final chapter of tatts & cupcakes my loves !!
Days turned to weeks which turned to months and ultimately a few years went by. In the past few years you officially became Jay’s girlfriend, Ni-ki learned that he had two dads, and Sunoo and Jungwon were more than happy to call you their mom. But despite this, there was always a lingering worry in the back of your head. What if one day, Jay decided that the trouble of loving you and Ni-ki was no longer worth it to him? What if Sunoo and Jungwon no longer wanted you as their mom or Ni-ki as their younger brother? But today those worries would be put to rest forever. As you looked at yourself in the mirror wearing the dress you had chosen for yourself while holding a bouquet of flowers, the sound of your name being called causes you to turn around to see Heeseung and Jake walking up to you with a grin on their faces.
“Jay’s gonna be a wreck when he sees you,” Heeseung said.
“Ten bucks says he’ll cry,” Jake adds in, nudging the older with his elbow. You can’t help but roll your eyes at the two and ask,
“Is everyone here already?”
“Yeah, they’re all sitting down. Sunghoon’s trying to calm Jay down though, I’ve never seen him this nervous before,” Jake replies. Dressed in their suits, Sunoo and Jungwon run up to you. While planning your wedding, you and Jay decided that Sunoo and Jungwon would walk you down the aisle while Ni-ki stood next to Jay. After Heeseung and Jake jokingly told you that there was still a way out if you wanted to leave, you stood behind the door with Sunoo and Jungwon holding your hand. When the doors opened and you took your first step, you the wedding march played. Despite all the people watching you, the nervousness was washed away and replaced with excitement. The only thing you could focus on was the sight of Jay and the feel of the two hands holding yours. You see Heeseung handing Jake what you can only assume to be a $10 bill, causing you to have to hold back a slight laugh. Step by step, you walked with Sunoo and Jungwon until you finally stood in front of the man who would be your husband. Sunoo and Jungwon head to your side while you see Ni-ki with the biggest smile on his face. You wipe away Jay’s tears, something that he’s done for you more times than you can count but today, the roles were switched.
“I love you.” You had said it in hopes of calming him down but it only seemed to have the opposite effect as he cried even harder. You felt lightheaded, palms sweaty, and the butterflies in your stomach felt as if they were doing cartwheels. Finally,
“You may now kiss the bride.” Not even a full second later you felt Jay pull you close and his lips on yours. He deepened the kiss slightly, but still mindful of the people in the audience watching you both. Jay’s arms settled around your waist while pressing a kiss to the top of your head,
“Thank you for giving us a chance,” you hear him whisper.
Tumblr media
While you and Jay were unpacking boxes into the new house the five of you decided on, Sunoo, Jungwon, and Ni-ki were in the living room. The house had more than enough rooms for the boys to have their own but they chose to share one. In the meantime, the other rooms were turned into guest rooms. While watching them chatting and playing amongst each other, Jay’s presence makes itself known to your body with the feel of him behind you and his embrace surrounding you,
“We’re home,” you say as you hold Jay’s hands. You feel him playing with the wedding ring on your left hand and despite not directly looking at him, you just know that he’s smiling. While resting his head on your shoulder,
“Anywhere is home with you and our boys.” You turn around to face him,
“Y’know… our boys have been talking about wanting a cat lately.” Cringe washes over Jay’s face at the thought of a cat in the house,
“I’m allergic to cats.”
“What about a dog instead?” you ask, voice sounding more excited than you meant it to. Jay raises his eyebrow in suspicion,
“Is this something they want or something you want?”
“I’d like to think that this is a family necessity.”
“Dogs are just agents of capitalism,” he replies with a roll of his eyes.
“At least think about it first before saying no.”
“Yeah, yeah, I’ll think about it.”
Tumblr media
Jay’s “YAHHHH” in the morning (which the entire neighborhood probably heard) wakes you up and gets you out of bed. Still sleepy, you drag a blanket with you. When you walk to the living room, you’re met with the sight of Ni-ki clinging onto Jay’s leg, Sunoo watching everything while munching on some bread you baked just last night, and Jungwon carrying Maeumi, your recently adopted dog in his arms.
“Jungwon-ah, give me the dog,” Jay says sternly and gritting his teeth. When Jungwon sees you, he immediately runs behind you but on his face, you can see a mischievous smirk. Patting Jungwon’s head and looking at Jay,
“Babe, what happened?”
“The little agent of capitalism chewed on the cables in my office!” You can’t help but laugh, while now petting Maeumi’s head,
“It’s kinda your fault for leaving the door open, isn’t it?” Jay sighs, most likely thinking of ways to find inner peace,
“D-don’t tell me you’re taking the dog’s side right now?”
“Of course I am.”
“You really love the dog more than me?” With a teasing smile,
“Of course I do.”
“I never should’ve agreed to adopting the dog if it was just gonna become number one in your heart,” he muttered.
“Our boys and Maeumi are number one to me, you’re second,” you corrected.
Tumblr media
Following the next few weeks, you noticed that Maeumi was closer and clinger to you than normal. Maeumi would settle by your stomach when you sat on the couch or lay on your lap and you couldn’t help but wonder why. But then, it hit you.
You had been slightly moodier.
You felt a little queasy in the mornings.
And you were late.
When you realized what the possibility was, you headed to the bathroom. The morning of the day K came back into your and Ni-ki’s life, you were sick and Jay took care of you. He bought a ton of medicine and somehow, a pregnancy test got added into the mix. You weren’t sure why, but you had kept it after all this time. While waiting for the results of the test, thousands of thoughts were running through your mind as nervousness coursed through your veins. Were you and Jay even ready for a baby? Well... you had three kids already but a newborn? Having another child was a conversation that hadn’t yet come up after getting married, moving into the new house, and adopting Maeumi. After all, Jay was running his company while you were running the bakery. But when the test was finally ready and the two lines set in tears of happiness began to pour from your eyes. That night when Jay came home and you were all eating dinner you wanted to tell them right then and there but decided that it’d be better to tell them after getting confirmation from the doctor. Which was exactly what you did the next day.
“Congratulations!” the doctor said to you as she showed you the screen of the ultrasound. She printed out a couple of pictures for you to keep and you bought some decorations to surprise Jay tonight. After closing the bakery early and picking up the boys from school,
“When we get home, do you guys wanna help Eomma decorate the living room?” you asked after heading into the house.
“Is today a special day?” Jungwon asked, eyes wide and curiously looking up at you. You nodded and took out the picture to show them,
“You guys are going to have a little brother or sister in a few months.”
“Really? I won’t be the maknae anymore?” Ni-ki asked, eyes full of hope.
“Yup, you’ll be an oppa or a hyung now!”
“Wahh, can I eat tteokbeokki with our new dongsaeng?” came from Sunoo.
“When they get older, of course you can! Now, let’s get to decorating so we can surprise Appa, ok?” You were met with a chorus of excited “yes, Eomma!” and with that, decorating and getting ready to surprise Jay when he got home began.
The house was dark when Jay got home, causing him to wonder where you and the boys were.
“Love?” he called out.
No answer.
“Sunoo-ah?”
Nothing.
“Jungwon-ah?”
Nada.
“Ni-ki-ah?”
He swore he could’ve heard crickets chirping. Desperate for any answer,
“Yah! Agent of capitalism, where are you?” That garnered an answer as the light tapping of Maeumi’s feet on the floor met his ears and Maeumi was now in front of him. He picked up Maeumi and walked further into the house. Turning on the light in the living room and suddenly being met with,
“SURPRISE!”
“YAH, YOU SCARED ME!” he yelled as he stumbled back, and fell onto the floor. The boys instantly piled themselves on top of Jay in excitement but he looked at you with slight fear in his eyes,
“It’s not our anniversary, is it? Did I forget?” he asked. You shook your head,
“No, you didn’t forget anything. But we have a surprise for you.”
“And that is?” You handed Jay a small box in which you put a “dad of five kids” mug (Maeumi included even if Jay didn’t want to admit it), a picture of the ultrasound, and your pregnancy test. Jay looked at the cup in confusion but when he looked at the other contents of the box, it finally registered in his head. He held the ultrasound by its corner as if he were scared it’d turn to dust or get wrinkled.
“We’re having a baby?” His eyes were shining when he looked at you, you were unsure if it was because of the tears forming in his eyes or the happiness, maybe it was both.
“Mhm, we’re having a baby.”
“Wait isn’t this the test that I bought like, years ago?”
“I told you it’d come in handy one day.” All of a sudden, Jay was hugging you and practically sobbing in your shoulder,
“I love you. So, so, so much. I don’t think words can do my feelings justice. I just, I love you.” Returning Jay’s hug while rubbing his back,
“What do you want it to be?” you asked curiously. In Jay’s head flashed to the daydreams of a little girl running around a house, that little girl being half-you, half-him. But in this moment, he didn’t care if it was a girl, a boy, or whatever it’d choose to identify as in the future.
“Healthy, as long as it’s healthy I couldn’t care less.” You smiled at Jay’s response, hugging him tighter. You knew that being with Jay, trusting him, loving him, it truly was the right direction.
↬ final tatts & cupcakes a/n:
this is the end of tatts & cupcakes and wow has it been a rollercoaster !! i don’t know how to feel about this series ending since it was by first baby (is it weird to say that? idk but anyways) i'll be honest with yall, this series was a product of my procrastination... it was around 1 am and i just didn’t want to do any of my work so i just thought to myself, “let’s write a fic with jay as a single dad” because why not ?? initially, it was going to be a oneshot but then i realized writing it as a oneshot wasn’t the best option for me because one, i needed to get my work done at some point lmao and two, it’d just be way too long so i ended up writing the first chapter, read it over a bit, posted it, and tatts & cupcakes was born !! i didn’t think that the series would get this far with the storyline and there were a few times when i thought about discontinuing it due to things like school, thinking it wasn’t interesting enough, other responsibilities, etc., but then i started getting notifs related to the series and writing became the better parts of my weeks so thank you everyone !! for those who have read until this part and decided to give my writing a chance and for all the love that this series has received, thank you so much !! i hope that it’s been written well enough to be a series actually worth spending time on to read 🥺
even though this series is ending, i do have some happy news !! i’ve started a new one called cameras & caffeine the pairing for this series is cafe owner!jake x ceo!reader cameras & caffeine is similar to tatts & cupcakes in how reader is also a single mother there so if you’re interested check it out here :)
once again, thank you so so much for taking the time out of your day to read tatts & cupcakes and i hope you’ve enjoyed !!

Rumour Has It
Tumblr media
Shawn Mendes x female reader
Warning: fluff, maybe grammar error and maybe some punctuation errors.
Note: did not proofread this, so sorry about that. Hope you like it anon. Thank you so much for requesting ❤️😆….
It was your last day in Mallorca. The two of you were at a boat with some close friends to flim the last few scenes of the SOL music video.
As the filming wrapped up, Shawn suddenly asked for the whole boat’s attention as he pulled you to stand up, reaching into his pocket and feeling for something, before quickly grabbing your hand again. You look at him with a confused expression, but the look he sent you told you to not worry.
“Okay, dare I say I still get a little bit nervous around you. Get a little bit stressed out when I think about this moment but mostly get too excited. Y/N, I’m falling all in you. So there's nothing holdin' me back right now.”
Your friends chuckled lightly as he say the words, and taking a deep breath.
“Y/n, I’ve been in love with you for as long as I can remember. I can’t seem to write one song that’s not about you or for you. However, no song can ever justify how amazing you are and how in love I am with you but mostly I just can't imagine what my world would be like without you in it.”
Everyone couldn’t help but stare with teary eyes this time, but all you could let out was a small chuckle. You were smiling and tearing up as he continued talking.
“I knew that I just wanna be a part of your life whether as your friend or lover because I will never be able to forgive myself if I let someone like you walked out of my life. They say a person needs just three things to be truly happy in this world: Someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for. I can safely say that I got all that and I am currently living the dream with you by my side.” He stopped for a second, taking a deep breath and trying his best not to tear up.
“After our third month anniversary I remember calling my Dad at around midnight and I said that I really wanna marry you. He said that it was too soon and he said I have to rethink everything, but I meant every word and until today I am still very much in love with you if not more. And I want to spend every single day of the rest of my life with you. So will you make me even happier than I already am and marry me?”
As Shawn finished his speech, he got down on one knee and got the ring out of his pocket, looking up at you with a smile. As tears stream down your face, you smile, nodding your head as he stands, bringing you into a hug.
As you pull apart, he slips the ring onto your finger before he reaches up and wipes your tears. You laugh, sniffling as he leans down and kisses you.
———————-
“I want you to clear something up for me because there’s all sorts of rumours flying around about Y/N’s recent TikTok video.” Jimmy said as he bring out a small black cupboard cut out your recent TikTok video.
So after what happened at Mallorca, aka your engagement; the news was kept a secret and neither of you confirm or deny the rumours. Of course your friends and Family knew the truth about the happy news but the two of you simply weren’t ready to tell the whole world.
Well, maybe until SOL was released and you wanted to show support via your TikTok account. But, that day you were less cautious so you forgot to take off your ring. Neither of you thought people would notice, but they did.
Shawn never thought of making a clarification here at the Fallon Show, while promoting his new song but here goes nothing.
It’s now or never. Deep down, he is so happy that he can finally brag about it to the whole world because he was always just one post away from sharing it to his social media while you were always the cautious one in the relationship. Not because you were ashamed or anything but more of keeping things private.
“So, Y/N did this TikTok video right?” Jimmy questions.
“Yep, TikTok is kinda like her thing now since the pandemic.” He giggled.
“Her dance was fabulous, but then look here. Looks like there’s a ring on that finger.” Jimmy continued as the camera zoomed on the cupboard cut out and bunch of ooohh was heard from the audience.
“Yeah, both of us are just excited to finally share the music.” He giggled as he try to deflect the question.
“Shawn…”
“Yes, jimmy?”
“You know, I gotta ask my friend.” Jimmy replied trying to hold back his laughter.
“I know what you’re gonna ask.” Shawn smiled shyly.
“So… did you asked Y/N Y/L/N to marry you?”
“Yeah, I did! And she said yes!” He blurred out quickly.
“Oh my god!! Please tell me more, I need details.”
“So, I have to say it was kinda hard to convince her that she should come to Mallorca too. Of course she wants to be there but it was the same time with her press tour. And so I had to call her manager and bunch of other people to make it possible.” He grinned before continuing.
“So if you guys saw the music video, there were a couple of scenes where we were all at a boat, and so it actually was a last minute arrangement so Y/N wouldn’t be suspicious. And so we flimed that first then I proposed after that. Lots of thing happened man, I mean I even almost lost the ring too and I somehow got bitten by a sea lice.”
The audience exclaimed a bunch of oohhh and sweet 'aw’ when they saw Shawn proudly showing the pictures on his phone and Jimmy was just widely smiling.
“I feel like time flew by so fast, last time both of you were here you were denying all dating rumours.” Jimmy said, “and now you are getting married to each other, this is the best news ever!”
“Yeah I was already so in love with her back then, now I just can’t wait to marry her,” He commented and nodding his head slowly.
“Do you know the wedding date?” Jimmy asked hesitantly, to which Shawn took another breath before replying.
“Yeah, we do,” he laughed nervously. “We are going to do it somewhere next year after Wonder tour ends.”
 “I’m so happy for both of you right now! I can only hope I will get an invitation.”
“Of course man, it would be great to have you.” Shawn smiled.
The rest of the interview was great. He talked more about both KESI and SOL, learning Spanish with you, how proud he is that your movie will be out soon, and how both of you have been quite busy with all the wedding planning.
Thank you for reading guys... feel free to like, reblog, follow my account, leave a comment and my chat is always open for random chats or requests... appreciate every single one of you... ❤️

Years Together (Sergio Ramos)
A/N: Here I am, back with my first football little one-shot, or multiple parts since this is based on a TikTok. Anyway, I wanted to do it on bae, Sergio Ramos. I love this man, I would sacrifice a whole lot of things for this man. I know I usually write Mayans, specifically Angel, but I wanted to branch out. Be on the lookout for Rio, Billy Russo and Bucky Barnes. Maybe even Lewis Tan, Sebastian Stan are on the horizon. Regardless, I hope you all enjoy what I write still. If you don’t read, totally understandable, I still love you all!
I will try to finish all my works in progress along with the requests I have! EZ should be next since I’m almost done with his, I just have to actually finish it.
Love you all!

CREDITS TO THE GIF MAKER <3
You sat beside Sergio as he watched the next Marvel film in the series of chronological order for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So far, you two were at Iron Man II. Sergio has been either working out or watching film during the quarantine. La Liga was set to reconvene in two weeks and you were honestly excited. Though you couldn’t go to the matches, at least Sergio and the boys would be gracing your screens again.
You and Sergio have been together for nine years and in those ten years, you two have had two sons together, Sergio Jr. and Thiago. You two were set to get married this year, but with the pandemic happening, you thought it would be best to postpone the wedding till all your friends and family could safely participate.
With the pandemic happening, your work has been moved to a home setting. You actually didn’t mind holding meetings and working at home, it made things so much easier for you. You could take care of the boys, with Sergio’s help and also be able to stay safe. Sergio was holding Thiago, your three year old, while Junior, your five year old was nestled right beside you.
“Should we order dinner? Or are we cooking?” You questioned him.
“Pizza?” Sergio has been indulging due to the pandemic and it wasn’t like the calories were staying on him. Sergio worked out far too much for the calories to really make a dent to his ungodly body.
You ordered pizza through an app, letting Sergio pick the toppings. You all got your own personalized pizza that was the perfect size for one person. You also got some cheesy bread since your sons were a sucker for cheese and so were you.
You scrolled through TikTok as the movie began. TikTok has become an obsession you couldn’t drop. It was ridiculous, but the endless hours you spent on this app was dangerous. You even made an account. You’ve posted a few TikTok’s of you messing with Sergio, but nothing too insane as of yet. You did want to try one with Sergio, to see how he would react to this specific TikTok. There was a TikTok going around where the person gets the number of years together wrong and their partner reacts. There were a varying amount of reactions and you wanted to see what Sergio would say.
Setting up your phone to record him, you focused the camera on Sergio, who was enjoying some juice you made earlier in the day.
“Babe,” you called out.
“Hmm,” his eyes remained on the screen.
“You know what I find insane? My sister just texted me and told me that we’ve been together for seven years. That’s a long time huh?” You had to hold back your laughter. You didn’t think Sergio was paying attention since he’s been occupied by the Marvel Cinematic Universe since he finished his morning workout.
Sergio paused the movie and looked back at you. “Seven years? Who have you been dating for seven years?” He gave you an incredulous look. “We’ve been together for ten years, five months, three weeks, 5 days, and six hours.”
The details he uttered made you speechless. You knew how long you two were together by at least years and months, but he knew the weeks, days and hours?
“What?” You looked at him in disbelief. “You know all of that?”
“Yes, of course I do. I still don’t think you understand how long I waited for you to agree to go on a date with me.” Sergio shook his head. “Now, who the hell have you been dating for seven years. I can text our sister right now.”
You’ve known Sergio since childhood through your sister. He wasn’t much older than you, just by a few years. Your sister was never fond of the idea of you dating Sergio, so you kept him at arm's length, but after the 2010 World Cup, you changed your mind and said screw it. You went on one date with Sergio and the rest was history. You two were on and off, but Sergio never let too much time pass till he waved the white flag. He had a temper and you liked to push him. You two were volatile, but somehow, you two made it work. He loves fiercely and so do you. Sergio always knew you were the one, he always said it was the way you would ignore him that got him.
But you weren’t ignoring him, you just didn’t like him.
And the dislike eventually grew to fondness to friendship and then to love.
“Babe, it's a prank.” You stopped recording, saving the video as a draft and showing him where you got the idea from.
Sergio looked at you and shook his head. “You’re such damn trouble.” He chuckled, playing the movie once again. “I’m gonna have to start watching some videos, just so we can be at an even playing field.”
“Do you know the seconds too?”
“That’s pushing it.”
You had to laugh at that. “That’s pushing it?”
Sergio turned to you and kissed you. Junior let out a giggle along with your youngest son Thiago. “Babe, you’re the longest commitment I’ve had besides being in the Madrid team. So yes, I value and keep track of how long we’ve been together, pretty soon, I’ll be counting marriage years.”
“You know, we should just get married at a courthouse. All we need is your mom, my mom and there we go. Hell, we can even do it virtually.”
Sergio paused the movie again. “I want you to have your dream wedding.”
“I don’t have one, I just want to be married to you.”
Sergio chuckled and shook his head. “You know that’s what I want to, but I want us to be able to celebrate with our family and friends. To really enjoy the fact that we’ve annoyed them with our PDA for ten years.”
You laughed. “You’re such a dork.” You pushed his head. “Okay, we can wait. As long as I become Mrs. Ramos at the end.”
“Baby, there’s no way you won’t be Mrs. Ramos at the end. I told you three years in, it’s you and me.” Sergio squeezed your thigh. “Te queiro mi amor.” He kissed you again.
And it was true, Sergio had told you he was going to marry you some day on your third year anniversary. You brushed it off and said we’ll see next year. And each year after that, Sergio upped his game. Finally, on your eight year anniversary he proposed. It’s not like he didn’t want to do it earlier, but he knew for some reason you weren’t ready. A relationship was one thing but an engagement was another.
“Love you too.” You had your hand at the back of his neck, scratching it, a gesture Sergio absolutely adored.
You two watched the movie, mostly Sergio whole you browsed around TikTok. You started saving videos to do with Sergio. Another one you wanted to do was the ‘what three things would you take with you if we got divorced’?
But you would save that for next time.
Let the TikTok videos begin.

Teasing Antonio was no problem. He would melt in your hand if you kissed or touched him in a sexual way. But for the last few days he's been off. Trying to avoid you and your touch. Something was up and you needed to know what.
"Oh babycakes"? You purred strutting over to Antonio's desk. He was concentrating on a file in his hand. His eyes never leaving the print.
"Antonio Dawson, you better look at me when I'm talking to you". You came up behind him. Your hands on his shoulders, massaging his tight muscles slightly whimpering in his ear. "God daddy, you're so wound up. Let me help you relax". Your hands started to travel down his chest. Feeling the ripples from his pecks and ribs. His body tenses up from your touch.
"Y/N"! Antonio scorned quite loudly as the others looked at him, oddly. You couldn't help but giggle.
"Stop. We are at work, you need to behave. I'm serious". Antonio jerked up out of his chair and  fixed his shirt aggressively.
"Well, someone didn't get the memo". You sucked on your bottom lip as yours and Antonio's eyes went down to the tent growing in his pants. He quickly covered it with his hands. A blush crept along his cheeks.
Licking your lips walking over to him. "This is what you get for teasing me and not holding up your end". The whisper in Antonio's ear sent chills down his spine. He wanted you so freaking bad but he made a promise to someone.
"Y/N Shay, you need to go do your work. Now". Antonio gulped as you faced him. His eyes fluttered down and saw your breast was inches away from his chest.
"Okay. If you say so, Mr. Dawson". You turned on your heels, your
hair hitting Antonio in the face. Your shampoo filling Antonio's nostrils, making him kick himself for turning you away.
The last couple hours were hell for Antonio. When he looked up, he didnt see you glancing at him or sticking your tongue out at him. Nothing. You were totally cold to him and he felt horrible because he couldnt tell you the truth.
When work was over Antonio rushed to his car, not saying anything to you. He put the car in drive and headed to the firehouse. That's what he couldn't tell you.
"Shay, I think I may have made her mad". Antonio was telling your sister Leslie about what happened at work.
"She'll be fine. She can withstand from sex for awhile". Shay laughed.
"Are you kidding? She is punishing me. Today she wore this sexy tight skirt with a white blouse and a black bra. To torture me. I couldnt do anything about it. I am so wound up when I'm around her.  I'm going to explode". Antonio paced the cement, chewing his bottom lip. His pants still just as tight with the tent in his pants, if not tighter.
"Oh gag. You want to marry my sister, right"?
"Yes. I love her more than anything". Antonio sat down at the picnic table in front of Shay.
"Then I think you two can stay away from sex so I can see that you're in this relationship for her and not her body. Y/N, is a beautiful woman and she needs to be loved for herself not her looks".
"I know. But I'm not like those other guys. I love her for her dorky, sassy and intelligent personality. We have fun together. The kids like her. We have the same friends and she practically lives with me. Why can I not marry her already? I have the ring"?
"You have a ring"? Shay asked shocked, Antonio and you only been dating for a year and a half. So it came as a surprise.
"It was my mothers. I've had it in my pocket since our sixth month anniversary. That's how long I've been wanting to marry her". Antonio reached into his pants pocket and pulled out a little diamond ring with a wedding band.
"Cute. So you're really serious about this"? Shay eyed him.
"Yes. More than I've ever been. Laura, she's didnt like the job so that's what didnt work in our relationship. But Y/N, she knows the job and what comes with it. She has my back and I have hers. Always. She gets me and I get her".
"Alright, Dawson. You can marry my sister but if you step one foot out of line. I'll turn the hose on you and then wrap it around your neck. Got it"?
"Got it.  I'm going to go marry my girl". Antonio gushed with a grin  jumping up from the table. "Thanks, Shay. You wont regret it". He yelled over his shoulder before getting into his car.
"I better not". Shay smiled as Antonio disappeared down the road. She was happy for the both of them and she wanted you to be happy. Antonio was a good guy and he had a great family. Lucky to have you.
Antonio pulled into his drive way and your car was parted in his spot as usual. He chuckled and got out, running to the door. His heart was beating rapidly from excitement. He opened the door and his smile dropped. You were sitting on the couch crying.
"What's wrong? What happened"? Antonio quickly dashed over to the couch. You kicked him away when he tried to get close.
"You dont find me attractive anymore". You wailed, tears falling down your cheek and onto Antonio's shirt you were wearing.
"Baby, that's not true at all. I love you and I think you're the most beautiful woman ever". Antonio took your left hand in his.
"Then why dont you want to sleep with me? I wore a sexy outfit today and nothing happened. The old you would have taken me in the locker room without a blink of an eye". You sniffled.
"Y/N, you may think this is stupid but it's for a good reason". Antonio started.
"What"?
"Shay, said that I had to abstain from sex with you". Antonio nervously chuckled.
"She what? You actually listened to her"? You growled, taking the closest pillow near you and hitting Antonio over the head with it repeatedly.
"Babe, babe. Stop. It's for a good reason". Antonio held up his hands, covering his face.
"It better be. I am so horny. I could kill you". You giggled settling back into your spot. Antonio laughed.
"I asked Shay two weeks ago if I could marry you but she wouldn't say yes.  Unless I resisted you. She wanted to make sure I was in the relationship for you and not your body". Antonio explained. Your jaw dropped to the floor.
"You- you want to marry me"?
"Yes". Antonio pulled out the ring and slid it on your finger. "Y/N Shay, will you marry me and make me the happiest man in the world"?
"Yes, oh yes, Antonio". You squealed, jumping into Antonio's lap. Wrapping your arms around his neck. Kissing his lips deeply in love.
"Aaaaaah. I love it, baby. Thank you. I cant wait to be your wife". You say between kisses.
"It was my mothers. I should've given it to you long ago but now seemed to be the right time. I love you".
"I love you too. So much". You kissed him even more.  All the passion and fury was coming undone.
"Let's go make up for lost time". You moaned into the kiss.
"You read my mind". Antonio picked you up and started to carry you down the hall but you'd stopped him.
"Wait, you said she told you two weeks ago about not having sex. But you've only been acting weird for the last couple days". You tilted your head at him. You've been having sex.
"What can I say. I couldn't resist such a sexy, beautiful, intelligent woman sleeping next to me. The last few days have been hell not touching you. That wont happen again". Antonio playfully growled, nipping at your neck. You giggled as he carried you to the bedroom.
You got what you had wanted for so long.  Antonio Dawson to be your husband and for him to put his hands back on you.

Lost in Hollywood (Part 1) | Wong Yukhei (Lucas)
Pairing: Wong Yukhei (Lucas) x Reader
Summary: Your husband Lucas is trying to make it big in Hollywood. But you have a secret which might break you up for good…
Genre: Husband!Lucas, Actor!Lucas, Angst
Word Count: 1.3k
Gif: @jungsungchans
Part 1 ⭐️ | Part 2 | Part 3
Tumblr media
You watched your husband of four years tuck in to his steak and chips.
It was the most relaxed you’d seen him in days. If only you felt that calm.
What you’d learned that morning had your nerves sparking like live wires. But you couldn’t tell Lucas. Not tonight.
A smudge of barbecue sauce sat like a brushstroke on Lucas’s chin, but he was enjoying his food too much to notice. His entire focus was on savouring every bite.
No wonder he was hungry; you'd been eating bread and butter for a week to afford this. But he was living in the moment. That was important, wasn’t it?
Revealing your secret would relieve your stress, but what would it do to Lucas? Send him right over the edge, that’s what.
You exhaled and tried to smile. It was your fourth wedding anniversary. Since moving to L.A., you hadn’t had a lot of reasons to celebrate.
You should have been sipping fine champagne and laughing recklessly at your good fortune. But fine champagne wasn’t your reality.
Hollywood was to blame.
If the city had welcomed Lucas with open arms instead of stinging punches, sharing your news wouldn't be so nerve-wracking.
How you wished things would change for Lucas. Even with the voracious eating, he was the sexiest man in the restaurant. The sweetest too.
You couldn’t believe you were the lucky one he fell for all those years ago.
The first time you saw Lucas was by your high school locker. You’d dropped your folder and were standing motionless as your papers drifted across the floor.
Lucas was opening his locker a few down from yours, his firm teenage biceps flexing as he spun the dial.
His dark hair fell across his eyes, and he brushed it aside before suddenly turning to you. All you saw was decadent caramel.
Your heart hammered as he bent over to gather your papers.
“I think these are yours,” he said, a smile lingering on his lips.
You looked into his cocoa eyes, and your legs became jelly. “Thanks,” you said in a hoarse whisper.
“You’re welcome. I’m Lucas.”
“Y/n.” You gathered yourself. “You’re new here.”
“I am. Maybe you can show me around after school.”
That was six years ago.
After four years of marriage and two kids, Lucas still made you want to jump into bed with him and never leave.
That’s what got us into this predicament, you thought.
Lucas swiped a napkin across his plump lips. “You’re not eating much, darlin’. Is your burger okay?”
“Yes! It’s good. Delicious,” you added, taking a quick bite to prove it. “I’m just enjoying this alone time with you.”
“Me too. We need more nights out, don’t we?”
“That would be nice,” you murmured.
But that wasn’t going to happen. Oh dear.
A wave of nausea rolled through your stomach. How long could you keep the news from him?
A hopeful smile lit Lucas’s face. “I can’t wait for the day I can quit this damn bartending job. I swear, if I never have to make another martini, I’ll die a happy man.”
“I want that for you too,” you said earnestly. “You work so hard for us. Maybe it’s time I got a job... I’m still good at drawing, I could look into jobs in graphic design?”
Hmm. Your mind began gnawing at the possibility. Lucas wasn’t the only one who could make money.
“You don’t have to, babe. You’re busy enough with the kids. Don’t add more to your plate.”
Too late, anyway. Your mind travelled back to twelve hours ago. When you squatted on the cold bathroom floor and watched two blue lines appear on your pregnancy test.
Baby Number Three.
You’d never experienced pure joy and pure fear at the same time. Another baby! One more mouth to feed!
Lucas lifted his glass, his smile straightening. “To you, Y/n. I love you more each day.”
You touched your glass to his, eyes locked. You knew Lucas meant it with all his heart. That’s why you’d accepted his proposal at just eighteen.
“I love you, too, Lucas Wong. And…” you added, confidence surging in your heart, “here’s to our babies.”
You studied his face, searching for a glimmer of reassurance, anything.
“To all of us.”
You clinked glasses again, but Lucas quickly reached for his vibrating phone.
He slid it from the pocket of his jeans and held it up. “I’ve gotta take this. It’s Gayathri.”
You waved a hand at him. “Go on. It could be important.”
Gayathri was his agent and his direct link to fame and fortune.
It seemed like yesterday that you waved goodbye to your parents from Lucas’s blue Ford pickup truck. The backseat was filled with your worldly goods, and your hearts were filled with dreams.
Lucas had been chasing his dream for four years now. Time had inhaled those years with virtually nothing to show for it.
Oh, he’d worked as an extra in plenty of movies, but you’d come to learn that extra work was a long, dull stop on the road to nowhere.
You remember when Lucas got his first proper role as a cop on Prison Break. You dusted off the bottle of wedding champagne and chilled it on ice.
You were certain that was the night your daughter Mari had been conceived.
And Teddy was born just seven months ago. Your angel boy with Lucas’s chocolate eyes. Goodness! The next child would arrive before Teddy was even two.
You were already living paycheck to paycheck. If prospects didn’t change for you and Lucas soon, you’d be in deep trouble.
An ugly thought slid into your mind. You weren’t the only guilty one - it took two to make a baby.
Lucas strolled back in, and you smiled at the look on his face.
“What did your agent say?”
“Remember how I sent in my audition tape for Brooklyn Nine-Nine last Wednesday?”
“How could I forget? I love that show!” You smiled.
“Well, I thought nothing came from it, since a whole week had passed…” Despite Lucas’s efforts to hide his excitement, a silly grin clung to his face. “But I have a callback on Friday!”
Without warning, your eyes filled with tears.
You tried to blink them back, but one was already blazing a trail down your cheek. Swiping it away, you smiled. “That’s amazing!”
Lucas tilted his head and looked at you, his dark brows furrowed. “Why the tears, babe?”
“They’re happy tears. I promise. It’s really good news.”
He raised a brow. “I’m going to get this one for us, okay?”
Lucas thought you’re crying because you were afraid he wouldn’t get the part. God, if only he knew what your real fears were…
“I’m so proud of you, Lucas.” You lifted your hands, clasping them in front of you. “I’m just emotional because it’s our anniversary. And I love you – so much.”
Lucas touched a hand to your cheek. “I would marry you again today.”
“You too, baby.”
Lucas smoothed one crumpled bill after another onto the plastic tray. You looked away; you didn’t need to see him cursing at the price.
Laying his sexy gaze on you, he stepped from his chair and took your hand.
“Since we’re already married, let’s skip right to the honeymoon.” He winked.
Desire made your stomach flip as you rushed from the restaurant.
In the taxi home, you kept your secret buried deep down as you pressed your mouth onto Lucas’s.
Everything would be fine, you reassured yourself.
It had to be.

Robbe is a college freshman whose reckless habits and excessive drinking are starting to look an awful lot like calculated self-destruction—though his loneliness might be the thing that kills him first.
Sander is a visual arts major a few years above Robbe, with a face nobody can forget and a fuck boy reputation he can't seem to shake.
Everybody warns Robbe to stay away from the Sander, unless he wants to get burned. But Robbe's the kind of boy who likes playing with fire.

Months ago, after a one-night stand that couldn't stay that way, Robbe and Sander made an agreement—the two of them, no strings attached. But, Sander's feelings for Robbe were strong, to begin with, and they're growing stronger with each passing day—and he knows that he is more in love with Robbe than he should be.

Robbe Ijzermans is the star goalie of Antwerp U’s football team, naturally blocking shots as if it were his sixth sense. Sander Driesen is their star striker, having an eagle eye for the goal at all times.
Robbe always had a distaste for his bleached-blonde teammate and the annoying way he carried himself, but Robbe can never mask how much he admires him from a distance.
When they finally begin to learn more about each other, there is no going back for either.
With the looming playoffs in jeopardy for their entire team, will Robbe & Sander be able to manage it together? All while falling in love with each other at the same time?

Eastwood Liberty students had only one mission: to always be on top, at everything, no matter the cost.
It took Robbe just a day to realize that people there only cared about two things: money and power. But that was no surprise to him. What he didn't expect was to be confronted by this group of rich and spoiled boys, who used to always get what they wanted, especially their leader, Sander Driesen.
Sander made the rules, but unfortunately for him, Robbe had never been really good at sticking to them.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/23340514/chapters/55913782
Robbe has lost his memory from the last three years. He doesn’t remember finishing school and start college with Yasmina; he doesn’t remember going to live to the flatshare, or move out to a new place, or being friends with Milan, neither coming out as gay. And the worst of all of this is that Robbe doesn’t remember meeting Sander or that he is, in fact, truly, madly, deeply in love with him.
Hopefully, sometimes feelings are stronger than memories.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/24445087/chapters/58986433
For the past three months, Robbe’s life—and what it once was—had been stripped away and rearranged. Now, if anything, his life had become a bit repetitive: homework, stream, ignore Thomas’s Instagram, repeat. But one Friday evening, Robbe meets a hurricane in the form of a platinum-haired tattoo artist who just might show him everything that he’s been missing.
- Remember my name @ijzermans (complete | 106,3k)
https://archiveofourown.org/works/24215371/chapters/58335259
The past few weeks, Robbe has noticed a new guy has attended his high school.
Nobody really seems to care about the strange bleached kid, yet Robbe on the other hand, can't help but feel intrigued by him.
The new guy happens to be Sander, and he's not that easy to connect with. He's quiet, distant, and has a past he'd rather not share.
Or will Robbe make a difference?

“What are you looking for, Robbe?” Sander tilted his head, moving closer.
“A rush.” Robbe whispered, his lips brushing Sander’s.
Robbe Ijzermans has spent the better part of two years chasing the need to feel real again. Though being an adrenaline junkie is hardly a healthy coping mechanism, it’s one of the only things he has left.
Sander Driesen is a vampire with an unspeakable, dreadful past that won't seem to leave him.
When Robbe gets roped into Sander’s life he finds the feeling he has been chasing all along. But Sander's world has a different kind of risk, and it forces them to come face to face with the greatest danger of all. Fear of a life without the other.

pairing: jaehyun x reader
genre: fluff, marriage au!
word count: 1,252
warnings: pregnancy
-
You impatiently tap your fingers on the kitchen counter as you stare at your phone. It’s been half an hour since Jaehyun texted you saying he had arrived to the airport so he should be home any minute now. He had gone on yet another business trip but this time you couldn’t wait for him to arrive.
Your gaze lifts up to the door and your heart beats faster as you hear the sound of keys. As soon as he steps foot inside the apartment you jump on him wrapping your arms and legs around his body. You hear him chuckle as he drops his travelling bag on the floor and places his hands around you so you don’t fall, closing the door with his foot.
“Hi princess.” He says trying to see your face that is buried on his neck.
“Hi Jae.” You look up smiling as he lowers his head to give you a sweet kiss.
As your mouths part you get back on the ground.
“You must be tired from the flight.” You run a hand through his hair, examining his face.
“And hungry.” He glances over at the kitchen and sees the oven is on. “But I guess you’re already working on that.”
“Of course, now let’s handle the tired part.” You take his hand and he follows you with a smile, not even remembering his bag.
You lead him to the bathroom and he gasps as you open the door. The bathtub is filled with water and bubbles, rose petals decorate the floor, candles all around lit up the room and a light floral sense lingers in the air.
“Y/N… What is all this?” His eyes sparkle as he registers all the work you put in this.
“What better way to relax than a nice bath with your wife?” You wink at him removing your robe and getting into the tub. “Care to join me?”
Jaehyun is quick to get ride off all his clothes to get in the water leaning his back on your chest.
“Now,” you place your hands on his shoulders and start massaging them, “tell me all about the trip.”
“Well,” he closes his eyes with a smile on his lips, “apart from missing you…”
He proceeds to tell you all about the terrible passenger that sat next to him on the plane, that funny thing his coworker said, the beautiful view he had from his hotel room and how he wants to take you there one day.
“I have to go check our dinner, but you stay and enjoy your bath, ok?” He hums at your question turning to give you a passionate kiss.
“I love you, princess. Thank you for this, I really needed it.” He leans forward so you can get out of the tub.
“Oh Jae,” you wrap a towel around your body, “I’m not even halfway done spoiling you tonight.” You wink before closing the bathroom door.
Jaehyun stays for a while longer and then drains the tub taking a quick shower. He blows out all the candles before going into the bedroom to get dressed. He smiles when he sees you brought in his bag from the front door.
Once he’s comfortable in a pair of sweatpants and a plain t-shirt he walks to the kitchen and gasps for the second time tonight. You have the table set with yet more candles and his favourite dish accompanied by his favourite wine.
“Go on, take a seat.” You giggle as he’s just staring between you and the table. “Dinner will get cold, Jae.”
“Am I forgetting anything?” He slowly sits down. “It’s not our anniversary yet, that’s not for a couple of months… Your birthday was a few weeks ago and it’s definitely not my birthday-”
“Honey,” you grab his hand over the table, “you’re not forgetting anything. Can’t a woman treat her man right whenever she wants? I missed you.”
“Well I should be the one doing these things for you, not the other way around…” He pouts.
“It’s the 21st century Jaehyun, nobody cares about that, just say thank you and eat your food.” You kiss his hand.
“Thank you princess.” He shyly smiles showing his cute dimples as he digs into his meal.
You two keep talking and smiling like it was your first date all over again. But for some reason he still feels like something is up.
“Y/N, are you ok?” He looks deep into your eyes knowing you wouldn’t be able to lie to him.
“I’m good.” You gulp as you look around the room.
“C’mon princess,” he grabs your hand giving it a light squeeze that makes you look back at him, “you’ve been quite nervous all night, you didn’t even touch your wine and I’m still suspicious of you putting all this together tonight for no reason. You know you can talk to me about anything, for better and for worst.” He rubs his thumb over your wedding ring.
“Ok… There’s one more surprise for you.” You reach under your chair and grab a rectangular box with a bow on top. You bite your lip as you hand it over to him.
“You got me a gift too?” He raises his eyebrows as he grabs the box. “I should be the one bringing you something from my trip!”
“Just shut up and open it!” You cover your mouth with your hands as it came off a little bit more excited than you intended to.
He chuckles and opens the box. As he looks inside his eyes widen and the smile on his face drops. His hand is shaking as he grabs the object inside.
“I… Is this… Are you really?” He stutters.
“Yes…” You whisper with a shy smile.
Ever since you met Jaehyun he always expressed his wish to have kids one day. Almost a year ago when you got married you both wanted to start trying but it never seemed like the right time, specially with his big promotion and the amount of travels that came with it. But you soon realised that if you kept waiting for the right time it would never come, so you quit all kinds of protection and just let things happen naturally. For a while you had been feeling weird and when he was away you decided to take a pregnancy test just in case.
“I’m gonna be a father…” Tears start forming in his eyes and he gets up walking around the table.
You nod also getting up from your chair as his arms hug you in the warmest embrace.
“I thought you made me the happiest man on earth the day you said yes at the altar but you keep fulfilling my dreams.” He leans back raising his hands to caress your cheeks. “Thank you so much, Y/N. I love you.”
He kisses you passionately, both your faces covered in salty yet overly happy tears. He then gets down on his knees placing his hands over your belly, even though you’re nowhere near showing a baby bump yet.
“And you, little one,” he talks for the first time to your unborn child, “I will dedicate my life to you. I promise to always love you, until the end of my days.”
You smile as he kisses your belly. You are sure you made the right decision marrying and starting a family with him. Jaehyun will be a great dad, just like he is a great husband.

For both:
What does the outside of the home look like? (Front/back yard, garden, pool, etc)
Living room and home office (if any)?
Kitchen and dining room?
Bedrooms? (Master, guest, others)
Other rooms?
Do you own your dream home? If not, what does that dream home look like?
What is your favorite room to spend time in with each other?
Hey Bree! Sorry for responding so late (again lol). I'm no expert at interior design so please bear with me. Once again this was great to do and thank you for doing this my dear. Without a further ado, let's go!
Note : these are answered not as newlyweds but about 6 years into their marriage.
{Previous parts here}

Olivia *calling out * : Babe are the girls ready?
Ethan *rushing down the stairs holding two small bags* : Yeah all good, Liv! Vic, Lisa go say bye to mommy.
*the two little girls run over to where Olivia is standing and hug her tightly*
Olivia : Be good for auntie Sienna okay?
Both the girls : yes mommy! Love youu
Olivia : I love you too my princesses. Now go with daddy. Have fun!
Ethan *kissing Liv's forehead* : I'll be back in 30 minutes, love. When is Bree coming?
Olivia : In about an hour or so. Drive safe baby.
Ethan : always
----an hour later----
*doorbell rings and Olivia opens the door*
Bree : Hey Liv!
Olivia : Bree! Come in!
Bree : thank you. How are you all doing?
Olivia : we're good. You know the usual. How about you? Can I get you some coffee, tea? Oh I have some cupcakes too if you want.
Bree : A coffee would be nice, thank you. So a house tour today! Are you excited?
Olivia : Oh yes! But Ethan popped down to leave the girls to Sienna, he must be arriving any minute--
Ethan : Darling I'm home!
Olivia : there he is.
*Ethan comes in and hugs Liv*
Ethan : Welcome to our home Bree. How have you been?
Bree : Everything's good, thanks for asking. So ready to start the tour?
Olivia : Let's go!
Front door, pool/backyard etc
Olivia : Okay, you saw the front door but I assume you need some photos right?
Bree : that's right.
Ethan : okay the let's go from there.
Tumblr media
Olivia : We really fell in love with this house because there are so many large windows allowing plenty of light inside. I know it seems like a traditional American home but I adore it.
Bree : It's beautiful.
Ethan : Going to the back is the garden/backyard. We allow the girls only here because it's protected and there's tons of space for them to run around.
Olivia : We also added furniture here because we always love hanging out and eating here. Plus it's great for parties and having our friends over.
Living room and home office
Ethan : technically we have two living rooms.
Olivia : Yes, one is larger and more "formal" while the other is more cozy and the decor is a bit different. The whole house is in tones of white, blues, greys and black,while this room is a bit warmer. We have the TV there and a little bit of something else.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bree : Wow your home is truly beautiful. Liv, I didn't know you played.
Olivia : Thank you Bree. I actually took years of lessons as a kid and teen. Then with college and med school it was pushed to the back. Ethan didn't know about it till we met my parents who still had my baby grand tuned. *going over to the piano and softly stroking the keys* Ethan got me this as a gift for our 5th wedding anniversary. The girls love to hear me play and they seem interested in music too... Want me to play you a piece?
Bree : Wow.. I mean.. If you're sure...
Olivia *smiling* : Take a seat.
*Olivia plays a soft yet cheerful tune on the piano. She finishes and gets up to the applause of Ethan and Bree*
Olivia : Thank you guys. Alright let's move to the office.
Ethan : We try to not bring work back home, but we need the office on the days we need to work from home. We added the library too, so this room is more than a workplace.
Olivia *smirking* : sure is. Plenty of uses for this room. Right darling?
Ethan : Let's move to the kitchen.
Kitchen and dining room
Olivia : This is our dining room and straight ahead the kitchen.
Tumblr media
Olivia : I just love the black wood on the kitchen and there's so much counter space.
Ethan : We spend lots of time here because we both enjoy cooking together, but also because our girls are very into it too. They like to have us cut their vegetables, for example, into shapes and arrange then in their plates. Or baking with Liv. It's a mess after but it's worth it.
Olivia *smiling* : Totally worth it
Bedrooms (master, kids, guest)
Ethan : Upstairs we have all the bedrooms. This is our master bedroom and bathroom.
Tumblr media
Ethan : Olivia really outdid herself with our bedroom. The colors are so calming.
Olivia : Thanks babe. The bedrooms next to ours are the girls' ones.
Tumblr media
Ethan : in the future, if they agree, we're thinking of them moving into a single room. They are pretty close and even now, they are together all the time, they just sleep in different beds.
Olivia : Lastly down the hall is the guest room.
Tumblr media
Other rooms?
Olivia : Back to our bedroom we go!! My darling Bree I present you our walk in closet!
Tumblr media
Olivia : I've wanted to have this as soon as we saw the house so we had some alterations to the house plan and ta-da!
Ethan : She's always so excited to be here.
Olivia : It's my paradise Ethan. Now let's go to the basement.
Ethan : This is our bar/adult playroom.
Tumblr media
Olivia : Aka his man cave.
Ethan : I am not going to comment on that. Besides your friends are here all the time too so it is not a man cave.
Olivia : Whatever you say babe. He did a good work with the decor. All by himself. I'm still seriously impressed.
Ethan *chuckles* : You are so surprised
Olivia : You can't blame me. Now the last room. Our very own home theater!!
Tumblr media
Olivia : definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made. We needed this in our home.
Ethan : I wanted a home gym but she convinced me to do this instead.
Olivia : Pf please. There are plenty of gyms around but this? Our own place to watch movies? Just relaxing and doing nothing but cuddling and --
Ethan : Okay you're right, we know it, love.
Olivia *grinning*: We've been together for years, yet these words remain my all time favorite.
Ethan : *lovingly rolls eyes and smiles*
Do you own your dream home?
Ethan : We do.
Olivia : Absolutely. When we got married we decided we would stay at Ethan's apartment for a couple of years, then look for a house. We did intend to have a family so...
Ethan : We bought this house around the start of Liv's second pregnancy with Elisa and by the time she gave birth the house was ready to be furnished. We moved here about 3 months later, with lots of help from our family and friends.
Olivia : And this home, every part of it, was shaped by both of us so we do love living here.
What is your favorite room to spend time in with each other?
Ethan : Well... Aside firm the bedroom... The "informal" living room. There are days we'll just be sitting, Liv playing and me reading and just being together. It's the moments of calm that we need and keep us going.
Olivia : Plus, it's the place we spend time with our girls as a family. We always make sure to have time for them every day, despite our schedules. We want them to feel close to us and *holding Ethan's hand and looking at him* I think we are doing a pretty good job with them.
Bree : Honestly, I have no doubt that you do. Thank you for having me here guys, your home is absolutely fantastic.
Ethan : It's always a pleasure Bree.
Bree : I'll see you both soon, then. Have a great afternoon!
Olivia : You too Bree!

can you write a soft/angsty imagine of the reader taking back chris/steve or bucky/seb 🥺
Tumblr media
‘hi sweetheart. i know you’re not speaking to me, but i just wanted to call and tell you once again i’m really.. really sorry. i should’ve told you where i was really going and not lied to you. please call me back, okay? bye honey’
you replayed the voicemail over and over, biting the tip of your thumb. you lock your phone and dip your head into your hands, rubbing your eyes with the base of your palms.
barney nudged his head against your hands, making you smile. you sit up and pet your golden retriever on his head, squishing his face. “you’d never lie to me, would you, barnes?” he looked up at you and you laid down, barney hopping up and laying neck to you. “do you think i should take him back, or listen to him? he lied to me. he said he was going to sebastian’s, but he went out to dinner with some girl. maybe she’s just a friend, he’s allowed to have girl friends. ugh, i don’t know, barney” you look at him, who licked your face. you smiled, kissing his head. “what would i do without you?”
you fed barney a piece of bacon and smile at him as you put the pieces on your plate. you turn off the burner and grab your mug of coffee and plate of breakfast food, sitting down at the table, excited for your breakfast for dinner.
you put on a tv show you needed to catch up on, eating your waffles and barney eating his dinner. you were over halfway through your dinner when you heard a knock on your door. barney stopped eating and barked, sniffing under the door. he hopped on his two front paws, and you knew he only did that when chris was around because he smelt dodger on him.
barney sits next to the door with a happy wagging tail and you deeply sigh, opening the door and wanting to cry as chris stood in front of you. “hi” he smiled, barney jumping up and putting his paws on chris’s shoulders. “and hello to you too, what’s going on?” he laughed and you couldn’t help but smile as his laugh rang through your ears.
“down, barnes” he obeyed and you pointed to his bed, where you petted him as he walked to his bed and laid down. “what’s up?”
“can i come in?” he asked softly and you nod, opening the door more so he could step in. you closed the door and he spun on his heels. you pulled your sweater sleeves over your hands, crossing your arms over your chest. you kicked the air, rolling your lips between your teeth and smiling.
“i got your voicemail” chris turned around and sat on the couch, you following. “i’ll listen to you, chris. but you have to listen to me first” he nodded, taking off his coat and listening to you as you spoke, something you always loved about him. “you are absolutely allowed to have friends who are girls, absolutely. opposite sexes can be friends. but when you lie about it? that’s when i feel like something sneaky is happening behind my back and i had to find out through fucking tmz. no one likes tmz, and to see those pictures? it broke me. if you hadn’t lied, i wouldn’t have been mad and we wouldn’t have taken that month long break” you sigh, running a hand through your hair. “okay, your turn”
“i understand how you’re feeling, and i agree. opposite sexed can be friends, you and tom are friends. i didn’t lie because i was doing something sneaky. well, i kind of was” your eyes nearly bug out of your head and he smirks, reaching into his jacket pocket. “i contacted one of my old friends who made jewelery, and she had this made”
chris holds under your hand and you open your palm, chris dropping a ring on your palm. you smile, admiring it and biting your lip softly. “chris..”
“on the inside, it has our initials and the anniversary date of when we started dating 2 years ago. i promise you, sweetheart, i am so goddamn in love with you. every time someone asks about my future wedding, i see you at the end of the aisle. when they ask about my dream home, i see you on the front steps with dodger and barney running around the yard. all of my future, i see you” you chuckle, blinking and wiping away your tears. you look at chris, sniffling. “i’m really, really sorry i lied to you. i didn’t know how you felt about girl friends, and now that i know, i’ll be honest”
“you can always be honest with me, honey. i forgive you” you smile, holding his face and he smiles.
“can i kiss you?” he whispers as he slides the ring on your finger, and you smile and nod. he leans forward, closing the gap and connecting your lips. a long 4 weeks, a whole month, without touching, seeing, or even talking to him.
you heard the tapping of barney’s nails and look at him, where he stole a piece of bacon off of your plate on the table. “hey, barnes!” you scold and chris laughs into your neck, making you giggle, barney panting and barking.

While Tom’s away filming, you take a day to go wedding dress shopping, but you don’t expect Harrison to insist upon coming with you.
Warnings: probably swearing and some sexual themes but that’s it

“You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'cause you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me”
Because You Loved Me, Celine Dion
A/N: this part doesn’t feature tom as much, but don’t worry he’ll be there in the next chapter!!
~~~
In the weeks following the engagement party, you spent a majority of your free time on the phone to Tom, given that he had a break between filming. When you weren’t talking to your fiance (as you so loved calling him that now), you were knee deep in wedding planning with your mum and Nikki. You were incredibly grateful for the both of them, happy that they were so willing to help and give you advice. No official plans were made, not without Tom there (well you did have an official date with the chosen venue reserved now) but just listing all the things you’d need to do was a lot.
“I was thinking we could visit a florist to get some ideas for bouquets and centerpieces.” You said casually to Tom, who was currently on speaker phone, while you folded laundry, setting aside the clothes you wanted to pack to go see him. In just two days, you’d be reunited, and, even if it was just a short trip, you couldn’t be more excited about it.
“I’ll have a couple days off when you’re here so that’ll work.” He replied. Laughing, he asked, “When do we get to the cake part of wedding planning?”
“Probably when you come back home. Floral arrangements are pretty consistent from florist to florist, cakes not so much.” You teased. “Speaking of flowers, I have yet to receive my monthly bouquet.”
You heard him chuckle on the other end of the line, “Give them some time, they’ll be there shortly.”
“They’re coming today?” You questioned, placing a few shirts in your suitcase.
“Yep.”
“You know I’m going to be gone most of the day, right?” You asked, and there was a pause on his end.
“What are you doing today?” He sounded bewildered at the thought of you doing something on a Saturday, as if it was surprising for you to have plans without him.
“Dress shopping.” You laughed.
“Oh,” He paused before realization struck, “Oh, dress shopping as in-“
“Yeah, wedding dress shopping.” You smiled to yourself, thinking of all the endless wedding dress possibilities. You had heard about the feeling of the perfect wedding dress, the one that makes you feel and look like a princess, and you couldn’t wait to experience that clarity. Subconsciously, you began to trace over the engagement ring on your finger in nervous excitement.
“So I guess I can’t ask for pictures of it?” Tom asked, chuckling a little.
You looked over at the clock, your heart dropping as you realized you needed to get ready to leave for your dress shopping appointment. You let out a small sigh, “I should get going.”
“I should too.” He said quietly, “My break was supposed to be over five minutes ago.”
“Tom, you told me you were fine on time!” You exclaimed, worried that he was getting himself in trouble just to talk to you. It wouldn’t be the first time he got told off for it.
“I am fine.” He reassured you. “Now, go find yourself a dress. You’re going to take my breath away, no matter what dress you wear.”
“Go back to set, you cheeseball.” You teased, “I love you, Tom.”
“I love you, too, Y/N.” Tom replied. You heard him make a kissing noise through the phone before the call ended.
With a small sigh, you made your way downstairs, knowing it was already time to go meet your mum, Charlotte, and Nikki at the dress store.
“These came for you.” Harrison called out to you from the kitchen as soon as he heard you come down the stairs.
Smiling, you made your way into the kitchen. Your heart soared as you saw the massive bouquet of red roses with white roses in the middle, forming a white heart, by far the biggest bouquet you’d ever seen in your life. You reached for the card, wanting to read the sweet message Tom had included.
‘Roses aren’t always red, violets technically aren’t blue, I miss you so much darling, I can’t wait to marry you ❤️’
“How cheesy is it this time?” Harrison asked you teasingly.
“It’s not cheesy, it’s romantic.” You argued, grabbing out a couple of vases because there was no way the bouquet could fit in just one.
“How long has he been sending you bouquets like that? It’s got to be over a year.” Your brother inquired as he helped you put them in the vases with some water.
“I think around eighteen months? He started with our two year anniversary.” You beamed.
“Three years later and you’ve still got him wrapped around your finger.” He chuckled.
“Yep, this finger.” You joked, showing off your left ring finger, adorned with the brilliant diamond.
“Mum says you’re going dress shopping today.” He started, and you hummed in agreement. “Can I go?”
“You want to go dress shopping with me?” You asked Harrison in confusion. Out of all the wedding planning that he had helped with so far, you never expected to hear him offer to spend hours with you staring at elegant white dresses.
“Yeah.” He replied with a nod.
“It’s going to be long.” You stated, giving him a way out, but making your way to the front door with him nonetheless, “And very boring. Like venue picking, but worse.”
“You’re really selling the ‘say yes to the dress’ thing.” Harrison chuckled, slipping on his shoes as his way of saying that he was definitely going and nothing you said would change his mind. You knew it was bad luck for the groom to see the wedding dress beforehand, but you didn’t know any superstitions about the brother of the bride seeing the dress; it simply never occurred to you that he’d be so invested in it.
“You’re not just coming to spy on the dress and tell Tom about it, are you?” You questioned as you tugged your shoes on.
“What? No. It’s bad luck.” He shook his head, and you believed him.
After stopping for some coffee, you and Harrison met up with your mum, Charlotte, and Nikki at the first dress shop. Hundreds of dresses lined their elegant white walls and you were questioned by the employees about the various aspects of wedding dresses- neckline, shape, sleeve length, material, shades of white, and even veils. Once you had said “I don’t know” for what was probably the seventh time, they finally let you and your party wander the store in search of dresses for you to try on. It wasn’t long before you were put in a dressing room with five different dresses to try on, each of varying styles.
“Which dress is this?” Nikki called out to you from her spot with the others on the plush cushions, waiting for you to emerge in your fourth dress.
“The one Charlotte picked out.” You answered. Pulling back the curtain, you stepped out in the satin mermaid gown with an unsure look on your face. “I like it, but I don’t think it’s-”
“It’s not the one.” Charlotte cut you off, her nose twisted up in disapproval, “No offense, it doesn’t fit you right.”
“None taken.” You laughed at your sister’s bluntness, returning to the dressing room to switch into another dress.
After another four dresses, you were starting to get a tired headache from the constant white materials getting thrown at you, even some off-white and cream materials. Stripped back down to your undergarments, you were ready to call this store quits and move on to another one.
“Can I be done yet?” You asked with a sigh. When you heard no reply from your family and Nikki, you poked your head out from the side of the curtain to see only Harrison standing there, his head tucked down with his eyes glued to his phone. You grabbed your shoe and threw it over at him, knocking him backwards into the stack of dresses.
“Hey! Watch it!” He exclaimed. Picking up your shoe, he said, “I was looking at places to go for lunch, and they’re out there searching for more dresses. I think Charlotte found a bridesmaid dress she likes.”
You didn’t really pay any mind to his reply as your eyes caught on one of the dresses behind him. “Hey Haz, grab me that dress. The poofy tulle one.”
“You know, when you said this was boring, you weren’t kidding.” Harrison teased, but grabbed the dress from the hanger anyway. He handed it to you, and he also gave you your shoe back as well. You closed the curtain on him and began to change into the new dress. “What about Mediterranean for lunch?”
You froze once you had the dress on all the way. It was a white tulle ball gown with delicate flowers all around the bodice and the gown. The flowers were white with light pink hues, almost the perfect pink hue that you and Tom had decided on for the color scheme.
“Y/N?” Harrison asked when you still didn’t respond.
Pulling the curtain open, you smiled at him nervously, “I think this is the one.”
Harrison’s eyes softened as he took in the dress. An awestruck smile overcame him, and he nodded, “You look like a princess.”
“Really?” Your voice was only just above a whisper. Your heart raced as you looked in the large mirror circling the far side of the room. Doing a little twirl, you felt his words sink in; you really looked and felt like a princess. You turned back to him, “Haz, can I ask you something?”
“Anything.”
You took a deep breath, trying to control your nerves as everything suddenly started to feel more real. “I know you’re the best man and you’ve done so much for me and Tom already, but will you give me away?”
There was a comfortable silence that fell between you two as you looked at him with hopeful eyes. You watched as his icy blue eyes glossed over with tears, and he let go of your hands to pull you in for a tight hug. Quietly, he mumbled, “Of course.”
You held onto your twin brother tightly, fighting back the tears that pricked your eyes. You wouldn’t be where you are today without him; you would’ve never met Tom, if it wasn’t for him. Harrison was always there for you, and you couldn’t think of anyone else to be your biggest support on your wedding day.
“Did we miss something?” Your mother asked, coming back into the room with Charlotte and Nikki. Charlotte was holding onto a soft pink dress with flowers along the hemline. You and Harrison pulled away from each other, and he quickly rubbed his eyes.
“Are you crying?” Charlotte questioned him teasingly.
“No.” He muttered.
“This is the dress.” You smiled, fluffing the skirt a little. Instantaneously, your mother, Charlotte, and Nikki all surrounded you, feeling the dress’s tulle material in awe, complimenting you on how well it fit.
As he stepped back to watch you finalize the wedding dress details, Harrison felt an inexplicable feeling of astonishment overcome him. From all of the wedding planning going around recently, it all felt surreal, but now watching you smile, talking to your mother in a classically gorgeous white dress, he couldn’t hide his happiness. His twin sister is marrying his best friend- that’s nothing he would have expected up until three years ago.
In fact, he can recall the exact moment he realized that you and Tom were simply just meant to be.
It was a Friday in late January 2017, and Harrison was out, having a few drinks with his modeling friends, if he could even call them that. They were all good people, they were funny, but they just weren’t really his kind of people. They were acquaintances at best. He’d much rather be spending his Friday night with the boys, but Harry was out of town with Sam, Tom was on a date, and he didn’t even think to ask what you were up to that evening. Tom hadn’t explicitly said he was on a date, but Harrison could tell; it wasn’t a normal thing for Tom to set up reservations at a restaurant or to buy himself a nice button up.
Harrison drummed his fingers on the table, trying to come up with an excuse to leave the bar. It was far too early in the night for him to say he was tired, and he knew it’d be wrong to come up with some dramatic family emergency lie. Suddenly, a vibrant red dress caught his eye from the corner of the room. His eyes went wide as he took in the sight before him.
Across the room, you and Tom sat in a small corner booth- you, in a red dress that Harrison had never seen before, and Tom in his new, very nice blue shirt. Harrison blinked a few times just to make sure he was seeing things correctly. He thought that maybe you two just happened to run into each other, both of you dressed like you were going on a date, but then he saw you laugh, leaning into Tom.
The table of models burst into obnoxious laughter, bringing Harrison away from his stunned stare. He took a couple more sips of his drink, trying to decide if he continues to suffer through this night or if he just goes and crashes with you and Tom. He couldn’t stop himself before he stood up from his table, grabbed his beer, and, without another word, walked over to you and Tom.
“Haz, what are you doing here?” You asked, all contact with Tom suddenly lost as you two moved apart. Self consciously, you adjusted the low neckline of your dress, and Harrison took a seat besides Tom.
Harrison nodded back to the group of friends that he just abandoned, “They’re boring. What are you two up to?” Acting oblivious to the truth, he drank the rest of his beer with raised eyebrows at you two.
“N-nothing.” Tom said, and you coughed a little. Tom looked at you, his eyes trying to silent ask if he was supposed to tell Harrison what was going on.
“Yeah, nothing. Just sharing some drinks.” You added.
“Ah, okay.” Harrison nodded. He thought about calling you two out for a moment, before deciding against it, “Y/N, is that a new dress? I’ve never seen it before. Did you get it when shopping with Charlotte yesterday?”
“What? No.” You defensively shook your head, but you were a terrible liar when put on the spot like that and both boys could clearly tell.
“And Tom, didn’t you have a date tonight? Or did you just feel like getting a fancy new button up?” He asked. Tom gulped beside you nervously and Harrison looked over at you with his classic shit eating grin, “What’s that look for? I’m just trying to figure out how long you two will sit there and act like you’re not clearly on a date.” At his last word, his eyes shifted over to Tom, narrowing intimidatingly.
Bubbling with embarrassed anger, you kicked your brother underneath the table. You didn’t care if anyone else heard you in the bar, shouting, “Harrison James, you’re the worst!”
“How’d you know?” Tom asked, trying his best to hide his new found fear of Harrison. After all, he had never actually cleared dating you with Harrison since this was your very first date and both of you agreed to keep it secret, just wanting to see how it goes for now.
But the secret was out now.
“This is the best either of you have looked in months.” Harrison just about scoffed, laughing at his friend’s astonishment.
“So you saw that we were on a date and thought ‘gee, I better go interrupt’?” You questioned, bitterness clear in your tone.
“Yeah, and I also truly wanted to escape that lot.” He laughed, “This is much more amusing. How long has this been going on?”
The grin slowly faded from his face as you and Tom both sat there quietly, both of you avoiding looking at each other awkwardly. The lack of response was enough to make him let out an uncomfortable breath.
“You know what?” Harrison stood up from the table, guilt starting to creep in, “Let’s just forget the past ten minutes. I’ll get back to my friends, you two get back to your date.”
You couldn’t get out another word before he left back to his friends. Needless to say, you and Tom had a good rest of the night. Harrison would glance at you two every so often, and he felt his heart soar with happiness as he saw how absolutely content you two were with each other. He knew then that there was only one guy he’d ever let date, and perhaps eventually marry, his sister, and that guy was Tom.
When Tom arrived home after dropping you off, he found himself scared over the talk he’d no doubtedly have to have with Harrison. Ever so awkwardly, Tom tried to ask his friend about if it was okay to date you, but Harrison just shrugged it off.
“It’s okay. Really, mate.” Harrison insisted, wanting to just go to bed and not suffer any longer from this painfully awkward talk.
“Are you sure?” Tom double checked and his friend let out a sigh.
“Yes.” He let out a small sigh. “Look, just, if way down the road, you want to marry her, you better ask me for permission first.”
Tom let out a small laugh. Nodding his head, he replied, “Got it.”
Harrison had meant it jokingly in that moment, but he knew one day he’d be asked that question, and he couldn’t be any happier for you two when Tom finally asked.
As the dress talk continued with measuring tapes and pins suddenly appearing, Harrison busied himself by wandering around the store. It was empty, save for a few employees, but he assumed that was the perk of a celebrity engagement- you could get the store to yourself for a few hours. He found himself in the veil section. He didn’t know there were this many types of veils- all sorted by length and then by cut and then by their accents, but he knew you needed one. With all the focus on the wedding dress, he hadn’t heard anyone speak about the veil.
“Harrison, where’d you go?” Charlotte called out to him from the opposite side of the store. Just as he was going to respond, one veil in particular caught his eye.
The veil was simple, yet long and elegant with a lace trim similar to that of the dress that you had chosen just moments before. And at the top of the veil was a thin band of diamonds, resembling a tiara in a way. Grabbing the veil, Harrison headed back to you and the others.
“Here, try this.” Harrison offered, coming up behind you. You watched him through the mirrors on the wall across from you as he put the tiara in your hair. With the way the veil seemed to flow into your dress, leaving just enough of a train, you knew it was perfect.
Smiling, you took your brother’s hand, squeezing it reassuringly, “Thank you.”
“What can I say? A princess needs her tiara.”
Flowers?
All I have to say is; I’m sorry.
Kudos to @soft-bois-make-me-simp for assisting with the idea. Don’t worry man, we can collab on another story!
Please listen to this while you read this!
There were only three times that Harvey would remember enjoying flowers. He usually wasn’t one for them, not because he was allergic or anything, he just didn’t find the reason to desire them.
Roses are red
The day he first knew he had feelings for you. He always said it was the best day of his life. He will never forget that day; the day you brought him wine on his birthday. You two had occasionally spoken from time to time, but it was really nothing super deep. You had opened up to him about a few things that you hadn’t told anyone else but not super personal. Mostly just little quirks you hated about yourself. He remembered blushing every time as everything you named seemed to be things he liked.
“So, how about a birthday dinner tonight Harv? I’m sure you can’t remember the last time you had a real meal.” You offered.
He was reluctant to answer at first, not wanting to be a bother, but he did hate his current diet and knew he needed to change it up a bit, even if his stomach might not agree with the sudden change from pre-packaged meals to home cooking.
“That...Sounds nice. Thank you.”
And boy was it nice. It was quite obvious you knew that he needed real food because you made more than enough for him just to make sure he had leftovers. He almost felt bad but you had insisted he needed it. You both knew it would be gone tomorrow. You secretly knew, he -- as a man -- had quite the appetite and had held back eating as much as he could with you around.
You left late that night, but left behind some flowers you had grown on the farm. They sat in a vase on the table, right next to his radio equipment.
“Feel free to get a hold of me if you need anything Harvey. Doctors deserve to be taken care of as well.”
Those words never left him. “Doctor’s deserve to be taken care of as well.” You cared about him and actually wanted to make sure he was doing okay. As suspected, you two grew closer after that. He started to become a lot more anxious but never made a move.
What if you only wanted to be friends? That would be super awkward…
Violets are blue
The day you gave him the bouquet, he cried. Never had he felt so relieved and excited at the same time. You like him. No, you loved him. You. The precious farmer.
“A-are you sure? I’m so much older a-and there’s so many oth-”
“Harvey. I’ve made my choice.” You kissed his cheek. “I don’t want anyone else. They just aren’t my type.”
Fifty shades of red his face was. There was no denying that for sure. He was a tomato and a strawberry at the same time.
He’s never hugged you so tight either. Even when you brought the pendant to him (he was more gentle then). He just wished the flowers in the bouquet didn’t wilt. Joys of having live flowers though.
That and every month, you brought him a new bouquet. Not the exact same one, but you had started growing flowers specifically to make bouquets on your monthly anniversaries.
My heart is dead
The bouquets continued, even after marriage. Now, you just added an extra day and made sure the bouquets on your wedding anniversary were extra colorful. It was how you showed him how much you loved him.
He adored this. A lot. It always made his day, even if the day was actual garbage. Coming home to you was always enough to make him happy, but coming home to a bouquet on the table, dinner being cooked, and the sound of you humming...Oh it just made his heart melt. Even after almost five years of it.
They always reminded him of the wedding -- the last time he recalled loving flowers. You had made sure your bouquet was the brightest thing in existence, jokingly saying you wanted the attention to be on that instead of your face. He still scolds you for that. Playfully of course.
I'm such a fool
He couldn’t recall when things started to go downhill. Things had been okay for so long that he didn’t see it at first. He knew you were busy so he never thought much of it when you would come home late.
Until you started coming home drunk.
There were times he would wonder where you were or why you were drinking...But for a while, he didn’t think to ask who you were drinking with. When he found out you and Shane had been growing closer, he got jealous. He knew you wouldn’t leave him, but the anxiety started to build. You were starting to pass out drunk on the way home or you and Shane would fall asleep at the bar.
Of course, he had to confront you about it. Not in a mean way, at least he thought he didn’t.
“It’s not okay for you to be doing that? Do you know how bad that is for you and how bad of an influence he is?”
Wrong answer.
“You don’t even know him. You just cared about making ends meet and didn’t really listen to him.”
Why did I fall for you?
He was grateful you had started to listen to him after that. You came home at night sober, but you began to distance yourself. In fact, you had begun to hang out with everyone but him. You stopped making the bouquets. You stopped giving him gifts. It soon came to a point where he felt like you wanted nothing to do with him. He felt empty and felt he had to make it up to you.
He messed up right? He could fix this...He had to.
I gave it all for you
Dinner every night was a pain, but he did it. He always made sure yours was hot, even when you came home at 1 am. He would be there, taking it out of the microwave. Dishes were always done. The house was always clean and very tidy. Farm was always taken care of. He really worked his ass off to make sure you were happy.
But it wasn’t enough.
You kept pushing yourself further and further from him. It eventually got to the point where you slept on the couch just to avoid him.
It was when he found the letter on your nightstand that he knew there was no fixing this.
So, knowing he wasn’t welcome, he packed his stuff and went back to his apartment above the clinic. Maru, who Harvey had been talking to about everything when things started to go south, helped him get settled back into his old home. She was the one who held him when he cried that night and she was the one who made sure he ate something before bed. She even told him to let her know if she needed to work more at the clinic, not wanting him to be pushed too much.
He was appreciative, but knew his work would be the only thing that would take his mind off of you.
Love around my neck starting to feel like the noose
The words lingered in his head for days. Every sentence filled him with hurt. What had he done wrong? Was he really that boring and unattractive? Should he have just given up at the beginning? Did you ever really love him?
Why did this happen to him?
He lost weight from his loss of appetite. He knew it was unhealthy, especially when people began to notice, but he always said he had started to work a bit harder to get physically fit and the results were starting to show. He didn’t want anyone to know how hurt he really was. Maru knew, and if it weren’t for her, he wouldn’t have eaten.
He numbed himself to relationships of any kind. He once was very close with his patients, now he just saw them as his next visit. Even with Maru. He only saw her as an employee.
All of the lies starting to feel like the truth
He began to drink. He knew it would hurt him more, but his heart hurt all the time. He had no one to turn to when he really needed to talk, as everyone was asleep by then...But not you. You were always awake. He would hear you stumble out of the bar, laughing with at least one other person. You were drunk too, but you got to enjoy your time. He didn’t.
“Why me?”
At the end of the day, bitch, I'm not feeling you
After so long, he began to get used to the sound of you going home drunk. In fact, it worried him when you didn’t.
It started as just one night, no big deal. But then two...three...seven...twelve…
People began to look worried. No one had seen or heard from the town’s dear farmer in nearly two weeks.
The search parties started. Being himself, Harvey made sure to go. Yes, you hurt him, but by God what he would give for you to just run back into his arms and say how much you love him.
You playing with my heart, you made me look like a fool
He hated that he had been the one to find you. There was no doubt in his mind that you were gone; your skin a gray/blue color and flies around you. What killed you, he didn’t know. Only an autopsy would tell him.
At least until he further examined you.
A rather large wound on your abdomen. It was much too big to be treated on your own, but by the looks of it, you had tried to stitch it closed.
...You died because you refused to go to him for help and bled out...
This, a tragedy, it may end up on the news
The funeral was a sad one. It rained that day. Hard. Everyone in town was there too. Everyone. You had grown so close to everyone in your time away from Harvey. They all cared so much about you and our death hit hard.
It was also at the funeral where he realized how bad he had messed up. You hadn’t just been getting closer to Shane, you were getting closer to everyone. They all said a little bit of the stuff you did for them, mostly just helping out with tasks and small favors. You had started staying with Shane at the bar because he talked more when he was drunk and you had started getting drunk with him because it helped him open up. You were just trying to help him.
And Sam. You were helping him learn how to play cooler songs on the guitar and even showed him a couple cool tricks on the skateboard.
Abigail and Pierre had finally begun to form a bit of a stronger bond because you had been helping them talk through their differences.
You had been doing so much and he basically said you were cheating on him.
So, there he stood, watching the casket be lowered into the hole, and then buried. Many tears were shed. Many. Everyone knew the town wouldn’t be the same without you there. Especially Harvey.
At the end of the day, I don't wanna be with you
It rained today too.
“You still looked beautiful that day.” Harvey said softly, arranging the bouquet in his hand. All the flowers were brightly colored. Not as bright as you would have wished, but he was trying his best. “The flowers just enhanced your beauty.”
He stood in front of the tombstone, a large frown on his face. It had been even years since you had passed now, and he wasn’t doing any better. He still cried a lot, but now, it was more just a feeling. He couldn’t bring himself to get over you.
He slowly set the bouquet down against the silver tombstone, making sure you would be able to see it from the heavens.
“Happy Anniversary (y/n). I’m sorry I wasn’t a better husband to you and I’m sorry I wasn’t there to save you.” He slipped his glasses off his face and fell to his knees, letting the tears fall. “I-I’m sorry! I’m sorry I didn’t believe you! I’m sorry I let my feelings take over! I’m sorry I couldn’t trust you! I love you so much!”
Loud sobs left his mouth, his tears blending with the rain as they fell to the ground. His heart, for the millionth time, shattered before him.
“Harvey?” A soft voice asked.
The doctor wiped his eyes and turned his head slightly. At this point, everyone had seen him like this. He didn’t care anymore.
It was none other than Abigail behind him, an umbrella above her head and a spare one at her side.
“Hey, it’s okay. We all miss her.” She said and handed him her spare umbrella. “We’re all worried about you too. You aren’t the same.” She sat beside him. “We all arranged something to help you. Come to the saloon so we can tell you, please.”
Harvey looked to Abigail, and then back to the bouquet. You wouldn't want him to be sad. You hated seeing him cry. Maybe this was a sign from you.
“...O-okay...Thank you...Just, give me another moment. I-I’ll be there.” He mumbled, trying to hold back sobs.
Abigail nodded and stood, letting him have a moment while she told everyone what was going on. Harvey sat there a moment longer, wiping his eyes to rid them of the tears. He sniffed once more before saying the same thing he did every year. The poem you had written for him. Part of it at least. It was a reminder to the both of you that he knew he messed up.
“Roses are red...Violets are blue...My heart is...is dead...I...I’m such a fool…”
The tears came back.
“I’m such a fool.”
pairing: bucky barnes x reader
warnings: tooth rotting fluff, smut (& exhibitionism), wee bit of angst
word count: 9.1k
description: established relationship; you’d met in college, both education majors. you really love bucky barnes, and nearing your five year anniversary when he proposes you go on a coast-to-coast road trip on summer vacation. you seem skeptical and unsure, but he assures you it’s worth it.
Tumblr media
New York City, New York – Mile 0
You hadn’t been serious. Not entirely anyway. Months ago, when you said to Bucky, half asleep, “We should go on a road trip, just you and me.” You remember his raspy voice in reply,
“Oh yeah?” His fingers slowly trailing down your bare spine as you slipped off into sleep.
“Yeah.”
It was something you’d almost forgotten all about until he brought it up five months later.
“Hey, do you think we should rent a car or just take mine?” You were chewing on a pen cap, going over the essays you needed to grade by Monday, a glass of wine by your side. He was sitting across from you, laptop open and a notebook full of different scribbles.
“For what?” You ask, taking a sip of your wine.
“Our road trip.” Like you’d forgotten, like it was something you’d already decided on. You shake your head, confused.
“What road trip?” His brow furrows.
“You said you wanted to go on a road trip.”
“When?” He was silent for a moment, staring at you like you had two heads.
“Christmas… when we were going to bed, you said you wanted to go on a road trip.” He explains simply, “Just the two of us.” You shake your head again.
“I was drunk on Christmas.” As if it explains it away, “We don’t really have the funds to take a road trip across the country, how long would that even take?” Typing a few things into your search bar you sigh, “Two to three months?”
“They went like everywhere,” He defends, “We are just going straight across.”
“I don’t know Bucky…” You sat back in your chair, crossing your arms.
“I’ve been doing the math.” He comes to your side of the table squatting down at your side, “We have more than twice of what we would need in savings, we still have enough to put down on a house next summer.” A kiss to your hand and some puppy dog eyes. “And we will be back in time for Steve’s wedding.” A kiss to your wrist, “C’mon baby, we’re still young, and pretty soon we won’t have time to do stuff like this. We never get to do anything this adventurous, come on.” You sigh, he’s right.
For the last five years you two had been together you were both working full-time jobs and in college. When school ended and you both got jobs you stayed in the shitty studio apartment you’d gotten when you first moved in together on the cheap to save every penny you could towards getting a nice house in the suburbs, something you both desperately wanted whenever the subject of marriage and kids rolled about. Which seemed to be more common lately, more so with both of your parents than with each other.
“You’re not getting any younger.” From both your Mom and his. His younger sister was just starting college and nowhere near continuing the Barnes bloodline, so his Mom was especially needy with you as far as wanting grandchildren. Something you and Bucky had briefly talked about but hadn’t made any real serious strides towards having. Your implant was good for another couple years and it wasn’t a real concern.
“Okay,” You agreed, “We should probably take your car to save some money.” A rental for even a month would be way too much. Bucky grinned, kissing you, again and again.
“It’s going to be so fun.” A kiss. “Really is.” Another kiss. His hand slipping to palm at your breast.
“Bucky I have to grade these essays.” He shrugs.
“Grade ‘em tomorrow.” A tweak of your nipple, his mouth sinking down to your neck, a well-practiced weak spot that never failed to make you shiver.
“Bucky.” You whined, fingers coming to grip his shoulders.
“C’mon baby.” You were weak for it. Played right into his hands and he knew it. You were such a sucker.
The last day of classes came faster than you thought, the morning after, bright and early you were getting ready to hit the road. Bucky had let you over plan a little if only to satisfy yourself and solidify the fact that you wanted to go on this trip. Almost 4,000 miles. The road ahead of your seemed daunting but he liked to remind you,
“We have all summer; we don’t need to rush.” Which means if you need to stop for the night, then you needed to stop for the night, but the goal was to drive as close to each major destination as you could before looking for a room at a nearby hotel or motel. Whatever seemed more convenient. You’d packed one large suitcase between the two of you and a bag of snacks and drinks for the times where you couldn’t reach a gas station or got uncontrollably snacky and bored.
“Please don’t forget to water our plants.” You begged the blond. Steve seemed a little done with it.
“I won’t forget to water the plants.” He was going to forget, he was beautiful, but endlessly forgetful. You sigh, stepping into his open arms and hugging him. “You guys be careful, if you run into any trouble just give me a call.”
“We’re going to be fine.” Bucky took his friend into a hug after you released him, “We’ll let you know when we get to DC.” The first stop on the trip.
“Have fun! Try not to kill each other!” You roll your eyes, slipping into the passenger seat and plugging your phone in, getting the GPS set up. Bucky slipped into the driver’s seat, grasping your hand and laying a kiss on your palm.
“You ready baby?” You smile excitedly,
“Yeah, I’m ready.” Your little notebook in your lap. A polaroid camera for the aesthetic. A picture developing on your lap that you’d gotten Steve to take of the two of you in front of the car before leaving. The first stretch wasn’t very long. Just about four hours with mild traffic, but you knew with it would be closer to six, but once you were out of the North East the roads would open up at least for a little while.
You hit traffic trying to get out of the city almost immediately which is why you liked Bucky driving. Driving in the city was always stressful and you rarely ever had to do it, you’d never gotten that NYC aggression and seeing as he learned how to drive on these streets you let him take the first leg. You’d switch with him most likely somewhere in New Jersey, probably before you hit Delaware.
“Aren’t you excited?” He asks you. You had to admit, seeing him so giddy and excited about something further enforced the excitement you had been feeling about this trip. You’d never been anywhere further than the North East, once you broke free of DC you’d be in uncharted territory and it did excite you.
“Of course, I am.” You smiled at him, he leaned over the center console to kiss you, a loving sweet kiss interrupted by a loud honk from the man behind you, the light was green.
Washington, DC – Mile 233
“Okay, smile.” Bucky snapped a picture of you standing in front of the National Mall, the Washington Monument tall in the background. The day stayed bright and sunny. With the plan of hitting a museum before dinner, the two of you arrived around lunch time, stopping to grab some food before parking the car and walking around on foot.
You’d snapped a couple pictures of him on your phone while he’d been talking to his Mother during lunch, which you scrolled through while you walked to the next destination. The Smithsonian. The Natural History museum that had currently been doing an exhibit on the late Stan Lee. Something Bucky was excited about.
Copies of old prints. Videos of Stan Lee himself, Jack Kirby, and Steve Ditko. A bunch of first editions in plexiglass containers. His favorite, however, was the character his parents named him after. A life replica of the suit he wears in the comics on display. You took a couple pictures of him with it, sending them onto the group chat you had with him and his family.
His hand was in yours walking through more exhibits, both of you aimlessly walking up to different displays and stopped at the little gift shop for Bucky to look at some exclusive merch they had for the Stan Lee exhibit, including a paperback book about Stan Lee and a large exhibit book with detailed explanations about everything you’d just seen.
“Did you want to drive tonight?” Bucky asked while you were grabbing coffee, “Or do you want to find a room?” You playfully shove him, he playfully shoves you back.
Later your back would find the soft hotel mattress, giggling and a little drunk from the multiple drinks had at dinner. The hum of his lips against yours, fingers plucking on your strings, gentle moans and a hand pressed against the headboard as it smacks against the wall in a steady rhythm.
It was nice. This vacation was nice. And much needed after wrangling teenagers all day.
“I love you so much.” You moan against his mouth, the grind of his hips against yours making your eyes roll in the back of your head. His fingers laced in yours.
You knew that you and Bucky had a good relationship. It’s always been stable and nice and good. You love him and you know he loves you. You’ve never had to question that. Your last relationship, seemed like so long ago now, wasn’t that great. Time never made for each other, a great lack of communication, just being young adults and drinking too much at parties and screaming at each other in the car.
When you met Bucky it was an instant attraction. He was charming, sweet. He’d brought you snacks in the library and helped you study for your history exams. Currently, he was still slowly working towards his Doctorate, wanting to eventually teach at the college you’d both attended. But back then you’d moved in together almost instantly. Not just because the relationship came so easily, but because of finances as well.
Money was a little less tight when someone was sharing the bills with you.
Yeah, you had your arguments. Someone leaves their dishes next to the sink instead of in it. Someone keeps putting off taking out the trash. Someone doesn’t make the bed in the morning. Someone leaves their dirty socks next to the hamper than inside it. But they were small things. Things you could both try to do better. And you have.
Another thing all together was the sex.
You were never someone who said the sex had to be good right away. It takes time to learn someone’s body and really figure out what someone likes and what they don’t like. And while the sex has definitely improved over the years, he knew how to make you cum in less than two minutes and was very proud of that fact, your first sexual experience with each other had his head under your skirt in a dark corner of the school library like you were a Victorian royal canoodling with a servant.
You were red about it for days, thinking about how hard you came on his tongue almost caught by another student looking for records for their thesis. The grin on his face for a week afterward as he enjoyed the hastily decided exhibitionism.
It grew from there.
Bucky loved the fear of getting caught, it was one of his favorite things. You couldn’t even really remember everywhere the two of you had sex of some kind. And when you’d had your second pregnancy scare you decided to get the little implant you still have now.
“I love you so fucking much.” That grind. You loved it and he knew it. He would have your knees hooked over his arms, resting in his elbows, he would be deep, brushing your cervix and grinding his hips against yours, pubic bone grinding on your clit. Your nerve endings on fire. “So fucking wet.” Around him. You could feel his cock throb inside of you and you knew how badly he wanted to move, but he wanted you to beg him for it more.
And you would.
Always.
Your leg was over his thigh at breakfast. Sitting at the bar top of the little diner. “So I think today will just be driving.” Over a piece of toast, “I think it’s like… 10 or 11 hours.” So you’d probably get there just in time to get some sleep. He nods, taking a bite out of his omelet, his thumb brushing your thigh. You were scrolling through your phone. His fingers playing with the hem of your shorts.
“Do you want to drive first?” He asks, “Or do you want me to?”
 Nashville, TN – Mile 890
The road to Nashville cut through the mountains. Music blasting and windows down, you snapped pictures as Bucky traversed the winding roads that were mostly empty aside from shipment trucks and the occasional other car also travelling to some unknown destination. It was gorgeous out there.
“Could you imagine living out here?” You asked him as you spot a cabin mixed in among the trees on the side of the mountain not too far in the distance. He had his sunglasses on, his hair a little grown out and longer than he usually kept it was whipping around his face.
“Absolutely not.” He laughed. The city boy, through and through, you’d really struggled over deciding where you’d like to buy a house when the two of you decided to actually start saving. He wanted to buy an apartment first, but then a debate of what would be more realistic, what would give them enough living space for what they would be paying. There was a period of time where all you looked at were the pretty brownstones you knew you couldn’t afford, but once the two of you reeled it in and really looked you decided to move closer to where Bucky would be working as a professor.
“It’s bad enough you have me moving to New Jersey.” He laughs. But it was all a jest, he wanted to work for Rutgers in New Brunswick. It was where both of you went to college, after all.
“We should go camping.” You take a picture as you cross a bridge, capturing the rippling mountain water.
“You would hate camping.” He shakes his head, “You went to summer camp for a week in fifth grade and told me it was the worst experience of your life.” You sit back in your seat glaring at him.
“Maybe it would be different now that I’m an adult,” You offer, “And the only reason why it was horrible in the first place is because night one the girls said the cabin was haunted and then I just couldn’t sleep for the rest of the week.” Those little bitches. Bucky full belly laughs, the haunting of the girl was also on top of you getting a UTI and seeing a family of bears roam about outside one day so you couldn’t go outside.
“We are not going camping.” You huff but don’t answer because you know he was right; you’d hate camping.
“I don’t even remember the last time we had McDonald’s.” You say while dipping three fries into your small dipping cup of sauce.
“After finals.” It wasn’t as good as you remember it being, but you’d also gotten a salad to split as well. Not being able to quite justify eating strictly burgers and fries. Bucky’s memory was a steel trap, unlike his blond best friend. Bucky could easily recall events, almost in striking detail which really sucks when you promised to go do something and wanted to act like you forgot, he could tell you exactly when you said it.
Like drunk on Christmas when you say you should take a road trip, although this wasn’t a half bad idea.
“You got a 20-piece nugget.” He continues, “You ranted for the entire night about how they only gave you three sauces for 20 nuggets.” A history major who had great memory recall. Tests were very easy for him. The bastard. You used to be so jealous.
“Sounds like something I would do.” You laugh.
Nashville was dark when you’d arrived. Downtown thriving with noise and pedestrians as you drove around, tired, while Bucky looked at local hotels. You’d found a decent one for cheap not too far from where you’d been driving and as soon as that hotel room door shut you slipped into bed. Waking slightly when Bucky slipped into bed behind you, pulling you into his chest. The little wet strands of his hair tickling your cheek as he pressed a kiss there, falling back under.
The Parthenon. A life size replica of the one in Greece. A polaroid or two there. Nashville was gorgeous. Aside from the main city were little outlying towns with walkable shopping and a ton of little restaurants and local coffee shops.
You take a sip of your iced coffee, giving Bucky an odd look as he looks at a wall of cowboy boots. “You’re not buying those.” He turns and gives you a playful glare. “Babe, they’re $300, no. You would never wear them.”
“Maybe I’m going to make them a staple of my closet.” He shrugs, “That’s what that girl you watch says right, make something a staple and work your other clothes around it?”
“She doesn’t mean $300 cowboy boots.” You laugh. “You’re never going to wear those.”
“I could though.”
“But you won’t.”
You’d gone and enjoyed the city, hit a couple breweries and had bar food before doing a little tour of the Grand Ole Opry and walked around the Opry Mills Mall before grabbing dinner. The restaurant had line dancing and pretty decent barbecue. But the one drink they had, some sort of peach and whiskey, went down a little too smooth. And poor Bucky who hadn’t drank quite as much, was propping you up on his shoulder as you stumble down the street back to your hotel.
“We should go to an actual bar,” You whine. “I’m not tired.” You stumble, his arm wrapping around your waist a little tighter.
“You are tired,” He laughs, “Your bedtime was two hours ago.” You stick your tongue out at him but try to keep step. You’re sure he slowed down from his usual long strides for you.
“We are on vacation,” Another whine, “We can stay out late.”
“Baby everything is closing,” He tries to reason, “It’s 2 am.” You gaze around the area you’re in. Stragglers, barely anyone around. It was a weeknight after all.
“But I don’t wanna go back to the room.” He gives you a look, stopping in the street and backing you up against the wall, capturing your mouth against his, his hips grinding against yours. “Bucky…” A whine against his mouth.
“You don’t want to go back to the room right?” It was a darker corner, the streetlight not quite reaching. His fingers unbuttoned your shorts, slipping his fingers into your panties to stroke at your clit. A moan muffled into his mouth. You could feel how hard he was on your thigh. Your mind frazzled and swimming in alcohol still, hand gripping his wrist as his fingers prod your opening, thumb continuing to move in tight practiced circles on your clit. Your legs were trembling as his face pulled away from yours. His forehead resting against yours, eyes connected. “You’re gonna cum for me, aren’t you baby?”
Fuck. “Yes.” A whine for a different reason this time, his fingers entering you and immediately stroking your g-spot. Your thighs clamping around his hand as you cum, your loud moan muffled by him capturing your mouth. He worked you through your aftershocks before pulling you tightly into his body, massaging the back of your neck, licking your taste off his fingers.
“C’mon baby,” He kisses you again, “Let’s go to bed.”
New Orleans, LA – Mile 1,422
Your head was pounding, eyes closed with a water bottle pressed to your skull. The music soft in the background while Bucky, bless him, offered to take the first leg of the driving. The eight-hour drive that you were sure would take about nine. He was an angel running into the gas station while you pumped the gas to grab you water and medicine for your headache. While not at all laughing about how you fell flat on your ass into the hotel room and begging him to kiss what was now a bruise on your hip and left ass cheek.
“I can’t believe I drank that much.” You groan, taking a sip of your water.
“I can’t believe you drank that much.” Humor in his voice. The asshole. You napped for the first hour or two, before Bucky began to get antsy. Shifting in his seat, trying to stretch his legs out.
“I can drive.” You mumble, coming out of your nap. “I just need my sunglasses.” His hands tightened on the wheel,
“I could probably go another hour or so.” He says. You roll your eyes,
“Next gas station, we’ll switch.” A sip from your water bottle, “You’re obviously uncomfortable.”  He grumbles under his breath, but does it anyway, stepping from the car somewhere in Alabama. He stretches and you swear you could hear a couple pops in his spine. After grabbing a couple snacks and some coffee from the gas station you were back on your way, feeling a little more alive than you had previously.
The music a little louder, Bucky pulled out the book he’d gotten at the Smithsonian, the windows cracked. You made it back on the road and towards your destination still 7 hours long.
When you’d been planning this road trip Bucky decided to make a bunch of playlists on his phone, each supposedly for a different kind of mood, but they all sounded quite the same to you. All but one which was just labeled ‘XXX’ and had such hits as ‘Pony’ by Ginuwine and ‘Sex with Me’ by Rihanna. Which is strange because you’d never had a sex playlist normally, but suddenly he thinks you need one to play on speaker on his phone next to the bed in hotel rooms.
The one he had playing originally was something mellow, without lyrics. Thoughtful to your raging hangover, but you needed something to focus on. Something you could sing, badly to, but sing to keep yourself from going crazy on a stretch of highway you felt like you’d been on forever. Which you kind of were. It was one straight highway for the entire 533 miles it would take to get you from Nashville to New Orleans. That little pitstop just dipping you off the exit and then putting your right back on.
It was brain numbing honestly and you tried to go as long as possible before switching back. Bucky had fallen asleep sometime an hour or so after you started driving, book folded over his thumb and seat tilted back.
You felt bad. You kept him up so late last night and then he’d let you sleep in while he got ready. Bringing you breakfast and coffee and waking you up slowly. You thought back to him in the hotel room, the soft kisses and whispers. He’d gotten you in the shower with the bribe of giving you a massage after, which he did. You glance at him in the rearview, his arm thrown over his eyes. You could go a little longer.
The first thing the two of you did getting into New Orleans was stop for a drive thru daiquiri before finding what hotel you’d be staying in for the night.
Bags down you sip on the strawberry liquor slush, sinking into the sheets of the hotel room. “Take it easy.” Bucky laughs, stealing it from you and taking a sip. “Don’t want a repeat of last night.” You stick your tongue out at him and he leans over and kisses you, your fingers moving to tug on his belt loop, pulling him over to the bed. Sitting up you continue to kiss him, beginning to palm him through his jeans.
“Thank you for taking care of me.” Mumbled against his lips as you begin to work on his belt. “I really appreciate it.” Looking up at him through your lashes as you free him from his briefs. His breath catches as your cool tongue licks the tip, mouth stained red. Wide and flat against his head. Tapping it on your tongue before circling around the tip and sucking it into your mouth, his fingers twisting in your hair, not pushing but just holding.
You drip spit down on his cock, using your hand to spread it down his length before sucking him back in your mouth, beginning to bob your head to meet your stroking hand. Your other hand moving below to fondle his balls.
You watch his head fall back, a gasp as his fingers tighten in your hair. You feel the spongey tip of him brush the back of your throat, holding yourself there for a moment before pulling off and stroking him root to tip. He bent over meeting your mouth, kiss passionate and lusty. When you part you sink your mouth back onto him, moaning.
His hips gently thrust into your face, you know he’s getting close, his breaths coming out in short pants, the barely there thrust of his hips when he’s craving more friction you oblige to, speeding up your movements and you gently tug on his balls.
“Fuck, I’m gonna cum baby.” His head tossing back and a groan as he begins to empty himself into your mouth. You work him through his aftershocks, his hips giving one true thrust right at the end before you swallow. His mouth meeting yours in a satisfied hum.
You went to the French Quarter for dinner. A place with a live jazz band and good food. The atmosphere unmatched. The French Quarter was much less of a drunken mess than Bourbon Street itself, that beast to be tackled a different night. You had a little bit of a pregame with those daquiri slushes before dinner. Buzzed and comfortably riding it throughout. You’d sipped on a rum and coke while listening to the jazz. Just enjoying the night. Tired from driving but satiated from the food. Your hand rubbing your belly you were so full.
“I love you.” His fingers twisting in the stray hairs that fell from your clip. You smile at him, leaning over and pressing a kiss to his lips.
“I love you too.”
You stayed mostly sober while he drank on Bourbon Street. You let him sing horrible karaoke at Cat’s Meow and drug him away from his forced politeness with about six other woman and at least five men. And you let him lean on you and babble while you waited for the uber back to your hotel.
“You’re so fuckin—hiccup—pretty.” Wet on your ear, slobbering and you laugh. “Like so fuckin pretty.” His mouth sloppy on your cheek.
“You’re going to have a hell of a hangover tomorrow.” And it would be your turn to take care of him.
That day had been really nice, a little rainy but you’d gotten beignets and coffee at Café Du Monde and bought a pack of the beignet mix and coffee cup to bring home. You’d seen the Madame LaLaurie house which you were sure you’d be talking to Peggy about later, you’d walked around Jackson Square in the light drizzle and even made your way to walk around Audubon Park. You’d been surprised when Bucky said he wanted to go drink on Bourbon Street seeing as you’d been up for a while, but you obliged and now you were rubbing his back as he told you he was nauseous, his arms wrapped around the toilet bowl.
“I don’t feel good.” He blubbers.
“I know baby.” The tile was cold, hard, and uncomfortable. He gagged. And you sigh, wondering if you should just help him throw up so he would feel better. But he finally vomited. You got him cleaned up, helped him brush his teeth. Fed him some water and helped him out of his clothes. His arms wrapped around your waist as he sat on the edge of the bed. Mumbling words you couldn’t understand as you tried to pull his shirt off. His pants long discarded.
“C’mon baby.” You tug on the shirt stuck in his armpits. His arms weakly lift from your body, letting you lift the shirt off him and laying him under the covers. His fingers twisting in your shirt, “I’ll be right back.” In the bathroom you quickly wipe up the toilet, flushing the extra mess and grabbed the trash can, bringing it out to his side of the bed and resting it on the floor near his head, his arm hanging off the bed and already snoring.
The next day when you were eating breakfast, he drank heartily on a Bloody Mary, trying to get the hair of the dog and feel more alive.
“I can’t believe you let me drink that much.” A groan over fried green tomatoes. You roll your eyes,
“I didn’t… the guys buying you shots when my back was turned did.” It was a laugh really, how Bucky wouldn’t realize someone was flirting with him. So out of touch from being in a relationship, Bucky had been quite the charmer when you first met but had a really hard time noticing when someone else was flirting altogether. A marvel, but it’s true.
“But they were so nice.” He reasoned making you laugh.
“They really were.”
San Antonio, TX – Mile 1,965
Another 543 miles, which 541 were spent on the same road. Honestly it was probably the worst part. Driving in mostly a straight line for hours with long stretches of road in between each stop. But that’s how this part of the country was. It was hotter down here for sure, or maybe just because you were getting deeper into summer.
San Antionio was sweltering, you could feel your shirt sticking to your back as you took in the air conditioning of the hotel lobby you were currently in. The electronic keycard slipped across the counter to Bucky while you waited a step behind before shifting your bag back on and following him to the elevator.
The hotel was a lot like every other hotel, but the only thing you were really worried about now was the shower. Bags dropped and the small toiletry case in hand you slipped into the shower, letting the water run a little cold to cool you off before turning it a little higher to be more comfortable. You can hear Bucky enter the bathroom, the shower curtain being pulled back as he entered behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist and dragging you back into his body. Just holding you for a minute.
“Are you okay?” He asked. Pressing a kiss to your cheek.
“Yeah, I think I just need some alone time.” You hadn’t talked much during the drive from New Orleans to San Antonio. You were used to getting time apart from each other. Not that you didn’t like spending time with him, but sometimes you just wanted to be alone and right now you were getting that itch. He hums, his arms tightening for a moment more before pressing a kiss to the crown of your head.
“After the shower, why don’t you take a nap before dinner, hmm?” He reached over grabbing the soap, “I’ll go grab us dinner and bring it back,” beginning to wash, “We can eat in the room tonight, sleep in tomorrow?”
“That would be nice.” You’d finished your shower, slipped into comfortable clothes and flipped through the local channels on the tv, finding something for background noise as Bucky left the room.
You would get like this sometimes.
Bucky was always a little more adventurous. Back in college you probably wouldn’t have done half the things you did if it weren’t for him. He was far more outgoing; he had more friends. He was always dragging you out of first your dorm, and then your shared apartment. He didn’t need the alone time like you did and at first he was a little hurt by it.
Like you didn’t want to spend time with him, and it wasn’t that. You just needed a little bit of time to yourself to just be on your own and decompress a little. But he kind of knew when you needed it now. When you got a little quiet. When you needed a little space. And he found himself enjoying the time that you spend apart. You were sure he was enjoying his little walk,
“I get to kind of quiet myself a little bit.” He told you, “I always feel like I’m going all the time.” There were often times where you’d spend time together in the same room just not talking, a comfortable silence as you watched tv and he graded papers or just laying in bed reading next to each other. You felt like you didn’t deserve him sometimes.
He always catered to your social anxiety and your stress and you try to do the most you can for him, but there’s always that fear of it not being enough. Like maybe you’d wake up one day and he’d decide that it just wasn’t a good fit anymore.
What would you even do then?
A quick nap, only thirty minutes or so. Then you lay there a little bit, listening to the tv ramble on some sitcom you didn’t recognize. You hear Bucky come in, a paper bag of food in his arms, your eyes meet his and he smiles.
You didn’t deserve him.
“I found this food truck,” He sets down the two glass bottles of soda on the little table in the room. “The guy who runs it, his family used to own a restaurant here in San Antonio, but they were shoved out of business by this fucking corporate bastard who wanted the space for fucking condominiums, kept raising his fucking rent until he couldn’t afford it anymore.” A kiss to your lips, “How was your nap?”
“That’s terrible.” Your hand on his back as you sit at the table, him across from you. “It was good, I think I needed that.” He starts laying out the food. Tacos, empanadas, a little container of radish and limes. Extra cilantro. Little sauce cups of spicy salsa. A hot container of grilled peppers and cactus. A small container of extra rice. “This looks really good, thank you.”
He brings your hand up to his lips, kissing it. “Are you okay?” He asked, biting into the empanada sprinkled with queso fresco. You nod, massaging his arm before digging into the tacos.
“Yeah baby, I’m okay.”
You had to see the Alamo, obviously. The big limestone building that was pivotal in the Texas Revolution and was now a history museum. But you were more excited for the river walk. Not far from your hotel a bunch of small restaurants and shops, very touristy and brightly lit, but beautiful on the San Antonio River. Tomorrow would be the Japanese Tea Garden and the Natural Bridge Caverns, but you always liked a relatively easy day right after travelling.
You found yourself really looking at him for the first time in a long time. The little wrinkles by his eyes when he smiles that weren’t there five years ago. How often he licked his lips. How often he caught you looking at him. You were sure you looked lovesick. You found yourself resting your head on his shoulder a lot. Your hand in his as you walked around, the steady motion of his thumb moving across your hand a soothing balm for your growing anxiety.
“What’s going on?” He’d ask you later. “You’ve been really affectionate today.” His hands around your waist in the elevator heading up to the hotel room.
“I just love you, that’s all.” His hands moving to cup your face, thumbs brushing your cheeks.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” You meet his kiss, humming against his lips. The elevator doors ding and you walk to your room,
“I just want to sleep.” You hear him sigh behind you as you begin to get changed.
“No, what’s wrong?” Sitting on the edge of the bed, looking at you as you changed into your sleep shorts and tank top. His hand reaching out to yours and dragging you into his lap, your legs on either side of his, you wrapped your arms around his neck. “C’mon baby talk to me.” You felt silly.
“I just… feel like I don’t deserve you.” A laugh in his chest that made you feel dumb.
“I’m sorry baby,” His arms squeezing you a little tighter, “I didn’t mean to laugh.” His fingers tracing your spine. “I feel like I don’t deserve you sometimes, you’re always so patient with me. You pack my lunch for me every day.” He laughs, “You do cute things like bring me coffee when I’m studying or make me those amazing chocolate peanut butter cookies during finals. You know I love you,” He pulled back, your face coming from resting on his shoulder, his hand coming up to cup your jaw, brushing his thumb across your bottom lip. “I think we both like to take care of each other, there’s nothing wrong with that baby, you always take care of me so I try really hard to take care of you.”
“How are you so perfect?” A hum as you meet his lips, soft and sweet.
“How are you so perfect?” He falls back against the bed, dragging you down with him, his hand still rubbing your back. You softly kiss him and close your eyes, finding comfort in laying on his chest. “I think this trip was a really good idea.”
Four Corners Monument – Mile 2,936
“How could you have not checked that we were low on gas?” You were trying to not be angry. You were really trying not to be angry, but when there’s desert on either side of you it’s kind of hard not to be. It was sweltering and no gas also meant no AC.
“I checked our gas at the last stop,” Bucky was in the same boat, hands on his hips, “I think— “he sighs, “Maybe the gas gauge is broken.” You groan in frustration, stepping away from the car and pulling out your phone.
“Can you get a signal?” To call his AAA. A moment or two of him on the phone, before he hung up and turned to you.
“They said about two hours.” You huff, sitting down in the passenger seat, door open and arms crossed. You’d woken up extra early to make this 15-hour drive. You kicked at the hard ground with the sole of your sneaker, trying to calm down while Bucky paced a little.
“I knew we should have rented a car.” You glare at him from your seat.
“If you wanted to rent a car why would you ask me if we should take your car or not?” He didn’t answer. “Don’t blame me for this.” A sigh,
“I’m blaming myself.” A kick to his tire, “I’ve had this car for ten years now, we shouldn’t have taken it.” You worry your bottom lip, checking the time on your phone.
“If you knew we shouldn’t have taken it, why did we?” You didn’t mean for this to turn into an argument. But it somehow turned into a screaming match on the abandoned stretch of road. Not even over important things, things so insignificant like how he’d been taking his shoes off in the car and the stink of that or how you smacked your gum out of boredom. The heat leading the two of you to just explode for no good reason.
Two long strides, that is what was between the two of you. That’s all it took for him to grab you tightly and crush you against his chest, mashing your lips together. You moan into his mouth, fingers tangling in his hair for a harsh tug. Your back hit the side of the car, his fingers fumbling with the button of your shorts, tugging them open and roughly dipping his fingers into the wet heat between your thighs. Two fingers circling your opening before slipping inside and stroking your walls, thumb rapid on your clit.
Your hands fumble with his belt, your legs already shaking as you stroke his length, hot and hard in your hand. He removes his fingers from your now aching sex, “I need you so bad.” Shorts and panties shifted down on your hips, stuck on your knees, he turns you around pressing you to the car, feet kicking your legs open and you could feel his tip prod your entrance.
With one thrust he was home, his hips slapping against yours furiously, your hand drifting own between your thighs to strum on your clit, the pleasure growing. His hand rips yours away, replacing it with his.
“God you’re so fucking good.” Hot on you ear, “So fucking good baby.” That stretch and burn of him, on top of the practiced fingers on your clit brought you over almost immediately. A moan ripping from your lungs, as your clit became overbearingly sensitive. Your hand met his between your legs, trying to stop the steady motions, but he wouldn’t. His other hand left your hip and wrapped around your throat, dragging your back to his chest. “You’re gonna cum for me again.”
You were a mess, whining as two of his fingers slipped into your mouth and pressing down on your tongue, eyes rolling back in your head as you felt yourself gush around his cock. His hips giving a half a dozen sloppy thrusts before he moaned into your neck, emptying himself inside you. You catch your breath against him before your mind unscrambles and you realize that you’ve got cum dripping down your thighs in the middle of the desert.
“I think we needed that.” He pressed a soft kiss to your cheek before wiping his cum off your thighs with a tissue, bundling it up and tossing it into the plastic bag you’d been using for trash and tying it.
You snort, buttoning your shorts, “Always the romantic.” He grins, taking a sip out of a water bottle before passing it to you.
“It’s warm.” He warns. You scrunch your nose, taking a sip of the warm water, sweat dripping down your back.
“How much longer?” He checks his phone and looks at you with a defeated expression.
“An hour.” You had to change your shorts.
“This is it?” Just a pavilion, one on each side of the square and the little circular concrete stepping area and a large plaque on the ground. He’s laughing, the stress of everything that just happened ending in this.
“You can be in four states at once.” You shrug.
Grand Canyon Village, AZ – Mile 3,165
It was busy and a little crowded at the Grand Canyon. Which was kind of to be expected. A lot of people taking pictures with their families and couples taking pictures much like you’d been planning to. But the view.
It took your breath away.
You’d seen different environments on this trip that before you’d never been exposed to. The North East was heavily wooded, and everything was tightly packed together. Having lived in New Jersey and then NYC it was very much the same. You marveled at the mountains on your way to Nashville and when you first hit actual desert you pulled the car over to take a real look. The swamps and muggy weather in New Orleans you hadn’t gotten enough time to explore, but the first time seeing Spanish Moss was unreal.
But this was something else entirely.
Bucky caged you in against the metal gate keeping you from getting to the edge, his chest to your back and rested his head on your shoulder. “This is incredible.” He agreed.
You snapped a picture on your polaroid.
And probably about a dozen pictures of the two of you together. A nice couple from Idaho even took a picture on his phone and one on the polaroid and in return you took their picture and gifted them a polaroid of themselves.
You’d left around dinner time. Ordering in and spending the night in the room after shoving your laundry in the hotel laundry room.
“We’re only eight hours away.” You grin. “Eight more hours until we are at the Pacific.” It feels unreal that you’re almost to the opposite end of the country, but whenever you pulled up the map on your phone that’s where it showed you.
Driving had been getting a little more difficult the closer you got to your destination. You were just itching to just get there already and you were not excited for the drive tomorrow. You hadn’t touched the bed yet, still covered in a thin layer of dust, you could feel it between your toes, but the hunger led you towards eating the sandwich and salad combo from the shop the two of you ordered from before getting into the actual shower.
You sigh, fingers tangled in Bucky’s hair. His mouth attached to your clit in a gentle suck. One hand drifting up to play with your nipple, rolling it between his fingers. Your hips grind against his face. “Fuck, I’m gonna cum.” Almost, almost. His hand was fisting his cock the heat of it making your toes curl, cumming on his tongue. A few more quick tugs had him spilling over the tile. The best thing about hotel bathrooms was the water never went cold. Still hot and steamy as he pressed a kiss to your hip before standing. You bury your face in his neck, wrapping your arms around him as he pulled you close.
A soft rock side to side under the stream.
God you fucking love him.
Driving was honestly a hassle. You couldn’t go more than two hours without wanting to switch or stop, which as you grew closer and closer to California you began to see more houses and more people on the road around you.
His hand on your thigh as you finally crossed the California border, feeling a little more positive about finally getting to the end of the road before having to turn around.
Anaheim, CA – Mile 3,643
You read about California traffic, but it was unreal in person. The car hadn’t moved in a good five minutes you’re sure. How is this even possible? The gridlock because you’d taken an extra hour at lunch and gotten to California around rush hour.
“That was a mistake.” You sigh, rubbing your eyes. “We should have just hit a drive thru.” He rubbed your thigh affectionately.
“Doesn’t matter now,” He laughs, “We’ll get there.” You know he’s right, but you still feel a little string of irritation with yourself for not just pushing through a little more. “Are you excited?” He’s grinning, a squeeze on your leg.
“I’m very excited.” And you were. There was so much you wanted to see in California. And you both specifically set aside money to spend a day or two at Disneyland having gone to Disney World with both of your families before. Your Mom being a little obsessed, you were going to have to bring her back something for sure.
You had to get In-N-Out. That was a given. You’d almost stopped for it back in Tuscon but reasoned that you had to wait until California. “This is so good.” Bucky picked up some fries you had to order ‘animal-style’ just because it was an option. And it was so good.
“This was worth it.” Over a mouth of burger. Bucky nods,
“So worth it.”
Your toes dipped into the ocean. A hot and beautiful day. Bucky sat back a couple feet laid out on a blanket. You look back on him, propped up on his elbow, smiling at you. The water was warm, and it was unreal that it wasn’t actually green. At the Jersey shore the water is green from all the algae. But not here. It was actually blue.
His arms wrap around your waist, walking you both deeper into the water. The waves rocking gently over your bodies. The sun hot on your skin.
“This was so worth it.” Your legs around his waist in the water, his finger’s toying with your swimsuit bottoms. “Don’t.” Stern. It makes him laugh.
“Don’t what?” Fingers brushing on your labia through your swim bottoms.
“Bucky…” A harder press directly against your clit. Your eyes looking on the shore. “Stop.” Dragging yourself away from him you made him laugh harder, treading water to get back onto the sand, tossing a playful glare over your shoulder. “Pervert.”
A polaroid of the gate, Disneyland.
“The castle is small.” He says. Main Street similar to Disney World itself, but the castle was noticeably smaller than Cinderella’s castle in Orlando. But it was just as magical and just as expensive. You split a hand dipped corn dog and ate dole whip in the afternoon between rides.
It was a fun, but tiring day and left you both a little sunburnt on your nose and cheeks. You’d slept in the next day, barely able to pull yourself out of bed and your legs were sore from walking about ten miles yesterday. You UberEats breakfast to the room, well… lunch. And watched the weather forecast while trying to decide what to do that day, settling down on going to the Santa Monica pier seeing as the day was already half gone.
Bucky began acting a little strange halfway through your stay in California. He seemed anxious and more fidgety than usual. But every time you asked him about it, he shrugged it off as having too much caffeine or just being really excited to be going to go see the Hollywood sign or stopping by the Cecil Hotel, “Just to see it.”
It wasn’t until the night before you were going to start making your way back did you discover the reason why.
Sitting on the trunk of his car, facing the ocean. The food truck where you’d just had fish tacos and chips with guac off to your right, the only real light as you watched the sun set. He offered to go to the other food truck nearby and grab some ice cream. Homemade stuff boasted by the chalkboard sign on the side of the truck.
With his return and the comfortable quiet that came with watching the sun set over the ocean, you feel him shift to your side, fumbling with something before slipping off the trunk, his back to you.
“Bucky?” You watched him take a deep breath and turn, in his hand was a ring box.
Bucky had thought about proposing a million times.
Every time you’d bring him coffee at the library. Every time you’d turn down the bed before the two of you went to sleep. He’d almost proposed Christmas, but you’d wanted to drink so he held off.
When you brought up this road trip he started thinking about it, really. And decided that he would do it sometime during this trip.
He kept trying to figure out when he wanted to do it. That night of amazing sex in DC. The night you were babbling and drunk in Nashville. Maybe when he looked at you in that jazz club, your face lit up by the stage lights in New Orleans. He’d almost proposed in San Antonio when you were sweet and needy.
He thought about it during your argument heading towards the Four Corners Monument but changed his mind. And at the Grand Canyon there were just too many people around. But here it was just the two of you, your car farther away from the crowd gathered by the food trucks. You’d just watched the sun set over the ocean. He knew it was now, he had to do it.
He wanted to do it.
“I had a whole thing… planned out.” He stumbles over his words, “I’ve thought about this every day for years now, I think. And I just… you’re the love of my life. You’re the only person I want to spend it with, and I know we haven’t talked a lot about getting married and I’m ruining this, but… This trip has really confirmed everything I already knew that I felt and I don’t think there’s any better time to ask…
Will you marry me?”
The ring felt strange on your finger but was easily ignored as your fingers tangled in Bucky’s hair. The windows in the car were cracked to keep them from steaming up, a practice well versed by both of your exhibitionist tendencies. The goal was to make it back to the hotel, but this abandoned stretch of highway would do just fine.
On his lap in the backseat you grind your hips against his, aching for it. Fingers fumbling with the buttons on his shorts and feeling his hands squeeze your bare ass while you work them down past his knees. A hover to adjust before sinking down.
Wet but not completely prepared, the stretch and burn a little intense. His mouth moving passionately against yours as one hand slipped between you and starting carefully stroking your clit. Your hands meet the head rest, using it as leverage to raise and lower yourself on his dick. His hips slip down on the seat a little to help you, thrusting up to meet your hips.
“I’m not gonna last,” He moans against your mouth. You start to gush around him, whimpering as you grow closer and closer to release. His hand that had been on your waist coming to tangle in your hair and tug, those practiced fingers of his between your legs finally bringing you over. He was quick to follow. Panting as you remain in his lap, feeling him soften, his arms wrapping around you and pulling you in tightly to his chest. Soft and loving,
“This was a really good idea.”
The Irreplaceable Charlie Weasley: Pt. 8, Ch. 3
PART 8: WHERE IT ALL ENDS Chapter 3 - Love in a Snitch
Charlie
“You talk about school, Dragons, you tell her about Wood, you give her the Snitch. You talk about school, Dragons, you tell her about Wood, you give her the Snitch. You talk about school, Dragons, you tell her...”
“Wow, Char...” Nova interrupted my train of thoughts and I turned around. She was looking at what I have prepared for her with her mouth open. “I didn't forget our anniversary, did I?” I chuckled as I saw she was trying to remember the date but we were far away from May.
She sat down next to me on the blanket I prepared. The Wireless softly playing music, while I reached into the picnic basket to get us each a Butterbeer. Nova was still looking at the lights that I hang on the tree. I loved surprising her more than anything.
“You didn't forget our anniversary.” She turned her head to me when I spoke, her eyes were sparkling. “I saw how your eyes shone today when you saw the School Grounds and I wanted to bring you here.” I put my hand on her cheek and kissed her. “You know, for old times sake.”
“This place is even more beautiful than I have it in my memory.” She whispered, looking at the Lake. “Do you remember when you told us that you were feeding cereal to the Giant Squid?” She laughed. She was right where I wanted her to be. Going through our memories here.
“How could I forget Penny's face when I told you. She thought I was mental.” I laughed with her.
“I remember looking at all of them and realizing I was the only one that actually understood you.” The biggest smile plastered her face.
“Wasn't that the morning before Hagrid took us to the Forest for the first time?” I tried to remember.
“It was!” Nova exclaimed. “I still can't believe Snape thought he was punishing us.” I leaned on the tree and Nova got comfy in my arms.
“It was such a fun night even though Hagrid was probably terrified of something happening to us.” I remember we were trying to convince him to take us into the Forest for a year and then he didn't have a choice.
“I am trying to recall why we picked this as our favorite spot.” Nova looked up at the lights again.
“I think we started it all.” I said gently, burying my nose in her hair. “Didn't we read under this tree?”
“Oh! The book you got for Christmas!” She clapped her hands together. “It was one of the first owls you ever sent me to invite me to the Lake.”
I still remember writing that letter. Spring was coming and I wanted to invite her to the Lake for months. I was so nervous because despite us starting to be friends and spending Christmas together, I still didn't want to intrude in case she didn't want to spend time with me. But she responded to all my letters and was always so happy to hang out even if we were just reading all the time.
“How do you think we would've met if I didn't stand up for you that day in the Courtyard?” She said after me being silent.
“Hmm, perhaps in class?” I gave it a thought. It all started with those Slytherins being mean to me. “Or perhaps I would stare at you, having a crush, and you would tell me to bugger off because it would creep you out.” I could feel her body shaking from giggles.
“Maybe Tulip and Tonks would meet Jae and we would meet through them.” She suggested another theory. “I know it sounds mean but I am glad those Slytherins were bullying you.” She looked up at me to kiss me.
“I'm glad too. Perhaps I should thank them.” I chuckled.
“Imagine we invite them to our wedding.” Nova joked. I stiffened and pulled away from her a bit, hoping she couldn't hear my heartbeat going wild.
“Yeah.” I swallowed hard, trying to sound as casual as possible.
“So, did the Sanctuary survive without me?” I tried changing the topic.
“Felix and Andrei were a bit nervous, but they managed. My team jumped in whenever needed, your buddies were really good.” I knew she was proud of the Dragons.
“Oh!” She suddenly jumped up and turned around. “I almost forgot to tell you! Eero and Ajax are friends!”
“You're joking!” I gasped. I couldn't believe she finally did it. She has been working so hard to get anything from her research between Chimeras and Dragons. I know Felix told her to take all the time in the world but I could tell even he was getting impatient. I believed she could do it, she just needed time.
She has been taming that Chimera for almost a year. Which took way longer than it did with the Hippogriff which she had no problem befriending in a week and even the Mountain Troll was not giving her as many problems as one would expect. In two months he listened to her more than I thought Trolls capable of doing and even though it was easy to see that Trolls and Dragons don't mix, the research was worth it.
The Hippogriff was quite stubborn and I knew she wasn't going to let him off easy, especially since Felix already indicated that she was going to work with a Chimera which is even more dangerous and intimidating to pair them with Dragons. Nonetheless, Norbert did a great job with that Hippogriff and when those reports hit the newspapers, she was beyond excited.
A few months after that, her research for the Chimera was approved. Lots of people in the Ministry were against it just like they are against Dragons and deemed it a waste of time and money, saying what good would the type of research do but Felix wouldn't have it and gave her the green light almost losing us the founding for the Dragon Research team. They were angry with Nova for a month for that one.
When Ajax started trusting her she tried to introduce him to a couple of Dragons. Norbert looked like the best option and at the beginning, it wasn't going so bad but it almost ended costing Nova her life when she thought he was relaxed but lashed at her in the last second.
That night we had our worst fight as I lost it, just thinking that she could've died. I wanted her to quit her research and send the Chimera back but she was stubborn and wouldn't listen to me at all. In the end, I didn't have a choice but to let her continue as I couldn't decide which one of us was madder.
I regret shouting at her so much that night. She always told me that I have to let her be in danger sometimes and I was trying my best to let her get the scars and scratches, it was her line of work after all and she loved it. Once she told me how much she has been progressing with Ajax and I saw the passion with which she has been telling me about her day, I couldn't deny her doing what she loved.
She started trying with the Common Welsh Green a little over a month ago. I told her that he is obedient enough that he might just listen to her, even though I was the only one who he didn't dare to bite. I pulled in extra hours for a week to get Eero and Nova acquainted and she has been trying to introduce him to Ajax ever since.
I stared at her in admiration as she was describing how she finally did it. She was so proud of herself and she barely had time to catch a breath, she was so excited to tell me everything. I couldn't stop my lips from curving, I could listen to her forever. After all these years I still couldn't believe I found someone like her.
“Eero was not at all amused when Ajax took a nap after his meal.” Her giggles finally snapped me back to reality and I joined her. “If he could talk he would probably throw some cusses at me.”
“I have no doubt about that.” I kissed her forehead. “So what's your next move?”
“Well, they have to repeat their date a few more times, and then I think I can start writing my paper.” She beamed at me.
“I am so proud of you, Nova! I knew you could do it.” I wrapped my arms tighter around her.
“With occasional bickering about me being in danger, sure.” She rolled her eyes playfully.
“You know I will never stop worrying about you.” My voice got serious for a minute.
“I know, Char.” She sighed. “It's something I have to live with as much as you have to live with the fact that I can survive a few scratches and burns.”
“And get almost eaten by a Dragon.” I teased her.
“Think of how happy it would make Norbert!” She teased back, sending chills down my spine just thinking about it.
“Let's stop talking about it, love.” I turned her to me and pressed my lips hard against hers. Every time we talked about these kinds of things I felt the urge to kiss her, to feel her next to me.
“So, did you see any of the Professors?” I finally managed to change the subject.
“I did! I said hi to Sprout and Dumbledore and they congratulated me on my paper!” She exclaimed. “And then I ran into Snape.”
“Really?” I let out a laugh. “That had to be fun!”
“Mhm, he told me that the only student in our whole year that wasn't completely useless was Penny.”
“Makes sense to me.” We both burst out laughing.
“I ran into Flitwick in the hallway and then joined Hermione for Advanced Transfiguration.” She leaned back in my arms.
“And how was that?” I asked, gently. I knew McGonagall was by far her favorite professor and I knew how much she missed her.
“Oh, Char...” She sighed. “If I wasn't loving my job so much I would have asked her to be her assistant. Is it okay, if I am in love with her voice?”
“Fine by me, love.” I giggled.
“Oh, and I think your little brother has a crush!” She sang after a minute.
“Love, you know I have a lot of younger brothers, you will have to be more specific.” I kissed the top of her head.
“Ron has a crush on Hermione!” At that moment she reminded me of Penny whenever she told us the fresh gossip in the morning.
“Really? Did he tell you that?” Out of all my brothers, I felt like Ron would be the most clueless one when it comes to fancying someone. Perhaps even more than I was.
“No, but it's so obvious! I bet he's going to ask her to the Ball.” She was as excited as Penny too.
“He won't do that!” I was prepared to bet my wand that Hermione was going to be the last one on his mind if he even comes around to ask anyone. “Ron is too oblivious and too shy to even ask Ginny.” Nova laughed at my joke.
“You're probably right.” She intertwined her fingers with mine. “They still have time.”
“You finally got around to the fact that we came together at the right time?” I smiled. I knew she was having a battle with herself for the longest time, blaming herself that she was oblivious for such a long time that she liked me more than a friend.
“I did. I think we're perfect as we are.” She pushed more into me and I wrapped my arms even tighter around her.
“Wouldn't Hermione be a better fit for Harry?” I thought out loud and regretted it immediately as she turned to me.
“Charles Weasley, no!” She frowned. “Harry will end up with Ginny.” She said as if she saw it in a crystal ball.
“Ginny still has a crush on him, huh?” Nova told me when Ginny confessed to her that she liked Harry but I thought after almost 4 years she would've stopped.
“Still?” She raised an eyebrow at me. “Yeah, because you gave up on your crush on me so easily.”
“Right.” I had nothing to defend myself with. “I guess it runs in the family.” We both chuckled.
“So, Harry did great on the first task?” Nova asked.
“You should've seen him! He was brilliant! Summoned his broom, it drove the Horntail crazy! She didn't see it coming at all!” I was impressed with the kid. I knew he was terrified and in my opinion, they should have never let him participate but he did well for himself and he deserved more points than Krum that made the Chinese Fireball smash her eggs.
“A broom. That's a cunning one.” Nova was impressed as well. I took a deep breath. I knew that this was my cue to stir the conversation the way I wanted it to go tonight.
“You know who I ran into?” She lifted her head to me at my question. “Wood.”
“Really!” She grinned. “I forgot he was still at school. Is he still the Quidditch Captain?”
“The very same. Fred and George told me that he uses my speeches at the games.” I laughed.
“You're joking!” She joined me.
“He was so excited to see me that he wanted the team to have practice at once so I could watch.” I giggled.
“Well, he always admired you.” Nova said softly. “Is he still mad that you chose Dragons over Quidditch? “
“Of course!” I exclaimed. I wouldn't expect anything else. “But he gave me this.” I gently pushed Nova away and took a Snitch out of the basket.
“One of yours?” She gasped, wanting to touch it but I didn't let her. I couldn't. Not yet.
“It's yours, actually.” She turned her head to me and stopped trying to get the Snitch from me for a second.
“Mine?” She whispered. Her eyes on the golden ball again.
“The very first one you caught.” I threw the Snitch into the air, its wings appeared and it started flying below the lights. Nova got up and started snapping at it.
“Why would Oliver have my first Snitch?” She asked as she finally got it. She was turned away from me and I knew this was my opportunity. The Snitch closed its wings in her hand and it opened. “Charlie, what...” She never finished her question. She turned around and found me, kneeling on one knee in front of her.
“Nova, it might have taken us a while to go from being best friends to what we have now but it was worth the wait. You made me the happiest man the day we confessed feelings to each other under this tree. Will you make me even happier and marry me?”
I could see tears gathering in her eyes, now switching from the ring the Snitch revealed to me.
“Of course, I will, Charles!” She kneeled next to me and pulled me in a hug so tight that it took my breath away. I took the ring out of the Snitch and placed it on her finger. It fit perfectly.
“Char, it's...it's...” She brushed her cheeks that were now soaked from her tears. She kept staring at the ring in awe. It was silver with a black diamond and two silver Dragons guarding it, one on each side.
“I'm glad you like it.” I pressed my lips on her forehead.
“Love, Charlie. I LOVE it.” She finally looked at me and my heart wanted to burst, so many emotions in her eyes. “I knew I would love any way you would propose but this...I really am speechless.” She pulled me into a hug again and I knew she was looking at the ring on her finger.
I then told her that there wasn't really a need for her to come and help with the Dragons and that even though Felix and Andrei needed some convincing, they gave in when I told them what I was planning to do.
I knew I wanted to propose to her under this tree ever since Andrei told me I would have to lead a team to Hogwarts for the Triwizard Tournament. I then told her that Ginny knows and she said that she knew we were both hiding something. I was debating whether to tell Ginny or just ask her to get Nova but I couldn't hide it from her. It was written all over my face. I also confessed that Oliver wasn't the one who gave me the Snitch.
I had to write to Orion, Ravenclaw's former Captain, to ask if he knew where they kept the Snitches that nobody took after the game. He told me to talk to Professor Flitwick, who let me into the Trophy Room and unlocked a special compartment where they kept every golden ball, marked by their Seeker and the date it was caught.
All there was left, was for me to execute the plan, and to say that I was nervous was an understatement. I knew she was going to say yes but I wanted to make it as perfect as possible and by the surprised expression on her face when the Snitch opened and when she realized what was going on, I think it's safe to say that my plan worked.
“I don't know what to say.” She said after I finished. “I loved every surprise you ever made for me but this is by far the best one.” She wiped her eyes as tears started gathering in them again. “I can't believe you went through all this trouble to propose to me.”
“You're worth it, love.” Damn it, I promised myself I won't cry! But how could I not? She just made me the luckiest man in the world.
If You Love Someone, Let Them Go: Part 7
Tumblr media
Summary: Since starting with SVU, Sonny hadn’t kept much terribly close to the chest. The squad knew about his family, growing up on Staten Island, the classes at Fordam. What was hidden was why he didn’t date. Sonny Carisi was also separated from his childhood sweetheart, a separation neither ever took to divorce. They had the same haunts. They’d grown up neighbors. Their paths crossed every few months, and divorce talks would turn into reminiscing would turn into a night spent together, sometimes sex sometimes just talking until the early morning. It always ended with one of them waking up alone however. How will that change when the squad finds out?
Pairings: Sonny Carisi x Original Character
1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6
May 2015
“Dominick, where’s the box with my shoes?” Victoria called, stepping over the piles in the apartment they’d consolidated into over the last month and a half. Both their leases were ending, so they decided to go ahead and overlap their leases with a new place for a month. They needed to start fresh, and neither of them wanted to do that in the solitary spaces they’d inhabited without the other. She was nervous now, however, because Olivia had extended Carisi’s invitation to celebrate Noah’s adoption to her as well. It struck her that she was the only SVU spouse, so it might just be the group that spent every day and lots of long nights together and her, someone suddenly thrust into their world. That meant she was exceptionally nervous as she got ready; meeting them on their turf felt more serious than being at Bella’s wedding. Everyone had dispersed within hours there.
“Kitchen counter. Got mixed up for the pots and pans in our room somehow,” he called, and she could tell he was brushing his teeth. She stepped over the not yet assembled shelves she’d gotten, digging each chunky heel from the cardboard box. The wedding heels had been hard on her because the brides wanted stilettos. These she could walk in all day, and she liked reaching Sonny’s shoulder. She went to the bathroom, leaning on the door frame as she watched him style his hair, the tip of his tongue between his front teeth. He caught her eye on the mirror, and his mouth shifted to a grin as he shot her a wink.
“Lookin’ hot, Mrs. Carisi.”
“Why thank you,” she grinned, striking a playful pose. “You look pretty hot yourself.”
“You just like these shirts on me.”
“And your ass in those khakis.”
She felt triumphant as his cheeks turned pink, grabbing her purse and fixing her lipstick. Soon enough, they were knocking on Olivia’s door, and Sonny pressed a kiss by her ear.
“You’ll be fine,” he whispered, straightening up as Olivia opened the door.
“Carisi, Victoria, come on in,” she smiled, and Victoria couldn’t help but grin at the sight of the little boy on her hip, putting the gift bag on the counter.
“It’s so great to see you again. We brought a present for you two. Wine for mama and a toy for Noah.”
“You didn’t have to do that.”
“It’s a celebration,” she smiled, and Sonny watched fondly as Victoria made faces at Noah, who squealed with delight.
“Carisi,” Barba nodded, scotch in hand as the detective opened a beer. “Things seem to be good?”
“Yeah. We’re unpacking the new place.”
“I’m sure it’s a delight.”
“Tor’s back home. Of course it is.”
“Can I give you one piece of advice, if you still want to be an attorney?”
“If you’re going to say ‘don’t’ again-”
“I’m feeling sentimental on this, the celebration of Noah’s adoption.”
“Go on then.”
“You’ve expressed an interest in the DA’s office. Prosecution. It’s all the pain from SVU, plus you have to be the bad guy and demand proof. You’ve hated my guts more than a few times, no?”
“Yeah?”
“Don’t fuck up again. You’ll need that anchor. I have had two opportunities. One ended up with the friend. The other I drove away trying to keep secrets and seem tough.”
“Liv rat me out?”
“On accident at the wedding. But only because she knew I’d understand. Being able to talk to her will be what keeps you sane during some of those trials.”
“You know, cousin Tony is a real good listener and seemed real into you.”
“He is quite the listener and is quite into me. Now, shut up before you ruin my good mood.”
“There’s the Barba I’m used to.” A roll of the attorney’s eyes told him whatever sentimentality he was going to be at the receiving end of was over, and Sonny felt confident that when he asked to shadow him later, Barba wouldn’t be as put out as he pretended. When he looked back to Olivia, Victoria was chatting happily with a glass of wine in hand. He was excited he still got to make an introduction between Fin and Victoria. It was nice to be able to say This is my wife, Victoria without having to eventually explain they didn’t live together. When he heard a knock, he moved to her side, anticipating his entrance. Once he’d greeted Olivia and Noah, Sonny was pleased with the look on his face. As the detective who’d been there the longest, Sonny found himself caring what Fin thought, and Fin seemed to be forming his opinion.
“Fin! I want ya t’meet my wife, Victoria,” he said happily, arm slung over her shoulder. She extended a hand, which Fin shook gladly.
“It’s nice to meet you! I’ve heard so much!”
“Nice to meet you too. Your husband ain’t shut up about you in weeks. Once he started-”
“He’s pretty sappy?”
“So you been putting up with him a decade?”
“I mean technically my whole life. We grew up next door to each other.”
“I hear I gotta come to a bakery in Brooklyn now.”
“Oh yeah. You got any favorites? Tell me, and I’ll send a preview with Dom next week.”
“I’m pretty traditional.”
“You want brownies, cookies, or cake?”
“Cookies.”
“Deal. Sonny’ll have you a batch Monday.”
“I like her, Carisi,” Fin said, clapping a hand on the younger detective’s shoulder before going to get his drink and greet Barba.
“It’s not fair. You can make cookies and everyone instantly likes you.”
“You seen your goofy grin? You don’t even have to talk to be likable.”
She was rewarded with a kiss to the temple and the aforementioned grin. Soon enough, Amaro and Rollins were there, and Barba poured the pricey champagne he’d brought to toast. Everyone finally got comfortable after that, Sonny settled on the arm of the couch beside Victoria, and Noah was teetering around the coffee table. Victoria was happy to babble to him, and he could see she felt proud when Noah decided to climb onto her lap. God, she was going to be a good mom if they ever stabilized. Couples therapy would start soon. They’d always said when he finished school, and that would actually be happening the next year. Maybe if they were doing well they could have their own baby. All of his sisters were pregnant or already had kids, and fatherhood had been Sonny’s dream.
 As Noah leaned into Victoria, he looked up at Sonny, who was happy to wave down at him. It seemed Lucy liked getting a break to talk to the adults, and he could see the look on Olivia’s face watching Noah. She liked seeing the boy bond with the family she’d made through work. He probably owed a lot of the growth that got him Victoria back to her. The squad was a family with Olivia as their matriarch, and he’d felt safe enough to verbalize his feelings in the first days with her team, when he still had the moustache Victoria had recently informed him really was awful when he tried to defend it.
“I can take him if you need me to, Victoria. He’s out,” she said from her spot beside Barba.
“It’s fine. He’s so cuddly.”
“You’re sure?”
“Yeah. Long as Sonny doesn’t mind getting me a glass of wine.”
“On it, doll,” he grinned, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. Victoria had always loved when their nieces fell asleep on her like this when they were babies. Mia had been the first one, and they took to each other quickly, even if Victoria had been the neighbor kid at the time. They hadn’t broached kids again, and frankly she was afraid of the prospect, but she’d wanted to have kids with Sonny since they got married. Logically, she knew they had to wait until the time was right. Originally, that was just when he finished school, but now they had to play it by ear again. Either way, she was going to savor the smell of baby as Noah slept with his cheek pressed against her shoulder. She wasn’t as good at the play as Sonny was; every child he encountered bonded with him easily, something that had to be helpful in his job. Victoria was good at cuddling and nurturing though. When the first members of the team trickled out, she settled Noah in his mother’s arms and gave her the best hug she could.
“Thanks for including me. I’m so happy for you, Olivia.”
“Thanks for coming. Noah loves you. Mind being added to the babysitter list?”
“I am honored.” Sonny led her out, hand on the small of her back and a crooked smile plastered across his face. Everyone loved her, like he knew they would. How could someone not? It was near dinner, so without checking, he led the way to a sushi bar near Olivia’s. As he guided her in, she looked up at him with her brow furrowed.
“Dinner date?” He was proud to see her cheeks turn pink.
“I’d like that. You been spoiling me lately.”
“I just been acting like I should. You been pretty damn good to me too.”
“Wanna get saki?”
“Are trying to get me drunk?”
“You only have to go in tomorrow if there’s an emergency.”
“Saki it is.”
“I was thinking I might plan us a trip in November.”
“Yeah? Could be fun.”
“Any place you wanna go? You’ll be who we’re celebrating.”
“Oh?” he asked, brow lifted as he smiled at her.
“Dirty thirty.”
“Dirty thirty? Really Tor?”
“It’ll be fun.”
“I was thinking about New Orleans next year. Could be fun near the holidays instead. Do something bigger for our anniversary.”
“I like the way you think. Plus, July is hot as hell. I’ll tell you the dates when I know.”
“I can’t wait. I’m glad we’ll be together over the holidays.”
“I’m glad we’ll be together on our anniversary. We missed two.”
“One,” he said, puzzled before he winced. “Wait no, you’re right. I was being a bad husband.”
“Nah, you weren’t doing well,” she assured him, hand on his thigh.
“Ninth, we’re staying here. Tenth, we’re going big.”
“Deal. I love you, Tor.”
“And I love you.”
“You were real good with Noah.”
“He’s such a cuddly boy.”
“I told Lieu I gotta hang out with him sometimes. The girl gene runs real strong with the Carisis. Four nieces, no nephews? And then non Carisi niece on her way from Rollins.”
“Only two have been born. Mom thought I was going to be a boy.”
“True. Fingers crossed. Or maybe we’ll have a boy.”
“Dom-”
“I ain’t saying tomorrow. I’m just saying therapy is going good, we’re doing good, couples therapy is soon, and I bet we have a kid in before I’m forty.” She laughed, kissing him softly. “I think it’ll be sooner than that. Maybe in like three?”
“Even better. I can’t wait to feel our baby kick one day. Know they’re there. It’ll happen when we’re ready. Not a minute sooner. God’s got a plan.”
“We just gotta be careful, okay? I want to try to not get pregnant for a while.”
“I know, Tor.”
“Don’t get testy. I wanna make sure we’re ready.”
“I know. Just- seeing you with Noah and Jessie? Set off the ‘I want kids’ bell stronger than last time.”
“Me too. Every time I see you hold the kids.”
“We gotta baby sit more to tide me over.”
“I got a feeling I’ll be getting calls from Liv. You make that clear to Amanda. Then soon enough? Gina’s almost due. Then Bella.”
“True,” he smiled softly. “If we wait they get to be the only Carisi baby that year. Even more attention.”
“You’ll spoil them rotten.”
“That’s my job.”
“We get the day tomorrow, unless somethin’ happens.”
“We do. I gotta go to the bakery for a couple hours at least to help train the newest hire. Margy picked good, but they’re taking weekends for me.”
“I’m really excited about that. I think it’ll be good now that it’s an option.”
“Me too. We both get to be in case of emergency for the most part.”
“Yeah. Liv will rotate all of us taking a Saturday.”
“I guess I’ll just have to find somebody’s baby to play with,” she teased, poking his side and he grinned.
“Y’know, I think we ought to start practicin’ when we go home, doll.”
“Read my mind, Sonny.”
youtube
           “Are you fucking serious?” Namjoon’s voice is low, hushed in the slightly crowded airport lounge.
           “When is the next flight?” Yoongi asks, glare staring at the airport attendant in front of him. Taehyung stands next to him, bag resting gently on the floor, cellphone in hand.
           In seats across the way, Jimin and Hoseok sit, thumbs moving hastily as they text. Seokjin, sits with their managers, discussing solutions, and Jungkook is by the window, phone to his ear, disappointment in his posture.
           “I know, I know,” Jungkook says, voice weary. “I’m trying jagi, I am.”
           It’s the sound of Namjoon’s hand slamming against the wall that brings them all together, moving into a private room in the lounge, seated staring at one another.
           “We were supposed to be home by now,” Hoseok says, frustration deep in the stoop of his eyebrows.
           “I know,” Namjoon answers.
           “It’s our first married Christmas,” Jungkook adds, stuffing his tattooed covered hands in the pocket of his sweats.
           “It’s my child’s first Christmas!” Taehyung declares, aghast that anyone was missing anything nearly as important as him.
           “I was supposed to take the kids for Christmas photos,” Namjoon says.
           Yoongi’s voice is low, a  prayer no one will hear, but a hope they will. “I was going to propose.”
           “What?” Hoseok yells, nearly knocking Jimin off his perch.
            Taehyung turns to his Hyung. “Why are we just hearing about this?”
           “Do you have a ring?” Namjoon wonders.
           “You’re involved with someone?” Jimin pokes. Yoongi glares at him, knowing full well Jimin knows the answer.
           “On Christmas Eve, while we opened presents. Had it all planned for months, the ring is wrapped, it’s sitting under the fucking tree,” Yoongi explains.
           “Won’t she notice a ring box?” Jimin asks.
           “No, I put it in a larger box,” Yoongi’s humoring him, and Jimin knows.
           “A box inside a box?” Jungkook laughs.
           “Sort of,” Yoongi shrugs.
           “Damn, how many years has it been?” Seokjin asks.
           “Five,” Yoongi recounts each anniversary in his mind. The first one, spent on different continents during tour, the second, when they’d flown to New York for press, the third, when you’d gone to Paris, the fourth, when he’d finally convinced you to move to Korea half time, and the fifth, when you’d discussed marriage.
           “Service time counts,” Hoseok adds.
           “Fine, seven,” Yoongi tells them. Technically, years four and five were shared in your hearts only, Yoongi being a desk jockey in the military, but you counted them, nonetheless.
          Jimin cackles  “Wow, never imagined Yoongi-ah would settle down,”
           “Who would’ve thought?” Namjoon chuckles, staring at his elder.
           “You all are trash,” Yoongi says. “None of you are invited to the wedding.”
           “How do you know she’ll say yes?” Taehyung asks, eyes wandering around the sterile lounge. It’s all marble and metal, cold and contemporary, Christmas wreaths hung periodically and poinsettias on all the tables. The only warmth coming from the men, all ganging up on their favorite member.
           “I know,” Yoongi confirms.
           “But how, are you psychic?” Seokjin wonders.
           “No, she told me,” Yoongi tells him.
           “She told you?” Seokjin asks, eyes wide.
           “This isn’t any of your business,” Yoongi scolds, cheeks puffed as he smiles.
           “Alright, alright,” Jin resides.
           “Tae, what are you plans for baby’s first Christmas?” Yoongi asks, deflecting.
           “And baby’s first birthday,” Namjoon adds.
           “He’s so cute, oh my gosh, he just teeters on his little feet, trying to walk. He’s taken a few steps, but he only likes walking if you hold his tiny little hands,” Taehyung gushes, opening the photos on his phone to show them.
           “We’ve seen the videos,” Namjoon laughs, looking again at the numerous photos Taehyung has of his son, not mentioning that he’s seen them all, in an email, that Taehyung sent one day during nap time.
           “Don’t act like we haven’t seen a million from you,” Jimin says elbowing Namjoon. “You’re just as shameless.”
           “You just have more kids, so it seems less obnoxious,” Yoongi says.
           “Two for the price of one!” Seokjin laughs.
           “Don’t think we don’t have the same reaction to yours,” Hoseok laughs at Jin. “You might be the worst out of you three.”
           Pointing at him, finger dagger like, Namjoon warns, “Oh, just you wait, Hope, it’s coming for you too.”
            Taehyung looks from member to member, wondering aloud, “Who will have kids next?”
           “Jungkook,” Jimin blurts. His eyes go wide, and he turns to the maknae.
           “Or J Hope,” Jungkook says, his deflection evident in the blush on his cheeks.
           “No, no, Jungkook, why are you blushing?” Namjoon asks.
           “No reason just wasn’t paying attention,” Jungkook tries to brush it off, but Namjoon’s got him.
           “Is she pregnant?” Hoseok asks, eyes wide.
           “I, maybe, I don’t know,” Jungkook tries to burrow himself into his sweatsuit, beanie pulled lower and lower over his face.
           “Holy shit!” Yoongi exclaims, glancing to make sure no one else has heard his expletive.
           “Are you surprised the golden maknae is procreating before you?” Seokjin asks glancing at Yoongi.
           “No, I’m not surprised at all, my money was on Jungkook,” Yoongi says still smiling.
           “It’s, it’s too soon to tell anyone, we’ve only told our parents,” Jungkook’s cheeks continue to cherry, blossoming across his cheekbones, knowing full well he’s going to be in trouble when his wife finds out he squealed.
           “Ah, discretion,” Seokjin nods. “We’ll pretend we’re not excited for you.”
           “Hobi, what about you?” Jimin turns the attention to someone else, feeling guilty about spoiling Jungkook’s news.
           “Ah, kids are a few years off for us,” Ho-Seok nods, twirling the wedding band on his finger. “Jiminie, what about you?”
           “Me?” Jimin asks pointing to himself.
           “You started this nonsense,” Namjoon reminds him.
           “I, no, no babies, no engagement,” Jimin shakes his head.
           “Why not?” Taehyung asks. “You’ve been talking about it for a while.”
           “Yeah, but talking and following through are two different things,” Jimin says. They all nod, knowing Jimin was going to get engaged shortly after Yoongi. Taehyung found it surprising, but not wholly out of character for  Jimin  to wait for his Hyung to propose first. It was odd, though, everyone had always bet Jimin would get married shortly after Jungkook, while Yoongi  would remain the last man standing.
           “I can’t believe we’re stuck here,” Jungkook says again, glancing at the window. “Isn’t this why we stopped traveling before Christmas?”
           Six years ago, when Namjoon had welcomed his first child, the band decided they would never travel over Christmas again, refusing to part from their growing families. They turned down any work outside the city, including New Years. If some program wanted them, they either wanted their entire blossoming families or they wouldn’t have BTS at all. It was a hard and fast rule, which in the six years since Namjoon became a father, they hadn’t broken.
           Tonight, stranded in an airport in a place none of them could recognize, at least 1000 miles away, they were regretting agreeing to perform for the KBS special anywhere other than Seoul, or within two hours drive from their homes.
          So, they sit, December 23rd, unconvinced they were going to be home by Christmas Eve, unsure if they were going to be home by Christmas.
           “I would walk home,” Hoseok says, sinking in his chair.
           “I would run,” Jimin counters.
           “I’d cross the deserts,” Jungkook says.
           “And the oceans,” Taehyung adds.
           “A fucking frozen tundra,” Yoongi states.
           “If only there was a guiding light, a star, leading us home,” Namjoon says.
            Seokjin sighs, frustration and thoughtfulness in one breath. “She does so much for us, for our family, and here I am, sitting in a luxurious airport, while she’s home with the kids.”
           “She hasn’t even hung the Christmas lights, we were going to decorate the tree together,” Yoongi says. “You know how much she loves Christmas.”
           “I feel like we should go into the gift shops and buy something,” Hoseok suggests.
           “What are we going to find?” Jungkook wonders.
           “Wine,” Namjoon says.
           “Candy,” Jungkook suggests.
           “Oo, candy,” Hoseok laughs, his first laugh in the last few hours.
            Namjoon, still lamenting, “She does everything, she’s the glue of our whole family.”
           “Maybe we’ll go on vacation, somewhere warm,” Seokjin ponders.
           “We should take a big family vacation!” Taehyung suggests.
           “No,” Yoongi shuts it down.
           Hoseok stares at Yoongi, reading the anxiety in his eyes over the suggestion. “It could be fun!”
           Yoongi  stares him down, countering his offer. “How about those who have kids go on one vacation, and those without go on their own,”
           “Why are you being so difficult?” Seokjin asks.
           “I’m tired, my proposal is going to shit, and I’m missing decorating my home with my future wife,” Yoongi lists.
           “I can’t believe they have no hotel rooms anywhere near by,” Hoseok wonders.
           “Maybe if we wish upon a star we’ll make it home by tomorrow,” Jungkook suggests.
           “This is the first Christmas we’ve spent just us, just us seven, in what, a decade?” Taehyung inquires, looking at each of his brothers.
           “Since we all came back from service,” Namjoon answers.
          Agreeing, Hoseok speaks.  “We should honor that,”
           “We’ll be with our families as soon as we can,” Jimin concedes.
          “Life goes on,” Jungkook sings softly.
          “We’ll be home by Christmas Eve, swear it,” Taehyung’s attempt at inspiring them is what they need.
           “Should we go find food and treats?” Jungkook suggests.
           “Absolutely,” Namjoon says.
           “And any souvenirs we can find from this place,” Hoseok reminds them.
           In a small gift shop, Yoongi and Jimin stare at the chip selection.
           “You should propose whenever you want,” Yoongi says to Jimin.
           “Thank you hyung,” Jimin wants to hug  him, but  refrains.
           “I don’t want to steal your thunder, you’ve been planning longer than me, do it when it feels right,” Yoongi glances at Jimin, slightly taller than him, and smiles.
           “Thank you,” Jimin smiles, grateful for the unnecessary permission.
           As they gather back in the lounge, snacks and gummy worms plentiful on the newly cleaned airport table, the seven of them share laughs over silly things their kids have said and reminisce on the years they’ve spent together. Through it all, with the weight of uncertainty waning, they had a glimmer of hope, a little belief, that they’ll be home by Christmas Eve.
Next: Happy Anniversary
-Is this real?- |J. Hughes|
“Jack, you know I can’t move with you. New Jersey? That’s how many hundreds of miles away from Michigan? From Trevor?” I watch the shadow of sadness creep across Jack’s face. The two of us had been avoiding this discussion ever since he had been drafted. Neither one of us wanted to talk about the fact that he would be moving 604 miles away from me until Trev and I moved to Boston. Neither of us wanted to acknowledge the fact that I probably wouldn’t be going with him either. Trevor would be heading to Boston in 2 months, Jack leaving a few weeks after him. Alex flew out in 4 weeks. It had been decided that he and Madi would be living together off UW’s campus since she would only be a 10 minute drive away at Edgewood College. Madi was studying criminology and Alex was studying sports management in case hockey didn’t ever pan out the way he planned. Trev and I would live together, renting out an apartment in Chestnut Hills and attending Boston College together. Him playing hockey and studying business, me studying journalism and babysitting Trev’s drunk self. Again, that was all depending on me deciding not to go with Jack. I had gotten into Seton Hall, which was about 20 minutes away from the arena and practice facility Jack would spend the majority of his time at. The two of us had spent a ton of time looking at apartments between the two and had found ones we liked but I wasn’t sure I was ready to leave Trevor and my parents. Driving to Jack’s wouldn’t be a huge issue, he was only 4 hours away, but with my class schedule and his schedule, it wouldn’t work.
“Charlie, you’re the only one I want there with me. You’ve been going through this with me since the beginning. I can’t be that far from you.” I rake my hand through my hair, taking a deep breath at the same time.
“I want to. But what happens when you’re gone and I’m sitting alone in some city I’m not used to? When you’re on the other side of the country and I’m at home, alone?” All of the sudden, there’s a crazy look in Jack’s eyes. One I’ve only seen when he suggested we hook up for the first time, behind Trev’s back.
“Let’s get married.” He says, looking at me. My mouth drops open.
“Get married? Now? With you and everyone else leaving in less than 2 months? Not exactly the best time to plan a wedding and get married. Jack, we’re 18!” It wasn’t the first time Jack had talked about us getting married. He’d been saying it since the first time I told him I loved him. He had vowed to marry me, but we had both decided it wouldn’t be till after I was through college and working and he was somewhat settled in the NHL.
“Baby, think about it. We’ve talked about it and it’s the perfect solution to everything. We get married, you come with me to Jersey. One last big thing with everyone before we leave.” He says, a smile growing on his face.
“Honey, I know. I want to marry you, I do. But I thought we were waiting.” I say, leaving back into the lawn chair I’m curled up in.
“Well yeah, that was the plan. Before I got drafted to somewhere 4 hours away from you. But it’s close to one of your schools, plus we found an apartment already. Come on, why not? We’ve got a month with everyone still here. Let’s do it.” I shake my head.
“Baby, think about it. We’ve talked about it and it’s the perfect solution to everything. We get married, you come with me to Jersey. One last big thing with everyone before we leave.” He says, a smile growing on his face.
“Honey, I know. I want to marry you, I do. But I thought we were waiting.” I say, leaving back into the lawn chair I’m curled up in.
Come on, why not? We’ve got a month with everyone still here. Let’s do it.” I shake my head, not even believing myself as I agree, and kiss him. His eyes are a golden honey color, bright with excitement as he yells for everyone to come out here. I hear the back door slide open as I stand up out of my chair and move to settle myself on Jack’s lap.
“Oh lord, what now? Is Charlie pregnant?” Madi asks, laughing and walking over to where Jack and I are.
“Well…” Jack says, wrapping his arms around me. Her face turns to stone but then back to normal, carefree Madi.
“Shut up, no she’s not. She would’ve told me by now.” Mad says, reaching over and smacking him as she sits in a chair next to Alex. Jack laughs and shakes his head. Trev and Alex take the porch swing and Trev crosses his arms.
“This had better be good. Your screaming woke me up.” Trev says, yawning and throwing a pointed look in Jack’s general direction.
“We’re getting married.” Jack says, bursting. Trev’s jaw sets, Madi’s drops open and Alex covers his mouth with a slap.
“Uh, what?” Alex asks, the first one to recover. Madi and Trev are still in shock.
“We’re getting married.” I repeat, looking down and seeing my hands shake. Jack covers them with his, gently rubbing his thumb across the back of my hand.
“You’re joking. Wow, real funny guys.” Trev says, pretending to laugh. He rolls his eyes but then looks at me. I beg him with my eyes to believe me and not blow up. His face softens but his eyes stare hard at Jack.
“It’s not. We’re getting married. And I’m moving to Newark with Jack.” Madi stands up and looks at me like I have two heads.
“Wait, did I just miss like the last 4 years? Cause last I checked, you two were planning on waiting a while. At least till Charlie was out of school.” Alex grabs Madi’s hand and pulls her back down into the chair next to him.
“Madi, come on. We’re 18, we’ve already talked about this. If anything goes wrong, well then you can say I told you so. But Mads, I’m asking you, I’m asking all three of you. My best friends, my brother, support us in this.” Trev has been silent the whole time. I can see him working it over again and again in his head. Trying to figure out how this was going to work and whether he should be upset or happy. Then I see a calm wash over him. Which could mean one of two things. One, he’s pissed and going to never speak to me again. Or two, he’s decided it’s okay and is happy for us. I hold my breath as he starts to talk.
“You know what, I support you. I’ve trusted Jack with you for 2 years. He’s taken better care of my little sister than I ever have. I’m proud of who both of you are. So I say go ahead.” Trev stands up and walks over to me. He pulls me to my feet and hugs me. Jack stands and puts his hand on my shoulder. Trev lets go of me and reaches for Jack’s hand. They shake hands and I smile.
“Trev’s right. I support it.” Alex smiles, coming to hug both of us.
“Love you guys.” He says, going to stand next to Madi who still looks very confused.
“Charlie, I’m just not sure. Jack, you know I love you, I really do. But I’m just not sure. Charlie, you’re both so young. I guess I have to say yes. You’re probably gonna get way worse from Mom and Dad.” I smile, pulling Madi into a hug.
“Thanks, Mads, love you.” She pulls back, smiling a watery smile as tears fill her eyes.
“Now you know, my apartment is always open. You can come stay with me whenever. Especially if the idiot here is being a jerk.” I smile and Jack laughs. She wipes her own tears and has a huge smile on her face.
“Now you’d better get her a ring. A nice pretty one. Especially with the size of that first paycheck.” Madi says, sticking her finger into Jack’s chest. Jack smiles and puts his arm around my shoulders.
“I’ll get her a ring. You can even go help us pick it out.” Madi laughs and nods in agreement.
“Even though I’ve already asked you and you said yes, can I still plan a big engagement?” Jack asks, sitting down with me still settled on his lap. I nod and kiss his cheek. Trev was on the phone with our parents, asking them to meet us at the house in an hour and a half. Jack’s parents were already planning on coming over for dinner, along with Quinn and Luke so the perfect time to tell them would be tonight.
“Okay, I need to go get ready. Trev, Madi, are you guys okay with cooking?” Trev nods and Madi follows him inside. Alex had gone inside and apparently fell asleep because he never came back out. I head inside behind Jack who goes over to the island in the kitchen and sits down, supervising Madi and Trev’s cooking. I run up the stairs and go into Jack and I’s room. I turn my curling wand on and grab my makeup bag off the dresser. I sit down on the floor in front of the mirror and start by putting my primer on. I go through my whole makeup routine, keeping it decently simple. I’m starting to curl my hair when the door opens and Jack sticks his head in.
“Hey, bub.” He says, coming in and sitting down on our bed. I smile, catching his eye in the mirror.
“Are you ready for this? Do you think your parents will be alright?” He asks, leaning back against the pillow at the top of the bed. I shrug, focusing on my hair. Very rarely anymore am I silent. Jack knows that if I’m silent, it’s usually because of one of two things, anxiety and stress, or I’m mad about something.
“Char, it’s gonna be okay. You need to get out of your head. Your parents love us together. My parents love us together. They may not entirely approve because we’re so young but it’ll be okay.” I smile, walking over to kiss him. He wraps his arms around my waist and I cup his cheeks. He smiles as I pull away.
“Okay, let me finish getting ready. Go make sure Madi and Trev aren’t burning the house down.” He laughs and heads back downstairs. I grab the gray skirt and orange ombre knit sweater I had bought the other day and put it on, tossing my pajamas in the basket by the bathroom door. I flip my hair over, shaking my curls out. I spray some perfume and check in the mirror. I pull the necklace that Jack bought me for our 2 year anniversary out from under the sweater and twist the promise ring on my left hand ring finger, also from Jack about 4 months ago. Both coping mechanisms of my anxiety.
“Jack, babe, come change please!” I yell out the door, still twisting the ring. He bounds up the stairs and grabs me around the waist. He drags me back into the room.
“Okay honey, okay!” I laugh as he tackles me onto the bed.
“Sweetheart, I need to go make sure Trev gets dressed too! Let me up!” He finally lets me go and I head downstairs to talk to the three remaining people in the house.
“Trevor Micheal, please go put on nice clothes!” I say, walking into the kitchen. He turns around, makes a face at me, and runs upstairs. Madi is stirring something on the stove and I walk over, leaning my head on her shoulder.
“Hey, Mads. Thanks. I know this wasn’t the plan.” She nods, continuing to stir.
“It’s okay, Char. As long as I get to be your maid of honor, I’m beyond happy for you. Both of you.” I smile and hug her around her shoulders. Trev and Jack come banging down the stairs, being as loud as possible. Jack is wearing a white waffle knit long sleeve shirt with a khaki jacket over it, and blue jeans. Trev has on a dark blue and green flannel with khakis.
“Alex Turcotte!” I yell, hopping into the living room where he’s laying on the couch. He sits up, his hair sticking up in fifteen different directions. His eyes are wide, almost in terror.
“Charlotte Grace Zegras I swear to God, if you ever wake me up like that again, I will hurt you!” He shouts, rubbing his eyes.
“I’m sorry, but can you please go put on nice clothes? The parents are gonna be here soon. And take your girlfriend up to change with you please!” I shout as he rolls off the couch and walks into the kitchen. He and Madi disappear upstairs with Madi yelling “Watch the cookies please!” I check the oven and make sure they’re not burning before sitting down at the island and getting on my phone.
“Bro, chill out, you’re gonna be my best man.” I hear Jack say, as he and Trev walk into the kitchen. I laugh.
“Oh Trev, only you would worry about that.” He smiles and sits down next to me.
“Wait so, small wedding planning meeting, how many bridesmaids do I need? Because you and I both know I don’t have that many girl friends so we might be in trouble.” Jack crosses his arms and leans back in his chair.
“Well, there’s Trev, but he’ll be paired with Madi. Alex, Coley, Case. So there’s 3. Oh, wait, Quinn and Luke. Oh damn, you don’t have that many friends, Char.” Trev laughs and tries to cover it with a cough.
“Um, I’ve been saying that since we were 6! I always get punched when I say it but lover boy says it and it’s totally fine.” Jack reaches across the island and squeezes my hand.
“I mean, we could just do a little ceremony. Just like you, me, Alex, Mads, your family, my family. Keep it kinda a secret for a while and then have a big party, announce it, once we’re all settled and the 1st season has ended. I mean, I know I’d be fine with just the little ceremony but you probably want the big dream wedding with all the people.” I smile, leaning my head on his shoulder. I nod and the front door opens.
“I don’t need a big dream wedding. I’m marrying the love of my life in front of the people I care about most. I’d love to have all the boys there but with everything and them all leaving, some already gone, I’m okay with this.” Jake kisses the side of my head as we walk towards the front room of the house.
“Hi kids!” My dad yells, closing the door behind him and my mom. I ran out, catching both of them in a hug. Trev follows me out and Jack stands in the doorway. Madi and Alex come back down the stairs. Madi is wearing an orange flowy shirt with ruffles and black jeans. Alex has on a black button-up shirt and khaki pants.
“Hi Mom, hi Dad.” Trev says, hugging both of them as I let go. Madi waves hello from the couch and Jack gives my mom a hug.
“Hi Julie, Gary.” Mom smiles and Dad shakes Jack’s hand. The front door opens again and Jim and Ellen, followed by Dumb and Dumber, walk in, crowding the entryway. I hug both of Jack’s parents then move to hug both Quinn and Luke. Trev takes Mom and Dad into the dining room where Madi and Alex are finishing getting dinner set out on the table. Jack hugs his parents and then does the weird bro handshake thing with both of his brothers. Quinn looks at me funny and then leans down to whisper in my ear.
“Why the hell are you guys all wearing nice clothes? This is what I slept in!” I laugh and Luke smirks. I herd the 3 boys into the dining room. Quinn and Luke sit across from Jack and I. Trevor is sitting next to my mom and dad. Madi and Alex are across from the Hughes. The dinner flows smoothly but I can tell Jack is nervous from the way his knee is shaking constantly under the table. I rest my hand gently on his thigh and his knee suddenly stops.
“Hey, family.” Everyone gets quiet and looks at Jack and I. I feel Jack take a deep breath and I lean back in my chair. Quinn catches my eye and winks at me, calming me slightly, even if he doesn’t know what’s going on.
“Mom, Dad, Julie, Gary, This is going to be a bit of a shock. Especially since I know Charlie and I have talked to both of you about waiting to get married until I was settled in the NHL and she’s through college. But Char and I talked through things and we’ve decided we’re going to get married now. Um, I know I should’ve asked for your blessing, Mr. Z, Mrs. Z, but it was something we just figured out today.” I watch my parents’ faces, along with the Hughes’ faces. Quinn looks amused and Luke’s mouth is hanging open. Madi nudges him and his mouth snaps shut.
“Getting married? You’re 18, Jack, sweetie. Are you sure you two are ready for everything that comes with that? Especially heading into your first professional hockey season?” Ellen asks, holding tightly to Jim’s hand. I nod and Jack pulls my fingers into his.
“We’re ready. We’re sure about this. I mean, you guys have done an amazing job raising both of us. I’ve always wanted a love like you and Dad’s, Mom. Jack is the person I get to share that with.” Mom smiles at me with tears in her eyes.
“Alright baby. If you’re sure about this.” Dad smiles too.
“Wait, let me get this straight, y’all are getting married?” Luke asks, resting his chin in his hand.
“Yeah, and I want you and Q to stand up there with me. We agreed that we would just have a small ceremony at the house in Toronto. Just our families, Madi and Alex. We’d keep it on the down-low for the time being. Then later, maybe once the season is over, we’d have a big elaborate wedding reception party thing with everyone.” Jack says, looking at his parents. His mom nods and Trev coughs.
“I get to be his best man! Mads is Char’s maid of honor. Alex, Luke, and Quinn are Jack’s groomsmen.” Trev’s smile on his face shows exactly how he’s feeling and I can’t help but laugh at the fact that I’m pretty sure my brother is more excited about me getting married than I am.
“Wait, one female attendant and 4 male attendants? That won’t work!” My mom says, sitting up and looking at me.
“Honey, you need at least 3 more female attendants.” Ellen says as Jack slides his hand between my thighs and traces circles on the inside of my thigh.
“I know. But these are the only people I really want there. I’m okay with just these people at my wedding.” Jack smiles, gently kissing the side of my forehead.
“I know you already said yes but do we get to plan a big “surprise” engagement? You would have to act surprised though, Charlie.” Mom says, smiling as Jack laughs.
“Oh my gosh, I’ll act surprised. But yeah, you and Mads can help Jack plan all that.” Mom smiles and turns to Madi, who also has a big smile on her face.
“Alright, real wedding talk. You want this wedding at the Toronto lake house? How soon?” Jim asks, looking at Jack and I.
“Oh my gosh! Can I be a bridesmaid?” Luke asks, suddenly standing up and looking at Jack and I with the same crazy look I saw in Jack’s eyes earlier. The whole table bursts out laughing and I smile.
“Luke, you can be a bridesmaid if you want, but maybe not wear the dress? I love you for offering. I also think Jack would prefer for you to stand with him.” Jack smiles and looks at Luke with a raised eyebrow.
“That’s nice Hughesy.” Trev says, fist-bumping Luke.
“Okay, back to the original topic. Yes, at the lake house. Well technically at the Cape building we used for the one dinner last summer. And since Alex, Jack, and Trev all leave within the next 2 months, it’d have to be as soon as we can get it planned.” I say, looking at Ellen and Jim.
“Okay, let’s set a date then. Jack reports September 19th, Trev, Quinn, and Alex are both on September 13th, so before then. How about August 30th? It’s a Friday and we can all just spend the week up there before, getting everything ready. Then you two can go to your apartment in Newark for the rest of the month, finish getting it all ready until Jack has to report.” Jack’s face drops.
“Oh crap, we probably need to actually decide on an apartment. And soon.” I nod and Jack shows me his phone.
“I messaged the landlord of this building and he said we could move into a 4 bedroom apartment on the 14th floor on September first. Which would be right after we get back. The building, The Colonnade, is about 10 minutes away from the stadium and training facility. What do you think?” I take his phone and scroll through the photos. The apartment looks big and isn’t as expensive as most of the other ones Jack and I have looked at. Especially for having 4 bedrooms.
“Let me and your mom have a look.” Ellen says, reaching for Jack’s phone. I hand the phone off to her.
“Now the big question is, is there a guest room for me, Trev, and Madi to crash in when we come to visit?” Alex asks, nudging Jack.
“Yeah, me too! We’re all gonna come visit!” Luke says, bouncing up and down like the teenage boy he is.
“Yeah, there’s a guest room. There’s honestly probably enough room for all of you to visit at once.”
I lay down on the bed, exhausted from getting Jack’s family lake house ready for our wedding tomorrow. Madi flops on the bed next to mine and groans.
“I love you but I’m so tired of getting ready for your wedding.” I laugh and cover my face with my pillow.
“I feel you. As excited as I am to be married to Jack, I’m so sick of cleaning and getting things ready.” Madi rolls on her side and looks over at me. I run my hands through my hair and close my eyes.
“Dude, this is crazy. Like it’s still processing that you’re gonna be married in less than 24 hours. Married!” Madi’s eyes get big, almost like a bug. I laugh, rolling over and falling onto the floor with a bang. I can hear footsteps running up the stairs and our door flying over. Madi and I are both dying laughing when Jack and Trevor burst through the door, Alex not far behind.
“Babe! You okay?” Jack says, rushing to where I’m laying on the floor. Madi and I are both still laughing.
“Honey, I’m fine, I’m fine!” I say, sitting up and leaning against his legs. He wraps his arms around my shoulders and lets out a deep breath.
“Guys, we’re gonna party so hard tomorrow! I’m psyched!” Trev says, bouncing up and down on my bed. Luke and Quinn make their way into the room and sit down on Madi’s bed next to Alex and Mads. Trev is stretched out on my bed.
“Um so since our parents are here, does that mean no drinking?” I look up at Alex, confused.
“We’re all legal here. Plus it’s my wedding so I will be doing whatever I want.” Jack says, laughing. Everyone laughs and I hear the front door slam downstairs.
“Kids, we’re home!” The parents had gone into Toronto for dinner and shopping. Alex’s mom and dad had ended up coming with us, along with Madi’s mom and dad too. Madi’s parents counted me as a second daughter, and with Madi being in the wedding, they came along. Alex’s mom was our photographer. They were all getting here tomorrow morning since the wedding was in the afternoon.
“Madi, we picked up your dress!” Madi jumps up and runs out of the room. I had picked out Madi’s dress and hadn’t let her see it before I had bought it for her to wear. It was a long sky blue off the shoulder dress that would look absolutely gorgeous with her hair and skin. The boys and I follow Madi down the stairs to where Ellen is standing with the dress bag. Madi unzips the bag and gasps.
“Oh my gosh! Char, I love it so much! I’m gonna go try it on!” She runs into the bathroom as the boys scatter to the different couches and I sit down on the floor between Jack’s legs, my head resting against his stomach. Suddenly the bathroom door flies open and Madi spins out. The dress fits her perfectly and makes her look radiant.
“Oh my gosh, wow Mads! I love it so much!” I say, smiling. Alex’s mouth drops open, he’s speechless.
“Dude, your girl is gonna look so good tomorrow!” Trev says, nudging Alex but Alex still can’t find his words. Madi walks over to him and kneels in front of him.
“Baby? What do you think?” Alex looks up and smiles.
“It looks amazing, baby girl.” He kisses her and I smile, leaning my head against Jack’s leg. Quinn gets up and walks to the fridge, pulling a bottle of Smirnoff out of the fridge.
“Night before the wedding shots!” He shouts, setting the bottle down and smiling.
“Do I really wanna get drunk the night before my wedding? And spoil my own fun for tomorrow? Sure why not!” Jack says, reaching for one of the shots Quinn just finished pouring. He hands one to me and everyone else around us.
Alright, 3, 2, 1!” Quinn counts down. Luke starts to cough and I flip around.
“Oh my gosh, Luke! Give me that!” I shout, taking the shot glass out of his hand.
“Damn! I forgot you’re only 16!” Quinn says, laughing as I glare at him.
“Not like it’s the first time…” Luke says, dabbing Trev up and turning around. Luke disappears and the rest of us continue taking shots. The parents finally make their way back out to the living room.
“Kids, are you planning on doing anything? It’s your last night before you’re stuck together forever.” Jack’s dad says, sitting down on the couch and wrapping his arm around Jack’s shoulder. We all laugh and I look up at Jack and smile.
“I don’t know, I was kinda planning on just hanging out on the dock and just spending it with these guys.” Jack says, motioning to the gang gathered around us. I nod and the boys all stand up.
“Hold up a minute. Jack, you’re coming with us. Mads, you’ve got Charlie.” They pull Jack to his feet, almost knocking me over.
“Wait what? Guys, stop it!” Trev turns to look at me, a grin covering his face.
“Chillax, Sista. We’re just gonna have a little fun with Jacky Boy on his last night of being a “boy.” Don’t worry.” I raise an eyebrow at Jack as he is herded out of the room by Quinn and Alex. He has a goofy smirk on his face and blows me a kiss as they grab their jackets from the hallway.
“Don’t worry, we’re going with them. We’ll make sure they’re responsible.” My dad says, grabbing his jacket as Jim grabs his jacket and the boys make their way out the door. Madi moves to sit on the couch next to me. I cross my arms, watching the headlights of Jim’s car leave the driveway.
“And we’re gonna have a spa night and get you all pretty and ready for tomorrow.” Madi says, grabbing my hand and pulling me upstairs while Ellen and my mom go into the kitchen to grab a bottle of wine and glasses. We go to my room and she points towards a bag with light blue tissue paper sticking out of it sitting on my bed.
“Open it!” She says, excitedly. I pull the wrapping paper out and pull out a light blue t-shirt. I unfold it and it has 3 words on it. The first one, ‘Girlfriend’ is crossed out, the second one, ‘Fiance’ is scribbled out and the last one is ‘Wifey’ in a fancy script. There are black pajama pants in the bag too.
“Awe Mads, I love it so much. This really still doesn’t seem real that I’m gonna be Jack’s wife. Guess I have to get used to being introduced as his wife to people now, huh?” She smiles and leaves me to put the pajamas on. My phone buzzes and I grab it off the night table, seeing Jack’s name on the screen.
Jack💙: Hey Baby, just wanted to let you know that I love you a lot and I can’t wait to have you asleep on my chest tonight :)
I smile and send back a red heart. He reads the message and I shut my phone off. Mads walks back into the room, sporting a shirt the same shade of blue as mine and the same pajama pants. Her shirt has 3 words too but none are crossed out. The words are ‘Best friend’, ‘Sista’ and ‘Maid of Honor’.
“Awe Mads, these shirts are too cute. I love them.” She smiles and hugs me.
“I know I’ve already said it but I’m so so so excited for tomorrow! You’re gonna be Mrs. Jack Hughes in less than 24 hours!” She squeals, jumping up and down. I laugh and jump with her.
“I know I know I know! Now let’s go downstairs and watch a movie with my mom and future mother in law.” She laughs and takes my hand as we run downstairs. Ellen and my mom are both sitting on the couch, glasses of wine in their hands, “Bridesmaids’ pulled up on the TV. Madi and I both flop on the couch and I grab the blanket Jack had given me as a joke for my birthday. It had a picture of him, Trev, and Turcs from when they won Worlds 2 years ago. It was a picture they had actually sent to me but they looked really little and it always made me laugh. I wrap myself in the blanket and snuggle into the couch. The evening is uneventful with the moms going to bed as soon as the movie is over and Madi and I turning on ‘Friends’ after. Madi falls asleep after about two episodes and I stay up, sort of waiting for the boys to get home, mainly just not wanting to go to bed because I know I won’t be able to sleep because of the excitement I’m feeling. My eyes are just starting to close when headlights flash through the window. The car doors slam and I hear the front door open, the boys coming in quieter than I expected. I walk out to the hallway and watch Trev, Alex, and Quinn head upstairs, probably going straight to bed, trying to avoid the hangover I know they’ll all have tomorrow morning. Luke walks in, my dad and Jim not far behind.
“Hey, Char, Jack’s waiting for you down at the dock.” I nod and smile.
“The moms and Madi are all asleep. I’m gonna go get Alex or Trev and have them take her up to bed.” The dads nod.
“I can get her. Actually, better have Alex do it. He’s the least drunk out of the two.” I laugh and nod, heading upstairs to get Alex. I push his door open, seeing him on his phone.
“Hey Turcs, go down and get your girlfriend. She’s asleep on the couch.” He puts his phone down and rubs his eyes.
“Alright, I got it. Go have fun with your lover boy.” I smile and leave his room. I grab the blanket off the couch before heading out the back door and walking down to the dock. Jack is sitting in one of the chairs, his head leaning back against it.
“Hey baby, how was tonight?” He turns around, a smile on his face.
“It was fun. I drank the least out of everyone and Quinn tried to get a girl to come home with him. Luke had a ton of fun watching Quinn, Alex, and Trev act like idiots the whole night.” I smile, glad the boys had fun.
“I’m glad you had fun tonight. Bubs, I’m so excited for tomorrow.” I say, settling on his lap with the blanket wrapped around me. He kisses the side of my neck and I can feel the smile on his lips.
“Baby girl, I know. I’m excited too. You know, I’ve been thinking about this day since I met you. You’ve always been my dream girl. I’ve never wanted anyone else. I’m so excited to be able to introduce you to all the big important New Jersey people as my wife.” I smile, turning my head to kiss him.
“Jack, I love you. I always will.” I say as I pull away.
“I love you, Charlie Grace.” He says as I hear running footsteps down the dock.
“Dad says you two probably need to be heading to bed. Since we have to be up and finish getting stuff ready for tomorrow.” Luke says, stomping down to where Jack and I are sitting. I look up and nod.
“Can I have one last hug Dukes? Before I’m related to you?” He laughs and nods. I stand up, leaving the blanket on Jack’s lap. I pull Luke into a hug and he wraps his arms around me. I gently kiss his cheek and pull away.
“Love you, Baby Hughes. We’ll be in soon.” He nods and heads back inside. I settle myself back on Jack’s lap, wrapping my arms around his neck. He holds me close and I close my eyes. His thumb gently rubs my knee, giving me an overall sense of calm. I can feel Jack placing gently, soft kisses up and down my neck.
“Honey, if you keep that up, I’m gonna fall asleep out here and you’ll have to carry me inside. So we should probably go inside.” I can feel him smile and he starts to move.
“Okay, sweet girl. Let’s go inside.” He lifts me up off his lap and wraps the blanket around me a little tighter.
“Aren’t you glad I bought you that blanket? You use it all the time.” I laugh, leaning into his chest as we walk up to the dark house. The only light on is the back porch light and the light in our room. Jack leads me up the stairs and into our bedroom.
“You know, technically, this is like the opposite of how the night before our wedding is supposed to be.” I say, flopping on our bed.
“Sweet girl, you realize nothing about any of this is normal. We’re 18...Getting Married tomorrow...And moving in together next week. Babe, it’s all the opposite of how things go.” Jack says, pulling his shirt off and grabbing a pair of sweats out of the dresser. He replaces his jeans with the sweats and I bite my lip, smiling at Jack.
“Okay okay, hold up. We’ll save that, the best thing, for tomorrow.”He says, laying down next to me and wrapping his arm around my waist, and pulling the covers over us. He kisses my cheek and rolls over to turn the bedside light off. The dark envelops us and I close my eyes. The next thing I know, Jack is kissing me awake.
“Morning sweet girl. The boys and I are heading to the hotel. I can’t wait to see you. 6 more hours until I get to call mine. For good.” I sit up and kiss him, cupping his face. He gives me one last smile then heads out the door. I roll over, feeling the excitement wash over me all over again. Madi comes bouncing into my room, with my mom and Ellen not far behind.
“It’s your wedding day, it’s your wedding day!” Madi sings, jumping on the bed next to me. I smile and Mom looks at me with the same misty eye look she’s been giving me since Jack and I announced to our family.
“Alright my gorgeous girl, time to start getting ready! Let’s make you more beautiful!” Madi pulls me downstairs and drops me into the armchair in the living room. She hands me a black robe and two other ladies walk into the room.
“This is Linda and Mary. They’re gonna do your hair and makeup for today.” I nod and go into the bathroom to put on the robe. I come back out and Madi is sitting in one of the chairs at the island. Ellen and Mom are both double-checking on the dresses, making sure they’re ready for us to put on when we’re finished. I sit down next to Madi and the woman I think is named Mary starts running a brush through my hair. She turns on a curling wand and begins the two braids that I had decided on with Madi last week. She braids my hair and then curls what’s left down. I look over at Madi and she looks amazing. Her makeup looks perfect for her. But with her crazy messy bun, she looks kinda crazy. I laugh and she giggles.
“Dude your hair looks so good. I love it so much.” She says, standing up and moving to where I’m sitting.
“Thanks, girl. Your makeup looks so great but you look kinda crazy.” Mom and Ellen both laugh and Mads and I switch places. Linda starts on my makeup, going with the basic but still done up look Madi had decided on for me. I close my eyes, letting the makeup artist do her work. A few minutes later, Mom is handing me my phone.
“It’s Trev.” She says, walking away and going to get her hair done.
“Hey buddy, what’s up?” I ask, glancing at him on my phone.
“Um well...We can’t find Jack.” My heart drops.
“What? You’re joking right?” He rubs the back of his neck.
“I wish I was joking...He got all ready and we were heading downstairs to go to the car and he just disappeared. He won’t answer any phone calls or texts. Oh wait, Alex found him. Never mind, we’re good.” I take a deep breath and roll my eyes.
“Trev, remind me to kill you when this is all over. Are all of you boys ready? Is Luke’s tie tied? The right way?” Trev nods and smiles at me.
“You look gorgeous, Charlie. I love you, see you in a few.” I smile and blow a kiss to him. I hang up the phone and Madi looks at me.
“Okay, now let the poor lady finish and stop worrying, Charlotte Grace.” I laugh and close my eyes.
“We have to leave in 45 minutes. Charlie, you’re just going to put your dress and everything else on when we get to the building. Your flowers, the boys, and everything else is already there.” Ellen says, checking her phone. I nod and Linda sighs.
“Young lady, I’m never going to be able to finish your makeup if you don’t sit still.” I suck my lips in and remain as still as I can be. Finally, after about 10 more minutes, Linda finishes the last part of my makeup.
“Alright Charlotte, we’re all done. Mary and I will be at the venue to provide any last-minute touch-ups needed for you, Madi, or the mothers.” I smile in thanks and then head upstairs to finish packing up everything I need to take to the venue with us. I grab The Blanket off the bed and fold it, sticking it in the bottom of my bag. I grab my shoes and my extra clothes bag. Mom and Ellen are waiting in the car with Madi and the dress bags. I pull on Jack’s sweats from last night so my legs aren’t exposed under the robe. I head downstairs, grab a blackberry Hint from the fridge, the first thing I’ve eaten or drank all day, and head outside. Madi had ordered food for us that was going to be waiting at the venue so I would have something to eat before all the excitement. I slip into the back seat next to Madi and she smiles.
“I just got off the phone with Alex and Trev. They locked Jack, Luke, and Quinn all in a room. Q and Luke are making sure he doesn’t escape and keeping him entertained. Your dad and Jim are double checking all last minute things and our food is ready in your room.” I smile in thanks and look out the window.
“You’ve been pretty quiet today, Char. You okay? Not getting cold feet or anything, right?” Mom asks, turning around to look me in the eyes.
“No, no. I’m fine. I’m excited. I love Jack, I could never dream of marrying anyone else. It just still doesn’t seem real.” Mom smiles.
“I remember having the same feeling on my wedding day. I’m sure Ellen does too. It will seem real very soon. Speaking of which, you’re still planning on doing the first look with the boys right?” I nod and look back out the window. The venue, a small building on the grounds of the country club the boys usually worked out at when they were up here, was gorgeous on the outside. It was decorated with white lights and covered with sweet pea vines. It looked like something out of a fairy tale.
“Alright baby, let’s get you into the building. There’s a door on the side of the building, see that path there, that leads to the womans’ room. Head in there and Ellen and I will go see where all the boys are. Madi, help her get into her dress.” Madi grabs both dress bags from the trunk and follows me inside. The room is a farm girl’s dream. Everything is modeled after a farmhouse vibe and is part of the reason I love it so much. Mads hangs the dress bags up and then turns to look at me.
“This is the big moment. We get to complete the princess transformation. This is even better than the prom!” She squeals as I sit down on the couch.
“You put your dress on first. I wanna see how your dress looks on you before I put mine on.” The door to the room opens and Mrs. Turcotte sneaks in.
“Just gonna snap a few “before” pictures.” She says, smiling and positioning herself. Madi grabs her dress and slips into the connected bathroom. I pick at the chicken salad that had sounded so good a few hours ago. Now, the nerves are suddenly bubbling up. What if Jack and I aren’t meant to be? What if this was a bad idea and we don’t work out? I shake my head, clearing those thoughts away as the door opens to the bathroom. Mad steps out, looking like something out of a dream. I gasp and Turcs’ mom snaps away. Madi twirls, letting the dress flow out around her.
“I seriously love this dress. I may have to just get it in white for my wedding.” Mama Turcs and I laugh.
“Oh please girl, don’t you and Alex go pulling something on me like this. This is wonderful for Jack and Charlie but I don’t know if I could handle it.” I smile.
“You’re right Mama Turcs. It takes a special kinda love to do this as young as they are. I love Turcs but yeah no.” We all laugh and I take a sip from my water. Madi looks at me and shakes her head.
“Stop it, Char. Just eat your food.” I look up at her, glad she can read me so well.
“I know.” She points at my food, which suddenly sounds good again and I start to eat. I hear a knock on the door and Mrs. Turcotte goes to answer it.
“Mom, is Madi in there? I need to talk to her. It’s kinda important…” I hear Alex ask. Madi walks towards the door and steps outside. Ellen walks in, wearing the light blue dress that matches with the blue that’s scattered randomly around the venue. Mom and Ellen both went dress shopping together a few weeks ago for their dresses and both picked out pretty ones that look really good on them in the light blue color Jack and I decided on.
“Alright Charlotte, we’ve got about 30 minutes till the first look. We decided we’ll do a private one with just you, Jack and Shelly. Then we’ll do the one with Trevor, Alex, Quinn, and Luke afterwards. We figured you’d want to see Jack first.” I nod and continue to eat. Madi comes back in.
“Okay, the boys are ready whenever you are. Jack is freaking out but in a good way. I swear, if that boy doesn’t cry when he sees you, I’m dragging you out to the car and we’re running away.” I laugh and hug her.
“I know Mads. How’d Alex handle seeing you all dolled up?” She rolls her eyes.
“He wanted to make out with me right there. Like boy, I have all this fancy makeup and you’re trying to ruin it? No thank you!” I laugh and she nods, a smile that hasn’t left her face all day, still there.
“Okay, you’re done now. Let’s go put on your dress, please? Mama Turcs has some pictures she wants to do. Uh, has Trev came by yet?” I shake my head as she follows me into the bathroom with my dress bag. My dress was about the plainest wedding dress I had ever seen but it looked gorgeous on me. I had fallen in love with it the second I had tried it on plus, it had pockets, my one requirement of any dress I wore. The top half was lacy and delicate with thin straps that crisscrossed in the back. The skirt and train was an almost ivory tulle fabric layered to fall just perfectly. My veil would be pinned in just above the two braids and my shoes were ivory heels with a square heel so they wouldn’t break while I was walking around in the grass. Madi and I had gotten pedicures and manicures two days before and my fingernails and toenails were a very light pink, almost no color at all. I closed my eyes as I slipped the robe and Jack’s sweatpants off. I had to put on nude underwear and a weird bra thing before putting the dress on. I put both on and turned to Madi. She’s holding the dress, ready to help zip it up. I slip it on and let it fall. It feels nice against my skin. She zips it up and I look in the mirror.
“Oh my gosh.” Is all I can say as I cover my mouth, biting my tongue to hold back the tears. Madi stands to the side of me and smiles.
“You’re ready Charlie. And I just wanna say, we did a pretty good job picking this stuff out. I mean come on,” She says, grabbing my hand where the engagement ring from Jack rests.
“You picked the perfect boy, he picked the perfect ring, and we picked the perfect dress. Tell me this isn’t your dream?” I smile, still fighting the tears, and turn around to hug her.
“Thank you, Madi, for being my best friend every step of the way. I love you.” She squeezes me and I can feel the smile on her face.
“Love you too, now stop it before you and I are both in tears and ruin the gorgeous makeup job Linda did.” I laugh and take a deep breath. I follow Madi out into the room where my mom, Ellen, Mrs. Turcotte, Dad, and Jim are all waiting. They all gasp and smile when I walk out. Dad and Mom both cover their mouths, fighting tears. Ellen is already crying, Jim has a smile on his face, hugging her to his side.
“Darling girl, you look gorgeous. Jack is going to be awestruck when he sees you.” Dad says, coming to hug me.
“Thanks, Daddy-o. You look pretty spiffy yourself.” He smiles and kisses my cheek softly.
“Now I know this isn’t tradition but Trevor asked me if he could walk you down the aisle. He would’ve asked you himself but he’s not allowed to see you right now. What do you think?” Dad asks, looking at me as Madi is pinning my veil on.
“I mean, we’ve done everything else in our lives together, might as well do this. But I totally get to walk him down at his wedding.” Everyone laughs and I smile, the most genuine smile I’ve felt all day.
“Alright, we have a little area set up just a short walk that way, we’re going to meet Jack over there.” Mama Turcs says as I finish checking myself in the mirror. She points in the direction I had seen the boys walking when we pulled up. I nod and head out the door, wrapped in The Blanket. I find the little gazebo where Jack and I had said ‘I love you’ for the first time, 2 summers ago. It was all decorated with white lights and white flowers. Jack is standing in the center, a box in his hand, and a light blue blindfold over his eyes. I smile, seeing the smile on his face and unwrap myself from the blanket, folding it up and handing it to Madi who heads back towards the building.
“Alright Charlie, when you’re ready, you can go ahead and take the blindfold off of Jack. I’ll be taking pictures the whole time.” I smile and nod. I take a deep breath and step forwards.
“Charlie? Before you take off the blindfold, I want you to open the box. It’s a present from me and the boys. Mainly me.” He smiles under the blindfold. I take the box from him and open it. Inside is the most beautiful necklace. It’s a teardrop-shaped pendant with a diamond in the center, surrounded by tiny gold and diamond pieces. It sparkles in the sun.
“Baby, I love it. Thank you.” I say, leaning in and kissing him.
“You’ll have to help me put it on once you can see me.” He laughs and I smile.
“Are you ready to let me see you?” He asks, his face growing serious but soft. I smile and reach behind his head to untie the blindfold. The blindfold drops and he blinks. His eyes widen and his mouth drops open. He covers it with his hand and I watch the tears grow in his eyes.
“Bub, you look beautiful. I...I can’t even put into words what I’m feeling right now. You look so good!” He says, almost jumping back and pumping his fist. He runs his hand through his hair and he grabs my hands, pulling me in.
“Jack! I love you!” He laughs and comes back to me, hugging me close.
“I don’t wanna mess up your lipstick again but can I please kiss you? That’s the only appropriate thing I wanna do right now.” He says, giggling and wrapping his arms around my waist. I giggle right back and he leans in, kissing me. His tongue slips in my mouth and I almost moan, but remember that Turcs’ mom is literally 10 feet away with a camera. Jack finally pulls away, but not before exploring every corner of my mouth with his tongue.
“I just, you’re so beautiful. And so, so damn sexy, mama.” I laugh and he interlocks our fingers, walking back down the path with Mrs. Turcotte snapping the whole way.
“Ready to face your brother and my brothers?” I roll my eyes and nod.
“Baby, I just wanna be married already. I wanna be Mrs. Jack Hughes.” He rolls his eyes back and audibly moans in my ear. I bite my lip.
“That’s the sexiest thing you’ve ever said to me.” He says, kissing my cheek as we walk up behind the boys and Madi. Madi raises her eyebrows, asking me if I’m ready to reveal myself to them.
“Alright, boys, ready to see your sister? She looks hot as hell.” Madi says, crossing her arms and looking at the four boys standing in front of her.
“3, 2, 1, look!” They all four turn around and their faces are about as priceless as Madi’s was earlier.
“Holy crap Char, you look so good! Like damn!” Luke says, nudging Trev whose mouth is stuck open.
“Damn Charlie, you look amazing! I’m impressed!” Quinn says, dabbing me up as I laugh.
“Yeah really Char, you look awesome!” Alex says, coming to hug me. I hug him, smiling at Trev who is still awestruck.
“Hi, bubby, what do you think?” I ask, unattaching myself from Alex and walking over to him
“Wow sis, you look so good. Like so good! I’m so proud of you and I love you so much. Look I’m crying!” He says, pointing at the tears running down his face. I laugh and pull him into a hug. He gently kisses the top of my head.
“Oh, and I hear you said yes to letting me walk you down the aisle? Good.” He says, pulling away but leaving his arm slung around my shoulders. Jack takes my hand and I smile. These are the people I’m choosing to spend the rest of my life with. And I’m so excited to see where I go with them.
“Alright gang, time to take my favorite wedding pictures. Alex, can you go in and get the box of flowers on the table? It has all the boutonnieres and the girls’ flowers. We’ll need them.” He nods, heading inside to grab them. Mrs. Turcotte starts positioning all of us for the first few photos. She puts Jack and I in the middle, Madi and eventually Alex on my left, Trev in the middle, down in front of Jack and I, then Quinn and Luke on Jack’s side. The parents fill in around us and Jack leans in and kisses me. Alex somehow manages to slip my flowers into my hand and Mrs. Turcotte snaps away. We go through so many poses then Mom checks the time.
“Alright Hughes-Zegras family and Co., this wedding starts in 10 minutes. Let’s get inside and get all situated. Trevor, you’re walking your sister down the aisle, correct?” Trev nods and turns to me. He sticks his arm out and I link mine through it. Jack kisses my cheek and whispers, “I can’t wait to see you walk down that aisle, future Mrs. Hughes.” I smile and kiss him quickly. Quinn and Luke follow him inside and stand at the end of the aisle, waiting for our parents to be sitting down and all ready. The preacher is already in position and waiting. The music, an acoustic version of ‘I Won’t Give Up’ by Jason Marz, without words is playing softly. Jack and I both loved that song and had kind of declared it our song. It also described the way Jack and I wanted our relationship to be. Jack walks down the aisle and stands, ready for me to come. Quinn and Luke walk down next. Luke trips and almost wipes out. I cough to contain my laugh and he looks back at me, giving me a thumbs up. I smirk and nod to Madi and Alex. They start their walk down the aisle.
“You ready baby sis? You can still back out. I’ll hide the evidence of Jack’s body.” I laugh and shake my head.
“Come on, bubby, let’s do this.” Trevor sticks his arm out again and I loop mine through it. We begin a slow march down the aisle. Trev pulls me close to him and hugs me, kissing my cheek then handing me off to Jack who’s waiting with a smile. He takes my hand and we turn to face the preacher. He launches into the whole “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today...” speech. Jack keeps leaning over and whispering “You’re mine tonight” in my ear. I bite my lip and catch Madi’s eye. She grins, knowing exactly what’s going on.
“Trevor, the rings please.” Trev pulls the two ring boxes out of his tux pocket and hands them to Jack and I. We remove the rings and hand them back to Trev.
“Now it is time for the couple to share their vows. Jack, you first.” Jack pulls a folded piece of paper out of his pocket and clears his throat.
“Charlotte Grace, you’re my soulmate. I’ve known that since the day I first met you. I have loved you since the beginning. With this ring I’m about to give to you, I give you my promise to hold on to you no matter what and to never let go. I promise to love you no matter what. I promise to take care of you, no matter what’s wrong. I’ll keep you safe. I’ll be there. I’ll be your shoulder to cry on. Charlie, you’ll never be alone. I love you.” He finishes, slipping the ring on my finger. I smile, the tears forming in my eyes mirroring those in Jack’s. I catch Madi, Mom, and Ellen all wiping tears as Jack and I exchange a smile.
“Okay, my turn!” Everyone laughs as I pull out the paper I had worked on for weeks beforehand.
“Jack Hughes. The golden boy. Mr. Perfect. The love of my life. To this day, I’ll always hold on to the first time I was introduced to you. You made some dumb snarky comment and it was all I could to keep myself from falling in love with you. Thanks, Trev, by the way.” Everyone laughs and I smile, winking at Trev over Jack’s shoulder.
“But Jack, I love you beyond a shadow of a doubt. There’s nothing that could ever change the way I feel about you. I’ll love you forever, Jack. Through sickness and health, through victory and defeat, through trials and trades; through everything. With this ring, I give you all those promises. I’m trusting you with me. Everything I am. You’re all I want and I am genuinely so excited to get to spend the rest of my life with you.” Jack’s crying now, I’m crying now, everybody’s crying. I grab Jack’s hand and slip the ring on his finger. I blink and slow the tears. Jack takes a deep breath and regains his composure.
“And now, by the power vested in me by the state of Toronto, I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.” Jake dips me down and kisses me. Everyone cheers and he lifts me back up, the smile on his face matching mine. We walk back down the aisle to the song ‘Best Day of My Life’ by Imagine Dragons. Everyone else follows us out and gathers in the hallway as Jack and I go ahead into the reception hall. Across the hall from the room we held the wedding in, is the reception room. After Jack and I had a few minutes to regroup and to share a few kisses not appropriate for in front of our families, they’re allowed in and sat at the long table set up for us. Jack and I sit at the head, Madi to my left and Trev to Jack’s right. Alex is next to Madi, Quinn and Luke are on Trev’s side, with my new in-laws next to them. Dad and Mom are next to Alex and all I can do is smile. We all get drinks, champagne of course since it is a celebration, resulting in Luke getting a little too excited to “try his first drink”, even though I’m pretty sure everyone knows about what goes on at NDTP parties. Madi stands up and gets everyone quiet.
“So, since you guys are now officially married and you’re Charlie Hughes now, we’ve planned a little surprise for you two. Each of us has prepared a speech that we’d like to give and then there’s gifts from each of us. I’m going first.” She says, staring the boys down. Jack and I laugh and he interlaces our fingers, resting our hands on his knee.
“Charlotte Grace, you’ve always been my best friend. Since as far back as I can remember, it’s been you and me. Well and Trev but he usually was too cool to hang out with us. But I always knew that we were inseparable. There was no one else I’d rather tell my secrets to, cry over boys with, laugh with. You are my soulmate and will forever hold a very special place in my heart. Now you’re married, which was scary, at first. I thought I was going to lose you. But I know, no matter what happens, you will always be my person and things will never change between us. I love you so much. Now Jack. You changed Charlie’s world. I had never heard her talk about a boy the way she did you. You treat her with the love and care that she deserves. And although she may drive you crazy, I know you do love her so much. And if she ever gets to be too much to handle, I’m just a call away.” Everyone laughs and I lean my head on Jack’s shoulder.
“I honestly thought this was just some crazy idea you had to try and get her to come with you to Jersey, at first. But now I know, you really do love her and not only want but need her in your life. So thank you Jack, for taking care of and loving my soulmate, sister and best friend as much, if not more than I do. I love you both, congratulations.” Madi finishes, tears in her eyes and mine as she hugs me then sits back down.
“Okay, best man’s turn.” Quinn says, nudging Trev as he stands up.
“So it took me forever to figure out what I was gonna say. I mean, talking about my kid sister and my idiot of a best friend? Oh boy we’re in for it.” We all laugh and Trev smirks, looking up from the paper he’s reading from.
“But then I thought about it. These two people, two people I love more than anyone else in the world, decided that they loved each other enough to decide to spend the rest of their lives together, and for that, I couldn’t be more proud to call Charlie my sister and Jack, not only my best friend but now my brother. Now I’m gonna tell you a little bit about what it was like in the beginning, although pretty much all of you were around for it. I always kinda figured Jack would be the one of us to settle down first. I mean, he started dating my sister basically as soon as we all moved into town for NDTP. But I definitely wasn’t expecting it to be this soon. Or that I would be standing at my baby sister’s wedding a month before her 19th birthday. But I love Jack and Charlie. They make each other happy. Jack makes my sister the happiest I have ever seen her, even happier than when I got my license and was able to drive her to get food all the time.” Everyone laughs and I smile at Trev.
“Plus, getting to see my girls all dressed up and looking beautiful is always great.” He says, looking at Madi and I and winking.
“Boys, not too shabby either. But anyway, congratulations to Jack and Charlie. May you have the happiest life, the life you both deserve.” Trev raises his glass and everyone toasts Jack and I. Luke and Quinn stand up next.
“Hi everyone, you all know us. We’re the comedic relief. Or Dumb and Dumber, as Charlie so affectionately calls us. We’ve had the luck of getting to watch Charlie and Jack from the beginning. Charlie was this super awesome, really funny, drop dead gorgeous girl that Jack would not shut up about. But, like always, Jack was a little scary cat and wouldn’t do anything about it. So, with some scheming, meddling and a whole lot of intervention and teamwork from Madi, Alex, Luke, Trev and I, we made it happen. And now, we’re here today, celebrating two of the very few people I don’t hate. Congratulations, we love you both, and welcome to the Hughes family, Char.” I smile and hug Quinn and Luke both. They pat Jack on the shoulder and sit back down. Madi nudges Alex and he coughs, standing up.
“Um...So I’ll be honest, Madi wrote my speech.” Alex starts, smirking as Mads nods and we all laugh.“Just like 95% of things I do, I put it off until the last minute and probably wouldn’t have done it if she hadn’t finally done it for me. But anyways, I owe the two of you a huge thank you. You two are the entire reason I even have Madi. Charlie, you told me to go for it, Jack, you helped me realize how much I need her. And now, getting to see the two people who made sure I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, now get to be this happy? Makes me feel so awesome. So thank you, so much. Jack, we’ve been buddies for a while now. Charlie rocked your world the second she stepped into it, 2 years ago. You’ve never been the same and Charlie is the reason. Charlie, you’re the sister I never had. Congratulations to you two, I love you both.” I smile and hug Alex.
