While the previous photos of my newest Tolkien cosplay (Ndani-tharo/Denethor of the Nandor) showcase the colors of the costume, this edit is closer to how it probably would have looked, since Ndanitharo lived and died before the Sun and the Moon first rose. I imagine the elves would have been able to see better than we do in a moonless night, so I didn’t edit everything just grey or excessively dark. ;)

Luthien is often made into this sheltered princess who doesn't know much about the outside world(for understandable reasons, it fits with the fairytale trope, we're never really told much on her life before she met Beren anyway, etc) but the Girdle of Melian never existed until the early years of the First Age so I like to imagine that before the creation of the girdle she was a passionate explorer, wandering to the farthest corners of Beleriand, from the rivers of Ossiriand to the shores of Cirdan's Havens, from dark Nan Elmoth to the birch forests of Nimbrethil, to the piney woodland hills of Dorthonion and the misty lake of Mithrim. She only chooses to stay in Doriath after the Girdle has been raised out of love for her parents and other kindred, and even then she spends most of her time in the woods of Neldoreth rather than the halls of Menegroth, for it is in the wild that she feels the most free.

@sindarweek Day 8: Original Characters
Sirvrethil S. “river princess”
Born in Neldoreth, between the Esgalduin and Mindeb rivers, Sirvrethil had an uncanny penchant for herb lore and anatomy. While Doriath had healers aplenty in Menegroth, Sirvrethil found purpose in tending to the king’s horses and practicing her skill on lamed beasts. While visiting her mother’s people in Ossiriand, Sirvrethil found better employment first under
Lord Ambarussa and then Lord Caranthir.
Eventually she was taken to Himring because of her skill with bone-setting and muscular ailments. While generally her patients were horses, it was not uncommon for Sirvrethil to be called upon as a healer for the Lord of Himring. She remained in Maedhros’ retinue in one capacity or another until after the Nirnaeth.
Sirvrethil parted ways with the Fëanorians at Amon Ereb and made her way to Sirion to join up with the rest of her people after the fall of Menegroth.

In the willow-meads of Tasarinan I walked in the Spring.
Ah! the sight and smell of the Spring in Nan-tasarion!
And I said that was good.
I wandered in the Summer in the elm-woods of Ossiriand.
Ah! the light and the music in the Summer by the Seven Rivers of Ossir!
And I thought that was best.
To the beeches of Neldoreth I came in the Autumn.
Ah! the gold and the red and the sighing of leaves in the Autumn in Taur-na-neldor!
It was more than my desire.
To the pine-trees upon the highland of Dorthonion I climbed in the Winter.
Ah! the wind and the whiteness and the black branches of Winter upon Orod-na-Thôn!
My voice went up and sang in the sky.
And now all those lands lie under the wave,
And I walk in Ambaróna, in Tauremorna, in Aldalómë,
In my own land, in the country of Fangorn,
Where the roots are long,
And the years lie thicker than the leaves
In Tauremornalómë.

A Noldo Arrives at Ossiriand
second art submission for @fall-for-tolkien Scribbles & Drabbles 2022, inspired by the Redwood forests of California.
In Ossiriand dwelt the Green-elves, in the protection of their rivers; for after Sirion Ulmo loved Gelion above all the waters of the western world. The woodcraft of the Elves of Ossiriand was such that a stranger might pass through their land from end to end and see none of them. They were clad in green in spring and summer, and the sound of their singing could be heard even across the waters of Gelion; wherefore the Noldor named that country Lindon, the land of music, and the mountains beyond they named Ered Lindon, for they first saw them from Ossiriand.

My unexpected new cosplay, definitely the most obscure elf I've cosplayed so far: Ndanitharo/Denethor, lord of the Nandor that dwelt in Ossiriand. I prefer the Primitive Elvish version of his name (Ndani-tharo) over the Sindarin name since the Nandor were a different group of elves (all belonging to the Teleri). Also of course to avoid confusion regarding the well known Denethor from the 3rd Age.
Ndanitharo doesn’t have a big role in the Silmarillion, but since I play a Nando OC in our Gondolin & Dragons DnD, I had a bit of headcanon backstory involving him.

For the mother's day prompts: Nimloth and her mama? Any age, any stage. What's in your headcanon box? 🙂
It was easy for Nimloth to choose Ossiriand, the homeland of her mother. Thither had Deilwidh led her often, to visit her tree-dwelling kinsfolk in the land of whispering reeds. For Deilwidh had not been afraid, as others of her people were, to step beyond the circle of Melian’s protection.
Nimloth was not afraid when her heart leapt towards the King's grandchild, who was then a modest son of the riverlands overawed by his first sight of the realm that was his inheritance.
It was easy to choose Dior, and to forsake the forest where she passed years wanting for nothing and yet ever unfulfilled, awaiting she knew not what. For she knew, then, and could not but smile when she parted from her mother, her closest companion, to take up a new life.
But as unhappy chance leads her back to Menegroth as Queen of a diminished people, she wishes she had known, for all it would change nothing, that Deilwidh’s parting kiss pressed to her temple would be the last.
