Andromeda.

I used to dabble a bit in astrophotography. To be honest, it's a lot of work in the dead of night. Multiple trips to carry everything outside, multiple trips to carry everything back inside. Sometimes at three o'clock in the morning when I should be sleeping.

There are much better pictures of Andromeda on the internet, but I was happy with this. Kitchener, Ontario Canada. D.e.D.

So first question! Can doey actually taste anything?

Gonna take this ask as an opportunity to answer all of these all at once :00 @tallahatchet @sadowmaster (sorry for the tag sjshsjh-)

Yes, Doey CAN taste things. Though I'd assume after years of consuming just uh... meat... That tasting must be kind of dull for him. So when he has the chance to eat anything other than that, it's a whole new world opening up to him. Taste buds explosion kind of situation, you know?

Besides, Matthew knew of the food outside of Playcare (whatever it was that they served there), and Jack lived with it, so the adaptation time of tasting "new" things doesn't take Doey long... But Kevin??? My poor boy's only ever known the food in the orphanage. I think he'd be very emotional about their discoveries.

As for favorite foods, Doey's would be the three boys favorites. Which are as follows for Matthew, Jack and Kevin (in order):

Your skin was being tickled by the warm blanket you were on, your legs in the warm grass with your eyes staring above you. The sun was down and the moon was up, the sky decorated by hundreds of stars. Like always, you were fascinated. The stars were there every night, shining brightly, causing your eyes to glow. 

You didn’t know why stars fascinated you that way. Maybe it was the way each one had a story, or how they seemed more shiny every new night. No matter what the reason was, you didn’t want it to stop. Astronomy has been your reason to live for years, waiting patiently for every rise of the moon just to scan the sky, looking for your favorite constellation.

There was only one thing you loved more than the stars, one thing you wouldn’t admit to yourself. “Hey you.” Your head turned to the right, your thoughts interrupted by your best friend installing himself beside you. “What are you doing out there ? It’s a cold night, you’re going to get a cold.”

You giggled slightly at the concern, being a typical Pope. With him caring too much, you couldn’t stop your heart from fluttering. “Watching the stars.” and that was typical of you. Even at day the Pogues could find you staring at the sky, saying the stars are there, just not visible. 

The boy laid down beside you, his elbow touching yours. You two stayed there in a comfortable silence for a few minutes, just admiring the beauty of the night. Eventually, Pope turned to you, a curious look in his eyes. ‘’So, you. It’s been years and I still don’t know why you’re so in love with stars.’’

You turned to meet his eyes before looking back at the dark sky, thinking for a few seconds. ‘’I don't know.’’ Your eyes fell back on him, ‘’I think it’s because they all have their own history.’’

The boy raised an eyebrow, looking at your bright eyes, before looking at the stars as you followed his gaze. ‘’Uh-Uh. Which history is your favorite?’’

Which was your favorite ? That was a good question. Perhaps it was Sirius, for being the brightest star. Maybe Alpha Centauri, the closest to the earth. Or maybe the history of the astrological signs. Eventually, as your eyes met the brown guy again, you came to a conclusion. 

‘’Andromeda.’’

Once again, Pope’s head turned towards you. He didn’t need to talk for you to understand he wanted the why, why this one and not another ? 

‘’Andromeda, also called ‘The Chained Lady.’ Never heard of it?’’, at your words, Pope shook his head, making you continue your words ; ‘’Stars almost always go with Greek mythology. Here, it’s about a woman, Andromeda. After doing something, she got chained to a rock to be eaten by the sea monster.’’ 

You stopped in your words, your eyes registering his facial expression. ‘’I know, not joyful. But wait. She got saved by Perseus and became HIS queen.’’ You looked back at the sky, pretending to look for it, even though you knew you couldn’t see it. ‘’My dad used to tell me it was the constellation of love. She keeps stars, supposed to enlighten us with gentleness and beauty. I think it’s like…The protector of love.’’

You noticed the soft look in Pope’s eyes, somehow your story about Andromeda got to him. That didn’t really surprise you, Pope always was the kind to listen to your story, even the most crazy ones, and have the sweetest smile on his face. Sometimes teasing you about them, sometimes asking questions, and today seemed like the second option ; “You love stars, but you love the love more, is that it ?” 

You nodded slowly, feeling butterflies in your stomach by the fact he understood. You have known him for a long time, you were in third grades. But lately, he started asking you more and more about your love for things, for astronomy, and that made you love him a bit more. “I love the love.”

Pope smiled and looked at you, thinking about how he loved stars as well, but for different reasons. The reasons he loved the shining dark sky is because of the way your eyes lit up every time you mention them. The way they are making your eyes glow, here under the night sky, causing your eyes to be even prettier than usually.  The way you knew every single story, every constellation. The way they always fascinated you, your love for them not budging during the years.

You loves stars, and you love Andromeda for being the ‘protector of love’, as you called it. He loves you for your passion with stars, and your ability to shine even more than Sirius.

And with that simple thought, Pope settled beside you, his eyes closed and a soft smile on his lips. And you stayed there, your eyes still on the stars, the same soft smile on your lips as your carefully slipped in his arms.

'Thanks Andromeda, for bringing me this love.', you thought as your eyes closed too.
