Age: It's complicated

There are students who study anatomy to save lives, and those who study it to understand them. Gabriel falls somewhere in between. Thrust back into a world that moved on without him- and into a realm stranger than what he once knew- he dissects not only materials, but meaning itself. Perhaps, somewhere along the way, he'll come to understand himself, too.

Right, I think its about time we got a full update on what Gabriel has been up to since revival, now don't we.

⚰️ Post Revival

Being dead for years is bound to put a damper on anyone’s experience. Being brought back from that death without your knowing of it is a whole other matter. Gabriel awoke to a world of confusion, memories a set of puzzle pieces he could not assemble. He was left to rely solely on the assistance of strangers, no matter who they claimed to be, in a world he did not recognize.

He knows bits and pieces- the Surface, the Port, the shape of a mother’s smile, the comfort of a home long lost- but the rest, the full of it, is missing.

It’s a shaking thing, not to know who you are in your own skin.

⏳ Early Neath Days

Gabriel's earliest months were shaped by confusion and anxiety. Thankful as ever that Josephine, his sister, had found him a place to stay with a friend, he spent many days indoors, unsure of what lay outside of them. He took notes on everything, refining his reading and handwriting, pouring over newspapers and published papers, taking meticulous notes in an effort to understand the world around him.

When Josephine visited, he began to asked questions - but he could tell when he was not getting the full answers.

In time, he slowly ventured out more and more, first with accompaniment, and then on his own. The sky- no, the roof- above glittered in the distance, the glow of lamplight soft and smothering, obscuring everything in long shadows.

He had hoped that understanding the world might bring clarity. But instead, he felt only more adrift, his sense of self a curling confusion, drifting like candle smoke. He would stare at his hands and wonder: what lies beneath them?

📚 Time at the University

It was after a year that Gabriel found himself looking for a further way to understand things - and that brought him to the door of the university. What does one do when they feel alien in their own flesh? Turn to the study of it, of course. The body fascinated him now, filled with questions that demanded answers.

It was difficult, being in a place where he’d always be in his sister’s shadow, but at least in another department, he might find a measure of distance.

He took to his classes well, even if his uncertaintity never quite left him. That quiet, fretful undercurrent will take time to unlearn. An... incident... alone in the laboratory led him to only more questions of what lies beneath his own skin now [Shinning and repairing and alien all at once-]. What does revival do to a person? Of that he has little answers still.

But perhaps, in the process, medicine will allow him to help others, even if not himself, not just yet.

What does it matter if Theseus' ship is no longer the same, if it still traverses the water?
