Are you trying to give your OCs something to wear but feel that all you do has no style? Have you scoured the internet for clothing design tutorials and still cant come up with anything you like? Many years ago, I had this problem. I now know that while I knew the basics of clothing design, I did not know how to IMPLEMENT them because I had zero fashion vocabulary! I finally solved this by creating........
My clothing design inspiration board! It has a bunch of different types of clothes, accessories, patterns, and the like!
As a bonus, below the read more are some clothing/costume design advice primarily for character design purposes!
These are (sorta) recreations of notes—made for the general ideas section—which are currently impossible to find (though the advice below has more thoughts.) never mind guys i found them so now this post is gonna be a bit disjointed cause im just gonna slap in any unique advice from there. on top of the fact this has been sitting in my drafts for 3 thousand years. so, if this is hard to understand tell me and i will make a new version with a more unified and serious writing style.
first two-and-a-half advice were written yesterday who knows how long ago on pinterest, thats why they sound so informal. actually the whole post is so informal wow
Varied wardrobe:
[Title: Varied wardrobe]. If you have the time, give your characters different outfits! That can tell us so much more! (Not part of OG notes, but giving OCs different outfits for different situations can reveal stuff about different sides or layers of their personalities/headspaces! You can also just give them a wardrobe of different clothes. Either way, you can have different outfits have similar silhouettes and/or shapes, or have them be completely different, which could be used for a purpose like what I talked about above.)
Layers:
[Title: Layers]. Layers........... layeersssss....... yes.......... uhhh, yea I love layers (this is def not what i sounded like in the OG note) So layers! They make your outfits more interesting! They're really cool and, in my opinion, they make outfits feel more real. Also they give you an excuse to go crazy go stupid with clothing designs hahahahahaha brb im gonna go put 5 shirts on my OC plus 50 scarves and 2 hats (DEF not what I said in the OG notes its been a while and i have a lot more thoughts about this now)
ok and some thoughts from the original notes: Layering can tell us a lot about your character. You can even merge different clothing items! Think about it: short sleeves on long sleeves can make for a unique touch on an otherwise boring shirt. Go ham on the combinations!
Research (this one's important):
[Title: Research (this one's important)]. Research is cool! Look at all those buttons [, click: here: for link], no wonder there was a button shortage. Also obviously you have to research stuff before writing about another culture otherwise its gonna be some inaccurate crap. a well researched portrayal will be way more interesting and research (at least for me) can be rewarding in general. But you can also do research on time periods, jobs, and more! Research can be intimidating, but sometimes, you just gotta do it. And as I said about well-researched portrayals being more interesting, researching can give you ideas you would've never thought about [, click: here: for link to source]. Told ya research makes stuff more interesting. (really realizing these are more than just recaps, wow. im even citing crap.) So yeah, research is important for many aspects of storytelling, including costuming, and even if it's scary, your future self will thank you.
Imagery:
[Title: Imagery]. This is where you unleash your inner English teacher. You slap some object's shape, pattern, image, etc. somewhere to represent something. It could represent some deep-seated secret of the character, but it doesn't even have to be deep. It may just be a simple reference to a personality trait. Where you put the symbolism can also mean different things, like for example, hearts on a character are usually positive symbolism, but a heart on the sole of a shoe can, if you so desire, mean the character crushes others dreams.
Clothing variations:
[Title: Clothing variations]. Just look at this [, click: here: for link to an image of variations of vests]. Details. You can change them. All the details. Play around with them. Go even further, change the details no one notices. Have you ever seen a denim shirt? No? Make it happen. Make all those weird things happen. Yeah, that's it really.
Details:
[Title: Details]. (literally just copy-pasting the original note apart from maybe one awkward word replaced) Simple details like buttons, hemlines, lace or pleats can make your outfit feel all the more real. The possibilities are endless for such small add-ons.
Don't limit yourself to one type of anything, it's why I made this board! (Other than my own lack of ideas.) For example, learning to draw pockets is cool and all, but are you sure that's all you can do? I have a whole section for them!
So yeah that's it. I am tired and this post is very disjointed.

In Gaza, journalists are passing out from exhaustion and famine. Despite the ICJ ruling, the US and Australia are intentionally defunding UNWRA based on baseless claims by Israel that members of the aid group are Hamas-sympathizers. Netanyahu, of course, has ignored the ICJ ruling. Israel has banned insulin pens from arriving in Gaza, a particularly cruel and inhumane crime to add to their laundry list of offences. Nothing has changed, and things are getting worse.
It is not that hard to not buy things. To not watch things. Perhaps it is inconvenient, and makes you go out of your way, and costs a little more to buy alternatives. But if you were to attend a funeral a day for every child that has died in Gaza so far, it would take you over 27 years. When the worst that will happen to you is that you don't watch a TV show featuring a zionist, you don't buy a specific brand that donates to and supports zionism, how could that possibly compare to the plight of Palestinians who must amputate limbs without anesthesia?
Once again, this is the BDS list of brands to boycott.

Here is a comprehensive post about more actions you can take in support of Palestine.
Here is a list of verifiable orgs that provide aid on the ground.
credible organisations that are doing work on the ground in Palestine:
Care for Gaza:non-profit charity that distributes money, food and other resources directly to families in Gaza. They maintain a regular presence on Twitter and Instagram. You can donate to them via Paypal here.
PCRF / Palestine Children's Relief Fund: non-profit organisation that distributes essential food and resources to families in Gaza. Most recently, they delivered 30 tons of vital medicine, and 82,000 pounds of flour.
Medical Aid For Palestinians: deploys medical teams to treat Palestinians suffering under Israel's malicious bombardments.
Donate e-sims to Palestine: massive post with tutorials and relevant links, with discount codes included in the post and in the replies.
Direct Aid: humanitarian fund distributing supplies such as blankets and winter jackets directly to Palestinian families.
help people leave palestine (donate what you can)
Help a Family Evacuate Gaza (GoGetFunding)
Save Sanaa and her Family (Gofundme)
Save Amjad Saher and his family (Gofundme)
Help a family of 13 escape Gaza (Gofundme)
Help a Palestinian children's book illustrator save her family of 12 (Gofundme)
Today, tomorrow and until Israel faces justice for their crimes, learn how to prioritise Palestine over your own comfort.
#the defunding of the unwra as israel further escalates their unimaginable cruelty produces an indescribable rage#these western leaders deserve to be fucking stoned#nothing comes in the way of western hegemony and their commitment to upholding unforgivable cruelty for profit#palestine#free palestine#free gaza#free west bank#fuck israel

It’s really cool how Arknights always tries to make everything diagetic—your phone is a terminal to PRTS, tutorials are lessons to the trainee ops, the story archive is Rhodes Island’s internal records, skins come from a fashion catalogue, etc.
But I always find it really funny that they made their gacha ascension mechanic a promotion. And it doesn’t fit for what feels like 70% of operators, they’re like “you literally don’t have the jurisdiction to do that, I’m on loan from another org, but okay” to “I mean I’m literally your enemy but hey if you like it I love it.”
It’s super funny how it creates this image of like. The Doctor, one of the highest authorities in Rhodes Island, walking up to obvious Dublinn spy Harmonie and being like “thank you for your service to rhodes. this is highest honor we can bestow.” and just. Pinning a badge to her shirt while she stares at them in abject confusion.
I mean, objectively it’s something they would do. I just think it’s really funny.
#this was prompted by me promoting platinum and her being lik#‘uhhh im literally the platinum? is that not enough for you?’#way too funny#arknights

STOP KOSA "KIDS ONLINE SAFETY ACT", THE MASSIVE ONLINE CENSORSHIP BILL
"there will be no room to call for a free palestine, congo, sudan, or yemen when imperialists control what stays on the internet. there will be no room for sharing queer joy, safe binding and tucking guides, or tutorials on how to safely navigate kink when queerphobes and puritans decide what kinda of relationships and identities are "acceptable". there will be no room for anticapitalism, protest organizing, pirating, or sharing anti-establishment resources when the establishment can erase whatever ideas are too threatening to them to stay. there will be no room for those who do not or can not conform.
the government will now have access to protest organizer's information (and your information), including their full name and home address.
the bill will largely target: TRANS AND QUEER CONTENT LGBTQ+ adults and minors seeking help and community, people looking for abortions, people organizing protests, anyone using their free speech to voice concerns about injustices, fan artists people reading fan fiction people sharing and enjoying their k1nks and smut (in art or writing), wanting to post things with safety and privacy
By the time you read this, the Senate might have already passed the bill into the House (feb 26th), but we still have time. MAKE NOISE.
all the letters and petitions ive been able to find, plus 2 articles. please sign, call your reps, email them, fax them.

a long time mutual of mine reblogged this post and its sad bcs like. hey dont fall for this shit! "because trans identity is never awarded under the patriarchy" is just. a blatantly incorrect statement. it is very clearly rewarded and you can see that based on the differences between accessibility of resources between transfems and transmascs! like. for fucks sake here's an example from my own life. this, on its own, doesn't proove anything, it is anecdotal evidence at best, but consider the fact that this is a pretty frequent experiance for a lot of transfems.
i go to an artschool highschool thing. it is considered a pretty inclusive space. there is a lot of transmasc students and some are refrered to with proper pronouns. you can get some degree of accomodation if you ask around! so i tried to get some.
my request was first met with a combination confusion and derrision from the teaching staff and secondly by immidiately telling my parents, something i SPECIFFICALY ASKED THEY DO NOT DO. my request was considered inherently ridiculous, something as i later learned was "gossiped about" among the teachers. at the same time there were several transmasc students recievimg proper accomodations. This is not to say theyve not experianced transphobia in the enviorement, OBVIOUSLY THEY FUCKING DID, but like. consider the difference in treatment in that they ultimately got said accomodation. i got screamed at by my parents.
this is a small example of course but as i said it closely mirrors the experiances of a lot of transfems in various queer spaces. tutorials for binding being omnipresent, tutorials for tucking being nonexistent. the lgbt org nearest to me organised a transmasc support group. it pointedly did not organise a transfem one.
and like. what other explanation is there for this other than transmascs benefitting from some degree of male privilage.
in my personal experiance this male privilage was far more localised to queer spaces but i know of a lot of transfems who experianced it extended to a lot of non speciffically queer spaces. but it is a clear cut case of patriarchy rewarding a trans identity. is their male privilage harder to access because of their transness ? absolutely. they are trans and they experiance transphobia. but it is still Clearly fucking there and any real material analysis of the conditions in which transmascs live and the conditions in which transfems live absolutely reveals it.

Should I learn emacs I've been coding in nano
@perl-official
I always recommend emacs. But depending on your use case you might want to learn something else first.
If you hop between different servers a lot and can't expect to have access to your favourite editor on there, I recommend learning the basics of vi/vim since that is preinstalled pretty much everywhere. Also, most bigger IDEs you might use in the future have a setting or extension to use vim-keybinds.
If you just want to program on your own machine, I recommend trying out a few different text-editors and then decide on one.
To learn emacs, I recommend using the built in tutorial. You can access it using C-h t (thats CTRL-h followed by t) while beeing in emacs.
To learn vim, you can use the vimtutor. I think it is automatically installed with vim on most distros, but may have to be installed separately on some. Also neovim/nvim is way better in term of extensibillity to regular vim
Other Editors you could try:
- VS Codium (Visual Studio Code fork that removed most Microsoft Stuff)
- helix - a Vim like Editor
- zed - way too fucused on AI features for my taste but I heard it has some other nice features
If you want some more infos on why emacs is great: here two semi serious posts I made in the past:
Pingin some people who also might have something to say:
@vim-official @helix-editor @emacs-evil-mode

https://archive.org/details/AO3_final_location
there's a few caveats to this method
you have to have lots of space to burn like 15 gb
thanks to the sheer size of it searching for anything takes a while
if the fic your looking for got deleted really quickly or uploaded and deleted recently its prolly not there
sqlite browser stops responding if you use ctrl+f at least for me
heres the tutorial I used
https://wangxianficfinder.tumblr.com/post/711346817091141632/how-to-recover-fic-deleted-from-ao3-thats-not-on
also dont download the zip files I tried that method first and it was pretty buggy
view content then add “&file=”
copy paste the first column
happy fic hunting

Of course the Moon's natural enemy is meteors The beef is real
I’m glad I left the Saïx bit in the beginning of the meteor post that’s gotten a lot more notes than I expected because Zexion & Saïx is my favorite “org xiii members who we never actually saw interact but something had to have been there” relationship (the “something” is incredible hatred) and I want everyone to know about it. 358/2 Days tutorial interactions didn’t get voiced hd cutscenes which means I get to imagine Zexion’s line “If you've finished preparing, you need to report to Saïx, not me,” is laced with a special sort of loathing that Roxas (10 days old) cannot even begin to comprehend yet
#kingdom hearts#organization xiii#saix#zexion#ask#358/2 days#roxas: is zexion mad at me for talking to the wrong person :(#zexion: we could have lived in a world where we didn’t have to report to saix whenever we leave but noooooooo#i keep forgetting to add the not-ship tag#illusionary lunacy

Like any good Marxist-Leninist, I read a lot.
I mean: a lot.
Of my hobbies, I love perusing used bookstores to sniff out Progress Publishers texts. The pamphlets in particular were a goldmine. I managed to create PDFs of them including "The Problem of the Ideal," & "Lenin - Great and Human." Lunacharsky and Barabash have Internet Archives and Marxist dot org sources, so I'll hyperlink those if anyone wants to read the latter two.
I've also got Christoper Caudwell's "Illusions and Reality," along with "Studies and Studies in a Dying Culture," but the latter is an old book, the glue crackling. The first I've got two copies: two hardcovers from different decades. I was over the moon upon finding those. I'm very interested in aesthetics, literature and a Marxist literary critique.
Here's a taste of Caudwell from Redsails dot org.
PS: does anyone know what PDF upload sites can be used aside from Internet Archive? I tried IA and it didn't work for me. I'd love to share what I've scanned. I know LibGen would work, I just have to see tutorials for that but I'm open to other platforms.

“The wood from the trees…” - a Dark Souls 2 Journal - Chapter 2
So after dying to the pack of rabid rat-dog things, I respawn and bravely decide to run past them. One day though, I will have my vengeance. I find the old ladies and pick the knight class, cause “if you’re gonna be dumb, then you gotta be tough”!
I notice as I was approaching the house that there was a little side path. I ran up it, saw the giant orge, and ran back, but I’ve already learnt two lessons in as few a minutes; you can always run away, and there’s stuff hidden about to find.
I might have been a little chicken after that start though, because instead of doing the tutorial level, I ran right past it to Mejula (I thought it was like a hub area, and I was scared to go through the gates!). My first taste of combat then wasn’t against some nice squishy undead dudes, but those stupid little pigs, which were a pain to hit. Still, gottem and moved on.
Fresh from my early lesson, I explored Mejula pretty thoroughly, looking for secrets and such. I was surprised to find so much this early on. I also discovered fall damage by jumping down the well, which should not have been a surprise. I noted that there were multiple places I wouldn’t be able to access now, but I suspected would become open to me in time. That was lesson number 3.
Eventually I decided to brave the Forest of Fallen Giants, and finally face some normal-ish enemies, and it all clicks into place. I feel it, what combat can feel like, the flow of it- manoeuvre, roll out of the way of an attack, strike, move away to build up your stamina, mind the other enemy, brace to parry- it’s really something!
It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, I can’t parry worth a damn, and the lock on slows your movement and makes managing groups difficult, but the Parma shield I found is helpful in dealing with groups and archers. At the moment, I am going for a sword and shield approach with medium armour, like a classic knight.
I also note that enemies will see and approach you from quite far away. That’s lesson number 4. But I use this to lure the enemies around the corner, taking away the advantage of their archer. It’s a very powerful feeling when I make a plan, execute on it, and see it work.
It reminds me of playing games like Ratchet and Clank or Halo CE back 15-20 years ago. I was always looking for ways then to outsmart the AI, hitting them at longer ranges than they could fire back, luring single enemies away to weaken the group…in some ways it’s almost like muscle memory.
But I’m finding that the games designers are actively working to outsmart the player. A blue shiny thing baits me into a room with a blind corner, from which an enemy springs as I pass. Enemies play dead on the floor then attack when I pass. Archers are placed in hard to access locations, harassing you as you deal with their fellows. Combat is almost a puzzle, with a plethora of factors to consider.
I work my way into the castle and find my first bonfire (having missed the earlier one in the tree section, which I later found). It’s a chance to breathe. It feels earned.
Losing your souls upon death, as a mechanic, is fascinating. It lends real weight to decision making, by creating consequence. It caused me to play quite cautiously. It also encouraged me to spend souls as soon as I had a decent amount, rather than lose them. I think this affects what risks you take, and also moves character progression forward. I’ve not experienced anything quite like it before.
Now, onward into the castle.
