"We were like, even more kind of artsy than we are now like, when we were like sixteen, seventeen there were no pictures of our faces, there was no… this and that and that, it was just a Myspace page with music on it. And, for some reason or another, some girl who followed another band or something had met our manager and told him about our Myspace page and he checked it out. And it was rubbish, so he thought, well that's rubbish. He then sent us an email asking us if we had any new material and we'd actually just come out of the studio and we'd recorded Robbers. We sent it to him. I'm what, eighteen? And then this guy, this grown-up, started ringing me all the time saying 'Can I come and meet you? Can I come and meet you?' and I was thinking, like, yeah if you want… but I've got, I don't know, I've got like, school and… you know? It was all… it didn't seem very realistic. And then Jamie turned up in his BMW and his barber jacket and he was like, 'I want to manage you' and we didn't know what that meant. We were like, what do you mean? And then I think the first… he said 'I want to be your manager' and my first question, I thought I was being savvy, I said, 'How much does it cost?' He said, 'It doesn't quite work like that, mate, but I think you guys could be one of the biggest bands in the world'. And I mean, he said that to us. And this… remember, this was a grown-up, we'd been through no processes of qualification. We'd been validated by no one apart from my dad. So, to have somebody who obviously had more than thirty quid telling us that we were going to be a massive band… We believed him."

this is dumb but do you also sometimes feel like Yves is trying to (maybe subconsciously?) visually emulate Sulli? like some of the pictures she posts are way too sulli-esque lol
I think that's definitely possible. Sulli was a trendsetter, and her impact is long lasting - at the same time, Sulli is also not the only one who does these 'Sulli-esque' photos; many of both Yves' and Sulli's photos hark back to the Cyworld style of selfies and aesthetic, which I suppose could be analagous to the early days tumblr aesthetic of pre 2013, or even myspace (notably, Cyworld predates myspace).
Alongside Yves and Sulli, you might notice that Hyuna also, from time to time, posts photos in a similar vein to this aesthetic (though also has her unique style) - and a lot of older generation idols will often have predebut or simply older pictures in this style too. But I think there's something that is common between them, whether intentional by Yves or not.
#cyworld is also a microblogging platform like tumblr#so i think its interesting that it had an equivalent impact on korean gen mz culture#other artists ive seen do this style their names escape me sowwy#while yves' fav group was the wonder girls she was an fx stan!#ditto by nw jns also has the cyworld vibe in its mv in my humble opinion - on purpose#gowon also posts a lot of cyworld aes stuff too. but obviously she doesnt look like sulli so#mm... i think the view on cyworld nowadays is probably some kind of mix between the western appreciation of y2k/myspace aes#but while i think theres something uniquely sulliesque about sullis image since yves and sulli both borrow from the same place aestheticall#theres naturally overlap

📣🏆🏒🏅 SPORTS!: Blair as co-captain of the cheerleading team, and as the center in Berry High's ice hockey team!
Blair plays many sports throughout High School Story Prime (for plot reasons), but two of them have their heart: cheerleading and ice hockey. Here's some social media posts made by Blair's friends in 2013 and 2014, respectively!
Before anything: I'm excited to share my My School Story design... I've been meaning to create something for MSS for ages now and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. Since it was 2013/2014, I wanted to make a hybrid between a blog, a forum, and a Facebook-esque timeline. I also wanted it to look like early Facebook/MySpace meets 2010s gradient buttons. I hope to use this design for other posts soon (foreshadowing). More about Blair and sports under the cut.
Blair was not a very athletic person before moving to the United States, but Berry High needed a cheerleading team and they took on the responsibility of starting one. They struggled a bit performance-wise in the beginning, but their leadership was strong enough to keep the team alive until Mia joined the school and became cheer captain. Blair then took on the role of co-captain and slowly became better.
Blair enjoyed cheer a lot, but I do think the hyper femininity they performed contributed to their struggles with gender/self-image. These first few months in the United States were very confusing to Blair, since they were trying to... figure things out. Moving to a new place where no one knows them meant they could be someone new entirely; performing this Ideal Blair was their way of "starting over", and it has mixed results. For a while, it's fine. Something it's still wrong, though, and Blair doesn't know what is.
As for cheer: they would have stayed in the team for longer if they had not suffered an injury during a game. Blair has myopia but absolutely refuses to wear their glasses (and contact lenses are expensive). As soon as they stepped foot in the U.S. they decided to not wear them anymore because glasses made them "look weird". So, during a game, they can't see where they're supposed to land and end up missing a hand and falling on the ground. It's really bad. In retrospect, Blair probably thinks it was a good thing.
After recovering (and going through stuff), Blair decides to try other sports. They play volleyball for a while, but it's not really fun to them. They try handball, but Blair thought the rules were stupid and ended up fighting more than playing (they actually did not understand you cannot block a person with your full body). Swimming? Do not put Blair in a swimsuit. Soccer? Created by the English. Then they try ice hockey... and it's everything Blair ever wanted in a sport.
You can HIT PEOPLE. You can SKATE. You have a STICK. It's on ICE. FIGHTING IS EXPECTED. It's Blair heaven. I think ice hockey does wonders for Blair anger issues, and just... Blair in general. Like I said, Blair really enjoyed cheerleading, but I think they're much more comfortable playing hockey and being more like themself.
You may remember I originally had them playing lacrosse, and my plan was to have them in the lacrosse team + hockey team; but both sports seasons overlap and I felt it was too much for one person. I stuck with hockey once I found out about the sports' relation to Scotland (it's one of the most popular sports there), and I think that's something Blair would appreciate. I always like making them relate things back to home.
Here's both pictures (both taken by Autumn, as always). I love the second one... might be one of my favourite Blair drawings ever already. And here's Julian's profile pictures because I find them amusing:

A GUIDE TO FINDING YOUR OWN STYLE: PART. I Y2K ୨୧ ׅ ۫ 𖹭
The Y2K Era became well-defined by 1997, replacing the Core '90s Era which had been known for its grittier aesthetics such as Grunge. The Spice Girls' single "Wannabe" was released in the U.S. and gained international popularity, leading to a new era in teen pop. Y2K fashion calls back to the biggest trends of the late 90s and early 2000s. It blends the pop culture of the millennium with bright colors and kitschy aesthetics to create an unapologetically maximalist look. One of the key fashion points of the y2k wave are: low raised jeans, crop tops, small handbags and mini skirts. POC POPULARIZED THE STYLE. The fashion icons of the y2k era were Destiny's child, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Christina Aguillera.

I. TYPES OF THE Y2K STYLE ୨୧ ׅ ۫ 𖹭
1. CYBERCORE
Y2K (also known as Kaybug or Cybercore) is an aesthetic that was prevalent in popular culture from roughly 1997 to 2004, succeeding the Memphis Design and Grunge eras and overlapping with the McBling, UrBling, Surf Crush, and 2K1 aesthetics. Named after the Year 2000 problem, it is characterized by a distinct aesthetic period, encapsulating fashion, hardware design, music, and furnishings shining with tech optimism—sometimes literally. Some of its aspects include tight leather pants, shiny clothing, silver eye shadow, spiky up-dos, Oakleys, gradients, translucence, and Blobitecture. Most Y2K aesthetics rely on the use of technology and slick futuristic looks, signaling the optimism for the 3rd Millennium or 21st Century. The Y2K Era ended around 2004 and was succeeded by the Frutiger Aero era. This style is full of mostly gray, blue, green and black colors. One artist that i think perfectly describes the cybercore concept are XG in their newest concept photos alongside with AESPA that can sometime miss the concept they mainly do.

2. MCBLING
The McBling aesthetic went into full swing around late 2004 with the release of the movie Mean Girls, the popularization of Myspace, the popularization of emo via Green Day's American Idiot, the phasing-out of 2K1, the iPod becoming a huge status symbol via Apple's silhouette ad campaign, the premieres of Laguna Beach and Lost, and Gwen Stefani starting her solo career, further hastening the end of the Y2K era. McBling was concurrent or overlapped with a number of other 2000s aesthetics, such as UrBling, Surf Crush, 2K7, and Frutiger Aero. This led into the ElectroPop 08/Hipster/Jersey Shore Era, which lasted from about 2008 to 2013. On social media in recent years, the McBling aesthetic has grown in popularity, albeit it is often lumped with or mistaken for the Y2K aesthetic. The colors of this style are: pink, white, silver and gold.

3. DARK Y2K
Instead of lighter and brighter colors, like pinks and pastels, the Dark Y2K aesthetic heavily revolves around colors like black, grey, deep blue, dark purple, and dark green. However, hot pinks are also seen in Dark Y2K fashion. The Dark Y2K visual focuses on freedom and youth, and rebelling. Visuals that are typically seen in the aesthetic are low-rise jeans and belts, with lipgloss and sometimes even glitter eyeshadow. Some of the styles worn could even be viewed as provocative. The 2003 film Thirteen can be seen as an influence to Dark Y2K fashion and visuals, with its main characters wearing cropped tops, low-rise jeans with a noticeable thong, and studded belts. The main characters are also seen rebelling and sneaking out, and getting tongue and bellybutton piercings.

Even though our tastes usually overlap, I really hate "archive" pages. Usually, they aren't actually "archiving" anything, just scanning individual images and writing blurbs gleaned from Wikipedia. Like, the average "archivist" post is mostly the same unsourced, low-res Daido Moriyama images, credited to him, but without any publication info—which, for Moriyama, would be important, since the Kodansha reissues re-crop and alter certain images—maybe with a slightly inaccurate blurb about Moriyama and the Provoke "movement."
That page I reblogged would constantly call out reposters and "copycats," as if it were actually providing a valuable, vital service, when really it migrated Tumblr to Instagram (and back to Tumblr) and created a like-machine and follower-accumulator to aid its transition into bookseller. "Archiving" is just blogging hyped to 20-something noise fans as documentation (and thus preservation) of this allegedly ephemeral underground culture. These pages are frustrating because preservation goes far beyond even the ideal image of an "archive" that I imagine the admins of these pages hold; and because much of the seemingly ephemeral artists they're posting are actually quite well preserved, whether it be Yamantaka Eye driving a bulldozer into a venue or the Temple ov thee Psychick Youth.
The actual, "ephemeral" cultural phenomena—things worth archiving—is stuff that's happening around you. I often think about a band from the city in which I grew up (Rome, NY) called Atom Age. They were a powerviolence band formed out of the ashes of their highschool band King Dump (who broke up after their drummer, Bubba, OD'd), featuring former members of No Fucker, a somewhat legendary d-beat band from Utica (and Rome) NY. They did one East Coast tour, released 2 tapes, a CD, a 3" CD, and had a song on a compilation of 100 1-minute or less songs—virtually unknown outside their own area code and within a small section of Northern PA. I'm not sure any of the members even have proper masters of the music anymore. It's a shame because I think they were a unique band that deserved more insightful, intentional engagement, who now only exist on actually scarce physical media, a broken Myspace page, and in the memories of the few people who can remember seeing them play.

Throughout the day.
William reblogs art, a 1930s phonograph advertisement, and a link to the UCSB cylinder audio archive to @williamyew.
Night
Player m on the discord cracks the code to the en-abime.com/t-w-i-n-s page. This reveals an image of overlapping pages from the Henry and Mal's Guide to The Abime, including the previously missing Page 29. A player made transcript can be found here.
Summary:
Henry and Mal's overlapping conversations are about the two twins respectively, Zeke and Claire. Claire is mentioned to be a trivia queen interested in Wikipedia, True Crime, and podcasting, with Mal mentioning that she at one point had both a podcast and youtube videos. She is also said to have left her face on the "outside". Zeke, on the other hand, is a misogynist who "got around" in a "myspace relationship status kinda way". However, he talks often with Thomas. Henry and Mal take a bet that Tati and Zeke's relationship won't last long, for $20 bucks.

"Cooler in theory,
but not if you force it to be"

‘Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno’ is a phrase more commonly known as ‘all for one and one for all’. It has long been associated with the tale of the three musketeers and is the unofficial motto of Switzerland.
This concept epitomises the sense of solidarity that can be reached when the individual acts in favour of the group and the group acts in favour of the individuals.
While this sounds promising in theory for the majority, in reality it can create a trap of self enforced conformity for the minority.
Most of us in this minority inherently drift apart from the majority due to a deeply rooted feeling that we don’t belong in some way. Often times learning ways to hide the parts of ourselves that are frowned upon by the collective as we float around on the periphery.
And it can take years to discover the correct language to use that accurately describes our experiences. What comes next is often not within our control as we’re forced to coexist with those who disapprove of our truth and lack of conformity.

“Maybe I'm losing my mind, but it feels like the whole world revolves around me somehow.” -Truman
In the Truman show ‘unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno’ is proudly displayed as the motto for the town of Seahaven, but it’s really just an ever-present subliminal message to reinforce Truman’s contribution to benefit the collective.
The director of the show was clouded by his desire to create something good to share with the world. Yet this inspirational message was never supposed to be used as a threat or an excuse for one person to carry the weight of the collective all alone.
That turns into ‘one for all’. Full stop. It was the realisation that the pressure to conform by giving more and more of himself to entertain the masses was a never ending cycle that ultimately became Truman’s tipping point and what finally motivated him to leave.

“So tell me everything is not about me. Butwhat if it is?” -Taylor
This experience is not unique to Truman’s fictional character. It’s actually a fine line that many of us face in our own ways. And it’s this prior experience that allows so many of us to see the same type of pain in Taylor being reflected back at us.
The key to overcoming this imbalance between the ‘all for one and one for all’ is rediscovering community. We often begin with a jumble of stories collected along the way that morph into a label. And it’s this label that allows us to find our people, to find where we belong.
The evolution of the internet and social media created online spaces that allowed many of us to coexist in communities where the minority suddenly became the majority. MySpace in particular encouraged everyone to personalise their page to create a reflection of themselves.
With the rise of other platforms, conformity gradually took over and individuality was slowly left behind. Regardless of how big or small a group becomes, uniformity amongst the majority seems to be the goal.
The Taylor Swift fandom isn’t immune to this either. We’ve all centred Taylor in our own versions of ‘all for one and one for all’ but have branched out to create varying subsections that fall under the swiftie or gaylor umbrella.
When all of these variations overlap and mingle together it creates a never ending Venn diagram, and it’s that same overlap that feels both communal and isolating all at once. The sweet spot lies with finding a balance between valuing unity and individuality.
I myself fall into the gaylor, idgaflor, performanceartlor and thetrumanshowlor communities. I also view Taylor’s story through a female, queer, neurodivergent and chronic illness lens. The combination of these facets is what makes my interpretations unique.
I’d love to invite you to consider where you fit into the community. What makes your point of view unique? The more we can recognise and celebrate the diversity within the gaylor community, the more united we will all feel in preparation for the turbulent times ahead.
When Taylor invited us to go down the rabbit hole with her I never expected to discover, let alone join in with, this amazing community. I love each and every one of you for being here. Wether you’ve inspired thoughtful conversations, made me laugh or just liked my posts, thank you 🏼

‘Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno’
A tortured poet,

since there seems to be quite a bit of overlap between debut and fearless songs, where do you draw the line between the two? like do you consider don’t you -> you all over me to be part of debut? and also superstar? i’m just wondering because (based on your timeline, maybe it’s changed by now, but) tied together and mary’s song came after those four fearless vault songs and then should’ve said no came after superstar. like in your head i guess is there a point where you feel a clear shift? like okay we are in a new era now. this is fearless.
i dont really classify the writing of debut as an era of writing the way i do the other albums? like, she's writing with the hope of making an album, but she's not writing An Album, if that makes sense. she wrote over 120 completed songs during the debut sessions (and those are just the ones i have knowledge of), which is easily three times the amount of any other album.
i cut the debut sessions off on august 12 2006, because that's when taylor posted this on myspace:
SO for the past couple of days I’ve been in the studio FINISHING my album. Oh yeah, I said it.. finishing it. That’s means it.. is… DONE. At least my part is done, I’ve sung every vocal. They still need to mix and master it and do all that technical stuff that I will never understand. haha. So I’m particularly excited about a new song we recorded for the album, I’ve written every song on this album and this one is no exception.. But the funny thing is, I wrote it about twenty minutes before we recorded it. It just kind of fell out of my mouth and now it is in my cd player. haha. It’s called “You Should’ve Said No” and it’s about being cheated on.. dun dun dunnn… Yeah. I can’t wait for you to hear it. Another song we did vocals on is called “Oh My My My” and I’ve played that for a few acoustic on-air interviews and at shows, so some of you might be familiar with it.. But it’s about this couple that grows up together, and its the story of their adorable beautiful love. haha. Then I did vocals for a song called Cold As You. This song contains some of the best lyrics I’ve ever written in my life, and I just can’t wait for this ALBUM TO COME OUT. Here’s the hook: “And now that I’m sitting here thinking it through, I’ve never been anywhere cold as you”.
so, i align the vault songs written before august 2006 with debut more than fearless. it's less of a harsh line for me than mr perfectly fine being written in 2009 (mr perfectly fine is a speak now song i will face taylor swift and walk backwards into hell), because she probably was considering them for fearless at one point, but push comes to shove they weren't written for fearless, if that makes sense
#asks*#timeline*#i guess superstar and come in with the rain are somewhat in-between songs#but white horse is like Oh Yeah this is fearless#though i am obsessed with the run of like#ssn -> come in with the rain -> white horse -> the other side of the door -> bye bye baby -> you're not sorry#haylor could never

Haiiii! :3 I’m new to scene culture and I really like ur account! And I was wondering if u had any recommendations for any scene music?? ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ Or possibly where to get clothes at all? ~_~ possibly for cheap..? Any help is appreciated! (I’m asking a bunch of scene themed accounts)
hai there :DD i may be a bit of a newbie myself but i’m happy 2 help
scene heavily overlaps with emo and rave culture. so a lot of “scene” music is defined by emo bands (i’ll loosely use the term “emo” cus nobody seems 2 agree how 2 define that music genre) like mcr, paramore, panic! at the disco, secondhand serenade, asking alexandria, and black veil brides.
for the rave side of scene music, S3RL is my numba 1. hard bass music with a happy layer of cringe. discowarp is also an underrated one i will recommend, something about their style feels distinctly 2010s. both these artists are gaining traction on tiktok so u might’ve heard of them >:3
and then there’s the weird sub genre of scene music, where it’s simply music scene kids made/myspace users loved. artists like the millionaires, brokencyde, dot dot curve, and i set my friends on fire. those are all pretty important scene artists :D
ANYWAY after that long rant about music, clothes is the trickier part.
bc most of the clothes we wear are old now, the best places 2 get them are any second-hand stores or thrift shops. ebay and depop are my top places. 4 real stores u can go 2, hot topic, spencer’s, and claire’s (yes claire’s. proudly march into that kids store!!!) are basically the pillars. but other than that, u just need 2 have a good eye. black skinny jeans with rips, tank tops with chunky stripes, bows, anything with skulls, belts, converse— online u see people wearing soooo much shit (and they look kewl,) but u don’t always need all that, simple things you’ll find anywhere can still make u look scene :]
and buying scene stuff can get expensivveee real fast, so take it slow and build up ur wardrobe.
WOOO KAY SRY 4 THE LONG POST!! i hardly get 2 actually talk abt scene stuff on here lolz. good luck on ur journey scene baby u are always welcome here <33333!!!

Hi :-) I'm 18-- and a half. I'm the girl who is best friends with a guitar and writes songs about everything and everyone that happens to me. Names included. ;-) Class of 2008. In my spare time, I like to conduct random baking experiments in my kitchen and write letters to people. I really love people who like my music. They're number 1 on my favorite things list. I'm not a big deal. At all. I love people who are nice to me, I've never been one to say things like "All you people think you know me, well you don't". Because I'm not that complicated. My complications come out in my songs. All you need to do to be my friend is like me. My middle name is Alison. And I'm extremely tall. Like, I'm that really tall person that is blocking your view at a concert. On behalf of all of us, we're sorry. My ideal outfit is a sun dress and cowboy boots. I love surprises and hardwood floors. I like people who are excitable. I think it's endearing when people cry when they're happy. I'm pretty excitable too. I've never been the kind of girl who needs a boyfriend. Plus, guys don't ask me out because they know I'll write songs about them. But I'm also the girl who still believes prince charming exists somewhere out there-- fully equipped with great hair and an immature sense of humor. I wear too many bracelets and I can't concentrate on the conversation if the TV's on. I grew up on a Christmas tree farm. Seriously. I'm fascinated by black and white pictures, I have them hung up everywhere. I like people who can be sarcastic and laugh about tense situations. I never assume someone's not being honest with me. I like to read up on weird medical problems, so if one of my friends ever complains of a headache or stomach ache, I'm probably going to spout off 12 different things that could be wrong with them. Because I'm way paranoid. I think Keri Russell and Ellen DeGeneres are the coolest celebrities ever. I don't like making decisions when I don't have to. So right now my toenails are painted 5 different colors. I will never straighten my hair to impress a guy ever again. There's never going to be a time when I'm annoyed by compliments about my music. I need everything to be organized. All the time. I think little kids are awesome. I'm a thinker and an over-analyzer. I'm not jaded. I'm a fan of fans. You are absolutely wonderful to me. I've got your back, just like you've had mine. To anyone who has gone out and bought my CD, or come to a show, or even turned my song up when it came on the radio, all I can say is thank you. Oh yeah.. My name's Taylor.

The fact that so many people are still saying that the creator of Pokemon is confirmed autistic is wild. We have exactly one interview where this was brought up, and it is highly unlikely that it was actually him in that interview.
What makes it unlikely?
The interview was conducted on MySpace in the early '00s. Trolls impersonating famous people were running rampant on all available social media during that era, and there was no reasonable means of verification of identity.
MySpace wasn't exactly widespread in Japan at the time, if it ever was at all. The possibility of a particulary famous Japanese individual using a primarily English platform for any reason at that point is highly unlikely.
The author who wrote the UNAUTHORIZED biography never actually met him in person or even talked on the phone with him and never got or gave concrete confirmation that it was actually Satoshi Tajiri running the MySpace page. The book is also riddled with other inaccuracies, which is more reason to be suspicious of this claim.
Tajiri-san himself has never said anything about it in any interviews given before or since. Anyone claiming he is autistic that is not Tajiri-san or his medical provider(s) is not in a position to make such a definitive claim on the matter.
Make no mistake, it would be AWESOME if it did actually turn out he's autistic. We need as much positive representation for neurodivergent folks as we can get, and so much about Tajiri-san and his story is worth admiring.
But the thing is we don't have any concrete, credible sources for any claims of his being neurodivergent.
Bulbapedia has looked into this. They're pretty intense about making sure they have accurate sources for their info, and discuss why they don't include this on their article about him here: https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Talk:Satoshi_Tajiri
DidYouKnowGaming has looked into this. It's the first thing they talk about in this video:
youtube
Even the folks at Wikipedia acknowledge there's no credible source for this claim, and they have really tightened up their sources and fact-checking in the last few years before any article edits are allowed to go through. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Satoshi_Tajiri
Again, it would be awesome if he does turn out to be autistic, especially considering how much the Pokemon communities and the autism community overlap and interact.
But it is 2024. Let's not armchair-diagnose strangers. Let's please make sure we have actual sources for our statements and stop spreading misinformation.

Soooo I made a pinboard, It's kinda a mix of industrial/cyber goth/punk/techwear as they all kind of overlap especially if your just using it for simspo because of limited cc.
if there's duplicates I'm sorry.
I'm also kinda salty that most of it seems modern and myspace goth era shit is difficult to find.
Also please excuse the dreadfalls the POC community has spoken out many times about how their problematic....a lot of the models have them though due to the time period this fashion was at its peak
please do not put loc's on your white sims (if you try to fight me on this I will block)
I really wish I could of found the more slutty stuff but I guess it leans too far into fetish fashion for pinterest

It’s wild thinking about the path my internet hotels have been on
AIM->MySpace->forums->4chan->facebook->reddit->reddit/twitter->tumblr
Using forums as the filler for variance gaming forums
End orders aren’t show but there is plenty of overlap
What a different person I could have been
Just neat to see how it turned out

The relative vernacular/accents of the internet was my High School Thesis!
I compared punctuation / syntax / verbiage in use on Facebook posts (our whole school was required to use FB for class things, so we also used it for social things) to redit, Tumblr, Twitter, and MySpace/LiveJournal (last 2 were very different platforms, but startling linguistic overlap).
At this point, I could probably pick out a Tumblr user at 100 yards. 😆
the most disorienting thing thats ever happened to me was when a linguistics major stopped in the middle of our conversation, looked me in the eye, and said, "you have a very interesting vernacular. were you on tumblr in 2014?" and i had to just stand there and process that one for a good ten seconds
