There were reasons Jaime had asked Arthur to be his fake boyfriend for the holidays and not someone else — 1) he didn't have plans and Jaime didn't like the idea of him being on his own for the week, 2) he had enough tact to, hopefully, piss off Dad without starting a literal war over the dinner table, and 3) he was possibly the least flirty person Jaime had ever met, so this wouldn't turn into anything weird.

When Keith accidentally takes a love potion, he doesn't understand why all his friends are so freaked out about it. The potion was defective. It was supposed to make him fall in love with Shiro, and his feelings for Shiro haven't changed at all.

But Shiro refuses to come anywhere near him until the potion wears off. Everyone else insists on proving that it's actually working, resulting in a love-potioned Lance who won't shut up about how pretty Shiro is. Yet Shiro's more tolerant of that than of any hint of affection from Keith.

Keith's not jealous. Jealousy is pointless, and it doesn't matter anyway. He's not in love with Shiro. Is he?

After season 8, Keith goes reality hopping.

Three days ago, he pulled Keith's broken body out of the Red Lion and put him in cryo in case he-- just in case. Two days ago, Allura held him while he tried not to cry, and kindly didn't point out that there was nothing to be done.

Yesterday, they crossed into an alternate reality and encountered a Voltron that managed to defeat Zarkon and remain whole, and he glimpsed that Shiro catching that Keith in a desperate, bruising kiss when they thought they were out of sight, as if they could defeat death through sheer force of will.

Today they all stand gathered in Black's hangar, pale and frozen as Keith climbs out of the battered Galra fighter.

But it's not Keith.

Okay I don’t even have 10 published stories, only 5, but I’M ROLLING WITH IT

Let’s see what I have:

Mist. That was what she felt when she dreamed of the Stormlands — mist, and wet, and green. The moist air was faint kisses on her skin, cool wisps of breath that danced over her in laughing gusts as she ran, and the earth’s twisted vines pricked at her skirts with each step. “Don’t slouch, Cub,” said Mother. She sat in soft sand, her red gown billowing around her in the Westerland winds, and she was beautiful, so beautiful. ~Analysis~

I think I see a pattern with most of these first lines. They’re all descriptions and inner monologue and focus on characterization rather than getting “straight to the point.” I always struggle with that — it feels like I kind of ramble before I get to what’s actually important. But I try to establish something about the characters in the first few lines if nothing else, and all of these first lines do that (hopefully). 

The only one that goes against the grain and gets straight to the point is All Aboard the Wenchslayer, and it’s ... not like my other works. It’s a crackfic. And I’m kinda shook that my CRACKFIC has a better first line than my other works, but HEY. Like, it’s unironically gripping and feels serious, which is hilarious because THAT FIC AIN’T SERIOUS IN THE SLIGHTEST, but maybe that makes it funnier? I don’t know.
