Project Halloween 2025: Part 1

Surprising NO ONE, I'm giving Sonic 3 Robotnik a shot this year. In looking for references and such, I realized that it would probably be a good idea to document all of this for Cosplay Posterity and all the other unhinged Eggheads out there. Yes, the unspoiled Sonic 2 version of the coat is for sale in several places for about $120. Which is probably cheaper than it would be to make this from scratch. BUT I got a pre-made Star-Lord jacket several years ago and while it fit okay ... I want this to fit perfectly. Because Ivo's does. Because Stone loves him. But I digress.

I'm using McCall's Pattern #M7821 for the base. I got it from JoAnn Fabrics (RIP), but I'm sure there are plenty of other places it can be found, because it's McCall's. The WalMart of Patterns.

Then, using photos of the pre-made coat and copious screenshots as reference, I started mocking up how I'll need to alter the pattern to become The Coat.

I have a RIDICULOUS amount of screenshots from various sources to get the placement of the granny squares, torn bits, and other alterations added in, but ... you've got to make a new coat before you can wreck it, in terms of procedure. I'm leaving it here for tonight, but in the interest of completion, here are the gloves I bought that I plan on altering, and an Etsy listing for a really good 3D-printed replica of the goggles.

If you’re not a knitter then you probably won’t understand exactly how batshit doing this was. That’s fine, but I’ll explain under the cut for anyone who’s interested. The pattern is Guðrún Herdís Arnarsdóttir's modification of Lyle Stafford’s one ring scarf (both are free).

The eye at each end I wrote the pattern for myself based on a design on the cover of the editions of the Lord of the Ring I grew up with (i.e., my dad’s, for whom the scarf was a present).

The scarf is done using a technique called double knitting, which means you’re working both sides of the scarf literally at the same time, carrying two yarns forward and back to alternately knit and purl and alternating which colour you’re using (work the knits with colour A, purl with colour B, swap for the other side). This gives you something which has two sides that are stockinette, but different colours.

The technique allows you to make an identical pattern on both sides by switching which colour you’re using for the knit and purl stitches. The advantage of this is that you end up with the two sides woven together rather than a tube and don’t have to carry the yarn as with stranded colour work.

The problem with this is when you’re working a non-symmetrical pattern where it matters which way around the writing is. The writing will be the correct way around on one side, but backwards on the other side.

Guðrún’s modification fixes this, but the trade-off is that because you’re no longer working the pattern the same on both sides you now have four potential stitch combinations instead of two (AB, BA, AA, and BB).

Just to make it even more complicated for my project the pattern colour-coded the stitch combos and uses black and red for two of the combos, but not for what for my scarf would be black-black and red-red. This caused more than one error. I have undone and redone a lot of rows.

I always head canoned jimmy to be a golden retriever and joel to be a tiny feral dogo

but they are clearly not here and I wonder what breed you drew them as and why you choose them to be that in the au

golden retriever was actually one of the breeds that i was considering in the brainstorming stages (along with some terrier breeds) but i eventually settled on the good old beagle for jimmy.

to me personally, beagle fits because they and their hound cousins are just a little more plucky and scrappy than "himbo-soft" golden retrievers are stereotyped as. jimmy is brash and foolhearted to an hilarious degree so i wanted to give him a more "goofy but still a hunting dog" feeling if that makes any sense at all.

also beagles are known for baying and i think it could function as a fun parallel symbol to the canary stuff he has going on.

and lastly, scott is a sheltie (and martyn and tango are medium-small sized breeds as well), so i wanted jimmy to fit in those size ranges and dynamics. he also just doesn't read big or small dog to me so medium size he is!

and good ole joel is a jack russel because that breed is terror on tiny legs. joel has a truly potent amount of small dog energy with the ferocity and gaul to back it up, so he gets the jack russ because those guys are as if a rabid animal and also 200 live grenades was packed into 10-pounds worth of dog.

it was a debate on whether to give grian, bdubs, or joel the jack russel terrier as they are all (just a little) napoleon-complex personalities to me but jack russel fit joel best design-wise and i ended up finding breeds that work with the other two better

Not sure how organized my thoughts on this are, but after rewatching the "To Ashes and Blood" fight in 2x03 "Finally Got the Name Right," I'm really thinking about the connections between Jinx and Janna.

The official lyrics for "To Ashes and Blood" include translations for the chanted bits, Shuriman prayers to the goddess Jan’ahrem (Janna):

Janna is the patron goddess of Zaun, revered for blowing away the toxic Grey smog as it choked the Zaunite miners. And I think it's interesting that Jinx confronts Vi and Caitlyn in Janna's old cathedral, and their final confrontation happens under her watching gaze.

In the literal sense, Vi and Caitlyn are blown away when Sevika opens the turbines, but symbolically they're swept away after violating Janna's protection of the people of Zaun, and the three Zaunites (Sevika, Jinx, and Isha) remain, clinging to Janna's alter.

It seems like Jinx is taking on a maybe not exactly religious symbolism to the people of Zaun, but a similar role as a powerful entity who stood up for Zaun and its people when no one else would; Zaun's patron saint if not patron goddess.

The Arcane is waking up and new prophets are arising, and in a world where magic is real and genuine belief is very powerful, I'm wondering what might happen.

Making Origami (the natsuyuu character)

I went looking for "origami doll" online and found a pattern I could edit to look more like the character.

This will be in two parts, because of the photo limit. I'll link the pattern in the second part when it's time to make the body. We'll start first with the head, which I made my own pattern for.

Instructions under the cut.

For the head, start with a paper square a quarter of the size of the square you will use to make the body I cut a sheet of regular origami paper into quarters.

Step 1: Fold the paper in half and unfold it in both directions.

Step 2: Fold the outer edges along the halfway point to get quarters. Only do this in one direction.

Step 3: Unfold the paper. Fold the outer edges along the quarter lines to make eighths.

Step 4: Unfold. Fold it back into quarters. Fold each corner in diagonally, using the eighths line as a guide.

Step 5: Fold it in half shortways. Make sure to fold it so that the center seam and one-eighths creases are visible.

Step 6: fold the top corners in along the eighths line. I reccommend doing this front and back for these two corners.

Step 7: Unfold all corners. Unfold the halfway fold, then fold it again in the opposite direction. The center seam should now be inside the fold.

I like statistics so I wanna like, study what it is about certain games or series that seems to collect folks like that. Is it how the fandom treats a piece of media? Is it the demographic? I donno!

Like if we all just decided to treat doom 2016 the same way we treat ultrakill would introjects n stuff start popping up over there too? (I picked doom cause it's a bloody shoot em up with religious undertones and insano angst potential, but feel free to insert any other game here too) I'm just genuinely curious about it all
