#outing yaz is bs

Yaz is cool as fuck and people don’t appreciate her enough, a very long ramble
TLDR because this is so long: yaz is really cool and a compelling character and not enough people talk about how good of a character she is, both with and without the doctor, enough
In the first episode we learn as soon as we meet her that yaz wants to help people. She is tired of getting parking disputes and wants something more serious, and after meeting the doctor immediately starts helping her even if she isn’t supposed to be, and later it’s implied (I don’t think it was ever confirmed?) that she originally became a cop because one helped her when she had ran away/was suicidal, maybe?
Throughout season 11 we see her be the most empathetic/caring (episode 3 with the racism Ryan specially was facing, episode 6 with her grandma’s first husband, episode 7 with dan from kerblam, 8 with the kid who’s grandma was killed for “being a witch”, 9 with the blind kid), and is also very loyal almost immediately (“more of the universe.. more time with you!” “No. I’m with you, whatever happens” and more I’m forgetting)
She also has a very similar sense of justice to the doctor, practically immediately and comes to share her view on a lot of topics (she was hesitant to take the gun in TPOTD, she wrote wwtdd(which is adorable btw) on her palm, she defended Tesla, stands up to the master, once again more I’m forgetting probably)- hell, when seperated from the doctor without instructions/for a long time she takes 13s place as leader
Circling back to loyalty: she spent 10 months obsessively trying to find the doctor, she slept in the second tardis, she probably (I think it’s implied?) neglected her own health, social life, and job (if she still had one at this point) just to obsessively try and figure out how that tardis worked, to figure out how to get back to the doctor
And that was after she walked into a portal to an alien planet, not caring about danger because it’s what the doctor would do if it were one of them (she was already half way there by the time Graham finished asking who was going first, walking quickly and had a very determined look on her face. I really do believe if it had come down to facing the master or cybermen she would’ve to ensure 13s safety), which btw, is one of my favorite scenes in the show
And then s13. Gods I think I could talk about yaz in season 13 and those last 3 specials for days. A) Dan is more her companion than docs, let’s be very clear- they spent 3 years trapped in an unfamiliar time together with yaz acting as the leader (see above about her taking on the Doctor’s role when the doctor isn’t there to)
She handles 13’s outbursts and venom astonishingly well through the whole series but esp in s13, when she is double guessing her identity and even more unwilling to share than before, like it’s downright elegant that yaz is able to ignore 13s jabs sometimes, cuz personally I would’ve thrown hands. Although she doesn’t let the doctor walk over her, she doesn’t just accept the bullshit, she argues with the doctor quite a bit (telling her she is fully at fault for the situation at the beginning of s13 ep 1, telling her to stop leaving them all the time, shoving her when she shows back up after the 10 months)
As mentioned before the “what would the doctor do” being written on her hand is a really good touch and it does well to show just how much yaz looks up to 13 and how much she loves her (a very much amount, like infinitely)
This is getting very long so I’ll try to wrap it up somewhat quickly. Anyway, I really love yaz’s coming out scene (although I detest Dan outing her), it feels very natural and is filled with a lot of great emotions that we don’t see her have very much- like, she cries! Yaz, while shown having emotions, isn’t shown sad very often (which considering she was depressed as a younger teen and might still be, could just be her repressing those emotions) and is shown as scared much less, it’s nice to see those emotions on display
Speaking of emotions on display: “stop leaving us” is one of my favorite scenes/lines. Getting to see just how anxious yaz gets when the doc leaves, just how much she hates being separated from her, is a really nice insight to how she thinks- the doctor has already left her twice before (neither times were her fault, though) so who’s to say it won’t happen again? Easier to stay by 13 than to be crushed by her disappearing without warning
(Also side note but after that the two don’t separate much/if at all, showing that the doc did genuinely listen to her)
I’ve heard people say that they didn’t enjoy Legend of the sea devils that much but personally I love it- both because holy shit they’re so gay, but also because it again demonstrates that yaz is genuinely so smart and capable and there’s really no wonder 13 fell for her so hard (because she did. 13 fell so hard) I also like that this episode shows that the two play off each other and trust each other a lot, even if they aren’t always in sync
And finally onto the power of the doctor! Yaz’s best episode by far and my favorite of the entire series!
Yaz. Is. So. Fucking. Amazing. In this episode. She really shines so much which is saying a lot because she usually shines anyway. She looks so ready to punch the master if only he’d give her a reason, ready to shoot him (maybe not fatally… maybe) if he threatens the doctors or her own safety
She openly defies him, she leaves him stranded on a planet and if not for the plan she might’ve never came back for him, she flies the tardis! All on her own! We can assume that the doctor helped teach her but how much of that knowledge is from those 10 months? (I like to think that the first time yaz helped fly it was completely by accident)
Do the doctor holograms share knowledge? Cuz if not, that implies that she figured out it can change interface on her own and used it in their/her plan.
She saves the doctor! Multiple times! Runs out towards a fucking laser to make sure she’s safe (another favorite scene), she flies everyone home while the doc rests and recovers, she is just so cool in this episode!!
And honestly, I hate her ending. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fantastic that she survived, really truly fantastic, if they had killed yaz I’d have balled my eyes out and sworn doctor who off for a second time, but her ending? No.
I do not think she should’ve stayed with the doc, I believe she loved (romantically, she’d love every doctor platonically but) 13 only, she’d be traveling the stars with 14 or 15 but I think over time she would’ve slid into that grief, that the doctor is still there but hers isn’t. But just having to go back to normal life? Go back to her family and job and life? That’s bullshit
Graham and Ryan got the psychic papers, yaz could’ve too (which btw that’d make a fun spin off I think), or she could’ve gotten the doctors coat (which would’ve been the cutest thing ever), or even her sonic! (Least likely) but- nothing? Nothing? No!!
She and 13 should be allowed to be immortal space wives together (with river, maybe) and nothing bad should ever happen to them

They couldn't have Martha because she'd have immediately told Yaz how much of a prick the doctor is and Yaz would have been like 'no she's not even close to that bad wtf???' and it would have reminded everybody that ten was awful at an inconvenient time for that.

How Yasmin Khan would deal with every Doctor incarnation:
(Full disclosure: this was inspired by @doccywhomst’s amazing posts about different companions with different Doctors, so go read their stuff)
One: He'd put a step too far and she'd call him out on it. After that, they’d probably definitely a cordial friendship, even if they weren’t close.
Two: Same kinda deal, but I think she'd get along well with Jamie, which would speed up things.
Three: She’d spend half her time yelling at him to stop calling her “my dear”. That is, when she isn't blushing because Liz Shaw smiled at her.
Four: Kinda similar vibe to how Four interacted with Sarah-Jane at first, except Yaz has a far smaller limit for “dealing with this idiots BS”.
Five: Ooh now we're taking! Yaz is perfect for Five's posse of queer youth, although she would probably have to get her own room (Tegan and Nyssa like their privacy, if you know what I mean👩‍❤️‍👩 )
Six: This would be either amazing or they'd end up slap-fighting in a field somewhere. There is no inbetween.
Seven: No. Absolutely not. Seven is too much of a Machiavellian schemer for Yaz, and vice versa. Although Ace would have a massive crush on Yaz, let's be real.
Eight: He's too much of an eldritch figure even for Yaz. This would end badly.
War: Too sad to think about.
Nine: These two would get along so well, it's unreal. They also both love leather jackets and helping people, not to mention delivering a killer one-liner filled with sass (which makes up for the fact he has a Mancunian accent, in Yaz’s eyes).
Ten: No. For the love of goodness, no. This man could drive Yaz up the wall. I love him, but even Yaz has a limit to her patience. Having said that, having Yaz interact with any of Ten’s companions would be awesome.
Eleven: Same as Ten, but worse. This little guy would give Yaz an aneurism. She’d get along with Rory, though.
Twelfth: Like with Nine, Twelfth has a well-developed sense of sass, meaning Yaz would feel right at home. Especially if Bill was involved (she’d be like an older sister to Yaz).
Fugitive Doctor: Colleagues. That’s the best way I can sum these two up. They’d get along fine but... they wouldn’t really be friends.
Thirteen: Ask me again when I'm not crying over "The Power Of The Doctor"-

for the choose violence ask game, 6, 13, 23?
6. which ship fans are the most annoying? I try not to get too far outside of thoschei and some timepetals shipping, so it's hard for me to answer… but there's definitely that tautological conspiracy theory-like attitude in tha/smin of "we saw that amazing chemistry while everyone else was blinded by heteronormativity"… I guess the straw that broke the camel's back was the insistence it's as epic as ninerose, which. Wow, the heteroglasses on my ace ass must be really strong if I missed the part where Yaz shielded some villain with her body and called Thirteen out on her bs or Thirteen absorbed all of time to burn her body to rescue Yaz!
13. worst blorboficiation As Verayne pointed out, this question is ambiguous! If we talk my own blorboification and "worst" as in "cringe police should absolutely put me in cringe jail", it's of course Simm!Master, who's my precious baby that's never done anything wrong in his life and if, instead of going "Let me help!", Ten brought some catnip to the Valiant and proceeded to rub the Master's tummy and scratch his ears, everything would have worked out just perfect! If we're talking fandom in general and "worst" as in "I think it's actually detrimental to interpretation", then, and it actually doesn't make me happy to bitch about Chibnall Who three times in a row, I'd say Dhawan!Master. It's mostly about his motivation to destroy Gallifrey, where it seems like everyone's so focused on making him so very in love with the Doctor to the point of being written by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch that I get really frustrated. And I agree, the canon motivation of "can't stand having the Doctor's DNA" is absolutely bs, that character parasited himself on one Trakkenite, one human, absorbed the life force of four more humans, tried to suck out Eight's remaining regenerations, and was apparently ok existing thanks to Rassilon's experiments, but the Doctor's DNA? Dealbreaker! But I also think the latching onto the concept he destroyed the planet for the Doctor makes even less sense. It's like the fandom is trying suck whatever last bits of charisma this era had...
23. ship you've unwillingly come around to I already answered this one here, with Martha and Mickey. I think one of the charms of sailing the thoschei unsinkable wreck is that there's hardly a ship that would either threaten yours (can you even imagine if those two disasters kept to monogamy????? the universe would fall apart) or really shock you into any pearl clutching, so there's hardly anything to come around to? Like yes, the Doctor definitely dated some of their companions, and is absolutely married to River Song, and probably had sex with a Dalek (outside of its casing), and yes, this interhuman relationship isn't tumblr definition of "healthy", but at least they don't trap each other in indefinite timeloops, so…

Hello! I love reading your posts, it makes me so happy to see that there are people that still love these two❤️ I appreciate all that you have done to keep the fandom alive!
That being said, because I wasn't involved with the fandom when I first watched the show, about 13 lol, I am pretty out of depth with how popular certain aspects of the show are to the general audience of Doctor Who.
Me being in my little bubble, I always assumed that all the RTD companions were really beloved, especially Rose Tyler. However after going out of my way to now seek out fan content, as an adult, it seems that there's way more dislike for her than I thought. Is she genuinely well liked amongst the majority? I thought that most fans really connected with the tragic love plotline they had?
The reason I ask is because I am fairly certain (a crack theory I've been making up in head) that more than ever there's a chance that we'll get some insight on how Tentoo and Rose are doing in the alt world but I'm afraid I might be getting my hopes up for nothing if they're not as popular as I thought they were. Thank you and I would love to hear if you have any insight!❤️❤️
hi! aw thank 🙈💗 honestly i just made this sideblog to ramble so i wouldn't annoy my followers on main (even though i was originally a dw blog there) and had been out of the fandom for about seven years before october; so i'm rediscovering it too!
i have noticed a lot of differences in the fandom from when i originally watched dw when i was in high school to now. when i watched it was 2012, so ten's era was still really recent and tumblr was much more active, especially in terms of doctor who.
back then, tenrose was everywhere because that part of the fandom was still the majority, but there was a lot of tension because of the direc moffat was taking the show. i remember there was sooo much excitement about even the possibility of david and billie being in the 50th, then it was announced and we all thought we would see tentoorose or at least s2 tenrose; then it ended up not being that at all. this resulted in the fandom feeling disappointed and used for views on top of the fact that a lot of people did not like moffat's characterization of ten and his decision to bring gallifrey back. it was a lot of things, but i think the 50th really created a split in the fandom that we have never fully recovered from. from then on, a lot of rtd era people de-activated tumblr and moved on to other things, including me for a while, because the fandom was so so so tense on both sides.
tenrose is absolutely still a very popular ship, rose is still a beloved companion by many, but it's not 2012 anymore. there are people who ship the doctor and river, the doctor and clara, the doctor and yaz, etc. so there is less unification i guess? and sometimes this leads to people hating on rose because some think they can elevate their ship by minimizing what rose meant to the doctor, which is bs because the doctor is allowed to love multiple people over the course of their insanely long life!
it's not that people don't like tenrose, it's just that there are people who prefer other eras and relationships now and the people who love tenrose aren't active much. but man, the SECOND thirteen regenerated into david ALLLL the tenrose girlies came out lol and i fully expect that to happen again in november. i mean, a lot of people hate ten as well, but that's because he is so popular and i think that applies to rose too. it's a sort of resentment sometimes imo. not always, but a lot of the time. dw is just a massive fandom and with things this long running there is never gonna be one specific consensus to cater to, and rtd always firsty caters to the story.
that all said, rtd is absolutely gonna bring them back even if it's not in the 60th. he always planned to, and planned to make the tardis coral scene canon somehow, so when i saw he was showrunner i was like "it's time!" lol and he has liked a TON of instagram comments about them and rose and bringing them back, including mine 😇🥰

my adhd can't chill tf down enough to sleep so may i present this (uhhh spoilers for new-who):
Everything in Doctor Who that ought to be fixed and why:
Any time the doctor shows racism, queerphobia, sexism, ableism, classism, etc. Unless a specific prejudice of Gallifreyan society exists, it would never make sense for the Doctor to be bigoted, even the one from the '60s
Related: when Thirteen breaks the Master's perception filter so the nazis would see he's a man of color and thus endanger him—the Doctor would never.
Completely abandon former companions. Maybe some, maybe originally, but even 2000 years of lessons learned later? The Doctor is a good man, abandonment is too inconsistent with his characterization to be a reoccurring, unchallenged trait.
Wiping Donna's memory. Cruel, erased her character arc and was not a fulfilling or meaningful end. Either kill her or have her decide to retire.
The convoluted reason the Ponds were stuck in 1939 New York. C'mon, if I tried for five seconds I could come up with a sensical reason why the Doctor never saw them and they were stuck. Or just don't make them stuck 🤷🏼‍♀️ maybe they decide to adopt and retire to avoid danger to the kid but the Doctor and River still regularly visit.
The "War Doctor". Showrunners confirmed this only existed because Christopher Eccleston refused to come back for the 50th Special (no shade to his choice). It might've backfired or seemed disrespectful of Chris's performance, but they should've simply recast Nine for it.
Just throw out Kill the Moon, it was bad writing, the heavy-handed abortion allegory was exhausting and weird (regardless of intentionality) and I don't usually cry "but the science!" but...the moon being gone, even if soon after it replaced itself, would cause apocalyptic destruction on Earth and possibly wipe out humanity. The primary salvageable bit that I think is integral is the Twelve/Clara fight at the end.
Danny Pink either doesn't die or doesn't stay dead. The paradox it would cause for him to die before him and Clara have kids when her and Twelve have MET those descendants and been on two separate adventures down that family line is irreconcilable. Full stop.
Bill doesn't die. The end. (Do NOT bury your fucking gays)
Don't have Graham be the last white seat on the Rosa episode, for fucking christ's sake. Plus where the fuck is at least the mention of Claudette Colvin?
Fourteen regenerates into Thirteen's clothes, following well-established rules of regeneration (BBC were cowards for breaking that just to sidestep having David Tennant "crossdress")
Headcanon bits that aren't necessarily tied to quality/consistent writing but I think would've been great:
The Doctor does find Melody. Maybe only by age six or so, if wanting to keep the Silence story intact, but rework Let's Kill Hitler to avoid the Mel situation. It makes me sad that they never got their baby back. She can still turn out to be River, maybe the regen into River only happened post season-six, keeping the reveal. Maybe Melody was eventually re-kidnapped by the Silence and then turned into River Song, or maybe Melody was always a kind of troubled trouble-maker and took on the River Song alias on her own.
Thirteen and Yaz absolutely get together.
keep in mind I haven't finished Thirteen's run (the stink of neolib BS from the Rosa Parks episode tanked my interest in keeping up until Chibnall fucked off), haven't seen the 60th Special yet, still have 20-something seasons of Classic Who to go, and don't remember everything I have seen, nor am I always right. I think on re-watch I'd find more issues but for now it's the list I've got that exactly zero (0) people asked for.

the power of the doctor
  c+p my livetweets
first note: no one but maybe Kit Pedler and Gerry Davis has gotten the cybermen quite right... sure it's fun to have villains boasting, but cybermen (or ~cybermasters) are scary bc they're not supposed to do That (that being any emotion at all)
do appreciate the continuity of bringing back the ~hybrids~ (tm)... .
still holding out hope that there will be fallout/consequences to the last universe reset / Armageddon and the doctor's "solution" there (1% of hope)

we started the era with a funeral, and ended with support group for grief. bookend storytelling!
Tumblr media
(though lol not to brag mates but the 10-era crew has probably have cycled thru a dozen whatsapp - facebook - zoom calls and discord groups by the time this is happening)
CHIBNALL IM GOING TO LET YOU FINISH BUT-
Tumblr media
OK overall takes...
im gonna need time to digest lol yes, lots of very clever things, cool lore, and thematic bookends (esp, re: the fam, unit, cycles, optimism, and the master), some Right choices for classic characters BUT a lot of wasted potential for the current ones (thasmin, 13, yaz, honestly even dan! what a flimsy goodbye...).
i also think this finale fits well  the rest of the era, a lot of excellent set ups for fic writers + fandom to elevate, esp in regards to character stuff and new interpretations of old themes (regeneration as identity, emigration metaphors, companion grief, etc). im always gonna be thankful for this lesson in the 13th era: art is what the interpreter of the art brings to it. a lot of people didn’t bring a lot to this era (for valid reasons, sometimes just for misogyny/racist ones)  so they didn’t get a lot, but those who worked their way thru the subtle stuff and even “added-in” stuff, got a great, if imperfect work w/ a lot of nuances, and def things never before done in dw (one of the major wins: making the doctor mysterious again, and making them a refugee / vulnerable rather than “president of the universe” he’d come to be in 10 season of new who). stray points (things i wasnt as satisfied with) 1- im not sure thirteen learned a lot? i think the reason the master's final point in his arc hit and landed so well, while thirteen's didn't as much (for me) is that it all kind of circled around with not really a "lesson" being learned.  we really pulled back the layers of the master's narcissism and obsession with the doctor, and followed it all the way through its origins in jealousy and self-hatred. meanwhile the doctor's optimist, happy-go-lucky facade-that-falls that the fandom did such excellent meta about... never quite hit it in the end with the show. EVEN when the setup was so clearly there SO MANY TIMES: giving yaz a gun, comitting triple genocide on the daleks/cybermen/sontarans, the tim shaw of it all... etc. 2- related to the point of 13 not growing: in the end she and yaz didn't commit to anything (quite the opposite, they stuck to the denial from the warriors ep, which i thought would be Turned Around here...), the special instead of calling out the older doctors, validated them for abandoning the companions (when tbh i think the True Thing, even if it hurt, would be for 13 to have outright said to ace and tegan [and yaz, even!] "im sorry, i wish i could have given you what you needed, but i couldnt. and probably never will") Let me stress it tho: i did really like the yaz/13, 5/tegan, ace/7 resolutions in isolation, they got those dynamics Right in a lot of ways (the 7/ace thing about the Cost you pay for “doing the right thing” , the doctor/tegan being like That but rlly only bc they care sm about each other (aaa) thing, and even with the yaz/doctor thing i can see the logic of them always being so positive + supportive, of doing all they can to “stay together”) but looking at it as a whole, in the context of "doctor who as one long running story", this felt a bit like a regression for the doctor, and by extension for ace, tegan and yaz. 3- i think there was also just not enough time to let the story breath. or rather, there WAS time but also a lot of nonsense taking that time (like the dalek trairo or the whole train thing i was SO EXCITED thinking it would be a kid from the doctor’s mysterious origins but nope, it was just a diversion to get to Squiggles.... even vinder whom i rlly enjoyed ... idk i have to question how Necessary it was to have a whole thing about him breaking his ship then repairing his ship... etc. ) . the scene at  the veeery end where 13 and yaz eat ice cream was like the first time chibnall slowed the peace *enough* to let the emotions land (and also the only moment i actually started crying asdfg).there were so many more companion / doctor companion interactions to be had, but bc of all the Stuff (tm) there wasn't time to rlly exploit (not having the companions in Somber Silence around the doctor, waiting for her to wake up for days, was almost a writting crime of negligence). but then again, that's been chibnall the whole way through lol he ain't no Aguinaldo Silva and that's fine. "understated emotions" is just not my thing.

Hi I am another Elriel shipper that genuinely loves reading you thoughts. While I don’t agree with everything you say I think they are very insightful and thought provoking and I enjoy them . Before I get to my point I just want to say that I am truly sorry on behalf of the Elriel fandom for all the negative that has been going down as of late. As someone who yearns for peace in the fandom and cannot tolerate seeing honest people being torn because of a ship.. seeing this shipwar pains me . I am fairly new to this fandom and I follow many Elriel blogs and pro Elaine and pro Lucien blogs. Some happen to be Elucien shippers too and I find myself gravitating towards them more as people rather than of my fellow Elriel shippers. Don’t get me wrong I still adore Elriel . But I just don’t want to surround myself with certain type of people no longer . My question is , Do you know of any blogs that lean more towards neutral shipping or don’t care about shipping at all?
Hello lovely person!
I'm glad you don't agree with everything I say - I'd assume you weren't really paying attention if you just nodded along like you had a blank smile on your face. I'm sorry the fandom isn't a great experience for you right now. I hope that it changes soon 🤞 In the meantime, ship whatever your heart desires!
These blogs do share similar ships with me, but I know that they either don't participate in the ship war and/or they just vibe. If anyone else wants to recommend their blog as well, feel free! I am not good at going through my dash and I talk so much with people in comments or on discord that I can't remember who is actually active on tumblr.
@cassianandfenrysaremyboyos Lisa and I have been mutuals forever and while we share ships, she's good at just ignoring the BS and doing her own thing
@aelin-godkiller Lou is also a long-time mutual and while she doesn't post quite as much anymore, when she does it's 🔥 she's so smart
@eyllweambassador Ezra is more into ToG, but is a devoted multi/rarepair shipper
@feysandfeels the Lady Lulu to my Lady Lele. She doesn't put up with any anti sjm BS and is a positive space.
@moononastring Yes Gigi is very much an elucien, but she tends to stay away from the drama
@writtenonreceipts lots of fanfic, no drama
@separatist-apologist MB just vibes with whatever she likes in the moment and I appreciate that about her
@gimme-mor is a multishipper - despite being critical of certain portions of the fandom in the past. Can you ask for more?
@ruhncervos Tati just vibes with what she likes
@elains makes lots of lovely aesthetic things
@sjmkinkmeme yes this is my side project with a couple other people, but we only post creative works - no ship war stuff allowed
@tangledraysofsunshine idek if Alex posts that much lol but she is probably the sweetest person you will ever meet in this fandom, and I've known her for a few years. I know. Trust me. The sweetest.
@rayonfrozenwings Renée is the original theory queen
@feyre-cursebreaker Carley always has interesting thoughts
@yazthebookish obviously Yaz has Gwynriel feelings but she has been doing a lot of great theory lately and making posts sorting out all the lore. And if y'all had any idea how much restraint she has shown with this ship war...
and some others for funsies: @darling-archeron @shyvioletcat @starseternalnighttriumphant
I know there are other people who are amazing humans and funny and smart and don't have time for this nonsense, but they may not post much so I might have forgotten to include them.

"It wasn't necessary for Yaz and the Doctor to kiss-"
STOP. JUST STOP.
People the Doctor has kissed in Modern Who, as a man:
Grace (yes I'm counting Eight as modern)
Rose
Martha
Donna
Madame De Pompadour
Elizabeth I
Amy
Clara
Missy
River Song
I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.
Please, please tell me how many of those were NECESSARY kisses?! Lets take out the ones that were just for plot contrivances like Donna etc. Wasn't there enough between the Doctor x Rose and the Doctor x River to make it BLINDINGLY obvious they had a romantic relationship without them needing to kiss? Or to say I Love You (obviously what Ten said on BWB)?
People ONLY ever pull this whole "we don't need to shove it in peoples faces by showing them kiss to prove they were in love" when it comes to same sex couples! And it's that kinda bs which keeps letting writers get away with doing to the bare minimum and patting themselves on the back for their "groundbreaking lgbt rep".
It's never necessary for ANY couple to kiss in a story to show their love, and Yaz and Thirteen had more than enough moments that showed how much they cared for each other this episode...But what would have been so bad with a kiss? Or a HUG?! Or an explicit admission of romantic feelings even if they couldn't be acted on? If the Doctor has been shown to do that countless times, in various incarnations, then why not here? Why not Yaz?
Do you know what other Doctor/Companion kiss was unnecessary? Jack Harkness. But RTD gave us the first same sex kiss between a male Doctor and male companion- back in 2005! Back when it was still being debated whether gay people could get married in the UK! No one asked for that kiss, there was no heavily built up relationship between Nine and Jack beyond flirty friendship - but we got it! And the world didn't explode. We appreciated it, that RTD had the guts to not give a shit what any homophobes thought in that moment. And now we probably won't get the chance to see the sapphic equivalent for the Doctor and companion for MANY years, because I'm hoping Ncuti's run is long, but also if who knows if the BBC will try for another female Doctor that soon given Jodie wasn't well received, as what usually happens.
So can we just let people be pissed. We know it wasn't "necessary", we don't care, that's not why we're mad. We're mad because, just like everything Chibnall wrote, we were built up for something that didn't have a satisfying end. And maybe that end could have been a kiss, maybe something else, but just something that felt like we weren't being baited for nothing. The ice cream scene was pretty...but still so distant. This is not just a problem isolated to Doctor Who, there are so many other fandoms I'm seeing go through the same thing with wlw ships in particular (Pattison fans, I feel you), whether it's being queerbaited or our sapphic shows being cancelled. We just want better. Stop getting our hopes up that we're gonna get it if you don't plan to deliver.

So fun fact
I didn’t originally like Dan. He was annoying and incompetent and got in the way (I still believe this, I just also see his good traits now)
I do now, mostly, but I will forever hate the fact that he A) outs yaz to 13, B) lies about it and C) that it’s just never addressed
Mother fucker really sees yaz tearfully admitting that she loves the doctor and hasn’t even admitted it to herself, and saying that it’s complicated (because it is), and then just immediately is like “she likes you, you know”
Like, DAN! Buddy, that isn’t ally behavior

Hi, would you be able to rate all the dizis you’ve watched in order of favourite to least favourite?
Excellent question anon! I decided to answer this in reverse order because it's honestly easier to go from the worst and then work our way up.
The Bottoms--don't bother watching tbh
Winning the worst of the lot is...Sen Cal Kapimi. Technically it would be a three way tie with the other romcoms on the list, except that at least no one hid a whole child for 5 years in EK and KA so, SCK wins for having the single worst love story ever.
Erkenci Kus is next, mostly bc Can Yanem has a very annoying face and also bc the relationship between Can and Sanem was borderline uncomfortable to me (she seemed like a child in so many ways) plus they were both annoying as fuck tbh.
Kiralik Ask actually wasn’t bad, and I did like both Defne and Omer, but I hated the drawn out secret plot and it was just very blah in general. Turns out I think I just don’t love romcoms.
Bu Sehir Arkandan Gelecek actually had a good central story and I quite enjoyed the lead and his whole family plot. But this show featured two of the single most annoying female characters to ever exist, so in the end, this has to go far down on the list. I literally got to the point where I fast forwarded all of their scenes, they were that insufferable.
Kurt Seyit ve Sura is one I technically didn’t finish, but it was my first so I feel like I need to mention it. It was good but overly dramatic and also the ending was bs, and yes I know it was a true story.
The Middles--these are all kind of interchangeable depending on my mood
Yeni Hayat was a very boring show but the little girl was adorable and I love Serkan and Melisa is very pretty so idk. Take that as you will.
Icerde was actually really good, and the performances were excellent. It dragged on for about 10-15 episodes too long and I didn’t love the fridging but it was quite good overall.
Carpisma was the dumbest show with the dumbest characters I have ever watched in my whole life and it was supposed to be dramatic and sad but honestly I laughed the whole time and it was the funniest show ever. I loved all the stupid foursome and also the main bad guy who ended up being the best. I mean, you might not find it funny, but the whole thing was a riot tbh. It’s all about perspective.
Muhtesem İkili was excellent for the family storyline but honestly I either didn’t watch or fast forwarded through literally every single police plot. It was exceedingly dull. But the main family was excellent, I loved the actors together, and the chemistry was good. I just didn't watch 70% of the show.
Zemheri was excellent. Excellent acting, excellent drama, excellent plot, and also--excellently short. There was one very small storyline that pissed me off that could easily be handwaved, but otherwise, it really was very well done and short enough not to get exhausting. Melodramatic, perhaps, but in all the best ways. The two leads are just phenomenal.
Her Yerde Sen was also very good, and I loved it while I was watching it, and it’s probably the only romcom I’ll ever like. That being said, I literally forgot it existed the moment it ended so…
The Tops--these 4 are my favorite.
Seref Meselesi is a beautiful show. It has this sort of timeless, dreamlike quality to it, and there is a feeling almost of a stage play. From the sets to the lighting to the drama and characters, SM tells exactly the story it means to tell. It is heartbreaking, but beautiful for it. It ranks as 4th only because it’s not the type of show you’d watch over and over, but it is excellent.
Son Yaz, Halka, and Meryem are tied for tops. They combine the best of all possible categories--excellent central cast of characters, phenomenal chemistry, excellent ships (romantic and otherwise), beautiful core friendships, excellent pacing, minimal to no skippable side plots, tons of rewatchability (both as a whole and individual scenes), fantastic acting, and characters that won’t leave you alone. These were shows I couldn’t put down, ones I wanted to watch and watch and watch until they were over, and then turn around and watch all over again.

7 & 18 for the choose violence ask meme? :D
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them? Hate is a big word and it really doesn't make me happy to complain about Chibnall Who three times a day, but unfortunately the answer is Thirteen. Of course, it all kicked off with people being extermely fragile and pearl clutchy about how the Doctor being a woman will somehow change the very core of the character, but those takes were simply a block and filter flag for me, so it is easy to ignore them. But then the canon turned out to be what it was and, extremely controversial opinion, "just poorly written" isn't an excuse for a character only best possible reason to criticise them. Still, if we are just in the canon my attitude towards Thirteen is warm rather than cold! I'm absolutely not in any "not mah doctor" club, she's likeable and has some amazing moments (much as I hate TTC, her confrontation with Tecteun is genuinely good). But making her out to be the bestest regeneration evah, and her relationship with Yaz the hottest romance in the show's history, and you just have to abandon all of the (insert long adjective from critical theory of the day) ways of assessing fiction to appreciate how subtly ingenious the writing is, and her bs moral compass is actually heading somewhere (argument persisting even after she regenerated), and she's clearly thought from the beginning to be the Doctor that abandoned all hope (fun fact: her theme is based on Luke Skywalker's, as in having A New Hope written all over it), and if I, a cis woman, can't see how brilliant a character she is, then clearly I'm a class gender traitor - yeah, fandom really wants me to dislike her. And then one day I saw a set juxtaposing Ten sweettalking the Master in Eot with Thirteen's I aM sO MuCh mORe THan yOU that had a comment about how it's good we have a representation of "softer" male characters and "tougher" female ones and I just thought Huh. So you're telling me the core of the chacter did change along with gender?...
I should add, though: in the one piece of media that has Whittaker as Thirteen but no Chibnall that got released til now, the game Edge of Reality, she's really, really good! Just to be clear, the game itself is an absolute disaster gaming-wise, but the story is really something I want to consider a valid part of EU. It just... feels like the writers wrote it for any Doctor and tweaked it to fit in Thirteen's individual quirks, rather than starting from the quirks and then making a DW story out of them. And, since it also features Ten (whose ass you chase with the sonic. yes, I believe the Master was involved in the development), it answers the biggest question of all: yes, River would be very excited about her spouse being a woman now :3
18. it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on... CATMASTER!!! This isn't completely slept on, but there can never be enough Catmaster! Specifically the machnics of how the cheetah virus somehow stayed in their biodata and every Master after Ainley is literally a biological cat to some extent! And I guess I should finish the Chibnall negativity by praising bringing this up in canon again! The day the Doctor figures out they just need a laser pointer in the sonic can never come soon enough

panel wants and predictions so i can look back at this afterwards to see how wrong i am:
- i feel like the base level of what we should get during this panel is some official promo pics of the gang and a proper series 13 trailer. it would be genuinely weird for us to not get at least that i think.
- i’m also hoping that trailer will give us an official date for when series 13 is going to be coming out. i don’t want any ‘coming this autumn’ bs. i want an actual date, or at the very least the month it’s gonna start.
- i feel like people lean towards the guest being sacha dhawan or jo martin but to me they’re not really special guests??? like they’re kinda obvious choices since they are already part of this era. i feel like the guest is gonna be someone either completely new that hasn’t been in the show before or a person that’s returning? but not a returning person who is too huge like david tennant or a previous companion. idk, i’m kinda lost on who it could actually be but that’s the vibe i get. someone we will think is cool but not someone who is gonna make us lose our shit. or maybe it will literally just be like maxine alderton or something lmao. i love her but that would be so underwhelming lol
- i seriously need more information about dan. literally all we really know is that his name is dan and he is from liverpool. like.. please dw gods, i need more than that. i want at least a surname, job and info on his living situation/where he is at in his life right now
- i’m assuming we’ll also get official confirmation on returning aliens like the weeping angels and sontarans. everyone knows they’re coming back so they might as well mention/talk about it
- i’d also kinda like some confirmation on jodie’s future in the show, like if this is her last full series, if she’s gonna get some specials to make up for series 13 being shorter but tbh i’m kinda just expecting them to keep dodging that and not give us a straight answer
- and then i want general chat about where the doctor and yaz are in their timeline right now and how they’re feeling. how long has it been since ryan and graham left, stuff like that. but not too much detail (although they love keeping things so secret i’m not worried about them giving us too much detail lmao), i just want some basic info.
- maybe talk of what the arc for this series is about??? like how jodie said series 12 was about self discovery or whatever it was she said. something vague like that would be cool i think, get us thinking about what’s gonna happen
