I never understood why the government felt a need to get involved with healthcare services. From what I've heard of from older adults, healthcare was cheaper and more efficient before Obamacare.

I remember my friend at the time going from low class to below poverty in the span of months when Obamacare was rolled out. She's forever blamed Obama for her family falling into poverty. My family was also not so lucky. We fell from low-middle class to low class and barely making things meet. I'm sure there were other decisions Obama did that caused this sudden change, but most adults I know have placed this on Obamacare.

Have you seen The Godfather trilogy? Idk why but Michael/Connie is growing on me. I watched the trilogy back in 2017 and rewatched the first movie yesterday. I guess the ship makes sense bc 1) what Michael does to Connie's husband and 2) the Corleones are based off the Borgia family, who were rumored to be incestuous. IDK. I like Michael/Connie.

(Also in Godfather 3 there is a relationship between Mary and her cousin. Yay)

I have seen The Godfather trilogy but I don't know it super well. I shipped Michael/Connie but I haven't gone very deep with it, so I'm so glad that you shared your commentary. These sorts of mafia families lend themselves to family shipping a lot - Peaky Blinders is another good example of that same kind of thing. And perhaps part of that vibe comes from the Borgias. It would make sense.

The Godfather Part III has always been my favorite even though it's considered to not be as good as the others just because I love Vincent/Mary so much. That's a cousin/cousin relationship done really well.

The 2004 Queer Eye soundtrack was bomb. I didn't watch it @ the time - as I was 11 or 12 and Straight myself - but my mom had the CD and played it and I loved it so much. I figured it was music that adults liked and I'd be sophisticated if I listened.

I stole the CD years ago and I still have it. My favorite tracks are the Kylie Minogue, Sting, Basement Jaxx, and Duran Duran songs. I still feel Cool whenever I listen.

I got so much stuff! A sweater, some Lush, two sets of bookends, some candy, a DVD player, an awesome candle, a book of all the art in the Louvre, a faux Louis Vuitton bag, an air fryer, a mini coffee maker, and $35.

As today (April 15th) is not only my birthday but the birthday of Lord Byron's incest baby, Medora Leigh, let me tell you of the Hallmark miniseries of Frankenstein - starring Donald Sutherland as Captain Walton and (young) Matthew Crawley from Downton Abbey as Henry Clerval - and how they made it an accidentally incestuous mess.

In the book, Captain Walton has a sister, Margaret Saville. I assume she's his older sister but whatever. She never appears in the actual story, she is only mentioned in her brother's letters to her. Early on in the first half of the miniseries, Victor Frankenstein asks Walton if he's ever known love. Walton responds by showing him a picture of Margaret and says "My sister is my only love".

Now, this next bit is the part that killed me. In the book, The Monster hangs out on that old guys farm and reads his books and does nice stuff for him yeah? The old blind guy lives w/ his son Felix, Felix's Middle Eastern gf, and his sister Agatha. Now, I assume since this was the early 2000s and due to certain things the GF was wrote out. And they made Agatha and Felix A WHOLE ASS MARRIED COUPLE. WITH A KID (and maybe one on the way bc The Monster watches them do it - its not even graphic but you know they boning - at one point). THEY'RE SIBLINGS. WAS THAT ALLOWED IN BACKWOODS GERMANY? I mean its a cute af idea but why Hallmark?

Also the whole Victor and Elizabeth either being raised as siblings or cousins, which my mom thought was nasty but if they are blood they're only distantly related, so its okay actually?

Between the accidental incest and two implied sex scenes, Hallmark was balls to the wall two decades ago.

ohhh thanks for the rec! I admit I watched the bit (tiny little bit) for the actor I'm hyperfixating lately but yeah I was intrigued enough at the time seeing the very bizarre comical vibes from the movie (the way they tried and failed stabbing the vampire). It's definitely on my list now!

I bought a second hand DVD copy of The Master in 2017 and it came w/ a little postcard of Lancaster Dodd and I adored it, I kept it in my old car's glove compartment and later my desk drawer. I don't know where it is now and I think about my PSH/Daddy Dodd postcard a lot and I miss it so much 💔

You would think that if people hated Trump so much, someone would have actually tried (or at least plotted?) to assassinate him these past four years, y'know? Like if he's *so* bad, why didn't y'all just kill him? (This is merely an observation; I don't like Trump personally but I would never kill anyone).

I've thought about that. I believe this boils down to two main aspects (setting aside the morality of this). First major one - those who hate him to such extremes typically do not own a gun. The next major reason is, simply put, they are fragile. They talk a lot of game, but cannot live up to it. See Antifa vs. Proud Boys in DC not too long ago. They waited until sun down when the crowd had greatly dispersed before making a move. They targeted mostly the weaker protestors who couldn't fight back as easily or were isolated from larger groups. Typical cowardly tactics one would expect from the fascist Antifa.

I will say, President Trump has to be the most interesting president to date. He has drawn in massive amount of support, but at the same time is hated by many. Has there ever been such a conflicting president before?

quakers can do whatever they like, there are no rules, there's no set creed, it's just you and your conscience and how you feel led

i guess i can see how some people might be concerned about the cost of tattoos when the money could go to help people, or see it as a needless extravagance (and therefore not aligned with the testimony of simplicity), but other than that i can't think of any reason why quakers wouldn't get tattoos or piercings? lots of younger quakers i know have piercings, a few have tattoos. the whole simplicity thing is about not letting things be a distraction, not engaging in consumerism or wastefulness for the sake of it, rather than being about showing no individuality

i guess if you only know the plaindressing type of quakers it might be different but i've never met one of them in the uk, whenever i come across them on the internet they're usually us-based i think
