Diceshipping for the ask game?
Ask Game
1. What made you ship it?
The short answer is: my own imagination.
It's one that I've only recently given serious thought to, so this is a new one that I'm playing with. I like to think that if Yami Bakura had met Duke during Duke's villain phase, they might have teamed up, not because Bakura would have seen Duke as an asset to him, but because he thought he could use Duke as a distraction for Yugi and co while YB does his own thing. I think he would have found Duke too interesting to toy with to get rid of after that. As villains together, they would have very Fatal Attraction vibes and be a super possessive, fucked-up couple in a way that's fun to watch but horrible for real life. Duke keeps trying to prove he should be Bakura's focus instead, and as a result keeps getting in the way. Bakura is his mentor in villainy. Duke will absolutely turn on him if he ever finds out that Bakura killed Pegasus, and then it becomes a "if I'm going down, I'm taking you down with me" mutual-destruction-but-at-least-we're-together kind of thing.
All evil and villainy aside, I think YB (esp the Season Zero version) would actually really enjoy Dungeon Dice Monsters. Then he sees the hottie who invented it, and in the most unhinged way possible, he says "I want to devour you" (because that's him trying to flirt) and Duke sees it for exactly what it is but laughs and says, "Get in line, pal, you're not the only one," and Bakura realizes he has to prove himself worthy of his attention (that's always going to be a theme with this ship). So he does his usual attempts at getting to know someone: digging through their trash, stalking them online, breaking into their home—and decides that since DDM means so much to Duke and us something Bakura also enjoys, he's going to prove him myself by winning a DDM tournament. Duke is present at the tournament of course and sees Bakura's efforts and realizes that he isn't just one of his fans and is seriously interested, so Duke decided to give this raccoon of a man a chance. You know they shop at Hot Topic together to be their fabulous goth selves and bond over dice collecting.
2. What's your favorite thing about this ship?
Goth dice dorks bonding over complex dungeon games.
Duke is the bad bitch that Bakura pulled by being autistic.
Duke doesn't care about Bakura being an eldritch magical monster of destruction, he will still call him Babygirl~ and Bakura gets flustered just trying to process that.
And if we go with Duke x Zorkura, you know Dukey Boi becomes a certified monster-fucker, and is proud of it.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
I don't know that this rare pair even has popular or unpopular opinions on it, but I do think it might be uncommon for people to consider both the villain and non-villain potentials for this ship, because I think most people forget about Duke's villain phase (or Duke entirely 😭).
I did just realize that they lowkey have the same vibes as Thiefshipping without the toxicity or the mind control, and I feel like that opens up a whole new world of possibilities. 👀👀👀👀

Does Houndoom fire actually hurt... That much? I'm tempted to give my Nyx (A Houndour right now) an everstone if it does -@absol-trainer
Hey! Great question and 100% the reason why I started DDM to begin with!
Do Houndoom flames really hurt, of course it does depend on your pain tolerance but as someone who has gotten burned by Temis (my houndoom) for various reasons since I've had her... the short reason is they do.
Comparing the flames of Temis to Astro (typhlosion), I'd definitely say that Temis's burns hurt more. The reason for that is due to the toxins that Houndoom naturally have in their stomachs.
In essence I'd say that you're simultaneously being burned and poisoned but it's not all the time. Houndoom can dry burn you, which means they can choose to not have the toxins in their stomachs mix with their flames. If you don't give your Houndoom a reason to burn you, then you'll be fine, especially if you're raising them from a Houndour.
A Houndoom will typically mix their toxins when angry, as the pokedex says. Temis has never burned me with her toxins in the years that I've had her, but even her normal burns can still hurt as most burns do.
Houndour do have the same toxins but they're significantly less potent and just be careful about newly evolved houndoom if you do plan on evolving Nyx, the sudden boost in power to said toxins can be a little hard to control at first but they'll get the hang of it in time.
They do not, however, last forever. The pain will stay longer than a normal fire type's but it does eventually go away, follow your typical procedures in treating a burn and it'll be fine but if you think that your houndoom has mixed its toxins definitely get to a doctor.

The Grand Opening
At last, the dreaded day has come.
Of course, Yugi had made a promise to his grandpa, not to go anywhere near that new shop. But on the other hand, how could the impassioned gamer possibly stay away? Competition or not, Yugi couldn't deny his excitement, barely able to sleep the night before.
Is it really alright to break a promise to Grandpa? his Other Self asks from within their heart as Yugi makes his way just a block up the street from their own game shop.
"grandpa's tastes are kind of old-fashioned. it's not his fault, but it's not really a surprise something better finally came along..." Yugi answers out loud. "but if there's a new game out, i've gotta play it!!"
However, seeing the impressive crowd lining up outside the Black Crown does leave a heavy weight in Yugi's chest. There must be a thousand people in line, a stark contrast to the twelve customers Kame had seen in the past week.
For just a second, he considers turning around, returning to grandpa and going down with their own ship. Then he spots his friends, Téa waving excitedly from her spot in line with Joey and Bakura, and Yugi's spirits lift again. He sprints over, returning the gesture with a big grin as he slips into line, to join the the three.
There's a little under an hour before the store is set to open, but with the company of his friends, Yugi expects the time to pass quickly. A clown dressed in an elaborate costume and black and white painted mask walks amongst the crowd, waving and stopping to take selfies with the eager patrons as they wait. Joey shivers as the clown passes them, waving excitedly with oversized gloves.
"Don't that guy just give ya the creeps?" Joey groans
"I think he's sort of charming," Bakura says with a faraway smile that makes Yugi chuckle.
Before any of them realize, 11 o'clock strikes. A hush falls over the crowd.
The doors of the Black Crown game store open for the very first time, swinging open with dramatic flair. That very clown steps out to wordlessly welcome the eager patrons, ushering them inside with a grand gesture of his gloved hands.
The orderly line turns to chaos almost immediately as the crowd of people surge into the towering building in droves. The group of friends try their hardest to stay together, but against the waves of people larger than himself, Yugi ends up being swept away from the others. He calls for Joey, but reaching them through the sea of customers proves impossible.
"We'll meet upstairs in the café!!!" he hears Téa's voice over the excitement of the crowd, and that's good enough.
Yugi has a new game to check out, after all.
Getting up to the counter proves a challenge against the swarming crowd. Though the massive building hosts several floors of entertainment, no one wants to risk missing out on the exclusive, new game. A thousand people push their way to the front, a surging sea of bodies eager to make their purchase before exploring further, and Yugi finds himself swept up in the tide.
That's when he swears he hears his name above the commotion.
Yugi looks around himself and spots the clown from earlier, standing tall and still, like a lighthouse in the raging sea. Behind his black and white mask, the clown's eyes bore into the young gamer.
For a moment, Yugi stares back in bewilderment, before the clown reaches out an inviting hand.
"huh? me..??" Yugi asks, pointing a finger at himself for confirmation.
The clown nods.
Yugi looks around nervously, but no one else seems to pay him or the clown any mind. He nudges past a group of middle schoolers, and the clown ushers him through the crowd with a parting wave, guiding him to the front of the line.
"hey, he let me cut! this is my lucky day!" Yugi giggles to himself.
He knew our name...? Is it because of our reputation?
"who cares!! we're going to get ddm!! whatever ddm is...."
His thought is cut short by a firm hand gripping his shoulder aggressively.
Yugi turns sharply, finding himself being held by two men much, much larger than himself, both clearly dressed in security uniforms. His heart races.
"You're coming with us," the second guard spits as he grabs Yugi's other arm.
"w-what's going on? if this is because i cut, that clown--"
"Don't play stupid!" Yugi's cut short by an an oppressive squeeze on his shoulder. The second guard yanks him out of the crowd. "Shoplifting will not be tolerated here. You're in big trouble, kid."
Yugi's violet eyes go wide and he struggles, tries to pull himself away from the larger men, only to be lifted off the ground entirely by his skinny arms. He's more dragged than escorted, kicking and yelling, into a back room. Once the door closes behind them, one of the security guards wrestles Yugi's new jacket off of the young man, as the second guard takes something much more precious from him.
"hey!! give me back my millennium puzzle!!" Yugi shouts, tries to lunge for his treasure, but he's already restrained again by the guard who took his jacket.
"Look here. He's got DDM boosters in his pocket."
"are you serious?! i-i didn't take those!! how could I, they were behind the count--" Yugi's protesting is cut short by a powerful backhand to the face.
As the stars in his vision fade, he watches as another joins them in the security office. As the guard hands the Millennium Puzzle to the very clown who had ushered Yugi to the front of the line, and suddenly something clicks.
"It seems under that innocent mask is the face of a thief," the clown snickers, The light glints off the shimmering gold relic as it dangles by the chain in his gloved hand.
"you put those in there--!!"
"Now, now! Little liars and theives need to be taught a lesson. Show him to his punishment game!!"
"let me go!!!"
Once again the guards grab him by his arms, dragging him across the small security office to a second door, where they all but throw him to the floor. Yugi scrambles to his feet as quickly as he can, lunges desperately for the door, only for it to slam in his face.
Before his eyes can adjust, a single light switches on overhead, revealing a small, enclosed room with only the one exit, walls adorned with dozens of masks, the same as the one worn by the clown who had set him up. In the middle of the room is an intricate table, similar to the smaller Duel Arenas in Kaibaland. And sitting at the head of that table, facing Yugi with a cold, piercing stare is the annoying new student from his English class. The cocky playboy who had tried to humiliate Joey with rigged bar games.
"ootogi-kun, what are you do--"
"You can call me Duke. Actually, make that Master Duke. Have a seat, Yugi," he says with a voice like velvet and an inviting wave of his hand. "Our game's just about to start."

Fic Writer Interview
I was tagged by the wonderful @davonysus (thanks!!) This was pretty fun, though I did have to wait to post until after the OwlPost reveals had been done as aside from DDM, almost everything else in my list was gifts for this year.
Name: Jade/WrtrGrl
Fandoms: pretty much exclusively Harry Potter; though I have dipped my toe briefly into Fairy Tail (there are of course many other fandoms I love, but not that I read or write within).
Where you post: AO3 and occasionally FF.Net (though my patience is dwindling for ff.net)
Most Popular Oneshot: When Children Play. This one kinda surprised me. I don’t do adult Drarry often and I didn’t have time to do as much with this idea as I had originally wanted, so to me it wasn’t quite “done” I guess. But people have really responded to it so that was an amazing surprise! I’m so very grateful.
Most Popular Multi-Chapter: Despising Draco Malfoy (or DDM for short) for sure.
Favourite story I’ve written so far: Hm. I do love DDM (it started as an experiment in style and turned into something I’m incredibly proud of), but, not going to lie I absolutely adore I Think He Knows. It’s just a small bit of fluffy goodness, and I feel like Molly really spoke through me while I was writing that piece. I love it.
Fic you were too nervous to post: Oh gosh. I have a bunch of them from when I was a teen; but then they were also never finished. Um, lets go with Bedtime Stories.
How do you choose your titles? Either they come to me very quickly around the start of writing the fic, or I look for something within the story after it’s finished that I can piggyback off as a title.
Do you outine? Not really. I plants a lot. Mostly if I do any planning ahead it’s in the form of half written scenes rather than actually outlining but usually it’s planning in retrospect (after the first draft). In saying that, I usually need an ending before I can start though.
Complete: I Think He Knows, Wish, Snow Blind, Christmas in the Sand, When Children Play, Rocks at my Window, Be My Friend, Obliviate (FF.net only).
In Progress: DDM
Coming soon: my possible entry for Big Bang (I know, I know, why am I signing up to a 50K story when I still have 30 chapters to write of DDM? I don’t know, I’m clearly insane). This story will be a bit angsty with some hurt/comfort and a dash of fluff/smut. I’m hovering on the name I’ll Be Good. Maybe. I’m not totally sure I love it yet 😅 but the idea is lodged firmly in my brain.
Prompts: sure! Pop it in an ask and I’ll give it a go 😊

623-624: "Time for Tearful Goodbyes! Departure from Punk Hazard!" and "G5 Destroyed! Doflamingo's Raid!"
Tumblr media
DOFLAMINGO, YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE, PLEASE. D:
Those veins will blow any second!
You need to relax. Subscribe to Headspace. Take a yoga class. Kill some innocent Marines--- oh...
Oda has knocked it out of the park yet again. Now Doflamingo has entered the game, the implications of the wider criminal network of New World pirates has come to the fore. This, of course, means Law’s plan to take down Kaidou is not only super ambitious but also fraught with peril.
Considering I go on and on about peril like a broken record, this is a good thing.
And sorry about that last mini hiatus, by the way. Blame it on full rewrites and Resident Evil 2.
“Watcha thinkin’ bout, Luffy?”  “Chikkin.”
Tumblr media
“And thus the Strawhat crew spent some time intoxicated during their celebrations.”
Eloquently summed up by the Narrator, I feel. xD  Totally love how the Strawhats can switch from party mode to sober and ready to sail within minutes. Guess that’s part of the pirate job description. Things change on a whim out there in the New World. Sobering up fast is a vital survival skill.
There was a mini recap of the terms of Law’s alliance with Luffy. Smoker wanted to know what was going on. “There’s no way you believed I’d keep a promise to a pirate like you. If you really wanted to silence me, you had plenty of chances to kill me. What are you planning to use Strawhat for?”
At first I was like, what the hell, Smoker? Stop being arsey with all the Marines vs Pirates crap. You only escaped Punk Hazard alive because you teamed up with Law. Everyone’s on the same page right now. What happens on Punk Hazard stays on Punk Hazard. None of your men will rat on you for chatting to Law. Later, of course, I changed my opinion on this.
The recap of the Law/Luffy alliance chat revealed a bit more information about Kaidou. According to Law, Kaidou the Beast is known as the most powerful creature in the world. Creature, I think, being the operative word here because he might not actually be human?
One of those hype-building silhouette stills showed up, with Big Mom, Blackbeard, Kaidou, Shanks and Whitebeard. Couldn’t make out much of Kaidou, so I’m still none the wiser on the appearance front. Maybe he’ll be hairy, with that whole beast thing he’s got going on.
Back in the present, Law was characteristically cagey about the chat with Smoker. He told Smoker there was no real reason he let him live, but turned round and spilled that he was “planning on heading to Green Bit.”
I’m still confused about the Green Bit scene. Mainly because I have no clue where/what it is. Is is a code name for Dressrosa? Is it another island completely? Is it a town somewhere in the New World? Or is Law trying to throw Smoker off the scent because he doesn’t want his favourite smokey Marine to be endangered again?
Whatever the case, Law had some final business to attend to before waving goodbye to Punk Hazard. Caesar, Baby 5 and Buffalo were chained up in a corner and drew the filthiest looks when he walked over. (Well, Baby 5 and Buffalo did. Caesar was still unconscious.) They really are acting as if Law has betrayed them somehow.
Doflamingo also keeps calling Law a brat. Vergo was also riding the brat train hard. Can’t help but think Law was affiliated with Doflamingo when he was a kid. Maybe he resented it all these years and this is overdue payback.
We hate love hate love you JUST GO BEFORE WE CRY!
Tumblr media
At the harbour, the Strawhats continued to be absolute diamonds. Apparently, Nami and Chopper refused to sail until they knew the kids would be okay. The good news is that Vegapunk himself offered to help cure the kids of Caesar’s meth candy! Wonder what Vegapunk is thinking right now. He used to work with Caesar. Probably, “Always knew that guy was an asshole.”
As Luffy couldn’t be bothered waiting for another Marine ship to arrive, he told Smoker to just take the SAD tanker and send the kids home on it. Good decision, given a feathery menace was approaching at speed.
The scene with the G5 pretending to hate the Strawhats - erecting a protective banner so the kids wouldn’t be able to thank the dirty, cheating pirates - made me mad at first. I thought, damn, was that ungrateful or what? The Strawhats were the reason they escaped Caesar’s lab with their lives. If the Strawhats hadn’t been there, they would be locked up in cells and the last thing they’d ever hear would be a hiss of gas and a soft, “Shurorororororororo....”
But when the foghorn blasted and the ship set sail, Oda revealed some of the G5 guys’ inner thoughts. Sanji lead them out. Zoro and Tashigi teamed up. Law and Smoker fought together. Usopp guided the Minions to safety. Chopper and Nami helped the kids. Then I saw the sweat drops and the oddly tight jawlines.
Yup. They were fronting.
When Tashigi called them out on their rudeness, they even admitted it. “But Tashigi-chan, if we don’t stop insulting them, we’ll end up actually liking these outlaws.”
Ha. It is way too late for that, G5. You love the Strawhats. No one can escape the roaring event horizon of their charm.
Luffy was totally oblivious to it all. He just laughed and, “What weird Marines.” I mean, come on, G5. Don’t you realise by now that Luffy does not do subtlety?
As they walked to the ship, Zoro suddenly realised Law was tagging along. Usopp whispered in his ear, “Oh yeah, you don’t know. Luffy’s making trouble again.” Poor Zoro. Always the last one to know. xD
A brief flashback of all the major moments in the arc finished it up nicely. Luffy taking that DDM distress call, the fiery dragon, finding Kinemon, discovering Caesar had been drugging innocent kids, Smiley, Luffy declaring he would “kick Caesar’s ass and kidnap him” (best), saving Mocha, Caesar gloating about how well connected and protected he was before the final grizzly magnum smacked him out of the action.
A standard, uplifting ending with dramatic fanfare and Luffy shouting, “SET SAIL!”
But not quite.
For Doflamingo drew nigh...
Law Didn’t Spend Seven Years In Med School To Be Called Traff
Tumblr media
The scene when Law chatted to Doflamingo over DDM was probably my favourite across 623-624. It ramped up the stakes and reset the peril level to red alert. Only one might be tied with it.
Doflamingo bounded across the “sky path” (what is that?”) He bemoaned the fact it cut short. “You brats seem to have the devil’s luck.” He spied something floating on a raft below. He found Buffalo and Baby 5′s disembodied heads chained to it. He jumped down for a chat.
It was weird seeing Baby 5 and Buffalo so contrite. They kept declaring how ashamed they were. “I wanna apologise with my death. I was needed and couldn’t help,” etc. Doflamingo didn’t want to kill them. He needed answers.
What Doflamingo didn’t spy was a video DDM. Law’s voice spoke through it.
“What a surprise. I didn’t think the boss would come out himself.”
“Is that you, Law? Long time no see. Couldn’t you have stayed so I could talk to you in person?” At the point, Doflamingo was still supremely confident.
“If you’re looking for Caesar, he’s with me.”
To hammer home the point, Caesar’s wheedling voice cried, “JOKERRRRRR, PLEASE SAVE ME!” (Lol, oh Caesar.)
“Where are Baby 5 and Buffalo’s bodies?”
“That’s not what we’re talking about,” Law said, taking back control of the conversation. “Let’s make a deal.”
“Don’t try to be so tough,” Doflamingo laughed. “A brat shouldn’t try to act like an adult.” (There’s that calling Law a brat again. Plus, Doflamingo tried to take back control of the situation by ignoring Law and pressing his own agenda.) “Where are you right now? You shouldn’t anger me?”
“Anger? Your most important trading partner is Kaidou the Beast. You’re the one who shouldn’t anger him. What do you think would happen if he found out you couldn’t make SMILEs anymore? He’s not a man you can negotiate with. There would be a brutal battle. You would be killed.”
For the first time, the slasher smile was wiped off Doflamingo’s face. Forehead veins began to throb. That had obviously hit a nerve.
“You’re taking this joke too far, Law. What do I have to do for you to give back Caesar? What are your demands?”
And there it was. It definitely hit a nerve because Doflamingo has deigned to negotiate with the brat. Kaidou really must be something if he can intimidate Doflamingo.
Law’s demand was kind of weird. It must mean something, but I have no idea what yet.
“Give up your Shichibukai post. Throw away everything you have gained these past ten years and return to being a normal pirate. Of course, if you do that, the Admirals will hunt you down. You have until tomorrow morning’s news. If I see you’ve retired from the Shichibukai, I’ll contact you again. If I see nothing, negotiations are over.”
I have no idea why Doflamingo *needs* the Shichibukai position so badly (other than being able to live on Dressrosa, I guess) but Law threatening to take it from him in exchange for Caesar made him M. A. D.
Multiple veins popped.
It was not pretty.
I guess Doflamingo is now on a deadline. Here’s hoping he does not catch up with the Strawhats before they reach Dressrosa. For that is their canon confirmed next destination! They are sailing to meet Doflamingo on his home turf. Foolhardy? Of course! It wouldn’t be the Strawhats otherwise, right?
Meanwhile... Back On Sunny
Tumblr media
This was so funny. Chopper fixing up Caesar so he can beat him all over again. Even Sanji said, “What kind of doctor are you?” But Caesar, though. Imagine bitching and moaning, “Oweeee, it hurts!” when you gleefully killed tons of people without a flicker of remorse. You deserve it, Caesar. Suck it up and take the L.
Franky also told the story of how he retrieved Mini Merry Mark II eight times (Franky’s long, luscious hair in bunches was excellent, btw).
While Sunny descended a Sea Slope (dat Oda creativity again), the team gathered round to discuss The Plan.  Zoro, now aware the plan was to take down a Yonkou, was suddenly and enthusiastically on board. Luffy asked if anyone objected and Brook replied, “Does objecting do anything?” (Lol, Brook.)
Sanji reminded Law again with a whisper in his ear that Luffy’s idea of an alliance is different from his. I think this might mean something later, so I am recording every instance of this warning as it’s come up twice now.
Then Sanji called Caesar a weird sheep and smacked him when Caesar said, “You’re all fools. You think you’ll get away with this? You’ve landed yourselves on some major big shots’ wanted lists. I hope you realise your foolishness before you die.”
And Chopper was like, “Oi. No kicking until after I’m done treating him.” xD
Law updated the Strawhats on the situation. Most of the Big Name Pirates of the New World have turf on this sea. This has created a massive criminal syndicate. Everyone is linked with everyone else. The scale of operations is on a completely different scale than the Strawhats have been used to. Deals and trades are done in secret so the don’t attract Marine attention. Law also updated them on Doflamingo’s trading relationship with Kaidou.
I’m not sure but I get the feeling Law is enjoying the prospect of taking down Doflamingo even more than Kaidou. There is history between these two and I cannot wait to find out what it is.
Ahem...
Tumblr media
And the scene that is tied with Law threatening Doflamingo over DDM?
Why it’s the scene when Aokiji Showed Up Out Of Nowhere To Kick Doflamingo’s Ass, of course!
While Smoker and his G5 guys stayed behind to rescue any petrified survivors (still a bit salty about that, but I’ll get over it), Doflamingo landed on Punk Hazard like a bomb going off. A single, loose pink feather falling to earth was all the warning they had. Then he hit them with Conqueror’s Haki.
The veins. Oh, the veins. Veins galore criss-crossed that forehead. I counted approximately twenty.
I thought, this guy is out for blood. But he had questions that needed answered first. Doflamingo is not a reckless guy.
“Are they all gone? The tanker’s not here, either. I believe a group of pirates were just here until a minute ago. Where did they go?”
Maybe if he hadn’t opened with Conqueror’s Haki, he would have got some answers. G5 resented the fact he’d attacked them. There was an attempt to fight Doflamingo. An attempt.
With a few twitches of his fingers, Doflamingo took control of their bodies.
“Law could be a problem but Strawhat is just a pirate. Where did you let them run off to?” He turned the G5 against each other, forced friendly-fire massacre style. His pointy shoe stomped a random G5′s chest. “ANSWER ME. What direction did those brats go?”
When the G5 couldn’t answer, they had outlived their usefulness. “Then die.”
Luckily, Smoker smoked into the fray and saved their asses. There was a brief stare off. Doflamingo had a Scary Shiny Glasses moment.
“Smoker, tell me where those brats are.”
This is when Smoker really came through for me. He knew Doflamingo was a corrupt betrayer of the Marines. He played dumb, but could not resist getting a jab in at Doflamingo.
“Who knows? I sure don’t, Joker. They must’ve slipped through our fingers. How can I explain this to our Base Commander, Vergo?”
Smoker made two mistakes. He revealed to Doflamingo that he knows his underworld nickname and hinted he was aware of Vergo’s true allegiance.
Doflamingo’s voice went eerily quiet (I like his VA). “He’s dead, right? It sounds like you know too much.” His hands twitched and he leapt at Smoker.
Does Doflamingo have telekinesis, or something like that? A power that lets him control the movement of others? I’m still not sure what it is. It looked great in the fight, though. Smoker kept getting cut by slashes out of nowhere.
Then, just as Doflamingo sat on Smoker, about to end his existence, a Presence drew up behind him.
“Oh, my. Sorry, little boy. Could you move, please? He’s my friend.”
Holy hype machine, Batman.
You could have knocked me down with a feather. Aokiji, fresh from quitting the Marines, is back in business!
Doflamingo is not having a good day.

Usopp has become oddly genre-savvy.

DGI Adventure 05-01-2017 Month in Review - April 2017
Tax month! We filed for an extension because we temporarily lost some stuff during the move and just didn’t feel like dealing with it. We paid estimated taxes though. Taxes suck.
Fortunately most of our income producing investments are in tax-advantaged accounts.
I didn’t write any posts in April because I’m a horrible blogger. I’m sorry dear readers. I don’t have much of an excuse other than I’m settling into a new job, and I’m probably spending too many hours at it.
Anyway here’s what happened in April.
Portfolio Summary
Tumblr media
Stock Purchases
4 stocks purchased. And I didn’t write individual posts about any of them because I’m a horrible blogger.
All are additions to existing positions; projected annual income increased by $446.00 based on current dividends.
04/07/17 - CSCO: 100 shares purchased @ $34.00/share. This was the result of a put option assignment. The original option was sold on 3/20/16, and I didn’t write about it because I’m a horrible blogger. Sorry.
Annual projected income is increased by $116.00/year based on the projected annual dividend of $1.16/share.
4/10/17 - BLW: 300 shares purchased @ $6.23/share. Believe it or not I’m continuing to build my CEF portfolio. The goal is still to cover the annual RMD in the beneficiary account using closed end bond funds. I’m about halfway there after this month’s purchases. Everybody makes a big deal about how bond prices are going to crash because interest rates are going to go up. I’ve been waiting over a year and am getting a little impatient.
Annual projected income is increased by $95.4/year based on the projected annual dividend of $0.318132/share.
4/10/17 - BKT: 150 shares purchased @ $15.69/share. More CEF portfolio building. Bonds are boring, what can I say?
Annual projected income is increased by $156.60/year based on the projected annual dividend of $1.044/share.
4/10/17 - DSU: 100 shares purchased @ $11.61/share. The last of the CEF purchases this month. All three of these were going ex-div on 4/11 so I decided to pick some up.
Annual projected income is increased by $78/year based on the projected annual dividend of $0.78/share.
I was inactive with my UVXY puts. My previous position, which are still open, are:
2 contracts of the UVXY 18JAN19 15.00 P (bought 3/24/17 for $9.40793/share)
I have no way of projecting what kind of income these trades will generate, but I am pretty confident they will be positive. The positions I liquidated in march, netted a ~21% and ~46% annualized return.
All UVXY put trades are documented in the “UVXY” tab of the Dividend Income Tracker.
For the uninitiated, I am shorting UVXY because it is the worst ETF ever. I use long put positions so I can avoid the use of margin and do these trades in tax-advantaged accounts.
Additional exploits can be found here, here and here.
Pay Days and Raises
Dividend Income Tracker is published back at the mothership and has been updated.
Total investment income of $647.42 with a taxable total of -$16.33. We’ll call it 12 “pay days” with 29 individual payments received.
Options premiums represent $318.86 of that total.
There were no capital gains realized.
Which leaves $344.89 of actual bona fide dividends (and $-16.33 of P2P lending interest).
Pretty even split. This is a dividend blog after all!
Lending club income is aggregated into a single income record for simplicity’s sake. It actually arrives as a lot of small payments over the course of the month. Two more loans were charged off this month which is why the monthly income total was negative. In the course of the month the two loans that were in the grace period managed to fall into the 31-120 days late category. That must mean they’re just barely over 31 days late. Presumably I shouldn’t have any more charge offs for at least a couple more months. Also not too many troublemakers in the pipeline.
Tumblr media
This should be fun to track. This table will grow with each monthly update.
Lending club’s algorithm has suggested I write down $36.91 worth of principal for the loans that are late or in the grace period, but as the eternal optimist, I’m going to continue to wait until the loans are actually charged off to recognize the loss.
Last month the algorithm suggested I write off $62.80. The difference as I’m learning is not the number of loans in each category but the severity of the issue. So last month we had 2 VERY late loans that evidently were about to get charged off. This month we have 2 loans in the same “category” but they’re obviously not as late, so there’s a lower adjustment.
Comparisons
Month over month, investment income was down from $1,123.47 or -42.37%.
Year over year on the other hand represents a bit of a bump. In April of 2016 I earned $585.52 in passive income. This month represents a 9.56% increase over that total.
Pretty soon I will have been doing the whole dividend investment boosted by options trading thing for a whole year. The YoY totals are going to tighten up a bit.
Raises
One of the dividend distributions received represented a raise:
WMT paid $0.51/share compared to $0.50/share in the previous quarter. That represents a 2.0% increase which is pretty sad. Shares closed Friday at $75.18. With a quick and dirty DDM analysis (single stage, 10% discount), WMT would need a 7.3% DGR for the current share price to be “fair”. I have an open call contract with a $74 strike and a May08 expiration against the WMT shares in the inherited IRA. The value might be a bit stretched right now.
The CSCO dividend also represented an increase, but since I didn’t own shares previously I don’t count it here in this section. It was a good one too: $0.29 vs $0.26 which is 11.5%
I closed this article last month with this statement:
Here’s looking forward to an interesting April
It wasn’t very interesting, but that’s okay. Is it time to “sell in May and go away”? I doubt it, but we’ll find out.

One Piece Movie: Strong World
Tumblr media
The only thing I knew about this before wading in was Strong World was written by Oda himself. This was a good sign. After all, Toriyama wrote Battle of Gods, one of the recent Dragonball movies and I liked it a lot. Mainly because it was funny, but it also expanded the universe and opened up a ton of new potential plot directions. (Granted, I haven’t watched the latest DB series, so I have no idea if this was a good idea or not.)
The first thing I noticed about Strong World was, of course...
Hello, Movie Budget!
Tumblr media
It is beautiful.
Seriously, look at those floating islands. The scope. The detail. Tiny Luffy in the right hand corner. If this was a video game, I’d be thrilled to play it.
Everything in this movie was that little bit lovelier than usual. There are a couple of scenes that stick out in particular. When Robin, Franky and Brook escape from the armed ants near the beginning (the swirling blossoms, the vibrant colour scheme). When the Strawhats look up at Shiki, stood on a stonehenge-like trilithon with the setting sun behind him (nice silhouette of the Strawhats) and, in general, those amazing shots of the Strawhats lined up, ready to fight.
Everyone looked great, too. All the Strawhats had new outfits (Robin suited the glasses and casual jumper dress, and Franky was perfect for that leather jacket).
Plus that Nami fan service...
But I suppose the important question is this: why was Luffy tearing about on those floating islands, running away from a hilarious conveyor belt of murderous animals that culminated in a giant preying mantis being suplexed by a huge sloth bear?
The answer is this guy.
This Is What You Get For Being Nice, I Guess...
Tumblr media
Shiki was a good movie villain. Threatening enough to cause trouble for the Strawhats but not over-powered to the point it disrupts the main canon plot (I hate it when that happens in movie specials). I like how he was integrated into the main plot (at least in the anime). There was that teaser back in Marineford when Sengoku mentioned Shiki in the same vein as Roger (and I thought it was something noteworthy, haha).
Well, it was a bit.
Post-Marineford, Shiki, who had been defeated by Gol D. Roger twenty years prior, had returned. After destroying a few innocent towns in East Blue, he flew his vast, floating island of a ship through the airspace of Marineford, its oars cutting through the clouds and left Garp and Sengoku a little message to remember him by. (That scene was good, if a bit CGI-tastic.)
On his way, he encountered the Straw Hats, who were just hanging out on the Sunny. The Coo News dropped and they discovered the grim situation in East Blue. Then, a vast ship passed overhead. Amazing, right? But it was headed straight into the path of a dangerous storm that Nami had spotted. Luffy, being decent, gave the order to alert the floating ship.
Shiki, being a villain, reacted somewhat badly to this news. He shot every single Navigator on his ship. What did he pay them for? Honestly! But look through yonder telescope. There was a sexy, young Navigator on the Sunny. The one who was sharp enough to spot the coming cyclone. And there was a vacancy. Several, in fact.
Aided by the power of his Float Float Fruit, he descended onto the Sunny’s deck. His design is cool. Those sword legs are awesome. It did not take him long to “invite” the Strawhats to his place: the floating islands of Merveille.
I say, “invite”. Kidnap is much more accurate.
Shiki’s Diabolical Fanservice-Filled Plan
Tumblr media
And that was how the Strawhats ended up on Merveille.
And Nami in a swimming pool in a bikini, of course. (Don’t think I didn’t notice that scene when Nami pulled up those impossibly tiny shorts. But hey, it’s a tropical island. It’s hot, right?)
Mid-swim, Shiki and his goons showed up. For some reason, they performed a dance number. One of his goons was also one of the most annoying characters I’ve ever seen in a movie. His shoes made a dumb fart sound. His name was Dr Indigo, but I’ll call him Fart Clown.
Fart Clown rushed in with a new test subject: a duck that generates electricity. Shiki has been engineering fighting animals using a drug they developed from a local plant: the IQ plant. Nami did not approve and asked him what the hell he was doing. Shiki refused to reveal his goal, but dropped a few Significant Lines. “I’ll tell you once you join my crew. There are certain favours I’ll only do for crew members.”
Of course, Nami wasn’t planning to stay long. As soon as she found an escape route, she was off, with Electric Duck Billy in tow. Flying around with Billy, she spotted Luffy because he had amassed an increasing stampede of roid-raged creatures after his blood.
Tear-Filled Reunions?
Tumblr media
(Best joke in the movie. Why do you pretend to hate each other? You are fooling no one, guys.)
Meanwhile, the other Strawhats had been finding out interesting things.
Sanji and Usopp dodged sabre-toothed tigers and sharp-shooting buffalo and found themselves at a village filled with malnourished older residents and young children. They found out about how Shiki controls the village, takes away working-age residents to work at his palace, how the rest can only scrape by and that DDMs patrol the streets, recording everything anyone says or does. These people also had feathers. Why? No one knew.
Zoro and Chopper rescued a small girl (there is always a filler kid in movies) who had strayed from her village in search of a plant to help her grandmother. The grandmother was laid low by an airborne malady that originated in the Daft Green trees that surrounded the village. A double-edged sword: the trees kept them safe from the marauding animals but were also poisonous. There is a cure, but it’s derived from the IQ plant, and Shiki takes them all for his mutant animal projects. Chopper, by the way, did not have a good time around the trees.
Robin, Franky and Brook (well, not Brook, ahaha) avoided being stripped of their flesh by a crowd of angry, armed ants, then Franky improvised a Crawley Davidson (ahaha) to travel across the island in search of the others. There, they came across Shiki’s Palace. Elite pirates had gathered. There was a dress code. A random pirate told them Shiki had plans to demo his world-domination plans by destroying the village where all the feathered people lived, just like he’d destroyed the other towns in East Blue. (I liked how quick Robin was to play along. She’s such a good intel-gatherer.)
Unfortunately, they were too far away from the village to warn the other Strawhats.
Nami figured it out, but it was too late.
Vanguard Nami
Tumblr media
This was the part of the movie when the protagonists suffer a defeat. It had to happen.
Shiki appeared to recapture Nami. He was delusional, saying Nami really wanted to be part of his crew, honest. Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Usopp and Chopper tag-teamed Shiki, but the villain had an iron plot shield. His power was cool, though. You can tell Oda was behind it. The uses of it were very creative. Shiki made the earth float, engulf the Strawhats like a tsunami and them in a twisted spiral of dirt.
Then he forced Nami into a corner. She agreed to join his crew. Usopp tried to stop her, but Shiki still had his iron plot shield. Shiki decided to be nice and let her leave a Tone Dial message for her old crewmates.
Of course, when Robin, Franky and Brook finally found them an dug them out, Luffy listened to 80% of the message and got the wrong idea. How could she say Shiki was stronger than them, that he’d never measure up to a guy like that?
I knew there had to be more to that message. Nami would never say something like that, would she? (Interesting that Sanji was the one who asked to hear the message again.)
Luffy’s anger fuelled his epic rescue mission!
Which was just as well, as Shiki had executed his plan to tear down the protective trees. Murderous animals swarmed the village. The downtrodden people had to flee for their lives. Nami had been caught trying to betray Shiki (I still don’t get why she wanted to blow up the trees with dynamite) and he imprisoned her, leaving her to succumb to the Green Disease.
As Shiki headed towards East Blue, the Strawhats rocketed towards his palace on the Sunny.
Robin Must Have Mentioned the Dress Code
Tumblr media
The big fight scene was great.
The explosions, the smokey silhouettes, the sharp tailoring and the badass walk in were a joy to watch. Even the guns and the Kill Bill style brawl (you think you can take on the Crazy 88?) were fun. I liked how the first words out of Luffy’s mouth were: “Is Nami okay?”
Then, when Shiki lied about her doing just fine, Luffy respected Nami by saying, “Nami didn’t sacrifice herself. She came here to fight as our vanguard. Prepare yourself. We are the main force!”
Luffy acted like the captain. Gave Usopp and Chopper orders to find Nami, while the rest of them cleaned up. Franky fought the scrubs. Brook stealing the limelight when Sanji fought the gorilla for Robin was hilarious (”I WILL SHEAR THE FLESH FROM YOUR BONES!” “I have no flesh.”)
Luffy ran after Shiki and Zoro was elevated to angel status in my eyes for offing that IRRITATING FART CLOWN.
And a word of advice: don’t say anything bad about being born in East Blue to Zoro.
“Don’t Bother Our Captain.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I agree, Chopper. He is cool.
Hasta la Vista, Fart Clown The only good thing about you is that you had some pre-made Green Disease cure about your person that Chopper and Usopp looted from your unconscious body.
They found Nami just as she exacted her Revenge Plan. Billy the Duck lit the dynamite fuses and the Daft Green trees surrounding Shiki’s palace were obliterated. The enraged fighting animals stampeded in and smashed Shiki’s palace. It was wild. Fun to watch.
Enraged, Shiki tracked Nami, Usopp and Chopper. But guess who followed him and was, at that point, literally steaming with rage.
Monty Python’s Grand Finale
Tumblr media
“NAMI, I’M GONNA BEAT THE CRAP OUTTA HIM AND WE’RE GONNA GO HOME!”
When Luffy makes a promise. He delivers.
And this is where the movie budget came into its own. That Gear 3rd animation was glorious.
I liked how the Strawhats took down Shinki. It reminded me of when they teamed up to take down Oars. They have come a long way and are now a well-oiled machine of efficient teamwork.
While Luffy used Billy the Electric Duck to counteract his lack of reach (I mean, Luffy’s reach is great, but Shiki can fly. What can you do?) Nami used an approaching storm to their advantage. Usopp and Chopper menaced the navigation team to turn the islands directly into the path of the storm. Robin helped Usopp and Chopper blow the palace to Kingdom Come. Franky prepared the Sunny for a quick getaway.
Shiki was caught mid-gloat (always the villain’s Achilles’ Heel). Merveille sailed right into the coming storm. Nami, of course, revealed her Clima Tact and called him out. Usopp sent a lightning attack deliberately into the rumbling clouds. Brook called everyone else back to the Sunny, leaving Luffy to clean up.
As Luffy’s lightning-charged, giant foot screamed towards Shiki, I thought: yes. This is exactly the kind of spectacular, over-the-top finale a bigger budget movie needs. GET HIM, LUFFY! (It also had shades of Monty Python’s Flying Circus. You ever seen that giant grey foot in the opening? The theme song was stuck in my head for ages afterwards.)
So it was that the Strawhats saved East Blue and the feathery Sky Angel People! Two birds with one stone. How about that? Let it never be said that the Strawhats cannot multi-task! (The feathery Sky Angel People bit didn’t make much sense. How could you forget you were a race of Sky Angel People? But whatever, I just went with it.)
At first I was confused as to why the Marines were arresting Shiki’s goons. How did they know where to find them? Then I realised Garp and Sengoku had probably been chasing them since the stunt Shiki pulled at Marineford.
And the heart-warming (ship fuelling) scene at the end with Nami’s real message played at the end?
“Promise me you’ll come rescue me.”
Awesome. Good movie. Glad you guys recommended it.

531-533: "The Ryugu Palace! Taken by the Shark that they Saved!", "A Coward and a Crybaby! The Princess in the Hard Shell Tower!" and "It's an Emergency! The Ryugu Palace is Occupied!"
Tumblr media
Pappagu’s gonna stroke out with stress. Yup. Any minute now.
Loved these episodes! The humour that took an exit stage left during Marineford (for obvious reasons) is back. Most of the humor was comedy of errors type stuff. We had Luffy accidentally bouncing on some giant mermaid tiddies. Luffy being unwittingly rude and poor Pappagu nearly having a stress embolism (look at those veins!) There was Zoro getting drunk and waking up in a jail cell. Brook, Usopp, Nami and Zoro accidentally occupying the entire palace and taking a bunch of important hostages... xD
There were some short updates on other characters too. Some have already had an impact on the plot. Caribou has kidnapped some Mermaids with intent to sell them at the Sabaody slave market. Without knowing it, he has exacted perfect revenge on the Strawhats! But how will you leave Fishman Island, Caribou. You don’t have a ship, you absolute roaster.
Others I’m guessing Oda is keeping up his sleeve for later. Robin, Franky, Sanji and Chopper are still at large. Robin is wandering the island in search of important evidence of missing history. Franky, bless his mechanical heart, is off looking for Tom-san’s family. Chopper is done treating Sanji. He has a new point: Kung Fu Point. Nice to see that Chopper has some more offensive abilities that don’t completely strip him of his intelligence. :)
That’s Some Nice Real Estate, Neptune. Would Be A Shame If Someone Occupied It.
Tumblr media
You know what? I like Neptune. His advisors might browbeat him, but at least he’s the type of ruler who will listen to advice, even if he doesn’t take it. He has his own mind and will follow his inner sense of justice, though it might conflict with what his advisors tell him.
Luffy on the Fish Boat back to Ryugu Palace was hilarious, though. Neptune kept doing a Jason Derulo: saying his own damned name all the time in the little songs he sang to himself and Luffy was like, “Mate, your chant is dumb.”  (I mean, Luffy, you’re not wrong but maybe not to the king’s face next time?) Either Neptune is chilled enough to ignore it, or he didn’t hear, Pappagu did, though, and was on hand to give Luffy a five-armed starfish spanking.
Neptune cares about his family too. The princess’ happiness is important and as she can’t get out the house much (more on that later) rescuing Megalo was a Big Deal. “Didn’t mean to save you, but I’m glad you’re okay!”
Too honest, Luffy! xD
Then Neptune told the Strawhats that one of their crewmates was already there. I knew instantly it was Zoro. Only Zoro could be that hopelessly lost that he’d accidentally infiltrate a palace with only one heavily guarded entrance and a buzzer system.
There was also a handy bit of world-building. Neptune handed Luffy a device that looked suspiciously like a pink dildo with multipurpose attachments. It was called Bubbly Coral and enables the user to form their own oxygen bubbles whenever, wherever. Useful.
They zoomed through the entrance flume and emerged into a beautiful place full of light, grand buildings, colour and dragon statues. Dat real estate.
As soon as Neptune stepped through the door, his Minister of the Right advisor (seahorse guy) got laid into him. “WTF, my lord?? You went out again on your own? You know the situation in this country??” Neptune is like Princess Jasmine All he needs is a cute Sea Tiger pet and he’s sorted. Either that, or Neptune is confident enough in his strength to face whatever’s out there.
The Minister of the Left (catfish guy) took one look at the company Neptune had brought back and was like, “Um.... my lord, there’s something you should know about those Strawhat Pirates.” They spilled the current intel: Memaids had been kidnapped, which is something human pirates are known to do, and Madame Sharley had predicted Luffy would destroy Fishman Island. Unconscious Zoro had already been taken into custody. The rest of the Strawhats were under arrest!
(I’m having doubts about this Madame Sharley, by the way. I wonder if she’s working with Hordy Jones, or is being forced to work with him? Zero basis for this prediction. Only that the timing of the prediction is pretty damned convenient...)
Then Everyone Fell Out
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Suddenly, the Strawhats were surrounded by guards. I say the Strawhats. I mean Usopp, Nami and Brook because Luffy had gone AWOL (more on that later). The Mermen made a sensible, tactical decision to burst the Strawhats’ bubbles and force them to fight in the water. But they made the mistake of showing Nami how to operate the Bubbly Coral. She used a giant one to drain the room of water. (Good job, Nami. Quick thinking as usual!) Brook had a badass moment. That’s why I like him. He can go from his goofy, kind, fun-loving self to scary swordsman with a snap of his bony fingers.
Usopp was ready to throw down, which was a nice surprise. I was so hyped to see what his new weapon can do, but was blue-balled. Ah, well. Next time! :D
Oh, and Zoro let himself out of jail. xD
Or Zori, as Neptune kept calling him. Another trait to add to Neptune being a stand up guy was that he volunteered to fight Zori because he didn’t want anyone else getting hurt. A good king!
The next thing, Zoro had plowed through everyone and Usopp was freaking out about overkill! “FFS, Zoro! We were just going to intimidate them and run!”
Zoro thought, “Yes. Run. Let’s bail.”
Usopp said, “A great plan, but we don’t know where Sunny is. Plus, the coating came off when we crashed through the bubble.”
Nami also added that the Log Pose had been unstable ever since they arrived (what does that mean?)
Then a nearby DDM rang.
Accidental Criminals
Tumblr media
This whole scene was hilarious. Honestly, I came into this arc expecting lots of heavy stuff about Fishman vs humans racism and I’m getting accidental criminal activity and comedy hostage-takings. It’s awesome.
Zoro picked up the DDM and Usopp freaked out. “Don’t pick it you, you dumbass!” It was Fukaboshi, the eldest Merprince. He asked Zoro to open the gate.
“Yeah, no can do. But I’ll tell you what you can do...”
For Zoro had spied an Opportunity. (For all everyone calls Zoro a dumbass, he can be really clever sometimes).
“We have your father and the palace hostage. We need a new coating for the Sunny. And we need the rest of our crew: a gloomy woman, a robot, a raccoon, and a dirty water imp.”
“HAHAHAH, a dirty water imp. Classic!” Brook chortled.
“Oh, and a million Berry in cash, please, Zoro,” Nami added.
The Strawhats really have taken a level in grey morality, it’s hilarious. Their reactions to Zoro’s Big Idea were even more than I’d have expected from them two years ago (except Nami. She’s always had half an eye on treasure).  And they are clearly confident they can escape from Fishman Island in one piece.
Fukaboshi agreed because he had no choice. It seems he’s a stand up kinda guy too, because he delivered a message from Jimbei to Luffy (this caused a stir in the palace. Jimbei is even more godly down there than on the surface).
The message was: “Do not fight against Hordy. I will meet you at the Sea Forest.”
Do not fight against Hordy? Really? There’s history between them, right? Jimbei and Hordy, I mean. They were both Sun Pirates. Or is that Arlong and Jimbei? Yeah, I think it’s Arlong and Jimbei. But maybe Hordy was also on that crew?
Something is up here...
But I never found out what because some Big Booms happened off-panel in the direction of the Princess’ room.
Which happened to be where Luffy was, of course.
Princess Peach
Tumblr media
So Luffy, who only came to the palace for food, got fed up within 0.5 seconds of arriving and wandered off. He came across a pair of massive, solid-looking doors. A pair of axes were embedded in them. Must admit my first thought was, “Oh cool, the princess is an angry, fighting type!”
Nope. Completely wrong.
Luffy sneaked inside because he could smell food. One thing led to another and he ended up bouncing on the giant Mermaid Princess’ giant tiddies. (If Sanji ever finds out, he will never speak to Luffy again.)
Of course, she woke up and was like, “Why is there a tiny human bouncing on my tiddies? I did not consent to this.” And she shrieked and cried, as you would if some hungry, little random was bouncing on you. I love how Luffy could not deal with her giant tears. It’s one of his rare weaknesses. Like, what, why are you crying, stop, plz, I did nothing to you.
Turns out the Princess is not a fighting type. She is actually a terrified, sweet girl who has been locked in a Hard Shell Tower for ten years because Captain Bloody Vander Decken is an annoying fucking sex-pest who will not take no for an answer!
The action briefly cut to him ranting away about how he was convinced Neptune wanted to force her into a political marriage because she was really in love with Decken. That he could not allow her to be with anyone else and he would rather see her dead than with anyone else. “Your life is either death or marriage. I will present her this lovely boomerang axe with a rose on it.” You know, because if you’re going to be decapitated, I guess it’s nice to know it’s done with love and good intentions, right? Absolutely insane. This guy is Major Incel Material.
Of course, Decken’s latest “gift” whirled into the room and Luffy stopped it. He was like, “WTF, where did this come from?”
The Guards burst in and the Princess saved Luffy’s ass by hiding him. Of course, Luffy overheard what had happened to the others. He wasn’t bothered. “Meh, that’s fine. Your lot won’t be able to control them, anyway.” Just goes to show how much faith Luffy has in his crew’s strength after those two years.
To repay Luffy, the Princess said he could eat her giant food. While he ate, she asked him questions. The most interesting was this one:
“You’re a pirate,” she said. “Does that mean you’re a bad person?”
Luffy thought about this, then answered, “Hmm... I dunno. You decide.”
(Just another incident to add to my growing: Luffy’s Grey Morality Evidence Pile.)
The Princess told Luffy Decken has a DF power called Mark Mark. It sounds pretty useful, actually, (which is bad for her). If he designates someone as his mark, he can throw a weapon and hit them every time, unless an obstacle is in the way. That’s why she’d been locked in the Tower for ten years.
Luffy was confused, as you would be if someone told you that. “He wants to marry you but wants to kill you? WTF?” and said, “Ten years? You must be bored. I’d get sick if someone locked me up for ten years.”
Then he yelled at her because she poked his cheeks while he was eating (tbh, that would make me mad too. Just because he’s little does not mean Luffy is a pet!) But she’s just a lonely girl with minimal social skills because she’s been locked up for so long and she could not handle Luffy yelling at her.
Luffy being Luffy, was honest to the point of being Super Harsh. “You might be big, but you’re a coward and a crybaby. I don’t like you! You’ve stayed hear for ten years, eh? That could make you sick. Isn’t there anywhere you wanna go? Come on, let’s go for a walk!”
Luffy gave her the Unblinking Luffy Stare.
There is no returning from that.
Once he puts an idea in someone’s head and gives them That Look, they are done for.
The whole meeting the Princess scenes reminded me of the Big Baby from Spirited Away. The one who wouldn’t go outside because Yubaba had told him all about germs and he was afraid but was still fascinated by Chihiro because he was lonely and wanted her to play. Except this situation is more complicated because Neptune is a Good Dad and only wants to protect his daughter from a pest who he is trying to arrest but cannot find. It’s for her safety. Just as well Luffy is there with a cunning plan to get her out for a walk, eh?
Tumblr media
Nah, Luffy. Absolutely no one will realise there’s something up here... xD
Sex-Pest Shakes Hands With Roid Peddler
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the shady villains have teamed up! I don’t think that’s happened in One Piece yet. It’s an alliance of convenience based on a common enemy. They both hate Neptune for different reasons. Hordy’s is political. Decken’s? Because he’s a sex-pest.
Prediction? I bet Hordy will betray Decken. Evidence? None. Just wishful thinking. I want to see Decken get his pathetic ass kicked.
Tumblr media
“And I would like to add a side order of salt and chili fries to our ransom demands.”
