Earlier this month Variety announced that a new ‘The Wizard of Oz’ movie was in the works, to be directed by Nicole Kassell of HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ fame. We shall see if and when this reimagined version will ever come to us. It seems like everyone has put their own spin on this classic L. Frank Baum tale, including Donny and Marie in 1977 with their 'The Wizard of Osmond' musical finale on 'The Donny and Marie Show'. In this carefully crafted theatrical number, Lucy plays the Osmond version of the 'The Tin Man' as 'Tin Lizzie' who travels to the land of 'Os' on the "yellow brick road paved in asphalt" to be transformed into 'Teflon Tess'. Her traveling companions are Marie Osmond as 'Dorothy', Ray Bolger (from the original 1939 movie) as 'Samuel Sullivan Scarecrow', and Paul Williams as 'The Big Lion'. Got this bundle a while ago. Guess I was in a really Halloween-prep mood. A couple of upgrades and a couple I’ve been meaning to get forever. FYI, Christina Ricci was possibly my biggest celeb crush. Like one of those who still gets to me. Also, Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are sometimes an awesome combo (other times not, but these times awesome). And, Paul Lynne, well, he’s just amazing. I wish this Halloween special had more Halloweenish skits, but can’t complain with KISS, Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch, and Witchy Poo as her sister too! Ha! @billyeichner interview with Deadline Hollywood regarding new film project MAN IN A BOX on the life of #PaulLynde truly hti the deeply. His honesty and candidness made me feel heard as #Oprah has been saying for years. I guess having the first name Billy (#BillyPorter another great out actor) is a sign of big change! I know being an out gay actor to many is old school. And I understand that their are bigger fish to fly these days with #blacklivesmatter and #covid and so many other issues that I support with all my heart and soul. With that said... I am an actor/comedian like Billy & #PaulLynde. I came out in 1993 on national TV when very few were out. It was not a an easy path, but Im glad I did it. My hope is it supported others to live their truth and not feel as alone as I did in my career and childhood in my early years. I have been very lucky to make a living in this biz and I am grateful for the career I have had. But when Billy answered the questions from Deadlines Mike Fleming Jr. ... it felt like he was talking FOR me. I often wonder "if you break the ground do you get to walk on it". With all this time to think staying home of late during corona. After reading the article, I wondered once again...do #LGBTQ people get the same opportunities as our straight counterparts? When we have a success is it treated the same way? Am I asking for too much for myself? Many Industry folks have told me how supportive they are of us. But not many of us have moved to the next level of our careers. I wanted to say a big thank you to my younger gay brother Billy for speaking out with such confidence for all of us. Billy has opened the door in a big way with this interview. So as he opens the door. Let's work together and think how we can support him.
