Reread/skimmed my oldest Pharma apologism posts (mainly the ones about Pharma not being a functionist) and it just occurred to me that possibly another reason the fandom saddled Pharma with the "functionist bigot" label is because his introduction by First Aid says that everyone hates Decepticons, but Pharma really really hates Decepticons. Mix that with the portion of the fanbase that lionizes and whitewashes the Decepticons, and I can easily see it entering common fanon that "Pharma hates Decepticons -> the Decepticons are freedom fighters wrongly maligned by the Autobots/the franchise -> Pharma must be a bigoted functionist since he hates Decepticons who represent freedom."
The simpler explanation is just that Pharma is an antagonist and therefore gets the "everything about him must be evil and wrong" black-and-white analysis so common in fandoms in general, but given some of the bizarre Decepticon takes I've seen I can also easily see Pharma's Decepticon hatred being taken as a sign of him being bigoted and evil.
Though AGAIN in this case it would still be singling Pharma out as a bigot for crimes/flaws that multiple other Autobots are guilty of like.
Oh, Pharma hates Decepticons? Well a lot of other Autobots hate Decepticons too, First Aid's narration about Pharma even says "we all hate Decepticons"; for that matter, there are a lot of Decepticons who hate Autobots. It's a massive civil war that's lasted for a lifetime causing two groups of people to be stuck in a near-permanent blood feud, you can't assume that every Autobot who hates Decepticons (and vice versa) hates them because they're a bigot. Maybe there's been a war where both sides have been building an ever-increasing mountain of reasons to hate each other, so hating the opposite faction is a social problem caused by war and politics rather than a sign of individual moral failing.
Pharma worked at the New Institute so that means he must be evil/bigoted? Chromedome and Brainstorm also worked at the New Institute, but there's no widespread fandom shunning of them or headcanoning them as bigots.
Hell, even the very premise of assuming Pharma is a functionist bigot for hating Decepticons is ignoring the very premise of Pharma's motives, which are, uh... being blackmailed by the leader of the Decepticon Justice Division, who represents the ultimate form of Decepticon ideals to the point of literally wearing their symbol as his mask? So how were we jumping straight to "oh Pharma hates Decepticons bc he's a posh bigoted functionist" when there was a far more immediate interpretation/headcanon of "Pharma hates Decepticons because he's being tortured and blackmailed by one."
That's not to say that Pharma couldn't have hated Decepticons before Delphi, and I think you could make interesting headcanons/extrapolations based on either idea. But still. It kinda feels like people saw Pharma and just wanted to make him the Token Evil Autobot who's the opposite of our Good Heroic Autobots regardless of whether evidence from canon supported it or not.
Good riddance to bigoted functionist Pharma fanon, I'm so glad that the majority of Pharma fanon these days actually gives him a chance and puts him on equal footing as other Autobots.

Marauders stans: yep, this is definitely a racist, bigoted, homophobic, racist, obsessive stalker who definitely deserves to be bullied to the point of getting PTSD! Another win for the marauders fandom!!!
idk i dont think we give hickey enough credit for jumping on the bomb that was about to be the whole manson / irving conflict to de-escalate it.
like manson had just shoved (?) irving (MAJOR no-no, since irving outranks him. also you cant hit your coworkers)and irving was threatening to lock manson in a room alone in the dark with dead men over an unspecified amt of time, because manson expressed being afraid (dangerous to admit!!).
obvs irving is projecting his own anger at himself onto manson here, but it’s especially not ok to do that to manson of all people, who reads to me as someone who’s mildly intellectually disabled. you dont do that to your coworker, or your subordinate, and you certainly dont do that to someone who may not be capable of defending themselves in the same way you can attack them/defend yourself. it’s a complete abuse of power, and it’s fucking sick. irving i dont care if you hate yourself and youre stressed!!! dont be a dick!!!!
like yeah, it’s to hickey’s benefit to reassure manson (hes already read crozier’s little note, and i think hickey’s probably disturbed by francis’ previous plans to leave, shaken that francis believes they need rescue, plus being flogged is not reassuring about crozier’s mental state or sense of control over the crew, and while i dont think hickey is really consciously planning mutiny yet, it’s definitely something his subconscious is chewing on) but there’s definitely a sense of hickey saying, ‘oh fuck this shit i am stepping up and interfering with this’. which is something he’s demonstrated before, and was flogged for it. like, christ. give the man some credit for calming manson down, and giving him actual tools (lantern, safety in distance, ‘guarding’ the others) to cope with his fear.
also. sidenote. it’s been made very clear earlier that hickey is not supposed to be carrying heavy things. goodsir says this. hickey flinches when he sets that toolbox down. and then he goes and volunteers himself to help hold a dead body so that manson wouldnt be punished for being afraid. you know how much pain that probably caused him????? like literal, physical pain??? christ
do you ever think about how there is an insane amount of antisemitism in doctor who but no one ever talks about it. do you ever think about how goyim on this website make a habit of sexualizing and fetishizing these insanely antisemitic scenes. because i do. i think about it a lot but i feel like i can't talk about it because it makes the gentiles uncomfortable lol
Danse has to get homesick In Sanctuary. Like despite being uncertain of how much his past is real including times with the Brotherhood, those memories were home. The Brotherhood was home especially the Prydwen.
No matter all the comfort and the luxuries SoSu could put to make him feel more relaxed or like it’s his space it’s still not home. It’s so unique to him cause everyone else has a home in a sense. A thing or place they can come and go to as they please while Danse doesn’t. He can never go back to the people he considered family and they can never go to him without serious consequences. It doesn’t help that (due to his own faults and beliefs) a good majority of the new people in his life do not exactly like him.
It’s so isolating for him as the wasteland is also a different culture in general. Theres so much he’s not used to vs what he is. But all in all I think that’s a good thing. I feel as if Danse had a better arc in game it would 100% have him learning or developing a sense of home before a sense of self. I think it gets overlooked that Danse is a person that likes or feels like he needs to belong to something. A cause, a philosophy, a mission. He needs a goal. He must learn to live for himself and his purpose but it’s clear he wants to find that through something which is why he latches onto the Sole Survivor after rather than just wander the wastes. He needs something, anything to base a sense of self on at this point in time and who better than the person that opened their home to him in the first place.
He’s a dude that needs a foundation or home to ground himself on or else he doesn’t know what to do with himself or even start.
Your post about South Park really does hit the nail right on the head for why the hell this show has a fandom that I've never seen anyone acknowledge, at least not on this fucking webbed site. Instead mosts stance is along the lines of "why are you shipping the racist children" which ignores. That they have INCREDIBLY strong characterization, to the point that even side characters personalities are able to be pinpointed with a lot of accuracy, enough for there to be subsets of fans for those guys even. The show is primarily about putting those fucking circle guys in situations and people who like to see them in situations are like. Man. I could totally come up with some situation for these guys to be in. And they don't even have to be weird and centrist about it like the creators. (Not to say plenty of fans don't still land there. If Cartman is included you really have to decide whether you declaw him and either answer gets dicey unless you get him. And some people really don't and it gets. Bad.) It feels a lot more generous seeing someone actually clock the appeal of the show for what it is rather than stopping at Matt and Treys wild ride of very very mixed messages and leaving it at that so thanks
no like literally i only started watching the show as a background noise type of deal after i finished family guy (in my "watching every adult cartoon" type of beat) and then just got. enthralled.
like i genuinely would not recommend the show to anyone who doesn't have the stomach for gross out humor, frustrating political takes, and even satire that often actually is progressive and even straight up anti-discrimination at times but can be packaged distastefully -- especially since i feel like the show can only be truly enjoyed if you watch the entire 26+ seasons and movies and play the games.
but like matt and trey are unfortunately VERY good writers so i totally understand why the show has a legit, functioning fandom with popular headcanons (shoutout to marjorine) and AUs. like oftentimes the fans are also just Putting The Circle Children Into Situations. or they're playing around with the Situations the Circle Children were already put into in the show, like expanding on tweek and craig's canonical relationship via fanart or exploring kenny's canonical trauma of being repeatedly killed and reincarnated as himself.
but yeah happy to provide my input on this when asked! glad you liked my take
not gonna lie for me it's the "i knew chimney before he was chimney" when he wasn't invited to either the bachelor party or the wedding by the groom lmao i don't even care if that makes me petty 😂
What would be really funny is if Chimney is still secretly holding a grudge against Tommy for coming up with Chimney in the first place.
I am dying to know who came up with that.
And I find it hysterical that Tommy wasn't invited to either the party or the wedding but everyone are screaming about his "connection" to this 118 and how that's different from other gfs that came before him 😂😂😂
"All of the mercs would be homophobic and racist" NO THEY WOULDN'T!! You mean to tell me that nine mentally ill hired killers, all of which coming from a game that's hellbent on taking old and tired tropes and cliches and subverting them in new and funny ways, would just be generic bigoted people because of the time period??? My guy WHAT!?
something I think is actually hilarious is that if you go left enough you start having more stances in common with (individual) conservatives, and if you go right enough you start agreeing with (individual) leftists. like i have a pretty close friend who's self described as "just far enough right that I hate politicians" , whom I hard disagree with his overarching political stances. but the finer details of it... yeah we agree with each other. gun control/gun rights opinions taxation opinions pro-small government opinions slight separatist opinions anti two party opinions anti-corporation opinion ect ect ect.
we stand on opposite sides of a standard political compass but I genuinely think if I were to count stats, I'd agree with as many of his stances as I would a liberals/democrats stances. my hs gov teacher described the difference in right vs left to us as "everyone's goal here is the betterment of mankind, they just think the best ways to do it are different" and that's literally the best way, to me, to describe what the difference in right vs left is regarding anarchism specifically. we got ESSENTIALLY the same opinion but the ways we think are the best ways to go about enacting said opinion are what makes us different. and something abt that is really painfully funny to me. envisioning a world where an-something is the major world thing, not capitalism.... and there's STILL right vs left... but The Anarchist Versions. christ.
sorry for the book i wrote in the tags. ignore typos I am NOT retyping any of that to fix them xoxo
my asshole neighbor that’s friends with my dad who literally looks like wet cardboard was just at my little sister’s place of work and called her “as rigid as her mother” (slightly paraphrasing) because she wouldn’t let him slap her ass with a plastic shovel. I guess I’m not making it entirely through Hanukkah without a felony charge.
