The Last Act Shaina Tranquilino August 25, 2024
Tumblr media
Henry Aldridge had spent the better part of his life under the warm glow of stage lights, his voice carrying the weight of countless characters to eager audiences. For decades, he had been the star, the one who commanded attention with every gesture, every line delivered with the precision of a master craftsman. But time, as it does, had softened his once-powerful presence. The roles became fewer, the applause quieter, until one day, he took his final bow and retreated into the quiet life of retirement.
Years passed, and the theater world moved on without him. Henry filled his days with long walks, old books, and memories of a time when the world seemed to revolve around him. Yet, something was missing—a spark, a purpose. He had left the stage, but the stage had not left him. It lingered in his thoughts, in the way he still spoke as if delivering a soliloquy, in the way he missed the buzz of opening night.
One crisp autumn morning, as he strolled past the old theater where he had performed countless times, a poster caught his eye. "Auditions for The Winter's Tale, directed by Laura Townsend." Laura, a dear friend and former co-star, was now a respected director in her own right. Impulsively, Henry pushed open the heavy doors and walked inside, the familiar scent of dust and velvet bringing back a flood of memories.
Laura was surprised to see him, her eyes widening with delight as she embraced him. "Henry! What a wonderful surprise!"
They chatted for a while, catching up on life and reminiscing about the past. Then, as they talked about the upcoming play, Laura hesitated before asking, "Henry, have you ever thought about directing?"
He was taken aback. Directing? He had always been the one in the spotlight, never the one behind it. But as she explained that she needed someone with his experience to guide the young actors, Henry felt a flicker of excitement he hadn't felt in years.
"Why not?" he said finally, surprising himself as much as Laura. "Let's give it a try."
Rehearsals began, and Henry found himself in a new role, one that required patience, wisdom, and a different kind of artistry. He watched as young actors stumbled over lines, struggled with stage directions, and wrestled with the characters they were trying to bring to life. It was frustrating at first, seeing them make mistakes he would have avoided, but then something changed.
Henry realized that this was his opportunity to pass on everything he had learned. He started offering gentle guidance, sharing techniques that had been passed down to him, and encouraging them when they felt overwhelmed. Slowly, he began to see the spark in their eyes, the moment when they understood the character they were playing, the joy of finding the right rhythm in a scene.
The play took shape, and with it, Henry found his own transformation. He was no longer the star, but he was something more—a mentor, a guide, a bridge between the past and the future. Opening night arrived, and as he watched from the wings, the young actors delivered their lines with confidence, their performances a reflection of the passion he had rekindled in them.
As the final curtain fell and the audience erupted into applause, Henry felt a sense of fulfillment he hadn’t known he was missing. He had returned to the stage, not to relive past glories, but to find a new purpose, a new role that suited him perfectly.
When the cast called him to join them on stage, he hesitated for only a moment before stepping into the light. The applause was for them, but it was also for him—for the man who had once been the star and had now found his place as the guiding hand behind the scenes.

Passing the Torch: Moses' Death and the Future of Israel
BOOK OF MOSES BY LESTER PICKER
Hey there, Tumblr community! 👋✨
Join me in exploring the profound impact of Moses' death on the future of Israel. Moses, a legendary figure in history, shaped the destiny of an entire nation through his leadership and unwavering faith. 🌟🌍
As we delve into the transition of leadership to Joshua, let's unravel the enduring lessons we can learn from this pivotal moment. #PassingTheTorch 🕯️
From Moses' miraculous journey out of Egypt to his guidance through the wilderness, his influence on Israel's religious, moral, and civil life is undeniable. 🌊✨
But when the time came for Moses to pass the torch, Joshua emerged as the chosen successor. This seamless transition ensured continuity and laid the foundation for Israel's future. 🙌🔥 #SeamlessSuccession
With Moses' passing, Israel faced new challenges and responsibilities. Upholding Moses' teachings, maintaining their covenant with God, and continuing their journey to the Promised Land now rested on Joshua's shoulders and the Israelite community. 💪🌈 #CarryingForward
Together, they forged ahead, facing trials and battles, guided by Joshua's faith and commitment to Moses' vision. 🛡️⚔️ #FaithInAction
This transition holds timeless lessons for us all. It reminds us of the importance of strong leadership, seamless succession planning, and the continuity of values and vision within a community or organization. 💡🌱 #LeadershipLessons
Even great leaders are mortal, and it is our collective responsibility to carry forward their causes. Let's reflect on the significance of Moses and Joshua's journey, and how it relates to our own lives. 🌟✨
Join the conversation, share your thoughts, and let's appreciate the enduring impact of passing the torch to the next generation. ✨💬 #PassingTheTorch #LeadershipLegacy

The 11th year
It happened I truly never imagined it actually happen.
The one time I decided to not be jealous.
This time I didn't even put up a fight.
Like a tornado I saw it spinning I stepped aside and allowed it to pass me.
Many things in the air I was happy to see flung away.
They are all her burdens now.
I only feel muscle soreness from holding it together all those years.
Now and then the perks are worth missing.
Better for me to be alone.
That decade behind us just dust.
After bad weather, u didn't want to pick up the pieces.
So I put down the ones in hand...
Why clean up a mess I didn't create myself just to see it crumble again.
No one stole it from me I gave it away deep down I didnt want it anymore years of pain and tears.
Calm.
Serenity.
No more wondering if Best
Was code for frienemy.
She will envy me once she wanders into what waters she thinks she stole from me..
That year my 11:11 wish came true
No more wishing for you😊

So there's a lot of dark themes here that I don't feel qualified to talk about. Familial abuse, manipulation, and just plain evil. This is just what comes to mind when I think about the Osborns. But if you think you suffer from this kind of thing in real life I'd point out betterhelp.com, Kati Morton on youtube, a suicide hotline, a local pastor...There's really a lot of help out there. As a christian I know that the Gospel is the ultimate source of hope, so I recomend looking up "the biggest question full movie" for a comprehensive view of what the Gospel is. I wish you the best. [MONOLGUE MONDAY] Today, was a day that demonstrated the fullness of my work, and I am forever grateful to @dr.hollinssims from PaTTAN for giving us space to share how we work toward equity and inclusion in our suburban high school. . Last week, I was able to meet with many members of my student dream team to help organize our presentation for this afternoon’s mini webinar. It was so energizing, as we spoke freely about the work we have done and the work that we must continue to push toward full realization. My graduates took copious notes and put together an outline—all without any prompting! It showed me how much I missed working with them on facilitating difficult conversations about race and the various ways in which people are othered. . Overall, the experience was a much-needed demonstration of my purpose and the power that comes from creating space for students to be heard and valued, especially those who are in the margins. . I’m eternally grateful for these kids. As they continue the work on their college campuses, in their communities, and in our school. They are not future change agents. They are PRESENT DAY change agents! My heart is full! 🥰🥰🥰. . #teachingtolerance #blackschoolpsychologist #schoolpsychologist #blackwomenlead #changeagent #blackeducator #supportherhustle #blackscholarsmatter #melanated #teammelanin #naturalnerd #blackscholars #destroythehate #socialcommentary #blackeducators #blackvoices #blackscholars #equityandinclusion #equityinPAschools #passingthetorch #futureleaders #younggiftedandblack #representationmatters #speakyourtruth #speaktruth #socialjusticeeducation #culturallyresponsiveteaching #courageousconversations #speakup https://www.instagram.com/p/ByQ4RnrHT7R/?igshid=lcxhu0m26bmf

Passing the Torch
James and John Harper founded their publishing firm, J. & J. Harper, in 1817. In 1833 the firm changed its name to Harper & Brothers and began to use variations on the publishers’ device shown above: two hands with a torch.
According to the 1889 edition of The Book Buyer : A Summary of American and Foreign Literature, the meaning behind the Harper & Brothers device stems from Book I of Plato’s Republic, which has a reference to a torch race at a festival in honor of a Thracian Goddess that reads: “Carrying torches, they will pass them on to one another.”
Here we see two variations on the Harper & Brothers device from the front covers of two books. The first example is from 1846, the second example is from 1856. Although Harper & Brothers has since become HarperCollins Publishers LLC, resulting from a merger with Scottish publisher, William Collins, Sons, the torch has remained a part of their legacy. The current HarperCollins device combines the two firms’ logos: a torch above a fountain.
