I had a subscription to all of these boxes at one time or another, but it has been years.

I remember (living in Germany) that shipping times are long, so getting the November box would be safest to have it by Christmas. And shipping is quite high which is another factor.

Often, you can find out which book will be featured in the box, so that's were I would start. Maybe this will already be the deciding factor.

Back in the days, The YA Chronicles only had paperback while the others had hardcover books, but this might have changed.

Also Fairyloot only has YA fanatasy (had?) while Owlcreate features all genres and YA Chronicles used to lean more towards contemporary.

Putting the shipping times aside, they often have special stuff for December like reading planners or sometimes a second paperback book. But December is also a time when many people will get a susbscription box so if money allows, it might be an option to sign up for November to make sure you get a spot in December.

Sometimes, the subscriptions are closed to new subscribers. This you should also check before investing too much time in further research.

Both Owlcrate and Fairyloot do have special boxes specific to a book or series (atm Owlcrate has a special edition box of M. Stiefvater's The Scorpio Races). I think Fairyloot only has special edition books while Owlcrate has some also with swag. They are always single purchases. This might also be something that could be of interest to you.

Lastly, there has been quite some discours about Owlcrate still selling HP merch.

advice on book subscription boxes?

I’m thinking about treating myself to a book box or two for Christmas and I was wondering what people’s favourite ones are. I’ve looked into Fairyloot, OwlCrate and The YA Chronicles but haven’t made a decision yet

they need to ship to Australia and preferably have an option to just buy one box rather than have to sign up for one month and then cancel but I’m open to suggestions :)
