92/100 days of productivity
Monday, September 2nd 2024
Tumblr media
So, I have been struggling hard for the past week because of health issues. I have been sleeping much more than normal, around 9 hours during the night and then another 2 or 3 hours during the day, I have very little strengh to do anything... But I started a paliative treatment on Saturday and tomorrow I'm starting my real treatment!! So I'll be feeling better soon hopefully. That's why I haven't been productive last week (I did clean the house on Friday, tho). Today, however, I'm feeling a bit better already. I didn't go to class, cus I really needed to sleep more but here's what I did:
finished reading Asimov's The Naked Sun
took care of medical and health insurance stuff
studied the content of Intro to Philosophy class and did this week's assignement
did the dishes
did the homework for german class
read the introduction to Rousseau's On the Social Contract
I then made my bf watch Oldboy (2003) and he really liked it!!
Also, not related to productivity, but I want to say I hate health insurrance companies. They're just evil, that's the word. Capitalism is disgusting, those companies are disgusting, they do not want people to be well, happy and free. They do not care about that. They only want money. It truly disgusts me.

The Monkey King - Sun Wukong who first appears in Chinese stories (Journey to the West) during the Ming Dynasty period 1368 to 1644 CE, well after the introduction of Buddhism to China in about 206-220 CE.
But, was he inspired by another Monkey hero/character of myth?
Tumblr media
The prevailing and dominant theory among Asian scholars is ...yeah, likely.
That character, Hanuman, king of the monkeys (the monkey people -Vanaras- of Vedic myth!).
The story follows a Buddhist monk who is accompanied by Sun Wukong and others to travel west to India to obtain sacred Buddhist sutras. Many of their powers and personality traits are similar as well.
We know that Vedic god such as Indra have made their way as far as Japan to take root and be worshipped because of the spread of Buddhism.
As I've talked about before and is shown in texts such as the journey's of Ibn Battuta / Ibn Fadlan, storytelling was a weapon and powerful tool for idea transfer--propagation. Philosophy was huge in the old world - and places such as Nalanda - the first residential university in the world - invited scholars from all over such as Greeks from the west, and the Japanese. Buddhism became a vehicle for trading things such as: martial arts information, medicine, sciences, and of course, myths and stories.
However, as with stories, people usually altered/coopted elements and molded them to better suit their cultures and fancy. That's a thing as old as time. I've shared how the panchatantra stories and jatka tales are thought to be the inspiration for nearly 30-50 percent of all nursery rhymes, ballads, "fairy tales".
Anyways back to this theory - Chinese Indologist Professor Liu Anwu of Peking University has dedicated chapters to the comparisons (in one of his works) to further break down this theory focusing on consistent and or similar depictions of beats in Journey to the West that of Rama's story in Ramayama and the Buddhist sutras.
Even though today the story of Sun Wukong is a wholly Chinese story - it's important to note the power of oral storytelling and how it travelled evolved over thousands of years, and, just as important, the vehicles it used to do so. Not just storytellers and philosophers and travelers but religion! Philosophy!
This is a theme heavily commented on and shown in Tales of Tremaine, which is my love letter and sort of self PhD. in comparative storytelling, mythology, and story foundry through an Asiatic lens (hence a silk road analog) stretching along a similar route the silk road did from damn near as far as you can east (complete with the oceanic routes) to as west as old venezia, portugal, and spain.
Also note: this is the most popular theory atm, but the operative word is theory. Experts likely far better than you, Internet, so chill before you comment, are still debating this. I know last week some of you were doctors in sociopolitical relations, the music industry before that, and then you were leading virologists before that. Spare us simpler folks from your mighty genius just now and sit down.
The point here is the beauty of stories and their ability to travel and morph and comment on themes/points ideologies important to cultures while being entertaining and showing that humans like certain universal moments, beats, archetypes, tropes, and progressions in tales.
Now, is that because we've naturally been predisposed liking them, or the opposite in that everyone went, yo, i dig this, took it home and someone else went, this is cool but needs to be more US (insert culture) and retold it. And thus...timemachine noises speed up. Here we are today?
You might not know that about 35,000 Chinese words ( I said this instead of Mandarin because they don't just show up in one language) are derived from Sanskrit as well as Pali (a Middle Indo-Aryan Liturgical Language -- meaning language of sacredness/religious use, in this case connected to sacred Buddhist texts). It is important to make the distinction, because, Internet!
Sanskrit did not SHAPE the Chinese languages. They evolved on their own. This is just a commentary on how words/stories shaped over travel in this case strongly through the spread of Buddhism.
Religion was the mover.
Back from quick bathroom break. Going to add again - INSPIRED is the keyword here.
INSPIRED.
Sun Wukong is his own mythos/character. Influence doesn't nor can claim dominion over everything in a later tale. Sun Wukong has gone on himself to inspire legends and characters Outside of China - re: most famously and legendary?
Son Goku - who is openly a Sun Wukong inspired character.
...hell, tbh, he might be the most famous monkey inspired super powered character now. Dude makes soccer stadiums air his fights. @_@.

Rose's Kiss Week Day 4: Comfort
OCs: Marcus Asalun (aka Anchesh Pabat) and Umedes Oret-Pabat
Words: 608
Content warnings: none
Notes: Anchesh and Umedes have been married almost two years at this point. Umedes is a silver ferasca - dragon person - and the only one of Anchesh's spouses he's well and truly in love with. Minaya is Anchesh's younger sister, also expected to marry a member of each species, but not interested in doing so at the breakneck speed Anchesh has been keeping. Anchesh is worried, as always, that the human spouse options he'll be presented tomorrow will be terrible, but he'd accept whichever one his wives like.
Tomorrow would be the introduction, and hoping that Pali and Yera took to one of the options. That he did, but if they liked someone well enough he’d probably just sign off on it. Minaya would tell him not to be like that, but wouldn’t she do the same? Well, maybe she wouldn’t, but she had all the time in the world. He slowed and glanced up from his burning stare at the hallway carpet when he heard someone coming ahead. Probably a servant, in this part of the palace. But it was Umedes who stepped out of the cross-hallway and interrupted their trajectory to meet him where he was.
They were maybe four inches taller than him, but between their broad horns and fat build it always felt like more. Time seemed to pause as they stood over him, adjusting his goofy too-big lapels, smoothing their hands along the front of his waistcoat, letting the braids that framed his face run over their knuckles.
“Nervous? they murmured. They would know that this was the only thing on his mind, because it had been for days.
He sighed. “Yeah.”
“It will be fine.” Umedes had been through a formal spouse selection, so maybe they were right. They lifted one of his newly-wrapped braids in their fingers, turning it slightly to watch the metallic string change from azure to emerald. “Your hair is gorgeous.”
They probably didn’t mean for those things to be connected, but in typical Umedes fashion they made it sound like everything would be fine because he looked good. Honestly, maybe that was what he should focus on. He did look good, with his cornrows flowing around his horns and into the beaded box braids that cascaded down his upper back, and the four wrapped braids in front of his horns that shifted pleasantly against the fur at the edges of his cheeks. His outfit for tomorrow matched the blue, green, and copper of his braids, luxurious but understated. He couldn’t choose who the suitors would be or what anyone thought of them, but not everything was out of his control.
“Thank you,” he said.
Umedes ran a blunt claw back along the edge of his jaw until their thumb settled against his chin, then just as softly tilted his head up and kissed him. The moment he felt the smooth warmth of their lips against his, he was instantly anxious that someone was about to find them in this hallway, but that didn’t stop him from slipping a hand onto their neck, his fingers splitting over the square, fractured-looking plates at the corner of their jaw. He could let his fingers dance over them for hours, following the geological fault lines over and over like well-worn mountain trails. Maybe later he would. For now he was letting Umedes pull back, then changing his mind and stealing one more kiss before they both pretended they’d done nothing of interest in this public corridor.
Umedes stroked the edge of his lower lip before relinquishing their touch entirely. “We’ll all be there tomorrow,” they said, barely stepping back from him, their pink eyes shining. “And I’m sure the human coalition will choose as well as the others.”
“Probably yes,” he said.
Umedes gave him a soft little smile that said everything there was to say, and revealed a tiny corner of one fang. “Don’t sit by yourself all day.” They passed him with a gentle squeeze to his shoulder, and he couldn’t help watching them go, if only for a second.
His fiery stare at the carpet was more of a smolder as he continued down the hallway.

Exploring the Theistic Elements in Buddhist Philosophy: A Journey through Pali Canon to Mahayana Sutras and Tantras
Introduction:
Buddhism, often considered a nontheistic religion, diverges from traditional notions of a personal deity. The foundational teachings found in the Pali Canon emphasize the impermanence of existence and the absence of a creator god. However, as we delve into the rich tapestry of Buddhist thought, a nuanced exploration reveals a spectrum of perspectives, ranging from the non-deistic Pali Canon to the more mystically-hued Mahayana sutras and Tantras.
I. Pali Canon and Nontheistic Foundations:
The Pali Canon, containing the earliest recorded teachings of the Buddha, articulates a nontheistic stance. The emphasis lies on the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, and the concept of anatta (non-self). Here, gods (devas) are depicted as celestial beings in devaloka, experiencing temporary happiness but subject to the cycle of death and rebirth.
II. Hindu Agamas and Crossroads with Buddhism:
Drawing a connection to the Hindu Agamas, similarities emerge, reflecting the historical and cultural interplay between early Buddhism and Hinduism. Both traditions grapple with concepts of karma, rebirth, and the pursuit of liberation. Despite these parallels, Buddhism maintains its distinctive nontheistic flavor, resisting the notion of a supreme, eternal deity.
III. Mahayana Sutras: Mystical Dimensions and Ultimate Ground:
Mahayana Buddhism introduces a shift in focus, as some sutras convey a more mystical interpretation. Concepts like the "Awakened Mind" or "Buddha Nature" emerge, suggesting an immanent, omniscient, and transcendent reality underlying all things. This departure from strict nontheism opens the door to interpretations that border on theistic, albeit with a unique Buddhist flavor.
IV. Tantras and the Fusion of Transcendence:
Tantric Buddhism further expands the terrain, introducing esoteric practices and embracing a more explicit language of divine energy. Tantras, with their symbolic rituals and deity yoga, blur the lines between the immanent and the transcendent. The ultimate reality becomes a dynamic force intertwined with the practitioner's spiritual journey.
Conclusion:
In navigating the diverse landscape of Buddhist thought, it is crucial to recognize the evolution of ideas within different schools and historical contexts. While the Pali Canon emphasizes nontheism, Mahayana sutras and Tantras introduce elements that might resonate with theistic inclinations. The essence of Buddhism remains rooted in the quest for enlightenment, liberation from suffering, and the understanding of the nature of reality, regardless of the theological nuances that may emerge along the way.

Christen and Ali have known each other for years this should be a really cool episode! I’d love to know how Tobin and Ali met too, obviously they played each other in college and might’ve played together at Pali Blues but I’m wondering if their first proper introductions were through CP.
Yeah I can't wait to hear it!

Prana
Tumblr media
Introduction
One of my favorite YouTubers, Ralph Smarts aka Infinite Waters, used to say, “Breathe in that good prana!” What is prana?
Tumblr media
What is Prana and Pranayama?
Prana, derived from Sanskrit, is conceptualized as the vital life force or energy that permeates all living beings, integral to Indian philosophical systems such as yoga and Ayurveda. It is often associated with breath, symbolizing the link between the physical and astral bodies, as noted in texts like the Sivananda Yoga Farm teachings (Prana - Pranayama - Chakras - Kundalini | Sivananda Yoga Farm). Prana is understood as the vital life force or energy that flows through all living beings, central to Indian philosophical traditions like yoga and Ayurveda.
Pranayama, a compound of "prana" (life energy) and "ayama" (control or extension), is the practice of controlling and manipulating this energy through specific breathing techniques, such as controlling the duration of inhalation, exhalation, and holding the breath. It aims to balance prana for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Tumblr media
Origin and History
Pranayama's origins trace back to ancient India, with the earliest mentions in the Upanishads, dated between 800 and 500 BCE, where it is described as part of yogic practices, notably in the Maitrayaniya Upanishad. The Bhagavad Gita, composed between 400 BCE and 200 CE, references pranayama in chapter 4, verse 29, as a method for breath control to achieve a trance state. Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, from around 200 BCE to 400 CE, formalize pranayama as the fourth limb of the eight-limbed path, emphasizing its role in steadying the mind. Over centuries, it evolved through Hatha yoga, which introduced techniques like Nadi Shodhana, Ujjayi, and Kapalabhati, expanding its practice for holistic health.
Tumblr media
Evolution and Development
Post-Patanjali, pranayama saw significant development, particularly in the Hatha yoga tradition, with the 15th-century Hatha Yoga Pradipika detailing techniques like Kumbhaka, Bandhas, and various pranayamas such as Bhastrika and Kapalabhati, aiming for kevala kumbhaka (complete suspension of breathing) (Pranayama - Wikipedia). This evolution marked a shift toward physical and energetic benefits, expanding its application beyond spiritual goals.
Interestingly, pranayama also influenced Buddhist practices, with the Buddha practicing painful breath restraint before enlightenment, as noted in the Pali Canon, and later Indo-Tibetan forms from the 11th century, like the nine breathings of purification in Tibetan traditions (Pranayama - Wikipedia). This cross-cultural adoption highlights its versatility and adaptability.
In modern yoga, particularly as exercise, pranayama practices have diverged from traditional cessation of breathing to synchronizing breath with movements, as seen in contemporary yoga classes (Pranayama - Wikipedia). This shift reflects a broader accessibility, with benefits researched for physical and emotional health, such as lowering blood pressure and enhancing mindfulness, as noted in a 2022 study mentioned in Healthline.
Tumblr media
Techniques and Types
Pranayama encompasses a variety of techniques, each with specific methods and benefits. Common types include:
Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing): Purifies energy channels, starting with slow breathing and potentially including breath retention (kumbhaka), as described in What is Pranayama? Different Types of Pranayama.
Ujjayi (Victorious Breath): Involves forceful diaphragmatic breathing, compared to a blacksmith's bellows in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, enhancing energy flow (How Many Pranayamas Are There? - Complete List and Explanations).
Kapalabhati (Skull Shining Breath): Rapid, forceful exhalation, traditionally a cleansing method but now considered pranayama, similar to Bhastrika, aiding in reducing belly fat and inflammation (What is Pranayama? Different Types of Pranayama).
These techniques vary, with some sources listing up to 14 types, each tailored for different physical and mental outcomes, as seen in 14 types of Pranayamas | Diva Yoga. The practice's flexibility allows for integration into meditation, asana, or standalone exercises, enhancing its applicability.

Energy Healing sessions
Energy Healing Sessions for Vipassana Healing Meditation
Introduction to Energy Healing
Energy healing is an old art that aims at balancing and harmonizing the body, mind, and spirit. It is premised on the notion that our bodies are encompassed by a life force, which is also called prana, chi, or universal energy. When the energy is blocked or out of balance, it results in physical, emotional, or spiritual pain. Energy healing is aimed at eliminating these blockages so that energy can circulate freely and foster general wellness.
Vipassana Healing Meditation weaves the theory of mindfulness and energy healing, resulting in an integrated methodology for promoting self-consciousness, strengthening inner calmness, and advancing emotional and physical healing. Bringing these techniques together, individuals will be able to undergo immense transformation and inner knowing.
Learning About Vipassana Healing Meditation
Vipassana, which translates to "insight" or "clear seeing" in Pali, is a meditation technique that aims at profound self-knowledge and seeing things as they are. It is practiced traditionally by giving careful attention to body sensations, thoughts, and feelings without judgment. When used with energy healing, Vipassana Healing Meditation is an effective tool to let go of emotional blockages, heal emotional wounds, and develop inner peace.
By undergoing organized sessions of energy healing, Vipassana meditators are able to enrich their meditation practice, speed up their healing process, and establish a stronger bond with their higher self.
Advantages of Energy Healing Sessions in Vipassana Healing Meditation
Emotional Healing and Stress Reduction
Energy healing methods like Reiki, Pranic Healing, and Chakra Balancing function to break down bad energy and emotional blockages retained in the body. Vipassana Healing Meditation assists one in observing and releasing these negative patterns, gaining a feeling of emotional freedom and inner peace.
Physical Well-being
Most physical conditions have a root cause in the energy, usually through repressed emotions or chronic stress. Energy healing removes these energy disturbances and assists the body in utilizing its own healing capabilities. When practiced with Vipassana, physical health is enhanced, pain is minimized, and vitality is improved.
Increased Mindfulness and Awareness
Energy healing gets the mind ready for a deeper meditative state by balancing the nervous system and enhancing positive energy flow. This improves the concentration, being present, and mindfulness during Vipassana meditation.
Spiritual Evolution and Alignment
By clearing the energy field and energizing upper chakras, energy healing facilitates a closer union with one's spiritual nature. Vipassana Healing Meditation supplements this by offering a model to see through and rise above mental restrictions, resulting in profound spiritual awareness.
Freedom from Past Trauma and Karmic Patterns
Most people harbor unresolved trauma and karmic imprints that influence their current life. Energy healing helps release these deeply rooted patterns, whereas Vipassana facilitates recognition and dissolution through conscious observation.
Types of Energy Healing Techniques Utilized in Vipassana Healing Meditation
Reiki Healing
Reiki is a Japanese method whereby a practitioner transmits universal energy into the body of the receiver, aligning their energy field. Combined with Vipassana meditation, Reiki serves to melt down energy blockages, thereby making it simpler for one to reach a meditative state that is deeper.
Pranic Healing
Pranic Healing cleanses and charges the body's energy field without physical contact. This method eliminates stagnant energy, increases mental clarity, and helps in emotional balance, facilitating the Vipassana practitioner's path of self-discovery.
Chakra Balancing
The human body contains seven major chakras that govern physical and emotional well-being. Chakra balancing methods ensure these energy centers are operating at their best, enabling a deeper Vipassana meditation experience.
Sound Healing
Sound healing employs frequencies of singing bowls, gongs, and tuning forks to align the body's energy. These vibrations complement the Vipassana practice by soothing the mind and increasing the meditative state.
Crystal Healing
Crystals have the power to amplify and balance energy. Certain crystals can be placed on or around the body during meditation to help clear negative energy and increase spiritual awareness.
Structure of an Energy Healing Session in Vipassana Healing Meditation
Grounding and Centering
The session starts with grounding exercises like deep breathing or visualization to make the person feel centered and present.
Energy Scanning and Assessment

Introduction to High-Frequency Induction Heating Machines
High-frequency induction heating machines are advanced devices that use electromagnetic induction to generate heat in conductive materials. This non-contact heating method is highly efficient, precise, and versatile, making it an essential tool in various industries such as automotive, aerospace, electronics, and metallurgy.
These machines work by creating a high-frequency alternating current (AC) that flows through a coil, generating a rapidly changing magnetic field. When a conductive material is placed within this field, eddy currents are induced in the material, causing it to heat up due to resistive losses. The localized heating effect allows for precise temperature control and rapid heat cycles, minimizing energy waste and production time.
Key Features:
High Efficiency: Converts energy directly into heat within the target material, reducing energy losses.
Precision Heating: Enables controlled heating of specific areas without affecting the surrounding material.
Non-Contact Process: No physical contact between the heating coil and the material, reducing wear and maintenance.
Rapid Heating: Achieves high temperatures in seconds, suitable for high-throughput production.
Common Applications:
Metal Hardening: For tools, gears, and other components requiring a hardened surface.
Brazing and Soldering: Joining metals with minimal thermal distortion.
Melting and Forging: For small-scale casting and metalworking operations.
Heat Shrinking: In applications like fitting gears or bearings.
High-frequency induction heating machines offer an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional heating methods by eliminating the need for open flames or excessive energy consumption. They are ideal for modern industries that prioritize sustainability, efficiency, and precision.

The Pali word jhana literally means "to meditate." It also refers to a traditional series of states of absorption, each deeper than the last, in which the mind is undistracted by sensation, thoughts, or moods. Shaila Catherine's friendly, wise approach, blended with contemporary examples and pragmatic "how to" instructions that anyone can try, will show meditators (and non-meditators) how to attain these extraordinary states with relative ease. But jhana practice is about much more than just meditation or concentration; it offers a complete path toward bliss, fearlessness, and true awakening. From the introduction: Jhanas are states of happiness that can radically transform the heart, reshape the mind, imbue consciousness with enduring joy and ease, and provide an inner resource of tranquility that surpasses any conceivable sensory pleasure. Jhanas are states of deep rest, healing rejuvenation, and profound comfort that create a stable platform for transformative insight. In this approach to jhana, we use the calming aspects of concentration to support the investigative aspects of insight meditation. The fruit of concentration is freedom of heart and mind. This new edition of the meditation classic clarifies crucial points and offers twenty-one additional exercises, making this a great book for both those new to jhana practice and those looking to deepen their practice.
