Desert Duo Week: Apologies & Forgiveness

I WAS ABLE TO DO THE WHOLE WEEK 🎉!!! This was so much fun and thank you @desert-duo-week for making this happen! My only comment on this piece is that I wanted to do a hug even tho I don’t know how to draw people hugging, look at me go getting out of my comfort zone <3.

Hermitcraft headcanon:

We all know birdboy Grian, right? Well I propose this; he has his parrot wings, but he painted them to look like a seagull for the fisherman bit not expecting it to take that long for him to get mending. He hates it intensely but he’s committed to The Bit™ and that’s also the headcannon-appropriate reason for why he can’t fly, because an Avian wouldn’t need an elytra

Scar’s a tree fairy! He very quickly fell in love with the beautiful parrot that moved into his tree

And that's saying a lot considering Scar is very picky about his tree. Only the best creatures get to move in, the leaves are only allowed to fall at the right times, and the sap never dries ugly.

But this parrot... He's never seen a more beautiful creature. He's seen plenty of other birds before, most too cocky or egotistical to ever make a nest in his tree. But this one was... softer. Not quieter, Scar is pretty sure no birds ever are, but nicer. He took to Scar's fae tricks easily, and started playing his own in return.

Scar is just waiting for the right time to ask to move into Grian's nest.

So, looking into birds and how they are related to one another: essentially, canaries and parrots are sister taxa (a sister group), and their closest relations are falcons. Essentially, falcons are parrots if they never learned vocal learning and were ace hunters.

With this info, and putting it into the Life Series....

Grian, originally having parrot wings, is surprised when he has falcon wings instead when he wakes up in 3rd life, even if they won't work (either clipped or bound, he's not sure). He doesn't understand why he has these wings until the deaths start happening and he feels it. How he stalks his prey, how he wants to kill. The need for their demise is great and overwhelming.

Jimmy's final life ends, though Grian doesn't see it. They are close friends, spend time together all the time, but his death, sadly, isn't surprising.

The games are changing everyone, either in big or small ways. Joel becoming more wild and desperate; Martyn staring for too long.

The first game ends with Grian's win and he understands completely why his wings changed.

When Last Life starts and he sees Jimmy, sees his canary wings, he remembers how close they are. Remembers how these games are changing everyone

And he wonders if his presence influenced Jimmy's change
