playing victim or pointing out when hes wrong]

His symptoms show up more externally.

he tests out names/nicknames like crazy [even if they’re all similar, excluding technoman]. If not it’s changing his appearance almost constantly, its a bit subtle until he gets sick of it. Haircuts, outfits, switching what glasses frames he prefers.

It's almost a biweekly to monthly thing, never too consistent to be considered a pattern other than it happening when he's stressed or not [which tends to be extremely often]. He expresses his mood differently when these changes happen. Sometimes when he's happy, he gets arrogant and decides to pick on others. He's extremely condescending during these periods of arrogance [ GMAN] or he can be charismatic, a bit more approachable [Gordon Goose]. When he's upset over the same scenario, he's either explosive [GMAN or any other Gideon fragments] or quietly seething [Technoman]. Nobody can entirely catch on to how he's going to react, only whether he might be upset or not [which even then changes at times when he decides to a bit "nicer"; Gordon Goose]. Given to how often stressed he is, he has a weird stress tolerance. He can carry on a lot, sure, but its obvious when he starts cracking. Differently in public and on his own. It's why there's so many fragments in his system. They only catch onto his diagnosis mostly because of his behaviors despite him having basically no knowledge of his headspace.

Todd on the other hand

Todd, like Gideon, is under the impression that he doesn't necessarily need therapy which ofc affects the concept of him being diagnosed. He only knows that he's traumatized from his dad and being experimented on, some procedures being worse than others. Overall he is aware of his headmate Todd #2. He is under the impression that he just didn't grow out of having an imaginary friend, which just so happens to be nearly identical to him other than a few features [in headspace] and ideals. Todd Ingram [host] is much more apathetic and suppressive as a result of his environment and ego. He often finds reasons to justify himself from hurting others because he wants to feel good about himself. in general he is fairly quiet when not trying to sound smart and prefers to handle stuff on his own. Todd #2 on the other hand is much more extroverted and is much more open about his emotions [not to mention has different tastes in partners or whatever. btw his cheating shit has nothing to do with being plural, he's just an ass]. He can be empathetic about the shit he does and can influence Todd Ingram to feel bad about the shitty things he does. BUT if Todd Ingram feels too bad about it, then this is when they find ways to justify each other's actions. Todd #2 is meant to protect Todd's wellbeing after all, NOT to make him into a better person. Although one of them is less of a jerk, they both have strange morals when it comes to their relationships specifically.

He has the same issue where his behaviors sorta change but it's harder to catch onto because it just seems like he has a mood problem than entirely identity.

Even if he's asked about it, he's under the impression that Todd #2 can't front or "take over". The lines between them is so blurred he's only convinced that he's inconsistent sometimes. If he were to ever get diagnosed, they'd have to rely more on what todd experiences in his head as opposed to how his symptoms show externally like Gideon's does.

Cherry and Marcia as second-wave feminists though

Cherry going so far as to read The Second Sex in the original French version

She didn't understand much but Marcia had read the English translation so she got the basics from her

I saw a headcanon once that Cherry listens to heavy metal, and yes, only it's grrrl riot

They joined the distribution of pamphlets about birth control and such on college campuses once they went

I feel like Cherry would have a stereotypically feminine calling to something like teaching little kids and feel really guilty about it, like she should like something that defies the status quo

Marcia would study biochemistry and work in research

Although, looking at things realistically, I think their feminism would be very heavily centered on white, upper-class women like themselves and they wouldn't really consider WOC or lower class women

UNTIL

One day

At a meeting in a feminist bookstore or whatever (my research was light Wikipedia reading before bed, don't take me too seriously)

They're in a semi neutral location

It's mostly white but across classes

They start talking about birth control and there's this black greaser girl who starts telling them all about Native American and African American and Latina women being sterilised without their knowledge by the same advances they were advocating for

She says they need to do something about that too

But when she said that, she interrupted Cherry and Cherry's proud and hot-headed and started fighting back against her and things escalated and they both stalked off

Marcia got kinda mad on Cherry's behalf because loyalty but also she could see the other girl's point, especially because things like that were so seldom talked about in white (=most well-known) feminist spaces

So they talk it over a while, Marcia and Cherry, and they realise that the other girl had a point and they really had no idea because their version of feminism has been so white-centred

And they're kinda wishing they could apologise and maybe work on something together

And there she is, closing her locker

So they go over to her and apologise and all that good person shit and the girl seems a bit skeptical at first but warms up to them eventually and then suddenly they realise they haven't introduced themselves and the other girl says,

"Nice to meet you, I'm Evie."

Question about NG+ & Report Card Wishlist

Is there ever an opportunity to spend time with Eito in NG+ in order to unlock hints for his report card wishlist?

I, uh, did not really spend much time with him in Route 0 because Math felt like the least useful stat, and In 2nd Scenario it’s possible to gift him things but not spend time with him

I could probably guess my way through since I filled out most of the other report card gifts already (barring characters not available in 2nd Scenario) but I was curious if there are routes/free days where I could just spend time with him normally ^^”
