#or balls of yarn to wind

Dude if there were people out there who like painting/playing Warhammer but don't like assembling the little dudes I'd jump at being the one to put them together. I almost wouldn't even want to be paid, I just like putting things together with my hands.
I wish this was a thing.
#lore says words#warhammer 40k#they are so fun to put together#plus my hands get restless#i have no friends to shell nuts for now#or balls of yarn to wind#what am I to do?

something about the knowledge that a ball of yarn is wound by hand is so tender to me.....
#talking#my bf winds my yarn into balls sometimes and it takes a long time#and sometimes my cat maisie will bat them around the room#and they'll unwind of course#and he lets her because he loves her

I've got two Ganseys' worth of shiny new yarn from my Whitby trip the other day, and am quite excited about starting the first of them.
Admittedly, I need to finish my current project first (less than half a sleeve and a hell of a lot of ends to weave in because intarsia), and then I get the joys of winding yarn (because the first one will be using the Corriedale - which is in a skein - rather than the pre-coned stuff, on account of my sister preferring softer wool), but I enjoy playing around with pattern planning so I'm looking forward to working out exactly what design to aim for.
#knitting#gansey#i have never tried winding yarn onto cones before but i feel like 500g is rather a lot for a ball#so we'll just have to see how it goes#i have ordered a yarn swift to aid in my endeavours

One thing about doing both fiber arts & sailing is that now whenever I get my yarn tangled up my first thought is "damn, I fouled my lines"

I finished this cardigan about two months ago and I'm seriously considering frogging it and starting over because it's just not working.
I'm only 5'1, so it comes down past my knees so I'm thinking of taking out the bottom four squares on the back. The JAYGO doesn't feel all that sturdy, especially in the corners, so I'd just sew them together.
(If you look closely, you can see a big gaping hole in the middle of the back from where the corners of the squares aren't actually connected but that's how the pattern had me do it.)
I may or may not keep the hood. Right now it's just heavy and tends to drag the sweater out of shape. If I nix the hood, I'll probably do a ribbing up the front and around the collar so it looks a little more finished.
I've never completely frogged a project before so this'll be a new experience for me. I just have to convince myself that doing it over doesn't mean that all the time I spent on it already is wasted. I mean, it's not like I wear the damn thing as is. Ripping it out and starting over can only help.
#crochet#i already have a blanket that I'm working on#but i think having more than one project on the go would be nice#because sometimes i just don't want to work on the blanket but i still want to make something#maybe I'll start the frogging process this weekend#honestly one of the biggest things holding me back is the fact that I'm gonna have to wind all the yarn into a ball by hand#it's such a pain

I finally caved and bought a yarn winder and my life will never be the same
#its sooo much faster than winding it into a ball and its way less stress on my hands#plus all my yarn takes up less space now and doesn't tangle together as bad#i dont want to sleep i want to continue to optimize my yarn storage :(

Knitters of tumblr i need some suggestions! While cleaning my livingroom and reorganising my craft supplies i found an unwound skein of what i remember buying as hand dyed acrylic yarn in a fingering weight. The colours are a variegation of rich red and pink and also some teal and coppery and dark red or brown (almost black) hues with the red and pink dominating. I estimate it to be around 1000 m in length and have no idea what to make with it. heck i don't even remember why i bought it in the first place because i can't really wear acrylic or polyacrylic yarn on my skin. What am I supposed to make with it? Any ideas?
#mutantenfisch knits#or tries to lol#knitblr#suggestions appreciated!#i also need to untangle this mess and wind it into a proper ball of yarn#best before baldito decides it's an ideal toy#well at least he doesn't do the Pölle move and chew through it in several places because mhmmmmmmm yummy yarn

ok i should probably buy a ball winder as a disability accommodation
do you have one you like that lasts a long time, im willing to spend some money on it
#i own a swift and not a ball winder because when i was originally buying Grownup Yarn Accessories i was a sophomore in college#and i only had the budget for one. and 'swift w/o ballwinder' is actually still a useful object#however. i have income now. and winding balls of yarn is even harder on my wrists than actually knitting#box opener#knitting#it's taken me a very long time to notice this#but in my defense it's only partly bc i forgot that you can use money to solve problems#and partly because since my original injuries i have had to knit so slowly#that i almost never actually. need. to wind more yarn

Aw fuck i might have miscalculated
#it’s 11:54 pm. i’m knitting my blanket and decided to do one more row before i went to bed. the problem is i’m now realizing that this ball#of yarn may run out before i finish the row.#if i run out i’ll have to get out a new hank and wind the entire thing. and then attach it and finish the row. rip me

hmmm. gotta get these socks off my sock needles and cast on some silk for long socks maybe. need to use it up
#ive had the silk sitting around for a little while. havent had the energy or the right needles for it. gotta wind it into balls first though#which will take a while 😅 yay me#not a big fan of how the sock yarn im knitting up currently is pooling if im being honest but id like to get them over with#even if i dont really like the colors the yarn is very buttery soft which makes it slightly worth it i reckon

at that point of the skein where i have to start rolling it into a ball to keep it from tangling and i'll be honest with you: i hate it
