The lack of basic research in F1 podcasting and other related “secondary” media sources is really pissing me off.
P1 with Matt and Tommy, which is a podcast I regularly listen to and actually fork out real money on Patreon for, is CONVINCED that the rumours Daniel is going to be replaced after Singapore have merit.
This is the UK’s most popular F1 podcast. And these guys didn’t even bother to watch Friday’s practice where RB said Daniel is categorically not getting replaced after the Singapore GP mid season. 2025 ofc is another story.
No wonder misinformation and rumours are running rampant when even media outlets you’d trust to do their research cannot be bothered to do basic research?????
via matt and tommy of the p1 podcast: kevin magnussen could potentially be banned from the next race (which is in baku) due to gaining more penalty points during the race today
please not that this is not confirmed by the fia
however, i tend to trust things that matt and tommy say, because even if they're not official, they tend to be correct usually
this will be interesting to follow, and if anything becomes official, i'll be sure to let you know!!
a non-exhaustive ranking of f1 podcasts that I listen to:
1. The Red Flags Podcast 🚩🚩🚩
I have to listen to this podcast on solitary walks because I laugh so hard that people stare at me weird in public. I like the fact that they have funny opinions (even the ones I disagree with). being self aware about f1 as a funny sport gives major points. This pod was my gateway drug into f1 too so it has get points there (Intern Jeni you will always be famous). If you listen to any episode, listen to the formula 101, but imo the funniest episode ever recorded was the coverage of the Bahrain GP in 2022.
2. Two Girls One Formula
Also very funny! in a different way though which is cool. Love the deep dives and the manifest minute and the general good energy that I get from these two extremely funny women. Love this show!! Ash Vandelay was a very cool guest too.
3. Fan Behavior Pod
A recent addition to my repertoire, but very solid , funny f1 content with cool special guests, and cool segments. Pop culture crossover moment is a personal fave.
4. Late Braking Podcast
You might be noticing by now that I rank the podcasts that are funny higher. This is true and I don’t apologize. These guys are funny, and I tend to learn something about the cars/the drivers/the sport when I listen.
5. Missed Apex Pod
More informative, still good, great special guests. Feel like an f1 intellectual catching up on these eps.
6. The Race
The most technical by far, and I only follow about half. Still have some very interesting episodes and compelling discussions.
Honorable mention: P1 with Matt and Tommy (too new to rank but great so far!)
Recommend this episode of the PitStop podcast with Ruth Buscombe who was head of race strategy at Alpha Romeo and has worked for Ferrari and Haas. Really interesting behind the scenes stories. And yes okay she also says nice things about Charles but it’s a great listen for many reasons.
“The first time he sent me an email I printed it out because it was one of the greatest moments of my life.” - on receiving an email from Ross Brawn
On 16th June 2022, WTF1 asked Sebastian Vettel some fan questions posted on social media. One of the questions they started off with was: “Do you prefer racing or ping pong?” This leads to Matt Gallagher asking Seb where he got the phrase from. Confusion and hilarity ensue.
I wish podcast listening numbers on spotify were publicly visible. I am just sitting here comparing the number of reviews of various f1 podcasts to each other and other big sports podcasts trying to get an idea of how popular they are in the grand scheme of things
